soooo this last week has kind of been magic !!
so I managed to submit all my essays on time which was mad fun because it made my life 10x easier and then on wednesday a friend of mine visited from a different country!!! we just hung out on my roof and in my room and we were watching movies and eating pizza and swapping gossip and like...I just missed her so much I was so happy to see her ♡♡♡ and then later that night I made fudge for our holiday potluck and I was just listening to Christmas-ish songs and taking bites of sweetened condensed milk ♡ the next day it was the last last day of first term ever so no one really did any work and we just kind of goofed off in math and we were all supposed to be ✨festive✨ so I put candy canes in my hoops and a friend of mine wrapped herself in fairy lights ☆ and then we had our illegal potluck and it was delicious !!!!! there were cookies and chips and coke and christmas music and I have no idea what the hell was going on but goddamn was it fun. turns put some people dont know the words to jingle bell rock which was really funny and we tried to get everyone to say ‘last last day of first term ever!’ but its just a video of us yelling that i will treasure forever after. then we had the last two periods off I chugged some coke we had more snacks talked about hot leading actors and pretty comic book art and then we headed homeee after lots of hugs bc im actually not gonna see them fo most of this winter ;( but then the first day of winter break i went ice skating with a few of them and we took the train to get there and it was really long, had to switch line at the most crowded station and we almost got run over crossing the street to get to the rink but the sunshine was all golden and i couldn’t stop laughing the whole time. but when we got there the rink was closed for an ice show until seven that evening and we were all like :0 so we kind of just hung on the street for a bit yelling at each other and laughing because we couldn’t decide where to go; and then we took the train back to a mall that we had passed by and there were so many people we kind of had to form a conga line and we were the MOST obnoxious people on the train oh my god we couldn’t stop laughing i dont even know what we were laughing at! but we had lunch? dinner? at the mall and THEN made our way back to ice rink AGAIN but this time while were waiting for the train one of my friends started playing christmas music and the other two were dancing to it and then we made mock-ups for a stupid-but-innocent tiktok trend and when we finally got to the ice rink we were teaching each other to skate and this little seven-year-old pro-skater comes up to us and lectures us on rink safety and not holding hands! and then he and his brother decided to follow us around and they told us their life story THEY WERE SO FUNNY AND CUTE and there was a little girl who decided I was going to help her to learn how to skate because I had encouraged her to try new things and when she figured out how to skate she came back and showed me ! and then on our way BACK to the train we were walking some well-lit but mostly quiet streets so you could hear us laughing the whole time and we stopped to do the tiktok trend AGAIN (it's not actually going onto to tiktok tho) and we were just on the train losing our shit about something or the other but when it was my stop my friend almost didnt let go of my hand (because I was going to travel for most of the break and she didnt want me to go) and my friend who doesn't really give lots of hugs gave me a really good hug and it made me feel so loved♡♡♡...and then I went home and watched ep 1 of titans which I have been saving up ☆ forever after ☆ and yeah! just been so happy I feel like my heart could burst i genuinely couldnt have asked for a better group of people to spend my senior year with ☆☆☆
#sorry for the long post#but yes. wordvomit because i dont know how else to express things!!! cheers ♡#♡#personal#diary days

I love reading your asks so if it's okay I want to see what you think of different anime: sword/art online, bor/uto, haik/yuu, kimetsu no ya/iba, No /6, yaoi anime, hun/ter x hun/ter, mag/nus bride, and yo/i just to start. Thank you in advance!
Oh goodness! Alright, yes, okay this is different than my usual asks and I’m all for it! That’s so cool you like reading my answers this much! I’ll do my best not to disappoint (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و ̑̑
1. Sword Art Online – I couldn’t get by the first few episodes. The character designs were… very generic and all the females looked like sisters. The plot was also really, really weak and lackluster for me. I don’t like stuff that has a lot of romance in it and the romance was so forced in this one that it was cringey right from the beginning.
