What I think your Hazbin Hotel fav says about you

Pt. I ; Charlie, Vaggie, Alastor, Lucifer, Angel

A/N: these are entirely my opinions based on what each of the characters have meant for me. i’m a psych major and like doing lil analysis of things so it’s for funsis nothing else XD and i’m writing these with adult personalities in mind ! just fyi

it’s kinda long, fair warning, lots of text.

ᯓ፥Charlie ꪆ

Starting off with the MC herself; I can see her being a fav bc you are the sunshine coded individual that likes to do things diplomatically first, handles situations with words first and foremost as well as enthusiasm and optimism. You’ll always see the bright side of things and like to see the good in people.

So probably relate a lot to her.

You have a tendency to put others way above yourself and your own needs, most of the time unconsciously so.

Maybe you’re the mom-friend of the group. You’re the most caring and giving out of your surrounding friends or family.

Which kinda makes me think you may have a mix of daddy and mommy issues.

However sometimes your kindness is taken for weakness and naivety when that couldn’t be further from the truth. You’re not unaware of the world around you, in fact you’re probably someone who understands a little too good, so you choose to give positivity to the sea of negativity.

You’re highly emotionally intelligent, mature and likely find yourself always taking the reign in things. You’re a doer, determined to see everything you put your mind to to completion, lots of initiative in many aspects.

A WORKAHOLIC. Completely unaware of that aspect tho. Or just unintentionally so. Bc you are so determine on projects you give 120% and don’t stop until it’s completed.

You probably find comfort in her character in some ways; either bc you see yourself in her or strive to find a person like her who will see your redeeming qualities when you can’t, and want to help you grow as a person.

You aren’t a strict planner or someone who sticks 100% with a plan but do like to have an outline at least. Even if you have to improv further down the line at least you have an idea of wtf you’re doing.

So you can also roll with being spontaneous, you can easily think of a loose path to follow and roll with it whenever.

You’re very enjoyable company !! Smile and laugh is contagious, it’s impossible to not feel good around you.

You struggle a lot with imposter’s syndrome so let me be the one to tell you; you deserve good things, you belong in good places and with the people you love and love you back.

You’re likely the person everyone turns to for a voice of reason.

You’re very headstrong, you’re the decision maker in whatever circle you run.

Ms./Mr./Mx. Hyper-Independent™️

You’re likely also the mediator. Are you the middle child in your family?

You’re a perfectionist to a fault, and fear failure. Sometimes you need a little reassurance.

However, you’re an exceptional lover. You’re loyal, attentive, your love language might be acts of service and/or words of affirmation.

Sometimes you’re too strict with yourself, even with others but you mean well.

I’ll just get it out of the way: raging daddy issues

But the kind of daddy issues that come from resentment and anger at a fatherly figure or men that remind you of that fatherly figure.

You neither want fatherly comfort nor find someone that is a good fatherly figure. You don’t need it, you’ve been this long without it so what’s the point ?

Maybe you’re likely even the type of person who comforts others but don’t want/let others comfort you. You don’t need others, others need you.

You value your privacy, very reserved about your personal life. Keeping everything close to the vest do to the load of trust issues you carry.

Definitely into older partners (more specifically older men)

Unless you don’t do dating or physical relationships. In this case you maybe find yourself being the older friend of a group of friends.

You don’t have a parental bone in your body but you have this innate need to make sure others never feel the way you did; alone, helpless. This whether you admit it or not.

Much like our resident Radio Demon you have an appreciation for the entertainment and may take some sadistic pleasure in watching the people you don’t care for fail (especially those who have wrong you in the past).

But if not giving a fuck was an olympic sport you’d be a gold medalist. You are winning the 'idgaf war' every time, bc you don’t need to retaliate immediately when someone does do you wrong either, remaining unbothered knowing that person will do themselves in.

You like to play the long game in some situations, waiting for the right time to make a move.

You don’t have time for bullshit, time costs and yours comes at a high rate. You rather get to the point than run circles. And the biggest pet-peeve is getting lead on in any way just to ultimately waste your time and get nothing out of it.

In most circumstances you don’t do anything without receiving a benefit from it unless it’s the people you truly care about. Everything has a price, a lot of things you do are for self fulfillment (Not in a negative way. You value yourself and know your worth)

You’re also a go-getter. Not waiting around for opportunities to just fall on your lap you go and make your own opportunities and open your own doors.

However one of your biggest flaws is overestimating yourself which ultimately leads you to feel like you failed at something when really you didn’t, you didn’t reach the intended goal even if the outcome was fine. Pride comes before the fall, for sure (And you’re trying to work on it. Kinda).

But you do have an issue with feeling like you’re absolutely invincible no matter what.

You have your own skeletons in the closet. Things you don’t like looking back on, decisions you regret to this day bc they shaped more of your life than you intended. But here you are persevering in one piece. If maybe a little jaded to the world around you, but in one piece. Good job.

ᯓ፥Lucifer ꪆ

You and Alastor fans are two sides of the same coin but with marked differences.

Daddy issues here too, but the ones who actually want a good fatherly figure. One you often find from a mentor or someone to give you affection and/or guidance.

You’re less likely to seek these out in romantic relationships as really what you want is to heal your inner child.

You heard More Than Anything, cried bc it’s a beautiful song than cried harder wondering why couldn’t someone love you like that.

More than anything (ba-dum-tsss) you crave to be protected, you can do it yourself, you have been. But you’re tired. You want someone else to do it for a changed, see you for who you are and love you unconditionally.

I have the feeling you’re the oldest child of a broken home that had to be a 3rd parent at a young age to your even younger siblings and it hurt like a bitch having to leave them once you were able to get out of your parent’s house. But you couldn’t stay there a second longer.

It’s also likely in your upbringing you were seen as the black sheep of the family, whatever the reason may have been. That’s something that still hurts to this day even through the no-contact you’ve likely established.

You have a lot of love to give but often don’t know how to express it or measure it. In the sense that you love too hard or too little, but you care so much. You really do.

And this is why you probably have a lot of people coming to your for a shoulder to cry on, because what you will do is protect the ones you care about the way you wish someone did you in your worse times. This is where your over abundance of love comes the most handy.

BUT behind all of this there’s also a high spirit that can be the life of any party. You have a unique magnetism and easy going personality despite anything that makes people gravitate towards you.

ᯓ፥Angel ꪆ

You have likely been through some awful shit (I’m sorry you had to go through that, me too 🫂) and that has shaped you a lot as a person today.

Probably came out of those experiences a hyper sexual that has to constantly advocate for those of us who don’t cope the same ways others do.

Angel is like a breath of fresh air because for once you get to see a representative whose bad experiences aren’t romanticized or glamorized.

The level at which you relate to him when he yelled “It’s not an act! It’s who I need to be!” was spiritual and it left you a little broken bc you likely use your persona as a shield bc if you don’t laugh you’ll cry

You don’t like letting your past define you but the line between who you are and who’s the persona built for the public keeps thinning more and more.

The trust issues you carry are so deep sometimes you accidentally push people you care about and who care about you away.

Because you do care, so much but it’s hard to let people in not knowing who’s truly going to treat you well.

Sometimes the only was you let in are the ones who go above and beyond to climb the tall thick walls you’ve put around yourself.

But life has made you strong, resilient. You know how to defend yourself and you take no shit from anyone.

You either want Angel’s rambunctious confidence or you have it and know how to work it. (work it 💅)

Don’t forget you’re more than what you can offer people. There’s genuine value in you as the person you are, not for what you can offer.

Episode One this is single-handedly bringing back my obsession even though it never left

- its 2022. Why is everyone freaked out bc a girl wears all black. Like people do that on a daily basis nowadays

- PUGSLEY POOR GUY :(

- “I want names” didn’t you JUST see them walking away from the locker

- Stop shoving him in a locker tied up is actually so mean wtf

- I see people use this piranha scene as justification that she’d be okay with murder, but really it’s justification that she wouldn’t be okay with people hurting her friends and those she cares about AT ALL. She’s trying to KILL these guys just for bullying their brother. Imagine what she’d do to Tyler for hurting Eugene and Enid.

- The intro is SO fucking cool

- Emma was so far down on the list of actors and now my girl is #3 behind Jenna and buscemi. She’s a main character now B)

- If I were Wednesday I’d be pissed too. I CANT with the parents. Like I love you but RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER 😭

- It’s five minutes in and I have so many notes

- Have to say again with the “terrible, they’d know I didn’t get the job done” that Wednesday is MORBID, not okay with murder unless she deems the person deserves it

Which also means that he knew what he was doing when he killed Kinbott, leaving her alive to taste her fear. And he knew what he was doing in the forest when he tried to kill Wednesday and nearly attacked his father)

- Them bonding is so cute 😭 this is rekindling my obsession

- Notice the immediate disrespect from Tyler but Enid gets close with thing so quickly

- So Wednesday gives Tyler a time and place and you’re telling me it’s just a coincidence that those three pilgrims show up at that exact time at place? Literally there WAITING? No way. Tyler had to have told them, sorry about it.

- I lowkey feel bad for Weems. She’s a little controversial but she was just trying to do her best for nevermore

- Nah man that was an absolute ploy. There’s no way they just happened to know where to be. Tyler was trying to keep her from leaving. He already knew who she was by then and that they needed her.

HCs: HL Characters reacting to an MC who wears a mask to hide their scars after the dragon attack

Note: A little self-indulgent since my MC wears the ceramic mask (fav cosmetic tbh) throughout most of my gameplay so far. Although I gave her the scars in the customization screen at the start,,,,I like the idea of her gaining them after the dragon attack and using the mask to hide them.

First time writing these guys so enjoy!!

Characters: Amit, Garreth, Poppy, Ominis, Sebastian

Amit Thakkar

When he first meets you in Astronomy Class, he's a little unnerved by the mask you wore.

You asked if you could borrow the telescope and he jumps nearly 10 feet in the air when he meets your eyes.

He's also confused, too. Won't it be harder to look through it with the mask on?

Fortunately, you don't have much trouble as you easily identified the constellation (much to his delight).

Then he forgets being afraid of you altogether when you ask him what he saw in the sky, befriending you after class and telling you about the astronomy tables.

While the mask makes you appear emotionless on the surface, your voice tells a different story whenever you both go on excursions to Hogsmeade, meet peaceful Goblins, stargaze together, and work on assignments.

You're genuinely nice and share his fascination with the stars!

It doesn't take Amit too long to deduce that you probably didn't escape that dragon attack 100% unscathed and likely had burns/scars to show for it (and prefer not to).

But he won't ask about it unless you're comfortable, respecting your choices to keep the mask on.

Garreth Weasley

He thinks your mask is neat tbh. Hardly asks any questions about it.

Since you only really see each other in potions class, he thought you only wore it to protect your face from potential explosions.

So he lets you take the lead in stirring if you're paired-up...just in case the cauldron's contents are being particularly volatile.

Basically made you a human shield until you point out to him that your eyes are unprotected.

Professor Sharp has def deducted Gryffindor points for this bc he only ever sees Garreth slacking off.

He does wonder how you drink the potions, though, esp after learning you still wear the mask outside of class.

The time you both had to kill spiders for their fangs, he blinked once and suddenly you downed an entire endurus potion.

"How did you do that, MC????"

"..I used magic to instantly transport it into my stomach."

You secretly just took a giant swig of it with your mask off while he was distracted gathering leaping toadstool caps, but you like messing with him.

Lucky for you, he never sees your cheeky grin under the mask.

