I'm loving the Dorlene fic!! I'm really excited about their future but also no because of all the angst.
Do you follow the theory that Peter has something to do with the death of the McKinnons? Like maybe she realizes that he is a traitor so Peter has to kill her and her family so it doesn’t look like she was the target, or maybe it was his initiation… I don’t know, the only thing I am sure about Peter it's that he was always smarter than people give him credit for.
Also if you dont mind where are you from?? I'm just curious 😁
hi thank you i'm so glad ur enjoying it!! i am also really excited abt their future but mostly because of the angst so >:) they'll get some happy moments too tho don't worry <3
i'm gonna put the answer to the peter question under the cut just in case it's a spoiler/spoiler-adjacent, so before i do that -- i'm from the u.s.! i don't live there currently tho, which is why my timezone might be a little weird depending on what part of the world ur in :)
ok regarding the peter stuff -- i'm assuming ur asking whether i'm going to include this in the hand that feeds, and not just whether i think peter was involved in the mckinnons' deaths in general? if so, currently the answer is just idk lol. i'm still figuring out exactly how i want to write the mckinnons' deaths and probably won't figure it out for sure until i'm actually writing the war part of the story--right now my focus is on the development of their relationship while at hogwarts + setting up context for the war.
that being said, i do think peter being involved has high angst potential, so of course i'm intrigued by the idea >:) it's something i can definitely see myself playing around with, i just don't wanna say for sure one way or the other since i don't really know yet!

i'm 22 but i'm still living with my dad, and i feel pretty embarrassed about it. i have a part time job online but i don't have a car so my dad drives me to school. my dad has his own place but my mom who lives out of state feels the apartment we are living in (small apartment building) is unsafe when she was living there due to a lot of people coming in and having parties and smoking weed. i used to live on my own in a room but since my mom moved it's easier for me to live in the condo we have.
part 2) i feel quite embarrassed to still be living with my parents (kinda) and relaying on them so much at my age. how do i convince them that i can live on my own and be safe? my parents are quite protective of me as their only child, and i feel like i lost some valuable experience learning to do things on my own. in our culture its normal to live with family until marriage but we live in the U.S and im embarrassed by my lack of experience in adult life.
i work online part time only 2 days a week, and make about 400-500 dollars per month. this is not enough to cover my full rent or the mortgage (when i move back) so they are still paying and help me with everything. i wish i had a car and know how to drive but we've been so busy as i finish my degree next year. i am very grateful for them for everything and i know a lot of parents wouldn't do the same for me, but i know i need to grow up.
my parents are not together nor do they seem to have many friends or hobbies they do on their own, so they mainly just focus on me. they are very loving and they understand i need to do things on my own, but i have to be more independent. they are helping me to be more independent but they want to live near me even when im married which is normal in our culture, but i dont know if my partner in the future will like it. how do i tell them to let me leave the nest faster? im the same 22 y/o anon
So first things first, living with your parents at 22 is actually super common right now. As of 2021, almost 57% of 18-24 year olds in the US live with their parents at least some of the time. My partner was actually 22 years old and living with his parents when we met, and I didn't think anything of it. It actually ended up being a great situation for me because I got a bonus set of parents that I otherwise wouldn't have spent time with.
That said, I think becoming more independent and getting some adult experiences is a good idea. Are there ways that you can start slowly asserting your independence without freaking your parents out? For example, you might start biking or taking public transportation to school instead of getting your dad to drive you (if that's an option where you are), or taking on more household responsibilities, or working outside of the house a few days a week so that you can become more financially independent. Maybe you can start staying over at friend's houses every so often so your parents get used to you being elsewhere. If you begin to gently show them that you can take care of yourself, they may be more comfortable letting you leave the nest.
It may also be worth sitting down and having an honest conversation with each of them about your goal of being more independent. It may be a difficult conversation to have, but it might be necessary if nothing else is working. Let them know what you told me- that you really appreciate everything they've done for you and that you understand that they've gone above and beyond to help you out, but that you want to be more independent so you can grow up. They may not like it, but it's possible they'll understand and at least let you try.

I used to work with a girl who went to Arcadia fro photography! She absolutely hated it, unfortunately. She said it was dull, so I assume she didn’t take advantage of the study abroad opportunity, lol. But I do know something who went to Boston Uni and she loved it!
& That’s amazing what you studied! I had to take lots of psych and sociology classes in undergrad and absolutely fell in love, but it was not my major. I hope in the future I’ll get to go back to school and get a psych degree and do something in the clinical field. I had always dreamed of doing that, and people always told me I should go into psychotherapy, which I would like to pursue one day. I had bigger dreams of pursuing filmmaking and music production, so that’s where I got my degrees. But I think it’s incredible that you’re a therapist now!! How are you liking it so far?
Also, shout out to that anon from Rochester! Wegmans gang represent ✊
-🦕
I forgot to mention—that’s so cool that you studied abroad in Scotland! I used to live in Europe, so I visited Edinburgh and Glasgow a few times, and it was a lovely experience every time! The people there were so friendly and inviting it was such a stark contrast to many other places in the world, especially the U.S. Everywhere you go in Scotland, people really want to come up and have a genuine conversation with you! In every pub I went to, no one had their phones out, and everyone wanted to simply have a drink with you and talk for hours. I’m quite the self-proclaimed asocial introvert, but it actually felt like a very welcoming and non-threatening environment! To be fair, it was sort of exhausting, but so worth it. I think a lot of people can learn a lot from this culture!! -🦕
Yeah honestly if I could go back now, I would have chosen a different school. It was super small and isolated in a small town. I loved my professors though. But at the time I was way more insecure and spent a lot of my first two years feeling really depressed and lonely so I dont think I could have emotionally handled a big school. The person I am now would have loved a giant school with the football games and the college town atmosphere. But oh well, can't go backwards.
I think I do like therapy for the most part. It's super stressful just given the specific population I work with. I'm at a community clinic so I see the most severely mentally ill people out there. It's tough to see progress and feel like I'm making a difference because unfortunately most of my patients either don't have the insight to know they're sick, won't take their medications, are court mandated, and end up in the hospital every few weeks because they're too psychotic. It's been tough. But I don't plan to stay in this job forever and I"m hoping to eventually move to something where I can do real therapy work. Right now it feels more like I'm just checking for safety and moving on with most of my patients.
Film making and music production sounds incredible though! I sometimes wish I had done something more in the line of production or screen writing.
As for Scotland, I loved the country itself. I was able to do a lot of traveling while I was there too which was incredible. I remember just being super intimidated by everyone there lol but again this was also during my super insecure years so I didn't really put myself out there either.

Why does no one like me? I’m not a rude person and I always try to do my best
Hi love,
Thank you for reaching out to Asking Jude. Unfortunately, this is very common in this day and age. You are never alone in feeling lonely. According to study done in 2019, about 1 in 5 people report not having close friends. This can be due to a variety of reasons. Not many people have a lot of friends and that is perfectly okay. Your happiness should not be dependent on how many friendships you have, but rather the quality of the friendships and what value it brings to your life. Only you can make yourself happy. Having said that, socializing is an important part of life and can give your mental health an incredible boost, so we should be trying to build social connections throughout life.
First step to getting you through any hurdle is starting from within. Is there something that you are doing that may be hindering your ability to make friends? Maybe you are naturally shy or uncomfortable around new people. Maybe you don’t feel like you have much to offer, so your insecurity comes across as indifference. Maybe you are an introvert and you prefer being alone most of the time. Maybe you are awkward and communicating with others does not come easy to you.
Or, maybe you simply don’t come across people who interest you enough to try to form a friendship. Maybe there aren’t people that you would likely be friends with in your neighborhood. In this case, meeting people through your interests is the best way to make friends. People are more likable and interesting while doing something they enjoy or love. Not only will you find people with similar experiences and interests, you will also find people who are interested in who you are and what you want to say. If you do not have a specific social interest, then you can use this opportunity to find something you truly enjoy. Everyone needs a hobby or something to help them relax. Socializing can be quite stressful at times, so giving people the chance to see you uninhibited and relaxed can help you make friends easier.
This has become incredibly easy over the internet. Social media has given us a medium to find friends with even the most specific interests from all across the world. Find your niche and find people who see you for the truly amazing person you are so you can build some amazing friendships. I can tell you from personal experience, I have a group of friends from all across the U.S. that I haven’t met in person but they are some of the most incredible people I know.
It can also be that you are busy with work or studies and have not been devoting as much time to your social life. To live a fulfilling life, your social life is just as if not more important than your academic or work life. People often get weighed down by work or studies and put all their time and energy into it so that they can have a brighter future. But the future is uncertain, and living in the moment is incredibly important. Set aside some time every week for social activities. Try to work or study together with people at work or school. Walk in a park and say hi to people who cross your path. Go to any events scheduled by your community. Anything to expose you to some people and provide opportunities for socializing.

So it begins
This is a journal, diary, a void just somewhere i can put my thoughts without feeling like i’m just screaming into a void.
