one of the most beautiful shows I've seen, made me giddy and happy at 2 am. there's something abt the trope of 'guy who hates everyone but her' that makes us all weak in the knees.

i. the concept of the series. seriously. chef's kiss. doom falls in love with a human? spectacular. stupendous. amazing. the storyline was executed so well, the cast was great, the twists and turns. everything, top tier.

ii. the acting was amazing, seeing park bo young cry made me want to cry as well. when doom turned from expressionless-humanity-is-shit asshole to i-will-become-human-for-her boyfriend was one of the best arcs ive seen. tak dong kyung was the perfect protag, not "im not like other girls" or "kind to a fault". she was kind, an incredible human being, but not at her own expense. loved that for her.

iii. the! second! couple! they had me more invested than most love triangle shows. cha joo ik was so fucking iconic, bad boy supreme but not an asshole somehow. i never thought someone would be able to toe this line so well tbh. na ji na, perfect example of girl stuck in the past, and a perfect arc as well. the third guy, lee hyun kyu, sort of annoyed me a bit but then he redeemed himself. good on you, hyun kyu, for growing up.

iv. i do think the whole forgetting thing was a bit unnecessary, but ig some might depict it in terms of "they tried everything but it still didn't work". also, the scene where they remember was so worth it.

On friday, I finished Total Drama Island - Total Drama All Stars, so, I want to express my opinion about evey gen 1 character! ((Alejandro, Sierra, and Blainely will be included!))

Beth - Honestly, I didn’t care about her much on Island and Action, but I do respect her for standing up to Heather and calling Courtney out. Someone had to at the time and I’m happy that it was her

Bridgette - God..what CAN I say abt her?? Her obvious worst season was World Tour, she was one of my least favorites in that season, but apart from that, she was a pretty decent character in both island and action

Cody - I forgot he existed for the 3 seasons he’s in until the final 3 tbh- He was so forgettable to me, but I feel bad for him in world tour

Courtney - 3 words; I hated her. She’s my least favorite character. I did try to give her the benefit of the doubt by trying to find her "iconic" moments, however, it was just her being a bitch and threatening people not once, but TWICE to split the million or die. The absolute ONLY time where she seemed like a good person was island, and she was part of the problem in that HORRIBLE love triangle story, I just don’t see the appeal of her

DJ - Bro was a soft giant- he didn’t deserve any of the treatment he got, I at least wanted him to be eliminated fairly, but nah, in all the seasons he was featured in, he was eliminated so unfairly like cmon..

Duncan -Apart Duncan being a big ‘bad boy’ , he didn’t strike me that way- he’s more like an 2018 gacha bad boy that tries so hard to be cool, especially at all stars, it was cringe-

Katie & Sadie - I forgot they both existed since they technically only competed in one season, but I do think they could’ve been minor antagonists since they’re best friends and could’ve been manipulative together

Geoff - Easily one of my favorite boy characters in the entire show, he was a chill guy ((although very chaotic)) and was honestly robbed in island, I was rooting for him

Gwen - If there was overrated put into one character, it’s Gwen, she is decent, yea, but Island was her best season, and only that- Although, she was a close favorite to me in All Stars, she was caring, but did not have to be in that damn love triangle.

Justin - He was OK. Not good, but not that bad either, he had some funny lines but I do wish he used way more than his looks

LeShawna - I do understand why she has the love and fame that she does, she isn’t afraid to talk shit and throw hands while being compassionate and competitive, it was a really nice mix of personalities for her, even tho I don’t understand her sudden turn on Heather when it seemed like they were gonna be friends in action

Noah - I HATE how this man actually got some development in World Tour when he could’ve had more if he’d just play dodgeball in island.. it’s still so annoying to me. But, his humor was fucking great and i’ll forever make fun of him for his gay ass running LMFAO

Owen - I never really understood his humor, and I don’t think that he should’ve won island, it didn’t fit him in the long run, no matter how kind he was..plus the nudity on NATIONAL TELEVISION was disgusting, he didn’t made me laugh in the slightest

Eva - I wish she stayed longer in the merge, she seemed like a hard worker and she was growing on me a bit-

Harold - Half of the time, I didn’t know what he was saying, he was super confusing but he did have good tastes in crushes, even tho he did get turned down

Heather - I know I’m going to sound like a hypocrite with how my opinion was with Courtney, but Heather is my favorite character in the seasons she competed in, and at least she’s mean and doesn’t manage to make it annoying to listen to, I love how she didn’t play and automatically started making alliances and talked strategy. Her win was definitely the most deserved one out of the show, and probably the most well written out of the cast

Trent - His derailment was so sad to watch like..He obviously cared for Gwen, and was probably the most sane person in Island- ..I think that’s all I can say abt him

Lindsay - She was iconically stupid and smart, I loved her a lot, and she definitely deserved to win action, very robbed there

Tyler - I felt super bad for him, his fear being used after bring eliminated, to Lindsay forgetting about him after action..I’m just glad that he’s finally remembered by Lindsay ((and hopefully dating))

Ezekiel - I see why people don’t like him..That’s it.

Izzy ((I forgot to add her)) - The IT girl of the show along with Heather, I loved her, and even tho she always lost, she never failed to be entertaining on screen, 100% my favorite crazy girl

Alejandro - Definitely the right love interest for Heather, he’s manipulative, simpable, and caused many eliminations. He played the game, and I like him because of that

Sierra - Apart from Courtney, she is also my least favorite character. Why? She’s stalkerish, knows NO personal space apart from Cody going to the bathroom, and is just overall a bad character- It seemed like the only thing she was good for was carrying Cody throughout the entire season..

Blainely: We’ve met this girl for like 3 episodes so I can’t provide much on her, however, she had the most iconic elimination ever..and you’ve really gotta be hated if you have a whole ass song dissing you by the chillest guy ever-

they all swap spots and understand things, they have a breakthrough

sam steps out of "line" out of his "box" that society puts him in as a footballer and entertainer to take a stand abt the state of the world--and he gets punished for it, but then his team helps him rebuild bc that's what they do

but then nate literally makes a box and puts himself in it and then it gets smashed and he asks jade out anyway

Hehe I get that, I am a forever garrence shipper bc it just makes more sense to me that they'd end up together instead of with aphmau, especially because I'm actually a fan of changing the narrative to show the bad stuff aphmau does as bad instead of brushing it off

Bc she does some bad stuff! She is absolutely not innocent of ,,any,, of her crimes but since she's the MC and also ACTUAL IRENE no one really says anything about it or teaches her to be better. They all just accept it and move on bc if they don't then they become an enemy to Aphmau and the PD alliance (which ive just realised spells PDA)

And yeah tbh I'd be the same way in aphmau's position (abt the love triangle), especially bc Garroth and Laurence (Laurence especially bc jesson think flirting must basically be harassment as we see with many characters- not even the women are safe!) are kind of pushy with their love.