Poppy Sweeting

When you first met her in beasts class, the "wannabe poachers" were harassing both her and Persephone.

But they're immediately creeped out by your mask and walk away after you silently stare at them.

You lowkey scared her initially (considering she never really talks to any other student and this new fifth-year had "mysterious" written all over them).

But she eventually comes to realize you shared similar views about protecting/caring for beasts.

She gained the courage to be your friend not long after that!

You seemed quite distressed about the illegal dragon fighting ring and returning the egg to its mother--in part due to the attack that led to you covering your scars.

It made you rather afraid of dragons in general, thoroughly freaking you out when you came face-to-face with the maternal dragon at her nest.

Poppy takes notice, and reassures you that your fears are valid, especially after learning you wear the mask because of that incident.

She does ponder about it possibly intimidating certain beasts when she learns you've been rescuing many from poachers as of late.

Though you can confirm from your time in the Vivarium that they've all gotten used to your looks and aren't afraid in the slightest.

Ominis Gaunt

Although he can't see your face, he did overhear whispers of the "strange" new fifth-year who wore some "creepy" mask.

He didn't like that kind of gossip, but at the time didn't know too much about you even though you two shared a few classes together.

Then he discovers you leaving the Undercroft.

Despite the rocky start, you both become more acquainted with each other as the year continues.

When you, him, and Sebastian all went into the Slytherin Scriptorium, you tried easing his nerves by talking about what your mask looks like and where you found it.

The next time Ominis visits you in the Undercroft, his wand detects a recent enchantment you've added to your mask (Cushioning III, to be exact) ...and his concern is immeasurable.

"MC, I get you fought an armored troll in Hogsmede, but it sounds like you're deliberately trying to pick fights with them."

"No...I was trying to do a good deed by putting down a troll that this lady tried to "tame"....and it almost shattered my mask. But it's fine now. I'm gonna test it later. I need more troll boogeys anyways."

"Why don't you just buy some off of somebody?"

"....I can't afford any right now."

"Oh, but you can afford to risk your life???"

If this poor guy wasn't already worried about Sebastian dabbling in the Dark Arts...now it's you going around practically begging to get clobbered by a troll's club.

Sebastian Sallow

Honestly? He's all for the mysterious vibes you got going on. From your ceramic mask to your ancient magic that you've shared scarce details of.

Still, he wants to know more.

He gets that the dragon attack spurred you to wear it at the start of the year, but wishes you didn't feel the need to hide your face from the rest of the world.

Nevertheless, he won't push you to reveal yourself.

Anybody who gives you a hard time about it in or outside of class will just get a glare from him (and maybe a small hex as a prank).

Throughout all the duels and fights with poachers, spiders, and loyalists you've both been involved with...he marvels at how your mask never breaks or cracks even once.

He's fully convinced you knew transfiguration long before coming to the school and just turned a very strong piece of armor into a fragile porcelain mask...or maybe it's your "ancient magic" hard at work and you just don't know it.

Whether or not you're in the same house, he thinks that's both clever and deceptive--typical Slytherin qualities.

You'll let him believe whatever he wants about it. It's amusing.

If you learn any Unforgivable Curses, he wonders what you're thinking underneath the mask as you cast them.

Your commands are firm and confident, but what's your expression like?

Are you smiling? Fueled by anger or fear?

꒰ Tell me what your likes and dislikes and fav things to do in your past time ꒱

Likes: Draw digitally, watch productive videos, study whatever piqued my interest (Right now it's Nihongo, discover my own "Branding", study Adobe software, and how to draw digitally even better), play videogames (gacha most of the time and multiplayer games with my friends + lil brother!!!), spend time with my little brother, listen to my playlist while walking home during dusk (it's just pretty and fascinating to see the colors compliment each other so well) (same with stargazing while in a road trip back home as well!), hug the peeps I cherish with consent (it's just so warm/healing), and sleep. Seeing people do the hobbies that they love keeps me motivated and think "I should work hard too!" Eating desserts with one or a small circle of friends is one of my favourites too! And I treasure those moments a lot.

Dislikes: I don't like it when people speak very ill of the people I care about. It makes me angry. MATH. I HATE MATH (I can only gaze in awe at those who can do calculus and mental arithmetic). I also don't like it when people decided to be dishonest when they can just talk to me in a straightforward manner (I prefer a frank approach than being lied to). But most of all... I don't like drinking alcohol. It reminded me of... something... from the past...

꒰ What would you describe yourself as/ how people describe you ꒱

I'm an introvert, straightforward, and honest, and because of this, I straight-out tell the people I care about how special they are to me privately or in an open environment, but the one who gets easily flustered when they try to compliment me. The type of person who won't hesitate to be really serious at times (especially when I needed to be strict to accomplish a task) and the one who managed to stay calm/joyful at extreme rides inside amusement parks as my friends quiver in fear. My MBTI told me that I'm an INFJ though. However, whenever I ask my friends about what they think of my personality, they appreciate my determination despite my timidness, punctual, and genuine wholesome personality. Maybe the fact that I hug them a lot (w/ consent) at school became a factor lolol. I just want to appreciate their existence and make them feel special/important (cuz I know they're facing something they can't open up to anyone just yet.). It's the least I could do as their friend :3

꒰ The last book you read or the genre you mostly read ꒱

The last book I read was 4 years ago... Soman Chainani's "The School for Good and Evil: Book 1." I still want to accomplish my list of books though (classical literature & horror genre books at that too, since I want to compare/observe the book and their movie adaptations to see if the previous research and learning I had from multimedia subjects have any use). When it comes to manga, however, I read anything that catches my eye (especially when it has a good art style). Blue Period is my number 1, next is "Blue Lock" and then, "Witch Hat Atelier."

꒰ Your insecurities (if you want to, no pressure!) ꒱

Err... it's my tendency to have low self-esteem and the fact that I don't have a solid statement to answer the question "what are my standards to look for in a guy?" I'm still in the middle of figuring it out so I only answer those questions with "I love 2D husbandos/ikemen. Do you see this character?? I love him a lot!" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

No worries about making it long! Honestly, I’m glad to be learning new things about people and expanding my book reading (i'm learning of new authors here) and the way i'm able to relate to some a lot of you (like i like digital drawing as well and blue period! and honestly- color coding and gazing at stars too !!) … Oml, Oliver hasn’t showed up in 4 months and now I finally get to see him in Germany vs Ubers match (;´༎ຶД༎ຶ`) *cue ugly sobbing*

Vibes I get from this relationship - fitting in spaces and awkwardly geeky (its really adorable) He is a golden retriever who isn't afraid to bite. He is a human calculator - literally in charge of Kaiser's bills and I'd like to think that he knows about software, looks like a secret boy genius behind kaiser. he also doesn't like speaking ill about people he knows (that one time Kunigami spoke ill of Kaiser and he was pissed) he is passive aggressive and looks like oblivious... but looks can be deceiving and he is sharp. He also appreciates digital art and here's what it looks when he does -

Let me see what you've got." you said, placing the stylus in his large hands. Taking it awkwardly from you, he began to draw from what looked like a coconut tree, making you giggle. "Is that a coconut tree?" "Mhm." he responded, drawing a 'v' near it. "And is that supposed to be a bird?" you asked, pointing at it. He said nothing as you watched him drawing random things across the page that included a football. Taking the pen from him you drew a smiley face with messy hair and placed the tablet near his head, laughing as he turned his head to the side. "This looks so much like you." you chortled as he gave you a look of disapproval. Tossing the tablet aside on the sofa, he pinned your arms by your head, figure hunched over you. "Why don't you make a whole picture of me? Maybe without clothes to get in the way. What do you say... artist? " he said, leaning in close to your ear, voice dropping to a low octave, teeth biting the outer shell of your ear. "Draw me like one of your french girls?"

I usually play videogames with no audio cuz when I have it on I get easily bored. For example last month I started pokemon sword and tbh never played it with vol on and when I did that for the first time I was like “? Why the sounds are so annoying?”. Idk probably I’m weird but I get easily overwhelmed with sounds. It’s kinda funny because when I listen to music I listen to black metal/rock in general. But when I’m busy drawing things I like to listen to true crime podcasts. Yeah I’m one of those obsessed with serial killers cases.

And yeah, fear and hunger is just straight up hard. I was surprised the first time but I’m still trying to finish it (I want to die/hj). So far I’m loving sm hades! The character designs are so pretty? Ofc I like Dionysus the most, he was and still is my favorite icon. Just to ask, who’s your fav greek mythological figure? I’m curious. Personally I’m also extremely into the myth of Hyacinth the most. Probably I read too many graphic novels about him ahah. And! Are you perhaps also into egyptian mythology? Since I was a kid I was so obsessed with mummies and the first time I saw one I was so anxious lol.

When I was in school I also had problems at school, mostly because at the time I was the only emo kid and all my classmates were… normal? I liked to dress black, enjoyed spending time writing horror stories and I was a major creepypasta lover. But I genuinely sucked at oral tests. Probably you only had some random quizzes but where I live we also have oral ones. And I fucking hated to speak in front of people. So drawing during classes was a sort of stress relief to my anxiety! So I completely get you :(

This is funny but I always was extremely talented at singing, although at some point I started to find annoying to perform in front of people. And in general the idea of studying in theater looked “uncool” in my teen years. Now I completely changed opinion and I’m a musical fan lol. My family always tried to push me into trying this world in some ways through the years and only some months ago I finally decided to open up. It’s scary tho. You shouldn’t gave up your dreams. Realistically speaking you can start studying in the future if you really want to pursuit violin! ^^

my family is kinda controlling of what i do, if they dont like that i picked up a hobby or something they let me know, like cosplaying for example i find it really difficult because my dads a little creepy and my mom refuses to acknowledge or be arpund me if she notices that i am and its to the point that it becomes a really big problem in my house so now ive got like really expensive cosplays and o barely do it anymore to keep some peace in my house ueue when i move out ill probably pick up a lot of my old hobbies like cosplay, art, streaming, and music stuff maybe ill even pick back up baking who knows!

im still playing dead space tbh,, its so fun but i just asked my brother a steam question and he closed out of dead space so i just lost a good chunk of progress sigghhhh, i hope your days been going well too though :D tell me if you do anything fun <3

ASK 1. I know you are a Ricky stan, I will talk a little bit about him in this ask. This is the last ask about EJ’s arc.

I will start by talking about something I would have liked to be included in EJ's arc (apparently, initially, the writers wanted, but they didn't go in that direction at all and Idk why bc it would've added more realism to this character; however, they filmed a scene that seems to indicate that (it's in the s1 medley video), but it didn't appear in the show). Idk if you know about the initial character descriptions. I will talk about a specific part of his description: "E.J. is supremely confident but secretly prone to anxiety attacks when anything goes off-plan". Lbr, someone like him who does so many things, with the pressure he feels from his family should have shown signs of tiredness and anxiety (not necessarily anxiety attacks), but at least these 2. I am myself a perfectionist and hardworking person (and I didn't achieve as much as him) and I've recently experienced anxiety attacks during my senior year bc of all that pressure. Maybe there is time to include this in the story, Idk how exactly they will do it (just mention it happened, or sth happens, Irdk). What I know is that this pb should've been explored and should be explored. I am sure that many viewers can relate to that.