5/28/2020
I’m living in the u.s. my dad is German and my mum is American, while we live in the u.s. they’re laid back parents and have let me drink in the house on weekends since i was 15 or 16.(note: i got held back in first grade after moving from england so despite being born in 02 i graduate in 21) Being 17 i wanted to experiment, I've vaped but personally i don’t see the attraction so i tried weed as it’s starting to become legal. I figured i’m nearly an adult so what’s the big deal. Like an afternoon drink i enjoyed smoking. It helped me relax and be more open about myself and put on this picture perfect filter even if i was just talking to friends. And unlike nicotine i never craved it or felt like i needed it which is why i don’t fuck with nicotine. So life moves on like normal until October. they found some trash from a cart i opened, unfortunately my siblings have ruined weed for my parents as all my siblings who smoke decided to make some dumb life decisions (which i don’t want to type out) and are in my parents eyes not in the best position. Rightfully from their experience they’re against it, it’s not unreasonable to see the cause and effect relationship. lots of yelling and arguing ensue i don’t remember it too well but i didn’t get punished somehow. Fast forward to December My parents are worried for my grades, this year i was spending half my time at a technical school and my other half at my main high school. Perfect grades in technical school but my main school wasn’t the best. I had flat C’s with a b+ in English. In my eyes i had bitten off more than i could chew this year as i decided to take college algebra/trigonometry a class covering two years of college math in one, i suck at linguistics so Spanish class was rough, Chemistry is known for being tough, English always came easily to me but that class takes up a lot of time. So in my eyes my grades could be improved but to an extent it was justified and for the past two years i was on the high honor roll maintaining a 3.5+ gpa so it’s not the end of the world. To them they think that weed is what’s making my grades the way they are that i’m a stoner who just smokes pot all day and that’s all i want to do with my life. This makes me horribly angry for two reasons. The first being i - hate - potheads, ironic but if all you want to do is smoke with your life frankly i think you’re a boring person with no aspirations in life which isn’t what i want for myself i feel unbalanced and shitty if i’m not sober for a few days i would maybe smoke 2-3 times a week at night after i was done with my day or on the weekend with friends. So that’s the first thing that upsets me they think i’m a pothead who just wants to smoke weed all day. the second reason this makes me angry is that they’re completely fine with getting drunk, now i’m not calling my parents alcoholics (my dad doesn’t even drink that much it’s mainly my mum ) but shit at least once or twice a week my mum will be pretty fuckin drunk. which again is an okay thing to do they’re adults it’s their right my problem is that if the world is starting to put weed on the level of alcohol why is it so horrible if i get high occasionally to put off some stress like she does occasionally. Now i didn’t get to ask her this specific question but i did say “so it’s okay for you to get drunk but i can’t get high” to which she responded “i’m an adult, you’re not” if you trusted me to be adult enough to handle alcohol what makes me smoking any different. second semester we have 2 more “big” arguments about my grades, they keep relating it to pot. So at this point i had to 3rd person myself if you will. on one hand i didn’t believe pot to be affecting me as i thought i had control over it and never abused it, i knew what abuse looked like because of my siblings but never felt that way for myself. On the other maybe it is effecting me but i don’t realize it. So to humor the idea i go sober for a month, nah school is just hard it’s not weed. Idk if i typed this already but i understand if you don’t want to smell weed, or have it in your home but i don’t see the harm if i’m not bringing it anywhere near home. At around this point we entered quarantine, i didn’t mind online school however now my mum was hounding me constantly about school, if even one assignment was missing it would lead to more arguing. Now i know to a certain degree i didn’t give a fuck about the online work because at this point my grades weren’t going to be able to go down however i did 80% of my work. If i can’t understand trig in school what makes you think i can teach myself so for the most part i did school. At a certain point i felt this switch was flipped and it happened right around when quarantine started and since then i haven’t felt comfortable in my own home. it constantly feels tense between me and my mum i couldn't tell you what we argue over but i can’t even go hang out with friends without feeling like i’m doing something wrong, which makes me want to stay in my room all day which then makes them upset because they dont see me throughout the day which then leads to an argument and me storming back up to my room. so now that i’m in this cycle of shit frankly i just want to cry and enjoy my last summer but now i’m being threatened with being kicked out despite not even finishing highschool. i turn 18 in 9 days i don’t think i’ve ever been scared for a birthday. when i’m not crying and feel more level headed i do think about actually moving out though.
I mean if i broke it down what’s so horrible about only making 25k a year you can easily live in your own apartment with insurance and enough to save for the future and emergency, I've done the math and it just keeps cycling in my head because all my life I've been taught i need to go to college or make more than 60k a year but after doing the math, why. why put myself in debt if i can live comfortably, i mean shit any job paying something like $15 an hour (in the midwest) isn’t going to be anything to be proud of but if i can sustain myself and grow a retirement fund why not if i meet my partner they most likely have the means to sustain themselves so it would be easy to live together and currently i’d rather be sterilized then have a kid so that’s not an expense i want to think about as it’s something i do not want.
I want to finish highschool but living in my parents house makes me feel constantly on edge. In retrospect after writing this and reliving the past school year if i didn’t or if they didn’t know i smoked pot most of this would have never happened.
also i need a fucking job again at least it will get me out of the house
i’m posting this for my own sanity if you think i’m a dumbass tell me off in the comments if you have similar experiences, advice, encouragment etc feel free to put it in comments i appreciate feedback but frankly couldn’t care if you think i wasted my time in posting this

A/N: So… after almost three months part five is finally here. Does anyone even remember this series?? I’m sorry it took me so long but also thank you for your patience! I hope this part will bring you the answers for questions you had after part four! I dont own the characters, they belong to Pixelberry. As always, feedback is much appreciated!

“Because they all think I killed Liam,” Drake said avoiding Riley’s widened eyes.
“You….WHAT?” She couldn’t believe it, maybe she misheard something?
“Killed Liam,” he answered calmly finally risking a glance at her. She was shocked.
“Wait, what do you mean you killed Liam?!”
This didn’t make any sense, they were friends! And even if something changed, Drake would never kill anyone. Never.
Or would he?
How much could change since she last saw him?
“I know what you’re thinking. But for the record, I didn’t do anything. I was apparently the last person who saw him alive so I was accused of his death.”
“Wait, wait, stop!” she waved her hand, shaking her head trying to understand. “I’m not following. Liam’s dead? You’re accused of his death? What the heck happened in Cordonia since I left?!”
“A lot of things, actually. You wanna know everything or just the key points?”
“Everything, I have time,” she replied wrapping herself in a blanket and making herself comfortable.
“Well,” he sighed running his hand through his hair, “it all started the day you left. You weren’t in your room so I assumed you were somewhere with Hana or Maxwell. I tried to call you but you didn’t answer. And then I saw the letters. I read mine and when I realized you were really gone I ran to find the others hoping they’d know more. But they didn’t, no one knew anything and we all were surprised to learn you decided to take off. We started looking for you, in the middle of the night, knowing you couldn’t be far away. I don’t know where you spent the night but you hid well, no one, not even the royal guards, could find you. Anyway, Liam was furious. He blamed me for your disappearance and to be honest, I blamed myself too. Liam shut me off completely, I think he was still hurt after I told him about us. I hired a detective to find you but he couldn’t find anything. When we came back to Cordonia, we started getting ready for Liam and Madeleine’s wedding. But he didn’t want to marry her. He was getting rebelious, didn’t want to listen to us, to anyone. His father was getting worse too. And then, Bertrand told us they had found Tariq. And if you think everything got better you’re wrong. It only made Liam more upset. He was free of Madeleine but the only person he wanted to marry, that is you, was gone. He blamed me for his ruined future, for his ruined chances for marriage. We barely spoke since then, I lived in my cabin, far from the palace to avoid him, or anyone for that matter. I sent another detective but still nothing. I called Daniel a few times but he swore he never saw you. Finally, Liam’s father died. There was an attack in the palace and I think it was Liam who was targetted. A few weeks after, Maxwell told me what a mess Liam was. He didn’t talk to anyone, he barely eat anything. I decided to visit him, I was his friend after all and I cared for him. He wasn’t happy to see me. He told me to get out, I could see he was drunk and tired with everything. I told him I was worried but he only shrugged and said he was doing perfectly fine.”
“Liam… we’re worried about you, you don’t go out, you don’t talk to anyone, you–”
“I. AM. FINE.”
“Liam… I’m concerned..”
“Well, maybe you shouldn’t have taken MY woman, if you’re so concerned!”
“She wasn’t yours! And it’s not my fault she had feelings for me!”
Liam snickered, “Of course. She loved you so much that she left.”
“Liam!”
“Get out. I don’t want to see you ever again!”
“Liam, we’re friends, please,let’s talk.”
“I do not want to talk to you! You have taken away everything from me. You have taken the only chance for love I had. You took her, you made her leave, you–”
“Liam, please–”
“GET OUT! Get out before I do something I shouldn’t do as a King!”
“Our meeting didn’t go well, he yelled at me and I decided to leave before we both say things we would regret. That was the last time I saw him. And unfortunately, the last time he was seen at all. Somewhere around three in the morning I got a call from Bastien saying Liam was found unconsious and people claim I wanted to kill him. They heard us arguing loudly and the camera footage clearly shows me as the last person who came into Liam’s room. Bastien told me they were going to investigate me and advised to hide somewhere until they find the real reason for Liam’s condition. He didn’t believe I did it, neither did Savannah, Hana, and Maxwell. And then a whole lot of mess happened. Liam was pronounced dead and I guitly. Bastien gave me fake passport and helped me get out of the country and I’m glad he did because I would be in jail now. No one wanted to listen to me, they all assumed I did it because I wanted to be with you. Some people claimed I killed you too. After I left, I still got updates on the situation and guess what. Your press secretary, was not, in fact, a press secretary, but a fucking pretender to the throne in case the King of Cordonia died childless. And since both, Liam and Constantine, were dead, Anton, that is Justin for you, was pronounced a new King and Olivia, who was his wife according to the will, a Queen.” He took a deep breath before continuing.
