Get To Know Your Moots Writeblr Interview
I was tagged by @ceph-the-ghost-writer (their post here!) for this ^.^ Thank you very very much my dear <3
apologies if any of you have been tagged in this before, I've been away for a bit, but I'll throw this out to @chauceryfairytales @theprissythumbelina @theroseempress @aalinaaaaaa @serenanymph @scribe-of-stories @scribble-dee-vee @writernopal @rosieartsie @afoolandathief
The blank question template can be found here!
How long have you had your writing Tumblr/Writeblr?
My writeblr has been alive since around 2022 or something. I can’t be 100% sure because I just turned my regular blog into a writeblr one lol
What led you to create it?
Two things – I really wanted people to talk to about writing and I wanted to start taking my writing seriously. Cryptid is my favorite person in the world but he’s not a writer and doesn’t *get it*. I wanted other writers to talk to and be weird with about our stories. And having outside accountability in the form of posting about my story on my blog is exactly the kind of low-stakes drive I needed to keep writing.
What’s your favorite thing about the Writeblr community?
Just how supportive and nice and welcoming people are. It’s really easy to feel like you belong here. And all you have to do is be a little weirdo obsessed with your oc’s, because everyone else is doing the same thing and cheering each other on. It’s truly lovely.
What’s one thing you’d like your mutuals to know about you?
I have what I call a ‘feral cat friendship style’ where it takes me a long time to warm up to someone, but once I have you will *never get me to leave*. I’ll start leaving dead mice & memes at your door, just you wait.
Is there anything you’d like to see more of on your dash?
I genuinely love when people are just Weird about their characters. It makes me more interested when people pop in just to say “character x would eat Weetabix with no milk for breakfast” because now I need to know what the hell is going on with that character. I don’t even care about the important facts anymore. I just want to know what weird little thoughts y’all have about your ocs.
What tips/advice do you have for someone who made a Writeblr today?
Completely unoriginal but honestly just be yourself and have fun. There’s no point in anything if you aren’t enjoying it. Follower counts don’t matter, the number of likes or reblogs you get don’t matter. All you gotta do is start posting about your writing. If you want to make friends, the easiest way to do that is to join in on tag games or the weekly ask games writeblr plays. (tag games are also great ways to find more people to follow.)
WIP It Good
Which Works-In-Progress (WIPs) or writing projects are you noodling about, lately?
My big writing project is Shapeshifter. It consumes all of my waking – and some of my sleeping – thoughts. But within that I’ve currently got two stories going: Into the Storm and The Runaway. Both are set in the same world and have some overlap of characters, but The Runaway takes place about 5 years after Into the Storm. It’s fun because ItS is more of a typical urban fantasy mystery/intrigue while Runaway is hardcore a romance story. Switching genres while in the same world is really fun.
How long have you been working on them?
Technically, I’ve been working on The Runaway since 2014/2015. I made one of the main characters, Dean, around then, but I didn’t do a lot with him or the world until 2019 when I ‘officially’ started the Shapeshifter project. I usually lean towards saying I started it all in 2019, unless I want to be dramatic and talk about the ‘full story’...
Do you remember what inspired/what got you started?
Ah, dammit, the full story it is. SO. Baby K was really into internet rp forums as a teen, and had just graduated to one-on-one rp. Along comes a girl who wants to make an rp about shapeshifters – humans who can turn into many types of animals – and Baby K could not be more enthused about this idea. That’s how Dean and Temperance got started, and where they remained for many many years. Eventually not-so-Baby K gets tired of the girl they’re rping with contributing absolutely nothing to the worldbuilding and strikes off on their own.
I joke that I took Temperance in the divorce. It’s okay though, that girl will never read this and if she does she can talk to my lawyer about it.
How much time, in your best estimation, do you spend thinking about them?
All of it? I plastered my bedroom/office walls with Shapeshifter. I plastered my *ceiling* with Shapeshifter. I bought stickers for the laptop I’m currently typing on that remind me of Shapeshifter characters. I am deeply, deeply mentally unwell about this story.
When someone asks the dreaded, “What do you write about,” question, what do you usually say?
I’m working on an urban fantasy story about three shapeshifter friends who inadvertently become ‘fixers’ for their community when the authorities turn a blind eye.
What do you want to say (if it’s different from what you do say)?
I spend the majority of my life writing about three queer disasters who also happen to turn into animals sometimes, and the problems they get into that are only occasionally due to the fact that they turn into animals sometimes.