Ricky has shown signs of anxiety and I am all in for a plot where he goes to a therapist (this starting with s4; Idk if you've watched Never have I ever, but the plotline with the therapist is very well done (like I'd go to that therapist :)) ) and is one of my fav parts of that show). If that description about EJ turns out to be true somehow, I feel like it will be a great way to make these two bond. A good way they can do this is if it is revealed that EJ went to therapy (I saw that meme with him about lying to the therapist bc of the image he has to maintain and I laughed so hard when I saw it. I can picture him saying something like: "I lied to my therapist for 3 months until he figured it out bc I couldn't keep up with all the lies" :))) ). Ricky, being afraid of change and talking about his family pb mostly with Nini (he tends to open up, sometimes, when he is asked about his pbs, but willingly he went only to Nini), will certainly not like the idea of talking to a stranger about his pbs. Maybe, if he talks to someone who went there, will help him open up to this idea.

I know that they prob won't go in the therapy direction. Ricky already started to accept the situation (ex. the talk with Miss Jenn in 2x12). I feel like his friends will be there for him and he will learn to open up to them and the things will get easier for him by having their support. Anyway, I hope they don't resolve this pb as easily as they did with EJ's "conflict" with his dad. As much as I want to see Ricky being fully happy by accepting the divorce situation of his parents as soon as possible, I don't want this story to be rushed. I want it to be sth gradual. However, I think this season is the start of his happy era.

Some s2 thoughts

Coming back to EJ, another thing that I hoped would've gone a different route is his relationship with his dad. In ep 2x4, from his conv with Nini, you can see that it is hard for him to tell his father about his failure. Also, he looks afraid when he tells his dad about not going to Duke in ep 2x8. So, it was implied that he is somehow scared of his dad. But, in ep 2x11 they ended that storyline (ok, for s2 it ended and I know that story can still be explored) with a few good talks. To me, the conflict was resolved too easily. I guess we'll have to wait and see how this storyline continues.

EJ's arc is also very similar to the arc of the Beast. He started as the bad guy. I saw many ppl talking about what he said in ep 2x10, about the fear of rejection, that he was rejected by Nini bc of his fault. It is true, but they're missing some things. Nini told him that she can't trust him and even after she saw that he was trying to do better (to apologize for everything he's done wrong) she still rejected him in ep 1x10. He knows that everyone knows about his past mistakes. In ep 2x8 he blames himself for them and can't forgive himself. That's why he is afraid of rejection, bc how can sb love him knowing all the bad things he has done.

okay! part 2 of our little series of asks. let's go!

the ej character description involving anxiety attacks... i think the reason they changed that was likely when they made a bunch of other changes, including we know that when they cast josh as ricky, they made alterations to his character (and since he was the first one cast, they may have changed others to fit better with what they changed about ricky). i would be willing to bet that either a) with the anxiety factor that josh brings to his portrayal of ricky bowen, they thought it was better to keep this mental health aspect to one character, and not make ej too similar to ricky in that sense, or b) that disney wasn't ready to go there. but for the first point- they really don't want these two characters- rivals on their face in season 1, to look too close to one another where the lines get muddied. ej being very different from ricky makes him a far more attractive option to a nini who's trying to be entirely a new person (and entirely over ricky. dating someone who seems like ricky is not very conducive to that).

i did have to look up the medley video to watch it and find what you were talking about, and honestly- i really don't remember if i've seen it before or not. i don't know that i have, and if i did it was a LONG time ago. i knew the medley was a thing because of the soundtrack, but i did not know they'd done an almost trailer type thing with it. it gives a lot of focus to the dancers which is cool? (i'm assuming to avoid too much spoilers but y'know- still neat). i'd guess maybe it's from the original pilot though, if you're talking about him sorta collapsing against the lockers looking drained anyway. maybe in relation to not getting the lead, maybe it's to go with his frustration with the whole nini thing later in the season so not in the pilot... idk. we do see him breaking down in his car in front of nini's house in s1, though that's not connected to any potential anxiety i'd say. scenes also just get taken out sometimes, just for time restrictions. who knows...

ej's pressure filled life with perfect grades and lots of high pressure extracurriculars, on top of that presumed need for the duke admission (not technically an ivy but it's close) could for sure make someone stressed out and anxious. to maintain that sort of grade point average can take a lot of work, given the number of aps he'd have to be balancing. idk if they have time to bring that in for ej's character this late in the game, but they could reference it i suppose.

ricky has 100% shown signs of anxiety, and honestly even depression as well, which i could totally make a post about ricky's mental health sometime, but i struggle every day with whether or not i think the show is willing to actually go there. like even if tim wants to- whether disney's down with that. they did go there with jonah in the last season of andi mack (i think it was the last season), and representations of anxiety and mental health in general have improved a good bit, like never have i ever's inclusion of those excellent therapy scenes, and even when katie in alexa & katie (another netflix teen series, so good job to netflix i suppose), has struggles with anxiety. alexa also sees the therapist, but not for anxiety in the way katie does. i still don't know if they're going to do it or not. also yes- i have seen love never have i ever, i love that show so much and i'm genuinely so excited that they're the ones the cast is facing on family feud.

ricky does struggle with opening up to people, in some ways not wanting to burden them with his problems, but also it is of course an issue of he doesn't know these people too... so that makes it harder. plus- he doesn't even talk to big red about stuff usually, it was always nini. like you say- he does open up to some characters when asked, gina for example, but he doesn't freely share with anyone but nini. and he even struggles to talk to her a bit at times. talking to a therapist would for sure be tough for him in that sense, bc it's a complete stranger. if ej has gone to therapy, that could for sure be something where ej could be like listen dude it can really help you. and even though ej and ricky aren't particularly close, maybe ricky would try listening to him, given he listened in 2.10 when ej mentioned letting nini go was a good choice. (though that was self reflective on ricky's part and not ej giving ricky advice)

i wish they would've kept lily on to a greater extent this season, because i think that would've been a really smart choice to help him get through the divorce / his parents dating again thing. but i agree that ricky maybe starting to rely on his friends a bit more in general could be a positive development for him. idk if that's something they do this season or not. i agree that he's not there yet, but he's making positive steps in the sense of giving miss jenn his blessing to date his dad. even though we all know that's for sure going to be sucky for him to watch. i never know whether to expect this show to let ricky be truly happy- my inclination is usually no- but hopefully he'll have more than his season 1 total of 51 seconds of happiness at least lol.

ej's college thing was lowkey his only personality trait in the first few episodes and then they really didn't use it as much as they could've at the same time especially in that latter portion of the season. i do think they could've given a bit more to the dynamic with his family- given what he says in 2.04 about how is he going to tell his dad... and of course in 2.08 that sense of trepidation... idk if ej's so much afraid of his dad as he is afraid of disappointing him / breaking the family tradition, etc. but that's not established super well by the show so lbr it's up for interpretation. they didn't exactly entirely close the door on the story- though they did wrap it up with that moment where ej said he and his dad have had some good conversations. with ej likely considering what he actually does next, we could see more of him thinking about what his family will think of this pursuit he winds up going for.

they could've done a lot more, particularly in the career day episode. and as much as gina wearing the duke sweatshirt (which was very much not the duke sweatshirt- that continuity was not done well) was a decent moment for the ship in question especially bc it added layers to the jack thing and such, if they had ej and ashlyn exploring childhood memories and ej with his duke sweatshirt sort of... thinking about his past and his future together it could've been a really powerful thing. (this could be another post lowkey i'm getting ideas...)

i do think ej and nini's relationship failing was a culmination of a lot of things... the actual dissolution that happened when it did was in fact his own fault for overstepping some serious boundaries. but let's be honest- she didn't love him like she did ricky and that was always going to be an issue whether ej violated her privacy or not. i'm proud of her for breaking up with him when she did and then standing her ground on it though. too often disney expects these things to be brushed off and forgiven. good luck charlie's spencer the two timer comes to mind. (not comparing the actions taken, just the concept of betrayal and then fawning over the same guy later like it's no big deal). maybe i'm mostly proud of the writers for not doing that- rather than nini. but also nini. i think it's fair that even after someone works to improve themselves, you don't have to take them back. and i think nini can see ej's improvement (like she clearly has by 2.04, given they seem civil if not friends in their little convo), without feeling like she could trust him as her boyfriend because he broke that. (and again- she doesn't like him enough to want him again anyway.)

i'm going to ask really quickly- what do you mean when you say nini rejected ej in 1.10? like yes she got with ricky in 1.10 but- i don't think ej was still trying to pursue nini romantically in 1.10? so she couldn't have rejected him? idk. him getting off stage so nini could do the scene with ricky wasn't about a romantic rejection, (in some senses one could consider it ej backing off his romantic rival, but i think the scene is far more powerful emotionally if you see it as ej not needing to be The Lead rather than ej not needing to be with nini.) like it's a better moment for ej's character if it's about ej's growth personally rather than ej not needing to get with nini. as a sidenote i hated that whole ordeal in a theatre sense because what in the heck are y'all doing talking out of character while performing and stopping the show while the orchestra confusedly vamps... but it was sweet. and also it gave us the rini breaking free scene which was- truly the most iconic thing. i miss them.

for your last point- about the reason ej's afraid of rejection being about his past history of mistakes... i think that plays a part in it, but i do think the reason we talk about nini a lot with this is because the interpretation i got of his character is that she's probably the first person to ever actually reject him / be the one to call it off / not say i love you back when he says it... he has a hard time forgiving himself for his past, and i don't want to downplay that, but i don't think we can say he'd be beating himself up for all of those things on the same timeline if he hadn't had to face that consequence of nini breaking up with him for the phone thing. i think his inability to feel like someone can love him for who he is is hard to separate out from his fear of rejection, they're for sure intertwined, but i do think they're slightly different.

i think ej becoming more self assured again over the course of this season is looking quite likely- but whether he goes down again first will be interesting to see. i'm really curious to see if we see any regression from him this season, given this is the probably the same summer camp he poisoned emily pratt with the deviled egg at. at the very least, he's going to be confronted with that fact when he goes, and that can lead to some really interesting trajectories for his character if the writers decide to go there. he was Mr. Popular when he last was at camp too- the guy who potentially had a new girl every summer... it's going to be interesting for sure. i'm so curious to see where they take ej's storyline this season, and i really do hope it's not solely about his relationship with gina because they can do a lot with him outside of that as well. i think there's room for both, but yeah. college is definitely going to be a big focus for his character this season i'd expect, so i'm hoping they go deeper than just college on the surface but college in terms of growing up and stuff. i think they will- but idk how much they'll devote to it over such a short time span.

L = Love Confession: How would they confess to their s/o?

Ariana: I believe she can be more self conscious about how she comes across to others than she lets off, so I believe she would try to read the situations they're in and see if it's appropriate and the mood is right. It would take her a while before admitting her feelings because she'd want to make sure she actually feels a certain way for someone and would be willing to be in a committed relationship with them, and also because she doesn't want to get rejected by someone she would quickly be dismissive about because she didn't know that she'd fully like and accept them anyway. If she feels like she could get away with admitting her feelings flirtily I'm sure she would, because in her mind it seems like a more relaxed approach than walking up to them or looking flustered or saying something "dumb" in front of someone who could quickly become an "enemy" for lack of better term from undermining her or using her to up their position in some way.

Archer: I think that Archer would have similar feelings as Ariana, but with less fear of the "consequences" of rejection and more fear of what to do with his feelings of rejection. When he does admit his feelings he would either take the approach of waiting for the time to be "right" (Outside of work hours obviously and also most likely not in an extremely flirtatious way like Ariana.) and shows up to their residence suddenly or to a planned meet up with flowers. Either way I think that besides often making eye contact and chatting or watching over them or eating lunch near them (Silently sometimes because he's not sure of what to say and decides to say nothing at all.), he would still come off a bit sudden at first to not be harassing at work and to get his feelings in order before deciding to confess.

