ahhhh, bread my beloved… heart eyes… so many good kinds of bread…

1. this one restaurant in boston has these amazing homemade yeast rolls (i think that’s what they were) that they serve warm in a skillet topped with sea salt and if i remember right they give you honey butter with them. they are INCREDIBLE… possibly the best bread of life

2. love a good croissant. you really can’t go wrong with a croissant, especially warm/toasted. flaky and buttery and amazing. does this count as a bread? and then sometimes they have fillings, also amazing. the classic chocolate croissant… almond… nutella…

3. i love a good sourdough. so tasty! great for sandwiches and by itself. honestly i would love to learn how to bake bread but i am so scared of the whole… starter experience? like? what if i fuck it up and the yeasts don’t love me? but i’d love to make a sourdough loaf one day, and you can do such pretty scoring (?) on the top in pretty designs. love it

4. also love a good focaccia… that one episode of Salt Fat Acid Heat where samin nosrat goes to italy and learns how to make focaccia changed me as a person (just as an aside, can i just mention i love her)

5. last but never least… the little bread that you get at restaurants with the little pats of butter… somehow the restaurant salted butter just hits different on that bread… especially when it’s warmed… i’ve even gotten kerrygold butter to try to recreate the experience at home and it’s just Not The Same somehow…

None of my OCs have allergies, though that might be a fun thing to add at some point. Just not too strong ones, because there is no equipment to help them 😅 I'd probably have to keep it from "eating it makes them sick" for medical probability of survival.

Fun fact: I decided absolutely randomly that Merridy loves sheep cheese, because eh, why not, and I needed something for a chapter. Weeks later, I realized that d'oh, she grew up on a fucking sheep farm. I swear, that moment she looked at me like "no shit."

And since it's favs, that absolutely includes Damien and Riordan.

Damien likes stuff made from local ingredients of the town he grew up in. It's what he could get his hands on, and what he learned cooking with. He'll experiment, but that's what he always comes back to.

Riordan would just list "everything he cooks--and my mama's pie," lol.

It’s way past their breadtime when every other trooper is asleep, and things were starting to get toasty so they move into Rex’s office. Dogma loves it when Rex kneads him. Rex always thinks Dogma deserves butter and want to grow mold together. Maybe Rex buys Dogma flours?? Dogma says it’s not necessary but Rex says it’s the yeast he can do. 🍞🥖🍞🥖🍞
