when we do meet for coffee and plushie hauls we essentially go over everything that happened over the past few months we havent seen each other in (outside of texts lol) and ya girl always has some hyperfixation to yap about (musicals, mythology, all of the above...)
anyway i explained to her epic the musical lore as best as i could in like 15 minutes while she had a lecture lmao (long story) and honestly kudos to her for understanding my incoherent 5678 words per second ramble and endless footnotes etc. anyway i sent her osp's odyssey video to give her an idea of what i was blabbing about lol

the thing is u cant explain the odyssey without knowing a little abt the illiad and to really get that u need to know the pantheon and how everyone got into this mess in the first place and and......
thats not even the best part before epic id binged osp red's greek mythology videos and was dabbling in pjo so i was very basically explaining the mythos to her about a month or so ago (equally manically)? and this girl says to me 'wait is zeus daddy?' AND I FUCKING DIED RIGHT THEN AND THERE. my soul *ascended* it was single handedly the funniest shit anyone has ever said in my general direction. i love her

ELLA DOWNING, FNaF OC
Ella is from a separate AU than my main one, Odd Ones Out, and follows the original story a little more closely. It prioritizes the events of FNaF 3, FNaF SL, FFPS and FNaF SB, with the other 3 past set games being elaborated on as historical events.
Ella Downing and her best bud Dale (AKA the Phone Dude) are responsible for the building of Fazbear Frights, and kickstarting the events of the AU. The AU takes place in 4 "Volumes". While it is still under construction, I can at least provide you with some cliffnotes! Please be warned, these cliffnotes are rather incoherent and from a late night infodump rant lol.
Volume 1 is FNaF 3. Pretty Standard stuff, but with Ella and Phone Dude (Dale) kickstarting the events of the next few games. The 3 games set in the past are elaborated on in conversations and psychopathic research. Springtrap quickly regains the ability to speak and has a personality like in AR, where he is actively antagonistic once he realized there is another person, and that she keeps coming back. The Phantoms are ambiguous and omnipresent. There is evidence to support the fact that they might be real, but also might not. It's how you feel about it that matters. Michael appears at the end of this volume to save Ella in the last second, but fails to secure his father's rotting corpse. He, Ella and Dale will team up later.
Gif by @bunnyangelart!!!
Volume 2 is FNaF SL. It's told from Michael's perspective as he recounts what happened to him before he met Ella. Michael receives word that his father has been missing for an extended period of time, and as William's next of kin, is given all his stuff to rifle through. Michael slowly learns about everything that's happened, including information about his sister, and how she is possessing Circus Baby. The Funtime Animatronics are FAR more alive in this than from the games, and the Rental Facility feels more lived in. The encounters with the Funtimes are far more harrowing, with them being way more aggressive and aware of Michael's presence. The same series of events as the games plays out, but with more focus on Michael, and how alive the robots really are. Really pulling on the string of "at first they didn't recognize me but then they thought I was YOU". Michael has no idea his Father is "still alive", he just wants to find out what happened to him, and ends up at Fazbear Frights after being tipped off by someone anonymous. It ends with Michael saving Ella and bringing us back around to the end of the last Volume.

Volume 3 is FFPS. Michael, Ella and Dale all live together in Dale and Ella's Apartment (platonic friendship, they are just besties and split rent). It's been about a month after Fazbear's Frights fire, and Dale got an insurance payout after a technicality held him not a fault for the damage. They get a call one day from someone who urges them to take up a job at a new Fazbear's location. They all reluctantly agree, and when they get there everything seems too normal. Until Dale finds a backroom lol. He enters the place, and due to having motion detection from one of its residents, ends up waking up Molten Freddy, who almost kills him for it. They are finally queued in to the situation by Henry, who was the one who told Michael about Frights and Dale about the secret room with Springtrap, and get to work luring the 3 other animatronics and pretending they are running the Pizzeria in order to further trick the rogue bots into believing it. While all the other bots are actively hostile, Ella and Helpy run into Lefty, who only gets mad at them for making too much noise, but doesn't hurt them. The Volume ends with Henry trapping everyone inside and setting it on fire. He has a way out for the three others, but Michael stays behind to confront his father, and ensure he doesn't' escape a second time. He bestows upon Ella his last true possession: Evan's stuffed Fredbear, still in pristine condition and well cared for. They leave him behind and watch Fazbear's burn once more, before the ground collapses into a sinkhole.
Art by HiroSupah!!!