Like laurence is the obvious example here, he is constantly flirting, doesn't really take no for an answer*, gets in her personal space, gets jealous and violent over other men being the same way, etc etc. he also has a couple scenes where he makes it seem like aphmau doesn't really have a choice between the two** and that is freaky! I wouldn't want to be in a situation where I'm made to choose between two people and am punished if I pick outside of them or if I stay single. It's an uncomfortable situation and I'd be upset too, I'd tell them to fuck off but aphmau never really does.

*which is just such shit writing and not in his character, he has several serious scenes where he apologises and says that he won't do it again AND THEN DOES IT AGAIN

**example- the forest scene right after the arc above where he basically says "Garroth has to reveal his feelings or you're mine" which always threw me off bc he basically implies that they only reason she isn't "his" is bc Laurence is holding off for Garroth which is FUCKING GROSS! He does this several times too. Like "well you aren't taken so I'm basically entitled to your hand" is so creepy and I hate jesson cause they basically condone it with how many characters act the same. Mostly in mystreet but still. Grody.

Garroth is similar in a really vague way? With how he's written in some scenes he's more like,, (redditor voice) "wow, you didn't pick me? Leave then, they always do!" (Mostly after he escapes the Irene dimension, he acts like he's entitled to aphmau's attention and trust and he gets mean when she doesn't immediately listen to him). This does not include the betrayal arc right before season 1 ends bc he has reason to have acted that way. I don't remember where it's said but I think somewhere someone reveals that Garroth had just told Laurence how he felt and larbo said that he'd give Garroth a chance to reveal his feelings before he swooped in but then immediately afterwards Zane + co made a mirage of larbo and aph kissing. Awkward...

But other times Garroth gets mad over aph "letting men talk to her that way" ("that way" being flirting) and aph always brushes him off with a laugh and it kinda ends there. But sometimes like in the Irene dimension when Garroth is finally telling aph abt his feelings and kinda just going "I have to tell you in case i die or never see you again" (which actually?? Might have been her first kiss?? Bc first garbo in Irene dimension scene is before werewolf arc) it feels like there's this pressure on aph to,, basically say she loves him or crush his dreams and send him off to die. Which I don't think is Garroth's intention but yk. Kinda intense lmao

Do I think it's good that they are pressuring her into choosing one of them and getting upset when she doesn't? No! Do I think it's just toxic jesson writing? Yeah! Does it even feel in character for either of them? No! Nor is it consistent enough to make sense!

Am I interested in seeing someone write it into their versions of Garroth and Laurence as a genuine flaw they have and have it be denounced, worked on, or turned into a new way to view them?

ABSOLUTELY!!!

Personally I'd rather rework it because it doesn't seem in character for how I write them but I'd like to see someone take the characters as they are with everything they say and write them having consequences or feelings of guilt or even NO guilt about it!!! If you can work it into their characters and make it make sense or at least be consistent in the character then PLEASE!!!

Before we start trigger warning for like, child abuse and torture and shit. Seriously this gets dark. Zane redemption must come at a price >:D

So. Something interesting to me in regards to Zane is how in MCD, He's like, this evil, terrible human being, but in Mystreet, he's like, a semi functional human being who can be a NOT bad person and NOT do bad things. And so I got to thinking.

I don't think Zane was born a bad person.

Personally, I kind of hate the way Jess wrote Zane. Like, yes, evil for the sake of evil is great and all, but like. In season one and two, Zane was this overarching antagonist who was always one step ahead of the cast and plotting and having a good time being a paice of shit.

And then season 3 comes around and now he's a shadow knight, on the run, has PTSD...

Look, I'm not knocking the guy for having PTSD. I'm just saying that the way it's portrayed kind of makes him seem like a whimpery coward. AGAIN, NOT KNOCKING PTSD!!

I think the position that Zane found himself in season 3 was a PERFECT set up for a redemption arc and it makes me SO MAD that it didn't happen.

So I guess I have to do it myself apparently -_-

I've been thinking a lot about Zane. I don't want him to stop being evil. Not right away. So we keep what happened in the first two seasons the same. He's a cackling maniac that has killed a shit ton of people and is on his father's payroll.

And then he dies.

(skill issue lol)

Anyway, Zane is dead. But he's also Zane, so of course he weasels his way out of being dead. And then he gets tortured and is subjected to the same suffering he condemned so many others to yada yada yada PTSD bleh.

Everything seems to be the same so far.

But then he breaks out if the nether. Still, we're on track, right?

He gets captured, he gets expedited to Phoenix Drop, he gets interrogated, it's all the same.

But here we find a canon divergence. Instead of being absolute dumbasses, they don't bring him into the nether. Let's scrap that plot point entirely.

Instead, we're going to let Zane bake in prison for a while!

Here are the main issues that make Zane irredeemable.

1. He's killed like, a shit ton of people, for funsies ig

2. He killed Vylad.

3. He destroyed Aaron's village.

Let's keep those things in mind.

So he's in prison. While in prison, Garroth starts to visit him (along with Travis but shhhh we'll get to him another day) and just. You know. Be angry.

Garroth has seen Zane as a spoiled brat his entire life. He's always been their father's favorite. He's always had everything handed to him on a silver platter. He's always been willing to do whatever it takes for power. He's greedy. He's psychotic. Garroth hates him.

But Zane is Garroth's brother. And Garroth is the type of golden retriever, gold hearted, kind type of character to still love his brother even if he hates him.

That doesn't mean he goes in and is like, nice to him though. Nope. Garroth goes to visit him and nine times out of ten it devolves into a screaming match where Zane antagonizes him the entire time and Garroth yells at him for being a shitty human being.

And then one day Phoenix Drop is attacked and Zane escapes.