Petrel: I honestly believe thay Petrel can be a bit flirty, but he never really gets close to anyone or proceeds into a lot of relationship type behaviours often because he knows he's not committed enough and isn't going to pretend to be a "hot shot" who keeps people waiting and wondering or weaves in and out of relationships status like a greasy frat boy. When he does really like someone though I think it hits him like a ton of bricks in the sense that although he smiles at them and greets them, but he gets flustered easily and overthinks responses while he is already engaging and giving a response. It's funny to think that he's just self aware enough to know that he may actually like someone. His grooming habits and amount-of-cologne-to-proximity-of-person-he-likes ratio defidently picks up and he tries to stop by and talk to them as much as possible, even if it's just small talk. He tries to be funny but it may not always work, so he's left to look like he's acting laid back but is cursing at himself on the inside. I think that because he knows that he thinks he feels a certain way for someone and doesn't want to be that "guy who became a close friend but actually wants to canoodle with you and was waiting for your "permission" supposedly" person, he doesn't want you to start confiding in him until you know that he likes you romantically so you don't feel disappointed or confused later about why he listens and spends time with you. He may admit it suddenly during a late night friendly hangout to make sure you know his feelings and position, or by coming up to you with flowers or during a quiet night on the balcony. I don't know if you'd call them all romantic exactly but at least he's honest.

Proton: One could almost say it's like he's testing the waters of thoughts of liking anyone in general to the point of dating, or, not unlike a cat sniffing a piece of cheese to see if there's a pill inside. At first he seems a bit weird or very dissimive of someone he thinks he likes, to the point where he's in their peripheral looking at them often while doing things (With those laser eyes that make you think you did something wrong, are about to get scolded, or just generally makes you self conscious (Do I have a boogie, a zit, or messy hair?)) or his gaze doesn't hold for long when speaking or giving instructions (If he likes someone he works with.). Knowing how precise, analytical, and collected he is though, it's hard to tell that he's avoiding making eye contact because he often shifts his gaze to documents or something around him and back which may look mysterious and almost cunning, but is actually him being flustered and feeling unsure. He tends to come across weird in other ways like you're about to be scolded or shood away, or the way he seems to pop up without a sound out of nowhere (Tries to "act cool" but is accidently ghost walking into a room.) or help complete tasks whether work or personal without much verbalizations outside of relevant questions, and long stares (Wit them lasers again. 🙈) before suddenly departing. It's mostly a lot of odd feeling alone time, even if that alone time is just being the only people in a room at the moment at work. He'll try to make small talk better as time goes on, but for a little while it's curt answers from him and sudden questions about your interests and day that sound like interrogations towards you. When he does feel like he's ready to confess, he'll probably end up settling on going to a museum or having a picnic somewhere secluded and admitting his feelings by the end of the day by taking your hands in his and saying "I like you" or leaning back on the picnic blanket and saying the same phrase. It will probably be the first time he's looked deep into your eyes without you thinking you had a boogie. 💖

danny phantom 14-20 thoughts!! I finished up s1 :D these last few eps were actually really really good!!!

-did. did tucker really just say esperanto was a dead language only spoken as a secret code between geeks. google says around 100,000 people actively speak it. oh my god...it being an auxiliary language doesn't mean its 'just for geeks to speak in code' ...it helps bridge gaps between people who don't have a language in common...

-danny really isn't pulling punches when it comes to fighting the ghost-cop possessed people huh. like he SLAMMED KWAN INTO THE CONCRETE SO HARD. HE THREW PAULINA INTO A BILLBOARD. will that...I mean it WOULD carry over to their bodies non-possessed, right? like if the ghost piloting their bodies gets hurt?? itd be so upsetting to be possessed, lose time, then wake up covered in bruises (and possibly, broken bones??) real horror movie stuff im sure wont be addressed in any way

-tuckers parents seem nice! I like them :)

-WULF IS CUTE AND I FEEL BAD. im so glad the gang realized he was only causing trouble bc of the shock collar walker put on him and helped. also, him wearing that big hoodie with the hood on, and thinking its subtle. we can tell youre still a giant wolfie :) THEN GETTING SUCKED INTO THE PORTAL AAAAH :( anxiously waiting to see Him Again....

-ok. im not saying his bullying is JUSTIFIED, but. dash looked so pleased with the (cute!) poster he just painted, and danny comes thru the wall and spills paint on his nice letterman jacket. his anger is justified maybe 65% of the time so far...(not the way he handles it, but STILL.) at least lancer is stepping in!! and them making a silly little bet was...cute?? until dash pulled out his GROSS UNDERWEAR AND SAID DANNY WOULD HAVE TO EAT THEM???? WHAT THE FUCK MAN. TUCKER WAS SO RIGHT ITS FUCKING WEIRD TO CARRY THOSE AROUND EWWW. THIS KID IS UNWELL. lancer was right, his animatronic setup was SUPER IMPRESSIVE?? hes actually pretty creative. danny meanwhile is stealing the fright knight's design...I hope dash is taking art classes or smth with his sports

-fright knight is the most bestest ghost so far i LOVE THAT DESIGN. I am biased towards knights, and characters with swords, but he fucks so severely. and should sue danny for copyright infringement for stealing his design for his haunted house. if some 14 yr old broke into MY house and stole MY sword, id also be pissed. his evil winged unicorn rules too with its FANGS. and he just CAN SHOVE THE PORTAL OPEN WITH HIS HANDS??? is he the strongest ghost weve seen so far? idk but hes my fav. SOUL SHREDDER IS SUCH A COOL SWORD NAME TOO. ANY NAMED SWORD ALSO FUCKS. 'flaming bedsheets of DEATH' funny king. ALSO he was polite to dash and tucker when just asking for directions and telling tucker 'oh maybe, just a suggestion, maybe be nicer to me and be more respectful :)' I LOOOVE HIM.

-fright knight's murder castle reminds me of the booby trapped murder castle in zexal!! another supposedly 'for kids' show with murder/trap castles! we love that. if you are a dp fan reading this, give yugioh zexal a try. its also got 13-14 year old protags and involves (alien) ghosts. the cardgame is just a vessel for the plot, which is really good. (I just want more people to watch my fav yugioh, man)

-at this point, Danny's ghost enemies are a lot like, I dunno, batman's rouge gallery is the first thing that comes to mind. they all have their own gimmick and unique designs, but most of them are easy to beat after learning the Moral Lesson. I still get excited when any of them show up again, though. 18 is another valerie episode!!!! :D skulker really said you two will get along if I have to handcuff you together <3 and the gym teacher really said, youre married now, have a flour baby! ngl, I'm not really watching this show for the shipping stuff (which I am very scared to look at the fandom for after I finish this watch through- I feel like there's probably discourse/arguing about ships...) but. I'm gonna put my opinion out there. valerie/danny > sam/danny. maybe I just really love the enemies to lovers trope. And the secret identity stuff adds Extra Flavor.

O_O JDSKAFHD. his mom baking them into cookies was the funniest possible result. tbh I dont feel like this is on tucker, if anything the other kid's shouldve been more responsible! He was just taking an opportunity to get that $$ which I respect

-Danny being more understanding of Valerie's situation in the end (helping her at her job, too, and trying to keep that a secret for her!!!) And seeing them work together this ep, and also her letting phantom get her out of the ghost zone...was very sweet. LOVE that. more valerie eps pls

-sam's grandma is hilarious and the most valid member of her family and I love her. thats my grandma now. and tucker covering for sam by dressing as her. thats true friendship <3 also skipping school to go to a goth circus. just bestie things! sam's parents are haters but for all the wrong reasons.

-'my family has controlled ghosts with this for generations!' WAIT. WAIT FREAKSHOW /ISNT/ A GHOST? I didn't expect that...he's just a fucked up guy controlling ghosts? anyway watching danny shoot at police cars and rob banks while mind controlled. its like, the most stereotypical 'bad' things lmao. (tbh an evil ghost circus troupe is a sick concept)

Aaaa thank you so much for the ask ♡ More rambling incoming !! Sorry for the wait btw, I've been both pretty busy and tired ;;

My fav ship(s) for the character

I am not a super big shipper when it comes to James, but there are still some I like more than others soo here goes :

I think Ironwitch is a pretty good one. It's not necessarily a ship I'd search content for but I think these two would work well together ! Glynda is stern and honest and a no-nonsense kind of woman. She has the strenght to stand up to James when he slips or gets too stubborn when faced with the high stakes. At the same time, we've been shown that she cares for him and she knows he's only trying to do what's best for people. She has faith in him but also the ability to stand at his side as an equal. She seems to be the more steadfast of Ozpin's circle : loyal, you know you can trust her, and she will not crumble. This is the kind of personnality that I think James both admire and feel safe with. And the other way around, I think James is a good match for Glynda too. On a day to day basis, he's serious enough to not annoy here, but he's also a softie in some aspects and that's a nice combination to smooth out Glynda's edges.

Ironqrow is a completely different dynamic. The "we're annoying each other" dynamic is not one I'm particularly interested in usually xD But these two certainly had strong & interesting moments so it's a pretty valid ship !! Despite how they might butt heads because of the difference in their upbringing they (prior to V8) clearly trusted each other with their life. Even if Qrow jokes about shooting himself if he had to be one of James' man, when everything goes to shit there is no doubt in his mind that James wasn't responsible. Similarly, while James talks of shooting Qrow for his misbehaviour, when push comes to shove and we meet a tired Ironwood, run ragged by the pressure he's under... the only thing he does is hug him and reiterates how glad he is to see him. So again, they clearly have a lot of faith and trust in the other, and that's solid ground for a relationship.

My least favorite ship(s) for the character

Same spiel as always, shipping kids and adults is a big no from me; so any ships between Ironwood and RWBYJNOR can qualify here. That said, among the less uncomfortable ones, here are those I don't really like

This one is again because I love their relationship but platonically only, I'm talking of Winter Soldier. The reading I like best is not that Ironwood is Winter's Jacques 2.0, nor that he groomed her; but that he was an important father figure in her life. Protective and caring, who tried to help her escape with what he knew. I don't see James recruiting Winter as a way to gain a strong ally. But rather that Winter wanted to detach herself from her family name, and make something worthwhile of herself all on her own. And that the military is what Ironwood knows and understand, so naturally it's a career he'd see as a good path. Just like Winter then proposed it to Weiss. I like to think they care about each other a LOT and they're their own tight family in between the lines, even if professionalism might throw a wrench into it. For short I love them together but not romantically please =)

I don't know if there's a ship name for this, but Salem x James Ironwood would be a big nope from me too... In general, let's just assume I ship Salem with nobody because abuse.

My fav & least fav platonic relationship(s) for the character

Fav platonic relationship would be (have been because we dont talk about V8?) with Winter. Fooor the reasons I've explained above I suppose x) I (again) love the trust they had in one another and the quiet support.

There was also his relationship with Oscar that I really liked during V7, although it has been soured a bit by the (valid) reading from some people that Ironwood sought out Ozpin a lot through Oscar, and given his identity issues it is not ground for a greatly healthy relationship. Their interactions were still very intersting though ♡ I consider Oscar to be the kid who went at trying to appease James' fear or make him reconsider his decisions the best way. There was true understanding and hope for a working relationship here. I do feel that Oscar put in more work than James however (emotionally) and I wish there had been pay-back instead of a gunshot.

