@unlockthestars asked:
“Are you lost?” [Ren for An? ^^]
Lost was an understatement - An was completely out of her element. Before Kuroyuri was destroyed, she had barely travelled beyond its borders. Since then, she had mainly stuck to the village that took her in and nursed her back to health. She'd had nowhere else to go - nobody to return to - and so she had stayed, to repay their kindness and allow herself time to grieve her husband and son.
Eventually, the village's resident huntsman had urged her to take her grief and turn it into strength. To honour her family's memory by protecting others from the same fate. With him as her mentor, she became a decent huntress - even if it was only in name and with no formal training. For years, she helped to protect the village from Grimm, bandits and wildlife alike. But one day, she heard whispers from travellers about a group of young huntsmen and huntresses - one of whom shared her family name. Ren. She couldn't believe it. Could one - or even both - of her loved ones have survived Kuroyuri? Were they really out there somewhere all this time?
With her mentor's blessing, she had left the village the next day. She had to follow this lead, if there was any chance it would bring her back to her son and perhaps even her husband. She had travelled throughout Anima, trying desperately to track this elusive Ren down, but the last thing she had heard was that his group had now left for Atlas. She had been too late. With no way to get there with the borders closed, she had been heartbroken. It felt like she had lost her little Lie all over again.
Several agonising weeks - perhaps even months - passed before she would find a new lead in the form of an emergency broadcast from Atlas. The young girl, who's name she recognised as one of those who had been traveling with this Ren, dropped all kinds of unbelievable truths before being suddenly cut off. To think of what her son, if it really was him, could be going through in Atlas pained her greatly. The world later found out that Atlas had fallen, but that refugees had somehow found their way to Vacuo. This was her chance. She had to believe that her son had made it there safely with the rest of them.
And so, she had made the journey to a kingdom she never would have visited before, holding fast to her hope that Lie was here and that he was safe. However, no amount of hope could help her find her way around this foreign kingdom, let alone find him within its winding streets - especially at night. As fate would have it however, a voice speaks up from somewhere behind her as she attempts to locate a place to stay. Turning with a smile, she begins to speak.
"Oh! Yes, it would seem I am. I--"
Any words she was about to say are stopped dead in their tracks, and the woman gasps, dropping the map in her hands. Before her stood a boy, taller than her, with long black hair and striking pink eyes. Her eyes. The boy even had a streak of magenta in his hair. Just like her son. There was no mistaking who stood before her. The mother begins to tremble, widened eyes threatening to spill over with tears, and she is barely able to speak.
"Lie?"

If you could pick one language family to gain permanent total fluency in (while keeping your existing knowledge of outside languages) which would you pick and why?
Ohhh, this is an amazing question!!
I think, all in all, the Indo-European family would be a good option for me
I mean, it is one of the world's primary language families after all, and soo many doors would open for more language learning opportunities with it!
Just thinking about it makes me excited, really. There would be so many new people with which to communicate, so many new cultures! And the various level of similarity and difference between the languages to explore! And oh god, all the linguistic research one could make!
And, of course, there would be so much stuff to figure out after: how many languages do I actually speak? How many can I understand now, thanks to those languages? What about dialects? Do I only get to learn only the standard variations, or do I now speak all the different dialects? What about all the different alphabets and scripts?
I love playing with languages -with the new amount, I would just feel over the ninth cloud. Figuring out how my dyslexia or hearing loss plays out with these new languages, or the different pronouns and gendered terms, the levels of formality… and just the joy of so many new languages and cultures to be explored, dios! Even just the idea of taking a pencil and starting writing on an entirely new alphabet…men, I can only dream
And it will give me some of the languages I've had some interest in but that I’m too reluctant to actually start learning them, such as Urdu and Hindi, too. My first thought was actually something like, “actually anything that gives me Hindi” and then I started building up my answer from there lol
But besides Indoeuropean, the French Sign Language family was/is a big other option for me, too. There is a lot of discussion about which languages form part of it and which not, and the tree family has changed through the years a lot, but at least it would give me ASL (American sign language) and LSF (French sign language), two big sign languages that have influenced many others around the world, which would help at the time of learning other SLs
But (if this is a “you name it, you get it” sort of deal) contrary to the Indo-European family, where I would be fine with a catch-as-many-as-you-can move, I think that with sign languages I would appreciate more the process. The immersion with other Deaf folks and their Deaf culture is more important to me than the immediate fluency, and I wouldn't give that up that easily
So: Indo-European family! give me all those languages, babyy!
#sdfghjk maybe this is longer than what u were waiting for#but i got a little carried away and just started writing and writing#i tried to resume it with just the basic/important parts#the original was huugee#thanks for asking:#i really loved the question!#Thinking about it through the day certainly made my day!#multilingual life#(god can u imagine the amount of gender flavour i could get with that much languages???#and all the reseach???#god i fucking wish)