They track him down eventually. When they find him, they strike a deal with him. Due to Irene related shenanigans they need his expertise as a scholar of Irene to figure out some more stuff for Aphmau. In exchange, they'll protect him from the Shadow Lord (who he pissed off by stealing one of his soul fragments lol Zane behavior).

Eventually they're able to establish a rapore with Zane. Garroth still gets a migraine whenever they have a conversation. Vylad still refuses to speak to him (oh btw he's visiting from his nether revolution vacation just so u know) and Aphmau still wants to tear out his guts for killing the love of her life or whatever, but he becomes manageable. They can like, stand him. A little bit. Slightly.

And then Zianna gets kidnapped or whatever. So they go rescue her. But when they get back to Phoenix Drop they forget to mention the fact that Zane is like. There and in the wild and not currently killing entire villages worth of people.

So Zianna rolls up to Phoenix Drop and gets jumpscared by her youngest son and also, notably, Zane is NOT happy to see her. He shuts the front door in her face. It's hilarious even though Garroth doesn't think of it that way.

So, now we have our key players all in one place. Garroth, Vylad, Zane, and Zianna.

Let's say they have to all go find an artifact toghether or something and they need Zianna there because it's related to something she knows and they need Zane there because of Irene lore reasons. they go on this mission. One day, they sit and set up for the night, set up bedrolls, whatever. They're lounging around the fire and talking when Vylad eventually mentions his time as a shadow knight in the nether and something about torture.

Zane blinks, and, having not been included in the conversation initially, buts it to say,

"Oh, please. Don't tell me getting tortured by those amatures was DISTRESSING for you. I would have thought father's methods would have given you thicker skin."

The others bristle and start scolding him, of course, because Zane is like, the reason Vylad became a shadow knight in the first place. But Vylad himself, who is very observant and hard to antagonize, latches into something Zane said.

"Methods? What methods?" He says. He says it sharply, too.

Of course, Zane doesn't pick up on this. He just rolls his eyes.

"Don't tell me you forgot. Father had a whole floor dedicated to torture and loved collecting new methods from around the region. I think he even had a historian employed who would research for him..."

"What?" Garroth says, stunned out of his anger.

Zianna has gone silent. So has everyone else, and now they're watching with baited breaths.

"So what? What would that have to do with me?"

And for the first time that they've ever seen, Zane looks... Puzzled.

"What, did he go easy on you? Didn't you talk back to him all the time? Once, after just asking him a question, he had two of my nails pulled. Shadow Knight torture was child's play in comparison," he shrugs, then takes a bite out of his stale price of bread.

There's silence.

Zane looks back at all of them, confused and now kind of pissed off. He looks like he usually does when he feels like he's about to be scolded for saying something crass. Except, that's not what happens. Instead, Vylad looks him in the eye for the first time since Zane killed him, and with the most emotion they've ever heard from him, says,

"What?"

Zane hums.

"Come on. Don't play dumb. He hated you. Im sure he must have sent you to the "torture basement" at least once. You got on his nerves constantly,"

Garroth makes an aborted movement, like he's going to stand up and rush him, but Vylad stops him with a flick of his hand. And then Vylad starts doing what he does best. Interrogating him.

So remember that list, right? Let's reframe a few things.

Zane was not the favorite child. Garroth was.

Garte was a paice of shit. Garte hated Vylad. But he also hates Zane. Why wouldn't he? Vylad was his wife's affair child, sure, but Zane, Zane was Zianna's spitting image.

When Zane was little, he used to take snails and out them in the grass after it rained. He uses to clamor for his mother's pastries just like his brothers. He was a normal child, and he was NOT born a psychopath.

But Garte had a thought, one day.

Wouldn't it be funny... If he made his wife think he WAS one?

Wouldn't it be funny to punish her that way? Wouldn't it be funny to turn Zane into a terrible person, and have her think it was for no reason? Make her think that she birthed a psychopath? How much would it hurt her? How much would she weep?

Garte used to punish Zane for Vylad's joy. One of Vylad's laughs would equal one slap to the face. One side remark in defence of their mother would equal one hour locked in his father's study closet in his office.

Garte turns Zane against himself brothers. And the best part in his mind?

He makes Zane believe that they know about all of it.

He tells Zane that his mother knows about it. That his brothers don't care that he's beaten. That Vylad does things so he gets punished on purpose.

Zane grows up thinking that his brothers probably go through this too. He grows up thinking that his mother just doesn't love him. And so he doesn't say a thing.

Garte starts having him tortured instead of superficially physically abused? He says nothing.

Garte makes him become a priest of Okasis even though the consequence of failing the academy is death? He says nothing.

Garte would encourage Zane to blugeon animals to death and bring them to Zianna and laugh at her horrified face from afar. Garte encourages Zane to say psychotic things while they're eating dinner, and watches as his family becomes more and more convinced Zane is a monster.

Until Zane is one.

But this reframes a few things.

The people Zane killed? It was under orders. He eventually became his father's right hand man. Most of his overarching goals have been in service of his father.

For Aaron's village, we'll stick a pin in that one, but long story short, Aaron's village had been planning a coup that night under his wife's orders. Zane had them killed under his father's orders so they could eliminate them as political neighbors. He let Aaron live out of pity.

And Vylad.

Basically, remember when I said that Garte used to punish Zane according to Vylad's actions?

One day, Vylad gets into an explosive argument with Garte defending Zianna. And Garte, again, without the other's knowing, has Zane tortured. Except this time it's for a WEEK STRAIGHT.

So when Zane gets out. He's. Very unstable.

And then he comes across Vylad in a semi secluded area.

And Vylad is acting like he did nothing, and all he's ever done is make Zane suffer, and Zane hates him hates him HATES HIM--

And so he snaps. And he kills him.

Keep in mind, though, Zane thinks this is all normal. He doesn't realize that killing his own brother has traumatized him. He doesn't realize that he's a victim of abuse. He doesn't realize that what his dad did is not okay because he THINKS HIS FAMILY KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED, and if they didn't contradict his abuse, then this must be normal. He thinks that Vylad has probably been tortured too. He thinks Garroth is their father's favorite because in his mind he's determined that Garroth not receiving any attention from their father is a GOOD thing because ATTENTION EQUALS TORTURE to him.

And this reframes a few things. His constant bid for power? It's not greed, it's DESPERATION. Power makes him feel safe. Hurting others makes him feel powerful because that's how his father had power over him.