“Anton put Bastien and some other royal guards in jail for not taking enough care of Liam and issued a wanted notice after me. No one was safe with him, not even his own wife who suddenly disappeared. Anton accused me of kidnapping Olivia and promised to find me. Now, he’s ruling alone and I think that was his plan all along. I have no idea where Olivia is but I’m sure her kidnapping was his doing. I went to the States to my mom, already changed my name, but they came there looking for me too. I was wandering across the U.S. in hope to find you, find anyone who didn’t hate but after ten months I gave up. You didn’t want to be found for a reason. I remembered I obtained a degree a couple of years before and decided to start teaching. Went to England and was lucky because they needed a history teacher after the previous one had to go on a sick leave. And here we are,” Drake finished sadly.
“Wow,” was all she could say in that moment. She didn’t know how to comment on that, so much information is so little time.
“So… Liam’s dead?” her eyes welled up with tears. “And Justin, I mean Anton, is the King now? With Olivia as his wife but she disappeared? And Bastien’s in jail? What about Maxwell? Hana? Betrand?”
“I don’t know, I didnt want to contact them in case someone caught that and they would be in trouble,” Drake shrugged nonchalantly and Riley felt angry he was so calm about it.
“And that’s it? You just ‘don’t know’? Never tried to look up for any information about them? You talk about it as if you don’t care at all!” she yelled at him and he winced slighly.
“I do care!”
“Liam is dead and you’re telling me as if it was nothing, no emotions, nothing!”
“What am I supposed to do?! Cry in front of you? Get drunk? It’s been a year, I already did all of that before.”
Riley shook her head and got up, slowly collecting her clothes. “It’s too much for me, Drake. I need a moment. I can’t believe you’re here while they are all…there. I can’t believe you don’t care.”
Drake stood still watching her getting dressed. She looked at him with this well-known disappointed look in her eyes. “You won’t say anything? Won’t start another argument? Yell at me about how wrong I am?”
“Nope, not doing that,” Drake answered walking up to her and putting his shoulders around her, locking her in his embrace. “I’m not arguing with you ever again and I’m not letting you go ever again either. You’re staying with me.”
He pressed a kiss to her cheeck and she rolled her eyes. “Gee, you’re no fun when we’re made up. I can’t even tease you! What have I done!”
He chuckled in response but his face fell slighly when he realized something.
“You know we have to keep this private, right? No one can know or we’ll both be kick out.”
“I know,” she sighed, “and you can’t be kicked out because that would cause a scandal and you have to avoid scandals so no one can find you. Maybe we should just get back to hating each other again?”
“No!” Drake pulled her closer, trapping her in his arms. She laughed.
“I’m not letting you go,” he whispered into her hair before placing a soft kiss on her temple. “It’ll be hard but we’ll manage. If I managed to hide my feelings towards you well enough that even you thought I didn’t have any for you causing you to leave, then I think I’ll be good with hiding them before the rest of the world too.”
“We’ll see about that, Mr Stagger.”
~~~~
He wasn’t joking. Hiding what was between them was hard.
Riley had to remind herself not to smile or talk to him. Luke was getting suspicious and was constantly studying her face during the classes. She cursed herself for choosing psychology as her major because that made her classmates only more observant.
Drake was trying too, he never complimented Riley on the right answer but decided to let go of bombarding Luke with difficult questions.
Not being able to spend much time with each other wasn’t easy either. Riley had classes when Drake had breaks and vice versa. Evenings beloged to her hanging out with her uni friends and Drake could only message her. They met up for weekend trips only, far away from the campus, where they would make up for the lost time and simply, where they could enjoy each other’s company.
They never came back to the conversation from weeks ago, Drake seemed to have dropped the topic but Riley couldn’t stop thinking about it.
During her evenings alone, she tried to find any information about what happened on the Internet but there were not many articles and she was sure then those that were left, were somehow controlled by Anton. She wanted to call Maxwell or Hana and ask them but she knew it’d only cause more problems. She needed to know some more but she didn’t know how.
On one Monday evening, while she was thinking of some ways to obtain information, her phone rang and she smiled seeing who was calling.
“Spenc! How are you, sweetie? I miss youuuu so much! I wish you would come here already!” Nadia kept talking on the phone and Riley could almost see her pouted face.
“I’ll be home in a few weeks, remember? Besides, you have other friends too, they can keep you company.”
“I do. But I miss you anyway. I’m dying for some new gossip! How are you and Luke? Does this awful professor stopped treating you like this? In my opinion he was jea-lous! Anyway, have I told where I am going in a few hours? To the embassy! For dinner, can you believe it?? I wish I could say ‘I made it!’ but it’s not me, Damien, you remember my friend, helped the ambassador solve a complicated case that’s been going on for ageeees and he invited us all to thank him. I’m so excited! I wish you were here!” Nadia was chattering when Riley was hit with an idea.
“Nadia… Your friend Damien, he’s–”
“He’s single, yes!”
“No, I didn’t mean it like this.”
“Oh, good, cause I think he might be into my cousin Kai!” Nadia said relieved.
“He’s a private investigator, right?”
“Yes, why?”
“And if I, hypothetically, hired him to work for me, internationally but in total secret, could he do that?” Riley asked biting her lip. She had the idea but she wasn’t sure if that would help.
“Hypothetically, yes. He’s the best and he would solve any case in no time! Is everything okay?” Nadia asked suddenly concerned.
“Nadia… do you have a moment? I want to tell you a story of a beautiful country Cordonia and of a girl named Riley and how everything changed from a fairytale to a nightmare.”
I'm a trans guy and I'm going back to school soon, just getting some prereqs out of the way then trying to get into the fire academy. I'm afraid to start transitioning while I'm still living with my moms (I'm out but its complicated) and I cant move out until I finish school and get a better job but I cant stand the thought of finishing school and still being a girl. I dont know what to do
i’m sorry for the usa-centricism. i work with what i’ve got & know.
the draft is basically required for fasfa & govt benefits
firstly, i want to mention that (in usa) legal males have to register for the draft aka “selective service” in order to receive college funding. however since trans people are not allowed to change their gender markers on the draft forms until the draft becomes active again. also whether the marker will be changed &or whether you’re disqualified for the draft is up to the board. this means unless you’re able to get the documentation showing you are/were exempt or else otherwise register before your 26th birthday (you can only be 18-25 when registering), that you will likely lose your ability to get government grants for college & other things.
quote from 2005 https://transequality.org/issues/resources/selective-service-and-transgender-people
>
Failure to [register] is punishable by up to five years in prison and $250,000 in fines, though individuals have rarely been prosecuted. Applications for federal financial aid for higher education, federal employment, United States citizenship and other government benefits have been made contingent upon Selective Service registration in order to encourage compliance. Therefore, when applying for government benefits, transgender people can often face particular difficulties in regards to their Selective Service registration status.
>
here’s the draft’s faq mentioning transgender people.
https://www.sss.gov/QA
>
How does the Military Selective Service Act apply to individuals who have changed their gender identity from the sex assigned at birth?
Selective Service bases the registration requirement on gender at birth and not on gender identity or on whether they’ve had a sex change. Individuals who are born female and changed their gender to male are not required to register. U.S. citizens or immigrants who are born male and changed their gender to female are still required to register. The legal authority is based on the Military Selective Service Act (MSSA), which does not address gender identify or transsexual persons. In addition, Presidential Proclamation 4771 refers to “males” who were “born” on or after January 1, 1960. Thus, Selective Service interprets the MSSA as applying to gender at birth because Congress did not contemplate transgender persons or a person’s gender identity when it required on “males” to register when the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940 was passed and amended by the Selective Service Act of 1948 to create the Selective Service System. Until Congress amends the MSSA or passes a separate law addressing transsexuals and gender identity, Selective Service must follow the intent of the of Congress when it required only males to register – the registration requirement is based on gender at birth.
In the event of a resumption of the draft, individuals born male who have changed their gender to female can file a claim for an exemption from military service if they receive an order to report for examination or induction.
>
this next quote is from 2005. the current pdf link from the form this quote mentions is this one: https://www.sss.gov/Portals/0/PDFs/SIL.pdf?ver=2015-02-24-150707-763 note that you must be 26 or older to fill out this particular form.
(you might want to call the place up 1-888-655-1825.) therefore, Before you get your birth certificate changed, you must get the official copy with the incorrect gender marker & deadname before you change it (in order to prove that you had the wrong classification at birth). this is in order to give them a copy. i recommend getting like at least 3 notarized copies, because these copies will have to last your entire lifetime! (and we move around, have accidents happen, sometimes we don’t get them back etc.)
>
FOR INDIVIDUALS ASSIGNED FEMALE AT BIRTH
People who were assigned female at birth are not required to register with the Selective Service regardless of their current gender or transition status. When applying for federal financial aid, grants, and loans as a man, however, you may be asked to prove that you are exempt. To request a Status Information Letter (SIL) that shows you are exempt, you can either download an SIL request form from the Selective Service website (http://www.sss.gov/PDFs/SilForm_Instructions.pdf) or call them at 1-888-655-1825. This service is free and the exemption letter you will receive does not specify why you are exempt so it will not force you to out yourself in any other application process. The Selective Service does, however, require a copy of your birth certificate showing your birth-assigned sex. If the sex on your birth certificate has been changed, attach any documentation you have to that affect. Once you receive your Status Information Letter, keep it in your files. For those FTM people who transition before their eighteenth birthdays and change their birth certificates, it is also possible to register with the service. However, no one may register after their twenty-sixth birthday. Also, please note that although Selective Service materials refer to transgender people as “people who have had a sex change,” their policies apply to those who have transitioned regardless of surgical history.