For my least fav relationship ? Probably Robyn or Watts ? Robyn was always very antagonistic toward Ironwood since their priorities are so different. And I overall just don't really like her after V7 so there are very few relationships with her I'm interested in (the exception is her ship with Fiona I think it's cute). Meanwhile, Watts is just a petty asshole hell bent on ruining Ironwood because he didn't pick his project. I'm not very interested in hate relationships, and since theirs wasn't deeply explored anyway, it's even more the case here. Their fight was great though, one of my favorite RWBY fights !

My favorite thing about the character

Well this was completely proven wrong by V8 buuut as of V7 I liked that he was a deconstruction of the military general (dictator) trope. Sooo you can guess how i feel about V8 X) In general among RWBY, several of my fav are fav BECAUSE they look like one trope but also have key differences that from the get go make the character stray away from said trope. For example I'm not a fan of the princess tsundere archetype at all, but I loooved Weiss in V1 BECAUSE she was extra-willing to listen and change her mind, and you could very easily tell that it was her upbringing speaking more than herself in most occasions.

Similarly, I wasn't a big fan of Ironwood before V7. I didn't hate him you know and he wasn't lower than most characters in my Tier list but I also didn't particularly care. But you know what ? I've aaaalways had a really soft spot for the "angsty angry traumatized teen". And RWBY made the mistake of extending that soft spot to "tired adults trying their best" (only to repeatedly beat them up/make them villains after making me care about them but what can you do uh)

Soo in general, I loved that Ironwood was trying so hard. I loved that he was tired and in over his head but learning and listening and trying to do good and be better despite his fears. I liked that he told his entourage about Salem and was loyal. I liked that he cared about helping the people above his own image and the way people perceived him. I liked that you could tell this was a terrible situation all around, and his decisions WERE questionnable but we could SEE that he meant WELL and was genuinely trying so hard despite how scared and tired he was.

My biggest criticism for the character

Well this won't be a surprise but in general I just wished he had stayed a morally grey character we were allowed to feel for instead of a cartoon black villain. I didn't need James to be THE Hero or anything like this despite some accusations levelled at those who like him. Him becoming one of RWBY's antagonist is honestly fine by me ! It is interesting. But I'd have preferred they kept him ambiguous and trying in his own way. (And smart because V8 Ironwood was dumb af)

I can be a tad overprotective of his character since he's just... so despised, so I think that I have inadvertently distanced myself from any of his flaws... somehow like "people are already yelling all of them so I don't need to add to this shit show" you know ? skjfkd But I KNOW he has them and it would still have been good to develop his flaws, just... not like that

But yea I'd have liked it if V8 Ironwood DID diverge from RWBYJNORQ and became an antagonist but not an iredeemable villain. LIKE,, we redeemed Hazel and Emerald and IRONWOOD is where the writers draw the line by saying "nope this one is rotten" ?? What ?

When was their writing at the peak according to me (ex : best season)

V7 definitely ! Ironwood carried V7 so hard haha. His character was fleshed out and given nuance and made to struggle and evolve and I loved him in that volume.

A song I think fits them & why

A headcanon to make up about them

His metal parts impact his metabolism so Ironwood is terrible at holding his alcohool and very little manages to knock him out. He's a workaholic. His low tolerence for alcohool is a great tool whn friends need to put him to sleep.

His joints crack and hurt in the cold, his metal parts as well and they are an hassle in the sand. James like to keep his room temperature warmer than the average atlasian because of this, otherwise he has to spend 30 min every morning simply unwiding muscles to move around efficiently.

He's not a good singer but has a nice low voice for telling stories. If he had kids, he'd probably avoid lullabies but compensate with bedtimes stories.

What I would change about them if I was making a re-write

As always, I'm kind of reflecting along the way as I write this, and one thing I'm thinking right now is... Doesn't it take away from the atlas arc message ITSELF to just pile up so many "standard bad guy" stuff on Ironwood ? Like, I wanna ask... why do we hate him ? Is he an antagonist because he lets fear get the best of him ? Because he's a classist who doesn't care about Mantle like some fans argue ? Because he's too stubborn and wants to be THE hero ? Because he doesn't listen to others ? Because he abandonned Mantle ? Because he kills peopke left and right ? Because he wanted to bomb a city ? I think you might see where I'm going with this : his status as villain is kind of messy. V8 just kept piling-up flaws and villainous actions onto Ironwood with no concern for whether this was a lenght he would go to (using the certainty that he would go to any lenghts to enact his plans), ,or whether these were one of the initial flaws/failings that led to his "fall" as an antagonist. What lesson is Ironwood supposed to learn ? Personally the very first time I yelled at my screen "No ! Why would the writers choose that ?" is when Ironwood shot Oscar. When answering criticism against medias, many people tend to look at it only through the lense of "well it makes sense in universe" or as if there were no other ways for the story to devolve. But at the end of the way, everything in a story is a choice from the writer even if it is influenced by the characters' personnalities. If I took the scene where Ironwood shoots Oscar, someone might tell me "he's crippled by his PTSD, he COULD do this." Maybe, that's a reading I can somewhat understand at least. But the writers have the power to NOT put his character in such a position. When I saw the wreck that was V7 finale, I ranted to my bestfriend about it and at no point did i say "why did Ironwood do that", I said "why did the writers make him shoot Oscar, the only point narratively would be to make irredeemable" Aaaand that's what they went for and I obviously didn't care for it. So if I had to rewrite it; I would have kept Ironwood's "mistakes" more focused. If he's wrong because he wants to abandon Mantle, because he's (understandably) scared and doesn't want to take risks; then stay focused on that. It's what makes RWBY leave, and out of all his V8 actions that's really the only thing RWBY needed to tell the whole world he wasn't an ally anymore apparently. - Don't make him shoot Oscar point blank, instead Oscar can simply fall because he flinches away from Ironwood's outburst; and a distraught/guilty Ironwood can decide that he doesn't have the time or capacity to help because of the tense situation. (Killing and not saving someone don't hold the same moral weight at all). - Don't make him kill people left and right or bomb cities, maintain the flaw of Ironwood struggling with his PTSD and his fear and not being able to take risks. - Don't paint him as a black villain, and eventually write V8 in such a way that RWBYJNORQ show taking risks might lead to a bigger victory, which was the volume's theme anyway. For example, following Oscar's destruction of the whale, a growth can occur that would bring back together the two anti-Salem factions : Oscar's risk put Atlas out of harm's way, which leads to Ironwood seeing that maybe there WAS a way to save Mantle as well as Atlas despite Salem's presence and he might have jumped the gun too quickly because of his fears. I'm not sure, I haven't thought about this extensively honestly but I hope you see what I mean. I think it would have been more focused & more in-character to focus Ironwood's failings on his fear; and the fact that he cares for the people and the greater good sometimes at the cost of the individuals. The idea that by sacrificing individuals too much you forget the people you're fighting for in the first place, could have been interesting to dig deeper into. Keep to the idea that Ironwood is somewhat disensitized to the individuals suffering for the sake of the greater good, instead of making him just

callous & uncaring.

My guess for their MBTI/Enneagram

I think pre-V8 Ironwood was an unconventionnal ENFJ. Aka, the type of character no one would type ENFJ because they go by stereotypes and Fe stereotypes are just enneagram 2 everywhere (aka nice, kind, helpful) whereas Ironwood has an enneagram tritype very common among xxTJs so that's what he looks/behaves like, but the way he thinks (what's best for the people, ethical values derived from an Atlasian upbringing) align more with Fe cognitively I think I'm going with ENFJ 6w5 1w2 3w4

Starting from V8 though, Ironwood veered clearly into ENTJ territory (types aren't supposed to change but I wouldn't say RWBY is the most consistent media when it comes to characters' personnalities)

One aspect that I think would be nice to delve deeper into ?

I understand why they didn't care to, but it'd have been interesting to get a few backstory hints for Ironwood. How did he lose half his body ? How did Oz recruit him ? Or some pieces about his upbringing ?

girl.... omg.... this game rlly means it when it says itll show me the ultimate despair....

so my first fav character was sayaka right,,, and then it was mondo,,, WHICH ISNT TOO GREAT FOR ME LMAO ALL MY FRIENDS HAVE SUCH TRAGIC FATES THIS GAME IS FULL OF TRAGEDY BUT ITS SO FUCKING WELL DONE AND IM EVEN MORE OBSESSED NOW (was low key scared id actually get depressed bc of this since i tend to get rlly attached to things like this,, and yeah i miss mondo like hell but ITS IN SUCH AN EXHILARATING WAY YKNOW AND I CANT WAIT TO KEEP PLAYING THE GAME)

but lmao i just wanna scream about all the little things that made this part of the game even more tragic,,, so first of all is like,, how similar mondo and chihiro are right ?? like at first you see them and ur like “wow these two are lowkey polar opposites bc mondo big tough violent outspoken scary man while chihiro is tiny passive inferiority complex timid man” but after hearing both of their stories, you can tell that they both suffer from the same things and have the same goal. they both have terrible inferiority complexes, they just deal with them differently: chihiro kinda gave into it and ran away from it by deciding to hide his true self behind something he saw as “weaker” than him and letting that become a part of his identity out of fear that he was too weak to try and change/fight it. Mondo on the other hand overcompensated big time for it and became the ultimate manly man when inside he felt nothing but weak and guilt. also like,, a few times mondo mentioned that hes rlly bad with emotions right and he handles them through anger and violence so,,, this means that whenever he has these negative feelings towards himself he has no healthy way to let them out and just keeps pushing them down and trying to maintin this facade of a strong man and never letting anyone know that hes “weak” but this just ends up as a big ball of negativity and adds to his “weakness”...and like... bro chihiro and mondo couldve grown so much stronger together bc they suffer from the same things but could learn how to deal with it better together and balance each other out.... but mondo acted so quickly and violently and did something he couldnt undo which just added to his self hatred and YKNOW ALSO KILLED THE MOST PURE HEARTED STRONGEST PERSON IN HERE BUT AT THE SAME TIME MAKES IT HARD FOR YOU TO BLAME MONDO AND HATE HIM FOR IT BUT UGH THERES JUST SO MANY LAYERS AND ITS SO EMOTIONAL

IS MONDOS RELATIONSHIP WITH TAKA... ill prolly make a post screaming abt how much i love them later lmao but like... god what hurt the most for me personally during this bit wasnt that my favorite boy died/had a whole tragic story.... but that his best friend had to go through such betrayal and such loss. like... not only did taka have to see this side of mondo that mondo was desperately trying to hide and find out that his best friend had broken everything he stood for and yknow,,, feel the ultimate sense of betrayal, but he also had to see his best friend brutally killed in front of him. like,, holy shit man mondo was straight up confessing but taka... TAKA REFUSED TO BELIEVE IT AFTER ALL THIS EVIDENCE AND THAT HIT SO MUCH HARDER THAN LEONS DEATH AND THE LIL RHYTHM MINI GAME THING bc in leons case he was like “it was self defense !! i had to !! its not my fault !!” after murdering someone,, but in this case,,,, mondo admitted to it but it was his Bro who refused to accept it and was fighting tooth and nail to save his best friend. AND LIKE,, TAKA IS THE ULT MORAL COMPASS RIGHT ?? AND HE STRAIGHT UP HAD TO KNOW IT WAS MONDO,, AND THAT BREAKS LITERALLY EVERY RULE ON ANY MORAL COMPASS,,, BUT TAKA STILL FOUGHT FOR HIM WITH EVERYTHING HE HAD..... also i noticed taka cursing and that seemed so ooc but so utterly heartbreaking.... and i love how they added extra drama in the game by having the va violently scream in agony for taka like.... talk about despair lmao. omg and my brother is watching the anime right and he was like lol you should watch the scene from it too if you wanna be more sad.... AND OH GOD HE WAS RIGHT... the fact that taka resorted to some violence by grabbing mondo aggressively and shaking him and yelling ... and the fact that he was like “why did you kill him make me understand” kinda thing and mondo couldnt even look at taka or say anything.... BUT EVEN WITH THAT,,, TAKA STILL COULDNT BEAR HIS FRIEND BEING KILLED AND BEGGED MONOKUMA TO KILL H I M INSTEAD ??? GOD MY HEART CANT FUCKING HANDLE THAT. LIKE THAT BOND THEY HAVE BRO AND HOW MONDO SEVERED IT AND HOW TAKA WAS NOT GONNA LET IT BE BROKEN THAT EASILY AND HHHHHH IM . SO . SAD. but seriously... that was a whole new level of despair imo for this game to add such a beautiful relationship between these two and have it end so tragically by taka, the moral compass, dropping his morals and refusing to see the facts in front of him and still ready to die for his bro.... also the whole “make me understand” line kinda just... he couldnt even condemn mondo for it, he wanted to know his reasonings so he could know that his friend wasnt a bad guy and couldnt die yknow...