Let's Rotate Blorbos
Name any characters you created.

Just in Into the Storm there’s: Kerr McKay, Warrick Salehrad, Jay de Lange, Carlisle Morrish, Reese Tucker, Lex Causey, Gabriel Beckham, Portia Beckham, Kanda Salae, Mayuri Salae, Aleksei Rybkin, Jaime Sheridan, Mags, Lucian Bardem, Rose MacGinnis, and Enora Nolan. For now.
Who’s the most unhinged?
Depends on what kind of unhinged you’re looking for. The fun kind? Warrick. The ‘actively harmful’ kind? Lucian Bardem.
Who comes the most naturally for you to write?
Kerr, Jay, and Warrick. These three live in my head so much that sometimes they commentate my life. It’s not nearly as entertaining as it sounds.
Do you ever cringe at them?
*Constantly*. They are disaster people. I love them.
How much control do you feel you have over your characters?
About 60%? I know where the story needs to go and what I need the characters to do, but I leave them a lot of room to decide how they want to get there.
Do you enjoy people asking questions about your characters?
ABSOLUTELY. Ask me all the weird questions. I’m slow to answer because my life is hectic af, but I love getting questions about my idiots.
On Writeblr Engagement
What makes you want to follow another Writeblr account?
I’d say ‘vibes’ but that’s a copout answer. I don’t go off someone’s intro much besides seeing what genres they’re into and if they’ve got any glaring red flags for something I might not like. Mostly I notice new writeblr accounts because one of my mutuals is interacting with them and they seem cool. Then I do a quick scroll through their blog to check out what they do/interests they have/how they interact with others. Like I said, it’s vibes.
What makes you decide against following?
If someone is too self-absorbed – ie doesn’t interact with anyone, talks about their work like it’s the next Great Novel That Will Change The World. I don’t want to deal with that in my tumblr space.
Do you interact with non-mutuals often?
I try? I’m not very good at remembering to look outside my little circle, especially when the burnout and anxiety are bad. Like now...
Do your mutuals’ characters occupy space in your noodle?
I’m sewing dolls based on my mutuals’ characters. They’ll have multiple outfits and tailor-made accessories. I’ve had *dreams* about some of my mutuals’ ocs. I can be just as mentally unwell about my mutuals’ characters as I am about my own.
#tag games#i've fully given up on pretending i'm not just some strange feral creature#and i think my answers reflect that

🔥: I don’t really understand people who get mad when their mutuals aren’t interacting w/ them all the time or right away. Like people who curate their dashes to just EXCLUSIVELY be people they actively write with are valid, sure, but thats not me ! I think its okay to follow people you don’t actively rp with. I don’t like to give people a dead-line on when they can / should interact with me before I punt them from my blog. If I follow someone back or even just follow someone, sure, I have the intention of interacting should the stars align, but it doesn’t have to happen right away. I might follow someone for months without interacting & I’m cool with that.
I only soft-block people I know I’m never gonna write with & thats more because I don’t want them to have their hopes set on some sort of interaction that's never gonna happen. I honestly wouldn’t mind if people just followed me bc they liked what I was up to here & not because they want to interact. But yeah. I don’t think everyone should have to interact when they follow each other. I think its cool to just hang back for a while or even to just follow someone because you like them / their writing & you just wanna see ‘em on your dash. I have a lot of moots like this, tbh & I hope they’re all as cool with me just floating around on their dash as I am with them SJFHDJFKDFk.
I do always intend to interact at some point but if we’re not interacting rn, I don’t feel pressured & I don't want anyone else to feel pressured to get to interacting right away. It’ll happen when / if it happens & thats fine for me.

Torchwood Soho - the entire VORTEX article

TORCHWOOD HAS had the honour of being populated by larger than life characters over the years. We’ve met Captain Jack Harkness and Yvonne Hartman, plus Gwen Cooper, Toshiko Sato, Owen Harper and Susie Costello on television. And Big Finish has given us Mr Colchester, Ng and Orr – as well as the one and only Norton Folgate.
We had a glimpse of bygone Torchwood in 2018’s audio release, Goodbye Piccadilly, in which Norton dragged his friend Sergeant Andy Davidson back in time to Soho in the 1950s. And now we turn back the clock again to witness Norton accompanied by Andy in Torchwood Soho. Tom Price reprises his role as Andy, joining Samuel Barnett (Dirk Gently in the BBC series) as Norton. Gangsters are vanishing from the streets of Soho, there’s a deadly Nazi secret on the loose, and something’s moving in the smog. Norton Folgate should be sorting this out, but the Torchwood agent is in disgrace. Who’s going to save London this time?