Volume 4, last but not least, is Security Breach. It's been a few years…. Ella and Dale are still sharing the old ass apartment, being scroungers, and them not quite over losing Michael, who managed to leave a deep impression on them in his short time. They turn on the T.V, hearing for the a thousandth time that Fazbear Entertainment has built a MAZZIVE FUCKING COMPLEX. After learning of several disappearances coinciding with the Pizzaplex's existence, both of them know this can only spell trouble, and suit up to do some midnight delving. Dale stays outside in his fancy "secret spy van" and Ella enters the Pizzaplex as it closes. She almost gets fucking disembowled by Monty after running right into him, getting clawed and shredding the side of her shirt, and it quickly dawns on her that something is horribly wrong with the animatronics. She sees Gregory and Freddy at the main stage, and causes a distraction to help them get away. She heads to Parts and Service, and enters the tunnels, eventually intercepting Gregory just as he's about to be overwhelmed by Endo's. They escape via Ella carrying Gregory, with him looking over her shoulder and keeping the Endo's in sight. They fix up Freddy, and take a second to rest. Gregory takes a nap, and Ella gives him the Fredbear plush to help him sleep. Ella digs through the lost and found after bandaging herself and finds her signature Monty shirt, in an ironic twist, and decides tp change out of her torn up shirt into this one. While Gregory sleeps, Ella's persistence to try and find alternatives to hurting Freddy's friends (but ultimately failing) leads Freddy to concede, believing that they can always be fixed, but Ella and Gregory can't if they get to injured. One by one, they get the parts from his friends and upgrade him, all while Ella and Gregory actively avoid Vanny, whose quips at Ella are strangely specific… They find their way down to the ruins of FFPS location, to Ella's intense discomfort, and run into The Blob. Before it can get any more antagonistic, Ella, Freddy and Gregory fall down to where Burntrap is, and after setting the place on fire, barely escape with their lives and watch as Afton is dragged back into the fire by The Blob. The Volume finally ends with Dale, Ella, Gregory and Freddy all relocating to a small cabin near town, where they attempt to get some semblance of a normal life (until Ruin, that is)
Ella talks a little more in this volume, constantly reassuring Gregory, as well as feeling comfortable having quiet conversations with Freddy, who always has everyone's best interests at heart. Gregory is not nearly as antagonistic in this, becoming more childlike and less jaded when Ella arrives, having two adult figures to help him. It is my personal headcanon that Michael has possessed Freddy, which is why he isn't after Gregory in the game, so there are a few repeat lines Freddy says that clearly echo him, and explain why Ella feels so comfortable talking to him, because she essentially already knows him to a degree. The Blob is the next stage of Molten Freddy, and it can talk, with his voice most prominent, but echoed by what feels like dozens of other voices. It recognizes Ella, which is why it actively pursues them even when they are dealing with Afton. They bring Freddy's old parts with them and replace them when they settle back down, and keep the upgrades in a cabinet in case they need them again.

What would you say is your favorite thing about Bioshock infinite? I beat it for the first time recently; real mixed bag there for me, and I’m interested in what draws other people to it.
(ok sorry for the delay on this but I really had to think on this)
I guess my favourite thing overall about it is the nostalgia? Weird to say but whenever I play it I just feel comfortable because it reminds me of when it first came out and I was only just on tumblr and how talking about it lead me to my closest friends in my social circles? It's also a semi-collectathon like the other BioShocks or Dishonored, just looking around in corners for lockpicks, money, audio diaries, little setups of props that tell a story you could easily miss. Y'know, the lore.
And so that I don't clog anyone's dashboard, here's a read more as I ramble (I'm sorry I can't help it this is an ask that genuinely got the hamster in my head to start working the wheel thank you), because I can't speak for sure what draws other people to it but I can speculate on what drew us all in around the time of release.
So it's been nearly a decade and pretty much everyone has agreed there are aspects about Infinite that did not age well up to today. How the Vox Populi were handled, the combat system, how they tried to create a BioShock framework to link the alternate universes, Burial at Sea... plenty was not implemented to the greatest potential, and since then we've learned more about what happened behind the scenes and it's no surprise some things were so messy.
However, at the time, Infinite was a bit of a breakthrough for a Triple A title. Your mileage may have varied, but there were just things about it that made it differ from other Triple A games at the time.
Introducing the Multiverse
Main thing was how the story went into things like multiverse theory and the idea of constants and variables, which was a great jumping-off point for future Shock titles and helped connect back to System Shock, what BioShock spiritually succeeded. It wasn't the best use of multiverse theory and certainly wasn't the first, when we had things like Fringe or His Dark Materials, and not everyone liked how Infinite handled it.
On the other hand, I think it's one of the alternate-history timeline pieces of media that helped popularise the idea, and fit with BioShock's previous alternate-history stories with how the first two games had some subtle hints of it with certain characters being involved in historical events. And, again, before the DLC episodes came out, it really opened up potential for how the series could go forward with the idea that a BioShock game didn't need to continue directly from Rapture or Columbia, but an entirely new "impossible" city with similar elements.
People got excited and connected the roles of characters between games - Jack, Eleanor and Elizabeth being key characters raised by antagonists to fulfill their wishes/legacies; if the Man could be the role of the protagonist of titles or the founders of these fantastic cities; the cities both having people in charge abusing their power and acting on ideals warped by going into the extreme, leading to the populace falling into chaos as they tear the city from the inside out; how when certain people get given a power that goes against nature to do whatever they want, they use it how they want to devastating effect - it was the idea of all these possibilites and connections, similarities and differences that I think really buzzed about in the fandom early on.
I think when Burial at Sea was finished it put a damper on things like the theorising, because at first it was sort of railroading not just Elizabeth's character and ambiguous future, but both 1 and Infinite's overall fates. Infinite was no longer a flawed standalone, it was now a prequel to BioShock... but also ran alongside it? Rapture in BaS is the primary timeline... but the bond between Big Daddies and Little Sisters are completely different now? Fink had people fishing for ADAM slugs from the sky?? Drinkable ADAM took 10 times the amount of injectables, and Fink and Suchong still make a limited resource drinkable???