>
there’s also this information from the how to register part when you’re between 18-25. i selected a very helpful means.
https://www.sss.gov/Registration/How-to-Register
>
CHECK BOX ON FAFSAAnother way a young man can register is to check a box on the application form for federal student financial aid (FAFSA). A man can check “Register Me” on Box #22 of that form, and the Department of Education will furnish Selective Service with the information to register the man.
>
it’s also unclear on whether legally designated women can voluntarily sign up for the draft or if they are going to be compelled to do so in the future because gender-neutrality. however the trend seems to be in that direction.
https://www.sss.gov/Registration/Women-And-Draft/Backgrounder-Women-and-the-Draft
https://www.sss.gov/Registration/Women-And-Draft
https://www.military.com/daily-news/2019/02/26/no-women-dont-have-sign-draft-yet-heres-whats-next.html
TLDR: figure out how you can register for the draft so you won’t lose federal funding for college.
reasons to start transitioning before you graduate:
i would suggest that it would help your professional networking if you were able to present who you are (which coincidentally) is a guy instead of having to retcon your time there by getting a court order to correct your name & gender marker after your classmates & teachers went their separate ways.
also if you get flack over guys having sexist advantages, i would just mention that while you are trying to weed-out transphobic employers that transgender people are discriminated against, etc too. basically transphobia exists & therefore you still suffer from sexism.
it would also help to complete school. the distress might be so strong that you drop out before you get a diploma/credential which will make student loan debt much harder to pay off. if you could get your gender dysphoria/distress/issues dealt with. it could also help with getting a job when you’ve already went thru the 2nd puberty/adulting into manhood when you’re not on the clock. (seriously, hormones during puberty is basically a rollercoaster that teens tend to experience. therefore you have to take that into account when you’re deciding when to transition.)
regarding legal paperwork here’s the information for changing your name & gender marker by state & it’s also commonly easier to change your driver’s license or your state ID than it is to change your birth certificate (which is fixed to the state that you were born in AKA you can’t just move to a place with better laws). (i’m sorry for the usa-centricism.):
https://transequality.org/documents
https://transequality.org/know-your-rights/social-security
also note that you need to make sure that your social security paperwork is also corrected when you get the changes as well.
good luck, peace & love,
eve
Risks Involved With Online Prescription
Vitamins and supplements, household essentials, personal hygiene products, over-the-counter medications — all these and more are available at discount rates when you shop at our discount drugstore. But there has to be near or more of several parts , the surgeons had noticed the in tradiscal pressure is transmitted by the inclination in which the touch is seen. I didn't know how to answer it, so I got in touch with my favorite psychologist, Dr. Naif Mutawa of Soor Center. Walgreen Co. Pharmaceutical sales representatives undergo an intense training period at the start of their careers and at frequent intervals to update their knowledge of products and diseases. Now is the time to start working on your future by going through rehab. There are some facts which a layman might not be aware of, like in order to book a person with possession of marijuana, there must be a particular quantity of the substance on the person at that point of time. You will come across both portable types to accommodate your purse, and some larger sized products, that must be positioned on a table for occasion. Most people must endure recurring pain, critical pain or even short-term pain resulting from a migraine, arthritis, osteoporosis, injury or other ailments. The internet buying deals can be carried out conveniently and comfortably and that’s why most of us do not want to take the pain of actually moving out of our comfort zones. While anticonvulsants act on neurogenic pain, muscle relaxants act on pain due to muscle spasm. If I were to print at 600 dpi, the size would be 5.44 x 4.08 inches, while 300 dpi pushes it into the 8 x 10 range, about the largest print I’m inclined to do under normal circumstances. The drug user is re-educated, erroneously, motivation stimuli and the associated rewards. Most of the drugs sold by Canadian internet pharmacies are drugs that were made in the USA, and have simply been sold to Canadian distributors. Which Democratic Candidate Would Republicans Vote For
New Post has been published on https://www.patriotsnet.com/which-democratic-candidate-would-republicans-vote-for/
Which Democratic Candidate Would Republicans Vote For
How Are Primary Elections Conducted In California
Why lifelong Republican voted for a Democratic candidate in GA
All candidates for voter-nominated offices are listed on one ballot and only the top two vote-getters in the primary election regardless of party preference move on to the general election. Write-in candidates for voter-nominated offices can only run in the primary election. A write-in candidate will only move on to the general election if the candidate is one of the top two vote-getters in the primary election.
Prior to the Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act, the top vote-getter from each qualified political party, as well as any write-in candidate who received a certain percentage of votes, moved on to the general election.
The Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act does not apply to candidates running for U.S. President, county central committee, or local office.
Why You Need To Vote In The Primary Elections
True or false. You only need to vote in the November presidential election and not the primary elections.
FALSE!
For most American voters, the presidential primary elections matter more than the general election. Like Ive said before, if you live in a red state or a blue state, your vote in the presidential election wont make a difference. The rest of your state will overwhelming vote for a Democrat or a Republican. Your vote wont change your states outcome. .
But the primary elections are an entirely different story.
The presidential primaries determine who will represent the Republicans and the Democrats during the November election. Instead of voting between just 2 candidates, you have the choice of 3 Democrats or 12 Republicans. Unlike the general election, you actually have a chance of voting for your preferred candidate, not just the lesser of two evils.
How Do I Register To Vote
You have a few options:
If you have a New York drivers license or state ID from the Department of Motor Vehicles, you can register online using this tool from NYC Votes and TurboVote.
If you dont have a New York drivers license or state ID, the law requires that you sign a form and mail it to the Board of Elections office.
You can use this site to have the forms mailed to you, or you can and print the forms yourself to fill out and mail in. If you request to have the forms sent to you, they come with a pre-addressed envelope to return them.
You will be asked to plug in your name as it appears on your state ID. If you dont have one, thats OK. Just put how your name appears on official documents.
If you need language access or you want to help someone register to vote in another language, you can download the registration forms and FAQs in a bunch of languages here.
You can also request voter registration forms in various languages by calling 1-866-VOTENYC.
Lastly, you can pick up voter registration forms at any library branch, any post office or any city agency office.
After you fill them out, mail them to the BOEs main office:
Board of Elections
New York, NY 10004-1609
And make sure its postmarked by May 28.
Other materials needed: If you dont have a state ID, you will need to provide the last four digits of your Social Security number.
A dizzying selection of 46 candidates appear on the ballot in California’s recall election. Here’s a closer look at four of them three Republicans and one Democrat.
Aired: August 23, 2021 |
Early voting is underway in the Sept. 14 recall election that will decide whether California Gov. Gavin Newsom will be removed from office. The first question on the ballot is a simple yes or no: Should Newsom be recalled?
The second question who should replace Newsom if the recall passes has many voters scratching their heads. Forty-six candidates appear on the ballot, most of them longshots with little to no name recognition or political experience.
KPBS chose to examine the four replacement candidates who have most frequently polled near the top and have raised the most money. Here are details on those four.
Conservative radio host Larry Elder has led in most polls, likely helped by his national profile. But his right-wing politics would be a dramatic departure from the leftward trend in California.
Elder, who is Black, denies the existence of system racism. He opposes gun control, abortion rights and clings to the outdated term “illegal alien” to describe immigrants who are in the country without legal permission.
Elder also believes the minimum wage should be abolished.
Democratic Majority Whip Says He’s Disappointed But Not Surprised Republicans Voted To Block The Bill
Sen. Dick Durbin, the Democratic Majority Whip, said on CNN that he was “disappointed but not surprised” that Republicans voted to block the sweeping voting rights bill today.
“I thought perhaps some of the;Republicans would step up and;say that this national strategy;of changing state laws and;making it more difficult was;just wrong, but they didn’t.;They stood together,” he said.
Durbin went on to criticize Republicans as “the party that is supporting voter suppression.”
“I hope they understand, as we;do, that going in history as a;party that is supporting voter;suppression is not a good place.;For many decades, the Democratic;party of the early 20th century;was that party.;I’m not proud of that moment,;and I don’t make any excuses for;it.;I don’t want to be part of it in;the future, and I hope many;Republicans feel the same,” he said.
What You Need To Know
The Democrats voting and election bill failed to advance in the Senate after a procedural vote to open debate on the legislation was defeated by a tally of 50-50, falling short of the 60 votes needed to succeed.
Senate Democrats pitched the legislation as necessary to counter efforts by GOP-led legislatures to swiftly pass state laws that would impose restrictions on voting.;
All 50 Senate Republicans united in opposing the bill, having decried it as a partisan power grab and federal overreach into state voting and election systems.
Democrats Are United In Support Of Cooperation With Us Allies Differ On Importance Of Us Military Superiority
Democratic registered voters overwhelmingly agree that the United States should address the interests of its allies when conducting foreign policy. This view varies little among supporters of Democratic presidential candidates.
Fully 87% of Democratic voters say the U.S. should take into the account the interests of its allies when making foreign policy decisions, even if it means making compromises with them. Few say the U.S. should follow its own national interests, even when its allies strongly disagree.
Republican and Republican-leaning voters are divided over whether the United States should follow its own national interests, even when allies disagree or address the interests of allies, even if this means compromises .
