I produce too many characters so we are going to do uh. Crazy:B + Mama + Tattsun for this.

Rinne: I think he used to watch 2wink's street performances before he ran away for good/right after he left and recognized them at ES and feels a sense of pride at how much they've grown since then (and also just wants to take care of them which is why he messes with them so much)

Niki: He should have been a guest judge on whatever version of Nailed it or Failed it exists in the ES Verse when they were in America. HiMERU could interpret for him and I just think it would be funny to watch Niki critique beginner/bad bakers at their craft and offer advice to them. Also his iron stomach could potentially be fun for everyone else to watch if someone fucked up real bad.

HiMERU: Did acting in college and was a part of several productions. Some of his old classmates recognize him vaguely but can't put a finger on it when they see CrazyB lives and interviews with him.

Kohaku: His sisters used to braid/style his hair growing up and he always claimed to hate it but he kinda misses it after moving out until Niki starts brushing it for him one day and Kohaku asks if he can try putting it in a small pony tail like Niki's.

Madara: Actually really good at flower arranging. Got into it while he was figuring out what flowers to put in the field for Kanata and wanted to be able to express his feelings to people in a way they probably wouldn't go out of their way to learn because being honest sucks but everyone likes flowers and nobody actually pays that much attention to flower language.

Tatsumi: I cannot for the life of me remember if this is canon or not but to me he watched over the kids and ran Sunday school programs at his parents' church and really enjoyed it. He doesn't have any siblings of his own so his own house was kind of lonely but he enjoyed getting to play with other kids even if it was just once a week.

Okay so!!! 18Trip is a new game made by the same people who made a3 and the writing is so... its really good but basically Yokohama (known as HAMA in universe) is really failing in its tourism ventures, so much so that it's considered like a total flop, about to lose all funding from Tokyo and really just not a great place and so enters Kafka Oguro and our protagonist, Kaede/Momiji Hamasaki (basically you can play as either, they're big brother and little sister and there are a few dialogue differences but largely nothing changes) who are going to revitalize HAMA's tourism districts (known as Wards, and there are 18 of them.) Kafka becomes the 0th ward mayor of HAMA which is essentially like the leader of the district and everyone is like lol what's this chronically ill 20yo going to do and then Kafka just goes okay so we're no longer going to take money from Tokyo and we're going to become the best tourist area in Japan just you wait!

So he starts out towards his goal by trying to recruit ward mayors to each ward, and also divides all 18 wards into 4 groups (which are aligned with different times of day, you have the dawn/morning group, the day group, the evening group, and the night group) and the morning group which has a full tl of the first half of its story now already has 3 mayors for its 4 wards and they just have to find a 4th one. But of the wards that already have mayors, none of them really get along? Renga (3rd ward mayor) and Liguang (4th ward mayor) fucking hate each other and it's very obvious why in their character novels (which. they say not to read them until after you've read the main stories but all the novels have been translated to some degree and the main stories are all still in progress so...) but Renga has a weird inferiority complex that he covers up by being absolutely insufferable and pretending to be super rich and exclusive but after the main story his appeal has largely become how much of a wet cat he is. I think you'd like him honestly. Liguang's family has been close to Renga's for forever but something happened about 12 years ago (smiles) that caused a rift between the two boys and now they just fucking hate each other. The other mayor, Yukikaze (2nd ward), is the player's cousin and the two of them are very close much to Kafka's dismay. The two of them constantly fight over the player's time and it's actually very funny. Cousin who never sees you and just wants to hang out and spend time together like when you were kids and your childhood best friend with a very obvious crush on you who cannot deal with your cousin trying to hang out and lashes out at every opportunity because of it. Kafka is also just all around a silly guy

I have to go somewhere and this is getting really long but I have essays on the other units too (still working through the day2 translations on tumblr for their main story before hitting up their light novels a bit but otherwise.) You can read the prologue and the first half of r1ze's main story which sets up a lot of things that are mentioned in the other main stories on yukikaze.love if you're interested ! There is also a masterlist in progress of different card/story translations here and a discord for the wiki that people send tls to which is where I find most of the ones I read that aren't on tumblr already. sora is just a silly little guy i think he go "^-^ hahihuheho" (thats how his laugh is) in chat and fuuta would be like okay. a child. and then sora absolutely destroys him at whatever game theyre playing idk it would have to be one with a coop mode. i think fuuta leans towards rpgs though judging from the bring it on mv. while fuuta goes for the traditional knight/fighter character i think sora would be the type of player to have a character that looks cute and small and then is actually super overpowered. hes just doing his best but i think fuuta would rage quit after sora oneshots all the enemies because he cant stand it when other people are better than him