HAHA I GOT ALL SAD AGAIN WRITING THIS DUDE BUT ITS JUST SO GOOD HOW COULD I NOT MAKE A POST YOU FEEL ?? im so hyped to start chapter three tomorrow but i swear if it gets any sadder it might actually affect my mood and ill have to take a break... but i think that the death of my fav + the relationship doomed to despair is quite a high level to beat for me personally since i always find things to be more sorrowful when it has anything to do with human connections like that lmao

Hey there~ I was just wondering, how are you feeling about Castlevania's ending? :)

Well, it's a mixed bag. SPOILERS BELOW:

I think I'm torn because while I am happy many characters got their happy endings- I'm disappointed because it clashes with the pre-established tone and feels like there are absolutely no consequences for the main characters.

Season 3 and Season 4 may as well be different series for the amount of stuff they dropped or shoved under the rug;

Lenore being confident and secure in her established role as a diplomat who can also kick ass? Now she's a fretting wilting flower who confides in Hector all her worries and insecurities. Despite him being ya know...her pet in Season 3.

Camilla being a confident, ruthless, intelligent woman? Now she's gone mad with power! Muhohaha! Makes it easyyy

Striga and Morana being die-hard loyal to their sisters? Pssshh they can leave them without a backwards glance in season 4.

St Germain? Ehhh let's drop all intrigue and just say he's a simp who 'did it all for love' plus he's mad now too. Makes it easyyy

However I think the worst examples of arcs or themes being dropped are Hector and Alucard. Hector is now in love with Lenore despite every abusive thing that's happened to him. This wouldn't be a problem if it was shown as an abusive attachment- something he's done time and time again, trusting the wrong people- but nope, the cycle continues and we're expected to feel something when Lenore dies. Oh such sweet sorrow.

Alucard though...oh my sweet boy. My sweet sweet boy. The writers have friggin tortured this poor man with trauma after trauma...only for none of it to matter pretty much by the end of episode 1 season 4. He's a 'little' cautious of people but give him a hot second and he's blurting everything to Greta and him impaling people who betrayed him on spikes is treated lightly. Again, he's like Hector in that he hasn't learned. He's trusting so quickly and easily by blurting his secrets because he’s so friggin lonely and desperate for connection. And I get that, I really, really do. But Season 3 may as well never have happened. There is no way he'd open up so quickly again after what he's been through, I'm sorry, it's shitty, rushed writing that undermines what happened to him. Alucard in season 4 is written as someone who is grieving, not traumatised.

If you want an example of a character whose trauma is handled well - look at Guts from Berserk. Even in the anime, which doesn't go into Gut's past (enduring rape) you can tell this guy has been hurt, badly. He won't allow touch, and he distances himself from everyone in the group.

When he does finally warm up to Casca and sleeps with her in the manga - he's triggered, and it's an extremely harrowing scene. I'm not saying Alucard's trauma needs to be deeply covered but fuck give us something. Otherwise it completely undermines what he went through.

A few - UWU I'm too shy to play with the children moments is so friggin tame. There's a reason the majority of fanfic writers apparently wrote Alucard as distrusting of humans and fearful of getting close to them- Because they get that Trauma. Has. Consequences. But yeah, aside from that I am very happy Alucard is surrounded by people at the end, since he's an extremely lonely character. It's a lovely thing that he gains a village and exactly what he needs. I just wish it had been handled better.

Greta needed a flashback scene too, I wasn't particularly invested in her but that would've helped. The true MVP of Castlevania is Isaac though. Best arc and best culmination of his journey. His story flows well and I loved watching him.

I haven't been all too interested in Trevor and Sypha since season 2 but eh they were fine. The 'bickering' couple isn't my fav trope and Trevor seems two seconds away from referring to her as 'the old ball and chain.'

And as much as I love my OTP for the show, my sun and stars, light of my life, monster boyfriend x human loving ass- I do think Dracula and Lisa should have died. And stayed dead. Like show Alucard seeing them in the netherworld being at peace. They could carve out a place for themselves in hell, Dracula has enough loyal followers there to do so. They could be content while also showing there are consequences.

Because that's what this show used to be. It didn't shy away from showing the masses die and suffer. The main characters were no different. But now in season 4 they're suddenly exempt. I wouldn't mind the happy ending at all if it didn't clash so hard with the pre-established tone of other seasons where the past is framed as something golden and gentle...

...but the present is awful and people must face harsh realities in order to carry on living.

Again, if you want more examples of grimdark shows staying faithful to their tone, look at Berserk or Devilman Crybaby. If you want Castlevania's tone to change, then more emphasis on HEALING is needed. And that could be done by confronting trauma and moving on. I like Isaacs journey because it SHOWED that change.

I mean friggin Princess Tutu felt like it had more consequences for characters actions than this show. I personally think an ending similar to Madoka Magica (first series, I haven't seen any others) where everything is 'fixed' but there's still loss would be a more fitting end for what was built up in Castlevania. But yeah...I liked Death's character, Isaac's arc, Alucard’s ending and that the lesbians survived and kicked ass. Striga's scene with that armour was oof. That was cool. I LOVED seeing Dracula x Lisa again too (that scene of them being combined had me screaming at the tv going - No, no, NOOOO!)

Everything else is like a big mess of feels. I want to like it, but I can't turn my brain off and ignore the writing flaws. So...ultimately I don't think I'll rewatch it again despite really liking the promise shown in the first few seasons. It's by no means a complete train wreck, but it is disappointing to me.

i’m gonna tag @karasunology but i don’t have many other writer friends so --

the haikyuu boys’ toxic traits is OBVIOUSLY my favorite post! it includes character analysis so ofc it’s my favorite, but I’m gonna do was aelia did and just talk about why I did what for each character! the little things karasuno does is also up there!

oikawa tooru’s toxic trait is connected to the canon of his gf breaking up with him! he knows he’s obsessed with volleyball, he knows the amount of time he spends on the sport is insane, and he knows that other people see it as out-of-the-ordinary. that’s why he expects people to keep up with him, because you clearly know he’s crazy about volleyball, shouldn’t you kinda expect a little negligence? he’s got a goal and he won’t change his path for anyone!

akaashi keiji’s toxic trait stems from him being so detail-oriented and being able to read people! even tho i think akaashi is intelligent enough to understand that not everyone is like him, i also feel that he’d have the expectation for his lover to be able to read him easily because they are supposed to be his safe space! he low key takes it as a sign of you not loving him if you can’t read him. because, if you really loved him, shouldn’t you be able to understand the little things he does?

yamaguchi tadashi’s toxic trait makes more sense if you connect it to how he acts before he has a successful jump serve! he’s super doubtful of everything because he lacks confidence from being the only first year that’s not a starter!

kageyama tobio’s toxic trait stems from his one-track-mindedness! he also can’t pretend to like something he doesn’t, and he isn’t good at reading people, and he also doesn’t understand people’s emotions because he’s never really had to before. so he’s insensitive and doesn’t see how his words and actions hurt!

kuroo tetsurou’s toxic trait is because he’s a scorpio LOL, from what i can tell they aren’t too fond of talking about their feelings and letting people in, also he gives me a lowkey mysterious vibe so i just amplified that!

hinata shoyo’s toxic trait comes from his light-heartedness and the fact that he’s never really been in any relationship before? he knows some couples have fights but he thinks that he won’t really encounter that with you, and when he does, he’s shocked because he thought???/ aren’t relationships supposed to be simple and full of love? honey baby just doesn’t get it

bokuto kotarou’s toxic trait -- bro have you seen how dejected he gets when his teammates ignore him during the games even when he asks? literally gets so emo and pouty, just translate that to the relationship except he thinks that he should be able to give you all he love and you not push him away? he doesn’t need personal space so he doesn’t understand people who do LOL

tsukishima kei’s toxic trait obviously comes from him holding back his emotions for so long. plus i think he just expresses his feelings completely differently. like if you’ve read the manga, when Tsukki blocks Ushiwaka’s spike and hinata tell him ‘good job’, you think tsukki smiles (which he does) but he automatically goes back to teasing. he just expresses himself differently and isn’t a good communicator which is vital in relationships

iwaizumi hajime’s toxic trait is honestly something i either see him having 100% or not having AT ALL. he doesn’t seem to care about what other people think of him, so i lowkey feel like he wouldn’t care about showing vulnerability; OR he’s be aware of how manly he seems and he’f think that’s what made you attracted to him initially and he doesn’t want to show any vulnerability in fear of you losing attraction to him

kozume kenma’s toxic trait would only happen if you were super close with him. first off, to even be in a relationship with him he has to feel comfortable around you, so he’d feel comfortable using harsher words with you. plus since you already know him he would think it’s ridiculous for you to expect him to change in any way.

A ctivities - What do they like to do with their s/o? How do they spend their free time with them?

Warren likes to calm down and try to have a moment of peace, so laying down in a bench or a tree with the head of his S/o in his lap and maybe pointing out the clouds or reading or even talking about anything sound great to him, but of course sometimes he would try to convince you to fly with him.

B eauty - What do they admire about their s/o? What do they think is beautiful about them?

Warren admires you kindness and compassion, it makes him happy to see that you're not like the people in his past life.

It's hard for Warren to find something he truly likes about himself; self-loathing and the hatred words of his parents and the viewers of mutant fights made him dislike almost everything he is. However, if he has to pick one would be his hair, because you have said how much you loved how curly and soft was.

C omfort - How would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack etc.?

Warren is not the most sensible person in the world, in fact he hates it, but seeing you in that state would totally break him.

He would approach you slowly, almost fearing if he does it it might scare you; then he would take your hands and try to talk a little to make you calm down, also a few kisses in your temple and his wing will protectively surround you.

F ight - Would they be easy to forgive their s/o? How are they fighting?

Warren has a short temper and although he doesn't want his most hatred side come out in fights a glimpse of it can show.