2. Boruto – Never. You couldn’t pay me to associate myself with this spinoff or the thing it spawned from.
3. Haikyuu!! – I’m not into it that much. I watched the first season, read some of it, and enjoyed some of the characters, but it was just so repetitious I fell out of it. I’m a hard person to sell when it comes to sports anime because I used to play a lot of sports and was even sent to different countries to play football for awhile. To see volleyball as a sport instead of a recreation or hobby is a stretch for me as I never found it challenging to be good at and I always got bored playing it. A bunch of friends and I play it at the beach sometimes and that’s fun, but it’s mainly fun because we’re goofing around and making up our own rules to keep it interesting. I may go back to this anime sometime, but it’s unlikely. And don’t get me wrong, I did like some of the characters, but I can only watch so many eps of them stretching out a match before I get totally burnt out and unfortunately, a lot of sports anime are like this so it’s not uncommon for me to lose interest.
4. KnY – I haven’t started watching this one yet, but I plan to! It looks interesting!
5. No. 6 – I enjoyed it when I watched it, but the ending was really off. It didn’t feel like there was much of a climax and really, the climax itself felt like it was incomplete in some way. Then Nezumi just… left and here we are however many years later with no resolution. I really enjoyed the foundation they setup with this one, but it just felt like they didn’t do enough with it to get the most out of it, if that makes sense?
6. I don’t like any yaoi anime LOLOL They’re all very noncon-esque and that is soooooo not my thing. I really dislike yaoi tropes and all the anime have that “I’m the seme and you’re my uke and though you’re telling me you don’t want this I’m just going to fuck you until you like my cock” vibe and I’m not about that at all. I also don’t like male/male shows where one of them ends up dying at the end. Miss me on all that shit, thank you. ((I don’t know if Given is considered yaoi, which is shouldn’t be because it’s so light, but that one is cute from what I remember.))
7. Hunter x Hunter – Shower and lather me in this for the rest of my life, I’d be fine with that. I enjoyed this anime so, so much. I haven’t read the manga and I definitely should since I love the anime so much. I was having fun with it and all the characters all throughout, but when it hit the Chimera Ant arc, that’s the point the anime went from “wow I really enjoy this” to “holy shit this is fucking incredible.” Like I said above, sports anime tend to annoy me because they drag out simple shit for too long ((like a volleyball going over a net taking half an episode, for example)) and the same sort of technique was used in the Chimera Ant arc, but it was incredible. You got a minute by minute, even a second by second, display of what was going on, but the difference here is that there was so fucking much going on that they had to show it that slowly or you’d miss something. Because you had so many characters doing so many different things simultaneously and the plot hhhhhhhhh the goddamn plot was so good! I remember just devouring those episodes because I couldn’t get enough, I couldn’t stop watching, I had to know what was going to happen! As is probably known by now, I’m not a huge fan of romance, but I’d be shocked if there was someone out there that genuinely didn’t like what was built between Meruem and Komugi considering how well done and devastating it was.
The Chairman Election arc was my least favorite and it was a really odd arc ((to me)) to follow something as emotional and powerful as the Chimera Ant arc. I found it somewhat boring, especially after such an intense arc, and this leads me into the one issue I have with Hunter x Hunter. I loved the anime so much, but Alluka was a mistake from my perspective. I was fine with her when she first appeared and I want to give the author time to show us where he’s going to go with her, but she’s a character that shouldn’t exist in any media. She can do anything, she has no limitations. It doesn’t matter what problem she has or what they’re up against, Alluka has the ability to make anything happen. I’m glad Gon was saved, but the manner in which he was saved was disappointing to me. Right now, the creator will always have an “ace in the hole” in his back pocket because Alluka will be able to fix or alter anything or any situation he puts the characters into, which is just… not good. OTHER THAN THAT THOUGH I love this anime. The fact that Illumi and Hisoka are a canon couple is so fitting and puts an awesome new spin onto the Hunter Exam arc. I, of course, have a soft spot for Killua. Biscuit is an amazing character, I adore her and I love Palm too. I could go on and on about the characters I enjoy oh my god I’ve barely scratched the surface and this space has gotten filled enough I think. So, I’ll conclude this segment by saying that I’m ready and willing to talk about Hunter x Hunter anytime, anywhere!