natsume is funny because we know natsume canonically ragequits when he plays video games with tsumugi because tsumugi is So Awful at them. in online coop hes probably more normal about it but would like... just Watch his teammates for a minute to decide if their fighting style is Good enough. fuuta's like "dude wtf are u doing" meanwhile natsume is Judging. theyre both red but that doesnt really matter. they could probably be good teammates because fuuta picks the brute force knight with occasional magic weapons (actually i think most of the offensive power in his mvs comes from the magical weapons and not him which is a fascinating nod to how he's actually just some loser and all his online power comes from like a persona/his followers but thats for another post maybe) and natsume would be the magic user type of character. im talking like exclusively catalyst main in genshin just because someone said he couldnt. but the magic dps and physical dps would work well together

jun is probably the most similar in playstyle to fuuta i would guess but hes way more chill about it. hes kind of the casual type here to have fun. would listen to fuuta talk about meta in chat and then go "ok then why arent you using these strategies" and fuuta sets him on fire in game

makoto is also a good gamer but he definitely leans into the teamwork aspect. like, always does coop in games not because he needs the help but because its fun and he likes it. would probably listen patiently to fuuta explaining meta stuff and go "ok cool!!" despite already knowing all of it

as a whole, i don't really mind them much? eccentric party night is overplayed as hell though. it's been constantly in the top rankings of the yearly enstars song poll on twitter, and by god does it piss me off. just let of go... it's been years. twilight pentagram is the same, it's in the top 5 i think. ugh, enough already. and it doesn't really hit that certain spot for me. just not a fan of them or their music (which is just two)

starting with rei. i think you already have an idea about what i feel about mr vampire mullet here. i don't outright hate him, but i don't like him either. i find him a bit annoying, to be honest. why's he always acting like a know it all wise guy? for the whole mysterious spooky vampire image? sir, you're 20, calm down.

and don't get me started with the obvious favoritism that the company has with him! gee rei, how come happyele lets you have two global exclusives?! why? what the hell, what is the purpose of it? imo, i think every character should be limited to one global exclusive card. again, how is this guy's happyele's best money maker?!

i don't have much thoughts on wataru though, i think he's fine. though sometimes, his voicelines irk me a little. i would be reading a story with wataru in it and all of a sudden i'm going to hear him moaning for some reason. wataru, what the hell.

then there's shu. do not let the shu pfp fool you, i am no valkP, nor am i a shuP. ngl, when i first started playing enstars, i saw him on the loading screen and thought that he looks like the most pretentious and annoying bitch i've ever seen in a mobile game. and i think i was right. almost every story i've read with shu in it, he's snobbish and looking down at everyone else. while he does have some scenes where he's not like that, the whole bitchy attitude just stuck with me.

also i think i have such a negative perception of shu, because most of his producers are so, so irritating. there would be someone out there saying that they don't really have much positive opinion about shu or valkyrie in general, and you would have several valkPs there private quote retweeting. i would not be surprised if i hear about someone getting doxxed by a shuP.

now natsume, the eccentrics' "precious" little brother. i'm going to start out by saying that, absolutely not. i do not like him at all. along with shu, my first impression of natsume isn't really positive. lol, i think my first thought was "ew why is he ugly" and then went to, "looks like an asshole". i just really don't like him. i hate how he treats tsumugi. almost every interaction between them is natsume either insulting or berating tsumugi or just straight up hitting and throwing things at him. what the fuck? and no one in the cast calls it out, and it pisses me off! they just play it off as natsume being a tsundere or something.

the fact that some natsumePs just disregard how much of a bitch this guy is just irritates me. at least a few have a functioning brain to point out that natsume is a dick, but those guys? nope, would rather ignore the fact that natsume is just as flawed as every other character in this game.