He would talk back in the most harsh way, roll his eyes and even ignore you if he feels that the fight is pointless. After it he would go for a drink, not caring if it can trigger his alcoholism.

After this can go two ways:

He gets so drunk that his emotions kick in and is a crying mess while his apologising, saying how stupid and useless he is.

He comes back after a while, you can clearly see that his eyes are red for crying and that he has stain tears in his cheeks; he will apologize by rambling about how sorry he is about everything and that he would try to be better, this also contains some self loathed words, but with less slurs and also he is sober.

And Warren forgive pretty fast

J ealousy - Do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?

Warren may be a short tempered guy, but I don't see him being a jealousy person. He trust you with all his being, so he knows you wouldn't do that so he dosen't act if he doesn't see a red flag.

But when he does he will be harsh, prepare yourself for hear a wave of insults and slurs, also if the other person starts to fight too he may throw hands.

K iss - Are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like?

He isn't inexperienced, in fact Warren has been in a few hook ups in the past both with others mutants fighters and some normies who wanted to feel how it was to be with a mutant, so bird boy knows how to kiss.

The first kiss between you two was magical in Warren's words, he was nervous, almost trembling; but he calmed down when you took the first step and just kissed him.

L ove Confession - How would they confess to their s/o?

Warren knows he would runaway if he tries to tell you his feelings in person so he wrote you a poem and waited patiently beside you.

The poem was full of love and fluffiness that it make him so embarrassed when you read it, he was red.

N icknames - What do they call their s/o?

As cheesy at it sounds he sometimes calls you angel, but most of the time is baby, babygirl/boy, love, sexy, etc

P DA - Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?

He brags about you with the others, sometimes Scott and him have discussions about which s/o is better, Ororo always interrupts them and tells them to grow up. However, Jubilee and Kurt finds cute how much Warren talks about you, while Peter annoys bird boy for being a softie.

PDA is a no, he feels uncomfortable doing it, but he likes to hold your hand in public. In privacy Warren is a cuddle monster, always down for a hug.

V alue - How important is the relationship to them? What is it’s worth in comparison to other things in their life?

This relationship has made him appreciate the lovely side of life, therefore is important to him, and is one of the big things he wouldn't change. However, it's not his hobby.

Warren loves the freedom that flight provides him and also his loves for poems and music are a big thing too.

X OXO - Are they very affectionate? Do they love to kiss and cuddle?

The lack of love he has had made him crave attention, he adores it; it doesn't matter if it's just a quick peck on the lips, a bear hug or a whole make up season. Affection makes him feel wanted and he likes feeling that way.

Y earning - How will they cope when they’re missing their partner?

Warren will try to keep himself away from alcohol, so he would full that time by writing you some letters.

It may sound stupid and cliché, but expressing his thoughts via words makes him feel closer to you, also he will reply any beautiful moment he can remember in his head and smile like an idiot.

“The Alchemist” ❤️❓

A very old request that I’ve finally finished for @rainebowkitty !!

It took me a while because it required a bit of research (of which I really enjoyed doing!)

This little drabble involves Riddle and... another Disney character (leaving the name out in this intro because you don’t really need to know who it is to be able to understand this story >u< )

Summary: During his alchemy class, Riddle Rosehearts gets paired with a strange, magic-less student that he's never noticed before. This student seems to know quite a lot about the subject, but his bizarre ideas tend to stray from the rules that Riddle is used to.

I think that the reason why this particular story took me so long to complete was because the subject of alchemy was quite intimidating to me •́ ‿ ,•̀ Even after weeks of having the basic plot written and taking many notes on the actual science of alchemy, I still always hesitated to complete this. Every day, I would try to write just a little bit, but I always ended up cowering away because all the different little parts of the science seemed overwhelming and, again, intimidating. I've never before procrastinated this much or run away from subjects of my own writing, so this was quite a new experience for me... I wish I could've gotten this done much faster, but I think this entire writing process helped me to face a fear I didn't even know I had--a fear of writing about science/scientific topics! It might be silly, but that's really the way I felt while writing this: afraid to delve too deep into the subject.

Still, I am very happy that this is finally done! I only hope that I served justice to this ancient science 💗 Kitty, I very much hope that you enjoyed your two favs together!!!

Okay!!! I'm gonna stop being annoying now

Riddle stood in the midday class with his back turned to his alchemy professor, easily slipping the buttons through the holes of his lab coat as Divus gave his greetings and instruction. His voice was clear and loud, reciting his usual classroom demands of always taking full precautions, ensuring safety, and arriving prepared. Always, it was these same rules, yet they were just a little bit different each day to suit whatever the current project may be.

But, on this day, Divus added to his instruction, "And, boys! Make sure you pair with a NEW partner today."

Riddle turned his head to stare at his professor and froze in place, absolutely dismayed. Crewel was asking them to switch partners? A brand new partner? All of a sudden?

How very strange that was, for wasn't it better to keep with the same partners? So that the two are familiar with each other and can work their best together? This switching of partners was truly, very odd, and it seemed just the thing that Professor Crewel would be against, for he was always the most sensible in keeping to rules and the traditional order of things. But, who was Riddle to argue or question the one in charge of the classroom?

He turned his head away once more and smoothed over the small wrinkles in his coat as the clean, clear goggles slipped over his eyes. It seemed the others in his class were just as confused as he, for they stumbled about awkwardly in search of a friendly-looking acquaintance of whom they were unfamiliar with. Riddle breathed out a huff and narrowed his eyes, a bit annoyed to have to deal with the uncertainty and the bother of finding a "brand new" partner. He turned around and looked, himself, for a person that seemed amiable and new, and to his luck, he was able to spot someone standing at one of the large, wide cauldrons of whom he was sure he hadn't ever worked with before.

He slowly approached where the other boy stood with his back to him. He was hurriedly flipping through the pages of several different books that were spread over the long desk just beside the pot of which they were to work. He had dark hair of an impressive volume and seemed rather intriguing in the way he went about his work. Riddle tilted his head slightly, watching with curiosity and interest as the boy worked quick to search what he was looking for, before he said in warm greeting, "Hello.. I don't believe I've worked with you before."

The boy went still upon hearing Riddle's voice, and he turned himself around to acquaint the unfamiliar classmate as he pushed the round goggles he wore over his head. "Hello!" he said with a nod, "I could work with you, if that's what we must do." There was clear enthusiasm in his voice before he turned his head once more to focus back on whatever he may have been searching for.

Riddle blinked several times in bewilderment. He had never even seen this student, let alone worked with him before. In alarm, he stared to get a better look at this stranger. His dark hair was accentuated by a teal stripe that ran down the center--a unique trait that Riddle had never noticed in a student before. He also had a soft, summer, sun-kissed shine to his complexion, which flattered and glowed upon his warm and freckled face, making him even more unrecognizable to Riddle.

Divus then gave further commands to the class, telling them that their goal was to make a particular potion. Riddle payed close attention to the details of the instruction, but all the while, he could not help but think in the back of his mind upon how strange his partner seemed to be. And, then, with the brief lecture over, he turned his attention again to that unknown student. "I'm sorry, but what is your name?" his voice was soft and polite with an ease in his eyes, "I don't believe I've payed much notice to you in this class before, and I'm sorry for that."

"Oh! Uh, I...." he dragged that last syllable out, much to Riddle's distaste, as he rummaged with the ingredients spread before the cauldron, "I only just began coming to this school. Not that long ago, really, so it makes sense if you didn't know. And--I'm Varian, by the way."

"You just began coming here?" Riddle said with alarm as his head tilted with even more interest than before, "A new student on the middle of the school year... And just like that? That isn't a typical thing here. How did it happen?"

Varian gritted his teeth and briefly glanced off to the side in attempt to avoid the question, "It's a... rea~lly long story. Don't worry about it."

Riddle looked at him with skepticism in his gaze. How odd it was to have a student transfer in the middle of the school year. As far as he knew, it was incredibly uncommon in NRC, for it meant that they would miss the welcome ceremony and so many other lessons and meetings that were essential in their learning.

But, again, who was he to argue with the way the school was run? Perhaps Crowley had a very special reason to allow this student entrance in the middle of the year.

Riddle took a small step to better observe what Varian was doing. All around on his side of the desk, there were sketches of obscure symbols that appeared unrelated to their project at hand, along with notebooks opened to pages of quotes that were beautiful poetically, yet seemingly unintelligent. How strange, how strange That one word kept repeating in Riddle's head, and he grew slightly skeptical of the student standing beside him.

Riddle pulled his head away and pressed his lips together as he began looking over the ingredients, chemicals, and metals that were laid out neatly upon the long desk, but his attention was seized once more by Varian who immediately grabbed two beakers of melted medals and mixed them carefully with one another.

"Just a touch of sulfur, and some more iron for the base...The iron brings forth the energy of Mars, so we'll have a fiery and quick result for this potion!" Varian was getting more and more excited as he explained the steps, and he seemed to talk more to himself than to Riddle. But, he soon took a breath in woeful thought as he continued with the mixture. "I really wish we had access to use gold in this lab. I guess it's understandable that we aren't allowed, but it isn't fair! Gold, after all, represents the sun, and the sun is connected to a princess I've been honored to become well-acquainted with--"

"Varian!" Riddle let out loudly, cutting him off after having had enough of his mindless chattering, "What are you even doing with all of those metals and chemicals?"

He reached out and took hold of the beaker that his partner held in his left hand, vigilant enough as to not disturb the dangerous mixtures, but harsh enough to cause a drop of the pinkish liquid to fizz onto the table.

"Woah be careful with that..!" Varian said frantically, trying to steady all the beakers that could cause a mess.

"What have you made?" Riddle's eyes were fixated in a glare, yet his voice wavered with fascination as he asked the question.

"Oh," Varian smiled with excitement and straightened his back, and he cleared his throat, preparing to deliver a recitation of all he created in a matter of minutes, "That's still just sulfur with an iron base, but the sulfur also works as a primer. You know... the 'spirit of life'. I also added a bit of mercury to better blend the high concentrations with the low ones, which also aids in connected the high and low energies. And, of course, I added a touch of salt as well, just as another primer."

"I see..." was all Riddle said in quiet response. He knew of the three primers and their functions in the mixtures--every student learned that at some point or another in the class. But, as for the other symbolic and rather spiritual things mentioned by Varian, he had never heard of them before, and he wasn't sure if he should believe them now.

Varian only continued, "It's unfair that we can't use gold or silver. I'd complain if I wasn't so new to this school." Getting excited again, he seemed to be talking mainly to himself once more, "Gold is the sun! And the sun is willpower, inner ability and inner strength! It's deeply connected to the heart and the heat of the body... It ignites passion and life! And it's connected to vision, too. But, silver probably has even more use than gold does. It's connected to the moon and creation... but in formulas, it helps the metals grow more quickly and aids in their blending."

The scowl on Riddle's face deepened, and his small nose wrinkled every slightly in skepticism and suspicion, yet that typically unsavory expression looked oddly beautiful over his fair face, and so Varian payed him no mind. Instead, he kept up on speaking, though this time it was less of a ramble. "We should probably go through the first couple steps together, shouldn't we?" he asked with a kind smile. "The first thing would be to go through the operation of calcination. You know, heating things to purify the metal and cancel out any toxins. But, I trust this lab, so it's fine to skip that step. Next would be dissolution, like... using water to dissolve bits of the metal into rust at the edges. It usually works as another purifier, as the water brings in life. But it really isn't that important, is it? Let's skip that one! Then, that brings us to the operation of separation. Specifically, separating the components of the dissolution... But if we don't do the dissolution, there really is no point. It's basically isolating the rust and the different elements of the metals by filtering them carefully and then discarding the bad materials. That always seems to tedious to me. "Varian!" Riddle's patience was reaching its brim. His anger ripped through his voice, causing Varian to flinch back and widen his eyes. "We shouldn't skip anything! There's an order for a reason!"