8. Magnus Bride – Fantasy element, awesome! Character designs, beautiful! Het romance, eh I guess? 16 year old bride, fuck this shit I’m out! ((I gave the first episode a try, but was not good and then I found out the bride is 16 and no amount of gorgeous animation could get me to keep going.))
9. Yuri!!! On Ice – I really enjoyed this! Like I said about three times now, sports anime are difficult to sell to me, but this was as focused on a whole slew of characters as much as it was on the ice skating routines. You got multiple routines per episode during competitions so it kept you engaged and it had a strong cast of characters that were all very likable. The story was really cute and the adorable twist that Viktor was the one after Yuri all along was well done. The pictures from the party were adorable. The message the anime sent was wholesome as well and the way it ended was heartwarming. I know there’s a movie coming out for it soon and I’m looking forward to it!

your personal top 5 moments in Arc-V(this should keep you busy)
Boy.
Okay so I was on mobile last night so I waited to answer this.
Also this isn’t necessarily my top 5 cause @chromsai are made an amazing list of their top 5 moments and honestly about half of my favorite moments are on there but to give variety I’ll do other moments
5. Yuya and Yuto v Serena and Ruri (124-125)
oh god, this duel.
Okay first, after like one-hundred episodes, Yuto finally meets up with Ruri, that’s even longer than what the fruits had to wait. And he’s so happy to see her???
And he wants to save her from the Academia so bad??? That he switched cards with Yuya??? (I mean that kinda doesn’t make sense but its ygo so whatevs)
And then when Shun arrives to help save Ruri, Serena fucking tasers him.
Like damn, I know this is seriously but shit that’s funny. How the fuck did she get a taser??? Like damn if this wasn’t a card game anime she should have went and tasered Yuya and all of Leo’s problems would have been solved.
And then we learn about the parasites, and yea a lot of people don’t like them and think the plot point was stupid but you can’t deny that putting bugs into fourteen year olds head’s is pretty messed up.
AND THE FACE YUYA MAKES WHEN HE FINDS OUT YUZU ALSO HAS A BUG IN HER HEAD MY HEART.
And then, it happens.
THE BOI IS BACK. And he is m a d. Then not even two minutes later we get this sweet flashbacks of how Yuto and Ruri meet??? And god they’re cute I forgot how much I like this ship haha
Looks at how smitten this boy is, what a loser.
So the duel progresses, and it keeps switching who has the upper hand and once Serena and Ruri get the upper hand once more Mr. Ugly Face comes and is creepy and I don’t feel like getting the screen caps of him.
But that leaves Yuya pissed, so of course he goes berserker. And honestly, that was the only time I was genuinely afraid of him. Like seeing berserker Yuya was always cool and stuff and he WRECKS SHIT. But this was different. ZARC ACTUALLY SHOWS UP. I get chills everytime I see this scene.
And Yuya’s feelings effect Yuto?? Like before this and even after this when Yuya is berserker Yuto most times isn’t unless Yugo and Yuri are around??
AND WE GET ODD EYES RAGING DRAGON WHO’S REALLY SCARY BUT ALSO REALLY PRETTY????
OF COURSE LETS NOT FORGET THE ICONIC LINE BY SAKAKI YUYA AND HIS SATAN FACE
4. Serena v Yugo (84-85)
So this might have to due with the fact that Yugo and Serena are two of my favorite characters from Arc-V BUT THIS WERE SUCH GOOD EPS.
First we start off with gold like I die every time I watch their introduction.
