Zayne has been at the hospital for nearly twelve hours now, and he’s exhausted. He's had to perform three surgeries in a row, each taking almost four hours each. He barely had time to rest or to even eat, and so he’s both worn down and starving. He's chewing on a piece of beef jerky now, the dried, salty meat barely doing anything to soothe his aching stomach, but proving needed protein after being on his feet for hours on end.
Greyson is sitting across his desk from him, his face planted directly on top of its surface. He'd been with Zayne nearly the entire time, backing him up as his extra set of hands.
“We’re finally done,” Greyson says. Zayne glances down at him, munching down on another slice of jerky. He really wants sweets right now, but he knows he needs the protein. Besides, he’d run out of his chocolates throughout the shift; he’d sneak a handful of chocolates in between surgeries, needing some kind of pick me up. “Finally…”
He doesn't say anything in response to Greyson when his phone vibrates. With one hand, he pulls it from his pocket, holding it up to see the screen. Ah, Evie had texted him. He opens the messages, reading them over:
Evie, Holder of My Heart💙💙💙: hhhheeeyyyyy! you outta your last surgery yet?
Me: Yes, dear. Thank you for checking in. I'll be heading home soon.
Evie, Holder of My Heart💙💙💙: okie :3
He can't help but smile at the screen. He always loves to see the contact name she’d put in herself the time she’d stolen his phone. Originally, it had just been her name, but she didn't like that. So she had snatched his phone away and changed it to the one above. He finds it adorable, so he has yet to change it, if he ever will. He recalls the conversation they'd had when she had first changed it:
“‘Evie, Holder of My Heart’?” Zayne read aloud, quirking a single eyebrow in her direction. She was sitting across from him on the same couch, her calves bent under her, her hands in her lap. She grinned at him cutely.
“Well of course,” she said, her eyes twinkling. “You're a heart doctor, right?”
His eyebrow raised further, not following her line of thought. “Right.”
“You're always holding other people’s hearts,” she said pointedly, leaning closer to him. She leaned until their faces were a few inches apart, making his breath catch. “You need someone to hold yours.”
That made his mind go blank, his cheeks filling with heat. Flower petals fluttered in his gut, and he found himself sputtering with surprise. How does she always catch him by surprise? No one else ever can. “Ah,” he said, dumbly.
Her grin widened, and she pressed her lips to the corner of his, rubbing her thumb and forefinger against the shell of his surely red ear. Her laughter filled the air, only making him feel hotter.
Normally, Evie is horrible about remembering to text, but she had kept in mind the estimated time his final surgery would be finished. She’s terribly forgetful, so the fact she’d taken the time to remember when he got off warms his heart to no end. He smiles at his phone lightly, slowly chewing on the beef jerky in his mouth.
Greyson laughs lightly. “Get a text from Eve?” he asks teasingly. Zayne throws him a half-hearted glare and pushes up from his seat once he's finished his jerky. “Oh come on, Doctor Zayne, no need to get grumpy!”
“I am not grumpy,” Zayne replies coolly. “I am simply leaving for the day. I suggest you do the same. Goodbye, Doctor Greyson.”
As he walks towards the door to his office, he takes just a moment to slip out of his doctor’s coat. He hangs it on a hook situated behind the door, and then steps outside. He heads for the lobby, where Yvonne is staring out of the front doors curiously.
She looks across at him as he approaches, a bright smile lighting up her face. “I think your ride is here, Doctor Zayne,” she says, pointing towards the glass doors. Zayne pauses, his brows furrowing. Of course it is, he drives himself. But when he follows her pointed finger, she spots a familiar, black motorcycle parked out front, with a familiar woman leaning against it, waiting patiently. His eyes widen, and he has to tighten his jaws to keep his mouth from dropping open.
No… that can't be her.
But as he excuses himself, walking closer to the doors, it certainly is.
Evie is waiting for him with her motorcycle, dressed in a leather jacket and black pants. She leaned against it heavily, arms crossed over her chest. She’s tapping a foot idly, looking up at the sky as if she’s watching the clouds pass overhead with all the focus in the world. Her helmet is resting on the back of the cycle, bumped and roughed up. Her long hair falls around her shoulders, holding a slight wave after being stuffed in the helmet for so long. Her jacket has skid marks on it from her times falling off of her cycle in situations where she had to face Wanderers, getting knocked off when one or two would get too close.
Some of Zayne's coworkers have stopped to gawk at the sleek looking motorcycle and its rough and tough looking owner. She looks down when she sees him pushing out of the hospital, her eyes brightening at the sight of him. She pushes up straight, waving at him excitedly, innocently. As if she isn't causing a scene right now.
“Doctor Zayne!” she says brightly. His coworkers turn to look at the flustered doctor. They never would have thought a biker would be here to pick him up. He's always seemed so tight and pristine. Who would have thought he’d break that pristineness for a biker? “I'm here to pick you up! I haven't seen you in hours!”
He slowly approaches her, keeping his head high despite the heat gathering in his face and gut. He’s not embarrassed per say- he would never be embarrassed of Evie. But he is, however, highly flustered by the fact she’s come to pick him up. Oh, and look- she brought him flowers. His shoulders hunch as he lowers her head when she tugs on his tie, obediently bringing his face to be leveled with hers. She presses a kiss to his cheek, momentarily wrapping her arms around his neck to embrace him.
“I missed you,” she whispers into his ear. It burns as her hot breath brushes against it.
“I missed you, too,” he says, remembering how to speak. She presses another kiss to his cheek, and then pulls back with a cheeky grin.
“I bought you some sweets,” she says. She pulls the seat of her motorcycle up, revealing the compartment underneath. There are two boxes of his favorite chocolates, and a box of macarons he hasn't tried yet. His heart melts all over for her, and he reaches out to grab one. She snorts and smacks his hand away. “I already texted Greyson. He said you've been eating sweets all day. You can have some tomorrow.”
“That traitor,” Zayne says snidely. She giggles, the sound like beautiful bells to his ears. “Why were you texting him?”
“To check on you,” she replies sweetly. She closes the seat once more, and swings her leg over the side of it. “You lock in on busy days like this, so I try not to bother you. But Greyson is my eye on the inside- he always responds when he can.”
“I feel as if I have two traitors now,” Zayne remarks. He hesitates when she pats the spot behind her- while he appreciates this, his car is still here, and she can be a little… rough when driving. She looks up at him through wide, sparkling eyes, and he quickly loses his internal battle. He lets out a sigh, handing her her helmet before he sits behind her. He places his hands on her hips, leaning forward until his chest rests on her back. He can feel the hard muscle through her shirt and skin, honed from her training and battles with Wanderers. Just feeling them makes him flush all over again, and he buries his face in her hair to hide it from any passerby. He’s an esteemed doctor, dammit. He doesn't need to be blushing like a little school boy.
But he can't help the flush on his face. He can feel the dips of her curves and the tough sinew of her muscles. She could flip him over her head with no problem, and probably straddle him, too. The thought of it has the flower petals in his guts blowing around like a blizzard, making him squirm a little.
“Don't be so grumpy, Doctor Zayne,” she says, clicking her tongue. She reaches around herself, placing the helmet over his head. “And wear this. You're the passenger.”
“What about you?” he asks, his voice muffled through the plastic and glass. She hums thoughtfully, flicking the motorcycle on. He can feel the way her muscles stretch as she kicks the motorcycle to life, her leg moving to hook on the side of it.
“I'll be fine,” she says lightly. “Now hold on tight. We’ve got a movie to catch!”
“Wait- we do-?”
Before he can even finish, they're already pelting down the street, dust kicked up behind them as the wheels screech against pavement. He holds onto her tighter, eyes closing instinctively.
She really had planned this out.
And he has to admit it- he doesn't mind it one bit.

part 2
kinktober/flufftober masterlist
—————
you’d been guided into the empty room at the doctors office by the bored receptionist, her muttering something about the doctor joining you soon, and to take a seat.
it had been a few minutes since then, you were sat carefully on one of the patients chairs, grasping nervously at the cross hanging between your breasts. the ticking of the clock only amplified your nerves, leg bouncing as you stared at the door, imaging all the ways this appointment could go wrong.
you jumped when the door opened, doctor lupin walked in, smiling widely as he shut and locked the door behind him.
“hello, it’s lovely to see you again, y/n,” he sat down at his chair, not taking his eyes off of you.
you nodded along, not trusting your voice just yet, nails now digging into your bare thighs, skirt shifting higher up your legs.
“now, i was told that you’d been having some female problems, could you tell me more about that?”
avoiding eye contact, you chewed on you lip before attempting to explain your embarrassing situation, “i- um, i’ve been having some- some weird feelings, y’know uh, down there,” you mumbled.
“okay, how long has this been going on for, hm?”
“a few weeks, maybe. it’s- it’s on and off though, not all the time,” what you refused to mention, was that whenever you were experiencing these feelings, was when you were thinking about your hot new doctor.
“yeah? so around the time that i saw you last? why didn’t you mention anything then, sweetheart? it seems to be bothering you an awful lot,”
oh my gosh, this was the most mortifying moment of your life. how on earth were you supposed to tell him that the weird sensations only started happening since you met him.
you’d had to change doctors after you moved house, still living at home with your parents, and had met dr lupin for a standard checkup. you’d instantly become a stuttering mess- much like you were now- at how attractive he was.
you weren’t sure how to answer his question, cheeks flaming, and almost sighed in relief when he clearly pitied you enough to ask something different.
“do you think you could describe what the weird feelings are like, honey? are they painful?” he asks, face twisted in concern.
“no they don’t hurt, it’s like- tingly, i think. feels throbby and uncomfortable. it um-,” you shifted in your seat, eyes locked on your mary-jane clad feet.
“it’s okay, take your time,”
“it makes me pee a little, i keep having to change my- my underwear,” you eyes began to sting in humiliation, knowing that if your parents found out that you’d been wetting yourself at the age of 18, they’d never speak to you again.
“sh, sh there’s nothing to be embarrassed about. are you sure it’s pee? or is it thicker, maybe a clearish-white?”
“yeah, it’s just like that, and it’s sticky too,”
“i think i know the problem, y/n. it’s easily treated, but you’ll need regular treatments with me to keep it contained, okay?” he wheeled his chair closer to his desk, typing something in his computer, nodding when you meekly said okay.
you were beyond relieved that you were going to be okay, that you wouldn’t have to confess your sins to the priest and your parents, that you could be cured by your nice doctor.
“alright, i need you to fully undress, get into this gown and lay down on the bed for me, then we can start the first session,” he gave you no room for arguments, handing you a pale blue hospital gown and turning back to his computer.
you shuffled over to the bed, slowly undressing and blanching at the thought of him seeing you borderline naked. your family were very christian and at a young age you had promised to never ruin yourself, especially not before marriage. you’d never been allowed any boyfriends growing up, always heavily punished if you’d been caught even looking at a boy for too long.
you’d since learnt your lesson, only having girl friends, steering clear of anyone outside of the church and keeping your head down in public. the idea that dr lupin would be seeing you down there, was enough to bring you close to tears.
you peered over your shoulder periodically, nervous that he’d turn around and catch a peep of your bare skin.
slipping into the gown, you climbed onto the bed, laying back as you called out to him that you were ready.
you watched dr lupin set up, snapping on his gloves and sanitising various terrifying looking equipment on his metal table.
“just need you to pop your feet in the stirrups, lovely girl,”
you carefully did as he said, legs spread wide and feeling oh so vulnerable, but terribly scared of disappointing him. you hated it, but a small part of you was loving the way his hands gripped your ankles when he strapped you in, murmuring reassurances about it being for everyone’s safety, thumb stroking along your delicate skin.
eventually, he stood between your legs, blue gloved hands hovering above your private parts, “is it okay if i start? i’ll need to touch you.”
you nodded your consent, breath hitching as he made contact with your very inner thigh, fingertips sliding closer to where the problem originated, his eyes never leaving the area.
“are you having those feelings now? you’re all wet, love,”
a tear finally slipped free, cooling your burning cheeks as you turned your head away, shame consuming you.
“oh baby, it’s okay, i’m gonna help you, you want me to make you feel better?”
you nodded, finally looking up at him with salty tears glittering in your pretty eyes, wanting nothing more than this horrible feeling to go away. you wanted dr lupin to make you all better.
his digits glide over your pussy, your warm slick coating them. you whimper when he hits your sensitive clit, legs twitching in response. the taste of iron coated your tongue, biting down as a pathetic effort to try and keep quiet, mindful of other patients in the waiting room just down the hall.
he slowly started circling it, free hand going to press at your throbbing hole, “fuck, you really aren’t very well, are you poppet? s’alright, i have just the thing to make you feel good again, it’ll fix you right up,”
you cried out when a finger entered you, tight walls spasming around the foreign object. sobbing and shaking, so overcome with pleasure with him working you up to your fast approaching orgasm. you let out a sharp gasp, confused as to what was happening to your body. you were losing control of your movements, and you began to worry that you were being possessed by a demon.
those thoughts were cleared from your mind when you came with a squeal, thighs closing around his hands in an effort to get the overwhelming pleasure to stop. you were astounded that something medical could feel so amazing, or even that it was possible to feel like this at all. you felt very lucky that you had such a good doctor, even if he made you feel flustered.
already, the feeling deep in your belly was starting to be satiated, but you really hoped that there would be more treatment today, as it still lingered and you desperately needed to feel that bliss again.
when he pulled his fingers away, he could see the white substance ringed around them, arousal fluid still connecting your heat to him in strings. his erection was pulsing against his trousers, dampening the fabric there as he tried to hold back from corrupting you too much.
oh well, too late now.
he whispered praises to you, rubbing your thighs and smearing your cum all over them as he tried to calm you down, smiling softly when you reopened your eyes.
“that was intense, huh? you did so well for me, just need one more from you, then you’re all done for today. i know, it’s a lot, but it’s really important that we fully complete the treatment, especially seeing as you shook so much,”
you nodded hazily, head much too clouded in pleasure to be able to take in what he was saying. you’d never felt that good in your life, and you supposed that it was a good thing that you’d gone to the doctors first instead of the priest, feeling much better already.
still so caught up in your mind, you didn’t pay any attention to what dr lupin was doing, not noticing him snapping off his gloves before unbuckling his belt and pulling out his reddened cock.
“this piece of equipment is really gonna make a lot of difference in your recovery,” he said, rubbing his tip along your puffy entrance, groaning quietly when it caught, slipping inside slightly.
you moaned loudly when he finally pushed in, eyes rolling to the back of your head at the mixture of pleasure and pain.
dr lupin had to hold still for a moment, trying to hold back from giving you a creampie already at the sight of your virgin blood staining his cock, pearly white and crimson mixing to create a rosy pink that coated him.
checking that you were doing okay, he pulled out until only his tip was left inside of you. fingers grasping at your waist, hard enough that he knew it would leave plum coloured bruising, remus gave you no warning before he began to pound into you, letting out guttural groans as your back arched off the bed.
the clinical paper ripped beneath you, his hips slapping against you, the two of you moaned, fully giving up on staying quiet, getting lost in the feel of each other.
his rough hands grabbed at your ass, tugging you towards him with each thrust, sweat collecting along his hairline. his eyes switched between looking at your face and your pussy, tears still spilling over with a heated face, pussy covered in your shared fluids, throbbing around him.
feeling your high building up again, he held back his own, wanting to finally release together, he lifted a hand off of your ass, circling steadily over your little button to push you over the edge.
the band coiling inside of you finally snapped, and you whimpered as you squirmed around, body shaking uncontrollably. your nails dug into the sides of the bed, trying to hold on as he worked you through your orgasm, groaning out as he too let go.
you felt his hot cum spurting inside of you, moaning at the new feeling, praying internally that this would never end. your previously arched back fell down as your orgasm ended, aftershocks still wracking your body. you were happy that he had gotten to feel this good too, even if you didn’t understand what that fluid was, or why he’d felt pleasure as well.
breathless, his body involuntarily folded itself over in exhaustion, slumping down onto yours. he tried to catch his breath, feeling your chest expand and collapse underneath his face, heart beating wildly.
he slid he cock out of you, and you were just about lucid enough to notice this time that the piece of equipment was attached to his body. you thought it was quite handy to have something so useful joined onto him, wondering if that was a part of the training to become a doctor.
hot cum poured out of your abused hole, trailing down onto the ripped up clinical paper, soaking the already damp material. remus pulled it out from under you, binning it before grabbing a couple of baby wipes from a nearby drawer.
“good girl, did amazing for me, baby. y’might just be my best patient,”
he wiped you down, soothing you when you jolted from the cold feeling of the wipes, unstrapping your ankles, then guiding you into slowly standing and redressing, turning away when necessary but occasionally peering over his shoulder to catch glimpses of your pretty body.
“i think we’ll book you in for another session, let’s say two days from now? is 6:00pm alright with you?” he asked when you were ready to leave.
you quickly agreed, already excited for the next appointment. he helped you out to the car park where your parents were already waiting for you, ignoring the dirty look the receptionist gave the two of you, patiently holding you up as you stumbled along, before subtly patting at your bum, telling you that he can’t wait to see you again.

The Greatest Gift

Pairing: Azriel x f!reader
Summary: Being introduced to a partner's family is always nerve-wracking, especially when Azriel has never talked much about his mother and you don't know what to expect.
Warnings: pregnant reader, barely edited, maybe rushed ending?
Word count: 3.7k
A/N: so sorry for being late in posting this one! Literally wrote the last part today and edited quite quickly so I could post it. Hope you'll enjoy it anyway!
Main Masterlist | Week Masterlist | Azriel Masterlist | AO3
@sjmxreaderweek
“Stop fussing. You look lovely.”
You looked at your reflection in the mirror for the hundredth time and frowned. You could see why Az thought that, but there was still something that felt… off. You just couldn't put your finger on what it was.
“Something's missing,” you murmured to yourself, smoothing out non-existent creases on your dress. You had picked your most beautiful one—a nice summer dress that flowed to your feet and hugged your body perfectly. Just tight enough to reveal the small bump that was beginning to show.
Your hair was styled in a low bun at the nape of your neck—classy and delicate, but not too formal. You didn't want to come off as too concerned with appearances. For that same reason, you had kept your makeup minimal and natural.
Maybe that was it. Maybe you should have done more. It wasn’t too late, you could still—
“Y/N.”
Azriel came up behind you, his arms sliding around your waist as he pressed a kiss to your neck. “There's no need to be so nervous, my love.”
Your eyes met in the mirror, but, unlike every other time, his soft smile did little to calm you.
“I just don't want to make a bad first impression,” you murmured. You tasted blood on your tongue and realized you were chewing on your inner cheek again. You stopped immediately.
“And you won't.” His hands came to rest on your hips as you both looked at the reflection. “Look at you. You're gorgeous, Y/N.”
You were beautiful—you could admit that much. But you didn't feel perfect, and that's what you were aiming for.
Turning around to face Azriel, you placed your hands on his broad chest, feeling his steady heartbeat beneath your palms. He had also dressed up nicely, and you knew he had done it for you, to help you feel more at ease. He didn't have to, after all. It was his mother you were about to have lunch with. He didn't have to impress anyone.
“I don't want to disappoint her.” You looked into the depths of those beautiful hazel eyes. “She's your mom.”
“And you're my mate, who's also pregnant with my child,” he answered, his hands now resting on your belly. “You have nothing to worry about. She's going to love you. Trust me.”
Hearing the certainty in his voice, you finally relaxed. You closed your eyes and rested your forehead against his, breathing in his familiar scent.
Despite having been mated for a few years—and all the decades of friendship first and being in love later—you had never met Rosalind. Every time he visited her, after Winter Solstice and for both their birthdays, you never accompanied him. He had never asked you to, and you had never pushed him about it. You knew how he felt about his mother, how he wanted to keep her sheltered from a cruel world that had already taken so much from her.
She's a kind soul, he always said. You didn't doubt it.
That's why you had been so surprised when he had come home after his last visit and told you he would like you to meet his mother.
And here you were now.
Azriel kissed your forehead before pulling back. “You're ready to go, baby?”
You nodded, turning to take one last look in the mirror. And that's when you realized what was missing.
“Wait! Hold on…” You opened the top drawer of the dresser and rummaged through it until you found what you were looking for. “Aha!” you exclaimed triumphantly, holding a little necklace between your fingers.
The jewelry itself wasn't anything special—a thin chain with a small star-shaped pendant—but it held a symbolic meaning: it was one of the first gifts you had ever received from Azriel, back when you were nothing more than friends, and every time you wore it, things went well. It might be just superstition, but it quickly became your good luck charm. That's why it was reserved for special occasions such as this one.
“Your lucky necklace?” Azriel took it as you offered it and stepped behind you to put it around your neck. “I thought we were meeting my mother, not going on some kind of adventure.”
You whirled, worried that your nervousness was starting to annoy him. Instead you found him with an amused smile on his lips, looking down at you with a softness that made your heart flutter.
“Y/N, my love.” He cupped your cheeks, his voice low and gentle. “All that matters to me is that you're comfortable. We can reschedule, if you want.”
You shook your head and a small smile appeared on your face. “No,” you said firmly. “I want to meet her. I'm just a bit nervous.”
When he arched a brow, you chuckled. “Okay, maybe more than a bit.”
Azriel leaned in to brush a kiss across your lips. “I know. But I can already tell you she's going to adore you. Trust me. Everyone does.”
Your smile grew, and with one last look at your reflection, you finally stepped back. “Alright. I just need to grab the pastries and we can go.”
~~~~~~
Azriel winnowed you to the outskirts of a little village. Though the street was quiet, peppered only by a few houses, you could hear children laughing and screaming playfully in the distance.
The manor in front of you—Rosehall, Azriel had called it—was smaller than anticipated, with colorful flowers in every window.
You smiled at the sight and let Azriel guide you to the red-painted door.
When he didn't knock, you looked up at him and found his eyes already on you.
“What?” you asked, brows furrowed.
“You're doing it again.” His hand came up to cup your face. “Stop biting your cheek, love. It'll bleed.”
“I didn't even realize I was— sorry.” With a sigh, you cleared your mind of the nervousness that was starting to rise again. Then you gestured toward the door. “Shall we?”
Azriel nodded, and his hand fell away from your cheek to knock on the red wood. It took only a few seconds for the door to open, revealing a smiling Illyrian female.
Her hair was the same black as her son's, just like her hazel eyes—both common Illyrians traits. But you knew Azriel's face well enough to notice they shared the shape of the nose, the curve of the mouth, the slightly upward tilt of the eyes. He wasn't the spitting image of her, but no one could have mistaken them for anything other than mother and son.
“Oh, my boy! It's so nice to see you again so soon!” Rosalind hugged her son, who could embrace her with only one arm, the other one holding the wicker basket with home-baked pastries.
“Hi, mom,” he replied, his tone as soft as the one he usually reserved for you. She smiled as he leaned down to place a kiss on the crown of her head. She was several inches shorter than him, just like you.
Rosalind then turned to face you, and a second later her arms were around you. “It's such a pleasure to finally meet you.”
You were so stunned by the sudden display of affection that it took you a moment to return the gesture, and another one to find the words. “The pleasure is all mine.”
When you pulled back, Rosalind’s smile was even brighter than before, and it was enough to make you forget any semblance of anxiety.
“Come in. Come, dears,” she said, stepping aside. “Come inside. Let me take a good look at you, Y/N.”
Azriel placed a gentle hand on your lower back to set you walking, and as you passed by his mother, you caught a glimpse of the wings Rosalind kept tucked behind her back. Twin long scars ran down both of them—clipped. A wave of horror coiled in your gut, and you had to swallow to keep your composure.
“Are you alright?” Azriel whispered close to your ear. Ever the observant mate.
You gave him a nod, then quickly took the basket from him just to have something else to occupy your mind. When his mother closed the door and guided you to the sitting room, you offered it to her with a smile. “I made these for you, since it was your birthday last week. It's pastries.”
Rosalind took it, lifting the lid to peek at what was inside. Her eyes gleamed as she looked up again, a bright smile on her lips. “You're too sweet, darling. You didn't have to. Thank you.”
Despite having just met her, you could already see why Azriel always said she was a kind soul. If Rosalind had been your mother, you would want to protect her from such a world too.
The Illyrian female handed the basket to her son, instructing him to take it to the kitchen and if he could please start setting the table. Azriel brushed a kiss to your hair, then disappeared down the hallway.
His mother turned to you again.
“Oh, Azriel said you were beautiful, but…” Her hands hovered over your baby bump, but she didn't touch it. “You're glowing, Y/N.”
You smiled back at her. “Thank you. Az never told me much about you… I'm glad I finally met you.”
Rosalind shook her head. “Of course he didn't,” she said with a soft laugh. “He thinks even talking about me will put me in danger.”
You couldn't help but chuckle with her. You were very aware of Azriel's overprotectiveness. It had only grown since you got pregnant.
“It's because he loves you,” you offered gently.
“Oh, I never doubted that.” Rosalind gestured for you to sit on the plush couch, then followed to settle beside you.