Torchwood Soho – Parasite contains six stories: The Man From Room 13, Meet Mr Lyme, The Mould, The Spread, The Dead Hand and The Liberty of Norton Folgate.
Vortex asks writer/producer James Goss at what point did he think that Andy and Norton should get their own series? James explains: “Actually, everyone’s been so kind about the relationship between Norton and Andy, that it really didn’t take much arm-twisting to convince Big Finish to let us spend three blissful days in studio with Sam and Tom.
“The fabulous thing about Torchwood as a franchise is that it spans a huge period, and there are chunks of it that are just worth exploring. We vaguely glimpsed 1950s Torchwood in the Doctor Who TV episode, The Idiot’s Lantern, and this new release is a real peep under the murky, awful bonnet.”
James has been particularly pleased by the reception Norton has had from listeners: “Thrilled, blown away, boggled – and that’s just in reaction to some of the fan art on Tumblr! Seriously, it’s weird to have sort of created a Torchwood character that wasn’t on TV who the Big Finish listeners are dying to hear more of and who has a following of his own. I’d love to say it’s all down to the writing, but really it’s down to Sam’s performance and his rapport with Tom. They’re just audio magic, aren’t they?
“As it’s set in the 1950s, it was obvious to follow the rhythm of the Quatermass serials – so there are six half-hour episodes. And, in the tradition of Quatermass, we start out in an office and end with the world in peril.
“We get to see Norton hunting down alien artefacts stolen by Nazis, escaping from a timetravelling pub, and battling zombies in Margate. We get to meet Norton’s boss (played by Dervla Kirwan) and the hapless leader of Torchwood Soho (David Troughton) – who both share a terrible secret. And we get to discover why Torchwood hid the Skylon at the Festival of Britain. Norton’s also trying to avoid the attentions of a journalist (played by Joe Shire) who is determined to uncover what Torchwood is. Norton’s in a whole lot of trouble – and this time he needs Andy to help him.”

Scott Handcock has been responsible for directing the series. How did he find bringing this volume – effectively a period piece – to life? He grins: “Maybe it’s just because I’ve done a lot of Doctor Who, where you’re constantly flitting all over space and time, but I’m not sure I really register the difference! Obviously, you’re aware of the period and need to convey that in the world you build and characters you cast, but it’s the same approach as creating a civilisation of reptilian aliens in the far future. The script sets up the rules and everyone plays by them. If anything, period pieces are often a bit easier because everyone has a frame of reference. Though having said that, it also means you have to really do your homework.
“The 50s is a fascinating period. Yes, you have a bit more Received Pronunciation – especially with Norton, who throws in a dash of Polari every so often – but there’s a lovely mix of characters in this script, covering various classes and backgrounds. Belle Epoch (gloriously portrayed by Franchi Webb) is a character who you could probably only bring to life in this era. People own those identities more – a lot of them are hiding things and putting up barriers – which makes characters like Andy and Gideon more relatable as our identification figures.
Tom Price is delighted that not only does Sergeant Andy continue to feature in Torchwood, but he’s also a series lead. He admits: “The listeners really like what Big Finish is doing with Torchwood, which means we can rock up and do more. It’s amazing that the world of Torchwood has been built on good foundations and we can keep adding to it.
“I watched The X Files back in the day, and Star Trek: The Next Generation, as they can reboot and keep going forever and ever. If something is built well, it will last, and that’s exactly what’s happening with Torchwood. It’s got a good engine, and you can tweak it here and there so we can take the cast and put them into a new setting.
“Norton is such a great personality – he was never on TV and I think Sam Barnett is slightly annoyed about that! Characters like him have just got that thing, where they’re big and funny and very memorable.
“I love our team of Scott and James. James is a magnificent writer – he has such a brilliant ear for a story and putting these worlds together. If he was writing music he would be Guy Chambers! And Scott understands the characters better than you or I do. A lot of directors throw way too much stuff at you, but Scott has a good hand on the tiller and will give you a couple of points that can change your performance. I just love going into this created world, and having such fun.”