While this scene is very funny it also reflects their personalities. Serena, a child soldier, is taking this very seriously and is offended at what Yugo did. While happy-go-lucky Yugo is a ball of sunshine and is being very comical about this. They’re at opposite ends of the spectrum.
Then when the duel starts all poor Yugo can think about is Rin (also our first time hearing Rin’s voice)
This odv backfires on Yugo cause he doesn’t think and just summons a monster in attack mode then ends his turn. Serena’s pissed because she’s been taught to take dueling seriously all her life and Yugo just did that. But he is taking it seriously??? He’s just a giant goof ball????
Luckily his feelings for Rin works both ways and he remembers what she told him about focusing, and Yugo apologizes to Serena about how he’s acting.
This duel isn’t just about Yugo’s development, Serena gets a lot too (which is awesome cause most times a duel only develops once character or waits until the opponent is defeated to develop the other one)
Both Yugo and Serena are very skilled duelists, but they’ve lived completely different lives. Yugo lived as a free spirit, learning to duel better so escape poverty and being on the streets. Serena’s was raised as a captive princess and was taught to be like a soldier. But the same time both of them just want to escape their old lives and find better ones.
This is shown a lot with how they react to the Action Cards Roger keeps trying to give Serena. At first Serena wants them cause she wants to win, but once she finds, or figures out, that it was a free handout she doesn’t grab them. She wants to win with her power. Her luck. She’s tired of people treating her differently and wants to prove herself. Yugo on the other hand will take all the free stuff. He’s not use to that, even if it cheap or cheating as long as it helps you in the long run then use it.
Both of these philosophies hold valid points can and are both right in a sense.
We get Yuya and Yugo synching again.
Serena being like ???? What is this???? People are cheering??? And I’m happy??? Dueling = fun??????
We see Serena and Yugo’s strongest monsters
THIS SCENE THAT, AND IM NOT EXAGGERATING, GETS MY HEART POUNDING EVERYTIME I WATCH IT
3. Yuya v Jack round 2 (96-98)
So the City is fucking rioting right now and because of Yuzu’s words to Yuya (my fruitsssss), he has the confidence to duel Jack again and win this time. And to tell the city to calm the fuck down and stop fighting with card games ffs
(Look at the Lancers being dramatic when ppl start raiding the area)
And I don’t get when ppl say the Synchro was a waste of time?? Like Yuya got so much confidence this arc?? And learned not just to convey his feelings but others as well??
And while entertaining Jack just fucking owns Yuya and Yuya’s upset that he can’t fulfill his dad’s legacy. The Jack motherfucking Atlas tells him to remember his own style of dueling.
Because even tho Yuya has improved since ep 1, he’s still not ‘better’ at least entirely. He’s not wearing a fake smile anymore and he doesn’t joke about stuff anymore nor does he hide in goggles. BUT he still clings onto his father who disappeared three years. Trying to up load his legacy and he someone he can be proud of, when Yuya doesn’t need to do that. He doesn’t have to continue Sakaki Yusho’s dueling, he should create and show Sakaki Yuya’s dueling.
At the same time, there’s nothing wrong with building off of someone and turning it into something else. Which is what Yuya learns through this duel. He’s Sakaki Yusho’s son and has inherited his dueling, but at the same time he’s the pioneer of Pendulum Summoning and has learned all the summoning methods - with the latest being Synchro.
So he takes what he’s borrow - his father’s dueling, ability to use other summoning methods - and combines it with what’s his own - Pendulum Summoning - can creates something that uses all three and gives it form.
Look at this boy realizing this his own dueling is a combination of everyone around him and how he was able to go further with Pendulum than he (and Zarc) ever imagined.
Also some ppl say that the Lancers don’t do shit??? Like look at these losers looking cool going to protect the City because that’s what they’ve came here to do.
THE CLIMAX OF THIS BATTLE IS BEAUTIFUL??? EVERYONE FROM SYNCHRO COMES TO SUPPORT YUYA LIKE HOLY SHIT. LOOK HOW EVERYONE COMES TOGETHER.