His highly volatile and violent personality? It's l he's ever known. Do you have ANY idea what torture could do to a child? He has severe PTSD. Like, severe and repressed and his outburst are more common when he's uncomfortable or anxious or experiencing any negative emotion, which is often.

Garte took Zane's empathy from him. Turned him against his family. Made him into a monster. With these types of characters, I imagine it would probably be very difficult for them to redevelop their emotions and empathy because if they do that, they would have to face their whole mountain of trauma and the guilt of all the lives they've ruined.

I think eventually, after a lot of work, Zane does eventually regain his empathy. It probably finally sinks in during a small gathering. His mother makes her famous cake. Zane has long gotten used to being excluded during these sorts of things, but then...

I can't stop thinking about the scene where Wille shows up at Simon's house and tells him he would abdicate for him. For them. It's everything, my favorite scene from the season.

* I don’t think he’s gonna forgive her fast and I don’t want him to. What Sara did was beyond fucked up and I want her to have a good, juicy redemption arc, Simon forgiving her right away totally removes all stakes

* I was upset about Wille/Felice too at first but now that I completely understand the thought process behind it and the message that Lisa was trying to convey as she explained in her live (sometimes you try stuff with friends and it doesn’t work and that doesn’t mean it has to totally ruin your friendship) and I absolutely love their classroom conversation and how Felice called Wille out and wille acknowledged his shitty behaviour. I love that it resolved quickly and their friendship recovered. I love how clear it was that Wille was not using Felice to see if he liked girls or not, because that wasn’t the point - he wanted to see it what he felt with Simon could be replicated with someone else and who better than a close friend like Felice, and this just proved to him that no, I can’t feel this way for anyone else, Simon is it for me, and despite that realization, he still decides to let Simon go. I love the på bordet scene and I love Wille yelling at everyone about how stupid and invasive this tradition is. I love how Simon’s face falls as he realizes wille kissed someone else. I love that it lead to petty, jealous Simon; that was a gift. I also love that Simon never took out his jealousy on Felice or directed it towards her. So as much as I hated watching them kiss - it was yucky - I liked what it caused in the story. It basically sets in motion the switch from Wille chasing Simon to the other way around, which was much needed.

* I disagree about Marcus. There were many angles they could have used for this “love triangle” and this is the one they chose; I think it worked brilliantly. Because the point was never about who Simon was going to choose, and ultimately it didn’t matter if Simon really liked Marcus or not; he’s batshit crazy in love with Wille and nothing was gonna change that. The point with Marcus was that the easier option is not always the best or right option. Like yeah, Marcus likes him openly and there’s less drama and it’s chill, but he’s flawed in his own ways. He’s pushy and manipulative and he doesn’t set Simon’s soul on fire like Wille does. Wille makes Simon creative and passionate and a better person; Marcus just made him feel small. The ultimate question was what was Simon willing to sacrifice for love; his priorities needed to be examined and Marcus existed to give him that push, as Lisa said, and Simon ultimately decided fuck it, nothing is certain in life, I just wanna be with Wille. Simon was far too in love with Wille for Marcus to ever have a chance, so I’m honestly glad Simon didn’t feel anything for him.

* Yes, the scene outside Simon’s house is everything, I LOVE that Rosh and Ayub were there. Wille was so brave to speak his truth in front of them, when we know how scared he is of public speaking. He made that risk for Simon. I also love that he kept his distance and literally gave Simon space, and didn’t try to touch him or sway him with anything other than his honest words. “You have to do what’s best for you, Simon.” Things are no longer just on Wille’s terms, as Simon expressed last season. It’s poetic.

* Edvin killer that scene; I genuinely believed he was throwing up, it was so realistic. His performance this season was god-like.

i just finished reading the masterpiece that is Top of the world and I'm so shaken up by the excellence of the rich vocabulary, the sentence structure and just the way you wrote the various events that happened. I'm such at a lost of words to express what I feel you have no ideas, I will never recover from the high quality of this story. it couldn't have been better than that what you delivered and I'm just so so relieved to have been able to live this amazing experience of reading such an outstanding story. I'm sorry maybe you're thinking im showering you in too much compliments but you deserves to be praised for having written Top of the world.

I FUCKING LOVED THE BLOSSOMING REALTIONSHIP BETWEEN THE TWO OF THEM anD the slight graduation of jaemin's becoming soft to her oh my god I had hearts in my eyes. I loved every moments of this story (I loved the entire 15.6k words of it, I cherished them), but the pool scene toward the end made me go feral for a lot of minutes like the picture you implanted in my head of him in the water made me post all my thoughts (also blonde jaemin? as in, make a wish jaemin?, god I hope bc fucking damn, he was so so so hot)

I was so emotional at the end, they got together and just, being the witness of jaemin's character development was breathtaking, I couldn't stop thinking about how smooth you made it for his character development during all the story, it wasn't forced or too quick...

I feel like Im in the minority that actually did think pru was fun but that being said it ended SO abruptly and with like three separate plotlines completely abandoned that I was really frustrated for days after watching it until I had processed everything and had time to think deeply about it lol it just seemed rly unfinished?? it feels like it was deliberately made as 1/2 of two sequels and there needs to be one more to tie everything up. actually I’m gonna ramble abt this bc I have a lot of thoughts (obvs spoilers under the cut)

the thing about the second one was that I genuinely was enjoying it right up until it ended because I swear to god the moment the end screen went up I yelled "what the fuck, that's it?" out loud into my bedroom bc I was so SHOCKED that THAT'S how it all ended, because it just seemed so incomplete?? Like it seemed like one half of a story, that will only be made whole if there's a third one to tie up all the plotlines that they didn't go through with in the second and if that's the case then I will be completely fine with it but if it doesn't or if they dont have a third one at all I will stay so frustrated lol. one silver lining to this is that the vibe of this movie was so different from the first that it almost feels easy to separate it and just imagine it as an AU if you prefer which is sort of nice; usually if a piece of media I like does something bad I feel all gutted and anxious and terrible that this is the canon I have to accept, but something abt this movie just made it feel like it was sort of a totally separate deal. maybe cuz only 3 of the original characters were in it idk

to start off: I felt like there were a couple of plotlines in it that were just sort of introduced and then never seen through which was very ????? Amara & Vik's weird hate-rivalry thing was one of them; Vik instantly has it out for Amara bc she’s jealous, which is a very interesting concept, and then this prompts Amara to become hostile right back at her, which is also a very interesting concept, and then it never got resolved at all? like they couldve done something really cool with those two but it just never went anywhere. and then there was sort of a weird love triangle thing happening between Jake and Nate and Jules that felt so weird bc it had no significance to the plot at all and it felt like it was only thrown in there for the sake of having ~romantic drama~ idk maybe I wasnt paying too much attention and there was more to it than that but it really just seemed like they wanted to put romance in there and didnt want to bother to put any work into it