SCOTT ENJOYS the dynamic between Sam and Tom, in particular. He says: “I think it’s fair to say that Sam and Tom hit it off instantly. Even before Ghost Mission (their first Torchwood together), they met at the recording of Doctor Who: Nightshade and it was clear they enjoyed working together – and that’s only grown the more we’ve done. There’s a shorthand between them that comes from having recorded a lot together, and that trust means they can push the material further. It also means when we get new characters coming in, and the actors see what Sam and Tom are bringing to it, they relax and feel able to give that little bit extra, which is kind of what you need when you’re projecting an entire performance through your voice.”
Scott adds: “It’s a lovely change of pace for Torchwood. I remember the old BBC Sexton Blake dramas, and that slightly pulpy, serialised style they had, so when James first mooted this I suggested we do it as a six-part serial of half-hour episodes. It moves along at one hell of a lick! And as always with James’s scripts, the humour is contrasted with some genuine horror and drama. It’s a really strong character piece and, as a director, has some fantastic set pieces that test you as you leap around the schedule. One of the biggest highlights was getting Dervla Kirwan in to play Lizbeth Heyhoe. She fell in love with the script and said it’s absolutely the kind of part she’d never get seen for on screen – and we just had an absolute blast. It was our first Big Finish together, though obviously when I had to recast Miss Quill in Class, she was my immediate first choice. She’s simply amazing. The entire cast just got it…”
And James concludes: “Honestly, it was just three days of bliss in a studio with a great set of actors.” VORTEX

7 is considered a lucky number, no?
I’m naming chapters now btw; this one is called, “in which there’s improvised sex ed?” it’s not meant to be a joke btw because there is, indeed, period talk
“Aaare you done?” comes the question from beyond the door right as the bells start ringing outside. The tower is right in view from where he stands, so he can tell that it's apparently half past nine. He cannot believe that they wasted over an hour with shenanigans and idle chitchat. She surely gave him more than ten minutes, too. Not that he wasted the extra time; he put away the clothes that didn't make the cut, after all, and also made her bed while he was at it. She needs some order in this room, every flat surface that's not the floor is a catastrophe. Sheesh.
“Yep, you can come in,” he sighs, placing Kikoku on top of the clothes resting neatly on the end of the bed.
“Oh...” Kat looks surprised to find said piece of furniture looking so organized. “Thanks, you really didn't have to.”
“Eh, had enough time to kill.” In fact, he was already ogling the haphazard book pile on the cabinet a minute ago. “What took you so long anyway?”
She looks to the side, then back at him, then down. “Well, before I came over... um...” Sigh. “It's dumb and kinda irrelevant, to be honest,” she says finally, scratching her neck.
An incredulous but understanding 'okay' is all that he can answer to that. He also had something dumb happen to him that he couldn't solve, after all. Might as well inform her. “By the way, just so you know... I didn't even try to change your underwear.” Is what it is, had no idea where to look, and he's not one for going commando, either.
She slaps her temple, almost flinging the hat off. “Damn, I knew I forgot something.” Before he could answer, she presents him a pair of shoes that are, just by appearance, a lot more comfortable than what she had on. “Will get some stuff asap. And here, you take these instead of the fancy ones.”
He's more than happy to ditch the cute shoes for action ones. Something hits him on the head- she just threw a pair of socks at him.
“Get rid of the cheap nylon socks and put those on,” she instructs while digging into what looks like a textile bag inside a drawer. “I'm gonna go ahead and not put anything extra regarding panties for you.... like this one.... I need to get rid of the lace ones...” she mutters to herself.
Now, he doesn't know what kind of stuff she has, but he's getting worried nonetheless. “Um... those are really not that... necessary.” She's yet to mention bras, thinking about it... well, she definitely wasn't wearing any with the dress. Not sure if he should be happy or more concerned, though. On one hand, this is definitely the more comfortable alternative, on the other... having two wobbly humps all of a sudden is weird and distracting, even if they are small. He'd rather they stayed put...
“Sssh... it's okay, gotcha. They aren't that necessary, you can use your own junk.” She says waving a few other pair of socks trying to calm him down, then slams the drawer back on the curious bags made of some fabric.
“Um... wording,” is what he says after staring at her. It doesn't take her long to take an immature snort at that- and here he was already thinking she actually was taking these issues as a maturely as possible. Never mind.
“Unless, of course,” she adds, “you cannot fit your trunks on me. Then it's a moot argument.”
He's about to make a snide remark, but then he realizes something else. She knows what's under his jeans...
“Wait, when did you...?” He should probably be less alarmed by that because of the circumstances, but still.