THEY EVEN BROUGHT BACK JEAGER FOR THIS MOMENT.
This was such a hyped duel. Like god I can’t watch it without grinning.
2. End of Maimi City Tournament (45-50)
Okay so this is where I have to stop using pictures because A) this is about five eps B) I’ve been doing this for about eight hours now (my pc is v slow loading the eps and I won’t let me save it as a draft) and C) I’m at 138 pic rn hahaha….
This is the first time the Standard duelists (and Serena) see the true terror of the dimensional war, and this is the first time Yuya has seen people use dueling for something so cruel.
People get carded, characters we cared about get carded, and it takes fucking what seven-ish of them to take down three Oblesik duelist.
Like things are fucking crazy - Yuzu disappears, Yuya has flashbacks of Yuto’s memories, Yuya fucking duels Sora.
Oh god Yuya and Sora’s duel. Like yea, Sora’s duels with Shun are v fucked up but we’ve seen Yuya and Sora’s friendship grown since ep 5. And just gets stomped on.
Yuya can’t understand why Sora is doing what he’s doing, while Sora thinks it’s practically common sense (and he thinks it’s for a good cause). This is the first time Yuya’s philosophy is put into question and it’s the first time we truly see ‘duels without smiles’ and honestly it’s kinda terrifying.
The future Lancers only survivor through their teeth and even tho we just spent like ten episodes seeing characters like Yuya, Gongenzaka, and Yuzu get stronger, that’s not enough, and it’s sad but true.
This marks to point of no return for the Standard kiddies and for them to face the reality that not all duels can be dueled with smiles.
1. Yuto’s arrival (7)
So rewind to 2014, sixteen year old me hasn’t watched ygo since episode like 7 of Zexal. I hear that there’s a new ygo series airing and I decide to check it out.
Nothing really sticks out to me. Okay, Yuya was a fine protag but besides that it seemed like a normal shounen to me. Father disappear mysterious before the plot, character’s have gag lines they spout every other sentence, duelists have cards that relate to their aesthetic or what they like, nothing new and kinda standard.
But still I watched the first couple of eps cause why not? The action duels are pretty enough and I loved Yuya’s tomato hair.
Then episode 7 aired.
I go on tumblr and see people freaking out - the spoilers have come out. Besides finales I don’t really care for spoilers so I check them out.
And there’s a guy who looks actually like Yuya.
I was genuinely shocked and interested in the plot (something I haven’t been since dark signers), and I watched the ep.
First I’m surprised that it’s Yuzu that discovers this important plot point, not Yuya (and the show continues to leave him in the dark till like ep 38). Also it implied that Yuzu is more important to the plot than we thought which like, blew my mind. Anzu may have been Yugi’s first friend but she didn’t add anything to the plot, Asuka’s plot was about her brother which ended at like ep 20 and had the SoL in season 2 then practically nothing in seasons 3 and 4. Aki was a signer which made her special, but not within the main characters cause they were all signers and her psychic powers got dropped and Kotori…lmao.
But Yuzu added to the plot??? She has something special to her self???? Besides the huge ass plot twist about trying to figure out who Yuto was we also had to figure out why Yuzu was special????
So while I stopped watching Arc-V, I still wanted to keep up with the show so I followed a few ppl who watched it and kept up with it because I wanted to know what the hell was going on.
Yea the ep itself wasn’t too noteworthy, but its the ep that got people questioning, got me truly invested in the show, and it’s the ep I tell people to get to to see if they’re interest in Arc-V.
So thanks Yuto, it’s cause of you I officially got stuck in card games hell forever.

bre’s big ol podcast rec list
heyyy everyone! so @bodhilukes asked for podcast recommendations on twitter and @czarrish and i immediately jumped on that. i was gonna make this list sometime this month away, and im super excited to do it! this is probably gonna get long so under the cut we go!