Needless to say, the whole multiverse vibe of Infinite getting dropped in Burial at Sea left a negative impression on a lot of people, I noticed it a lot on here because I was the deepest in the salt mines and yet plenty were still fond of Infinite so... Burial at Sea just got disowned. I remember someone saying Levine had said BaS wasn't canonical, and to this day I cannot for the life of me find real evidence that he ever stated this, but a bunch of us clung to that and the fact that whatever Levine didn't understand in the original game he either still didn't understand or just didn't care about with the DLCs.
We also viserally hated BaS for pretending 2 never happened.
It's Just So Goddamn Pretty and Charming
Weird thing to say for a BioShock game, I know, but Infinite was pretty much tumblr gifset gold, and its graphics are probably what aged the best of everything in the game.
Not to say Rapture didn't have any beauty to it, but it was very much leaning into a haunting and deteriorating aesthetic, 1 having the immediate aftermath of a city gone to ruin and 2 showing the ocean slowly seeping in to reclaim its space. You could soak in (haha) the environment of a city long since dead, come across props placed deliberately to tell a story without words, with that little hint of survival horror where a splicer might walk in and catch you off-guard.
Columbia was a very different experience, there was sunlight and sky and clouds and floating buildings and people walking about going on with their day. The levels where you get to put your weapons down and just play walking simulator for however long you want are probably the better levels. In general, Columbia has a lot of well-done atmosphere and moments where a player can just stop and take a screenshot for their desktop later. It was an still is a visual treat, and the general artstyle of BioShock as a franchise not being super realistic and being somewhat stylised really helped the games age well. Even the massive hands of NPCs and the horrifying children of Columbia have their own charm to them.
And on that note of charming, the characters themselves had charm to them, be it in short audio logs or through the story with recurring characters. All the games get their charm from the audio diaries because they inform the overall story in some small aspect and add to putting you in the time period and setting of the story, as well as the attitudes of characters then. Honestly I never get enough of walking through the welcoming level and overhearing people talking in this cheery tone where the subject matter of conversations starts to become slowly off, or how an NPC will comment on finding Booker attractive when it's entirely possible that not 30 seconds ago Booker was rummaging in the trash and found loose change and a pineapple.
And you might be wondering if things like these were really that great, and in 2013? Yes. Yes, they were great. Why? Because it was 2013 and everything was brown. (or at least it felt like it) Mainstream games were varying shades of sepia tone and mud-brown because war or something, it wasn't ALL games but for triple A titles it felt like they thought spilling coffee on the camera was a style choice. Characters as well, they were either bland or assholes, I could articulate better if my brain wasn't white noise surrounding the before times, but it felt like western-made games like Calladuty Shootaman were just devoid of colour or charisma unless you were a BioWare game.
With Infinite, its bright colours and characters with... well, character (for better or worse put a pin in that), were a breath of fresh air for those generally playing it, even if some of the charm came from NPCs being blatantly bigoted in that old-timey voice (which really Infinite is not the only piece of media to do that).
And you're going to sigh for me saying it, because it makes me sound like a stan again, but another big factor in making it Infinite charming and different was... Elizabeth.
Yes, Elizabeth
Women in games weren't really treated as characters in the early 2010s, particularly in Triple As. It was a particularly misogynistic time in gaming in pretty much all areas; within the game narrative, behind the scenes in a game's development, and ESPECIALLY in fandom.
If a character was female and feminine, then she was either going to be a useless damsel just there to be a nuisance or to serve as a slutty mcslutterson just there to be sexy and/or bang the main character (or for bonus points, be punished for her sexy, slutty crimes). Like, any instance of a female character where her boobs were just existing meant some kind of misogyny was heading her way. It all just lead to pushback of being a girl and girly, like the only way to make a female character feel like she had a point or had worth was to make her a hardass and just as misogynistic "I'm not like other girls" as the men.
so Elizabeth being the emotional core of Infinite was pretty 'groundbreaking' at the time, for lack of a better term. She was feminine, she was girly, but she wasn't a useless damsel because of her gameplay design to assist the player, and she wasn't a slutty mcslutterson because she's never sexually available to the main character. Hell, she IS the main character in a way, Booker's just her bodyguard.
Escort missions were treated with the utmost disdain (a big reason why people chose to shit on BioShock 2 when it's entirely optional after one tutorial), and women were treated like eye candy, sexy lamps, or romantic interests/sex objects for the player character in more linear titles. So in terms of a giiiirl in a main role, Elizabeth was something new people into games and gaming culture; her escort mission didn't have annoying mechanics leading to fail states, and she was treated as her own character first and not as a romantic or sexual interest for the main character. She was allowed to just be, with interests and skills and agency in the story.
Triple A titles and the developers behind them just didn't seem to know how to write or design female characters beyond what would entertain what they believed was the main demographic; horny dudebros. If you want a quick example, the Mass Effect series was a big hit with its first two installments, being a space opera with some horny-on-main showing *cough*Asari*cough,* but nothing too egregious for games at the time and nothing as bad as other stuff out there. Then we had Mass Effect 3, a game that like Infinite was the third game in a surprise hit franchise given the Triple A treatment, and released not a year before. And returning female characters had designs that... well... choices were made, some more egregiously boggling than others. Biggest example would be Ashley Williams, whose new wardrobe didn't fit her established character in previous games.