The sitting room was large and inviting, with sand-colored rugs layered across the wooden floor and shelves filled with old books and trinkets. Only a few paintings hung on the wall, and your gaze lingered on them as you leaned back against the deep red cushions of the couch.
“But I think he loves you more.”
You turned to look at Rosalind, opening your mouth to protest that she couldn't compare the two things. But she leaned in as if to reveal a secret, a smile playing on her lips.
“He always talks about you,” she murmured.
Your lips curled. “He does?”
Rosalind nodded. “Oh, yes. He can go on for hours about you.”
Your eyes darted to the hallway, at the end of which you'd caught a glimpse of the dining room as Azriel had walked away to follow his mother's instructions. Now you could hear the faint rustle of dishes being arranged on the table.
“He'd done it since he met you, you know,” his mother went on. “The first time he told me about you, he said you were the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen. And that you were so nice and sweet, he hoped you'd fall in love with him one day.”
Your smile grew. Azriel, usually so reserved and quiet, had been talking to his mother about you since the beginning. That shouldn't have surprised you—you'd always been close, after all—but the things he'd told her… You never thought he'd so open about it from the very start, even with his own mother. Maybe you'd just assumed that since he didn't talk to you about her, he wouldn't talk to her about you.
As if on cue, Azriel appeared in the doorway. “The table's ready,” he announced.bhh
His eyes darted between you and his mother, and he arched a brow when twin complicit smiles bloomed on your faces.
Rosalind rose to her feet, wings shifting awkwardly behind her. “Well, I should go check on the food,” she announced. “It's probably ready, or it’ll be soon. So you can start getting comfortable at the table.”
On her way out, she placed a hand on Azriel's arm. “Thank you, dear,” she said with a smile before continuing down the hallway.
Azriel watched her go, then turned to you with a questioning look in his hazel eyes. “Did I miss something?”
Walking up to him, you tried to suppress your smile but failed. Biting your lip was the only way. “Did you really spend hours telling your mom about me?”
He stilled, and you noticed the tips of his ears turning a faint shade of red. For a moment, he didn't meet your eyes.
“She told you about that, I see.”
Mother above, he was adorable when he got flustered.
“She did,” you grinned, leaving the room with him following close behind. You glanced at him over your shoulder. “She also said you hoped I'd fall in love with you from the very beginning.”
Azriel's ears were now completely flushed. But his lips quirked up at the corners as he said, “Of course I did. You were perfect.”
You reached the dining room—smaller than the sitting room, yet just as cozy. Cushioned chairs suited for Illyrians surrounded the table, and sunlight poured in through a large window.
But before you could turn to face Azriel and answer, his arms were already around you, pulling you back against his chest.
“I was perfect?” you repeated as you turned your head back to smile at him.
“Mhm,” he hummed, brushing his lips against yours. “You always have been.”
His broad hands slid down to rest on your small bump.
“And now you're even more perfect,” he murmured.
You finally turned around in his arms and looped yours around his neck. “That's also thanks to you, you know,” you replied with a smile.
His hands found your hips and he pulled you flush against him. "Some days I have to remind myself that,” he admitted quietly. “That there’s a wonderful new life inside of you. And I helped create it.”
He didn’t have to say more. You knew why he needed the reminder—that someone like him could create something so beautiful. After everything he had been through and he had done, he had convinced himself he would never be good enough to create such a miracle. And now he was being proven wrong.
“You did,” you replied, nails gently scratching the nape of his neck. “And this wonderful life will become a wonderful baby. Our baby. And you will be a wonderful father.”
His eyes locked with yours, and slowly, another smile appeared on his face. “Our baby,” he repeated.
Then leaned down, capturing your lips in a tender kiss—a silent thanks you, a testament to the love you shared. And even after you broke apart, the feel of his lips on yours lingered like the last warmth of the sun before it sets.
The delicious smell of roasted lamb pervaded the room, and followed by the quiet rustle of dishes and pans that announced Rosalind's entrance.
She glanced at the two of you still standing there, a warm smile curving her lips as she placed the serving plate in the center of the table, where Azriel had left space for it.
Biting the inside of your cheek, you took a small step back from him.
Even after your chat with Rosalind, being caught kissing her son felt oddly awkward. You weren't quite sure why—you were mated to him and pregnant with his child, after all. And Rosalind didn’t even seem bothered by it.
She gestured toward the table and the chairs. “Come sit, dears,” she encouraged. “We don’t want it to get cold, now do we?”
Azriel placed a hand on your lower back and gently guided you to a chair, pulling it out for you. As you sat, he leaned down to murmur in your ear, “Your cheek, my love.”
He was already moving to sit next to you before you even glanced at him.
You offered him a grateful smile, then helped Rosalind serve the food, realizing only then what she had cooked.
Roasted lamb. Baked potatoes. The same blend of herbs you always used—flavors that bloomed across your tongue at the first bite.
“This is delicious,” you said, smiling. “And it's one of my favorites, too.” With a look toward Azriel, you added, “What a nice coincidence.”
“Yes,” he replied, far too casually. “A lucky coincidence.”
His mother chuckled and you playfully rolled your eyes at him.
“I wanted to make a good impression,” Rosalind explained. “It's not every day I get to meet my son's mate.”
At least you weren't the only one who'd been worried about first impressions.
You turned back to her with a smile. “It's not every day I get to my mate's mother,” you replied. You nodded toward the basket of pastries you'd made, now waiting on the sideboard, ready for dessert. “I asked him too, for the pastries. I wanted to get you a real present, but.. I've never been very good with gifts.”
Azriel had told you not to worry, that you could show up empty-handed and his mom wouldn't mind. But it hadn't felt like enough, yet you always struggled to find the right gift for your friends, so how were you supposed to pick one for your mate’s mother? So you'd asked him what she liked best and baked it yourself.
Rosalind slowly set her fork down and reached across the table to take your hand. She gave it a gentle squeeze.
“Don't worry, dear. I have everything I need here.” Her smile was soft, reassuring. “And you've already given me the greatest gift I could ask for.”
At your confused frown, she gave your hand another squeeze. “You make my son happy,” she explained. “It's all I ever wanted.”
Your heart swelled at her words. “Don't worry,” you assured her. “That's all I want too.”
Your gaze drifted to Azriel. His eyes were already on you, love shining in their hazel depths. Beneath the table, his hand came to rest on your knee.
“I told you both you’d like each other,” he said softly, glancing between you and his mother. “You were both nervous for nothing.”
Picking up your fork again, you replied, “That's because you never introduced us before, Az.”
He looked like he was about to protest, but then he sighed instead. “Yes, that's fair,” he conceded. “Maybe I should have.”
“Oh, it's alright,” Rosalind chimed in. “We're all here now and that's what matters.”
You nodded, and while you and Azriel returned to your delicious meal, Rosalind fell silent, a thoughtful expression replacing the smile she often wore.
After a moment, she spoke again.
“Can I ask you something?” she said, looking first at her son, then at you. “A favor, if it’s not too much trouble.”
You nodded without hesitation. “Yes, of course.”
Azriel looked curious now, though he remained silent. Maybe he hadn’t expected her to ask anything, either.
Rosalind hesitated for a second before continuing. “When the baby arrives… could you visit me more often?” She paused, then quickly added, “Or maybe I could visit you? But I’d like to be a part of the baby's life and watch them grow.”
You blinked, stunned by the suddenness of the request. Of course you wanted her to be involved, to know her grandchild and be part of this growing family.
But the emotion behind her words caught you off guard, stealing whatever answer you might’ve given.
Before you could find your voice, Rosalind turned to Azriel.
A new vulnerability shone her eyes—his eyes. A mix of sadness and tenderness in equal parts, as though she were remembering something from their past.
“I didn't get to be the mother you needed when it mattered most,” she said, her voice trembling slightly. Still, she went on. “So let me try to make it up by being the grandmother your child deserves.”
All you could do was watch, your heart straining, as Azriel’s throat bobbed once.
“You were—” He stopped, shook his head, then tried again. “You are the best mother I could ask for, mom.”
They shared a heartfelt smile, and for a moment, you felt like an intruder on a private, sacred moment.
“Of course we can visit more often,” he said gently. “Or you can finally come to Velaris, if you'd prefer. Rhys and Cassian would be happy to see you again.”
Rosalind's eyes lit up, her smile blooming bright. A mother, happy to reunite with her son's world. With his chosen family, and the new life he was building.
You watched her, and wondered—would you wear that same expression when your baby arrived? That same fierce, unwavering love that would never make your child doubt they were wanted and adored.
You hoped you did.
You knew you would.
Azriel already had that look. He'd had it since the moment you told him you were pregnant.
“I'd love to see them again,” Rosalind said. “It's been too many centuries. And maybe…” She chuckled softly, “it's about time I visited Velaris.”
A flicker of uncertainty sparkled in Azriel's eyes, as if he still wasn't sure his mother should be exposed to the potential dangers of the world, even in a city as safe as Velaris. But it was there and gone in a heartbeat, so fast you might have missed it if you didn't know him so well.
Rosalind didn't seem to notice, though, and the conversation flowed easily from there. She asked you many questions—about your childhood, your passions, your jobeager to know you as you were, and not just through Azriel's stories.
You got to know her just as well, and during the few hours you spent together, a connection began to take shape. Quiet and natural, it settled between you like it had always been meant to grow there. You wondered why you’d even been nervous in the first place.
Maybe it was because of your lucky necklace.
When you and Azriel finally left, just before dinner, Rosalind made you promise to return the following week—and to start planning her visit to Velaris.
You wrote this about Simon: “At this lieutenant, already chewed up and spit out by the world. More scars than skin at this point. You wonder how many people only see the scars and not the shivering body underneath it, waiting for a soft touch.”
I’d LOVE to read more of this - i wanna be the one to offer him the soft touch he wants so badly, maaaan! He’s just so big n’ strong but i want to let him curl up against me while i pet him until he stops shivering
This came through at the perfect time. I had the desire to write but I was picking at all my wips half heartedly bc none of the them were what I wanted.
But this? This I wanted.
So thank you again and please enjoy 1.5k words of acclimatizing Simon to soft touches.
He scared you, the first time you saw him.
Not because of how big he was (tall, thick, muscular) or the look in his eyes (cold, dismissive, too watchful), not even because of the scars themselves (numerous, expansive, tragic).
It was because you knew any interaction would come across as a threat. He had that look in his eyes that said he'd seen the worst of what the world had to offer and he persisted through luck and spite equally. Now he was sat in front of you, too disciplined to let his skin shiver but hating being seen. Hating that you were looking.
When you met him it was through a friend of a friend sort of thing. One of your friends was seeing a Scottish boy and invited you out for drinks with them. You had no reason to say no so you found yourself sitting at a high-top doing your best not to bother the man sitting quietly to your right.
His gruff, Simon, during introductions was the only thing he had said in the last hour, content to sit quietly and watch. Almost outside of the group even though he was sitting at the same table. You made sure to include him when you were speaking to the group, your eyes darting to each person as you spoke, not leaving anyone out. But you made sure to never direct a hard question at him that required an answer. It was all, I bet you never have a problem seeing over the crowd. or I'll grab everyone a drink while I'm up or Sorry, I'll be out of your space in a moment, my jacket was getting a little warm.
He would look at you. Every time you spoke to him he wouldn't shy away from eye contact but that was where his involvement ended. Never a head nod or shake, never a verbal answer.
By the end of the night you were positive he didn't like you. He didn't dis-like you but he didn't like you, you were pretty sure. That was okay though. You'd done your best not to infringe on his space, not wanting to step on his toes. You thought you had done a good job all around and put it out of your mind, the interaction over and done with and no longer needing to be reviewed.
What you never realized was Simon's shoulders lowered a whole inch throughout the course of the night.
\\\
You called your friend out on the number of times she invited you to hang out with Johnny and Simon, flat out asking if she and Johnny were trying to set you and Simon up through subtle double-dating.
"No!" She leaned forward grabbing your hand, her eyes looking earnestly into yours, "I promise it's not like that. Johnny told me he's pretty much all Simon has. Well, their team is. So they're always together when they're home. I don't want Simon to feel like a third wheel or left out or anything."
And you believed her. This was one of her strong suits, always looking out for others. That's probably why you two got along so well, a pair of givers, the both of you. And she had a point. The idea of Simon sitting awkwardly with the other two as his only companions made something twist in your stomach. You didn't want that for him.
So you kept seeing Simon and you kept doing your best to give him space but include him at the same time. You were shocked the first day he spoke to you but the fact that it was a bad joke made a sort of perfect sense.
"What's the best way to carve wood?"
You looked over at him in shock that this was what he chose to break the ice with. At the same time you were delighted and you couldn't help but feel giddy at the prospect of Simon telling you a joke. A bad one by the sound of it.
"How?"
"Whittle by whittle."
"That was absolutely terrible."
He smiled to himself if his eye crinkles had anything to say about it. That giddy feeling bubbling up inside you was getting unsettlingly big right about now. You looked at the ground and bit your lip to keep from a cheesy grin of your own breaking out.
Before you knew it he had no problem speaking to you. While never particularly verbose, he would respond to comments directed towards him, offer his opinion if options were offered, and kept telling awful jokes.
You were hopelessly charmed.
You broke your own rules and reached for him first.
You were sat next to him on a bench, the sun setting and the evening air cooling further. He had told you another one of his god-awful jokes when you unthinkingly swatted out with your hand, brushing his arm. His muscles jumped and his arm tensed right before you made contact as if bracing for a hit. An involuntary reaction to someone reaching for him. It was a horrifying realization.
You sobered quickly and your chuckle died off awkwardly. You turned to face forward, looking out at the street, watching for any sign of your friend or Johnny who had stepped into the store for a quick moment leaving you and Simon to find a bench while you waited. You hoped that if you didn't draw attention to it then your faux pas would pass unmentioned.
You let out a relieved sigh when Simon continued with another comment, not taking your overstepping to heart. By the time the other two had rejoined you the whole situation was forgotten, water under the bridge. You didn't think of it again until it was the end of the night with everyone about to go their separate ways.
When you said goodbye to Simon he said it back, reaching out to brush his hand down your arm in return in almost the exact same spot as where you'd touched him earlier.
Your heart skipped a beat before picking up a double pace. You couldn't help but beam at him, a wide grin splitting your face even as he grunted and turned away, likely embarrassed by your show of emotion.
Today had been a good day after all.
You thought you had ruined it for a moment there, thankful when Simon seemed to brush past it. You hadn't expected him to reciprocate in the same manner though.
Maybe he really did like hanging out with you. You never doubted it for a second.
\\\
It took time–a slow steady build to where you ended up, curled up on the couch together with Simon laying on top of you. You both had your tops off to bask in a little skin-to-skin time.
You'd been together for a few months at this point and it was like night and day to compare him to the Simon you met all that time ago. This one couldn't keep his hands off you to save his life. It was a slow warm-up to get past his walls in a way that wasn't upsetting to either of you. Soft touches that slowly built, leading to hand holding, to hugging, to kissing, to this.
You dragged your fingers slowly up his back, fingertips catching on raised scar tissue before continuing on, ever moving. He hummed into the crook of your neck where he had buried his face when you switched from fingertips to nails, gently scratching the skin.
You loved spending time like this, feeling Simon melt into you, eager for every touch he could get. If you were sitting still and Simon was in the vicinity you could bet that he would be pressed against your side before too much time had passed. Eager for the soft caresses you always had for him.
He was starved for touch and you wanted to feed him.
So you offered, again and again in the beginning–most times with no luck, to let him touch you. On the couch watching TV? Your arms would open, inviting a hug when he walked by. At the table? Your head was tilting up for a kiss if he wanted one. Passing each other in the hallway? You'd raise your hand and hold it in front of you, letting him press his big barrel chest into your palm if he wanted.
It was a slow acclimatization that brought you to today and the taste was all the sweeter for the time you had poured into it.
You lifted a hand to drag it through the spiky hairs at the back of his head, enjoying his groan of contentment. It sounded like he was already halfway asleep and you knew you wouldn't be leaving this spot for a while.
Might as well settle in and get comfortable. You familiarized him to gentle touches, now he was insatiable for them. He would be consuming them from you greedily for as long as you offered.
Once Upon A Time chapter 5
<first> <prev> <next>
Jason Todd knew it was only a matter of time until his bubble burst and one of his brothers found out what he was getting up to. He was just hoping he could pull it off for a little longer. Even though the pit still reacted at the strangest times, he felt calmer, more normal, than he had in years. He wanted to hold it close and make sure nobody could take it from him.
From Replacement: you went back to college? Does B know?
Fuck.
—
Danny had been wary at first. Rich boy Jason Todd-Wayne in his college classes. The man was older than Jazz, though not by much, and a freshman with him. Either the guy was a bad influence or Danny just had really shitty luck.
He and the universe both knew the answer to than one really. But 60 bucks a week to reteach the guy basic math and Jason always gave him dinner in the deal? Danny wasn’t going to look that particular gift horse in the mouth. If there was one thing Danny had forgotten during the past almost two years it was how hungry his human side got. Not having money and being on the run meant opportunities to eat were few and far between.
What Danny didn’t expect was how sarcastic and assholish the rich guy could be. He loved trading snark. Danny assumed that it came from them both having older siblings. But between that and the half formed core that was slowly shoring up, Danny found himself growing attached. He had missed having friends. Getting to talk to Sam, Tucker and rarely Jazz through a conspiracy message board wasn’t enough. Most of the time it was just a way to make sure that nobody had been captured by the GIW. They had a way to pass longer messages but to do that too often would be suspicious.
“So I don’t get it,” Danny said, gesturing at Jason with some fries almost a month into tutoring, “What do people actually do at Galas? The tabloid pics just show a bunch of people in uncomfortable looking suits standing around with champagne.”
“….thats really it. It’s boring as shit.” Jason kicked his chair back on two legs, leaning against the wall. “If I liked you less I’d invite you.”
“If you liked me less?”
“Oh yeah. Because then you’d have to meet my brothers, the assorted not quite adopteds, my dad and scarier yet, our butler.” Danny choked on his laugh.
“Your butler is the scary one in that situation?”
“Alfred is like a ghost. Always there when you turn around.” Jason put on the accent “Master Jason, you really must come home more. Nobody quite enjoys my cooking like you.” He let the chair legs settle on the floor. “Now imagine that from behind you in a dark kitchen at two am while you’re half drunk and trying to make a sandwich.”
“Okay, yeah, I could see it being that scary. My sister was….” Shit he hadn’t meant to mention Jazz. “She was the only one who cared sometimes.” May as well rip that bandaid off.
“Yeah?” Jason asked, taking a drink from his coffee cup. “Didn’t know you had a sister.”
“My family and I don’t see each other anymore. It’s for the best.” He hoped Jason wouldn’t ask more questions, because ‘my parents sold me out to the government that only knew where I was because of the Justice League which is why I hate them and by association your dad, and now my sister is in hiding in a different state with a new identity’ was way too difficult to explain. “I left before they could kick me out.”
Danny watched Jason’s face twist into a frown. “Bigots suck. Sorry man.”
“Yeah…. Well…” Danny busied himself with finishing his burger. Then, once he chewed and swallowed. “Wait. Is your dad the one that fell into the champagne tower last year?”
Jason groaned, “he’s not always like that I promise.”
“No I get it. A weird ‘Family Friend’ invited us to his fancy party so he could hit on my mom once. I accidentally on purpose took out the entire buffet table including a cheese fountain so we had to go home.”
“Cheese fountain?”
“You know those chocolate fountains?” Danny asked. Jason nodded. “Like that, but with fondue cheese instead. And before you ask why, all I can say is it was in Wisconsin.”
Jason watched him with an unreadable expression for a moment, and Danny assumed he was processing it, because when the expression broke, Jason was laughing.
He looked so much younger when he laughed like that, and Danny remembered that they had both had, in their own ways, a rough life. “Yeah. I know. I was finding cheese in the weirdest places for weeks.”
“Did you get invited back?” Danny’s heart ached with the fact that a month or so later, Everything Fell Apart.
“No… I…” he cut himself off, remembering the horrified looks his parents gave him as their weapons, the ones he fixed, were turned against the ‘beast’ that ‘possessed’ their son. The looks mimicking the ones they gave him when the party screeched to a halt as he did his best impression of a Scooby Doo villain being unmasked. The screams of shock turning into ones of horror. The -
“-anny? Danny?” He blinked and shook his head.
“What? Oh, sorry.” He took another drink from the coffee, emptying the cup. “No. I never was asked back. You done?” He looked at their empty plates and grabbed the tray. “We should get to the library. Though I’m sure someone as good looking as you has plenty, these x-es won’t find themselves.” He was overcompensating for zoning out now, words coming out faster than normal.
“Yeah… are… you okay?” Jason asked, as Danny bussed their tray and grabbed his backpack, a backpack bought by his tutoring money. A tutoring gig he desperately did not want to fuck up with his own bullshit.
“Me? Fine. More than. I just zone out sometimes. Come on.” Danny’s words were still coming out too fast. He took a few breaths during the couple seconds Jason took getting his things, trying to ground himself as much as possible. He was going to be normal. He was going to be normal if it killed him. Again.
The walk to the library was quiet and Danny was thankful for that. He needed to get his head on straight if he was going to be any help to Jason and he still had his own homework to do after. As they walked in, both Danny and Jason instinctively looked towards the desk where Barbara usually worked, but she wasn’t there, some other guy was checking in books with quiet beeps.
Danny had learned over the last month that while Dick, Tim and Damian were Jason’s official siblings, Barbara was an unofficial one and he liked her the most.
It made sense, since she didn’t seem to pry into Jason’s life the way Jazz would have if she was here. Not that he would have minded her prying for how much he missed her, but four years ago he would have hated it.
—
Jason knew the haunted and hunted look that had settled into Danny’s eyes. The way he trailed off into something vacant. How his breathing seemed to get stuck in his chest. Which is why he tried to interrupt the cycle before he could spiral. Something big happened to him, and Jason knew he wouldn’t want to break down in a cafe in front of people.
Thankfully he seemed to snap out of it quickly, instead overcompensating into energetic. The message was clear. ‘Don’t ask about what just happened.’ Carefully, Jason let Danny lead him into the library, aware of his positioning and making sure not to follow too far behind or loom too much. Considering he had at least six inches on Danny, that last part was hard, but he tried.
He could feel the pit spiraling in him, circling and coiling like a dragon deep in his chest. Itching to do…. Something. It wasn’t punch or claw or fight. This was new. He didn’t like it in the slightest.
He looked over to where Babs usually was, then remembered she had a class, criminal justice degree, how apt, as he and Danny went towards what was now their spot. Jason found he had the sudden impulse to pull Danny’s chair out for him, and shoved that particular useless idea back down into the abyss it belonged in.
—
Danny looked over at Jason who stood at the edge of the table looking…. Angry? Confused? and pulled out his own books. “I promise, my zoning out isn’t contagious.” He said, looking up at Jason and kicking the chair across from him out from under the table for Jason to sit. He gave a wry smile, “if it was, I don’t think anyone in my high school would have made it.”
Jason snorted a laugh, snapping out of whatever thoughts he had been thinking. Jason pulled the chair out further and sat, sitting more comfortably than he used to. More of the true Jason, Danny was realizing, less of the person he was supposed to be. In another lifetime…. But no. He couldn’t… not while he was being hunted. It wouldn’t be fair to Jason to have to hide such a huge part of himself and his past.
Not to mention he hadn’t ever come out to Jazz and his friends. Well he had…. But more in the ‘hey I’m dead but not really’ way and less in the ‘so I like guys’ way.
But in spite of those barriers, this tentative friendship with Jason was enough to keep him happy.
Which made the next kick in the teeth from the universe completely expected.
All he had wanted was to walk home in peace. Sure it was almost midnight, in Gotham, but still. He made it most of the way, and was slinking through the Bowery when it happened.
Guys with dark clothes and weapons were suddenly in front of him. He turned only to see more at his back. There had to be five in total? Or was it six? Danny didn’t have time to count.
“Hey guys.” He hedged, muscles tensing as he raised his hands to show he wasn’t a threat. “Don’t mind me, I’m just trying to get home. Long walk and all that. If I could just…. Scooch past you?” Danny took a step to do just that and the lead goon swung at him with a baton.
He hopped back slightly, dodging the hit when it came. “Not a chance. Boss needs some…. Help with his latest ideas. You’re coming with us.”
Danny ran through his options in his head. Option 1: get kidnapped. Option 2: get the shit kicked out of him. Option 3: beat the shit out of them and get labeled as a possible bat to be or possible rogue to be. Option 4: go fully ghost and either escape unscathed but wind up more firmly on the GIW’s radar.
Option two or three would wind up happening, because he wasn’t going to put himself at the mercy of the Bat-ass again, and he wasn’t going to offer himself up on a silver platter to the GIW.
The moment one tried to grab him, Danny dodged out of the way, and that seemed to bring the goons on him en masse. They seemed well practiced, but considering it was Gotham, there wasn’t a big surprise there. The next few minutes were a flurry of elbows and knees, punches and kicks, batons and clubs.