There is far less agreement among Democrats in views of whether U.S. policy should work to maintain its global military superiority. Among Democratic voters who name Warren as their first choice for the nomination, 65% say that in the future it would be acceptable if another country became as militarily powerful as the U.S.; just 31% say U.S. policies should try to maintain its position as the worlds only military superpower.
Majorities of those who support Sanders and Buttigieg also say it would be acceptable if another country became as militarily powerful as the U.S.
Republican voters, by a margin of about 4-to-1 , say U.S. policies should try to keep it that America is the only military superpower.
Recent History Isn’t As Bleak As Dems Might Think
California Primary 2020: Why independents can vote for Democrats, but not for Republicans
In 2020, national Democrats looked to Texas with hope and helped raise money for State House races they thought could be flipped to take control of the chamber in Austin. The goal was to have Democrats steering the wheel when redistricting maps were drawn in 2021.;
The Democrats didnât lose any seats, but they didnât pick up any either.;
That election came on the heels of 2018 when Texas Democrats flipped 12 seats in the State House and former congressman Beto OâRourke came within 2.5 percentage points of beating Republican Sen. Ted Cruz.;
While 2020 may have been a disappointment after 2018, the Democratsâ position needs to be put into perspective, Van Meter said.
“Texas Democrats have spent the last 20 years trying to build up infrastructure in a state where everyone believes that it’s not possible to elect a Democrat,â she said.;
More and more Democratic candidates have entered local and state races in recent years after decades of election cycles when there would often be no opposition challengers to the Republican candidates.
Democratsâ momentum in 2020 continued with increased registration and voter turnout, she said.;
âIt just so happened that so did the Republicans,â Van Meter said.
The fact that Donald Trump was on the ballot proved to be a huge motivator for Republicans who previously werenât registered to get to the polls.
Democrats’ Recall Dilemma: Should They Cast A Vote For A Candidate To Replace Gavin Newsom
For many Democrats and other opponents of the recall, question No. 1 is easy. They plan to vote ‘no’.
But what about question No. 2?
That’s a dilemma for Democrats because the best-known recall candidates are Republicans like Newsom’s 2018 opponent John Cox and conservative talk radio host Larry Elder. By not voting on question No. 2, Democratic voters risk ceding the recall election to a candidate whose views they oppose.
Elder, for instance, believes that the minimum wage should be abolished and supports former President Donald Trump. Cox courted Trump’s endorsement in 2018. Former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, another well-known candidate, supported Trump’s 2020 campaign.
There are 46 candidates on the recall ballot, including nine Democrats.
The California Democratic Party is urging left-leaning voters not to select anyone on the recall ballot’s second question.
“The California Democratic Party is activating voters to vote no on the Republican Recall and leave the second question blank. It’s the only way to stop Republicans who want to take California back to some very dark days,” said party spokeswoman Shery Yang.
Former Newsom spokesman, Nathan Click, reiterated Yang’s advice for Democratic voters.
“Leave it blank. Voting no is the only way to block the Republican power grab and prevent the Republican takeover of California,” Click said.
‘No on recall, yes on Bustamante’
Bustamante told his supporters to vote “no on recall, yes on Bustamante.”
Rutherford B Hayes: Campaigns And Elections
The Campaign and Election of 1876
As the favorite son of Ohio, Rutherford B. Hayes had much in his favor. Both regular and reform Republicans liked him. He was a war hero, had supported Radical Reconstruction legislation, and championed African American suffrage. He also came from a large swing state. His reputation for integrity was excellent, and his support of bipartisan boards of state institutions endeared him to reformers. Hayes ultimately, though, realized that his simple “availability” was his greatest strength. Distasteful to no one, he was the second choice among the supporters of the other leading candidates. Nevertheless, Hayes insisted on a united Ohio delegationand at the same time did nothing to lessen his availability.;
Moreover, the 1876 Republican convention was in Cincinnati, which teemed with Hayes supporters. “Availability” did work for Hayes. James G. Blaine, the frontrunner and the favorite of partisan Republicans, was tarnished by allegations of corruption; Oliver P. Morton, the favorite of Radicals, was in ill health; Benjamin H. Bristow, the favorite of reformers, was anathema to Grant; and Roscoe Conkling, the quintessential spoils politician, was unacceptable to reformers and to Blaine. In the end, none of these candidates could muster the votes of the majority of the convention. By the fifth ballot, Hayes had picked up votes; by the seventh, he had clinched the nomination.
Harris: The Fight Is Not Over
Vice President Kamala Harris’ told reporters that “the fight is not over” after Republicans unanimously blocked the Democrats’ sweeping election and voting reform bill.
Harris expressed that she and President Biden intend to continue to push for voting reform, including the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, which is likely to come to the Senate floor later this year.
This what Harris told reporters after leaving the Senate floor where she presided over the vote:
“I was here today because obviously this is one of the most critical issues that the United States Congress could take up, which is about the fundamental right to vote in our country. And I think it is clear, certainly, for the American people that when we’re talking about the right to vote, it is not a Republican concern or a Democratic concern. It is an American concern. This is about the American people’s right to vote unfettered. It is about their access to the right to vote in a meaningful way. Because nobody is debating, I don’t believe, whether all Americans have the right to vote. The issue is the access to the voting process. Or is that being impeded? And the bottom line is that the President and I are very clear. We support S-1. We support the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and the fight is not over.”
Watch Harris’ remarks:
Cancellation Of State Caucuses Or Primaries
The Washington Examiner reported on December 19, 2018, that the South Carolina Republican Party had not ruled out forgoing a primary contest to protect Trump from any primary challengers. Party chairman Drew McKissick stated, Considering the fact that the entire party supports the president, well end up doing whats in the presidents best interest. On January 24, another Washington Examiner report indicated that the Kansas Republican Party was likely to scrap its presidential caucus to save resources.
In August 2019, the Associated Press reported that the Nevada Republican Party was also contemplating canceling their caucuses, with the state party spokesman, Keith Schipper, saying it isnt about any kind of conspiracy theory about protecting the president; Hes going to be the nominee; This is about protecting resources to make sure that the president wins in Nevada and that Republicans up and down the ballot win in 2020.
Kansas, Nevada and South Carolinas state committees officially voted on September 7, 2019, to cancel their caucus and primary. The Arizona state Republican Party indicated two days later that it will not hold a primary. These four were joined by the Alaska state Republican party on September 21, when its central committee announced they would not hold a presidential primary.
Virginia Republicans decided to allocate delegates at the state convention.
The 2024 Republican Presidential Candidate Wild Cards
The first Democratic debate back in 2019 had 20 TWENTY! candidates, so dont be surprised if the Republican field is just as large or larger. We could have some more governors or representatives run, or even other nontraditional candidates, like a Trump family member, a Fox News host or a celebrity, like Dwayne The Rock Johnson, whos said hes seriously considering a run. Stranger things have happened.
No Party Preference Voters: Pay Attention
Registered Democrats, Republicans, Greens, Libertarians and other party members, rest assured. You are guaranteed a primary ballot with all of your partys presidential contenders on it.
But voters who dont belong to a political party the fastest growing voting block in the state will have to navigate a more daunting set of obstacles to cast a presidential primary vote.
Some parties have members only policies:
The Republican Party
The Green Party
The Peace and Freedom Party
If you want to vote in one of these three primaries, youll have to join that party. You cant do it as a member of any other party, or even as a no party preference independent. No exceptions.;
The following three parties do allow political independents to cast ballots in their presidential primaries :
The Democratic Party
The Libertarian Party
The American Independent Party
But and this is an important caveat these voters do have to specifically request the ballot they want.
For those who vote in person, this is a cinch. Just go into your polling place when its time to vote and ask. But independents who vote by mail need to let your county know which ballot they want ahead of time.
Maybe you received a postcard that looks like this:
And if youve already received a ballot in the mail and were disappointed by the lack of presidential candidates, do notfill it out. You can always request a new ballot, but trying to vote twice is frowned upon .
Counties Are Doing Things A Little Differently This Time
If you live in one of the counties highlighted below, voting might look a little different this year.
In 2016, California passed the Voter Choice Act, a law aimed at modernizing the states election system, such that:
Every registered voter gets a ballot in the mail
Voters are no longer required to go to a specific polling place, but can vote at any number of voting centers or drop-off points
Voters can cast their ballots in person beginning 11 days before, and up to and including, Election Day
In 2018, five counties rolled out the new system. This year, 10 more will join their ranks. Thats fifteen counties in all containing 49% of the state population.
This is key for no party preference voters living in these counties who may not get the ballot they want in the mail. See the previous section for details.
What Percentage Of Republicans Are White
Racial Differences In Vote Choice Are Still Huge
youtube
Since American presidential elections are so close, fairly small shifts in the electorate really matter in affecting who wins. But I worry that the medias understandable emphasis on those shifts often overshadows longstanding patterns in American politics that include the overwhelming majority of voters, who arent swinging between the two parties. Despite the news coverage that sometimes implies that non-Hispanic white voters with college degrees are all flocking to the Democrats, about 42 percent of that group backed Trump in 2020, according to the recently releasedCooperative Election Study. About 64 percent of Hispanic Americans backed Biden, per CES, which might be hard to remember amid the intense coverage of Trumps gains among that voting bloc.