Fans weren't fooled, because Ashley is a character who went on record to say she was comfortable with her femininity as she was while dressing appropriately as a soldier. While not stated, the obvious reason for the redesign was to make her look more like Miranda Lawson from the previous game, whose sexy appearance is actually part of her character and comfort in her sexuality. They literally changed Ashley's appearance from wearing practical uniform to a catsuit with a miniskirt for the sake of titillation for a potential new audience. And to be clear, it isn't that sexy characters are inherently bad or badly written. It's that developers and writers usually picked the wrong time to sexualise said characters, i.e. "there's a time and a place for a butt shot, and a scene where this woman is asking for help on a personal matter isn't it."
But anyway without going further off-topic, Game companies wanted to sell games and when it came to women in games, they believed that sex sold, hence female characters in games being sexualised with it rarely informing their characters or serving anything beyond titillation for a presumed male demographic.
Infinite seemed to be on that track with Elizabeth's demo appearance, where her bust was much bigger and she sounded a lot older, but looking at iterations of Elizabeth over time up to the final game, it becomes clear that the people behind Elizabeth were actively trying to avoid having her fall into that sexualisation, or at least any further than she already was. They made her breasts smaller and changed the bodice of her dress to her corset, keeping the blue dress that was by that point iconic while also modifying it to something that Elizabeth clearly would not wear by choice. They gave her her sailor-style dress for two thirds of the game so that players could connect with her more for her personality and story.
And, to top it off, the game is actively laughing at you for trying to ogle Elizabeth, after an age of games where the male gaze was encouraged. When there's a scripted scene, the camera keeps focus on Elizabeth's face and not her body. A player can't walk up flush to her to stare at her chest or her butt because her hitbox is pretty big and she will keep moving out of the way. You can't look up her skirt because it's too long, you can't get a view as she jumps off a skyline because she's too quick and even if you get it glitching out, Elizabeth's character models don't even have any legs above her knees (which for saving polygons is common in most games but that's not the topic). Hell, the ONE time a player can "successfully" try to be a perv to her exposed skin is when she's tied to the operating table at Comstock House, and aside from not being able to get too close, you know what the devs did? They defocus Elizabeth if you try to use your sights on her.
youtube
(from 08:23 to 08:57)
Most games at the time would not bother to put up this much resistance to players being gross horndogs, even as a joke like in the playthrough above. At first with Infinite and Elizabeth it was like "haha they cockblocked us lol", but in hindsight it feels more and more like it was pushing back against objectifying the emotional core of Infinite wherever possible, like the devs wanted people to view Elizabeth as a character first.
Honestly? Elizabeth wasn't the greatest example of how to treat a main character who was a woman in games, but she was one of the characters that at least pushed people in the direction of handling women and their writing better in future. Most people, anyway.
I'm gonna cover this separately in another post on the topic, but my friends and I are usually just baffled at how much the attitude towards Elizabeth has changed today, because while there are instances of dodgey writing with her story, Elizabeth is one of the characters that helped push narratives in gaming towards drinking their Respect Women Juice, because for all the "critiques" about her appearance and her role in the story... I can only think of what games were like around the time and I just
And just to cover my bases...
Yeah, the Narrative About Racism Was Pretty Racist Itself
With the subject of the Vox Populi and Daisy and the "both sides can be monstrous" way that plotline got ended unceremoniously, I don't believe it was written with any malicious intent (though I wouldn't argue if I was proven wrong on that, who knows what else we're missing behind the scenes). How the racism is handled has aged the poorest and is very much a deal-breaker for some players today, but with the context of when the game was made and released, I think they were trying to be sincere without completely understanding what they were getting into. Unfortunately with most media by white people, it's down to ignorance.
It did not help Infinite's case either that later that year, Black Lives Matter started, and with that movement more attention was given to black voices speaking out about stereotypes and portrayals of black characters in media, including in BioShock Infinite. I don't believe the people behind Infinite meant any harm in their portrayals of Daisy and the Vox. It doesn't mean it wasn't wrong or justifiable, but given the general lack of diversity in game companies at the time it's at best understandable how they and some players of Infinite would have missed the mark on a subject like racism. When it comes to racism, it's a lot deeper and a lot less PC than a white writer would want to get into if they weren't genuinely dedicated to showing the truth and ugliness of the topic, which Levine was not, because Infinite was not a story meant to be about racism at the end of the day.
I think with the demos, while the Vox were clearly antagonists, the reason for them being antagonists was a lot better than what we got. It's how they were always intended if we believe what was shown, and we might not know exactly how they went from that to being "the good guys get the means to fight the bad guys, but in doing so they become the bad guys". It was a mistake, and on some level we KNOW Levine knows it was a mistake by Burial at Sea Episode Two's development at latest, given how he tries to retcon Daisy's reasons for holding a child at gun point (which isn't better it's just. another flavour of "bad").
tl;dr, In Conclusion, yada yada
Overall, I feel so many people still like BioShock Infinite today because of what it kind of did for gaming along with other titles released back in 2013. It got lots of mainstream attention for a game that wasn't Call of Warfare or Modern Duty, which was what people expected from first-person-shooters a lot of the time. It was also one of the titles out there pushing for the argument that video games could be artistic and hold deeper meaning and stories, even if with Infinite your mileage may vary. It was part of the "you HAVE to try this game" list of experiences, and it's stuck to those people even if it hasn't gotten on too graceful with time.