COMEDIES:
1. Hello From The Magic Tavern
Updates: Every Monday
Current # Of Eps: 101
General Length Of Eps: 40 mins to an hour
Synopsis: Arnie Niekamp fell through a dimensional portal at a Burger King in Chicago into the magical, fantastical land of Foon. He’s still getting a slight wifi signal from the Burger King, so he hosts a weekly podcast with his buddies Chunt (a shapeshifter who normally takes the shape of a badger) and Usidore, a wizard. They interview different creatures from Foon each week as Arnie tries to learn about Foon, while also trying to figure out how to get back home.
Notes: Okay, I have to say it. This is my favorite podcast. I love it to absolute death. It 100% got me into improv comedy and comedy podcasts, to the point where that’s pretty much all I listen to anymore. Arnie, Matt, and Adal are sweethearts and the show is so genuinely funny and interesting. Please give this one a listen.
2. The Adventure Zone
Updates: Every other Thursday
Current # Of Eps: 57
General Length Of Eps: An hour, but there are a few that are two or three.
Synopsis: The McElroys play Dungeons and Dragons. But it’s also so much more than that.
Notes: Okay you all know how much I love this podcast. I love it to death. I’m still only like halfway through it but god it’s amazing and I’m so angry I didn’t start it earlier. All of the characters are amazing and Griffin is truly such an amazing storyteller. It’s so much deeper than you would originally think, and it will make you cry like a baby. Please listen to The Adventure Zone. Holy shit.
3. CoolGames Inc
Updates: Every Friday
Current # Of Eps: 45, with some CGI Jrs mixed in.
General Length Of Eps: An hour (CGI Jrs are 20 mins)
Synopsis: Polygon’s Nick Robinson and Griffin McElroy take listener suggestions and make video games out of them.
Notes: These are my favorite soft boys, and they are just too funny. Some of the games they come up with are genuinely good games that you’ll be upset don’t actually exist, but most of them are just silly goofs that are guaranteed to make you laugh. This podcast single-handedly got me through last semester, so shoutout to Nick and Griffin for that. You should also check out CoolGames Inc Animated!
4. Improvised Star Trek
Updates: Every other Monday
Current # Of Eps: 157, with a BUNCH of bonus eps mixed in
General Length Of Eps: About 30 mins for regular eps, 5 mins for bonus
Synopsis: These are the voyages of the starship Sisyphus, Starfleet’s worst crew. Captain Julius Valentine Baxter and his crew, including First Officer Corbomite Hayes, Science Officer Crick Watson, Ensign Laserbear, and Chief Medical Officer Zarlene Zonaldson, just to name a few, get into way too much trouble out in the final frontier.
Notes: I started listening to this because of Matt Young from HFTMT (and because I got super into Trek), but god I fell in love with every single character. Quite a few guests from HFTMT are regulars on IST, and their shenanigans are just amazing. If you love Trek, you’ll love this.
5. Siblings Peculiar
Updates: Infrequently
Current # Of Eps: 29
General Length Of Eps: 30 mins
Synopsis: Adam and Sarah Peculiar (pronounced Pec-U-lAr) are trying to figure out what happened to their parents, paranormal investigators that suddenly disappeared 10 years ago. They interview conspiracy theorists of all sorts as they try to gain any information they can about their parents’ whereabouts.
Notes: I started listening to this one because of Adal Rifai from HFTMT, and I’m glad I did because he and his sister are so funny together. Their conspiracy theories are so off-the-wall hilarious (there’s a whole episode about Grease being propaganda where they interview the real creator of Grease), although I will say the comedy might not be for everyone as it can veer a little into the offensive (but it’s satire and I personally love it). It’s less frequent now because Sadieh got cast in a tv show, but I still recommend listening to it!
DRAMAS:
1. Welcome to Night Vale
Updates: Bimonthly, on the 1st and the 15th.