BUT the thing about romantic sub plots is that THERE ALREADY WAAAAS OOOOOOOOONE which brings me to the biggest frustration I have w this movie because--and DISCLAIMER, this was also my favourite plot point of the movie bc it was by far the most interesting, the biggest reason for me enjoying the movie at all, and the bit I feel like should have had WAY more attention--Newt and Hermann were like legitimately in love in this movie I swear to god I was watching it and thinking “this is GENUINELY the most blatantly gay thing I’ve ever seen in a feature film and I know that straight ppl are very talented at writing gay romances completely by accident so it’s possible that they just accidentally did it this way but also it is REALLY goddamn obvious oh my gooood?” (and then I did a lot of frantic googling and found out that I was right and Charlie Day & Burn Gorman knew what the fuck they were doing and I felt so validated lol), and yet despite this, the movie had them speak for the last time almost at the halfway point of the film and then spend the entire second half apart and not talking at all and even at the post-credits scene where Jake and Newt talked for a bit Hermann wasn't there?? not even behind Jake to give Newt any searching glances?? Nothing??

dude...Newt being possessed by the precursors is a HUGELY interesting concept that actually makes sense and I wish it had had more attention. I’ve seen a lot of ppl say that pru butchered Newt’s character and I don’t 100% agree bc like...being possessed will change you lmao so while yes I’m obviously sad that he wasn’t himself, I feel like it made sense that he had a slight personality change, because it...wasn’t him anymore. we don’t really see the Newt we all fell in love with in the first movie. we THINK we’re seeing him, but halfway through we find out we’re wrong.

my critiques with that plotline are basically that I wish the reveal had happened a little bit later on, and I wish that it had been a little more obvious I guess?? like, we definitely get hints of it (when Hermann excitedly asks Newt to help him with a dangerous unorthodox project and Newt says “dude why are you doing something so risky when we’ve already got a good plan in motion? just wait for that to be done, it’s fine” and Hermann IS us, he IS the audience when he reacts, because this is a completely insane thing for Newt to say. Newt, who, in the first movie, was so obsessed with finding knowledge that he went behind the marshall’s back to literally risk his life doing something incredibly dangerous just to see what would happen? being given the opportunity to do the same kind of dangerous frivolous act and refusing? this is blatantly out of character, and Hermann is all of us when he’s shocked, “what, you mean you...won’t help me??” which means it wasn’t bad writing on their part, it was purposefully supposed to stand out as something that was wrong and something that we needed to pay attention to. that was a really good scene to hint that something was Not Right with Newt), and I wish there had been a bunch more like it. I think the reveal should have been saved for the end of the second act; I think that should have been the moment that act 2 of a story usually has, that dreadful event that happens that leaves the main characters feeling completely hopeless and unsure what to do.

I also wish that he had managed to break through more than That One Scene, I think it would’ve been more dramatic if he’d had a few moments where he managed to take control for a second to remind us that he’s still in there and still fighting, and I’m sad they didn’t do that. I saw a fan comic that touched on this idea and I think it’s brilliant, even the idea of him suddenly getting a nosebleed and acting distracted to show that that’s the Real Him trying to fight through would have been sooooooooo good.

I also feel like it didn’t make any sense for Nate to be the one to subdue him in the end, I dont even think those two interact at all so like, why was it him?? it would have been so much more dramatic and heartbreaking if Hermann had been the one to confront him so they could’ve had a little conversation on the roof where Newt could once again break through for a second before getting taken over and then Hermann could like idk have a taser hidden behind him that he uses to subdue him and THAT wouldve been a way sadder and more interesting way to do it. I also think Hermann shouldve been the one to speak to him in the post credits scene, or to have him in the background behind Jake just watching him sadly so we can get a couple shots of intense eye contact like UGH I just wish there had been more interaction between the two of them after the reveal happened!! When the movie was over and I realized they never spoke again I felt so upset!!! they're soulmates!! they're literally in love!! this has been CONFIRMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and segueing in from the soulmate thing, another thing that made me sad was that nobody came in pairs anymore :( aside from Newt and Hermann, they were the only ones gjdfk but in the first one every character had another character that they were paired up with, both for drifting reasons and just for plot reasons (except Chau and Tendo but I’m pretty sure there's actually significance to that too), and in the second one it just sort of felt like everyone was drifting with each other with no strong connection needed and that made it feel way less special. granted, the movie takes place ten years after the first one so in that time maybe technology advanced to the point where you didn't need a strong neural connection to drift anymore, but for the sake of the story it would have been way better if they'd kept the whole soulmates concept from the first one, it made it way stronger and more special

so yeah in conclusion I did think pru was enjoyable and I probably would watch it again some time but also it definitely pales in comparison to the first one and I’m desperately hoping we get one more so they can tie everything together and FIX THINGS KFGH it’s not too late!!!!! I wish I could write Pacific Rim 3 I genuinely think I would do a good job I love storytelling and I’m very passionate about these characters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  s C REAMS. i’m still working some things out bc writing is like that. but like. it’s mostly political intrigue with like a mix of romance and drama bc i can do that and i will. 

  the basic premise is that the main protagonist (azisa) of the series is princess of a nation that is basically being subjugated in everywhere but name by a really aggressive, powerful empire who have also been doing this to other lands they’ve “taken in” (aka, conquering). and when they do that, they request that the young children of higher officials (like the king/queen, prime ministers, etc.) of the other lands be sent to their empire’s capitol to be provided for and educated in the name of keeping friendly relationships. but you can probably already tell that it’s really just a form of taking a political hostage mixed with trying to brainwash them by having them grow up completely disconnected from their homelands/cultures. 