In many ways, the 2020 election was basically like every recent Americanpresidentialelection: The Republican candidate won the white vote , and the Democratic candidate won the overwhelming majority of the Black , Asian American and Hispanic vote. Like in 2016, there was a huge difference among non-Hispanic white voters by education, as those with at least a four-year college degree favored Biden , while those without degrees favored Trump.
With all that said, however
Gender Gap In Party Identification Remains Widest In A Quarter Century
Pew Research Center conducted this analysis to understand the changes in partisan identification over time as well as the changing composition of the U.S. electorate and partisan coalitions. For this analysis, we used annual totals of data from Pew Research Center telephone surveys among registered voters. Due to smaller sample sizes in 2018 and 2019, the data from those years has been combined in Chapter 1. The surveys were conducted in both English and Spanish. Each survey reflects a balanced cross section of the nation, with the data weighted to match the U.S. adult population by gender, age, education, race and ethnicity and other categories.
Republicans hold wide advantages in party identification among several groups of voters, including white men without a college degree, people living in rural communities in the South and those who frequently attend religious services.
Democrats hold formidable advantages among a contrasting set of voters, such as black women, residents of urban communities in the Northeast and people with no religious affiliation.
With the presidential election on the horizon, the U.S. electorate continues to be deeply divided by race and ethnicity, education, gender, age and religion. The Republican and Democratic coalitions, which bore at least some demographic similarities in past decades, have strikingly different profiles today.
Johnson Declines Vaccine Most Wisconsin Gop Congressmen Mum
Even in Congress, some members have declined to get their shots. The Washington-based political site Axios reported on Sunday that only 75 percent of the House is confirmed to have been vaccinated against the coronavirus.
On Thursday, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson said he had declined the vaccine because he had COVID-19 in October. That’s against the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“I think that probably provides me the best immunity possible, actually having had the disease,” Johnson told CBS 58. “I don’t feel pressure that I need to get a vaccine. I’d rather let other people who want to get the vaccine get it before I do.”
The CDC says a vaccine provides better protection, and scientists dont yet know how long immunity from having had the disease lasts. Vaccinations for elected leaders started in December, and a supply of the drug was set aside for Congress.
Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., steps into an elevator as the Senate holds a voting marathon on the Democrats’ $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill that’s expected to end with the chamber’s approval of the measure, at the Capitol in Washington, Friday, March 5, 2021. When the Senate took up the measure on Thursday, Johnson forced an extraordinary half-day holdup on the bill by demanding the chamber’s clerks read aloud the entire 628-page measure which took 10 hours and 44 minutes and ended shortly after 2 a.m. J. What Is Happening To The Republicans
In becoming the party of Trump, the G.O.P. confronts the kind of existential crisis that has destroyed American parties in the past.
But, for all the anxiety among Republican leaders, Goldwater prevailed, securing the nomination at the Partys convention, in San Francisco. In his speech to the delegates, he made no pretense of his ideological intent. Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice, he said. Moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue. Goldwaters crusade failed in November of 1964, when the incumbent, Lyndon Johnson, who had become President a year earlier, after Kennedys assassination, won in a landslide: four hundred and eighty-six to fifty-two votes in the Electoral College. Nevertheless, Goldwaters ascent was a harbinger of the future shape of the Republican Party. He represented an emerging nexus between white conservatives in the West and in the South, where five states voted for him over Johnson.
agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which find a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions.
The Changing Composition Of The Electorate And Partisan Coalitions
The demographic profile of voters has changed in important ways over the past two decades. Overall, the electorate is getting older, and this is seen more among Republican voters than among Democrats.
In addition, the electorate, like the U.S. population, has become much more racially and ethnically diverse. This shift is reflected much more in the demographic profile of Democratic voters than among Republicans.
A majority of all registered voters are ages 50 and older. This is little changed from 2012 , though is much higher than in 2004 or 1996 .
The shares of both parties voters who are ages 50 and older have increased over the past two decades.
However, while a majority of Republican and Republican-leaning registered voters are ages 50 and older , a smaller share of Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters are in that age group . In 1996, the age composition of the two parties looked more similar. Roughly four-in-ten voters in both parties were at least 50 years old .
Nearly a quarter of voters are ages 65 and older, up from 20% eight years ago; by comparison, the share of voters who are under age 30 has remained relatively stable . Voters who are 65 and older make up larger shares in both parties than do voters under age 30. However, the difference is much larger among Republican voters than among Democrats .
Wide Divides In Partisanship Persist By Race And Ethnicity
Some of the largest differences in partisanship continue to be seen across racial and ethnic groups.
The GOP continues to maintain an advantage in leaned party identification among white voters . By contrast, sizable majorities of black, Hispanic and Asian American voters identify with or lean toward the Democratic Party. Among black voters, 83% identify or lean toward the Democratic Party, compared with just 10% who say they are Republican or lean toward the GOP.
The Democratic Party also holds a clear advantage over the GOP in leaned party identification among Hispanic voters , though the margin is not as large as among black voters.
Among English-speaking Asian American voters, 72% identify or lean toward the Democratic Party, compared with just 17% who identify with or lean toward the GOP.
The balance of partisanship among white, black and Hispanic voters has been generally stable over the past decade. However, English-speaking Asian American voters have shifted toward the Democratic Party.
Black Leaders Were Gradually Pushed Out
For a generation after Reconstructions end, these Southern state parties had a significant number of black Republicans in leadership positions. In Texas, for example, Norris Wright Cuney a black man was the state party boss between 1884 and 1896.
But over time, white-supremacist Republicans known as the Lily-Whites pushed black leaders like Cuney and their white allies known as the Black-and-Tans out of the party.
Although this fight was mostly over control of federal patronage, the Lily-Whites argued that the only way for the GOP to win elections in the region again was to become a white party and purge its black leaders. This was because black voters were largely disenfranchised and white Southern voters were unwilling to vote for a Negro party.
To find out how and when Lily-Whites took control of each Republican state party organization, we collected data on the race of all Southern delegates to Republican National Conventions between 1868 and 1952. Our data shows a common pattern: Most Southern states saw a major decline in black leadership at some point in the early 20th century.
In some states like North Carolina, Alabama and Virginia the purge of black leaders was quick and lasting. Other states fended off the Lily-Whites for a time. Mississippi, for example, remained under the control of Perry Howard, a black man, until 1960 and consistently sent majority black delegations to the GOP convention.
Percent Of Republican Men Have Favorable View Of White Nationalists
Benjamin Fearnow, Newsweek, July 31, 2021
Anew poll shows that nearly a quarter of Republican men surveyed said they have either a very or somewhat favorable view of white nationalists in America today, while a double-digit percentage of the GOP male voters have a very favorable view of white nationalist groups.
A Morning Consult national tracking poll of 2,000 registered U.S. voters was released Friday and found that voters overall reject white supremacist groups by overwhelming percentages.
But among Republican-leaning male voters, 23 percent responded that they have a favorable view of white nationalist groups. Eleven percent of Republican men surveyed said they have a very favorable view while 12 percent said they are only somewhat favorable to white nationalists in the United States.
Seventeen percent of Democrat men in the survey said they have some form of favorable view of white nationalist groups.
Only 7 percent of overall registered U.S. voters said they have a favorable view of white supremacistsseveral percentage points lower than so-called white nationalists.
On the other hand, the survey found a more than two-thirds majority of both Republican men and women said they have a very unfavorable view of Antifa. And even among Democrats and Independents, Antifa barely registered any support above single-digit percentiles.
A new poll shows that nearly a quarter of Republican men surveyed said they have either a very or somewhat favorable view of white nationalists in America today, while a double-digit percentage of the GOP male voters have a “very favorable” view of white nationalist groups.
A Morning Consult national tracking poll of 2,000 registered U.S. voters was released Friday and found that voters overall reject white supremacist groups by overwhelming percentages. And large majorities say they’ve either never heard of or have no opinion of Antifa, a loose-knit group of anti-fascists.
But among Republican-leaning male voters, 23 percent responded that they have a favorable view of white nationalist groups. Eleven percent of Republican men surveyed said they have a “very favorable” view while 12 percent said they are only “somewhat” favorable to white nationalists in the United States.
Seventeen percent of Democrat men in the survey said they have some form of “favorable” view of white nationalist groups.
The poll showed that Republican men outweighed self-described “conservative” men in offering support to white nationalist groups by sizable percentages. And only about half of GOP women who were surveyed expressed any positive views of white nationalists compared to their male counterparts.
Only 7 percent of overall registered U.S. voters said they have a favorable view of white supremacistsseveral percentage points lower than so-called white nationalists.
National Polls Show Lower White And Older Support For Trump
Exit polls released by the national election consortium Edison Research allow for national- and state-level comparisons with those from 2016. Figure 1 shows the shifts in Democratic minus Republican voter margins for racial groups.
While whites continued to favor the Republican candidate in 2020as they have in every presidential election since 1968it is notable that this margin was reduced from 20% to 17% nationally. At the same time, the Democratic margins for each of the major nonwhite groups was somewhat reduced. The Black Democratic marginwhile still high, at 75%was the lowest in a presidential election since 2004. The Latino or Hispanic and Asian American Democratic margins of 33% and 27% were the lowest since the 2004 and 2008 elections, respectively. These shifts do not apply to all states, and are not applicable to most battleground states where voters of color were crucial to Bidens win
It is clear that white voting blocs start at different levels of Democratic or Republican support. In fact, there was a modest decline in Republican support in a key Trump base: white men without college educations. This group showed a reduced Republican advantage from 48% to a still sizeable 42% between 2016 and 2020.