I feel like it was a net positive at least with how it treated the main girl of the game and how fans reacted. Yes, there were plenty of horny dudebroes and creeps drawing fanart because the internet never ceases to surprise, but a lot of people fell in love with her for being a female character that got better treatment than most, both in-story and in fandom. Plenty of other women in games may have had better stories and characters and mechanics than Elizabeth, I won't argue that, but again, this was a woman in a game for a mainstream audience at a time where women were either a sex object or a punchline in popularly consumed media, particularly online.
You know what, I'm changing my favourite thing about Infinite. My favourite thing about it was that it shone a spotlight on the whole series. Something that was an ironic positive was how, after Infinite came out, people started viewing BioShock 2 a lot more favourably, either by comparison to Infinite because it felt weaker in certain elements, or by revisiting / first-time-playing the games, especially when the remastered version in the BioShock Collection was released. Infinite being such a big success financially prompted 2K to try and make more money by bringing the older games to the next console generation, which brought the whole series to a wider audience. And it was damn good to see BioShock 2 get a new perspective that was heaps more positive than when it was released, it was always a shame to me that online circles treated it like trash since it was the first game in the series I played until completion (I just couldn't get into combat for BioShock 1 at the time).
I'm sorry for making this so long and sorry if there are points that don't seem clear or make sense, it was too fun and brain-excercising to not go into why so many people still like this game. Well at least the reasons that wouldn't require me to retire at 30 from exhaustion and mental breakdowns anyway.
#bioshock#bioshock infinite#long post#theluckoftheclaws#just me sitting here praying i didn't go too off-the-rails with this one#i get incoherent when i rant or infodump

Stake Your Claim (Jamilmads)
*holds out a fic* can I interest you in some Jamilmads fluff?
The room was bustling, filled with high-ranking people from top law firms like Washington & Co., Regalien, the French equivalent, and Schuyler & Co., as well as some outsiders, all mingling and talking in the event space rented out by Washington. Thomas and James watched it all from a corner, sipping drinks (wine in Thomas’s case) and watching everyone. James, who seemed even smaller next to the 6’2 giant that was Thomas Jefferson, leaned closer to Thomas, who put his arm around the smaller man and kissed the top of his head. “You’re so small,” he muttered, almost to himself. James huffed. “Am not,” he said. Thomas giggled. “Yes you are, Mr. Smaller-Than-Alexander,” he teased. “I am 5’7, thank you very much.” “You’re 5’6, James, face the facts.” “Well Alex is 5’5!” James exclaimed, gesturing randomly in his exasperation. “I have two very small beans,” Thomas noted affectionately, hugging James closer. James sighed contentedly and leaned into him. “Alex is an omega, he’s naturally small. And you know, 5’7 isn’t that bad for a beta, you’re just really unnecessarily tall,” James said after a while, breaking their bubble of relative silence. “You’re 5’6, Jemmy, and excuse me, my height has served me well.” “You’re an alpha, you don’t need to be 6’2. Share the tallness,” James grumped, although he was smiling. “If anyone needs it, Alex does, anyways.” “Aw, but if he was tall, his little gremlin anger wouldn’t be as cute.” James rolled his eyes. “What?” Thomas said. “You think it’s cute too!” James didn’t acknowledge him, choosing instead to take another sip of his drink.
“Hey, who’s Alex talking to?” Thomas asked. James looked around and found Alex on the other side of the room, talking to some beta, ranting by the looks of it. Well, not ranting. He was gesturing animatedly, and he had that look in his eyes that he got when he was excited. Probably passionately explaining his new plan for the company’s finances. Inwardly, James shook his head fondly. Only Alex, he thought. Outwardly, he said, “I don’t know… I think that’s John Laurens. He’s a freelancer, so I don’t know him that well.” “I don’t like how close he is to Alex.” James snorted. “You’re just overpossessive.” “Not my fault I don’t like to share what’s mine.” “Alexander can do what he wants,” James reminded him, although he was also feeling a bit of resentment towards Laurens as he watched him shift a little too close to Alexander. “Well, so can I,” Thomas announced, and with that he removed his arm from around James and strode across the room. “Fuck,” James muttered, hurriedly walking after him.
Alexander had seen his alpha coming in his peripheral, but continued to talk to John, who was listening attentively to his infodump. He didn’t really know the man well, having only heard of him in passing, but he seemed nice. And he was flirting, which was something of a hidden bonus. He would never admit it to anyone, but he actually kind of liked it when Thomas got possessive. He knew Thomas was quite aware that Alex wasn’t his in the way that society expected; he’d made it clear to him and James from the beginning that all bets were off if they wanted to control him and manage every aspect of his life like he knew other alphas did with their omegas. And they were fine with that; they weren’t those types of people. But Thomas tended to feel the need to show the world he was his when other people flirted with him, and it was pretty hot in Alex’s opinion.