Danny would dodge and counter, disarm one and fling their weapon across the street. He would have sore ribs and bruises from his elbows to his knuckles come morning but he was slowly winnowing them down. He had a brief thought about the conservation of ninjutsu, as the fewer goons there were the stronger they seemed to get. The realistic answer was they were less concerned with hurting each other when there were fewer of them, he knew that. But everything was more fun with ninjas.
When there were three left, one threw a punch that connected with his nose. There was a pop and crunch and a hot rush of blood down his face even before the pain set in. He spat out the blood that collected in his mouth from the way his head snapped back when he was punched. Another one came at him, and his own years of training caught the guy’s arm, judo throwing them into another look and sending them both careening into a wall. The move was trickier with gravity, but he made it work.
Danny looked up at the last remaining goon. He grinned, teeth too sharp and stained with his own blood, eyes glowing just the faintest green. “Run.”
They did.
Unfortunately for the goon, they ran smack into the chest of one Batman.
Practice On Me — Part Nine — Azriel x Reader
Summary: Roza’s arrival in Windhaven brings some home truths crashing down on Reader. She just needs a hug, someone to talk to, but it all goes very, very wrong…
Word Count: 3k.
Warnings: None.
Chaos evades logic.
There is no rationality to be found here. No sense to be made of the ample feelings that begin to chew you up and spit you out.
All you know, as you lace your breeches up and correct yourself, is that you feel like you’ve been punched in the gut.
“Are you decent?” Roza calls, her back still to you.
You tie the last lace. Clear your throat. “All good.”
The closest person you’ve ever had to a mother figure turns on the spot. She’s absolutely beautiful — fucking glowing — her swollen belly visible through her thick coat, and her eyes alight with a quality you’ve never seen before.
Rhysand really is the mirror image of her.
“I actually cannot believe I just witnessed that.” She grouses. “And just when I thought the morning sickness had finally come to an end, too. My poor, poor eyes.”
Cassian makes a noise. “Roz, that’s a bit dramatic—”
“You be quiet.” She points a finger at him. “Your mouth has done quite enough tonight, thank you very much.”
The two of them stare at each other — Cassian wanting to be a little shit and push his luck, and Roza wanting to…
Well, to gouge her eyes out with a rusty spoon, probably.
But then Cassian cracks a grin, and he’s bounding over to the female like an excitable pup. “Fuck, I’ve missed you.”
“Watch your language.” Roza scorns, but she happily accepts the hug that Cass yanks her into. “Gods, you’ve grown even more.”
You…you are rooted to the spot. Unable to move.
You want to go over there, too. To embrace her. But…but just seeing Roza makes the previous couple of months come hammering down on you in an unwelcome downpour of unwanted realisations.
You think: Roza caught me fooling around with Cassian.
And then you think: Fucking hell, I fooled around with Cassian again.
And then you’re wondering how — how you’ve let the recent events of your life veer down such a beaten, broken path.
It’s like Roza’s appearance brings a clarity that has been very much absent as of late. She’s always been a figure of reason and wisdom, always stopped you from spiralling.
And now she’s here, you’re looking at Cassian — your damn friend — and wondering just how much damage you might have caused.
He’s mid-conversation with Roza when he seems to notice you staring at him. Roza notices, too.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” She says.
You open your mouth, unsure how you intend to respond. All that slips out is a rasped, “I’m just…so glad you’re here.”
Cassian snorts. “Tell that to your face.”
You can’t bring yourself to laugh at the jibe. And it would seem that Roza can’t, either. She’s studying you in that assessing way you’ve seen her wear a thousand times before — the one where the motherly instinct kicks in, and she’s sensing something is wrong. It seems to be a subconscious act, the way she slides her hand over her bump.
“So what are you doing back here, anyway?” Cassian asks her, slinging an arm round her shoulders. “I thought the High Lord wanted you to stay in Velaris for the pregnancy.”
“He does.” Roza says. “But then I found out Y/N had somehow ended up homeless and that he hadn’t bothered to help, so he and I aren’t on the best of terms right now.” She eyes you again. “I’ve come to move you properly into the cottage — including retrieving your belongings from your father’s house. I will not have you freezing your ass off in this dump.”
Gods, you love her.
She’s so fierce, so passionate. This is a female who housed three lost, rowdy children under her roof and offered them the same amount of love as she felt for her biological son. This is a female who does what she believes is right and damns the consequences. This is a female who doesn’t hesitate — not for one second — to help somebody in need.
She’s the exact kind of female you want yourself to be. And she’s the only person you wish to see in that moment.
“Perfect.” Cassian chirps brightly. “I’ll help. Let’s go fetch Y/N’s stuff from the bastard’s house right now.”
He takes a step towards the door, but Roza is laying a hand on his arm. She doesn’t look away from you once. “Cassian, my darling, I love you endlessly. And so, I say this with the greatest of adoration — fuck off to the mead hall, or something, and leave Y/N and I to have some girl time alone.”
“What?” He squawks in outrage. “But you just got here.”
“And I promise you we’ll catch up properly later. But right now, Y/N and I need some time alone.”
“But—”
“Do you want to stay and discuss the ins and outs of childbirth?”
Instantly, he falters. The change of tune would be comical if you were actually capable of feeling anything but despair in that moment.
“You know what?” He cracks a grin. “The mead hall sounds great right about now.”
Roza chuckles. “I thought it might. I’m taking Y/N back to the cottage. I’ll come and fetch you when we’re done. And if you see Az or Rhys, be sure to tell them to stay away, too.”
Oh.
This is going to be a serious talk.
You can’t remember the last time Roza was so insistent about it just being the two of you.
Probably when you got your first ever cycle, and she held and soothed and bathed you through it.
Will she still be so tender when she hears of the full scope of the mess you’ve created for yourself? You’re not sure you’d deserve it.
“Go easy, Cass.” Roza warns. “Don’t get into any fights.”
“Pff. As if I would.” Your friend lands a kiss on her cheek. “You look beautiful, Roz.” He says, and then he’s bustling out of the door without a care in the world.
You stare after him. Wish you could be that carefree. It feels…it feels impossible.
Gods, you just want to fucking cry.
Roza can see that. She holds a hand out.
“Come, my little dove.” She says. “Let’s get you home.”
✧: *✧・゚✧・゚: *✧・゚✧・゚: *✧・゚✧・゚: *✧・゚✧・゚: *✧・゚
It kind of feels like walking into the cottage for the very first time, all over again.
You remember that night like it happened only yesterday. Remember how the cold had felt as you’d followed Azriel through the snow. The noises of bickering coming from behind the door.
Even at eleven, Az had always seemed so much taller than you. You’d noticed that as he’d strode ahead and led you inside.
Roza had been standing in the kitchen, and she’d turned to you with a curious expression. “Oh.” She’d chirped, with more warmth than you’d ever heard from your own kin. “What have we here, then?”
You, Azriel had explained to her, had been set upon by a group of males far older than you. Az had defended you, and then he’d invited you to share his dinner.
Roza had taken one look at the dirt packed beneath your fingernails and told you to thoroughly wash your hands before taking a seat. You’d done just that.
And it was at that very table that Rhysand had introduced himself.
“I’m Rhysand. My father is the High Lord.”
Roza had scolded him for showing off.
And it was after that that Cassian had eyed you with a wild, feral look and simply said, “I bet I could beat you in an arm wrestle. I beat everyone.”
“Not at my dinner table, you don’t.” Roza had put a stop to that immediately. And then she’d placed a steaming pie in the centre of the table, and High Lords and arm wrestles were all but forgotten, and Azriel had been quiet and shy at your side, but dutifully offering you different foods before he took any for himself—
Standing at the threshold of the cottage, now…it’s like watching that entire scene play out before you. The ghosts of your younger, wayward selves feast greedily on a wholesome meal that lets you forget your harrowing experiences for a little while.
How things have changed.
You finally step in. Kick the door shut behind you. The smells and warmth of your sanctuary envelop you, and you know — you fucking know that you won’t be able to keep a lid on your tears for long.
“Don’t know how many times I’ve told those idiots to put the fire out before they leave the house.” Roza mutters, but she goes striding straight towards that burning fire and welcomes its warmth. “Although, I must admit, I’m a little impressed. I expected this place to be far messier in my absence than it is. Don’t tell me they’ve actually been cleaning—”
“Roza.” You cut in, your voice shaky, desperate. “About what you saw—”
She turns back to you. Says nothing as concerned, violet eyes sweep the length of your body. She’s letting you speak, but you don’t know what the fuck to say.
You open and close your mouth as though the act will make some sense of…any of this.
It doesn’t.
“I didn’t realise you and Cassian were…” Roza clears her throat. Pauses. “I just…what of Azriel, Y/N?”
You blink at her.
Roza’s very good at knowing things she hasn’t been told, but for her to know about you and Az when she’s been in Velaris this whole time, and when, as far as you’re aware, these things have been strictly kept between you and Azriel only—
“What?” You breathe.
“Perhaps I’m wrong, I don’t know.” She frowns. “But I always suspected that you and Az would be…something more. Your connection with him has always run a little deeper than with anyone else. That’s why I was so shocked when I found you…and Cass…”
Is she wrong?
No.
And fucking damn you for taking all these years to see it. Fucking damn you for only realising you wanted Azriel as more than just your friend when somebody else began to recognise his brilliance.
Fucking damn you for all of this, and damn Azriel, too, and damn everyone.
It all comes showering down on you in an instant, harsh and unwelcome.
You love Azriel. Not just in the way you love Rhysand and Cassian. You’re in love with his soul, his spirit. Who he is will always be tethered to who you are, even though he isn’t yours to cling onto. It’s been that way since you were old enough to harbour such feelings, and you’ve been burying it all these years, burying it under bad choices and regrettable actions, because all of that seemed easier to face, than…this. The fact that you were never able to control your heart, stop it from feeling such things, and now you feel them so intensely that it hurts.
Had your deal with Az ever really been about helping him, or had it been a selfish ruse under which you could have some small experience to remember him by when he inevitably gave his heart to somebody else?
Because you are just Y/N. You’ve always just been Y/N.
You are not Kaeda — Kaeda with the wings, and the strength, and the excellence.
Just Y/N. Just Y/N—
“Speak to me, my love.” Roza steps closer. “I’m worried about you.”
Your eyes blur with tears. Your legs buckle, and you’re bracing one hand on the back of the couch while the other flies up to cup over your mouth.
“Oh, gods, what have I done?” Your voice breaks.
“Speak to me.” Roza says again.
“This is all such a mess.”
“What is, Y/N?”
“I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I don’t know what—what to do!”
“You need to breathe.” She responds firmly. “Deep breaths. Now.”
You try. Gods, you try. But your chest is constricting, and the air won’t reach your lungs, and all you can hear on a constant loop inside your head is one, bellowing sentence.
Everything is irreversibly changed.
Roza closes the gap between you and cups your face. The touch is soft, but firm. She forces you to look at her, and her face is blurred by your tears, but you know she’s looking at you how she’s always looked at you — with love.
“Tell me what’s going on, and I can help you through it.” She pleads.
“I didn’t mean for any of this to happen.” You sob back.
She yanks you close, arms wrapping around you. She’s held you like this through so, so much. This is no different.
But it feels different, in that it feels worse. Not only is it possible that your actions could change your relationships with both Cassian and Azriel, but also that they could change their relationship with each other, too — change the strong, steadfast dynamic between your three closest friends.
You tremble, clinging to Roza like you may just collapse. Your heartbeat gallops in your ears like rhythmic footfalls.
“Y/N—”
“It all turned into a total mess.” You choke out. “I was feeling things — I am feeling things — and then Azriel had Kaeda and I was jealous and stupid and I — I shouldn’t have done it. I shouldn’t have slept with Cassian.”
“You did what?”
Those three, outraged words are not spoken in Roza’s voice. The sudden interjection of Azriel’s is enough for your sobs to catch in your throat.
Every single inch of your body goes cold as you step back to look at him. Blink at him. Roza fights to keep hold of you.
Normally, he would have hurried over to embrace her. But he stays rooted to the last step of the staircase. He’s staring at you. Only you.
You’ve never seen him look so pale.
“Az.” Roza sighs softly. “We didn’t realise you were home.”
He doesn’t look away from you — not once — as he asks, “What did you just say?”
Roza inches towards him. “I think we all need to sit down and talk about this—”
“You fucked Cassian?”
Tears spill over, roll down your cheeks. Your voice doesn’t want to show itself as you croak out, “Az, I can explain.”
“You fucked Cassian?” He’s repeating it like…like he needs to. Like it won’t get into his head any other way. “You had sex with him?”
“Yes, but—”
“Around the time you and I were doing similar things?”
Roza’s head whips round to you in surprise. You’d failed to mention that bit. After a moment, she rights herself once more. “Azriel, you should let her speak.”
“I can’t fucking believe you.” Letting you speak is the last thing on his mind as he steps down, storming past the two of you. You reach out for him, but he’s jerking away, heading for the door.
“Azriel, please.” Your voice cracks. “Let me explain.”
“Explain that you fucked Cass? At the same time that I was sharing such…such huge things with you—”
“At the same time you were sharing them with Kaeda!”
He falls still, hand faltering on the doorknob, shoulders hunched.
And then he glances over his shoulder at you with an expression so bleak, you’d do anything, make a bargain with anyone, to wipe it from his face.
“Except that I’ve never touched Kaeda like that.” He says. “Not once. I couldn’t.”
Before you’re capable of summoning an answer, he’s yanking the door open and thundering out into the snow.
Shock pulses through you, ice-cold and harrowing. You blink, and blink and blink and blink, and you think Roza might be saying your name, but you can only choke out another sob that grates against your throat, and then your legs are moving forward, stumbling out of the door.
“Az, wait!” You cry, but he’s already striding far into the distance. “Please!”
You try to move, but it’s like the snow is binding your ankles, grounding you firmly to the spot. You sob. Try to move. Fall. Get up. It’s cold and wet. You’re hurting. Everything’s hurting.
And somebody’s yelling — yelling at you.
“Hey!” You know the voice. It’s a voice you don’t like. But you can’t put a face to it until its owner is stopping in front of you, sneering at you. Lord Devlon. “What did I tell you about staying away from these parts, girl?”
You’re incapable of answering him. You’re not even looking at him. You just stare and stare in the direction that Az disappeared in, fat, hot tears rolling down your cheeks.
“I’m talking to you.” Devlon grabs your chin between his fingers, hard. “Insolent female—”
“Remove your hand from her face at once.”
He blinks at the sight of Roza stepping out of the cottage. Clearly, he had no clue she’d returned. And even he won’t speak out against the High Lord’s pregnant mate.
He drops his hand immediately.
Roza steps up to your side and narrows her gorgeous eyes at him. Her hand sits on her swollen belly. “Look at you, Lord Devlon — following orders like a good dog. Now, go on. Fuck off.”
There’s a slight twitch of a muscle as he clenches his jaw. He hates every second of it, but he obediently turns away from you.
“Oh — Lord Devlon?” Roza calls after him.
He stops. Turns. “Yes, lady?”
“I decide who can and cannot live in my house.” She stares him down. “That call is mine and mine alone. And if I hear of you giving Y/N any more trouble? I’ll rip your fucking throat out.”
She turns her back to him with utter dismissal. If you weren’t so devastated, you might laugh at his stunned expression.
But Roza sees the pain in your eyes, and she pulls you into her arms.
“Come, my love.” She murmurs softly. “Let’s get you inside.”
What if someone from "Sheep"'s old pack came back around and tried to expose them, maybe for joy in suffering or to get people to split away and have an easy meal?
Sorry if this read weird I'm tired as hell
(I doubt any of them would recognize "Sheep" after all these years, but here's what would happen if any predator tried to reveal "Sheep's" identity.")
[Warnings Physical Violence, "Sheep" has a panic attack.]
-
"How stupid can you lot be?"
No...This isn't real. It's all a bad dream, right? You'll wake up any minute now, surrounded by all your friends and neighbors you've yet to acquaint yourself with. Perhaps you'll finally join Rabbit on one of their picnics. Or maybe Swan can teach you how to play chess - surely he must be tired of you asking which piece is which every time you play.
Claws digging into the meat of your shoulders stake you within the world of this cruel reality. This isn't a dream. You can't wake up, even if you chewed your own tongue off and suffocated on the blood as every cell in your body screamed at you to do. It would save you the torment. Your mouth hangs open, ragged draws of air and the smooth, filed surface of your canines preventing you from carrying out the deed.
"A sheep? This thing?" The cackle he barks causes your knees to curl against your chest - body instinctively trying to make you as small as possible. What do you have to be do afraid of? If you weren't so spineless you could've done something by now. Everyone is going to die now, and they'll die hating you.
"I wouldn't be surprised if we grew up from the same pack!"
It won't be long now- the concern for their fellow neighbor bleeding away to further terror and confusion. Were you responsible for the recent disappearances? How long until you devoured everyone? Monster. Beast. Wolf.
The townspeople are in a frenzy. What should they do? If the wolf's claims are true.... No- That could be dealt with that. The most important thing was getting you away from him before he hurt you anymore. They're so many of them. It'd be easy, right? The thought crosses their minds, but no one dares to speak first. A rabbit grows annoyed of their hesitance. Whilst the town is bickering amongst themselves, you're laying there - cowering for your life as that wolf threatens to ruin it for you. It isn't fair. The knife in their basket was for cutting cakes for you to share...
"Liar....."
As the rabbit weaves through the crowd, another resident of the town returns home from her daily gatherings. Rocks weight the pockets of her dress - the shouts and panic from her fellow neighbors channeling miles throughout the forest. Scrambling to find the sharpest one, she throws it directly at the back of the wolf's head.
"You damned liar!"
The wolf staggers forward - a pitiful whine escaping you as his claws retract from your shoulder. Blood gushes from the back of his cranium, a sharp ringing in his ears bring him to his knees - landing center on the blade aimed at his stomach.
"About a week ago, Sheep and I found a robin's nest in my backyard.... They got all teary eyed when the last egg wouldn't hatch... Tell me.... Would a wolf do that?"
Rabbit plants their foot on the wolf's chest, twisting the handle of their knife as they rip it from his bowels. The wolf grabs into their ankle, using what little strength he has to shove them off of him. Mouse leaps onto him from behind, slamming another rock into the nape of his neck.
"Take it back! Take it back! Sheep isn't anything like you! How dare you accuse them! You monster!"
Stop....
Your voice is too quiet for any of them to hear. You doubt that'd stop them anyway. They'll kill him. He came here to do the same, but does that make it right? Strong arms lift you from the dirt floor - mindful of their antlers as they place your head to their shoulder. Mayor Moose always knew you best - hushing your sniffles as soon as they begin. Swan stands off to the side behind him, refusing to meet your eyes. He tucks the coat of his suit over the handgun strapped to his belt.
"I'm sorry..... I'm so sorry."
"What are you apologizing for?" Swan still fails to look up at you. He knows if he does- there's the smallest chance he'll give into your pleads.
"Get some rest. You'll need it after the day you've had."
Carried away from the commotion, the defenses your fellow townspeople confess, the blood they spill so that your innocent is kept - the blood loss and sheer shock of it all lulls you into a dreamless slumber.
It's the best sleep you've gotten in months.
masterlist
-
The room smells like hot chocolate, cinnamon and a hint of Eddie’s cologne. The mug on the table that was filled to the brim is now halfway empty. A box of Christmas cookies that your mom gave him when he came by last night is in between the two of you. He hasn’t stopped munching on them since you started the movie; Halloween.
You couldn’t choose between Friday the 13th and Halloween so you let him pick.
After you let your friends know that you were leaving, you and Eddie went to the diner to eat something before you went back to his trailer after renting a few movies at Family Video.
“I can’t believe that this is your favorite movie,” Eddie says as he bites into the snowflake shaped cookie.
You turn to look at him. He is still wearing the same clothes as before just like you.
“Are you judging me?” You snort, swatting his arm. “You literally picked it.”
He chuckles and looks at you with a smirk, “I picked between the ones you chose.”
“You literally said that Halloween is one of your favorite movies!”
He shrugs, chewing the cookie before he speaks up again, “maybe I lied.”
You roll your eyes and lean back, “so what’s your favorite movie then, master of dungeons?”
The nickname makes him chuckle, he turns his head away from the screen, “Halloween.”
He laughs when you shake your head in disbelief, grabbing one of the pillows, you hit him with it, causing him to laugh harder.
“Dork.”
He snorts at you, “dork? What happened with the master of dungeons?”
You lean closer to him and look into his eyes with a serious look on your face, “he turned into a massive dork.”
“If I’m a dork then what are you?”
“A fairy witch,” you wink at him and reach for one of the cookies before you lean back.
His eyes flash with amusement, his lips curl into a smile, “right,” he laughs, “is the fairy witch gonna stay over tonight?”
You face him again, the cookie is still in your hand. There’s a knowing look in his eyes.
He knows your mom won’t be home tonight, she is working the night shifts this week and won’t be home until the morning. If there is one thing that Eddie had learned about you in the time you had become friends, is that you hate going to sleep when you are home alone, he doesn’t know why but he noticed your anxiety early on. He saw the tired look in your eyes in the mornings and he noticed how easily you would drift off to sleep when he came by after school to study. You would make up excuses when he’d ask you about it but he could see through you.
He doesn’t know the reasoning behind your fears but he understands it. When he was a kid, he was restless, he struggled to sleep at nights because of his dad, who usually came home late after spending the night drinking or doing drugs. Whenever Eddie would hear the front door opening, his heart would start racing and he would be on high alert – his dad always picked fights with his mom and all Eddie ever wanted to do was to protect her. But he was just a kid and his dad was a violent man.
Eddie couldn’t protect her.
When he moved in with Wayne, nothing changed for the first few months. He kept staying up at nights – the anxiety and the fear that always lingered kept him up. Whenever he would fall asleep, nightmares would wake him up. He would hear the trailer door being slammed open, he would hear his mom screaming, his dad yelling and hitting things. Eddie would wake in cold sweat, he would jump up from the bed and run out of the room to stop his dad from hitting her only to realize that the trailer door never opened, his dad never came in and his mom would never be there again.
He knows that you are struggling with something too but he would never push you to talk. He just wants to protect you.
“We could watch Friday the 13th and y’know, share a joint.”
You swallow.
“You don’t mind me staying over?”
Eddie frowns at your question and shakes his head, “why would I ask if I minded you staying over? You know you’re always welcome here, sweetheart.”
You smile at his words. Eddie always knows how to make you feel safe and comfortable. Heather and Chrissy make you feel that way too but it’s different with them. You love and appreciate them but there are things that you can’t say to them – not because you don’t trust them but because you wouldn’t be able to deal with their pitiful looks, it’s been bad enough already after he dumped you.
You aren’t the only one who refuses to speak about certain things. You know that Chrissy has a secret, one that Heather is keeping safe from you. It hurts a little because a part of you is scared that it might have something to do with you. Why else would they keep a secret from their best friend?
“Then I’d love to stay the night.”
He smiles, “cool.”
After you finish watching the movie, you carry the empty mugs and the box of cookies back into the kitchen. Eddie turns off the TV and reaches for the other movie tape before he leads you into his room. He turns on the small lamp on his nightstand and throws the tape on his bed. He walks over to his dresser and opens the top drawer.
“You know, the joint you mentioned earlier…” you mumble as you let yourself fall on his bed, curiously staring at the handcuffs that remain a mystery to you.
“You know, they should be calling you ‘the stoner’, not me,” he snorts. He turns back to you and hands you a shirt, he eyes you up and down, “here, that dress is pretty but it can’t be comfortable to sleep in,” he laughs.
“How kind of you,” you chuckle. You unfold the shirt, your eyes widen a little, “isn’t that your favorite one?”
He nods as he takes the chain around his neck off and places it on his nightstand.
“My favorite girl gets my favorite shirt,” he says, ruffling your hair as he winks at you.
You swat his hand away and laugh, “how many girls do you say that to, Eddie?”
He raises his brows and places his hand on his chest, “you think I’m bringing home girls? Did you forget who I am?” He laughs, shaking his head.
You furrow your brows. You drop the shirt on your lap and tilt your head to look at him.
You and Eddie haven’t been friends for long but you feel comfortable with each other – comfortable enough for him to take his shirt off in front of you. He throws it over his chair, he stands there shirtless for a second, scratching the spot around his new tattoo. He is just your friend but you are not blind, Eddie is pretty in a way no other guy at school is – except for Steve.
“You’re saying that you don’t bring any girls home?” You ask as you carefully pull the straps of your dress down your arms before you put the shirt on. Too lazy to get up and change in the bathroom, you take the dress off after pulling the shirt down to your thighs.
He puts on a black tank top and closes the drawer. “And no, I don’t bring any girls home. I’m a freak, nobody wants me.”
“Don’t say that,” you frown.
“Well, it’s the truth,” he chuckles as he drops down on the bed beside you after getting the pre rolled joint and a lighter, “girls don’t want me and honestly, I don’t care. I wouldn’t want to bring random girls home anyways.”
You raise your brows in surprise, it makes him chuckle but his eyes flash with confusion.
“What?”
“You actually wouldn’t bring home girls?” You ask. “Like, not even if they were throwing themselves at you?”