New Jo Daily? New Jo Daily 😊😊😊
"I just read back over yesterday’s entry and ignore it completely, me and Rick are completely fine" First stage of grief: denial.
"For a second I could believe I was a real hunter on a case with Rick, staking out the movements of a werewolf or something. I felt silly afterwards for basically playing a game of hunter make-believe like I did when I was a kid, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, I guess."sdfghjk maladictive daydreaming girlies rise up 😔✊.
"I feel more free out in those woods than I do anywhere else. Away from mom’s all seeing eyes and the leery hunters of the Roadhouse, but still close enough to feel Dad with me. Freedom and security all at once. In there, it feels like I could carry on walking forever and maybe I’d actually reach somewhere purposeful." I wonder how Jo's relationship with freedom will progress with this fic. I understand (all too well) needing to get away from a controling parent but I really don't want Jo to push her mother completely away.
"He apologized and said he was just surprised that I’m meeting so many people at the minute, with Cassie and Eileen in such short time. He gets lonely too, being a hunter, his closest friends are me, Jake Reilly and Ash, really. And he hadn’t heard from Jake in a few days apparently either." Goddamit Ola are you trying to make me feel bad for Rick? It might be working just a little..
"At the end of the day, we’re just too kids trying to figure things out. We’re lucky to have each other, because if we didn’t, life would be unbearably lonely." Oh ☹️🙁😢. Now I've got younger hunters with heavy weights on thier shoulders feels.
"Maybe it’s just brought up old, painful memories like she said. I wish I was better at making new, happy memories with her but it’s really hard. Just like today proved with all the fun I had with Rick out in the woods, I feel so much better when I’m away from her. Isn’t that just a terrible thing to write about your own mother?" Oh Jo. You've got to learn that you have every right to feel like you can't stand someone you love. You and Dean are the same. Yes your parents raised you (loved you only in Helen's case) but that doesn't mean you have to sweep thier flaws under the rug.

heyy mo!! i have a question for you! in the home choreo, do you think the three spins they do would be too fast/close together for a skating routine? i picture it everytime i watch it but idk if it's feasible? i've been wanting to ask you since the mv dropped but kept forgetting to lol (hope you're having a great day!! 💖💕💗)
Helloo~!!!! Okay so first of all this the best question!! i love over analysing things!! I do have to say that i personally only do speed skating and shorttrack instead of figure but i love watching it! So im not entire sure if what im saying either makes sense or if technically possible but yeah. Also! perhaps @wonuasmr could give their thoughts on this too since they watch it too and i think even did it? (correct me if im wrong jaci lol) so yeah!
on to the moves lol! im my opinion what makes the spins so difficult in the timing, they are for dancing pretty fast but for on skates too slow? or at least too slow to do turns or jumps on. like you could do a single flip matching with the timing of the first spin but you would be able to do it again due to speed, and because your landing time on skates is much longer. So i would think i’d be more likely to do it as part of a step sequence or as an entrance to a spin. this is because you then have more controle over the timing. a spin itself has to be much faster than the timing they have in the choreo.
anyways i tried to find an entrance or sequence that somewhat matched the choreo so this is what i found.
this was yuzuru’s entrance to (i think its called a layover?) his spin. timing wise and the (not very but still a bit of) similarity in movement made this the most likely in my opinion. to be honest i would try it out in real life if i had the proper skates for it, but on my you can’t really do any spins hahaha i really hope this made sense!! I at least love the idea of skating to their music it would be so dope to watch i think!!!
#sdfghj i got a bit carried away thinking about this lmao#also Alyssa do you skate???#storytime with mo#figure skating⛸#dont mind the quality of these gifs please it was purely for the move and i didnt really try to make them look better sdfghjk