  azisa’s kinda backstory aside from being a princess taken political hostage is that her mother and her were actually on a diplomatic trip to empire’s capitol as a show of good will bc azisa’s nation and the empire had a lot of tension due to previous fighting. there’s basically this plot that happens that frames azisa’s mother as an assassin that has killed one of the empire’s prominent officials which gets her mother killed and ignites a war, which results in azisa becoming a political hostage that way and also in her nation just being like. completely defeated. so : )) as you can imagine she has a lot of motivation to try and take down this empire and also figure out that plot that got her mother killed. 

  she’s not completely by herself tho bc the son of the prime minister (his name is duen from my one of my fav spanish word ‘duende’) of their nation also get sent there as a political hostage and they hang around each other a lot bc there is no one else besides each other to rely on and trust. and being from the same culture unites them in a way that is special, especially when they’re being forced to try and give it up. also no. they are not a romantic pair at all, i would never subject my readers to a love triangle. they have a strictly platonic bond.

  kian is a little more straightforward in his role but i hope that doesn’t make him any less interesting. he is actually the adopted 6th son of the emperor (6 of 7 sons) along with his older biological sister (who is also adopted by the emperor). he’s originally from a poorer province due to location and weather that didn’t get much trade or crop yield in the empire and his father was a minor official who was a very good man. like he would sell his own shit so that he could give it to the citizens and would go help them in their work and lower taxes for them. so kian grew up having that mentality of caring about others / providing for the people ingrained in him since young. 

  unfortunately, bc i would never let my characters have anything good in the beginning, his father gets sent to fight in a war on the border despite being sick and making requests to stay at home instead but the emperor thinks this reasoning is stupid so he sends him out there anyway and he dies in battle. UNFORTUNATELY AGAIN that when his mom goes to capitol with both him and his sister to received rewards on behalf of their dead father, that the emperor sees his mom and is like hey : ))) and one things leads to another and they get all get moved into the capitol with their own palace bc the emperor thinks it’s okay to go after widows bc he’s fuck. which seems great bc now his mom is getting treated well by the emperor and him and his sister are now official, adopted children of the emperor but kian really does hate the emperor.

  like .... everything. he hates him for what he did to his dad. he hates how he allows the upper class to control the government and hoard all the wealth while the people are going through some shit (economic crash from fighting/expanding territory too quickly and sickness). he hates how his adoptive dad tries to force this idea of hyper masculinity on him when he’s not about that. and on top of that, there are other princes that are either the emperor’s biological children or that he’s adopted and they all wanna fight him bc any one of them could be the next emperor (bc the emperor made them all equally likely to get the throne bc there’s no ‘the eldest son will get it’ bs) and kian is like ‘my dudes i just want to feed the people and topple the government’. 

  azisa and kian meet while they, along with the other royal children and political hostages, are being educated by the imperial tutors in the lecture hall (there’s a dedicated place just for them to study and receive their education in the capitol). kian becomes really good friends with duen and all three of them tend to hang around each other the most. uuuuh kian falls really in love with azisa after seeing how intelligent and quick-witted she is. azisa h hhh h h she thinks of them as acquaintances only in the beginning bc she doesn’t trust like that and also bc kian is really ???? hard to pin down a lot like he acts really laid-back and sometimes like a fool but her intuition always has her like ‘there is more to this but idk what’.  

  ANYWAY the main point is that they get married as a way to join forces together and overthrow the empire from within strategically (like forming alliances with political figures, gaining their own power, etc.).   sjflksajfdsa listen for good portion of the story, kian does not hide the fact that he’s in love with azisa and he’s like ‘*drops love* oh shit oh my god *drops some more love* fuck’ whenever he sees her. and she’s always like ???? they have a lot of moments where it’s like they almost get each other but then take a small step the wrong way. like kian will be like ‘hey you care about me right’ and azisa is like ‘of course’ and kian’s ‘awww--’ before being interrupted by azisa going ‘we’re married after all. a good spouse cares about the other one.’ and he’s just so :’ ))) he’s like ‘i am inconsolable’

yeah as someone who was curious about how the love triangle wld play out, i was seriously disappointed at how conventional the whole thing was. i thought that edwina wld secretly know about the dowry and feel pressure to marry anthony in order to save her family. i was even interested in the sisterly conflict bc i thought it would be abt their relationship but instead it was all abt anthony.

they really did the sharma sisters and their sisterhood dirty! like their dynamic was a realistic one considering their age difference and kate being parentified but the show does not care to explore this dynamic. instead their relationship revolves around anthony. i think from episode 2 to 7 the only thing they did was talk about anthony (sidenote hate the scene where edwina cries over not hving anthony’s approval). the one conversation we see them have abt their dad is to do with anthony. MEANWHILE anthony gets a convo w gregory abt their dad that is actually meaningful and actually focuses on their father. even their conflict was ultimately centered around anthony. the show tries to claim that edwina is actually frustrated by all the lies kate has told her- but thats not how it plays out. for starters the thing that kate is guilty about is her feelings for anthony. even during their resolution edwina does not ask about the lies abt the dowry, or why she was kept so sheltered and not given all the information to allow her to make own decisions about her future.  or why kate thought she could make decisions for her (no hate to kate, but she was definitely willing to do that). instead the resolution involves edwina asks kate is about her feelings for anthony, before her whole speech. and in their last scene together, edwina tells kate to go to anthony. ultimately they did reduce the relationship between these sister to be about a white man. and both managed to reduce edwina to both an obstacle and a kathony shipper (like they claimed the books did).

yeah your right that we never see edwina feel stifled by kate or the role of the diamond. like the only time she pushes back is when anthony tells her she expresses herself in a agreeable manner. and the show made edwina so guileless & naive, that when she finally catches on i actually found it hard to believe. i read someone talking abt how edwina’s speech in ep 6 sounded like she was on an acid trip and lol i understand why. like i wanted edwina to be angry at the way everyone made decisions on her behalf with no regard to how she felt, the lies and for her to be angry at both kate and anthony. and actually regain some agency. but the show doesnt do any of these things. a lot of what she says makes no sense. instead all the blame is placed on kate, she is the one who is made to feel guilty about the whole thing. to a certain extent it makes sense bc she is her sister  but anthony being the cause of the wedding and escaping all the emotional fallout is very unsatisfying to watch.