“You mean if I was popular?” He snorts.
You nod.
He shakes his head, he scoots closer to you and offers you the joint. You take it in between your fingers and bring it up towards your mouth, wrapping your lips around it, you look at him expectedly, nudging your chin towards the lighter in his hand. He holds it up to the joint and flicks the lighter, holding the flame against the bud of the joint. You inhale and close your eyes.
Eddie chuckles and pats your back when you open your eyes and exhale the smoke without coughing this time.
“Like a real stoner.”
“Shut up,” you chuckle and offer him the joint which he takes right away. He places it in between his lips and lies back, tucking his arm behind the pillow. He looks up at the ceiling and sighs after exhaling the smoke. For a moment, it’s silent between the two of you.
You stand up and place your dress over the back of his chair after folding it. You turn on the TV before you plop back down on the bed.
“I won’t lie to you, I’ve hooked up with uh – maybe three girls but they didn’t bother sticking around, they wouldn’t even look at me afterwards, they looked disgusted, every single one of them. I-I don’t know what I was thinking, I was hoping that it would be different each time but they were the same, all of them. The sex was good but uh I honestly don’t see the point of it if they don’t bother sticking around or if there’s no actual meaning behind it.”
Your heart breaks for him. You can imagine what he must have felt like when they treated him that way. You can see the sadness in his eyes, even when he tries to mask it.
You scoot closer to him and reach for his hand, his eyes meet yours and he smiles at you.
“You deserve better Eddie,” you whisper, squeezing his hand. “They were stupid cunts.”
A laugh falls from his lips, he tries to mask the hurt in his eyes with amusement but you can see through him, just like he can see through you.
“You know, Steve wouldn’t look at me either, sometimes. He just uh, he would fuck me, he would finish and then he would pass out. He rarely ever held me or kissed me, he almost never said ‘I love you’ either.”
Eddie frowns at your words. He isn’t shocked but he is angry.
“It hurt so bad because I loved him so much and all I wanted was for him to just hold me and tell me that he loves me but he didn’t and it made me overthinking everything,” you mumble as you blink the tears away, “and then there was Tommy who always said how men need new partners all the time, how they get bored with their girlfriends and I was praying that that wasn’t the case for Steve, that the reason why he never held me or kissed me was because he was just bad at being affectionate and romantic but then he agreed with what he said even though I was right there and it uh, it hurt, really fucking bad. I kinda lied to myself though, I kept telling myself that he did love me, that he didn’t get bored with me but then he left me for her and he changed for her so uh, I figured that Tommy was right all along.”
Eddie scoffs, he shakes his head at your words, “that’s not true, sweetheart.”
“It’s not?” You ask as you look back up at him.
“No. Tommy is a shittalker and Steve is an idiot – like a real idiot,” Eddie says as his eyes widen. He laughs a little, it’s a humorless laugh but a laugh nonetheless. “He was a piece of shit for not treating you the way you deserve to be treated but I think that he is one of those guys who lets his friends words get to him, who feels pressured to keep his reputation as some fucking heartbreak King rather than be a good boyfriend.” He looks like he knows something that you don’t. “He’s also the type of guy who doesn’t know what he has until it’s gone.”
“That makes sense,” you say even though you are not sure whether it actually makes sense or not. He almost kissed you and then he told you that he still loves you, that he always loved you only to show up to the dance with Nancy, like nothing ever happened.
Eddie stares at you. Your brows are furrowed and you have that same confused and lost look in your eyes that you always have whenever you get lost in your thoughts.
“Hey uh, I should probably tell you something,” he says as he sits up. He scratches the back of his neck and offers you the joint. You take it but don’t smoke it yet.
“What’s up?”
He runs his fingers through his curls and he takes a deep breath, “I drove him home last night.”
“Huh?”
He sighs, “Steve. I drove him home last night. I went to the Hideout to get my notebook and he was there getting plastered. He followed me outside and started asking about the jacket,” he mumbles, pointing to the jacket that is now back in his room again. “He got all pissed and jealous.”
You roll your eyes and scoff at his words.
“He calmed down when I told him we’re friends but uh, he tried to leave and I would’ve felt awful letting him drive home like that so I drove him home.”
A smile tugs at your lips, Eddie’s kindness is something that always warms your heart. To know that he is showing such kindness to people who don’t deserve it just proves even more how amazing he is.
“He started crying.”
A shocked expression takes over your face and you draw back a little, “what?”
“Yeah,” Eddie chuckles as he shakes his head. “He uh– well, first he insulted my music taste and then I turned on the radio for him, David Bowie came on and boom, I have a sobbing King Steve in my van.”
“Oh,” you whisper, your gaze softens. “David Bowie?”
“Mhmm.” He reaches for the joint again and places it between his lips, taking a drag before he places it into the ashtray on his nightstand. “Heroes.”
Your lips part and your face falls. It was your song. Yours and his. To know that it has such a hold on him still, makes you feel things that you want to keep buried.
You push yourself up and sit in front of him, “then what?”
Eddie’s brown eyes soften, he can see the pain in your features, the love that you still have for him. He can’t imagine how much pain there still is. He clears his throat.
“He said he misses you, that he doesn’t know what to do without you and that he wants you back.”
Your eyebrows draw together and your eyes feel hot with tears. Your heart hurts. After all, you still want him, deep down you do but you won’t take him back, not after everything he did. Not after the way he treated you, not after he cheated on you emotionally, not after he made you doubt everything, not after he told you that he never loved you, not after he left you for another girl.
You look down to hide the tears in your eyes. After almost two months, you should be feeling better, you were starting feeling better but then he had to rip the bandaids of your wounds that he had given you.
You don’t like crying in front of other people, you have never cried in front of Eddie before but right now, you can’t really stop the tears from falling. It’s all just too much.
“Hey,” Eddie whispers. His eyes soften and he doesn’t even hesitate before he opens his arms for you, offering you a hug that you so desperately need. You crawl over to him and let yourself fall into his arms. He wraps his arms around you as you lay your head on his chest. He rubs your back gently. “I’m here, I got you.”
You close your eyes and melt into the hug, this is what you needed.
This is what he never gave you. The feeling of comfort and safety. The feeling of knowing that he won’t push you away again after a few minutes.
You loved Steve – you love him. He was there but he was never with you. His mind was somewhere else, it always was. He gave you moments but he never gave you his all. With him you were never alone but god, you were so lonely.
Eddie keeps holding you. The sound of your cries and the voices in the TV fill the silence in the room.
He keeps rubbing your back, he plays with your hair and he doesn’t let go.
Why couldn’t he just hold you like he does?
“I know that this won’t make anything better but I think he loves you and he is starting to realize what he lost – only a man in love would get drunk at a bar he hates and break down in front of a guy he hates, also.”
You sniffle and grip his shirt tighter.
“Then why is he still with her? Why didn’t he love me before?”
“I think he always loved you, he was just too dumb to see and she,” he pauses, sighing. “She’s probably just a rebound now. Honestly, I think he was scared of all of this, his love for you. He was scared of it so he just threw it away and fucked it all up and now he’s following you around like some lost puppy.”
He does look like one, with his stupid brown eyes and the sad look in them.
“Why are you telling me this, Eddie?”
He takes a deep breath, he looks down at you but you hide your face as you wipe your tears away.
“I don’t know, I just think that he made a mistake and that the pain he put himself through shaped him into a different person,” he says, still glancing down at you, “I know you think that she changed him but that’s not the truth. I think he changed because of you – he’s still a dick and I don’t think that he deserves you but for what it’s worth, he does love you and he did love you even when he didn’t act that way but I saw the way he looked at you.”
You sniffle, trying to control your breathing as you look up at him, “what do you mean?”
His eyes soften and he hugs you even tighter, “when you were still together, he always looked at you like.. shit, like you hung the moon and the stars,” he chuckles. “I was shocked when I found out that he left you for some other girl. Made no sense to me, still doesn’t, by the way.”
You don’t know whether his words make you feel better or worse.
Eddie’s brown eyes are filled with sincerity and softness.
He can’t understand how Steve could do this to you. How he could just treat you so horribly and break your heart so easily.
“I think he really wants you back but I don’t think that he deserves a second chance, not yet.”
“Not yet?”
“I’m not gonna say that he will ever deserve one but maybe–” he pauses, he sighs as he watches the tears rolling down your cheeks, “maybe he will change and maybe he will fight for you and maybe it will be worth giving him that chance.”
You scrunch your face up and slowly shake your head, “I can’t.”
“You don’t have to,” he says as he squeezes your arms, “it’s just, I can see that you love him and as much as I don’t like him or the idea of you going back to him, he really loves you too – it would be a shame if you both spend the rest of your lives longing for each other when you could just be together.”
“What would you do?” You ask. You place your palms against his chest and you lean your chin on the top of your hands. “If you were in my place.”
He blinks and he stares at you for a long moment.
“I would just focus on myself for now,” he mumbles. He reaches his hand out to touch your hair, running his fingers through it, “I would find things that I enjoy doing – not what I was forced to enjoy.”
You look down and sigh.
“I would try out new things, focus on school and I know that you will snatch that diploma, I’d get the hell out of here after that. Maybe in the future, you and Steve will find your way back to each other or maybe you will meet someone who will love you the way you deserve to be loved,” he says.
You’re met with a soft look in his eyes when you raise your head to face him again. You smile at him.
“You will snatch that diploma too, Eddie. I’ll help you.”
“I know you will,” he smiles.
“And then we should get out of here together – we should move to LA so you can become the rockstar that you’re meant to be. We can rent a place together, I always wanted to live with a friend.”
He laughs at your words but then he falls quiet and his eyes flash with something you can’t read.
“You know that might be a good idea.”
“I know it is.”
“Shit,” he chuckles, “we should actually do that.”
“Right?”
“Right,” he smiles.
“And what will you be?” He asks, turning his head to look at you as you lie back beside him.
You lick your lips and stare at the new poster on his ceiling. What do you want to be? Who do you want to be?
You furrow your brows in concentration, a weird feeling settles in your chest. You don’t know. You don’t know anything, it seems like. Who even are you?
“I-I’m not sure.”
Eddie can sense the stress you’re feeling, he takes your hand in his, “hey, it’s okay. You don’t have to know yet.”
“I just.. I don’t even know what I want, Eddie,” you whisper, “I don’t even know who I am.”
You turn back to him, your sad eyes meet his. He squeezes your hand.
“You’ll figure it out, I know you will and I’ll be there with you.”
You maintain eye contact and scoot closer to him as you turn on your side.
“You’re the best, Eddie.”
His eyes shift as he stares at you, he turns on his side as well, “nah, you are the best,” he smiles, tapping your nose the way he always does.
“Don’t tell Heather or Chrissy but you might be my new best friend.”
His eyes light up at your words and his smile widens, “only if you don’t tell Gareth and Jeff that you are my new best friend.”
Your eyes widen, a giggle falls from your lips, “your secret is safe with me.”
“Yours is safe with me too.”
“Pinky promise?” You ask as you hold your hand out to him.
He laughs and brings his hand up, hooking his pinky around yours, “pinky promise.”
You both fall silent as you look at each other with smiles on your faces.
“Shit, who would’ve thought that I’d ever have the queen of Hawkins High in my bed.”
“Shut up,” you laugh.
For the rest of the night, you and Eddie talk about your lives after high school, dreaming about things that might never happen but it doesn’t matter, all that matters is the laughs you both share. You watch Friday the 13th and continue passing the joint back and forth, only making each other laugh harder by making fun of the movie that isn’t even funny.
You are grateful for Eddie and for the love and kindness he is giving you. He has become your little beacon of hope. He is the one who makes you laugh now, he is the one who holds you when you need it the most, he is the friend that everything feels so natural with – even falling asleep in his arms when you’re in nothing but panties and his shirt. You wouldn’t have done that with any other guy but he makes you feel safe.
When you wake up in his arms the next morning, you feel lost and confused for a second. His arms are wrapped around your waist and your head is on his chest, you can hear his heartbeat. For a moment, you thought you were somewhere else, in someone else’s arms but when you open your eyes and you are met with Eddie’s sleeping face, you relax a little.
You can’t help but smile as you look at him.
If Steve didn’t dump you, you wouldn’t be here. You would be in his bed right now. But you wouldn’t feel his arms around you, you wouldn’t feel his warmth, you wouldn’t feel him. You would wake up to a harsh reality, one where you continuously lied to yourself in order to keep him and to keep yourself happy. But were you ever happy?
You miss him, despite what happened, you still miss him.
But maybe it was for the better.
Maybe it had to happen this way.
You wouldn’t have Eddie now. You would have never become friends. And now, you wouldn’t trade this for anything in this world. This friendship has given you more than your relationship with Steve ever did.
Yet, you still need closure. You want answers and a peaceful conversation.
So you make the decision to try it. To try and talk and sort things out. You let go of him but there are still so many things that you don’t understand, things that will never give you if you don’t sit down and have that much needed conversation with him.
When you show up at his house, later that night. You didn’t expect to see his parents' car in the driveway, next to his. You stand in the darkness for a moment, contemplating whether you should actually ring the doorbell or not. The lights are on in the kitchen and in the dining room.
What if she is here?
What if they are having dinner together?
Is she sitting in your spot now?
Does his mom like her the way she always liked you?
Does his dad hug her the way he hugged you whenever he saw you?
You close your eyes and you take a deep breath, inhaling the cold air. You try to calm your heartbeat. Was it a good idea to come here? What if he doesn’t want to see you? What if–
You open your eyes and walk up the stairs, you ring the doorbell before your mind can convince you to turn on your heel and run. You can hear the faint sound of music in the house.
You dig your nails into your palms as you grow more and more nervous. You bounce your knee and stare down at the snow beneath your boots.
The door opens and you raise your head, for some reason you had expected Steve’s dad to open the door but instead it’s him. You watch as his eyes widen, they lighten up a little but they also flash with confusion.
“Hi, can we talk?”
Chapter 14
The manor was quiet as the sun crept in. The wolves returned to their rooms in the basement, getting breakfast and resting. Most of Reed’s men were upstairs sleeping after searching all night, Hudson included. He worried about you, hoping you found a place for the night, as he dozed off.
It was nine am when Reed arrived home. He waltzed right in and went straight for Hudson’s room. He burst through the door, scaring Hudson awake.
“Sleeping are we?” He was angry. “What the fuck did you tell her?”
“Nothing I swear.” Hudson insisted, sitting up and shaking his head.
“Then why are my men telling me she’s gone? I asked you to stay away from her. You helped her escape, didn’t you?” Reed snatched him up by the collar of his shirt.
“No. Reed, I swear. I didn’t. She slipped out just before nightfall. The guards were watching her. I stayed away like you asked.” Hudson’s voice trembled as he assured his brother.
“If I find out you had anything to do with this….” Reed threatened.
He let go of Hudson with a push, making him fall back on the bed.
“Get up, we’re going looking for her.” Reed headed for the hall.
“We looked all night. All the way to town, and then around town.” Hudson said.
Reed came back into his room, getting in Hudson’s face. “If you wanted our sister back, you would have looked harder. Instead of laying here sleeping.”
“Even if you get her back, if she finds out the truth….she’ll just leave again.” Hudson said…more to himself but Reed heard him.
Reed was quick to slap Hudson across the face. “Did you forget who saved you from a life of poverty?”
“No, sir.”
“I’m not weak like father was. Remember that.” And then Reed was off.
Morning came and you all went to breakfast at a diner nearby after checking out of the motel. Hyunjin insisted on getting a meal before hitting the road, instead of just having snack foods. Minho wanted to get back home but gave in after Hyunjin and Felix pouted at him, hugging his arms and pleading for hot food.
The Enha pack joined in, and you got to know them a bit more as you all chatted in the booth of the diner. It didn’t take long for the food to come out, but you were starving. You couldn’t remember the last time you ate, so you eagerly dug in. The food was good, but you missed Minho’s cooking.
You looked over to him, noticing his tense posture and the way he kept eyeing everyone in here. The way he kept scanning the parking lot out the window while everyone was lost in conversation, laughing and talking amongst each other. Minho was still keeping watch and somehow you knew he wouldn’t relax until you were back at Greenridge. Hell, he might not even relax then.
You felt guilty. Had you made things worse by running off to save Chan? Maybe the issues at hand would have occurred regardless? You chew your lower lip, wondering what you could do to resolve the problem. You couldn’t just sit back and let them do everything.
“What’s on your mind?” Hyunjin asked, interrupting your thoughts as he leaned over.
“Nothing.” You force a smile.
“You're chewing your lip, staring out in space. You're thinking hard about something...”
You blush. “Just worrying about Chan…”
“He will be fine. We will get him out.” He squeezes your hand.
“How?”
“Later. Let’s just enjoy breakfast.” Hyunjin smiles, taking a bite of your toast.
“Hey!” you say, making him smile.
Over the course of the meal, you also relaxed around Alpha Jungwon and his men as the two packs were sitting intermingled. Heeseung was his second in command and the only other alpha in the group - the rest were betas.
It was nice to see the friendships between everyone. You had never had friends before, and it was something you were hoping to have one day. Maybe even with them someday. Or the other two packs that stayed behind to watch over the house (and be there in case you or the others had come home).
Back in the car, Minho declared another three hours worth of driving before they would arrive home. A few of the members groaned, wanting to be there already. HA headquarters had been nearly six hours away from Greenridge, Blackmane Manor being a little farther. They had driven up most of the way before Jisung had finally hacked his way in and found the address to Blackmane. As for the drive last night, Minho only got halfway home before stopping to rest. Had he not been so tired, he probably would have driven the whole way.
Changbin insisted on driving, allowing Minho a break. He didn’t rest well last night, nor the past week, so Minho agreed and tried to nap while they drove. You were in the way back of the suv, between Jeongin and Minho. In the middle row, Jisung and Felix were video gaming together on their switches while Seungmin drowned them out with his headphones. Hyunjin was in the passenger seat, being a DJ and rapping along to the songs. It made you giggle as you watched, Changbin just shaking his head at him.
After filling up the tank and getting on the road, Minho laid his head on your shoulder. You peeked over as best you could, seeing him resting. You smiled to yourself, resting your head on his. He snaked an arm across your waist, holding you close. Every time he touches you, you swear your mark tingles a little - it was as if it was doing a little happy dance. It wasn’t long before you both were asleep, Jeongin sneaking a photo of you two.
In his cell, Chan was alternating between pushups and crunches. He’d been doing it for the last forty five minutes. He was growing restless and agitated, losing track of the days without a window telling him whether it was light or dark out. He huffed, pacing his room once more as he went stir crazy.
“How are we feeling today, Mr. Bang?” a man’s voice echoed in the hall.
Chan stopped, staring at the door until the man came into view. He was flanked by a security officer.
“Finally!” Chan spoke, throwing a shirt on and coming to the gate. “He was here. My brother’s killer was here, taunting me.”
“Was he now? When?” the man raised an eyebrow at him.
“The first day I was put in a cell. It had to be within the first hour. Please, go look at the cameras.”
“And why would I believe a damn thing you say? Prisoners will say anything to get out, true or not.”
“I swear to god. I’m not lying. I wouldn’t kill anyone to improve my ranking. I was framed.”
“So you said in your statement.” The guy rolled his eyes.
“You’ve gotta believe me, man. I’m not a murderer.”
“And now you’re going to insult me, lying to my face?” the man scoffed. “Did you or did you not kill Hayes and Milo Carver?”
Chan clenched his jaw.
“That’s what I thought.”
“That was different, sir. It was in self-defense. They had me chained and were torturing me.” Chan explained.
“Something you also said in your statement.” he said in an annoyed tone.
Chan rolled his eyes, shaking his head with a smirk.
“I’m not here to rehash your statement. I’m here to bring you before the judge.”
“Now?”
“Yep. Hope your lawyer is ready.”
“I don’t have a lawyer.”
“Shame.”
The man unlocked the gate, the officer handcuffing Chan’s wrists in front of him. Then he yanked him forward and guided him back to the courtroom he gave his statement in. Chan walked through the doorway and a tunnel (created by the seating above) and into the inner circle. He noticed the circular room was more populated now.
It had the panel of judges and a jury section to the right that were elevated about ten feet in the air. Chan noticed behind him was the audience section, set at the same height as the panel - it was an intimidation tactic the HA used in all their courtrooms.
He didn’t see any familiar faces as they all looked down on him from above. Did his pack not know about the trial either? What else were they not sharing?
Chan took his place behind a desk facing the panel. There was another desk, accompanied by a man in a suit who didn’t even bother to look over at him. Chan rolled his shoulders as the security officer connected his cuffs to the desk.
“Defendant Christopher Bang,” the head judge began, silencing the muffled chatter in the room.
“Y-yes, sir.” Chan pushed his shoulder back, standing tall and confident.
“Do you have a lawyer?”
“Uh, no sir.”
“Very well,” he grumbled.
Was that a smirk on his face Chan saw?
“You’ve been charged with three counts of first degree murder. How do you plead?” the judge on the right asks.
“Uh, not guilty… to one of them.” Chan says.
The jury mumbles at this.
“I see. And which one is that, Mr. Bang?”
“The murder of Aiden Bang, your honor.”
“You’re claiming you did not kill Aiden Bang?” the one on the left asks.
“No, your honor. He was my older brother who I loved dearly and looked up to. I was ready to be under his Alpha command. He was murdered before my eyes, but the man left before anyone else showed up. When they finally found us, I was covered in his blood from trying to stop the bleeding. When I failed with that, I held him in my arms as he gave his final breath. That is why I had his blood all over me.”
“And who was this man that you believe murdered your brother?” the one on the left questioned.
“I don’t know his name. But he was here. He visited me in my cell.”
“Mr. Bang, you’ve been in solitary confinement for the past week. No one has been allowed to visit you. You’ve only been served food by our employees. Are you insinuating-”
“It was when I was in the holding cell. I hadn’t been moved to solitary yet.” Chan clarified.
“Did you see the man?”
“On the night in question, yes. From my holding cell, no. But I knew his voice.”
“Objection! He can’t know for sure it was him if he didn’t see him. He could be making that up to frame someone.” The man in the suit finally spoke, rising from his chair.
“Mister….Blake? Is that correct?” asked the head judge.
“Griffin Blake, yes. Of the Blackmane pack.” Griffin spoke, adjusting his suit.
Chan whipped his head to look at the man. He didn’t recognize him, nor did he understand why a member of Blackmane was against him when they helped rescue him.
“What brings you here?” the judge on the right asked.
“I’m here for justice. I was there the night he murder Hayes and Milo Carver.”
“You witnessed the murders?”
“Not first hand, your honor. My Alpha and I, with a few other pack members, had just arrived on scene. We helped to release his pack members and when we came around the corner to the supposed torture room, he was standing there. Blood was spattered on him and the walls. The two men were lying dead on the floor.” Griffin glared over at Chan.
“Is this true, Mr. Bang?”
“I never said I didn’t kill the two of them. But I acted in self defense. The two of them had been torturing me for nearly three days.”
The judges exchanged looks.
“We will look into the camera footage regarding your holding cell. Then we will make a decision, along with the jury, of whether or not to change the charges from three counts to two.” the main judge informed him.
“Thank you sir.” Chan bowed his head.
“Is there anyone we should contact who was there the night your brother was killed?”
“There was no other witness that I know of.” Chan swallows.
“Very well. Dismissed.”
Changbin finally pulled up at the manor, relieved to finally be back home. He turned off the car, everyone moving to get out. You had slept for over an hour before waking up but Minho had just woken up about thirty minutes ago.
You finally climbed out from the back, stretching before Seungmin snuck up behind you and swept you off your feet, spinning you around. You yelped before giggling. He spun you a few times, a big carefree smile on his face.
“Okay, put me down.” you laughed.
He put you down, smiling at you whilst tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. You smiled back, biting your lip. He stepped closer and you hoped he would kiss you. Maybe you should kiss him.
You could feel his warm breath on your skin, hear his heart rate speeding up. You looked down to his lips….wow did they look soft. You looked back up to his eyes which were hooded as he looked at your lips. You leaned forward, ever so slightly.
“Hey guys. Welcome back!” a man’s voice rang out.
You jumped, the interruption breaking the lust bubble you two had just been in. You noticed over a dozen people coming towards you all. There were a lot of people - a lot of smells - and you subtly moved to stand behind Seungmin.
“It’s alright. They’re friends.” Seungmin comforted, taking your hand in his.
You smile, grateful for the physical contact. You were still getting used to new people. And new smells. And large groups of people. You just got used to the Enha pack, now there were several more for you to get acquainted with. As you look at everyone, you realize you knew a few of them from before you ran off to the Nyko house.
“You must be y/n. We’ve heard a lot about you.” one of the new faces says. He was flanked by a couple other unfamiliar faces.
You blush, knowing most of what he heard probably wasn’t good.
“I’m Jaebeom. We are happy you got back safely. Minho called us and let us know when they found you. What luck that you were walking in the street that night.”
You nod, forcing a smile as you shake his outstretched hand.
“Hey you wanna go get settled in your room?” Seungmin asks, noticing your discomfort.
You nod, squeezing his hand inconspicuously.