Current # Of Eps: 103
General Length Of Eps: 30 mins
Synopsis: Cecil hosts a radio show in the mysterious town of Night Vale, where abnormal things like Glow Clouds, angels, ominous dog parks, and floating cats are commonplace.
Notes: We’ve all listened to WTNV at this point, right? Or at least heard of it? Besides an old Fringe podcast I used to listen to back in like 2008, this was the first podcast I ever listened to. Cecil’s voice is just incredibly soothing, I find this podcast really helps when I’m super depressed, and I used to stock up on eps specifically for those times.
2. The Black Tapes/TANIS
Updates: they used to be weekly but they look pretty infrequent now
Current # Of Eps: TBTP has 24, TANIS has 25, both with several bonus eps mixed in
General Length Of Eps: 30-45 mins
Synopsis: TBTP is about journalists Alex and Nic investigating The Strand Institute’s Richard Strand and his various black tapes that may be evidence of the paranormal. TANIS is the spinoff, where Nic focuses more on real life conspiracy theories as he tries to find the location of the mythical TANIS.
Notes: I’m not gonna lie, I did drop both of these podcasts and I’m not sure if I will pick them back up. But the first season of both were incredible, and @czarrish introduced them to me and they really got me into podcasts. In my opinion they both declined in quality during their second seasons, but that’s just my opinion!
3. The Penumbra Podcast
Updates: I think it’s on hiatus? But I think it was bi-weekly at one point
Current # Of Eps: 19, with bonuses mixed in
General Length Of Eps: 30-50 mins
Synopsis: The Penumbra is the grandest hotel this side of Nowhere. The series mostly follows Detective Juno Steel trying to solve mysteries, but they’re all stories you recognize told in ways you won’t expect.
Notes: Again, I’m not gonna lie, I’ve barely listened to this and I really don’t know that much about it. I had to take a lot of the synopsis from the actual one on their website. But the first two episodes were awesome, so I feel confident in recommending it. I think they might be rebooting it?? Idk, you might want to ask @czarrish for more details.
4. Alice Isn’t Dead
Updates: Season one wrapped in Jul 2016 and it’s been on hiatus ever since. edit: s2 is starting soon!
Current # Of Eps: 10
General Length Of Eps: 30 mins
Synopsis: Alice is a truck driver who’s driving across the country in search of her missing wife, who she thought had been dead but now has reason to believe otherwise.
Notes: This is from the creators of WTNV and features the voice of Jasika Nicole, who I know and love from Fringe but also does the voice of Dana on WTNV. It’s spooky but not too much so, and I’ve admittedly only listened to 3 episodes but just like Cecil, Jasika has a wonderfully soothing voice.
MISC:
1. Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-Men
Updates: Every Monday
Current # Of Eps: 148
General Length Of Eps: An hour
Synopsis: Basically what it says on the tin: two guys explain in detail everything that has happened in the X-Men universe, starting at the very beginning.
Notes: Again I haven’t listened to too much of this, but it’s really fun. I’ve loved X-Men for a while but I always get confused with all the retcons and different verses and stuff, but Jay and Miles do a wonderful job of explaining everything without making it confusing.
2. Terrace House Mafia
Updates: Infrequently
Current # Of Eps: 14
General Length Of Eps: 10-15 mins
Synopsis: Polygon’s Nick Robinson and his roommate Chad watch Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City and talk about it. That’s it. But it’s cute as fuck.
Notes: I absolutely love listening to these guys talk about Terrace House because they’re going through the exact same journey that I (and probably everyone) went on when I first watched it. It’s quick and super fun to listen to.
3. The Probe
Updates: Was weekly, but s1 wrapped in November so it’s been on hiatus
Current # Of Eps: 8
General Length Of Eps: 30 mins
Synopsis: A satirical take on news podcasts, two journalists follow the election at Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School, and learn about the country’s political climate along the way.