Thomas marched over, heels clicking as he walked. James had pointed out that there was no need for the nearly two-inch heels when they’d left the house (Alex was already there), but now he was glad for the added height. Alright, he thought. Stake your claim. “Hey darlin’,” he purred into Alexander’s ear, leaning close to him. Alexander turned around. “Oh! Thomas! Hey!” Thomas smiled, looping his arms around Alex from behind. “Whatcha talkin’ about?” He let his Southern lilt seep in a bit, delighting in the way he felt him shiver slightly in his arms. “Just explaining to John my plan to remodel the company’s finances,” Alex said, leaning back into Thomas. “Uh, hi, I’m John Laurens,” Laurens said, doing an awkward little wave. “Hello, John Laurens. I’m Alexander’s boyfriend,” Thomas responded. Laurens looked a little panicked. “Ah, well, hi, Alexander’s boyfriend,” he said. Thomas smiled sweetly at him. Claim staked.
James sidled up to them, putting a hand on Thomas’s shoulder. “Hey, Tom,” he said. “Washington’s looking for you, he wants to introduce you to someone.” Thomas looked a bit miffed. “Who?” James shrugged, leaning closer to Thomas and putting his arm around his waist. “No idea, but you should probably go,” he said. Turning to Laurens, he offered his hand to shake, saying, “James Madison, also Alexander’s boyfriend.” Laurens shook it. Then he stared at them for a moment, the three of them all turned towards him, watching. Feeling very out of place, he nodded. “Well, I’ll leave you gentlemen to it. Have a good night.” He turned and disappeared into the crowd.
“Thomas!” Alexander whined. “I was making a friend!” Thomas huffed, leaning his chin on Alexander’s head. “He was looking at you weird,” he said. “Flirting and shit.” Alexander rolled his eyes but seemed to deem that acceptable, turning to James. “What do you have to say for yourself?” James shrugged. “You like it when Thomas does that.” “Do not!” “Whatever you say,” he said, his tone indicating that he still did not in any way believe Alexander. “Anyways, Thomas, Washington is over there,” he gestured towards Washington, “and I think that’s Philip Schuyler he wants to introduce you to.” “Oh! Shit!” Thomas hurried off. Then Alexander was pulled away by someone, and James struck up a conversation with Von Steuben from Regalien. They spent the rest of the night apart in a similar fashion.
By the time the event ended and everyone dispersed, it was dark out and the cold was biting. James shivered, and Thomas, immediately taking notice, took his jacket off and wrapped it around James, who squirmed. “Thomas! I’m fine!” Thomas rolled his eyes. “No you’re not, Jemmy, it’s cold out and you didn’t bring your jacket. I don’t want you to get sick.” James looked to Alexander, but he just shrugged and wrapped his own jacket tighter around himself. “Thomas is a human heater, he’ll be fine, whereas you have the health and immune system of a sixty-year-old.” James hmphed, but resigned himself to his fate as Thomas called a cab.
Alexander climbed into the cab first, followed by James and then Thomas, who shut the door behind them. He gave the driver James’ address and they pulled away from the curb, Alex nestling into James, who put his arm around him and leaned into Thomas. They spent the rest of the ride like that, leaning on each other contentedly in the relative quiet of the night, the rushing of cars passing them becoming background noise as Alexander drifted off to sleep.
Thomas shook him gently awake as James unbuckled himself and leaned over to do the same for Alex. “Wake up, honey, we’re here,” he whispered. Alexander opened his eyes, blinking blearily as the cab’s internal light turned on and Thomas opened the door. James climbed out, and Alexander followed sluggishly. He stumbled as his feet hit the pavement, and Thomas immediately caught him and picked him up, carrying him bridal-style into James’ apartment building. “M’ fine,” Alexander mumbled into Thomas’s shoulder. James laughed. “No you’re not, Alex, you’re clearly too tired to walk.” They entered the elevator and James pressed 17, standing back after the doors closed and waiting quietly, too tired to do anything but listen to the whirr of the elevator. Alexander shifted slightly and mumbled something incoherently.
Thomas opened the door to James’ apartment, the bronze “1789” flashing in James’ peripheral as he walked in. He heard a clatter as Thomas dumped the keys on the kitchen counter, and the moonlight from the windows illuminated the metal of the keys. He smiled, making his way into the bedroom, looking up when Thomas entered. Alexander was set down gently and immediately snuggled into James’ chest and fell asleep, sighing contentedly when Thomas joined them, wrapping his arms around both of them. “G’night,” James muttered. “‘Night, James,” Thomas whispered. They drifted off to sleep, none of them remembering or caring that they were still in their work clothes.

