Note
The United States generally gets over a thousand tornadoes annually. In addition to other weather events and considerations that the previous replier mentioned. (Also, side note, have you not stopped to consider that the people living in houses made of cheaper building materials might generally be doing so out of necessity and economic pressure rather than overt stupidity?Where I live, the ability to reside in an older brick home is considered a luxury.) Hope this helps.
i am not criticising the people buying or living in the houses. i am criticising the people building the houses, and the hyper capitalist culture that leads to profit being prioritised over quality, durability and safety. i am also not saying that this is a problem exclusive to the us (hell, google grenfell tower) it’s just that the corner cutting is incredibly transparent in usamerican houses—laughably so, hence the silly little post.
yes, the us has very extreme weather conditions, both in that it has a huge variety of them and that they can get real bad, but that is partly because it is a fuck off massive country. while there are higher occurrences of extreme weather conditions, that does not make extreme weather conditions the norm. they are not “most” weather. you do not walk outside in july surprised that for the first day of the year thus far you are not being sucked up into a tornado.
hope this helps!
