gender isn't a choice for many people. there do exist people who made the choice to be a different gender. in fact I would say the very act of choosing a specific label to describe your gender is you choosing how to describe yourself, even if you didn't choose what you are describing. can we stop pretending that there's only 1 way to gender

#nerd alert #this isnt in response to anything recent i saw some comments in the old notes of an old post etc etc #but like one big issue with the idea that you cant choose your gender #its like. ok i know we have clung tightly to the idea of 'you shouldnt persecute trans ppl its not like they can help who they are'#bc that is largely true. oppressing people based on immutable facts about themselves is objectively bad #but then its like...what about the people who DID choose? do we punish them bc they made that choice?#the answer is no obviously but theres people who dont even get THAT.#i feel the same way about gender as an immutable and unchangeable identity bc thats also a false narrative #i personally had a big gender change when i was 21. i was happy as a cis woman for the first 2 decades of my life #and now im a trans man whos been on T a year and gets more and more excited as my body changes more and more #plenty of people have accepted that societal rules about gender are stupid and outdated #but lots of leftists are still convinced that there are still definitely rules and if you break them then youre in some way Problematic #and Hurting The Trans Community or something #they are wrong. the only real rule about gender is there is no rules. do whatever you want forever