Might be projecting my own desires but: Magnus and Alec listening to each other infodump about things they don't care about personally, but hearing the other get riled up/excited over something is so sweet that they just listen. Also infodumping together about a shared interest and learning more things about it that way. 🙂 I yearn.
absolutely tbh!!!! they both love to hear each other talk about the things they're passionate about. Alec rarely ever goes on like, Rants™ so when he does Magnus just really treasures it? and he loves how intense and passionate Alec is about stuff, how much he cares and puts his 100% into everything. it's sweet and nice. even rarer if its something not work related, like just something he genuinely cares about, because he's been denying himself that for so long? you know? and Alec is goddamn FUNNY when he's ranting, because when he's mad it all translates into Sarcasm™ and his takes on everything are just. really great sometimes. and Magnus always laughs and Alec was so focused on his rant he didn't even realize that he just called Lorenzo "a walking disappointment with a bunch of rat tails on his head" or something. so he looks up at Magnus as Magnus laughs at his antics and feels so accomplished it's like he was just handed the whole world :')
and Alec could hear Magnus talk in any way about anything always. i absolutely think that magnus' voice is soothing to him, because theres that cadence to the way he talks and it's usually so, like, soft sounding? i mean his favorite is when he gets Magnus to snort or do something else that's decidedly ungraceful because it's cute, and it's good to see that Magnus allows himself to let it go with him :') but the way Magnus usually talks is just so nice to listen to and Hmmm Good Sensorial Experience, Very Good, so hes just listening to magnus ramble on and looking at him with the most adoring damn look in his eyes (plus smile). and Magnus feels self conscious because you know... he just hyperfocuses and he has so many hyperfixations and if he isn't careful he gets rambly, talking with his hands, going into way too much detail too incoherently and fast. and he isn't as careful when he feels safe, but he KNOWS it's annoying and uninteresting because that's what he's always been told. and then he realizes midway and hes just like "oh" but as soon as he stops Alec is like "and then what happened?" and he looks almost upset that Magnus stopped, and he clearly had been paying attention you know
like Magnus talking = immediate sensory heaven for Alec and he can just focus on and listen to it for hours and hours and he'll be happy to
and its nice because Alec is also genuinely interested in everything Magnus knows, because theres so much for Alec to see, so much that he had kept away from. and Magnus knows about it all (well not it all but you know. so many things. he has centuries worth of hyperfixations and it shows, plus he's naturally curious and loves to read/learn) and he loves learning about it. especially because magnus' point of view is always so unique and interesting (hes fucking smart okay) and the way he describes everything is always so vivid because he pays attention to all the details
also, Alec learns how Magnus' brain logic works, so it doesn't matter that Magnus is jumping from topic to topic seemingly randomly in true ADHD fashion, taking turns and twists and detours and then getting back, because Alec has a very clear map of Magnus' thought process in his head, and he can see the picture Magnus is painting. and its so fucking nice for the both of them, to be listened to, and understood, and also to understand

5 for the so epic gamers and jasmine
5. Speech! Speech! Speech! Speech! Will they give one, and what about?
so like to start off with i think we already know what jos speech is. it's kind of a thing
gam absolutely incoherent rant about every single thing they can remember mikell doing in their presence or online and why they hated it. they start scrolling through his twitter midway in so they can cite his takes and end up driving themself into such a fucking fury they have to stop early because they lose the ability to form comprehensible words
esda just infodumps about bethesda games and their (so many) hobbies. ey go over time while talking about wire sculpture and how ey made a shitty wire codsworth and it's their metal husband
amethyst doesn't have much to give a speech about, to be honest. it could give you an off-the-cuff dissertation on a variety of topics, but that's having adhd not being an orator
emp lists every single piece of information about themself from least to most personal, ending with their real name. im not sure if the usual consequences apply. they do it anyway
el talks about how important love is because they are a sappy nerd. it's remarkably comprehensive on the different types of love out there. they get close to crying at some points and actually cry twice
jasmine tries to talk about how human connection is transactional and not worth it but it kind of devolves accidentally into trauma dumping. it justifies this when it recognizes it by going "look i can't afford therapy so this is none of your business but also i mean" (it is dying inside)

Saying random stuff to feed into the hyperfixations; pick one of these statements to rant about because I wanna read :)) if u want,
How skeppy must feel with everyone meeting up cause BaD JUST COME ON ,
Opinions on bad planning to take skeppy to dinner and all that jazz ,
Skeppys newest video on the skep channel where bad and skeppy are surprisingly sweet to eachother (and how lately in general bad has been less angee with him) ,
Literally the whole discount skeppy situation , bad being literally in love,
Ride with U,,,,,hetero,,,,explanation,,,, anywhere?
ANONNNNN I OWE YOU MY LIFE ILY
im literally going to talk about all of these so im sorry but read more at your own risk
one: skeppy, i am so sorry a mf does this to you. but seriously, i can only think of a few reasons (that dont sound entirely made for fanfic) that bad keeps putting off meeting skeppy
1. (the most unlikely) theyve already met and they keep the bit going so the fans dont find out. i can get that they wouldnt want to tell at first because its their own business, but i seriously doubt they would wait very long to confirm it, because ppl honestly can put a lot of pressure and hype on the meetup (esp with skeppy’s “surprise”) so i think theyd release something just so everyone knew that it finally happened! they didnt lie!