When Will Republicans Face Demographic Reality
In 2013, after the Republican Party had lost the popular vote for the fifth time in six elections, the Republican National Committee issued its Growth and Opportunity Project report better known as the autopsy report calling for the GOP to recognize and respond to the nations changing demographics. Under the heading America Looks Different, the report observed that whites would become a minority sometime in the 2040s. Unless greater numbers of Latinos, Asian Americans, and African Americans could be persuaded to vote Republican, the reports authors warned, demographic changes would tilt the playing field even more in the Democratic direction.
Donald Trump, as the Republican presidential candidate in 2016, rejected virtually every recommendation advanced by the autopsy report and still managed to win, even while losing the popular vote. Although the movement toward the majority-minority crossover has continued apace during Trumps presidency, the proposition that demographic change will deliver the Democrats an enduring electoral majority no longer seems as imminent as it once did.
The report refrains from making predictions about which party is likely to benefit from the shifts that it describes. Two papers that accompany the report, however, do speculate on whether these changes will prove baneful or beneficial for the long-term political health of the Republican Party.
The Republican Party Is Getting Even Whiter
Representative Will Hurd applauds before NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg addresses a Joint Meeting of Congress on Capitol Hill.
Will Hurd apparently had enough. The Texas congressman announced last week that he will not run for re-election, one of a string of Republicans to do so in recent days. Perhaps it was that being in the congressional minority is no fun, or perhaps Hurd felt isolated as a relative moderate . Or perhaps it was the fact that as the lone African American Republican in the House, Hurd could no longer stand being asked to defend Donald Trump.
Whatever the reason, Hurd’s departure was just the most vivid recent illustration of the fact that the Republican Party, already extraordinarily white and male, is getting even more so. There are only 13 women among the 197 Republicans in the House of Representatives, making their caucus an incredible 93 percent male. Two of those women have already announced that they won’t be running for re-election in 2020 either. And as it stands now, the GOPs congressional representatives in Congress are 95 percent white.
Discrimination Against Whites Needs More Attention Say About Half Of White Republicans In 3 Southern States
In Georgia, white likely voters are divided along party lines on their views of the attention given to discrimination against Black people. Some 77 percent of white Republicans say “too much attention” is being paid to the topic, versus 14 percent of white Democrats, according to a CBS News/YouGov poll of about 3,500 voters in the Southern states of Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.
About half of white registered Republican voters in those states say more attention needs to be given to discrimination against white people in their communities. Black voters polled in the states overwhelmingly say President Donald Trump is paying “too little attention” to the “needs and problems” of Black people.
Among white likely voters in Georgia, Democrats largely agree with Black voters’ views on racial discrimination against Black people, with 58 percent say “not enough” attention is focused on it, versus only six percent of white Republicans. Black likely voters in Georgia are predominately in agreement, at 74 percent, that “not enough” attention is given to discrimination against Black people. Only 11 percent said “too much” attention is being given to it.
Although white people in Georgia are widely divided along party lines in terms of their racial discrimination views, gender distinctions reveal men are more likely to approve of Trump’s views on discrimination than women.
Newsweek reached out to both presidential campaigns for additional remarks Sunday afternoon.
Republicans Can Govern Without Winning A Majority That Threatens Our Democracy
Other surveys and precinct-level data suggest that the Trump swing among Hispanics could have been larger than CES found, with Trump gainingin the upper-single digits and winning the support of over 35 percent of Latino voters. But generally, the story of 2020 is that Trump did better with Asian American and Hispanic voters than in 2016, while Biden did better than Hillary Clinton among non-Hispanic white voters.
And these shifts had electoral consequences. Republicans flipped two U.S. House seats in California with Asian American candidates running in those districts, which have relatively high shares Asian American voters. Gains by Trump and GOP congressional candidates among Miami-area Latino voters helped flip two more House seats to the GOP, according to a new analysis of Latino voters by Equis Research. Arguably the most important shift in the electorate was Bidens gain with white voters, since white voters are both the largest bloc in the electorate and make up a disproportionately large share of the vote in swing states like Michigan and Wisconsin.
Southern Black Voters Used To Support Republicans
Right after the Civil War, black voters were the Republican Partys main supporters in the South. When formerly enslaved blacks became eligible to vote and run for office, they voted for the party of Lincoln, and GOP state organizations in the South were biracial. Both blacks and whites held leadership positions in the party.
Beginning in the early 1870s, Southern Democrats in cooperation with terrorist groups like the Ku Klux Klan began to restrict black suffrage. They did so first through direct violence and intimidation and, later, by passing legislation to effectively disenfranchise black citizens. As a result, the GOP lost its core constituency.
In a recent article, and in our forthcoming book, , we look at Republican state party organizations in the South before the civil rights era. While the GOP consistently lost Southern elections between the late 1870s and the middle of the 20th century, each Southern state had its own Republican Party organization. These organizations focused not on winning elections, but on participating in national conventions and distributing federal patronage when a Republican held the White House.
Polling Data Shows Republican Party Affiliation Is Down As Independents Leaning Toward The Democratic Party Surge
Democrats have a nine-percentage-point affiliation advantage over Republicans at the moment.
The GOP is losing its grip, according to the latest Gallup poll.
The number of Americans identifying as Republicans or as independents who lean toward the GOP dropped to 40% in the first quarter of 2021, compared with the number of Democrats or independents leaning toward the Democratic party hitting 49%. And that nine-percentage-point lead is the greatest Democratic advantage that Gallup has measured since the fourth quarter of 2012, when former President Barack Obama was re-elected.
Gallup routinely measures U.S. adults party identification and the political leanings of independents. The latest poll surveyed a random sample of 3,960 U.S. adults by phone between January and March of 2021. And while Democratic Party affiliation actually dropped by one point from the fourth quarter of 2020, to 30% where it has hovered for most of the past eight years the number of Americans identifying as independent rose to 44% from 38% last quarter. And this growing number of independents came at the expense of the Republican party, as 19% of independents said they lean Democrat, compared with 15% leaning Republican. Most of the remaining 11% of independents didnt swing either way.
And several events have happened during those three months that could position the Democratic Party more favorably in voters eyes, the Gallup report noted.
White Male Minority Rule Pervades Politics Across The Us Research Shows
youtube
White men are 30% of US population but 62% of officeholders
Incredibly limited perspective represented in halls of power
From county officials and sheriffs to governors and senators, white male minority rule pervades politics in the United States, according to a new report published on Wednesday.
White men represent 30% of the population but 62% of officeholders, dominating both chambers of Congress, 42 state legislatures and statewide roles across the nation, the analysis shows.
I think if we saw these numbers in another country, we would say there is something very wrong with that political system, said Brenda Choresi Carter, the campaigns director.
We would say, how could that possibly be a democratic system with that kind of demographic mismatch?
Two factors perpetuate white male control over virtually every lever of US government: the huge advantage enjoyed by incumbents, and the Republican partys continued focus on mostly white male candidates.
As the US barrels toward a minority-white population within a matter of decades, some believe elected officials will inevitably become more diverse. But that logic is flawed: women have always been half of the country, and they are still chronically underrepresented in government.
Last November, 96% of congressional incumbents held on to their seats, suggesting that officeholders who win their primaries benefit from a similar edge during the general election.
The Gop Is Still The White Party And American Politics Are As Racial As Ever
Chris Roberts, American Renaissance, November 6, 2020
According to exit polls, which are subject to revision, Donald Trumps share of the non-white vote was higher in 2020 than 2016, but the increase was very small.
Group
36 percent
40 percent
Some may be tempted to write about these numbers deceptively: In 2020, Donald Trump won 150 percent of his 2016 share of the black vote. Thats true 12 percent is 150 percent of 8 percent, but its still a small number, and it lacks context. Since 1964, Republican presidential candidates have won between 4 and 15 percent of the black vote. In 2016, Mr. Trump was on the low end of that range; in 2020, he reached its high end. However, it is not exceptionally high, and out of 12 other Republican candidacies since 1964, five did as well as Mr. Trump or better.
Almost every election, conservative Pollyannas claim this will be the year the GOP wins one third of the black vote. This year, like every other, proved them wrong.
Trump is going to win more of the black vote than any Republican in history.
2020 32 percent
As with Georgie W. Bush in 2000 and 2004, two states gave him a big push with Hispanics: Texas and Florida, where a large share of Hispanics live, and where they are most conservative and most likely to consider themselves white. In 2016, candidate Trump won 34 percent of Texas Hispanics; in 2020 he won 40 percent. In 2016, Trump won 35 percent of Florida Hispanics; in 2020 he won 47 percent.
Work Futures Weekender - Postnational in the Postnormal?
The top 1% will hold 64% of the world’s wealth by 2030?
2018-04-08 Beacon NY - Rana Dasgupta, the award winning novelist and journalist draws a deeply unsettling portrait of our time in The demise of the nation state, where he lays out the collapsing ideal of a world of nation states giving way to a post-national mess defined by broken power systems, kleptocracies, and tens of millions of refugees who are effectively stateless, and outlawed by the developed world. Other research projects that the wealthiest 1% will own two-thirds of all wealth by 2030.
After cataloging the chaotic dumpster fire the world has become, he says we can fix things, but it won't be easy:
This is not a small endeavour: it will take the better part of this century. We do not know yet where it will lead. All we can lay out now is a set of directions. From the standpoint of our present, they will seem impossible, because we have not known any other way. But that is how radical novelty always begins.
