Gold Pieces

The use of gold pieces as a common form of currency came into effect in 263 AC after representatives from Westeros and the Free Cities met in Braavos to discuss problems arising in trade due to the differences in coins used and, more specifically, the various metals used to make them.

Each gold piece can be fashioned into any shape, but they must be made with 22 karat gold, consisting of 11/12 gold and 1/12 copper, and weighing 0.0176 pounds. Gold pieces can be used as they are or exchanged for coins used in a particular region based on rates calculated every turn of the moon by the bankers of that region. Heavy fines are imposed on those who attempt to use gold pieces that do not conform to the accepted standards.