2. bad just doesnt want to meet skeppy (actually nvm this is the most unlikely)
bad seems to be genuinely excited to meet skeppy, even claiming skeppys the one to keep putting it off, not him (which skeppy immediately disproved but) and saying over and over he wants to meet up with him, but always avoiding actually making plans (every single tweet about the meetup) so its clear he does want to meet skeppy eventually, which makes trying to figure out why he wont even harder
3. its not the right time/ waiting for a specific date
leading up to this, i was thinking that there was a pretty good chance theyd meet up on their anniversary, but that never happened rip. the issue is with this is that they guaranteed they would meet up before the end of the year, and at this point theres only one “event” left, but they still dont seem to have any plans to meet. if bad was waiting for the perfect time to do it, why not just tell skeppy to confirm a meetup date? it would get him (and maybe the fans, if they told them) off his back. another variant of this is that there is a set date, but they havent told the public, but again, skeppy seems to be just as much in the dark about this as everyone else
4. health issues
bads apparently been feeling pretty under the weather lately, with his arm and kidney stones, its very plausible (and reccomended, imo) that bad doesnt want to travel when hes having these problems. of course, skeppy could visit, but he could either not want to spend their time together sick or the plans they have could also be too straining. i think this is probably one of the most likely atm, go see a doctor bbh im begging you
5. bads nervous
this is also one of the more plausible to me. for whatever reason, bads just anxious about it, whether it wont be the same as talking online, or be super awkward or whatever, he could just keep putting it off for that (its still weird and kinda doesnt make sense but in a more realistic way this time)
i know i totally went off track but this brings me to my point, skeppys kinda just waiting for bads confirmation at this point, so seeing his friends have fun meeting up is probably just lowkey depressing and i could see him using it as more the reason they should meet up. really the only thing he can do in this situation(at least, as far as i can tell) is what he has been doing, annoy bad about it or he take advantage of bads jealousy and meet up with someone else. the other option is to randomly come to his house, but it doesnt seem like skeppy is gonna do that, maybe to respect his boundaries? if he was planning on it i think he wouldve done it by now
OKAY NUMBER TWO LETS GO
this kinda ties into my point in the “reasons why bad wont meet skeppy” thing, that bad seems really excited to meet him yet still wont?? its clear he really values any time spent with skeppy, but he also make sure skeppys having a good time too! that why he never does any actual work with skeppy around (i.e. building statues or gathering materials for such), he knows its boring so instead theyll wander around the server telling stupid stories or punching each other off stairs for 20 minutes. im sure itll be the same irl, he mentioned wanting to meet somewhere like a nature reserve or amusement park, probably to make sure theres never a dull moment or time wasted. dinner seems much more low-key, and i wouldnt be surprised if bad just wanted to have an excuse to try and impress him with a nice totally-platonic date
NUMbeR tHree *airhorns*
they really do be the best of friends! ive noticed that skeppys def been trying to halt arguments fairly quickly now, saying a lot to appease bad and move on, and while bad seems to like to start fights for fun, hes also been a lot more chill lately, im guessing because hes been oh-so desperately missing skeppy and big s was also in Baby mode (aka if bad disagreed with him hed probably just cry until he got his way((sand))) i think that vid just showed them being a lot more natural and happy to talk (plus bad usually is more argumentative when theyre competing, while in that vid they were either just hanging out or working towards a common goal)
n u m b e r f o u r
where to even BEGIN with discount skeppy. well, bad actually first came up this idea a few months ago, in either july or august on an idots smp stream when he crafted an ‘artificial skeppy’ in his snack shack that he could talk to whenever skeppy was gone. as we all know idots smp is now rip, but the idea of replacement skeppys remained, just this time they can talk and also ship skephalo. it actually seemed like more of puffys idea at first when she put on skeppys skin as a joke, which bad didnt like the first few times, but when she brought it up again he actually requested it (missing skeppy brainrot 🤔?) this could be either cuz bad wanted to bait some shippers so gave in or he thought it was a pretty funny bit so went along with it (or he actually missed skeppy that much.. surely not ??) either way i think we can agree puffy is not only a comedic genius but a top tier friend and slight wingman, and getting some good jealous skeppy content out of it is also top tier. in conclusion, love and appreciate discount skeppy, badboyhalo has only skeppy on his brain and his friends have to deal with that, hoes (skeppy) mad even though the whole bit is how much bbh is into him
NUMBER FIVE im really doing all of them
What, can be said, about ride with u. GODDAMN. im not tryna insinuate anything, but if someone told me that song reminded them of me i would have no choice but to marry them immediately. i really really want someone to ask bad what songs remind him of any of his other friends (dream, sapnap, george, ant, puffy, etc.) because there are three options
1. theyre just cool platonic friend songs and bad is just in love with skeppy
2. he cant think of any songs for them and bad is just In Love with skeppy
3. they have equal romantic undertones and bad is just Like That with his friends (even so i bet people would be picking out the most minute differences between the songs that make one more.. You Know than the other)
i know FOR SURe that if i was in bads position (where even the person who made the lyric video assumed they were gay in love) i wouldve curled into a ball and never made another public appearance again, but he really owned that shit, singing it and making unprompted references to it (”i already have a bonnie” YOU AINT SLICK SIR WTF)
i just wanna know if skeppys listened to it (i mean, hes surely at least heard of it, i know he wouldve seen it all over his timeline) and what he thonks about it. pls tell us big s do you also feel the love in this chilis tonight (ALSO when is someone gonna ask skeppy what song reminds him of bad. im waiting ((hed probably say something like a faster remix or something equally memey (((unless???)))
ANYWAY SORRY FOR MAKING YOU READ ALL OF THAT HOLY SHIT i dont wanna reread this to check for errors so it might be incoherent but again ty for letting me infodump about this it was super fun im in love with you anon