“We will catch up with you guys later. She really wants to shower after everything.”
“Of course.” Jaebeom smiles.
Seungmin leads you off towards the house as some of the others bring in their luggage.
“How was the drive?” You hear Jaebeom ask as you walk off.
You get up into your room, your shoulders relaxing even more at the comfort of your nest.
“Feel better already, huh?” Seungmin asks, leaning against the doorframe.
You nod excitedly. “So much. I didn’t realize how much I would miss my nest.”
“Oh yeah. Nests are crucial for your comfort and security.” Seungmin says, pushing off the frame. “I’ll leave you to shower and settle.”
You nod, taking in your room and its smells. “Oh! Seungmin…”
“Hmm?”
You walk over to Seungmin, lightly kissing him on the lips. Your stomach did flips, butterflies all over, as you moved your lips with his. His arms wrap around your waist, pulling you flush with him as he kisses you back. His tongue swipes your lips, pleading for them to part and grant him access. You let him, intertwining your tongues as you get lost in the kiss.
If it wasn’t for the sudden commotion downstairs, you would have kept going. The laughs and chatter downstairs broke the bubble once more, reminding you to come up for air. You pant, your palms against his chest as you ground yourself.
“Can’t believe I waited so long to do that…” he says breathlessly.
You giggle.
“Go settle in. I’ll see you in a bit.” He kisses your forehead before walking out of your room.
You took in your room one last time before retreating to your bathroom and taking a shower. It was so relaxing to finally shower in your own shower again. You took longer than normal since you didn’t want to leave the warmth.
After getting out and dressed in your own clothes, you open your bedroom door. You go back into the bathroom, putting some lotion on and a few spritz of perfume before coming back out of your bathroom.
“He kissed you, didn’t he?”
You jumped, only to find Jisung standing there. “Maybe.... Jealous?”
“Yes.” He pouted.
“You could ask for one, you know…” you wink at him.
He blushes, his ears going red as he looks away. “I know.”
With that, he turns from your room and heads to his own, leaving you dumbstruck. You would have kissed him right then if he had asked. So why didn’t he? You groan, going to his room.
“Why aren’t you asking?”
Jisung shrugged, making you pout.
“If you want to kiss me so bad you could ask me, you know…” Jisung mocks as he digs through drawers in his dresser and throws some clothes on the bed.
You give him a glare, to which he just laughs.
“You’re cute when you’re mad.” he says. “Now are you here to watch me strip or can I shower?”
You roll your eyes, shutting the door as you exit. You make your way downstairs, finding an array of people sitting around. You get uncomfortable and turn to go back upstairs.
“Ah ah ah…. No running away. You’re safe here. They are good people.” It was Changbin, spinning you around and making you come into the kitchen.
“There she is!” Jungwon cheered, joined by everyone.
You grew embarrassed, hiding your face in Changbin’s chest. Why were they all cheering for you?
“We made food so please come eat.” Woozi said, coming to grab your hand and take you over to the spread on the island.
Your stomach growled in response, making you realize how hungry you really were. So you reluctantly let them feed you, filling a plate with food. Hyunjin sat next to you, helping you eat some of it. You were grateful for his never ending appetite - him and Changbin as they nibbled off your plate before getting their own.
After eating, the packs decided to go home to refresh themselves. They would regroup soon to find a way to get Chan out, but for now it was good to get some quality pack time. And now that the house was quieter, Minho insisted on the rundown of everything that happened. So you told them. But first you apologized for running off and worrying them.
Then you told them how you snuck downstairs only to find Lewis dead. How you passed out and woke up in a hotel. How you found out Reed was your eldest brother.
“I thought you had a younger brother.” Jeongin says.
“I do, his name is Hudson.” you say. “I didn’t know about Reed. But apparently my parents sold him off, just like me.”
“And you believed him?”
“He knew a lot of facts…” you shrugged. “Some he couldn’t know unless he was telling the truth.”
The boys exchanged looks but didn’t say anything more.
So you told him what he told you about Chan and how they were sent to HA for their statements. Hyunjin and Jisung confirmed that did in fact happen, but they didn’t get the guy’s name. They also told you the girl who was your old cell neighbor was named Piper, and that she said Lewis sold off the omega male to a pack in Montana.
You were wondering why Reed only mentioned Piper, but that made sense. What didn’t make sense was why Lewis sold an omega in the first place, but it was irrelevant now.
You proceeded to tell them that he brought you to HA for your statement, then you both left promptly after and returned to his manor.
“Wait, so you were at his place the whole week?” Changbin asked.
“Yes…against my will. He kept promising to take me home but all I got were excuses.” you rolled your eyes.
“Do you know about the wolves he had?”
“They are his night patrol. He believes they are more loyal apparently. He only lets them out at night I guess, otherwise they are in their own sort of cell.” You tell them.
“Interesting.” Changbin ponders.
“Yeah, they nearly bit off Changbin’s leg.” Seungmin states.
“What?!” You sit up straighter.
“We were trying to rescue you and jumped the fence. But we couldn’t get to the house because they came running. Worked out though since you weren’t even there.” Minho shrugged.
“So then what?” Felix asked you.
You tell them about Hudson. And how you escaped. You tell them about the bar and how Hudson helped you get out. They were shocked to learn he was there but happy that you got to see him.
Once they were caught up, they caught you up with their side. How they were collecting allies. How the three of them were in a car accident on the way home, thanks to Lewis. It panged your heart to hear that they were going through this.
They told you about how they went to get you from Lewis, only to find dead bodies and an empty house. They told you about how they followed the Blackmane clue to HA and how they begged to see Chan. And they explained why he was stuck there, Minho explaining Chan’s past.
It made you mad to know that Chan was locked up with no visitors while they worked the trial. Or that they wouldn’t believe him about his own brother. Jisung grabbed his laptop and began researching, sudden inspiration sparked.
“Hey guys, Chan had his first meeting with the judges today.” Jisung furrowed his brow as everyone listened intently. “He was charged with three counts of first degree murder. But they are reviewing evidence and will see if it drops to two charges.”
Minho sighed, rubbing his temples.
“Maybe we can communicate with him through his lawyer.” Felix suggested.
“It says here he represented himself.” Jisung said.
“Why would he do that?” Hyunjin asked.
“Maybe they didn’t let him have a lawyer.” Jeongin shrugged.
“So we send a lawyer his way, with a message from us.” Seungmin suggests. “They can’t turn down a lawyer.”
“Good idea. Find him a good one too. He’s going to need it.” Minho instructs Jisung, who spends the rest of the evening doing that.
That night, you were eager to sleep in your own bed. Your nest had been calling your name all day, the blankets and pillows galore. You piled some blankets and pillows on your bed, grabbing one of the books from your library. Is it a library if there’s only five books so far? You already read one, so you started a new one. You only managed five pages, however, before you fell asleep.
It was hours later when you woke up, realizing your door was still cracked open and your lamp was on. You got up, put your book on the nightstand, and turned off your lamp. You walked over to shut your door but stopped at the sound of whimpers. Who was that?
You walked into the hall, following the sound. It was coming from Felix’s room. You hadn’t seen much of him that day since returning home, Seungmin and Jeongin keeping you to themselves. Cautiously, you tried the handle, finding it unlocked.
You crept inside, closing the door behind you. Tiptoeing over, you look at the blonde boy. His sweet face was scrunched as if in pain, his lips pouting and his brows furrowed. He was jerking a little back and forth as if fighting off something in his sleep.
A gasp leaves your mouth when you hear him mumble your name. It was faint but you heard it. Was he dreaming about you?
You reach out and shake his shoulder gently. He doesn’t wake so you shake a little harder, whispering his name.
“Felix…”
“Mmm, what?” he jumped up. “Y/n? You’re here!?”
“Yes, I’m here.”
He pulled you into a desperate hug, squeezing you tight. You didn’t miss the twinkle of fear in his eyes as he did so. You returned the hug, rubbing his back soothingly. You two stayed like that for a moment before he spoke.
“I keep having this nightmare that you’re taken from us and we find you…dead.” he whispers as he holds you close.
“Well, it’s just a bad dream. I’m very much alive.” you chuckle.
Felix pulls away and looks into your eyes. “W-would it be okay if you, um…would you want to-to stay? It’s fine if you don’t feel comfortable. I just-”
“Felix…” you say, cupping his face. “I would love to stay.”
He nodded, blushing.
Felix moves to lay down, opening the sheets for you. You climb in, back to him as you rest your head on his pillow. He lays the covers over you before laying down himself. He hesitates for a moment, before putting his arm around you and pulling you closer to him. You snuggle back into him, smiling to yourself. His scent was everywhere and it made you feel so comfortable and relaxed.
“Felix?”
“Hmmm?”
You turned in his arm, facing him. You look into his eyes, now a deep blue in the faint shine of the moonlight peeking through his curtains. You leaned forward, kissing him deeply. His arm tightened around your waist as he kissed you back. It was sweet and gentle but still had so much love and passion in it. Your tongues danced together as you rested your hand on the side of his neck.
You pulled away, smiling up at him. “I love you too.”
Felix smiled, rubbing his nose with yours briefly before kissing you again. He was floating after finally hearing you say it back.
After what felt like forever, you finally came up for air once more, turning in his arms so that he was spooning you again. He held you tight, the both of you falling asleep fairly quickly.
“Wake up, Mr. Bang.” a hoarse man’s voice interrupting his thoughts.
“I wasn’t asleep.” Chan says, sitting up from the bed.
“Step up.” the officer motioned for him to come forward.
Chan stepped up to the gate and offered his wrists. The guard opened the door of his cell and handcuffed his wrists.
“They made a decision already? Has it even been a day?”
The guard didn’t say anything. He continued to lead Chan down the hall, stopping before the end and bringing him into a room he hadn’t been in before.
Inside the room was a table and two chairs sitting opposite of each other. One chair had a man in a suit sitting there, a briefcase on the table.
Chan looked at him confused as the cop locked his handcuff to the notch on the table. Chan sat, waiting for the guard to leave.
“Good Afternoon, Mr. Bang.” the man spoke. “My name is Park Seojoon. I will be your attorney.”
“I didn’t think they were giving me a lawyer…”
“I was hired by Lee Minho. He told me to report here urgently for your case.” Seojoon placed a brown paper bag on the table. “Please eat.”
“How did he know?” Chan asked, eagerly opening the bag and seeing edible looking food for once.
“Your case has made the local news.” Seojoon pursed his lips.
“Oh great.” Chan groaned, running his hands through his hair.
“He also told me to give you this envelope.” The man passed him a padded envelope. “Now, everything you say is confidential. It stays between us. Whether you’re guilty or not, we will fight to remove or at least reduce the charges. So catch me up to speed.”
Chan spent the next hour giving Seojoon every detail he asked for, full honesty, as he ate his lunch. Seojoon felt confident in the case and getting him off with a mild punishment like probation.
“The last possible option you could do is a battle of the alphas. Prove your True Alpha status. If you killed your brother, you wouldn’t possess that strength.” Seojoon offered. “But let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.”
“Yeah, I’d rather it not.”
“Alright. Well, I will coordinate with the judges and be here for the next trial. We got this.” Seojoon fist bumped Chan.
Seojoon left and the guard came to return Chan to his cell.
Back in his cell, Chan opened the envelope and was pleased to find all of his pack wrote little notes. He smiled to himself, his heart warming.
Jisung: I miss you Chan Hyung. Don’t worry Hyunjin and I got home safely. We are working hard to free you. I can’t wait to have you home again. Love you! - x Ji
Seungmin: I need you to hurry up and get home. Being in charge of everyone is so much work. It’s exhausting honestly….I don’t know how you do it. Hurry home hyung. - Love Seungmin.
Changbin: I hope you at least stay in shape. You know how to do it without equipment! At least push ups, crunches, maybe bar raises if you can.
It was a little rough there for a minute but we are managing. So don’t worry about us - Minho and I got this. We miss you terribly. Love you, hope to see you soon. - Love Changbin.
Felix: Channie Hyung! I miss you! I’m going to try not to cry as I write this. Minho is taking such good care of us. Changbin too. So you don’t have to worry about us. We are in good hands. How are you? I hope you are eating well. I hope the guards aren’t being mean to you. Are you resting? Please rest!
Oh also, y/n is doing well! I’m sure you miss her a lot. She misses you a lot too. I found her in your room this morning sniffing a shirt you left behind. We had our first kiss last night! It was amazing! I probably shouldn’t be bragging… Sorry Hyung, I’m just so excited. Anyways, Minho is yelling at me to hurry up. I love you! I miss you! See you soon! - Love, Lixie XOXO
Hyunjin sent a drawing he made with a note attached saying: To make those cement walls a little less drab ;). - Love you!
Jeongin: Hyung! I’ve been getting better with my control! I haven’t had an outburst the whole time you’ve been gone. Despite all the stress, my training and everything you taught me is working. I’m sure the others are telling you it’s all good here and not to worry. And it is…finally. A lot has happened without you here. But this isn’t the way to tell you. Things are finally feeling normal again…as normal as can be without our alpha. Just know we are okay and fighting to bring you home. - Love Innie.
Minho: Felix is making everyone write a letter to you. I just wanted to give you an update via the lawyer that everything is good on our end…but Felix said I should say more. So…is this enough?
I have stuff to tell you but it’s better face to face…at least I hope it will be. It’s not bad…I guess… so don’t worry. I just…I’m taking care of everyone. I’m being the alpha you always knew I could be. Although I prefer being second in command…but for you…I’ll do this as long as I have to. I’m going to get you home. No Matter What. So just hang in there and know we are out here fighting for you. Okay…Felix said it’s long enough now. Love you. See you soon! - Minho
Chan smiled and laughed, occasionally wiping away some of the tears that fell as he read the notes from his mates. He missed them terribly, but was happy to see everything was okay on their end. He was so worried Lewis had done something…or his pack would in retaliation. And everyone said so much happened….he wondered what went down in his absence.
The last letter in the envelope was from you.
Hi Chan,
Channie…not really sure what to say. I miss you…a lot. I’m furious that I was there at the same time. If only I could have seen you before you were put in solitary. Just another hug or kiss…
Your scent is faint in your room. I miss it. I felt so safe and secure with you around. I don’t know how I went my whole life without you in it (or any of the boys). I feel safe with the boys too of course. :)
A lot has happened since you’ve been gone. I don’t want to burden you with all the details… Okay maybe one: I learned I had an older brother. I don’t know how I feel about him though. His name is Reed Kang. Apparently he’s the alpha to the Blackmane pack. They helped free you so maybe you met him already. I don’t know how I feel about him yet. I think there’s still a part of me that might feel he’s lying about our connection but I don’t know.
He found my little brother Hudson though! Hudson’s a part of his pack too. I wish he could join ours… but I don’t know how those things work. Or even if he would want that. So that’s a discussion for later.
Anyways, I miss you Channie. Come back soon! Especially because I really wanna say those three words to you…. - Love, y/n
Drive me home | Simon "Ghost" Riley | 2
fem!reader | In this story, a young woman mistakenly texts Simon "Ghost" Riley, thinking he's her Uber driver after a wild night out. Despite his gruff, reserved nature, Simon shows up. Contains fake screenshots with texts messages and calls!!!!
Part 1 | Part 3
The morning light cut through her curtains like knives, sharp and merciless, forcing her awake. She groaned, clutching her head, the pounding echoing from her temples down to her teeth. A full-blown hangover. Memories from the night before drifted in hazy fragments—drinks, her friends laughing, a text… and then…
She bolted upright, clutching her blanket, a flash of masked eyes and a black truck suddenly flooding her mind. Her stomach dropped.
Did I really let a stranger in a mask drive me home?
She staggered to the kitchen, pouring coffee with shaking hands, and tossed back an ibuprofen, hoping it would chase away the remnants of her dizziness and… her embarrassment. But as she sipped her coffee, the fog lifted, and memories came tumbling back.
Oh, God. The texts. She remembered asking him to drive faster, pleading with him to hurry. And then… had he really helped her into bed?
She scrambled for her phone, her fingers trembling as she typed.
She sent the message, cringing as she relived every second of her clinginess and imagined his unimpressed, masked face watching her stumble around like a mess. A minute later, her phone buzzed with his reply.
The bluntness of it hit her like a slap. She stared at the screen, heat creeping up her cheeks. Reckless? It was probably true, but coming from a guy who looked like… well, like he did?
Because, now that she thought of it, he was big. Broad shoulders and a looming presence, a voice that had sounded just a little rough even over text… She couldn’t remember much, but she remembered that.
Had she imagined it, or had she actually been driven home by a grumpy, masked hero who might, just might, be the most intriguing stranger she’d ever met?
Fueled by a sudden burst of boldness—maybe leftover tipsiness or maybe just the thrill of mystery—she fired back another text.
The minutes ticked by in silence. Her screen stayed blank, his silence practically echoing in her hand. He either didn’t want to answer or found her question annoying. With a huff, she threw her phone aside and went about her day, determined to let it go.
But her thoughts kept circling back, replaying the memory of his silent, masked face and those few brief words in her text thread. She was somehow still thinking about it as she finally gave up and messaged her best friend.
She winced, biting her lip as her fingers flew over her keyboard, spilling out the details.
She blinked, chewing her lip, feeling that thrill rise again as she recalled his rough voice and the way he’d scolded her this morning for being “reckless.”
She laughed, brushing it off. But as she glanced back at her phone and that blank screen, she felt her heart skip a beat. A stranger with a mask and a black truck. And maybe—just maybe—she hadn’t seen the last of him.
She stared at the screen, blinking a few times as if her phone might be playing tricks on her.
Of course, her friend was right. It wasn’t like her to sit back and wait. Normally, she would’ve already sent him a second, third, maybe even a fifth text, just to see if he’d reply. But this time, there was something about him. Something that screamed take it slow, like a quiet warning in the back of her mind.
The idea of calling him, asking him out, was tempting, especially after all the teasing messages from her friend. But she wasn’t drunk anymore. She was sober, and that made all the difference. He was… different. The whole night had felt surreal, like a dream she wasn’t sure she wanted to dive back into just yet.
Her fingers hovered over the screen, uncertainty making her heart race. Maybe it was a sign that she should take a step back, give it time. Maybe.
And then, as if the universe was trying to tell her something, her phone buzzed in her hand.
The notification popped up.
Her breath caught. It was just one word. His name. No explanation, no question. Just Simon. She stared at the text, her thoughts scrambling for meaning. Was he mad? Had he been ignoring her on purpose? Was this some sort of... invitation to keep going?
She sat there for a moment, phone in hand, as her thoughts ran wild. What do I say?
But there it was, the name. Simple. Straightforward. And all at once, the walls she’d been building around her emotions started to crumble. Maybe she wasn’t the only one unsure about what had happened. Maybe he, too, had questions.
She took a deep breath, deciding to take things one step at a time. For now, she would reply. But cautiously.
Her fingers hovered over the keyboard, but this time, she knew exactly what to say. She took a deep breath and started typing, choosing her words carefully, yet letting a hint of her usual humor shine through.
She hit send and immediately set her phone down, nervous laughter bubbling up as she replayed her words in her head. It was funny, sincere, and hopefully just enough to show him she wasn’t taking herself too seriously—but also that she wasn’t brushing off his help. She felt a mixture of gratitude and embarrassment swirling inside her, waiting, not knowing if he’d even reply.
Seconds dragged on, each one heightening her anticipation, but then—her phone buzzed.
She laughed, feeling a strange warmth at his message, despite the scolding tone she could practically hear in his words. He was blunt, yes, but he’d responded. She let her fingers dance over the keys again.
And just like that, a grin broke across her face.
With a little giggle, she changed his contact name and tossed her phone onto the couch beside her.
As she flopped down, staring up at the ceiling, she felt an unexpected rush of excitement bubbling up, like some teenager caught up in a silly crush. It was weird, she thought, the way one word, one text, could lift her mood like this.
Her cheeks warmed, and she let out a soft, embarrassed laugh at herself. What was it about this masked stranger that had her acting like this? She didn’t know, but for the first time in a long time, she let herself just enjoy the feeling.
"MORE THAN HALF THE TRIBUTES WANT YOU AS THEIR ALLIES."
Mags announced a few days later. You and Finnick were sitting across from her in the living room, a few inches apart. The tension in the atmosphere was suffocating, tethered to the interaction you'd had with Peeta in the training center a few days ago. You'd never seen Finnick so annoyed about something as silly as this before. The brief interaction with Peeta had been nothing but innocent — yet, it had Finnick grappling for something to say, spitting over remarks, and dismissing your presence for the last few days.
It annoyed you, you should've seen it coming sooner. Just when you'd thought that things were starting elucidated between the two of you again — just when you'd thought things were starting to heal, he'd taken three steps back. Just like he'd done the first time he'd broken things off with you.
"They saw her in the simulator room." Finnick's voice broke into your reverie, but you didn't bother to look at him. You knew what he was referring to; you'd overshadowed Katniss again, but this time you'd done it in the training center.
When she stepped inside one of the simulator rooms to practice her archery, she gathered a crowd outside the windows. You'd felt slightly threatened then, if you were being honest, but Johanna was quick to advise you in the moment. "Opaque her little show" she'd whispered into your ear and, despite you knowing better, you fell into her instigation and walked over to the rack where the tridents hung. You'd never been a fan of violence, but you were good with weapons. Your ability to swing the trident and aim for the heart had been acquired through fishing and watching Finnick practice for many hours back at home.
So, it was no surprise when you stepped inside the simulator room and astutely swung at the targets without missing a single one.
"Well, whatever the case was, you both are doing better than anyone else," Your stylist, Dean, congratulated from across the room. "So, now, you have your pick of the letter."
"We'll have Johanna." Finnick declared, and you nodded in silent agreement.
"Anyone else?" Mags signaled with her hands.
You chewed on the inside of your cheeks pensively. You tried hard to ignore the alliance that Peeta had established with you a few days ago. He'd labeled you as his friend and, you supposed, he wasn't so far off considering the past interactions you'd both shared. But you didn't dare to blurt that out into the open air, afraid that you might just ignite a fight or two with Finnick Odair.
So, instead, you decided to ask. "What about Beeta and Wires?"
Finnick pinched the bridge of his nose, in evident disapproval, but you ignored his gesture and crossed your arms over your chest.
"Anyone else?" Dean repeated, after taking note of your preferences.
"Katniss," Finnick added nonchalantly, and you couldn't help, but turn to glare at him. He pretended not to notice, but the faint grin that tugged at his lips stated otherwise.
"You have to be kidding me," You spat through your teeth, and Finnick feigned an innocent look on his face when he turned to you. "You do realize we were dragged into this mess to compete against them — not with them."
"Oh, yeah?" He quipped, narrowing his eyes at you. "Because it doesn't seem that way when you're drooling over Peeta, honey."
"I do not." You argued, growing frustrated.
"Then why are you always looking at him?"
You didn't reply for a moment. Finnick was right — these past few days, you'd found yourself looking at Peeta a lot more, but it wasn't in the way Finnick thought it was. You wanted to decipher Peeta Mellark, his gentleness and his persistence to approach you were conflicting to you. You weren't used to receiving such kindness, especially from other Victors, hence the reason you often found yourself looking at him. You wanted to break him down into pieces; just to make sense of him.
"He's kind to me," You eventually replied, to which Finnick only rolled his eyes. "You could learn something from him."
With a visible tick in his jaw, Finnick turned to face you again and you knew you'd hit a nail when his eyes darkened. "Oh?"
You pretended not to hear him.
"Okay, this — " Dean suddenly interjected, signaling you and Finnick back and forth with his finger. " — needs to stop before tonight's interview. I cannot have you both acting this way."
There was a moment of silence.
Dean signed audibly before offering you both a faint smile. "Besides, it is your wedding day."
Your muscles immediately froze at his words. And, for a moment, you could've sworn you heard the loud thumping of your heart against your chest. "What?" You managed to blurt out.
"Your wedding day," Dean repeated as though as if it were the most obvious thing before his face dropped when he saw the startled expression on both of your faces."Oh, you didn't know?"
Instinctively, you turned to face Finnick, but his expression reflected the same as yours — shocked. His eyebrows were pulled together, his gaze hard and calculating; as if he was almost trying to make sense of what Dean was saying.
"What are you talking about?" Finnick eventually questioned, and you almost winced at the hoarse sound of his voice.
"Snow will have someone come up to marry you in a few hours. He said you both had agreed to it." Dean explained, with an almost apologetic smile on his face. Instinctively, you turned to look at Mags for a little consolation, but she only dropped her gaze.
This was not part of the deal.
Snow'd never mentioned this in the agreement, but then again, you weren't surprised — he was President Snow, after all. And it made sense, you supposed, you were trying to one-up the lovers from District Twelve, and, since their wedding had to be canceled; it made sense for Snow to want you both to steal that advantage from them. Besides, you'd always assumed you would marry Finnick at some point in your life.
You just kind of wished it would've happened under other circumstances.
"You have to be fucking kidding me," Finnick cursed under his breath, raking a hand through his hair. "Do we even have a say in this?"
"I'm afraid not." Dean shook his head.