🧩 pick one personality trait from each member
chan - his selflessness. that he’s always there. for his members, for stays. and even though he might be struggling too he’s still there for you, offers you a shoulder to cry on and does his best to try and help you. the way he’s not trying to outshine anyone but instead gives the spotlight to those around him. i have so much admiration and respect for this man :’)
minho - the way he shows his love. i know it’s not easy to show your emotions through words or physical affection so instead he does these small actions where he shows his love. like buys you food or helps you study. i don’t know i find it more meaningful? like he actually shows he cares even if he does that in a subtle way :’)
changbin - his maturity? okay well i know that most of the time we see the goofy, clingy, adorably annoying changbin but idk i feel like there’s this serious side to him. the way he talks sometimes? for example in two kids rooms or one kid’s room. i know all of them have a serious side but for changbin i feel like he’d be the type to have late night conversations about deep stuff. but if we’re going for more visible traits i’d say i like his affectionate side. even if the others pretend they don’t like it he still continues to show his love :3
jisung - his bravery (i’m not even sure if i’m picking personality traits anymore sdfgh). him being an introvert and struggling with anxiety yet still being out there and doing his very best and even brightening up the mood or the other members. that must be incredibly hard and i respect him for that. i truly look up to him and hope to find my own bravery one day. i also hope he still doesn’t forget to take care of himself as well :’)
hyunjin - he’s a good listener. the members also said this multiple times that they go to hyunjin with their struggles because he listens to them and hears them out. and i think it’s very important! not everyone can give good advice or they might be in a place where they don’t know much about something or feel like it’s not their place to give advice but they’re still there to hear you out! and that actually means so much! a person doesn’t always need advice. sometimes it just feels good to let everything out and having a person who will listen to you :’) so yeah you go hyunjin! :3
felix - his fondness of the other members. he’s truly a sweetheart. when the others are bickering or picking at him he’s just there with that huge smile on his face. like you can see it in his eyes how much adoration he has for stray kids. i feel like his little heart is just overflowing with love :’) like for example when minho texted him in a cute way he sent hearts while the others didn’t read his message or asked him what he wants sdfghjk felix is pure joy and sunshine and i hope he stays his warm self forever :’)
seungmin - his honesty! for me honesty is incredibly important. and i always try to be 100% honest. my friends know that even if something i say comes out a bit harsh i still mean well and i’m not trying to hurt them. i think in the end it will hurt more if you’re not being honest. with others or yourself. and seungmin doesn’t hold back. he just says whatever is on his mind. for me that doesn’t ever come off as mean or rude. like yeah there’s a big difference between being honest and mean and you should not justify your rudeness for being honest. but seungmin is just seungmin. honest and we love that for him :3
jeongin - the way he’s trying to open up more to those around him. he mentioned before that he has a hard time showing his emotions and it’s really nice that he’s trying to change that. because putting up a smile even if you don’t feel like and bottling up your emotions can be exhausting. but it takes a lot of work to let down your guard and let others in. so the fact that he’s trying is very inspiring :3
oof omg did this become a personal rant sdfghj i’m sorry it got emotional i got carried away lmao i’m not even sure if i talked about personality traits i just said what i relate to and what i find admirable and inspiring in every member i’m sorry :’D and thank you so much for asking!!!

Hope you were looking for an actual response and not making a joke bc I got kinda carried away sdfghjk
I’ve read the manga. The short answer is that Beastars is a story about a couple trying to overcome their differences and navigate a world which doesn’t want them to be together.
The long answer is that Beastars is hard to describe because it doesn’t fit neatly into any box or genre; it takes various elements from a lot of different influences and brings them together in a way that is, in my opinion, pretty fun to witness. It’s as if the author took a coming of age story about high school students, and decided to spice it up with an AU like - ‘The protagonist gets caught up in a murder mystery! Some of the students become involved in the mafia! There’s tension! There’s drama! There’s romance! And I’m gonna go really in depth with the world building to explore all the nuance that canon never addressed!’ - except this actually is the canon, canon does all this.
I use AU as a metaphor because in some ways Beastars feels a little bit similar fanfiction. This may be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your perspective. Like fanfic, Beastars is a character driven story that considers relationships and character dynamics as important as plot. Also like fanfic, it doesn’t shy away from discussing and exploring physical attraction. It’s not explicit per se, but it’s not an asexual love story, or an asexual society for that matter. People take their clothes off.
That being said, I was surprised at how little fanservice there was, considering this is an anime/manga about anthropomorphic animals. The girls uniform skirt extends below the knees. The female characters have depth and are relevant to the plot. There are no impossible boob physics, no panty shots, and no one exists just to sell merch/body pillows. This is a rare thing in the age of endless isekai and harem anime, and it was a genuine breath of fresh air for me. It bodes well for the anime adaption, because it tells me that the studio respects the story and the characters enough to treat them seriously and do them justice.
I’ve seen some people say they aren’t planning to watch Beastars because it uses 3D animation and because it’s ‘the furry anime’. Personally, I think the 3D animation is fine. It hasn’t ruined my immersion, and it’s very expressive. I much prefer it to watching conversations drawn in 2D where the only thing being animated is the mouths. As for the furry thing, it’s true that they’re all animals, but it’s not just for an aesthetic or for the sake of it. I don’t think this story could be told if it was about humans. Society in Beastars is filled with complex dynamics between herbivores and carnivores, and rather than being a poor allegory for real world prejudice, the incredible attention to detail in the worldbuilding makes this integral to the plot and to the internal struggle of the protagonist. I don’t want to spoil things by summarising it here, so just take my word for it when I say it couldn’t have been done if they were all human. It works. You get used to it.
Honestly I’m not sure if I’ve clarified things at all, or if I’ve just made it more confusing. There are a couple of reviews and discussion videos out on YouTube by now if you’re looking for a more coherent explanation. But if you’re intrigued, I would really recommend giving Beastars a chance. It’s an unconventional story to be sure, but if you like it and you stick with it, it’s very rewarding.
(Also the opening is all stop motion, and no one goes to that kind of effort unless they have a vision and a desire to create something genuinely unique and cool. Especially in the anime industry which is pretty exclusively 2D. Best opening of the year, no question.)
What is… Beastars?