Notes: Again, I started listening to this because Matt Young from HFTMT produced it, but I really enjoyed it beyond that. If you like HFTMT, you’ll recognize a lot of the Chicago-based actors in The Probe. Also I wasn’t exactly sure where to put this so I just put it in MISC cuz it’s like... definitely funny and improvised but also it’s a little serious, maybe? Idk, it’s satire. And it’s great satire.
I’m also gonna include the podcasts that I’m subscribed to but I haven’t actually started listening to yet. They piqued my interest but I just haven’t gotten around to listening to them yet! So here we go: The Bright Sessions, Darkest Night, The Hilarious World of Depression, Hollywood Handbook, Homecoming, Lore, My Brother My Brother And Me, Reply All, The Room Where It’s Happening, Wolf 359, With Special Guest Lauren Lapkus.

Ok ok you're getting me into mbmbam so I have some questions about your listening experience: how did you hear about the pod? Where should I start? Fav episode? Fav joke? Fav brother??? Do West and Riley listen too?
sorry for sitting on this but it’s hard to answer bc!! i have so much to say about these Boys!!
- @cheatcommandos got me into it because he was like this shit is hilarious listen to it and i was like i like podcasts and trust your judgement and i’m glad i did. from there I got Riley & West into it too and we all three got into TAZ as well, which also started us playing d&d ourselves!!!
- where should you start: NOT IN THE FIRST 100 EPISODES THATS FOR SURE, like, god bless these boys because they’ve grown so much and become so accountable and learned and gotten so much better but there’s a lot of shit back when they first started (which now is literally 4-5 years ago, and I’ve learned and changed a lot in 5 years so I Get It) which is rough to hear. Especially coming from sweet angel Travis McElroy who is SO gender expansive and SO supportive and SO on top of his shit now but made a lot of shitty jokes back then!!! (side note: honestly I’m crediting all 3 of them getting married with at least some of their learning/reduction in relying on shitty sexist and otherwise -ist jokes. those are some good good wives they have and I’m pretty sure they SCHOOLED em)
- so honestly I’d start with like episode 200 or 300 and get caught up to the present and THEN you can go back and listen to earlier ones if you want (you will probably want because you’ll crave that content at that point). it’s also great to be caught up with the recent eps in the facebook group, which is so much fun and I highly recommend joining, because there’s constant inside jokes and a lot of really really nice and supportive ppl and also a shit ton of trans queer folx which I think says a lot about how safe this podcast has become for us/what good work the bros are doing. (also Lin Manuel Miranda is a member and posts shit all the time)
- i skipped all over the place so I’m hard pressed to pick a favorite but you can’t go wrong with starting with the Totinos Family Fun Hour because Holy Shit, Griffin, You are Lactose Intolerant, PLEASE STOP
- I also suck at picking a favorite goof (again SO MUCH CONTENT) but Haunted Doll Watches are fucking amazing, and also just any time Griffin gets really mad about something because it’s always hilarious, and any time Griffin does any kind of inflection sing-songy thing, and also every time Travis makes a bad pun and the other two just entirely ignore him. what’s so amazing about their comedy is they’re all just INCREDIBLY quick witted and good at improv so they end up spinning these elaborate scenarios riffing off each other that are just fucking incredible all the time- fav brother: nooooo this is too hard I love them all and for different reasons!!! I love Justin for Taako’s characterization and what a good dad he is and his genuineness and I love Travis for how sweet and gentle and kind he is and how he loves to paint his nails and his terrible puns and honesty!! and I love Griffin for everything he is and does because he’s a GOOD GOOD FUNNY BOY. like just watch one monster factory or listen to one episode of TAZ (which you should also listen to) and fall in love. griffin also has a podcast about The Bachelor with his wife and adores Carly Rae Jepson and Terrace House and he’s so good
- the 3 of us love listening to eps together, West and I listen the most religiously and will text each other when we’re listening to the new episode on Mondays and talk about the parts that made us cry laughing (there’s always at least one) and yeah..........ME LOVE THEM!!!!!