"Shit." Finnick hissed, pushing himself off the couch. You watched as he paced back and forth around the room for a while, and you couldn't help, but feel slightly conflicted with his reaction. It forced a feeling of uneasiness to retaliate in the pit of your stomach. You knew Finnick's love for you was complicated and sometimes even fleeting, but this reaction had your head spinning — perhaps, you'd read everything wrong.
"Is it so bad?" The words slipped out your mouth mindlessly, and the room grew immediately quiet at the mere sound of your voice. It was low yet vehement, it underlined the thinly veiled pain that settled over your features.
Is it so bad to marry me?
Stupidly, you were hoping for his assurance. For a word that could have quenched down the feeling of rejection that burrowed beneath your chest. But, instead, Finnick's silence answered you — it was deafening, and it forced a lump to form in your throat. He doesn't want to marry me, you thought to yourself. And the thought alone was enough to force you off the couch and back into your room.
"(Y/N), honey, don't — " Dean started, but his words froze on the tip of his tongue when you shut the door behind you with a loud thud.
"I look like a slut." You complained when you stepped out of the fitting room later that day and looked at your reflection in the mirror. You were wearing a mesmerizing dress — there was no doubt about that, but the liquid organza fabric that draped over your skin was barely visible (except for your undergarments) which left more than enough room for the imagination.
"Honey, that's the point," Dean replied, brushing a few strands of straight hair away from your face."Besides, you look stunning. The most beautiful bride I've ever seen before."
Subconsciously, your gaze dropped to stare at your left hand, where a beautiful ring rested over one of your fingers. You swallowed hard at the reminder that you were now married. Even if it'd taken everything in Finnick to sign the damn paper, even if he'd hesitated in slipping the ring on your finger — even if it wasn't real.
"I know this isn't the best timing," Dean suddenly reminded you, placing his hands over your shoulders in silent comfort. "But I want you to forget about everything tonight, okay? You need to forget about everything, darling. Remember why we're here for..."
You took a deep breath.
Remember why we're here for.
"You will talk about your wedding," Dean instructed you, dropping his voice down to a whisper. "You will talk about how deeply in love you're with Finnick Odair. You will talk about your ring and your future with him."
Your head was spinning again.
"Okay." You nodded before you were swiftly beckoned backstage. The room was dark and filled with most of the tributes, they were all lined up and waiting for Caesar Flickerman to interview them — and the mere sight of them made you sick to the stomach.
You'd been here before; in a different time and with different people, but the sight pained you all the same. It brought back memories that you'd hoped to diminish, to incarcerate in the back of your head and never set free. As much as you pretended to be okay with everything going around you, you knew that, deep down inside your chest, you were far from being fine.
And, somehow, Finnick did too.
"You okay?" Finnick whispered behind you, and your muscles tensed when his warm breath pressed against the skin of your neck.
"I'm fine," You limited yourself to answer.
But he wasn't convinced.
And, without a warning, he slid a comforting arm around your waist and traced arbitrarily patterns over the fabric of your dress with his thumb. You should've pushed him away, retaliated, and escaped his cursing touch, but you didn't. Instead, you subconsciously leaned against him — because it was the only way your heart wasn't hammering against your chest.
"Finnick Odair"
"Stay calm," Finnick encouraged, before pressing a fleeting kiss to the side of your head when he was instructed to stand by. "I'll be back soon."
You exhaled shakily, hating the way his lips pressed against your skin so nonchalantly. As if he hadn't just made it clear he didn't want you.
Remember why we're here for.
With a feigned smile on your face, you straightened your frame and nauseously waited for the curtains to part open.
Remember why we're here for.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please give a round of applause for Finnick Odair."
You watched as Finnick stepped on stage.
It never failed to amaze you how well Finnick masked his emotions under the limelight, and how fast he was able to shift from his normal demeanor to a hypnotizing one. He was unrecognizable, flashing his perfect teeth to the crowd and sweet-talking his way into their attention — as if he was happy to be there. You envied how good he could fake it.
"So, Finnick..." Caesar started, once the audience had settled down. "You are a married man now if I'm not mistaken. You're married to our beautiful — our darling, (Y/N) (Y/L/N)!"
"(Y/N) Odair," Finnick corrected, and Caesar let out an amusing laugh.
"I love it!" Caesar cheered and turned to face the crowd across from him. "Don't you love it?"
The crowd cheered. "Okay, now, Finnick, tell us, do you have any more plans that we might like to be aware of? So, we are not taken aback like we were with your wedding."
"Well — " Finnick's voice suddenly dropped, and the crowd went silent. Subconsciously, you held back your breath as you waited for his answer, confused. "We were trying for a baby."
You blinked.
Once. Twice. Three times.
"Oh, my god!" Caesar gasped, and the audience quickly copied his reaction. "This is exciting news, everybody! Finnick Odair and (Y/N) Odair — I love that she changed her name, by the way — are trying for a baby. How wonderful!"
The crowd cheered.
"If we win the games," Finnick clarified, a smile stretched across his face. It almost scared you, how convincing he could look. How easily you could've fallen for his lies if you didn't know any better. "We'll have a baby on our way."
Your mouth fell agape.
For a moment, you couldn't believe what you were hearing. Finnick was promising a baby — a fucking baby, to the people of Panem. Your head reeled with the sudden possibility of that happening. If you were to win the games, what would you even do? Would you continue with this farce of a marriage? Go home and carry his child? And endure his resentment?
Was he even okay with that?
What the hell was he thinking?
"By the look on your face, you don't seem too content with this news spreading around," Peeta suddenly whispered, and you instinctively flinched at the unexpected sound of his voice.
"Are you really trying to have a baby?"
"I — " You started, but the faint smirk that itched his lips made you pause. He was teasing you, you realized, but, at the moment, it seemed as if everyone in the room was suddenly looking at you. So, you decided to continue with the lie. " — We are. In fact, I could be pregnant."
Peeta raised an eyebrow. "Really?
Your shoulders tensed. "Ern — yeah."
"You don't say."
You chewed on the inside of your cheeks. "Yeah."
"Well, why aren't you?" Peeta questioned, and you nibbled your bottom lip as you tried to come up with something to say. But Peeta was making it hard for you to concentrate, especially when he was looking at you as if he'd finally decipher you.
As if he'd suddenly understood something.
"That's none of your business." You argued, trying to hide the hesitation in your words.
"Maybe," Peeta continued, but there was a subtle change in his tone when he spoke again. "But...if you plan to win the games through a pregnancy and your husband can't seem to get the job done — " He paused, dropping his gaze down to look at the ring on your finger. "— well, I guess, you know where to find me."
To say you were shocked was an understatement. You were stunned, frozen in place when his words registered inside your brain. For a moment, you simply stared at him with wide eyes and a dumbfounded look on your face.
"Cause' we're friends, right?" Peeta quipped, and your cheeks ridiculously burned.
"Give it up for Finnick Odair, everyone!"
You opened your mouth to say something — anything, but the words quickly died inside your mouth. For the first time in a while, you were lost for words. And, soon after, your name was being called and you were instructed to stand by.
All while Peeta grinned at you.
"You should've told me about the baby."
Was the first thing that came out of your mouth when the elevator's doors shut closed. To your surprise, there was no one else inside, but Finnick and you. He was irked, it was more than evident, that his plan to up-one the lovers from District Twelve had gone awry after Peeta had decided to blurt out that Katniss was supposedly pregnant in front of the entire audience during his interview.
Which, you found quite hypocritical, due to reasons you could not tell Finnick about.
Finnick audibly sighed. "I know."
"I would've come up with a much better story," You continued, leaning against the glass tiredly. It was unfair, you thought to yourself, the whole situation in which the two of you were tethered to. One wrong move and Snow's promise to keep you both alive could shatter within seconds. "We should've said I was already pregnant." You mumbled, mostly to yourself, but Finnick's head turned towards your direction at that.
"Would you have gotten pregnant?" Finnick questioned, with a general air of curiosity in his voice and you froze. "If Snow had wanted us to?"
You didn't say anything for a few seconds.
Instead, you thought about that alternative; you thought about how miserable Finnick's life would've turned out if having a baby was the necessary case. You thought about what he'd first said when he'd broke things off with you a few months ago. You thought about how hard it was for him to sign the marriage papers. You thought about how much he didn't want to be with you.
"No." You eventually answered, and you could've sworn you saw him wince at the even sound of your voice. "I wouldn't have allowed that to haunt you. A marriage was more than enough."
And then the doors parted and you stepped out of the elevator without another word. But, before you could even reach your room and lock yourself away, his hand latched onto your wrist and you were pulled back without a warning.
"What do you mean by that?" Finnick narrowed his eyes when you turned back to face him.
You withdrew your wrist from his touch. "You know exactly what I mean, Finnick."
"What?" Finnick's eyes darkened as he slowly processed your words. The intensity in his gaze made you swallow hard, but you refused to look away from him — you didn't want to, somehow, you thought it would make you smaller. "You think a child with you would haunt me? You think marrying you torments me?"
Your lips can't help but twitch in slight amusement. "We both know it does."
Finnick looked taken aback and, for a few seconds, you both stared at each other in silence.
"I don't blame you," You eventually continued, trying to quench down the tension in the room. "I know it's complicated for you to have to act like you still love me. And...I know you didn't want to marry me, I suppose you're in the right. And — God, I know you wouldn't want to have a baby with me, but — "
"— what the hell are you talking about?" Finnick interjected as his voice raised a few decibels. "(Y/N), what the actual fuck are you talking about?"
You knew his oblivion shouldn't have riled you up. You knew his cluelessness shouldn't have made your blood boil. But, you couldn't help it because he had to be playing dumb, right? How else could you have possibly interpreted his actions?
"Stop acting like I'm crazy, Finnick!" You spat through your teeth, feeling your face heat up.
"You're not, baby!" Finnick argued, trying to stifle the humorless smile on his face from stretching. "But you're not making any sense."
"I'm not making sense?" You scoffed, shaking your head in disbelief. "You're the one who's driving me crazy, Finnick. And I'm so fucking tired of trying to decipher you."
He blinked, trying to grasp your words. But the mere expression of confusion on his face stated that he was, in fact, oblivious.
"One day you're making love to me and the next you're pretending nothing ever happened," You explained, exhaling shakily. "One day you're saying that you love me and the next you're acting like marrying me is the worse fucking thing in the world. But two hours later, you're telling Panem that you can't wait to have a child with me. That if we win the games, we'll have children of our own."
Your words stung and forced your eyes to gloss with unshed tears, but you refused to let them spill. You didn't want to cry in front of him. "And I'm exhausted," You added in a whisper. "I don't know what to think anymore. Because what happens if, by some miracle, we do win the games, Finnick? What happens then?"
Your question made him swallow.
"What happens if we do come back and Snow wants us to have a child?" You challenged, taking a deliberate step towards him. "Would you think of our family as something silly? Would the thought alone make you want to let me go again?" His eyes narrowed as he remembered what he'd said to you in an argument a few days ago. "Or would you refuse to have a kid at the very last minute? Pretend like it's the worst fucking thing in the world too?"
Finnick opened his mouth to reply, but then something slipped out your mouth subconsciously and the whole room grew dangerously quiet. "Or would I have to seek someone else to do me the favor? Just so Snow could spare our fucking lives while you try to figure out if you want me or not in your life."
You knew you'd hit a nail before the last words even escaped your mouth. Finnick stared at you — hard as if he was almost trying to figure out whether you'd been serious or not. But when you didn't open your mouth to elaborate any further, his shoulders slumped in disbelief.
"You wouldn't." He paused, dragging a lengthy sigh out as he examined you carefully.
"It would surprise you," You breathed out, trying to keep yourself from falling apart. "the things I'll do to keep you alive."
Finnick didn't know about Peeta or his suggestion to you. He didn't know that you'd considered — for a split second, to take his offer. Although Peeta was teasing, you knew that the thinly veiled insinuation was there. And, if you were to walk into his room, he would've opened the door and let you in without a doubt.
And, for some reason, you didn't hate the idea as much as you should've had.
And Finnick didn't know any of that. But, under his gaze and the burning hue in his green irises — it almost seemed as if he did. And, subconsciously, you embraced yourself for the worst: for an argument, an accusation — anything that could've broken your heart.
But, instead, Finnick whispered. "Please don't."
And your stomach dropped at the teary sound of his voice...because you weren't expecting it. "I don't think I would be able to survive that."
Your mouth went dry. "What — "
"— No, (Y/N), you don't understand," He interrupted, sliding a hand behind your neck to gently stop you. "I can survive Snow, I can survive the games — God, I can survive being sold off to the whole Capitol. But, please, don't ask me to watch you have somebody else's baby — our baby, please don't believe that for a second that I could ever be at peace with that."
"Then be with me." You exhaled, but it almost sounded like a pled as you rested your forehead against his and he shut his eyes tightly. As if he was almost debating over the matter in his own head. "Please, baby."
Your heart sank when he shook his head.
"I can't do that to you, (Y/N)," Finnick whispered, and for a moment, you weren't sure as to what he was referring to this time. Was it the marriage? The children? The punishment Snow had haunted him with? Or was it the games? You weren’t quite sure.
"We could win the games."
"No, baby," Finnick kissed your forehead and you exhaled audibly. "There are no winners."
He was right.
And, although you should've been mad at him — the anger quickly diminished when he wrapped his arms around you. You knew you should’ve pushed him away and turn the other way, but you didn’t. Because, despite everything, you still loved him and that night would be the last before the games — before the massacre.
And you didn't want to lose him just yet.
"Could you sleep with me tonight?" You whispered against his neck and his arms tightened a little more around your body.
"Always."
It was somewhere in the middle of the night when you woke up to the sound of muffled voices outside your bedroom. You opened your eyes to find the door slightly parted and the light from the hallway streaming in through the gap. Instinctively, you pushed onto your elbows and turned to the other side of the bed, but you were more than surprised to find the space empty.
Finnick was gone.
Confused, you made to toss the blankets aside and climb out of bed to look for him, but your muscles momentarily froze when you registered a familiar voice outside your door.
“You can’t speak of this, Finnick,” Haymich whispered, and the urgent sound of his voice forced a shiver to run down your spine. “It’s too dangerous, especially with Snow watching her.”
“I need to tell her, Haymich.” You heard Finnick reply, but his voice was quiet, barely audible.
“It’s for the best. If you want to protect her.”
Then silence ensued for a few minutes and the lights eventually shut off. Immediately, you laid back on your pillows and tossed to the other side of the bed to pretend you were sleeping. Until the other side of the bed deepened with the weight of Finnick and an arm wrapped around your waist.
For a few minutes, you lay there quietly as Finnick fell asleep; wondering what the hell Haymich and Finnick were talking about.
Soooooo, this chapter was longeeeer, but I do apologize for the wait, I’ve been busy with schoooool😫 Anywho, I’m wondering what team are you guys on?
Team Peeta or Team Finnick?
Hello!! I love your Korra X readers so I’m just gonna ask if you could do a Korra x Fem!reader (or GN up to you!) with the cliche plot of Reader being injured and not telling anyone until later? Hope you are doing well!!
YURR lets go. I initially wrote this as a fem!reader, but I didn't even use the reader's pronouns in this so, gender neutral reader it is!
Kiss It Better | Korra x Beifong!Reader
╰┈➤ PLOT: With your girlfriend saving the world all the time, you take it as your job to not worry her with your own problems. If you needed help with something, you'd figure it out or get someone else's help. What happens when your "selflessness" nearly costs you an arm?
╰┈➤ WARNING: Injured!Reader, Suggestive Mentions, Cursing, Not Proofread, Beifong!Reader
⍣ ೋ Enjoy!⍣ ೋ
It was a simple fracture. You were training with Bolin and a cluster of Earth hit you too hard in the arm. Bolin apologized and even offered to take you to the infirmary, but you rejected him.
One, you were a Beifong; you don't get hurt. Two, if you go to the infirmary, chances are you'll get a cast or some sort of sling. That'll worry your girlfriend, the Avatar, and with all the duties she had to attend to, your fractured arm was the least of her worries.
"Oh, fuck," you hissed, leaning back into your plush sofa. Typically, the plush cushions and fuzzy fabric would comfort you. The cushions would allow your muscles to relax and for your body to find comfort in the warm snuggles of your girlfriend's blanket. But now, the cushions only make your body hurt worse.
There was no support in the cushions. The plushiness was too plushy and the warm comfort typically found within the blanket was annoying.
"I'm home!" Korra announced. The woman kicked off her boots, put up her short hair, and plopped beside you on the couch.
You groaned, holding your bicep.
Korra tilted her head, raising a brow. "Hey, you okay? Was I too loud or something?"
Time slowed as you forced a laugh out of your chest. If you laughed too hard, your arm would ache. If you didn't laugh enough, Korra would assume something was wrong.
Nothing was wrong. At least, to her knowledge.
"Oh, sorry!" you smiled at her, "I was actually practicing this new joke Mako taught me. I was supposed to make this sound, but I guess I haven't mastered it yet."
"Oh... haha," Korra forced out of her. "No more taking joke suggestions from Mako. He doesn't have a funny bone in his body." The Avatar nestled her head on your chest. She hummed, snuggling into the warmth of your body.
"Right," you chewed on your lip. "I don't know what I was thinking."
-
"One, hit! Two, hit! Three--!"
"Okay!" you howled. You and Bolin have been training for three hours straight now. Something must've inspired Bolin because he's been sending over disks, boulders, and other forms of Earth toward you like there was no tomorrow. While he was losing pounds by sweating alone, your arm was screaming at you.
"Please stop moving me!" "I'm hurt!" "Why do you hate us?!"
You wished you could listen to your body. You really did. But you read somewhere that certain fractures can heal on their own with the proper rest and care.
You thought you could take it easy in training today, but obviously, Bolin had other plans.
"Oh," Bolin smiled, peeling himself away from his boxed stance. "Did I go too far? Sorry. Opal said something last night about guys working out and how she loved watching me train sometimes, so I wanted to work extra hard this practice so I wouldn't feel bad for showing off."
Your chest heaved up and down as the boy spoke. The fire in your arm was excruciating and it was spreading to your shoulders.
You trudged along the training center, going to a lousy bench where your water bottle and workout towel lay. "No, no," you told Bolin, "it's okay. I just need a break. That's all."
Lowering yourself onto the bench, your muscles and all the meat on your body felt like falling off the bone like you were a tenderly cooked piece of chicken. Your thighs ached and shook, like after an endless night with Korra. You took your towel and slung it over your good arm. You carefully opened your water bottle to take a sip.
Bolin followed after, mindlessly yapping about Opal and how pretty she was. Once he sat himself next to you and drank from his water, his eyes bulged out of his head, and water sprayed from his mouth.,
You whipped your head toward him, perplexed. "Oh, my Spirits! What was that?"
"What happened to your arm?" the boy exclaimed. He pointed at the swollen and bruised skin. Your rotator cuff was a deep purple with blue specs. He couldn't see it, but the bruising gave a pulsing sensation.
You scoffed and went for another sip of water. "Nothing. Just bumped into a pole."
"What kind of pole hit you like that?" he exclaimed again, now out of his seat. His green eyes were now filled with fear; his body trembled with worry.
You tried to shrug, but since your hurt arm was alarmingly tough and sore, only your good arm moved. "I don't know," you mumbled. "It was a while ago, I think. I can't really remember."
"Well, you have to at least let a nurse or someone qualified check you out! This looks bad, Beifong. No pole could've done this."
"Bolin," you rose to your feet. "I'm fine. Don't make me say it again." You didn't let Bolin get another word in as you gathered your things. "And Bolin, don't mention this to anyone."
-
Bolin can't keep a secret and honestly, it's your fault for telling him to keep one. You're his friend and Bolin doesn't believe in keeping his friends in danger. You need medical attention, even if you are too stubborn to admit it.
Immediately after practice, he ran to Mako who ran to Asami who told Korra.
When she first heard the news, Korra had mixed emotions. She was vexed because she didn't notice your pain and you didn't tell her, yet worried about the extremity of your injury. Could your arm fall off? What if the injury was actually worse underneath?
The Krew discussed your injury and how to intervene in your careless ways of living. There was a plan where they tricked you into going to the hospital, another where they took you out to dinner and would finesse you into spilling your guts, and then there's the plan they actually went through; the plan that made the most sense.
Korra was to go home with a smile on her face, cuddle and kiss on you for a while, and then ease into the conversation of training and injuries.
Mako thought the subtle conversation topic would force you to talk about your injury without actually forcing you.
Well, it's been two fucking hours of medical talk and Korra wasn't getting anywhere.
The two of you were cuddling on your bed, legs entangled with each other and her arms around your waist. She had her head on your good arm and from the corner of her eye, she could see the black and blue bruising that was growing to your neck.
Your pajamas acted as a pathetic way to hide it.
Korra was done playing the nice game. She had Asami in her head telling her to play the nice game and to ease into it. (She also had Mako claiming that Korra was unable to play the "nice-and-ease-into-it" game, but what Mako doesn't know won't kill him).
"Bolin told me," Korra spoke, her eyes fixated on the wall in front of you two.
You hummed, keeping your eyes closed. The ache and burn on your arm weren't as bad anymore. You also read somewhere that heat would inflame the injury more so after a quick lukewarm shower, you iced. You iced and replaced the ice for hours until Korra came home.
You were missing that ice right about now.
"Told you what?"
"That you have a disgusting bruise on your shoulder." Okay, so Bolin didn't describe it as disgusting, but what you don't know won't kill you either.
You snickered. "I ran into a pole, okay? It's not the big of a deal."
"Then why are you lying to me?" Korra pulled herself off of your chest. With delicate fingers, the Avater peeled the soft fabric off your shoulders.
The subtle movement of the fabric made you wince and the natural instinct was to push Korra away, so, you did. You pushed on her stomach to move her away from you. "Korra, don't."
"Oh, what are you gonna do?" she scoffed. Korra sat on her knees, shoulders squared to you and arms crossed over her chest. "Threaten me? You saw how that worked out with Bolin, nice move by the way." Korra's words were stern and leaning towards the angry side of things. Her nose scrunched while her nostrils flared. She was also gripping her arms so hard, her grip made marks.
"I didn't threaten him," you claimed.
"So, what would you call it? Being a bad friend? Telling him to keep your health a secret knowing damn well it's on the line?"
"My health is not on the line!" You've sat up from the bed now. Your bad arm rested on a mound of pillows and your good arm held it for support. "It's a tiny injury, sprain if you wanna go that far."
"That's rich," Korra scoffed. She shook her head, getting off the bed. "You can barely talk to me without the corner of your mouthing ticking from the pain. I can barely put my hands on your shirt and you can barely sit on the couch without groaning in pain."
You suddenly found interest in the ceiling. You took note of the texture and the color. You would find any new fact you could about this ceiling if it meant you could avoid Korra's burning gaze and her rising anger.
This is why you didn't want to tell her in the first place. She's worried about everyone else and for once, you wanted to be someone she doesn't have to worry about. But now she's here, yelling at you because she cares. Because you didn't tell her.
"I didn't want you to worry about me too," you mumbled. Your gaze dropped to the comforter. "You have so much on your plate, I wanted to ease the load. You shouldn't be stressed about me, you're the Avatar. You have more people to worry about."
Watching you struggle to look her in the eye, Korra sat herself on the bed. She put a soft hand on the mound of your knee, using her thumb to soothe the skin. "Hey," she spoke. "I am your girlfriend first and the Avatar second. I will always worry about you. You deserved to be worried about and cared for."
You swallowed thickly. The back of your throat scratched like you had a cold yet your mouth was eager to say something back. Your brain couldn't think of any words to say.
"Your struggles and problems aren't inferior to me. I want you to come to me with your troubles, not because I'm the Avatar, but because I'm your girlfriend. It's my job to care for you, to heal you when you're sick, and to pick you up when you're down. Master of the Elements or not, that's my job and it's yours too," she sighed. "So, please, for the first time, tell me what's wrong and what I can do to help you."
The moment your eyes locked with hers, a flood broke through you. You wept as you told her what was wrong with your arm and how long you've tried to sustain this injury, four days.
Korra could kick herself over and over again for not noticing how much pain you were in, but you were a good pretender. In some way, she had Bolin and Opal to thank. Without Bolin's sudden desire to train extra hard, you wouldn't be forced to stop pretending.
But instead of wallowing in self-pity and throwing a really weird party for the couple in her head, she comforted you. She pulled you to her chest and held you as tightly as she could without hurting you further.
The two of you stayed like that, you in her arms, for a while. You didn't take notice of the time spent in the position. You two focused on each other's breathing and warmth.
And finally, for the first time in a long time, you let Korra take care of you.
Cat and Mouse • Joel Miller
Main Masterlist • Joel Miller Masterlist
☢️ sexual assault (past) • reader’s motto is gaslight gatekeep girlboss • cocky Joel (needs a warning) • slut Joel • smut • miscommunication ☢️
This was supposed to be one part. It got away from me. I have no regrets. Part two will be up tomorrowish
Joel had a nod. It was a respectful greeting he used for a very specific set of people. He used it exclusively to acknowledge women he had fucked. Tommy had lost count of the amount of women he offered the nod to.