I've been playing Project Sekai for a little while now so here's a comparison of Ensemble Stars and Project Sekai

What Project Sekai does better:

I love going around the map and clicking on the little speech bubbles to get a fun interaction and also crystals

The gacha is cheaper. In Ensemble stars one pull costs 350 diamonds and one pull in Project Sekai costs 300 crystals I believe (they both let you spark at 300 pulls)

It's easier to farm crystals than dia at least in the early game. Largely because of the little area conversations, this might've chaged since enstars got achievements though

When you fail a show, you don't lose your bonus energy

Challenge show is more fun than Starry Live because there's not nine of them per day

The idol rank up system is so satisfying. I am still grinding fans for Arashi so I can get her to rank B.... 50k fans is too many and you basically get nothing for doing this whereas prosekai gives you crystals and stamp vouchers and makes it feel worth it to rank up even characters you don't care about

There appears to be no limit on how many cards you can hold

What Ensemble Stars does better:

I can actually full combo songs lol. I full combo up until about level 23 (which is in the hard difficulty) but in prosekai I've only full combo'd one song on easy.

MVs. I basically don't even see them while I'm playing prosekai but I notice the fucking Eden hip thrust everytime and I feel I am being punished but at least I know what the MV looks like.

Unlimited autolive + autolive takes your best score automatically

The design of the gacha. I am so bored when I pull in prosekai and I hate that I can't stop and stare at my 4 star for 10 minutes straight if I want (it's been too fast for me to take a screenshot in the past) and I genuinely find the enstars gacha exciting, it's the most exciting and satisfying one I've encountered besides Genshin and I play a decent amount of games with gacha mechanics in them

Infinite and Expert Live!! Such an incredible source of rewards (dia scout tickets (free gacha) as well as training materials) and playing it not realizing it had moved up a difficulty is how I realized I could play on hard

I believe the gacha droprate is more generous as it's 1% for the featured 5 star and in prosekai you're guaranteed one of the three 4 stars after 200 pulls and the general droprate appears to be 0.4% for each of the featured 4 stars. Sure that does add up to 1.2% for any of them but when you just want a specific one that drop rate is not very nice

Shift-Up’s removal of a woman’s work from their game Destiny Child after she voiced support for the VA who wore “girls do not need a prince” fundraiser shirt, their red light district looking advertising at a games convention, etc. when the images from the games con came out, there were conversations all over twitter about it from Korean women discussing NIKKE, gacha games, and their treatment of women. Did this youtuber take any of that into account?

On the off chance men are offended, they are catered to and promised it won’t happen again. If there was any inkling of feminist thought coming out of this game, what do you think the reaction would be from this main audience of “gamer” men? It’s not NIKKE lmao it’s Genshin, the game that also has multiple male characters incels cross culturally lose their fucking minds over hating, and of course had the $11k Korean incel protest balloon they ignored after removing their livestream chatroom. but for some reason these (usually male) youtubers don’t follow this, something that’s happening in reality, but would rather live in some fantasy world where their t&a game will make hentai addicts respect women. Having a game where scantily clad highly sexualized female characters the player “buys” obey their orders, engage in softcore porn animations and baiting dialogue will show the dominance of the straight male’s spending power and his “aesthetic” values. He is able to show off his financial prowess (enough money to spend gambling) and, because these games uniquely rely so much on character revenue, he is able to influence aspects like character design and even story beats through this. The all-male games like enstars were tolerated because they don’t take up space in a genre (gacha) that these men think should be all-female and they typically do not make as much money outside of a rare chart topping banner. However, now that we are seeing the massive success of mixed sex games like Genshin and an all-male cast game like Love and Deepspace dominating revenue charts, we can see huge pushback from male players. A lot of this, as I’ve posted previously, comes in the form pointedly, specifically of belittling female players’ finances: first, female players were laughed at because they were no competition, and now when they do spend money male players say it’s actually money from their boyfriends/husband/male family members anyway so it’s not really theirs. If you saw that IGN article about Black Myth Wukong, there were comments like this too, “we don’t need female’s money” etc. a couple of years ago there were also male chinese leakers (sorry insane way to phrase this lol) for Genshin Impact who were caught discussing how they would specifically make fake leaks about male characters dying in the story or that their damage was catastrophically bad because they thought it would make women stop playing the game.

All of this to say, I think the real fear here for men is female financial independence. seeing men’s reaction to women being able to afford frivolous, expensive hobbies and begin to dominate men financially (especially in a “hobby” that had typically been predominantly male) is going to tell you a lot more than looking at a gacha story in a bubble. Personally I find monitoring the way these games function in society more interesting than the actual games. Of course there are also aspects like nationalism, sinophobia, racism that play a significant part but for now I’m just discussing misogyny here.