"Okay, okay," Varian said with a timid smile in attempt to ease his partner's nerves. "But trust me, we should just go ahead a proceed with the fourth operation. Conjunction. It's basically the re-combination of the components that should have been separated in the previous step. But, combining the metals is basically what I've been doing so far, so it's like we're ahead. All we need is potassium nitrate. I promise! It's like a short cut." Varian said, looking to Riddle with pleading eyes in hopes of convincing him.

"Alchemy is a discipline," Riddle said sternly, though his voice was now kept soft, "There are rules and a direction you must follow. Every step involves a precise measurement, and unless you adhere to the order set in place, you will never achieve a good result!"

"Well, yes, you're... kind of right."

Riddle stepped back, blinking in disbelief. Kind of right? Who did he think he was? An alchemy expert? Someone so profound that he could skip around on the steps? Riddle's anger was building up inside, heart racing, blood boiling. His face was heating up, just about to burst--

And, then, Varian quickly drew from the cauldron a small sample of the potion they were to create. It was small bit, but it was perfect. Made with such quick ease, and filling up half of the beaker. It was quite impressive to have achieved such a wonderful result in such little time, and noticing this, Riddle slowly calmed.

"Hey... Relax, okay? It's really not something to stress over," Varian reassured with a confident chuckle and a mocking role of his eyes that went undetected by Riddle.

Riddle pressed his lips together before softening his expression and letting out a sigh, easing himself of the tension and excitement, yet also ashamed now for having gotten so angry before. Maybe, perhaps, he could trust this kid to do what he seemed so passionate about.

Blood Of Olympus Read W/ Me

This was the worst book of the series by far. I almost didn’t finish it. I think my thoughts are going to be rather short but they’ll still be below the cut for spoiler reasons. There will also be Trials of Apollo spoilers so I highly suggest not reading this if you haven’t caught up with those books! Let’s get into it.

I’d like the start by saying what I like: Nico/Reyna POV. I loved their relationship (which I didn’t see coming at all) it was very big sis-little bro vibes. I love that Nico finally found a place and his budding relationship with Will. What’s funny is though I knew Will would be his love interest (You can’t avoid them in fanfic at all) I thought he’d be more like super sunshine/super happy and that would contrast with Nico’s emo nature. But he was just chill and was like Nico, stop being a dumbass, we’re friends. I think fanfic gave me a different impression of what he’d be like (Granted I never read the fics, just summaries) and I was surprised that he was not like that. It’s not bad or good, just pointing it out.

Oh and Nico telling Percy he liked him and Percy just being like ‘say what?’ I didn’t expect Nico to actually fess up to that one but Percy’s reaction was gold.

The best moment in this book is Reyna taking down Orion by herself. She was that BITCH. Correct me if I’m wrong but the only other person who defeated a giant by themselves was Percy right? In the Battle of Labyrinth when he fights Antaeus? I think Antaeus was a half-giant though because Percy, a demigod, managed to kill him without the help of a god. Anyway, Reyna was everything in that scene. Oh I lied, he took down Polybotes too. They’d be unstoppable together (though I love Percabeth). She was about to sacrifice herself too!! What a queen. I respect the crap out of her. UM Jason you really picked the wrong girl lmao.

I appreciated the Thalia cameo (because again, I didn’t re-read the Lost Hero so I haven’t seen her since the last time I read the PJO series) and the mention of Zoe. I hope Kenzie didn’t really die though, I liked her.

And that’s all the good I have to say about it. Now for the bad...so much bad.

So after thinking about it, I realize that what makes HoO so different from its predecessor series is that there’s no consequences. The closest we got to consequences was Annabeth and Percy falling into Tartarus because they weren’t saved in time. No one important (protagonist/good guys side) died. Leo was resurrected (And I looked it up and found out that he came to Camp in the Trials of Apollo series so everyone knows he’s alive). Even for the Tartarus one, we didn’t even get a PTSD arc. It would’ve been helpful to have Percy or Annabeth’s POV in this book to wrap up that subplot. Instead we get two lines about their time in Tartarus and when Percy brings it up, Annabeth tells him not to mention it. So no PTSD arc. Got it. But we can just casually mention that Octavian committed suicide (which I don’t care for that ending at all). Right.

The HoO books are boring because there’s no consequences. I never felt true fear apart from Percy/Annabeth being in Tartarus. In the Last Olympian, mortals were put to sleep, Annabeth was gravely injured, Silena and Beckendorf died. Luke and Ethan died. There was no magical save for them. Blood of Olympus had NO stakes, coupled with a weak, slightly developed new characters made it a bad series imo. It also doesn’t deliver on the questions posed in the book.

Hazel’s curse is still active, no descendant of Neptune has taken it away. I read the wiki summary for every book of the Trials of Apollo (The last one isn’t out yet) and there’s no mention of her curse being lifted. I think Frank’s stick is resolved imo being that it’s safe in the fireproof pouch but for some readers, they don’t think that’s resolved. Kym told Percy he’d have to face his fatal flaw. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t feel as though he did. Percy also never helped Leo find Calypso but Ig that’s null because he never got the chance to. Also is Black Jack, Frank’s grandmother, Hylla okay? Orion said Hylla got away but I was hoping for another cameo.

Let’s talk about the villains/the entire quest of the Seven. The quest was boring, Nico/Reyna/Hedge’s quest was 100x more interesting and they were transporting a freaking statue. The quest of the Seven was fight this minor god/villain who is working for Gaea who promised them something (Even Jason has a line where he makes fun of this), outsmart/fight them, get to Athens where all the monsters are. Percy and Annabeth’s blood awakens Gaea. The gods come down which makes me angry because most of them weren’t helpful throughout the series. Poseidon wasn’t in this series at all. He didn’t even send a symbol or talk to his son who went missing. I’m pissed that the battle against Gaea wasn’t even in Athens! I’m pissed that they got slapped to New York, like what? The gods really couldn’t poof them back there, they gave some excuse but it was still bs. But I guess Rick needed Argo II to get back to NY so Leo can turn festus back into a dragon. But anyway, the gods come down, the demigods work with to defeat the giants in less than two pages. The giants that were poised as a massive threat for four books straight. Defeated in mere minutes. We don’t even get a cool battle description, they just hack and slash at them and they’re dead. Huh?

Percy, Annabeth, Hazel, and Frank were reduced to background characters and I understand they don’t have a POV but I never felt that characters who didn’t have a POV in a certain book were ever forgotten/not utilized. They didn’t really get to do anything.

We also don’t really see the Roman and Greek gods all that much. I know they’re the same people, different Greek and Roman personalities. But like I thought their Roman side could be seen a bit more but they were having difficulty maintain one persona throughout the whole series. I can tell you what the Greek gods are like and how they interact w/ each other based on the throne room scenes/anytime they help demigods in PJO/HoO. But Roman gods as whole? I can’t tell you how they even interact with each other.

But wait, it gets worse. There’s not even a formal recognition thing like there was at the end of the Last Olympian (where Percy is offered godhood and Annabeth is given position of architect) there’s a little meeting with the gods and the Seven in which Jason is like give minor gods shrine and the gods aren’t really all that interested in what he has to say. There’s no thank you demigods. No, thanks Annabeth and Percy for literally going through Tartarus and Hazel for sacrificing yourself at 13 back in the 1940s. And the rest of them sacrificed something too. Like damn, no wonder why Luke was always like the gods don’t care about their kids.

Gaea was built up to be a big bad (honestly not really, she talked trash the entire time/sent people to do her work) and the woman is easily overpowered by the three demigods. She’s not even awake for 20 minutes and she goes down. WHAT??

Overall, it was anti-climatic and totally did a 180 on everything else established in this series-the fact that Gaea was such a major foe and turned out not to be (that SEVEN demigods had to take her down, not just 1 like Percy’s prophecy) and the giants were to be feared too but they get taken down. At 200 pages in, I dead ass wanted to DNF, it was so boring. I gave it a one star because although the good I mentioned was really great, it doesn’t save the book. So for me, this series had every book be 3 stars or under except House of Hades. 5 books and I only really was able to like one and get through it easily and it still had issues. Like what?

Lastly, I want to touch on Jason. I still think he’s bland though I appreciated him giving Nico a hug at the end there. Again from ToA/being spoiled over the years, I learned that Jason died and I won’t be reading ToA but I read the summary of the book where he died and um, wow. I don’t feel anything for his death but the fact that he and Piper broke up sent me into a laughing/anger rage. Laughing because they really said ‘I love you’ at the end of BoO and they didn’t even make it a year lmao. And the fact that PIPER, miss always insecure in her relationship with him, McLean broke up with HIM. WOOOOOW. But it made mad because I listened to her complain/fawn over Jason for 4 freaking books (not counting tSoN) for NO REASON cuz they ended up breaking up. Overall, I appreciated what Jason, Hazel, Frank, and Piper did in the HoO series because they were helpful but I couldn’t connect with their characters. I’ll admit that in BoO we got a little bit more bonding between characters which is what I asked for in my last read with me and I like the Percy/Jason scene underwater and Piper/Annabeth scene from the beginning. I do think some relationships were summarized when they could’ve been shown--i.e. Annabeth/Reyna/Piper friendship but they have potential.

The bonding was good, it was just too late. It should’ve happened in MoA/HoH as well. Random but I also hate how Leo was treated (esp. by Jason and Piper) throughout the series and I’m glad he got out of that mess. He was reduced to a deus ex mechanic and that wasn’t cool. The Seven wouldn’t have been able to do this quest without him.

Sooo I guess this is it. I don’t think I’m going to read another Rick Riordan book again unless I hear something drastic happens to Percy or Annabeth/Any of the PJO characters and Reyna. I’m strongly reconsidering removing him as my fav author. I still love the PJO series but this one was not it. I don’t know if Rick was on a tight deadline for these HoO books but it was just poorly executed. I don’t regret reading the series, I think reading HoH was worth all the time I spent reading this series. I wish I had just read a summary of tSoN and MoA, especially because I already read them years ago and knew I wasn’t into them from my first read. I wasted my own time by doing that. So if I had done that I would’ve gotten to just read HoH and then only be disappointed by BoO as opposed to three books. It is what it is. It’s nice to be in the loop because I always see these things about HoO characters and spoilers so now I know how it went down.

But that’s it guys, thank you for reading this entire thread and the ones before it. I have a lot of opinions and I don’t think I’m in the minority by saying I didn’t like this series overall. I will get back to my writeblr content and I will leave you guys with my final ratings for the series (My rating system may seem generous compared to my read with me thoughts but I personally don’t give less than 3 stars to books that plot wise made sense. It may not be the most compelling plot or have the best characters but if it made coherent sense, I have to give it at least a 3.) :

The Lost Hero: This score is based off of my original reading in 2012/2013 and my thoughts on the main characters in that book, I give this a 3/5 stars

The Son of Neptune: 3/5

The Mark of Athena: 2/5

The House of Hades: 4.5/5

The Blood of Olympus: 2/5

Worst book of the series: Mark of Athena (Blood Olympus is a close tie but the Nico/Reyna really saves it from this spot) and best book- House of Hades.