How he was getting away with making his way through half the population of Jackson, Tommy would never know. His brother had given the nod to nearly every single woman of an acceptable age range in town.
“Are you gonna start again once you collect them all?” Tommy asked one evening. He was trying to share a drink with his brother but Joel was like a damn bobble head with all the nodding he was doing.
“Huh?” Joel asked and Tommy only sighed, shaking his head. He took a sip of the watered down whiskey and remembered a time it was him nodding his head at all the women in down town Austin. He had no idea how Joel was able to keep up now.
Tommy was happy to have Maria now, someone to come home to at the end of the day. Someone to share everything with. He could never go back to giving away parts of himself to different women every Friday night. It was made all the better by the fact that it was Maria who chose to love him for all his faults. He didn’t get complacent with her love, he worked for it every single day.
While Tommy was driven to distraction thinking of his wife Joel had found a new target. Tommy watched him lock eyes on you and shook his head, pulling his brother back down into his seat. “Not her.”
“Not her? Why not her?” Joel asked in confusion, his eyebrows furrowed. He looked back to you again and Tommy could see the allure. The tight jeans stole all the attention in the room, your laugh was like a sirens call. But Tommy couldn’t allow it.
“Not up for debate. You can fuck every single woman in town but her. She’s not an option. You’re not allowed.” Tommy didn’t explain his reasoning, only shook his head. Joel grinned at his brother and shook his hand off. “I’ll treat her real nice, promise.”
Tommy let him go. He thought it was personal, that you were a friend of Tommy’s or something. Tommy had never even gotten close and he wouldn’t dare to. You were the choice of most single men in Jackson and some not so single men. But Tommy had watched you chew every last one of them up and spit them all out.
You played with them like a bored barn cat and a field mouse. You let the run rings around you and just when they thought they’d won you deal the killing blow with one lazy swipe of a paw.
Tommy wanted to hate you. Maria had to deal with more than one bruised ego and tell them that no, embarrassing them and breaking up with them was not enough reason to kick you out of the commune.
The men knew better. You’d been doing it for the two years you’d been in Jackson, seeming to take sick pleasure in luring the men in and bringing them down a peg or two. Tommy could only thank the god above you never went near the married men or he knew there would be hell to pay from the possessive wives of Jackson.
You seemed to have some morals, atleast.
Well, that wasn’t exactly fair either. Tommy knew some of what happened to you before Jackson. How the men had treated you in your last camp. They had done much worse than a little embarrassment and ego checking.
Tommy watched you turn into the tap on your shoulder from Joel as he played the polite southern gentleman, just trying to squeeze by to get some drinks. You weren’t fooled, Tommy could tell, even if Joel couldn’t.
And so the game began.
///
“Pardon me, ma’am.” You looked over your shoulder to find Tommy Miller’s brother with an almost bashful look on his face, his hand retreating from where he had tapped your shoulder. “You mind if I squeeze in?”
You blinked at him before smiling demurely, moving a step back so he could reach the bar and gesture to Seth for a drink. You shared a look with Lou, your friend that you had been drinking with, over his shoulder and she shook her head with a laugh and turned away. “Thank you, ma’am.”
“Well with good southern manners like that and a Texan twang you can’t be anyone other than Tommy’s-” You paused to look him up and down slowly. “Big brother?”
“You’re gonna tell me Tommy’s got manners?” Joel asked with a laugh, accepting his drink from Seth and leaning an elbow on the bar.
“Nah but I’m sure one of you had to have them.” You told him, smiling when he laughed. You were jostled from behind by someone heading for the bar and you pressed against Joel before backing away slowly. “Sorry ‘bout that.”
“Don’t you worry, sweetheart.” He was laying the accent on thick and you smiled at him, looking up from under your eyelashes. You rested one hand on his arm for balance when you were jostled again. “I don’t think we got a proper introduction. I’m Joel, Joel Miller.”
You gave him your name and stepped back to extend your hand to him. He shook it slowly before lifting it and pressing a soft kiss to the back of your hand. You laughed in delight. “Oh you really are a gentleman. I thought those were extinct.”
“Endangered maybe, I don’t know about extinct.” He still held your hand, his thumb smoothing over your skin. You blinked slowly at him when a particularly rough jostle shoved you into his chest. His arm wrapped around your waist to steady you and you apologized when you caught yourself with both hands on his chest. “You wanna watch where you’re going, buddy?”
You turned in Joel’s embrace, his arm still tight around you, to find Nolan. You fought a wince knowing that this game could be over before it started if he decided to run his mouth. “It’s fine Joel.”
“It ain’t fine, he can apologize.” Joel insisted and you couldn’t quite tamp down the wince this time when Nolan looked up at you. “Right now.”
“She ain’t worth the breath of an apology.” Nolan scoffed and you bit back a laugh. You had really hurt his feelings and you hadn’t even been trying, not really. “Dirty whore.”
“Now I know you ain’t-” Joel’s chest swelled as he started to defend you and you let your laugh loose.
“Nolan, sweetie. I’m sorry that you and I didn’t work out but it ain’t my fault and I ain’t no whore.” You reminded him, your voice gentle. “I think you just had too much to drink.”
Nolan stared at you for a second, his jaw tense before he looked over your shoulder. “Yeah, that’s it. Sorry about that.”
A low whistle reminded you that you were still in Joel’s grip. He let you go when you twisted back to look at him and found his impressed smile. “Solved that a lot tamer than I woulda.” Joel told you honestly.
“Awh Nolan doesn’t mean any harm.” You told Joel and looked over your shoulder to find the man with his back to you. “Being truthful? Me and Nolan used to date. It’s hard when it doesn’t work out. Jackson is so small.”
“Yeah, I hear ya. Always bumpin’ into each other after the fact. Can’t be easy.” Joel allowed and you nodded, a small smile on your lips.
“You sound familiar with the feeling but I was under the impression that you don’t date.” You stole his glass to sip at his drink and he raised his eyebrows both at your comment and your cheek. “We women talk, Mr Miller.”
“Well, like you said. It gets messy. And I don’t like mess.” He admitted, waving at Seth for another drink. You smiled and tipped your head back, finishing his drink.
“I quite like messy.” You told him, catching Lou’s eye where she was lingering off to the side. “Pity you don’t. Cause I don’t do one night stands. Nice talking to you, Joel.”
“Wait, what?” Joel asked when you grabbed your purse from the bar stool. He looked from the empty glass you placed on the bar to your back as you walked away, arm linked with Lou.
Seth rested Joel’s drink on the counter and he took it, ignoring the chuckling bar man. He found his seat beside Tommy again and watched his brother try to hide his smile. “Count yourself lucky. That’s easier than the other men get off.”
“That’s the problem, Tommy.” Joel finished his drink in one swallow. “There wasn’t any getting off. But I’ll change that. She’s sweet, real sweet.”
“She’s gonna chew you up and spit you out, big brother.” Tommy assured him with a laugh. “But someone’s gotta bring you down a peg.”
///
You heard him before you saw him. The thin walls of the greenhouses held no secrets. A fact that a lot of people forgot when they wanted to go gossiping.
Joel Miller wasn’t gossiping though. He was looking for you, asking Betty where you might be found. He had gone as far to check up on your rotation to find you today. That seemed like someone who would play your game.
You didn’t look up when Betty sent him in your direction, picking the strawberries carefully. You were splitting them between baskets, trying to be fair with the size and number distributions. He paused on the threshold but you only hummed under your breath, turning away to grab several more baskets to fill. He cleared his throat and you made yourself jump a little, spinning around to face him.
“My God, Joel.” You huffed, a hand on your chest. He was grinning at you, proud to have caught you unaware. “I was in a world of my own. Make a little noise next time.”
“I’ll be sure to keep that in mind, sweetheart.” He leaned against the door frame with his arms crossed over his chest. “You’re not an easy woman to track down.”
“Is that so?” You asked him, turning to face him. You leaned back against the work bench, your hands behind your back. “What’s got you tracking me?”
“Can’t a man be neighborly?” He asked, an eyebrow raised and you laughed. He straightened up from the door way and you were in awe of his size, how his broad shoulders filled the space. “Making sure you’re doing alright after putting Nolan in his place the other night?”
“I ain’t worried about Nolan and we ain’t neighbors, Mr Miller.” You reminded him and he looked slightly abashed to have been called out so thoroughly. You wanted to cup his red cheeks and coo at his embarrassment. A big man like Joel, he’d hate that he liked you doing it too.
“If a man was looking to get a little messy, how’d he go about it?” Joel asked and you smiled brightly as his forwardness. “Asking for a friend, of course.”
“Oh well, you can tell your friend that I got a three date rule.” You told Joel, turning back to pick your strawberries. “I like to be wined and dined, not rushed out the back door the following morning.”
“And if he’s got a kid that can’t know. Can that wining and dining be discreet?” Joel asked and you shrugged, turning with a basket of strawberries in your hand.
“If your friend wants to come and cook me dinner in my home, away from prying eyes, I wouldn’t complain.” You told him, holding the strawberries out to him. “For your friend.”
“I’ll be sure to pass all’a that on to him.” Joel tipped his head at you, that infuriating nod he gave all the other women in town.
“Don’t nod at me like that. I ain’t a sure thing and I ain’t your conquest.” You huffed, annoyed you had already given him the strawberries. “You can tell your friend he better try harder than you do.”
“Yes ma’am.” Joel sounded properly chastised but you didn’t give him the satisfaction of looking up at him when he left with a muttered thanks for the strawberries.
You released a breath and smiled to yourself as you finished with the strawberries. He was such an adorable man for the sheer size of him. So quick to apologize when he was in the wrong too. It was endearing.
///
“Fancy seeing you here.” Joel looked up from the basket of blueberries he was examining closely. “Those blueberries hurt your feelings or somethin’?”
“Ellie doesn’t like them too soft.” He explained and you stepped closer to him, looking over the baskets of berries. You selected one and passed it to him. “Thank you.”
“I know how she feels. It’s kind of gross when they turn to mush.” You admitted, lifting a bundle of wild garlic and checking each leaf. “Friday evening. I finish work at seven, by the way.”
“Seven?” Joel asked, his interest moving from the open collar of your blouse to your face. He didn’t look embarrassed to be caught looking.
“If your friend is still looking to get messy.” You prompted and he blinked, nodding his head slowly. You reached for a red bell pepper and turned it over in your hand. “I mean, if he’s up for it.”
“Up for it?” Joel asked, reaching over you to pick a bell pepper of his own. He didn’t bother examining it, tossing it into his basket. You sighed and pulled it back out, tilting it over to show him where it had gone soft.
“Some men aren’t up to the challenge of having to actually get to know someone. Especially when there’s no promise, or even chance, of sex at the end of the night.” You explained while picking a separate pepper and handing it to him. He copied your inspection this time before placing it in his basket.
“I can hold a conversation. Just because I only usually spend one night, doesn’t mean it ain’t a damn good night. You won’t be the first woman I’ve wined and dined.” Joel huffed and you raised your eyebrows.
“You really know how to make a girl feel special.” You huffed, turning on your heel. You checked in with the stall owner and let them check off the food you were taking, ignoring Joel’s attempt to get your attention. The market was too crowded for him to navigate it as quickly as you had.
Joel was left staring after you feeling wrong footed again. He wasn’t sure how he managed to always mess it up with you. Saying the wrong thing at the wrong time, doing the wrong thing when things were going so good.
He sighed and returned to the stalls, looking over the produce in search of something inspirational enough for dinner with you on Friday. If he was even welcome at this point.
Joel didn’t avoid dating for the mess if it ended badly. He didn’t date cause he hadn’t dated anyone since he was sixteen. Fucking was easy. Dating was complicated.
He stared at the uninspired fruit and vegetables and shook his head, turning on his heel and leaving that decision for later in the week.
///
“Come now,” Tommy sighed, leaning back on your porch with a glass of lemonade in hand. He was regretting agreeing to be on landscaping duty this summer. He was getting too damn old for that old push lawnmower. “He’s not a bad guy. You could just cancel on him.”
“I ain’t cancelling on him.” You shook your head and Tommy sighed. “It ain’t really any of your business either. Joel and I are both consenting adults.”
“He doesn’t know what you’re like.” Tommy sighed and you blinked at him. He didn’t know you well enough for the way he was talking to you.
“What I’m like?” You asked, standing up from the porch swing. Tommy looked up from his spot on the porch steps. “Tell me, Tommy Miller, what am I like?”
“You treat it like a game.” Tommy sighed. You wondered if he was brave or just stupid. “You chew men up and spit ‘em out. You don’t care about hurtin’ them.”
Tommy was leaned with his head back, eyes closed to block out the sun. Like an idiot, he fell for the same complacent safety that everyone in Jackson did. You hadn’t quite gotten that lazy yet and so you could see Joel approach.
“God, Tommy.” You sighed, arms wrapped around yourself. You had yourself twisted away from the direction Joel was approaching from. “I didn’t realize you bought into all the rumors. I’m sorry, I’ll call it off with Joel if you want. I just wanted to get to know him.”
“You got no idea the things the men in this town say. I know it all.” Tommy sighed. “Just leave Joel out of it.”
“I’m sorry.” You repeated, mouth downturned. “He was nice to me, ain’t too many men been nice to me in my life. He was safe. He stood up to Nolan when he called me a whore the other day. No one ever stood up for me before.”
Tommy looked up when your voice turned thick, suspicious eyes cracked at you. Joel cleared his throat and Tommy knew instantly. You had to give it to Tommy, you liked him. He was loyal to his wife and he took no bullshit from anyone. But he wasn’t going to get in your way.
“Joel!” You put as much surprise into your voice as you could without over playing your part. “We gotta put a bell on you or somethin’.”
“Joel-” Tommy tried but his brother only shook his head, not listening.
“Listen Joel, I hate to do this but I don’t think I can have dinner on Friday.” You padded down the porch steps. You hadn’t put on actual clothes yet, enjoying a rare day off to lounge around in shorts and a camisole. You knew it was working in your favor when Joel smiled gently at you.
“You ain’t cancelling on me cause my brother is an idiot. I’m a big boy, I make my own decisions. I’ll be here Friday and you’ll eat dinner with me.” Joel insisted and you looked back at Tommy who had his jaw clenched.
“I don’t wanna cause any trouble.” You insisted, blinking up at Joel. He only shook his head, raising his hand to tuck some of your hair back. “Honestly Joel, Tommy is right. I got a bit of a reputation with the men in town. I don’t know why I can’t get it right.”
“Let me worry about Tommy.” Joel promised, a dark glance in the direction of his brother. “It’s just dinner, Sweetheart. I ain’t proposing.”
“If you’re sure? I’ll understand if you-”
“Aht. None of that. I’ll be here, with bells on if that’s what you want. Now if you don’t mind I’m gonna have some words with that brother of mine.” Joel leaned forward and kissed your cheek softly. You smiled up at him and had to shake yourself from the distraction of how gentle his lips felt against you.
“I’m working.” Tommy was sat up on the porch now, eyes narrowed at you both. You fought the urge to smirk at him, you didn’t actually want to come between the Miller men. “Got lawns to mow.”
“I’ll keep you company. Make sure you ain’t running your mouth.” You turned back to Joel with a small smile.
“You want some lemonade?” You asked him softly and he smiled down at you, nodding.
“Honey, if it’s you offerin’ I’d probably accept puddle water.” You laughed lightly, heading back for the porch where one very grouchy Tommy Miller was sitting. He narrowed his eyes at you while you passed him and only looked away when Joel cleared his throat.
You paused once you were out of sight and listened to the pair of brothers grumbling at each other.
“You mind your goddamn business. I’m a grown man, I think I’d know if I was being manipulated.” Joel snapped at Tommy who only sighed.
“You got no idea.”
///
“I gotta admit, I’m impressed.” You were sitting on the counter by your oven, watching Joel cook. Your bare heels were kicking off the cupboard doors under the counter, giving a rhythmic background noise to join the sound of bubbling from the pots. “Kind of expected you to be a microwave man.”
“I can be.” He admitted with a laugh and you smiled, staring down at the stir fry he had chosen to cook for you. He claimed it covered all the bases; light enough for the summer heat, filling if you were a vegetarian, and easy enough that getting distracted by talking to you wouldn’t ruin the meal. “Most nights I’ll have a baked potato done in the microwave.”
You wrinkled your nose at him but he only shrugged at you. “Don’t knock it ‘til you try it.”
“I’m gonna knock it. I don’t need to try it.” You laughed and hopped off the counter, heading for your drink cabinet. “Whiskey?”
“Mm, no. Check my bag there, brought you a little somethin’.” You smiled at him before ducking into the hallway where he had left his bag. Opening the zip and exposing the contents had you calling Joel’s name in delight.
You carried the bottles back into the kitchen and held them up. Joel laughed at your giddy smile when you placed one bottle down and moved to open the other one. “Where’d you find actual wine?”
“We had a patrol a couple of weeks ago into a new town. Found a couple of them.” He told you, watching as you swapped the whiskey glasses for wine ones.
“Would you like a glass now?” You offered and he nodded with a smile when you carried one over to him. “You really took me seriously.”
“Wined and dined, Sweetheart. I’m a man of my word.” You took your place alongside him again and watched him check that the noodles were cooked. He’d had to trade a day of labour in the stables for the noodles. He really had pulled out all the stops.
“Color me impressed.” You sipped at your wine and nudged his hip with your knee. “I should’ve never doubted your skills.”
“Ah, I owe you an apology for that. I ain’t treating you how I treat other women. I know this isn’t just one night.” Joel promised and you smiled softly. “I keep putting my foot in my mouth around you. Can’t think straight when it comes to you, I guess.”
“Charmer.” You rolled your eyes and hopped off the counter again. You stole both wine glasses and placed them on the table, bringing Joel the plates so he could serve up dinner.
You had set either side of the small dining room table but Joel only shook his head, moving his place setting so he was sitting at your right hand side, closer than you had put him. “How are we supposed to get to know each other from that far away?”
“It’s like a foot and a half?” You asked, eyebrows raised. He only shook his head again, settling himself in and taking a sip of his wine. You couldn’t help but laugh at him.
You hadn’t actually thought about the conversation during dinner and you had the sudden thought that it could be awkward. Joel didn’t share those sentiments, talking away about anything that entered his mind.
He was funny, which was surprising. Being hot and having a personality was a rare deal when it came to the men of Jackson. Everything about Joel surprised you. He kept your glass topped up and even washed the dishes when you both finished with the meal.
You found yourself checked up at the end of your sofa, facing Joel who was telling you about running into a giraffe living wild in Salt Lake City. You couldn’t believe him, expressing your jealousy.
“It was kind of surreal like everything I’ve seen in the last twenty five years and a giraffe is what seems the most unrealistic?” Joel laughed. You shifted against the couch cushion with a laugh and the wine in your glass spilled out and splashed your top making you gasp at the cool of it.
“Shit, sorry.” You leaned forward, pulling the fabric away from your chest and Joel held a hand out, taking your glass from you. “Gimme a second.”
You hurried up to your room, swapping your blouse for another. At the last second you paused in your doorway and swapped your blouse for a thin camisole. Another pause had you unhooking your bra and tossing it in the direction of your hamper. You admired yourself for a moment in the mirror before heading back to Joel.
He held your wine glass out to you with a gentle smile. You took the middle sofa cushion this time, moving you closer to Joel who let his eyes dip down just barely. “I’ve always been clumsy.”
“Is that right?” He asked and you nodded, finishing your glass of wine in one final swallow. “Maybe I should head out.”
“You could.” You nodded, placing your glass on your coffee table. “In fact you probably should. But I don’t want you to.”
“What do you want?” Joel asked you softly when you straightened up, inches between your faces. He was holding himself back, you could see it. Any of those other women he would’ve already pinned to the sofa and fucked them until they screamed.
“I don’t do this. I don’t do one nights.” You whispered quietly. His jaw clenched and you swallowed nervously. “It makes me feel cheap and dirty to be used like that and wake up alone in the morning.”
“What do you want? Do you want me to leave now? Because I’ll go, Sweetheart.” He promised you softly. “If you want me to stay and be here when you wake up tomorrow then I will. And I’ll come back for dinner too.”
“Awful presumptuous, Mr Miller.” You laughed, fingers twisting together in an attempt to gather your courage. “Stay?”
“Set the pace.” He whispered and his breath fanned against your lips. Your hand moved up to wrap around the back of his neck and pull him closer, your lips pressing to his.
You pressed against him, shifting so that you were straddling his lap, your tongue pressing into his mouth. He pulled you to grind against him, his big hands on your hips. You couldn’t help but moaning his name against his mouth. “Feel’s so good.”
“Tell me what you want.” He groaned when you shifted in his lap, rubbing right up against him.
“Take me to bed, Joel.”
///
You groaned against you pillow and squinted against the morning sun. You hadn’t bothered to pull your curtains last night, what with Joel fucking you into the mattress and all.
The man in question was wrapped around you from behind, still asleep it seemed. Well, most of him was asleep. He was making small aborted moves with his hips, rubbing up against the small of your back.
You shifted against him, turning in his grip to tap at his cheek gently. He shook his head and burrowed into your neck before freezing. You ran your fingers through his hair and scratched at his scalp. “Morning.”
He grunted something that sounded like a good morning and you slid your hand down between you both, circling him in your hand. He pulled his head back and blinked at you. “I think I might a little too sore for round two. But if this is okay?”
“More’n okay. You don’t need to though.” Joel promised and you smiled, pressing a kiss to his cheek, pumping your hand. The little movements he had been making had been enough to have his tip wet. You paused to lick the palm of your hand and resumed your movements. Joel groaned, head tipped back and tendons in his neck straining. “So fucking good.”
You wrapped one leg up on his hip and every time he bucked into your hand he pressed between your legs. You had no desire to let him push inside of you again but you couldn’t help the small moans Everytime he pushed through your wet slit, the head of his cock was kissing your clit.
He took control of the speed, deliberately moving so that you felt each slide of his cock, his own hand closing over yours and tightening your grip. “So wet for me, Sweetheart. Gotta treat that pussy good after all the abuse I gave it last night.”
You whined against his neck, your breath coming faster. He was hitting against you perfectly and you couldn’t remember ever feeling this good with another person before. Your free hand pressed against Joel’s chest, nails digging into his chest. “Fucking, right there, please. Please.”
“Cum for me. Come on. Cum for me.” Joel demanded and you wanted to scoff at him, the same words coming from the mouth of every man you slept with. But Joel wasn’t every man. Joel was better. You shuddered against him as your orgasm hit, your hand falling away from his cock. He took over, pumping himself through his own orgasm which splashed against your stomach.
“Fuck.” You pulled away from Joel, the heat and sweat making you grimace. You collapsed onto your back and he did the same, chest raising and falling quickly. “Good morning is right.”
“A very good morning.” He agreed with a grunt. You couldn’t help the giggles, pushing yourself out of the bed. “Where’re you going?”
“To shower while you’re making that breakfast you promised me.” You reminded him and his brow furrowed.
“I didn’t promise breakfast. In fact it’s time you make a meal.” Joel teased with a grin and you shook your head, pulling on your robe.
“You promised last night. I asked if you’d really stay the night and you said you’d make breakfast.” You reminded him and he scrunched up his face in an effort to remember and you smiled at him, leaning against your dresser.
He looked immaculate in the morning, so big and broad. His chest was covered in hair that tapered down to a trail on his stomach. He looked up and you laughed.
“You were right about to fuck me? Less than an inch away and I asked you if you would definitely be there when I woke.” You reminded him and he nodded.
“Ah yes, I would’ve promised anything to get into your pussy at that point.” He laughed and you froze in place, your smile slipping from your lips. You pulled your robe tighter around yourself and swallowed.
“Is that right?” You asked, your voice cold. “Anything to get your way, huh?”
He paused, arching his neck up to look at you again. At your expression he pushed up on his elbows and you narrowed your eyes at him. “Not like that. I didn’t mean that how it sounded.”
“I’d like you to leave. Now.” You knew what was happening. He had agreed to play the game but now he was changing the rules.
He scrambled up on the bed and got tangled in the blankets. A knock on your front door had him freezing in place. You paused too, wondering who in their right mind was at your door at this hour on a Saturday. You stared at Joel for a second before tying your robe and hurrying down the stairs.
The door swung open to find Ellie who appraised you, eyebrows raised. “Tommy said Joel would be here. I need him.”
“You can have him.” You promised her, turning to find Joel on the stairs, buttoning his shirt. “You’re needed.”
“Yeah, I heard. ” Joel said, his voice angry. Ellie looked between you both and shrugged.
“You didn’t come home. There’s a leak in the bathroom. Tommy said I’d find you here.” She explained and Joel looked at you and away again. Tommy had done enough home improvement for you to know one thing.
“Oh my god.” You looked between Ellie and Joel and felt physically sick. “You organized a bail out if you stayed the night.”
“It’s not with it looks like.” Joel promised and you scoffed, tossing his bag at him from the hallway floor.
“Get the fuck out of here. And don’t bother coming back.”