“I was late because of a loo test run, man.” She blurts out, tossing the couple of socks on her bed. “Needed some mental preparation, alright? And puh-lease, I know the color and shape of what you have on right now. As do you.” She adds, being aware of the fact that she's way too amused by this; that, and his rosy cheeks. He's likewise displeased with her being entertained... try to adult this, woman. This reminds her of something important, though, something that stifles her smile... shit, when was the last time again? At least two weeks ago... no, as of yesterday, it's been... three...
“Oooh...” Is the only thing she can muster as it dawns on her. He's left wondering in the room as she takes another quick detour to the bathroom. Coming back, she's holding an opened package of something in her hand. “Stay strong... but if I can't get you back really soon, you will need these.” She says in an empathetic voice, giving the thing to him.
It's pads.
“Oh.” Okay. He kind of didn't even think about this aspect of the issue. And now that he did... he'd prefer to forget about it altogether. All he can think of are worst case scenarios.
Seeing the disgruntled expression of internal panic and how he's standing there frozen, she decides to enter Extra Personal mode. Time to be unnecessarily honest with a near total stranger, today with some weighty reasons to boot. Leaning onto a knee with one hand so she's about eye to eye with her own body, and lightly putting another on his shoulder, she speaks up:
“Law, a little heart-to-heart, if you please... while we are alone, okay?” She seems to have his attention, there's nothing more to ask for. She takes a deep breath, looking for a starting point. “First things first, the PMS business... I rarely have bad cramps, so you probably won't have to drug yourself into oblivion, and even if it really was that bad, I'd rather you asked me about my usual method first. Then, the first two or three days are a literal bloodbath. The sludge does feel really fucking weird, and often uncomfortable, and it's still like that twelve years down the road, so it will probably hit you harder. Pad accidents where the thing doesn't quite align with the goo just... happen sometimes. Don't sweat it, proceed as if the stains just didn't exist until you can change. Any of this bullshit can easily ruin your day- needing more space or being clingy on them days is a-ok. Keep hydrated, eat sweets if you need to, and change these bad boys every few hours to minimize feeling gross,” she finishes, tapping the near-full package. “How-to is included on the wrapping. Any questions?”
“Nope.” None he can think of. She said everything he'd ever need to prepare for, some of which he was well aware of anyway. The detailed rundown and comfort on his shoulder did help make the likely extra ordeal less intimidating, though.
“Okay... if you need anything, ask me or any of the girls, really.” So far, so good. She wants to address something else, too, however. “Now... let's talk about another thing that seems to be bugging you. Please, just be honest here... do I appear to be the bigger person about... all of this?”
He's certain she doesn't actually need him to confirm this. All this time, he's been as stiff as a board and was a brat about a short trip. There's little he can say to defend himself. Meanwhile she's been the same as before, with a dash of altering smug and aloof.
Yes, she does; this, he acknowledges with a nod.
“Alright... then, let me tell you this- you don't have to believe me, but listen... I know exactly how you feel. Like, I was late because I had to go to the toilet, right? And guess what, I needed my own ten minutes just back there before using the fucking thing. As soon as it will be bath time and it comes to stripping? I'll back out immediately and postpone it until who knows when. Except I shouldn't do that, because it's not my body to get smelly and gross, and you will also take care of mine. You as a doc have the advantage of being more desensitized towards naked people, but that's no excuse. Oh, and dare I say we do enter the 24-hour limit of me going to work, and I still have your body? I'll be freaking the fuck out. Won't get an ounce of sleep all night. I... know I look as if I was over it with a shrug, but it's the calm before the storm. I'll be fucking dying in due time, even if I don't meet anybody who wants you dead.” Having all the small worries that have been piling up out, she needs a minute to come to a coherent conclusion. He's waiting patiently. “We both are in a pickle here, so... let's not be afraid of kicking each other in the shin when necessary... and take care of each other, alright?” she says finally, straightening herself.
He can't help but let a lenient smile creep itself onto his face; her mixed personality of silly and earnest is rather charming. Sounds like a plan. “You know... forget what I've said at the entrance. You actually are pretty good at pep talk once you get going.”
It's her turn to blush while fidgeting her fingers; “Heh... thanks.”
He sighs- seeing himself act like that is not getting any less weird, though.
#Kate writes#this is the second shortest chapter too... I wonder how much extra I'll add to the next one#otherwise that's also p short right now#but hey the 3 in one would have been way too much. also we'll finally leave the fuckign house#will have taken.... 5 chapters#KMKY