its irritating how portions of fans want to pick a side and not a word is said abt anthony. imo ep 6 doesn’t make kate or edwina look bad- it makes anthony look bad. the scene where he goes to talk to edwina makes his character go from being an idiot (in an entertaining way) to being absolutely pathetic in the worst way. i think it was his utter cowardice. the truth was out, they were caught and he still couldnt take accountablility or have the decency to give edwina the truth. he even asks kate to convince edwina to marry him to save their families. and when kate blames herself, he does nothing to reassure her or step up and take the blame to spare the misery. he does not care abt edwina but he is meant to love kate. he just lets her take the blame. its a bit irritating afterwards how he is full of self pity- like whatever he does not care abt his family's rep but he doesn't even care abt the sharma's reputation which he helped fuck up. at a certain point it's confusing what kate even sees in him. he asks her sister to marry him, then immediately says he will cheat on her w kate and then later still tries to force the wedding through. then he wants to run away from a mess he created.  i mean from kate's POV he is a complete flake. he really doesnt even grovel enough. like the love triangle did anthony dirty (not that his flaws get any attention), but his character just comes across as a complete coward.

The definition of Internalized Misogyny/Sexism is a series of sexist and misogynistic behaviors exhibited toward women by other women.

The best example I can think of are songs like Misery Business by Paramore and Better than Revenge by Taylor Swift, basically it was RAMPANT in the early 2000s and 2010s.

And love triangles, in my opinion, are responsible for a lot of internalized misogyny because it directly pits one woman against another. Think of Elena/Caroline/Stefan from TVD or Serena/Nate/Blair from GG or Rachel/Finn/Quinn from Glee or Brooke/Lucas/Peyton from OTH the list is literally endless. Two women are in direct competition with one another for another man's interest and often times this man is white, privileged and playing with one girl's feelings over the other. Now why does this sound familiar...?

Essentially over the last ten or so years, however, there's been a movement to include love triangles without having the two women involved hate each other or to re-examine previous love triangles and try to understand why the two women couldn't be friends even though they were previously. As feminism evolved and we grew up we began to realize that pitting women against each other did more harm than good and those friendships that were ruined were often a result of shitty writing instead of genuinely thinking about how those characters would react in that situation.

The best example I can think of is Serena and Blair from gossip girl and Rachel and Quinn from Glee. As people rewatched the show they began to see how the women were characterized and felt sympathetic to their situation. Rachel was needy and had never been loved, Quinn was ostracized and needed someone she could rely on for both fatherhood and popularity. They had their flaws sure, but eventually the fandom discourse evolved from Rachel vs Quinn to, "Why couldn't these two be friends or talk to one another?"

Same with Blair and Serena. Both girls were lonely and Serena wanted a familiar relationship that would boost her social status imo, while Blair was tired of living in Serena's shadow and finally taking what was hers. And once we understood their motivations, we understood why they felt in competition with one another.

We get no such thing with Kate and Edwina. I've talked about this before, but both Kate and Edwina are woefully under explored in a season that was supposed to be all about them. We get no scenes from their POV, no mention of what informs their motivation. Why does Kate feel the need to shield Edwina so? Why does Edwina feel stifled by Kate? And because we don't get their motivations, we don't understand why they get mad at each other. We cannot feel sympathetic for either one because we did not spend enough time with them.

The most we get is Kate having to pick up the reins because of Mary's grief and Edwina is burdened by the expectations Kate places on her but we're never shown any of that. There is more time spent on Anthony's backstory instead, which makes us more sympathetic to him.

Now, I don't know if you know this, but a majority of the Bridgerton fandom is women and the reaction to Edwina's outburst toward Kate went two ways. People immediately chose sides and began exhibiting sexist behavior toward both women. Calling Edwina a brat, ungrateful, and naive while lifting Kate up, or calling Kate controlling, toxic, and projecting her own wants onto Edwina while lifting Edwina up. The fandom has been split into two different camps essentially, with many people unable to voice their criticisms of each character without being accused of being racist/sexist. But what really happened is we fell prey to our own internalized misogyny.

We lift one woman up while tearing the other down instead of actually critiquing what the issue is. Some people want Edwina to grovel and cry and roll over without saying a word and Others want Kate to be frozen out and yelled at and suffer more than she already has. It's remarkably like the ASOIAF fandom when it comes to Sansa and Arya, claiming that one is better than the other because of the behaviors they perform and the roles they were forced to fit into.

Kate is more masculine, Edwina is more feminine, therefore one must be superior to the other. It reduces both women to props instead of dynamic, complex characters with their own agency and that is internalized misogyny.

What hurts even more is how all three POC characters have been used to prop up the white male character. Dolls has just been sidelined the whole season and am I supposed to believe that wynonna didn't give two shits about him in the finale when this is the same woman who fought so hard to save him in 2x01. Rosita was treated like shit from doc. And then Jeremy treats him like he can fucking walk on water. I didn't mind him but this and his fans have made me hate doc with a passion now.

it really feels like there’s a divide in the writers’ room between who likes wyndolls(+dolls) and who likes wyndoc(+doc) bc its just.......one or the other whenever either make an appearance. like i feel like when an episode is written by a person who prefers wyndoc, dolls barely makes an appearance or is mentioned maybe once, and vice versa lmao. i really wish they would make up their minds instead of having one wyndolls episode, then a wyndoc episode, then a wyndolls episode, ad infinitum. plus ya this season had way too much doc praise from everyone imo.................whoops

I know you don't hate doc but what makes me even more mad about him, is that he constantly makes mistakes and treated people like shit. Like how tf does he get away with this constantly??? Yet whenever Dolls makes a mistake it's the end of the world and he needs a talking to. I really don't know if I can carry on watching this I want them to pick a ship and just stick with it (hopefully wyndolls) because the whole triangle is convoluted as fuck and it's making me dislike the show.

i think doc has truly grown from who he was back before the well happened, but he still is an asshole and can be a shitty person (esp re: rosita lmao). i think he’s a flawed man and that’s... acceptable, but what i don’t find acceptable is that, like u said, he’s never called out on it. in order to deserve all the praise he got from every character this season, he really should have apologized to ppl abt things he’s said and done.

I just wanna say thanks, it feels good to be able to rant like this, so many people treat this show likes it's perfect when it's extremely problematic at times. I'm fucking praying, like down on my knees praying that they don't carry on this romantic wynd*c bullshit in S3 and this love triangle because wyndolls is far superior and shit I think everyone knows it. I think a lot of the fandom is a lot more receptive to their relationship because it's so beautiful compared to that mess.