༻༺༻༺༻༺༻༺༻༺༻༺༻༺༻༺༻༺༻༺༻༺༻༺༻༺༻༺༻༺༻༺༻
"What about the movies?" Lydia asked as she finished the last of her strawberry shake.
"We've been to the movie like a million times in the past four weeks. Besides movies give me headaches." You responded, while Stiles and Scott were engaged in some annoying competition to see who could chew louder.
"Well, that's what happens when you spend too much time giving head in theaters." She replied snippily while she ate a fry and grabbed one that fell down her shirt.
"That was one time!" Stiles protested from the front seat. He glanced at Lydia from around the seat who made a face of disgust at him from hearing about your 'adventures'.
"One time too many." Scott chuckled, swallowing his nuggets.
"You got head in a movie theater?" Liam chimed in, from where he was laying across Scott and Lydia with his legs across their laps and his head on the soft seat.
"Yes."
"Was it good?" Liam asked, angling his head upwards and adjusting his hoodie.
"...yes." Stiles responded after a moments hesitation.
"I'm gonna try it." Liam responded with a hint of curiosity and more confidence. Stiles chuckled and motioned for your bag that was somewhere on ground.
"With who? Your hand?"
"That isn't head, it's public masturbation." Liam responded. You were now digging around for your bag, looking behind you once you realized it was no longer by your feet but instead was the large Mcdonald's bag.
"Well I doubt you'd be flexible enough." Lydia found your bag, and dusted salt from her fries off her fingertips before handing Stiles your bag. Laughter filled the car, as the youngest Liam did get his ass cut the most.
Searching through your bag, Stiles picked up the smaller pouch that held the multitude of object you weren't supposed to have. Including some things of his that you were just holding for him at the moment. Instead, Stiles rummaged around in the bag before he felt his fingertips graze the small disposable cart in the bottom of your bag.
Usually, the car would be filled with smoke. But tonight, when you had your mom's car it was an unspoken agreement that there was no sort of illicit activity in her car.
Stiles unbuckled his seat belt, and your eyes followed him as he clambered out of the car. The passenger door shut gently, and he leaned back against the window. While your friends in the back seat debated what to do tonight, you slid out silently amongst the confusion.
The warm spring air ghosted your skin, and your feet led you to your boyfriends side. He looked picturesque.
His dark hair was getting a little bit longer than he would prefer, but it suited him nicely. He doesn't look strong but secret biceps rippled under his short-sleeved shirt. The moon shone down on his pale skin that made him look like a painting, the light didn't reach his eyes completely but the parts it did reach caused Stiles to look sculpted. Even the blue of his shirt made him look perfect.
How lucky you were to have Stiles.
Reaching out to him, you patted your hand on his bicep, and he snapped out of his thoughts. His eyes were still clear, but you could practically see the haze taking over his mind.
"Hi baby." He greeted, wrapping his arms around you. Inside the car you heard the argument between the three escalating. Lydia insisted on the movies, Liam wanted to play video games and Scott was all for just going home and chilling. None of that mattered when you were in Stiles arms though.
"So, what do you want to do tonight?" You asked, crossing your legs while you leaned against Stiles who leaned against the car.
He went silent, chin resting on your shoulder. He felt less tense, and you realized it was probably overwhelming him to be in the car. Everyone yelling their opinions, the discomfort he feels sometimes when being driven by others, the disaster that was the debate on where to get food before you angrily decided on McDonald's to stop the commotion, plus it had been a long day at school with two tests that he's sure he bombed.
He was silent for two minutes, his fingers tracing little symbols across the skin on your arm. It was like he was slowly invading your brain, maybe you were getting a contact high.
He looked at you, his eyes lazy and slightly red studied your face and made you rub your thighs together. If anyone could instantly get you wet, it was your boyfriend, Stiles. Taking a short breath, his eyes flickered to your lips and his tongue peaked out while licking his lips.
"You?" He asked, before guiding his face up to yours and kissing you softly with a hunger behind it. Stiles had a higher sex drive than you. Which was saying something, considering most supernatural creatures had heightened everything. You two have once had sex four times in a day, and he wore you out.
When the kiss ended, he rearranged you two so you were pressed against the car door.
"Stiles-"
His lips quickly found yours, his hands doing some light exploration of the body that he's explored many times. His lips trailed down after a moment and loving kisses were left down your neck as you bit back moans. Whenever you two had sex, the roles were switched between you too.
You stay calm in every situation, no matter the battle or the enemy in front of you. A steady head on your shoulders that never wavered, you were the picture of strength and confidence. Stiles was typically panicked, scattered all over the place but able to make the perfect plan for any situation. But the moment y'all get to freaking? Stiles has total control over you, and sometimes you thought he was the one with magic. He somehow made your brain melt with each kiss, how you become clingy and desperate for anything he gave you.
His hands slid down your curves and found their desired home on your hips. God, what was it about Stiles? The entire world was gone. It was just you and your man and sometimes that's all you need. Your head fell back against the car while he planted soft kisses down your neck and took the chance to slide a knee in between your legs. He tasted like weed and the Fanta he had before, but his tongue somehow swiped your lower lip. He moaned at the taste of the coconut lip gloss.
But a loud knock pulled you two out of the passionate making out. Inside the car, your friends gagged and made faces against the glass of the wind
The window slid down, Scott's brown eyes popping up by the sliver of glass.
"Were you seriously about to have sex on the car with all of us watching???" He questioned; an eyebrow raised while Liam and Lydia judged silently.
"It wouldn't be our fault if you chose to watch." Stiles shrugged. You pushed your palm into his mouth and shoved his head away.
"We were not about to have sex."
"We weren't?"
"...Get in the car."
"What if Stan gives Shanklin a Mini Mr. Mystery outfit? The two be twinning!"
Dear 500-word-ask!anon from my inbox. Have my answer for the first 14 words.
Selfish Shellfish AU - Masterpost
Shanklin found him. Somehow, hundreds of miles away from home, Shanklin found him.
Soos almost ran him over on accident but Stan took the steering wheel at the very last second and turned it around.
The sudden drift and following emergency brake had them almost break right through the windshield, but Stan didn’t care about his bruised shoulder and bleeding head. He recognized that screeching grin anywhere.
He threw himself out of the car and stumbled onto the street, frantically looking around for his friend.
“Shanklin! SHANKLIN!”
It wasn’t just his imagination, right? Stan was certain he saw his little possum. Stan turned around and ran back to the car. Did they hit him? Did he kill another member of his family?
Stan sank to the ground. Please please don’t let it be true. Not Shanklin. Stan closed his eyes tightly and tried to block out the world around him until he felt little pricks on his thigh, little claws scratching his pants and the skin underneath.
A tiny furry body squeezed itselfs into a gap in between his curled up body and nestled comfortably on his lap.
Stan cradled the possum into his arms, hid his face in the scruffy fur and wept silently. Shanklin came back to him. For him.
Soos suggested Shanklin might be magical, some sort of animal wizard or something, and Stan couldn’t help but agree.
“You really are magic, aren’t you? The smartest, most mysterious possum the world has ever seen!”
In response, the banana piece Shanklin was messily chewing on fell out of his mouth and he bit on the fabric in Stan's hands instead.
“Hey, that’s for the show, stop that! HEY!”
It took much more effort than expected to get Shanklin into the Mini Mr. Mystery outfit. For a super smart magical wizard pet he sure acted like a wild animal sometimes.No matter, Stan had succeeded and Shankling looked, quite honestly, really damn cute. Stan had been hoping for a more cool aesthetic, but the little hat, tie and suit combo was just adorable and matched his own perfectly.
Stan tried not to think about how much Grauntie Mabel would love it. How proud she would be, if things were different. She had taught him all about making comfortable clothes for animals, when Ford had kicked him out of their shared room in the attic that one time.
He, Fidds and Grunkle Dipper needed more space for an all night DD&mD extravaganza, so Stan had to go.
Back then Stan had tried to ask if he could join but chickened out at the last minute.
“Stan, don't touch that. Those are some highly advanced calculations for later game play. I don’t want them all messed up. You wouldn’t understand”
Stan took a look at the sheets and it was true. Nothing on them made a lick of sense, but he had hoped they could just do the math for him and he could still be there for the fun bits.
The fun bits being the times when Stan heard them laughing and screaming in delight. The ones that became inside jokes that no one explained to Stan. And if he would asked them to, they’d just laugh harder.
But they were right, Stan wouldn’t understand. He’d just mess everything up.
So he went downstairs, where Grauntie Mabel made him a warm chocolatey Mabel Juice variant and taught him all about how to sew in an emergency, in case you see a cute animal that would be even cuter in a little blazer.
Sewing and creating miniature outfits was surprisingly fun and when he heard laughter from above and Grauntie Mabel put her arms around him in sympathy, he felt not as alone as usual.
“I know it’s hard,” she told him looking pained, “but we need to let those nerds do their own thing. If we go and force them to do stuff they don’t want to, it will just end badly for all of us. I’ve been through it before and trust me. This is for the best.”
Stan leaned into her and let himself be comforted by her warmth.
Stan did not tell her that he just wanted to play with them and not force them to do something else.
And he did not ask her why she constantly agreed with Dipper's plans then, even though she clearly didn’t want to.
“Okay, I trust you.” he said instead and got rewarded with a kiss on his head and a cuddle.
Mini Mr. Mystery was a blazing success!
Everyone loved Shanklin, even if he almost ate his hat halfway through the show.
If his luck streak continued, Stan would soon make enough money to pay Soos back for all that he had wasted on him.
Stan took a bow and held Shanklin out to the crowd who squeaked in protest.
The “awws” in response were justified. His Shanklin was adorable!
“Look at you and your twin!”
Shanklin started to squirm. Stan held him tighter and forced a grin.
“Almost identical. You can barely tell them apart.”
oh don’t be silly. it’s easy. the freak with the glasses is the smart one and the one who looks like he can’t count to three is the spare
The crowd laughed.
mocking laughter, red cheeks, six fingered hands hiding away
“So if you’re the creative one then that must make this little guy the smart one right?”
don’t you ever call him that again
Stan's grip loosened and Shanklin attacked, jumping right onto the worst offender, scratching and biting.
or i’ll make sure you won’t live long enough to regret it
The crowd jumped and screamed as the possum ran through, attacking everyone that looked like a threat. In midst the panic a path formed and Stan ran until his legs gave out.
Shanklin was still by his side when he finally collapsed and cuddled up next to him. Stan pet his head, now free of the fez.
Maybe Stan just wasn’t cut out for this twinning thing.
Later Soos would find them both fast asleep under a park tree. He swore up and down that Shanklin showed him the way and Stan swore that he never left his side.
#Selfish Shellfish AU#stanley pines#shanklin#ask#technically. i need some more time for thr rest XD#i tried to write in past tense and kept confusing myself#soos picked up stan after he ran from jersey and now theyre more or less on an extended road trip#stan liked tourist traps so much he ended up making his own travelling tourist trap and now shanklins there#or something. i should've gone to bed hours ago.#if none of this make senss ¯\_(ツ)_/¯#good night#gravity falls#relativity falls
Christmas cookies
Raiting: 18+
Warnings: smut, fluff.
A/N: I wanted to try writing a one-shot for christmas since I did it last year and @mindofasagittaruis request came at the right time. Enjoy and happy holidays yall~
One boxe at a time he had managed to arrange everything, filling the huge tree base that him and Y/N had decorated together a week before. He knew she would complain, scolding him because it was too much, but Roman liked to spoil her and for that occasion he had really wanted everything.
It was their first Christmas together as a couple and he wanted it to be special. Y/N liked Christmas, was her favorite holiday, she got more excited than a little girl every time and he had promised himself and her, to do everything possible to make sure nothing was missing. They had decorated the house inside and out, planned dinners with family, started watching christmas movies, booked a weekend out fitting it between both of their schedules and Roman had tried not to plan something more to finally give voice to that impulse that was now becoming an urgency.
Admiring his work one last time, he went to the kitchen, where Y/N had decided to spend her afternoon with the most classic Christmas songs, wearing yet another hoodie stolen not too discreetly from his closet. When he crossed the door, there was no corner where she hadn't scattered a little bit of sugar, flour and sprinkles. It was a battlefield strewn with bowls, trays, and baking ingredients that smelled of vanilla, cinnamon and chocolate, the kind of chaos that warms heart and tastes like home.
- What's going on here? – he inquired with a smile and she turned to look at him, hands dirty with who knows what raised in the air, while Roman twisted his arms around her hips to swing her playfully.
- I should ask to you, what was all that chaos back there? – she asked suspiciously, giving him one of knowing looks, but he pretended not to notice, giving her a quick kiss on her cheek and peeking what she was backing.
- Don't know, Santa probably.
- I don't remember I have written a letter to him.
- So these ones are for me? – he asked, pointing the Christmas cookies placed on the marble counter.
It wasn't the kind of food she usually prepared if she decided to get into the kitchen, she was more into salty and spicy recipes, and yet there they were, lots of gingerbread men, trees and cinnamon houses waiting to be decorated.
- It's just an experiment, I wanted to make something special but then I remembered you already have me in your life so I tried with simple things… guess they're not so simple – she reflected pouting, moving a couple of those who she had already tried to decorate.
The shapes were flawless, but icings had mixed together, dripping around and ruining the designs she'd tried to make. Not the kind of result expected from her being a perfectionist and Roman found himself smiling as he watched her look them one by one with her still dirty fingers, until he reached out to take a snowman. It was supposed to be white with a carrot-nose and a scarf he knew it, but the little one didn't have a very happy expression, a bit like her, at least until he swallowed it.
-They taste good – he approved, feeling the aftertaste of spices warming his mouth and he reached out to take another one.
Amazed, Y/N watched him chew the second too, face lighting up, smile emerging again on her soft lips, as she cleaned him from a crumb ended on his beard.
- Really? I should bake them for Santa so. To thanks him for all those gifts no one asked for I guess, what do you say? – she joked, tilting her head.
-I say he can have them, if I can have the chef – he left a kiss on her lips this time, mixing the flavor of Christmas cookies with her own.
He felt her soften without a single thought into his arms, flattening herself almost completely against his chest, clinging to his neck as best she could while avoiding dirtying him with icing and chocolate.
-You taste like cookies – he heard her soft laughing, between one kiss and another, making him groan.
- Yes?
- … uh-huh
He couldn't resist those whispers, even if they were playing, to see her hopelessly happy if they were together. Stealing kiss after kiss, he pulled her onto his body, forcing her legs to wrap around his hips as he placed her on the only empty corner of the kitchen counter. With her warm laughter in his ears, he slid his hands up her soft thighs, climbing higher, until he felt the full texture of that glorious ass, as he stopped kissing her to taste then her neck. By heart, he sucked that point just beyond her collarbone that caused her to shiver, immediately feeling her cling better, squeeze with her laughter which slowly became moans, forgetting about her hands dirty to hug him.
- I hadn’t finished though – she complained, her body seeming to melt like icing from his attentions and Roman slid his hands past her sweatshirt, touching that soft good smelling skin.
- I want my dessert – he demanded seriously and felt her scratching the back of his neck with red nails, drawing a dangerous growl from him that vibrated through the whole kitchen.
Without taking his lips away from her, savoring the inside of her mouth and the soft skin above her breasts, he stripped her of those extra clothes, her hands doing the same to his pants, leaving traces everywhere and making both of them as dirty as the rest. Slowly, Roman took his time to mark her, enjoy everything of that moment, ignoring his already awake boner demanding attention, to dedicate himself to something better, hidden between those infinite legs that refused to leave him. When his long fingers found her, Roman couldn't resist the temptation, dipping a finger into the heat of her perfectly wet pussy to explore the soft, welcoming walls where he wanted to sink until he completely lost himself. Y/N in front of him tightened his grip on his neck, gasping into his arms, gaze fascinated and full of lust as she watched him bring the hand up to lick clean his fingers.
- This one is just for me – he reminded her, feeling her cling to his wrist to place a kiss on the bottom lip, tasting herself too before sliding down with the back to give him all the room he demanded.
Satisfied, Roman helped her lift her thighs, making his way between them, to finally dip himself in that perfect sweet meal, nose sliding between her folds tracing the path before his fat tongue. He took a taste, slow, just with the tip, feeling Y/N's body tremble for attentions and stopped to suck high on that adorable button that made her tremble. Breaths soon became brazen moans and more volume increased, more insistent, hungry Roman became. It was so sweet down there, a bit like that icing with which she had covered cookies but not cloying, it was a flavor that he could no longer live without and that he always tried to milk away, until it dripped down onto his beard, making his mouth salivating. First her button, then that hot entrance and soft walls, puffy, full skin of the lips he loved to kiss as much as the ones up there, running his tongue flat between her, fucking that cave without mercy. Insistently he kept her pressed against his face, choking himself, maneuvering her for more, slow but commanding until Y/N began to delight him with her adorable cries, her back arched and hands trying to grab him for support.
Something next to them fell due to her jerky movements, one of the trays and Roman saw her turn her with a blank look, ending up stretching out his arm, putting the tray and bowl of icing into their place. Y/N smiled, thanking him with a glance and he placed a kiss with devotion on her pussy, his pussy, Roman’s eyes getting darker as he saw Y/N biting her lip as eager as he was at the sight of him now dirty with icing.
- Did you find something for your dessert? – he heard her ask with lust, legs pulling him closer and he grinned.
- I like it with cream on top – he reflected thoughtfully, letting some of the icing on his hand drip between her folds.
He saw her entrance tighten around nothing at the feeling, bewitching and nasty as only Y/N could be with him, only when they were together. Her, who always tried to leave nothing to chance, who controlled every little detail, perfect, impeccable, became something else with him in those moments, stooping to try anything without complaints. She was a dangerous gift, a challenge he had never found in anyone else and that would have brought him to his knees if only she had asked, a power game in which they both had the same hand but used it with complicity.
He ran his fingers between her folds, listening to her mewl, seeing Y/N hold her breath when one of his long fingers slipped some icing inside, mixing it with her juices and the saliva he had already left.
- Ahn… feels so cold mmh – she begged with those eyes that had bewitched him, pushing him to turn his hand, sink a little more to find that welcoming spot that made her cry in absolute bliss.
-Im gonna fill you up – he announced and Y/N squirmed on the counter, between spilled icing and broken cookies, without stopping being finger fucked, because she knew it wasn't with any of those ingredients that Roman wanted to do keep his promise.
Pumping into her opening, he reached down to taste her again, this time licking away the frosting he had spilled, tongue running slowly and hungrily over every inch of her soft, sensitive caramel skin. He sucked on her swollen button, the taste of her body mixing with vanilla, the sweetness of her honey hitting Roman’s mouth along with icing. A beautiful, soggy mess echoing inside his ears, a primal call that made him hungrier and hungrier as his wide mouth tried to devour her alive, kissing and licking her clean.
He loved the choking noise that came from her throat every time his lips sucked one or both of hers down there, the pop wet flesh, nose that ran through her pussy like a credit card ready to be emptied. It was the kind of pussy that had any man tied around a finger, one he would do anything for and it led to devotion, Roman was obsessed with her and looking back he really didn't know how to managed to live without, but it wasn't just that. It was all of her, it was Y/N. She had dangerously become his world even before sharing a house or Christmas together, and it was in unexpected moments like this one that reminded him of it, waking up in the depths of his stomach, inside his head, an impulse that didn't exist even in a ring, with adrenaline running into his veins, cheered by thousands of people. The need with which he had chased her for an entire year, in hotels, arenas and offices, around the country and even beyond the borders, day and night, that grip on lungs of a drowning man.
He kissed her legs, feeling her hands pulling a few locks, knees trembling as she felt him bury himself between those folds, widening that glistening opening with fingers, inserting his tongue to clean her like a mad man until he elicited a scream. Her walls tried to close, to squeeze him, as they would have done with his hard cock and Roman found himself moving his hips aimlessly, seeking relief and refusing to abandon his meal before having reduced her to tears.
He fucked her with his fat tongue, flat and strong, pounding deep into her softness, feeding on that true addicting sweetness, widening his mouth to take in as much as possible, dirtying his beard.
- Plea-aase! R-Ro, Ro! Ah! - he felt her tremble, body struggling on the marble counter, held in his arms in that unnatural pose which Y/N did not refuse to submit to anyway, just to keep her legs on his shoulders to give him everything he wanted.
He knew she was at her limit, but he refused to slow down, craving more, that impulse in his chest that was growing until he felt like was going to explode and pushed him to be savage. He ran his fingers over her button, squeezing it between his fingers to help her and as he licked her again, his tongue flat against the hot opening, Y/N exploded with a silent cry, eyes closed, breath broken. The taste of her was intoxicating, addictive and Roman stood there, as close as possible, accompanying her as she reached her peak, cleansing with dedication. With his eyes fixed on her face, he held her back until her muscles regained some strength, trailing kisses down her flat belly, up her legs, massaging Y/N with his fingers where she still throbbed and only when her shaking hands found him, along with those beautiful eyes, he stood up again.
- I could spend all my life between your legs, babygirl – he admitted menacingly, getting rid of his track that she had already undone and with her breathing still rapid, Y/N invited him, tightening her legs around his hips at the sight of his erection slapping her already swollen center.
- Do what you want, ain't complainin'ahn!-
Sinking until he lost himself, he pulled her to the edge of the counter, fitting into her and giving a long, deep stroke, savoring her warmth and that feeling of constriction, in which she stuck him every time, without giving her time to think again. Oh, he meant to. He really meant it and the thought of her indulging him went to his head enough to push him to speed up without restraint, the slimy sound of their bodies colliding now audible even among the Christmas songs. Head down, holding her open thighs, he watched her honey stain him a little more each time he thrust in, her caramel-colored mountain swelling as his flesh went deeper.
-Mmh… you're so hard – Y/N cried in a soft moan, one hand clinging to his forearm and the other to the counter edge now sticky from the icing and her pleasure.
- I can feel you squeeze around me babe, grab that dick, thats right, let daddy enjoy his pussy, y-yes – he spoke dirty, feeling and seeing her walls sucking him in, abs tense.
- Ooh shit Ro-
More her moans became louder more his hips accelerated, in Roman mind the full intention of wreck her just for himself, drilling in that spot that made her mouth open wide, taking the breath out of her lungs, making eyes close, her belly full. There was just her begging, that gorgeous luscious body of her tense and sweaty, his breath heavy, that fire running up to his mind clouded by the vision of Y/N suffering with pleasure his assault, the hammering of his hard cock. It was an asphyxiating pleasure, a hot and inexorable vice that pulsated around Roman meat, squeezing his flesh and inviting him to go deeper, until he slammed as far as possible to reach complete collapse.
- F-fu-ah! Ah! – he felt her tremble, writhe in spasms and pinned her down, fingers digging into her hips, anchoring her to that place.
- That's it, ah, beg sweetheart, yes, gimme your mess
- pl-leeah! Please!
Groaning, hyping her and himself, Roman pulled one of her legs up higher, slapping a hand into her thigh and Y/N screamed, her head sprawling from side to side, eyes closed and back arching for that new inclination. From there, he could see her moist pearl, the whitish excitement leaking out, dripping onto the marble and down, that wonderful ring that ignited the worst thoughts in him. He felt her walls tighten with more and more insistence, nails digging into his flesh and his belly on fire, while without any warning, already tormented by his attacks, Y/N once again fell apart with a strangled moan.
And so, Roman began to fuck her without mercy, growling, giving vent to every ounce of need in his body and mind, cock sliding deeper and deeper, his hot head pounding inside that sweet cave, taking advantage of her climax and streached walls. Losing all composure, losing himself in a sensation that only Y/N could give him, Roman felt shivers run down his sweaty neck and pumped until muscles burned from the physical effort, once again exceeding the limit, hitting the kitchen counter with his knees.
- Feels so good babygirl, mmmh, so good… - he moaned, while she was still panting and throbbing under him, holding on where she could, letting him go – I'm 'bout to come, lemme fill you up, I need it, I… need… it-ah!
Everything around him seemed to go silent for long minutes, only Y/N and her whispers were still there, her soft eyes that never lost sight of him, full of what he wished was love, that tired smile that widened into a perfect "o", while Roman pressed her against him, letting the fire that had burned him slide into her canal, making his nuts dry and cock throbbing. In an animalistic growl he froze inside her, emptying himself with mind suddenly white, feeling her hands pull him down, making his head rest against her breast. Silently, he gave two final, drunken thrusts to make sure there was nothing left with Y/N trying to push his hair back and leaving heated kisses on his temples. Clinging to her, he waited in that position to catch breath, music slowly starting to make sense again.
- I guess I'll have to start from the beginning... - Y/N complained with an amused breath after a while and Roman looked up, observing the mess they had created and then her, who was distractedly tasting some of the icing that had fallen on the counter.
- Need help? – he asked seriously, very seriously and Y/N stopped with a finger still on her lips, a smile growing like something else in him, once again.
A year earlier he had done everything possible to convince her to stay during holidays. Now that she was finally here, now that they were together and with no one and nothing chasing them, he was going to make the most of every second. Santa had his North Pole and later he would have his cookies, but on the Island of Relevancy was him who dictated times.