What made you ship it?

tbh. I think the fics by nocturneatmidnight their izuleos and their knights fics in general are sooo good. I was reading these before I read that many of the actual game stories (a lot of my original knowledge of enstars came from fic so take that as you will) so I didn't know knights that well but their fics made me so interested in them particularly izuleo and. well. here we are.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

everything they've been through together. they have such an interesting relationship that is shaped by their past experiences and while their past wasn't always nice I don't think they'd change it because it made them who they are today and they're both at a point where they're proud of who they are and how far they've come. also I like when they r mentally ill together in second year

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

they would not fucking be romantic!!!!! they're both aro idc (aroace leo aro gay izumi if you're curious on my hcs) I wrote something on this a while back when I was talking to ashe about how they're secret fourth thing. anyway regardless of aromanticness I don't think either of them would even want a romantic relationship, at least not yet.

umm I literally don't even know how to put this into words but like. the fact they've grown from someone they hate/want dead (aki to angel) or someone they couldn't care less about (angel to aki) to caring so much about the others life in a world where you can't afford to care about other people. aki who hates devils learning to love someone. angel who's apathetic towards everything having someone else he'd go out of his way to protect. aki losing part of his life to save a devil. angel expressing he wants aki to live. telling aki to run. im so fine and okay.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

its insane how many people just forget? or choose to ignore?? the fact that they can't touch as if that's not something that's so interesting about their relationship lmao

also they would NEVER have a romantic relationship. I don't even mean this in an aro sense like I do with a lot of my ships but I mean that even if they did both have mutual romantic feelings they wouldn't do anything with it. I had a post about this but I can't find it because tumblr hates me. personally I don't believe whatever they had going on was romantic from angels side (it could have been eventually but it was over too soon for them) but it was moreso caring about and having someone care about them in a way that angel hadn't experienced since his lover and family potentially centuries ago and aki was only just learning to have again. okay this is getting too long tldr they would not fucking be romantic

1. Who would you, personally, say, is actually the most boring unit? Because for me, it's honestly a three-way tie between Knights, fine, and Alkaloid, oops.

2. Okay, this one isn't a question, but I want to share my thoughts on this: I don't see how people find Rei all "handsome" and stuff?? To me, he's honestly ugly. There's nothing about him that screams "attractive."... The same could be said about a few other characters too - take Ibara, for example?! Like, this isn't me hating on characters with glasses because characters with glasses can be pretty, I mean, hey, I absolutely love and adore Keito and Makoto (Tsumugi is okay, in my opinion. I have no thoughts on him due to the fact that I don't really pay attention to him.) Anyways, yeah, your thoughts on how so many people think the same way of Rei?

it's okay~! i love reading lots of words anyways, haha. now, as for those questions...

i don't think that there's a "most boring" unit as it's all subjective. though, i kind of agree with knights. their whole thing is being a "knight in shining armor" for their fans, which i think is a little eh? i'm not exactly a fan of that. also, i'm not really a big fan of their music. where's that meme that goes, "knights in the recording studio be like: this sounds boring as fuck, drop it" with leo and tsukasa's faces slapped onto it. compared to the other two you've mentioned, fine and alkaloid have something more going on with them, at least. i just think that the heavenly orchestra description for fine sounds so cool! also, two words: rainbow circus. and no lie, alkaloid is way more interesting than knights, imo. soldiers piercing through your heart! i love their whole suits of cards theme as well as how each of those suit the members too. and their soldier motif is just so, so good. they're soldiers made by the es and made to fight for them, but alkaloid will fight against es if needed because soldiers are meant to protect the weak. i'm not an alkaloidP, i swear! but yeah, to me knights is just kind of eh.

once again, you are so, so right!! i never understood why people find rei handsome. i mean, if that's what you're into, then okay... but also, why? i would bet that most people who find rei handsome either read twilight or read vampire fanfictions and never grew out of it. the fangs, understandable. i'm something of a fang enjoyer myself! but the mullet? erm, no thank you. (also i just prefer eichi over rei in general lol). rei is like the pikachu of enstars. in a sense that, it's a basic bitch answer. you're either a fan who's been here since the es1 days or you just got here. i love me some bespectacled men though. when i started this game, i took one good look at keito and said, "yeah, i'm into that". i think ibara is made to be a sexy character, as he is in the sexy unit. i kind of understand where the ibaraPs are coming from.