Coming from a hardcore wyndolls shipper this shit has really hit me hard. Trust me I know they're a fictional character and it's just a show but I've been through so many times of my fav characters (who happen to be POC) either getting sidelined or killed off and I'm not sure if I can deal with it anymore. And the person who I'm really upset for is shamier. Because shit man he deserves so much better. This has actually made me lose so much trust in the writers and I have no hope left for S3.

I was just reading all your asks on the finale and I remembered wynonna telling doc that she never would've kissed dolls if she knew doc was back and I'm just like... what! That whole sentence just contradicts one of the main themes and relationships of S1. Listen I loved the moments that we got of wyndolls in S2 but this forced wynd*c relationship has me feeling so disappointed in the show. when S3 is back on I'm just gonna wait to see how dolls/wyndolls is treated before watching. no really that so came out of left field bc like???? wynonna + dolls were being built up the entire first season, it was all leading to dolls admitting his feelings and them kissing. (remember when wyn dared dolls to admit that he cares for her?? and he couldn’t? so she called him a pussy and walked away???? then he finally did admit that he needs her in the finale? im crying) wynonna + doc was just them learning to trust each other and fucking in the forest that one time, there was nothing OVERTLY romantic abt their relationship compared to wyndolls. 

I just don't get how they expect me to believe that forced ass relationship. She literally looks at dolls like he's her whole world, and when he came back she looked so relieved and happy again. I hate love triangles in shows and this season especially has made me intensely dislike doc, especially after 2x03 with that whole "I ain't doing it for him" comment. And his treatment of Rosita and his actions during 2x06. I cannot deal with this shit and I really don't trust them anymore, not at all

BRINGIN BACK THE DEMON MEME FOR THIS BECAUSE I. FUCKING. HATE !!!!!!!!!!! I’m 1000% sure I.D.K (conveniently her answer to all the plot holes of her show??) only wanted Hanna to have a girl so at some point there would be a Hanna 2.0 so she could continue this garbage mess 15 years from now just as we’ve all begun to forget the hell we were put in so many years ago. It’s not even so much that Hanna eventually has kids because throughout the show we see that she is very nurturing and has the potential to be a great mom, but it’s just how it was done. Everything was wrapped up too nicely (a STRETCH of a word) in the end. These girls have suffered unimaginable trauma over and over and over again throughout their life time, and in the span of a few months  of being back in Rosewood, fall back into the routine of who they were in high school, personas they’ve all been trying to outrun for the last five years. Sidenote: It’s really fuckin hard for me to try and establish the difference of Hanna Marin as a character and I.D.K. as a garbage creator, because as we all saw in S7…#NotMyHannaMarin. Hanna and Caleb love each other (Whitley, I’m sorry you had to read that sentence) but they do. Season 7 just made it happen in THE WORST WAY. Can you fucking believe we almost went a whole series without the friend love triangle trope and I.D.K. HAD TO DO IT TO OUR GIRLS!?!?! WHO ARE MEANT TO BE!?!?! God DAMMIT. Anyways. They do love each other, and Hanna would be a great mom and kids is the usual next step, but they weren’t even together in the start of the season, now they’re married and expecting???? No fuckin thank you. GIVE THEM TIME TO HEAL!!! Give them time to get the fuck away from Rosewood and reestablish their life together before you slap a messy ass Marlene bow on top of them. I could vent for 7000000 years and I’m pretty sure at this point none of this is coherent or makes sense so tl;dr I.D.K. Is the devil and I hate her for how she did every single character in a show I invested my most formative years loving. tl;dr pt2. Hanna Marin loves being a mom and definitely has childREN aka she has more than one because Hanna Marin has never half assed anything she loves in her life ever and can’t get over how adorable her baby Caleb’s are, because she has boys, so she just keeps having them.

8.  What’s the best piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten?

I’ve gotten a few I really love but like. in terms of what has always stuck with me most, it was one of the first ones I ever got: imagine me at age eleven, my first actual fanfic being written and put out on quotev for everyone to see. My Little Pony, mind, and I was terrified because I loved writing andn I loved the show at the time, and I hoped someone would like it too.

someone did. I dont now who they are, but I remember their comment: i love your writing! this is my favourite fanfic because i think it really fits in with the show’s timeline, and the way the characters are written. i can’t wait to read more!

seriously despite the comments i’ve received from people after that one still sticks with me because if someone could believe in my writing then, when I was so young and new to it all, then damn it someone will like my writing now, even if it’s just me. 

(the more serios piece that I got was from my grade seven/eight english teacher at my grade 8 graduation: she alwas supported my writing and shit, which was nice because nobody else had until her, and she always was confident I’d go far with it, and I remember she gave me the English award for my year, and her lil joke when she passed it to me was “I hope you never forget your dear elementary school english teacher when you become a famous author” and it’s silly but it’s also super nice to know she believed in me enough to easily joke with it)

15. What would you say has inspired you the most?

person wise? J. R. R Tolkien. when i say he was my idol as a kid, I’m not kidding. I was a boring and lonely kid who never said anything, and I took a lot of refuge in the pages of his stories, and in the adventures I found there. More recently, though, I’ve found my drive for writing in wanting to reach people. I know a lot of fanfics that hit me, and I want, in some degree, someone to be able to go “i never thught of it with that mindset” afer reading something. i want someone to be able to look at something i made and see themselves there. to find a safe place, even for a few minutes, or start thinking about anything because of something i wrote. i want to reach people, even if it’s just “oh man let me show you this fic about this character i love!” and i hope that if i do reach people with my writing, whether i leave a mark on them or not, i want it to be something. that sounds so sappy but im lowkey crying lmao 

18. How do you feel about love triangles?

they make a story interesting, you shout. no, i say, eyes hooded and shoulders slumped. they make tension appear for the reader, you say, a little quieter now. no, i respond, the life slowly draining from my body. my watch spins faster. time is an illusion, but it still gives the effect one would guess it does. they’re not that bad, you say once more, barely a whisper now. you touch your cheek. its wet. when did you start crying?

 both?? it depends. if i have a plot idea, i get that down and then think of characters, but if i have characters a plot will form sometimes. sometimes i think of it and i go “wait oh my gosh x oc would go well with that idea h shit” and then never do anything with it