The first is clear: global financial regulation. Today’s great engines of wealth creation are distributed in such a way as to elude national taxation systems […], which is diminishing all nation states, materially and symbolically.
[…]
Second: global flexible democracy. As new local and transnational political currents become more powerful, the nation state’s rigid monopoly on political life is becoming increasingly unviable. Nations must be nested in a stack of other stable, democratic structures – some smaller, some larger than they – so that turmoil at the national level does not lead to total breakdown.
[…]
**Third, and finally: we need to find new conceptions of citizenship. **Citizenship is itself the primordial kind of injustice in the world. It functions as an extreme form of inherited property and, like other systems in which inherited privilege is overwhelmingly determinant, it arouses little allegiance in those who inherit nothing.
Dasgupta is preaching a new global system, a vision of a postnational world.
On the eve of its centenary, our nation-state system is already in a crisis from which it does not currently possess the capacity to extricate itself. It is time to think how that capacity might be built. We do not yet know what it will look like. But we have learned a lot from the economic and technological phases of globalisation, and we now possess the basic concepts for the next phase: building the politics of our integrated world system.
On Performance Reviews
Jinseok Chun, Joel Brockner and David De Cremer wrote the aptly named People Don’t Want to Be Compared with Others in Performance Reviews. They Want to Be Compared with Themselves. People hate performance reviews. Hate. I am using the word hate, here.
According to a survey of Fortune 1,000 companies done by the Corporate Executive Board (CEB), 66% of the employees were strongly dissatisfied with the performance evaluations they received in their organizations. More strikingly, 65% of the employees believed that performance evaluations were not even relevant to their jobs.
This is unfortunate considering the amount of resources that organizations devote to conducting performance evaluations. CEB research says that when we take into account how much money organizations are investing in their performance appraisal technology and how much time managers are spending to evaluate their employees, on average U.S. organizations spend $3,000 per year, per employee. This implies that billions of dollars are spent across the country because more than 90% of American companies provide performance evaluations at least once a year.
Why are employees so frustrated about the way they are evaluated, despite all the time and money being spent on these evaluations? What are organizations missing? We believe that one clue lies in the fact that 71% of the American employees thought that their evaluations had problems in the domain of fairness.
The authors ask the right question: what are the specific things that organizations can do to increase perceptions of fairness during the process of performance evaluations?
People are much more likely to find reviews fair is they are based on the employee's own past performance, showing progress over time, as opposed to comparing the worker's performance compared with others in the same period.
On Futurology
David Evans, the former chief futurist of Cisco, lays out his thoughts on being a futurist:
I often get asked how I predict the future. Let’s be clear: Predicting the future is impossible. In fact, being a futurist is less about predicting the future and more about understanding where the world is now and where it will be tomorrow. (Feel free to ditch those crystal balls.) It’s impossible to exactly predict how technology will impact our lives 10, 20, and even 30 years from now. However, there are several proven techniques that narrow down the countless possibilities to prognosticate a probable future.
His techniques (which are mine, too):
Read. A lot.
Apply proven principles like Metcalfe's Law, Moore's Law, Cooper's Law: Avoid linear extrapolation, expect exponential change.
Backcasting, or looking backward to look forward. Evans lays out a situation, like the idea of flying cars:
Consider a future world in which flying cars are everywhere. “What steps are needed for the vision to become reality in the future?” Now come back to the present and think about all the things that would be required for flying cars to be developed and used effectively. Such a list could include vehicle costs, air traffic control considerations, energy sources, acceptable flying ranges, take off and landing requirements, safety of “drivers” and the public, collision avoidance technology, networking and computing systems, and alternative solutions.
Next, determine the viability and timeframe of each consideration. The information created from this analysis form a picture of whether or not flying cars are possible–and if so, when.
I like this Marshall McLuhan quote, that sort of lines up with Evans' technique:
We look at the present through a rear-view mirror. We march backwards into the future.
We can’t know the future, especially today in the postnormal era: the new normal is there is no normal. But next year is unlikely to be like the last one.
Remember that when we look into McLuhan’s rear-view mirror we are seeing ourselves just as much as the road behind. And walking backwards into the future means we have to sense our way, cautiously stepping backwards and listening for the echoes.
Quote of the Day
The fact that a question is unsettling is not a justification for avoiding it.
On Automation of Policing
This could be spinned as some chilling tale of surveillance, but I prefer to think of it as augmenting inadequate police resources in increasing public safety. Daniel Oberhaus reports on China Is Using Facial Recognition Technology to Send Jaywalkers Fines Through Text Messages:
Emblematic of this unprecedented surveillance apparatus are the facial recognition devices deployed in Shenzhen last April that are meant to deter jaywalkers. These devices take photos of offenders and display them on large LED screens above the intersection, along with their name and part of their government ID number. (There is also a website showing photos and information for jaywalkers in Shenzhen.)
Now Intellifusion, the Chinese artificial intelligence company behind these devices, is taking them a step further by partnering with mobile carriers and social media platforms such as WeChat and Sina Weibo to send text messages directly to offenders as soon as they are caught jaywalking by the cameras.
Since implementing the devices, Chinese traffic police have identified nearly 14,000 jaywalkers at a single Shenzhen intersection alone, according to the South China Morning Post. Moreover, Chinese officials claim that the devices have lowered the number of jaywalkers in the city.
Purchasing Mexico Auto Insurance
Purchasing Mexico Auto Insurance You must understand that Mexican auto insurance is regulated under the laws of that country. Most of the same terms that apply to Mexican auto insurance are not necessarily apply in any other country. Mexican auto insurance is required in most, or all, states. To get coverage, the state you reside in is an important factor. So, for example, if you are living in the US, your state of residence has some sort of insurance requirements, but in most any state, car insurance has to meet the same minimums. Mexican will be different than most insurance policies for your location. Most of the Mexican required are minimum limits of liability of $25,000 per person (full coverage) and $50,000 per accident. Also, it is possible to have up to $1 million per accident. For example, you and your parents could end up paying almost $200,000 per year on a combined $600,000 combined policy. At the posthumous retrial of Joan of Arc in 1455, two decades after she was burned at the stake as a witch and a heretic, she was declared an innocent martyr. During the trial, a personal valet offered evidence of Joan of Arc’s piety and purity during her 19 years on Earth: “She never suffered from the secret illness of women.” As far as the people closest to her knew, he claimed, she never got her period.
Saintly qualifications aside, amenorrhea—the abnormal absence of periods—has historically been linked with misfortune. In 400 b.c., Hippocrates wrote that “when the menses are stopped, diseases from the uterus take place.” In 1652, the physician Nicolas Fontanus identified amenorrhea “as the most universal and most usual cause” for palsy, melancholy, burning fevers, nausea, headaches, and a distaste for meat. Some 18th-century physicians believed that suppressed menses could cause a married woman to spiral into deep hysteria, and even in 1961, the epidemiologist Frances Drew proposed that a young woman might manifest mental anguish by losing her period.
But some doctors today offer amenorrhea to patients as young as age 14 or 15: Menstruation has now become an elective bodily process. “Once your periods are established, we can turn them off,” Sophia Yen, a pediatrics professor at Stanford Medical School, told me. “We now have the technology to make periods optional.”
Few are as passionate as Yen about the possibility of a world with far less cyclical bleeding. “It’s my crusade,” said Yen, who also co-founded and runs Pandia Health, a birth-control-delivery company. “This is my moonshot.” People who have periods spend an average of 2,300 days of their lives menstruating. If more people chose to silence their period—or even just dial down the volume—that would mean a decrease in iron deficiency (which women experience at far higher rates than men), and fewer plastic tampon applicators littering landfills.
Yen envisions the period of periods soon coming to an end. But even though menstruation is often messy, painful, and expensive, it’s a meaningful fixture of adulthood for some, and one that can be hard to let go of.
Gabrielle, a 24-year-old who lives in St. Petersburg, Florida, got her first period in fourth grade. (The Atlantic allowed her and others in this story to use their first name only, to protect their privacy.)
“It felt incredibly, incredibly unfair,” she told me, to have been the first among her friends to menstruate. “There were all these little moments where it was embarrassing and bad and painful and weird”—sneaking off to the bathroom with bulky pads stuffed in her shirt, swimming while on her period, learning how to use tampons. Then, at 20, Gabrielle got a hormonal IUD (intrauterine device) for birth control and, as a side effect, stopped getting regular periods. “It feels really good to not worry” about keeping the bathroom well stocked or missing a day of work, she said. “I will keep getting an IUD until I’m ready to get pregnant.”
Today, any doctor will tell you there is no medical necessity for periods unless you’re trying to conceive. The body preps for pregnancy by thickening the uterus’s lining, like a bird building a nest for her eggs; hormonal birth control prevents pregnancy, in part, by keeping the uterine lining from ever building up. Many of the roughly 19 million Americans who rely on the pill, the shot, IUDs, implants, patches, or rings see a change in their period—often it’s lighter, but it can also disappear altogether. In clinical trials, more than 40 percent of the Liletta IUD’s users no longer menstruated by the end of the product’s six-year life. More than half of people who get the Depo-Provera shot every three months will become amenorrhoeic within a year, and almost 70 percent in the second year. And anyone using the pill, patch, or ring can safely skip scheduled withdrawal bleeding.
But getting a lighter flow as a side effect of birth control is different from choosing a contraceptive method in the hopes of turning off a period completely, and there are all sorts of reasons someone would want to do so. The cost of so-called feminine products can add up to thousands of dollars over a person’s lifetime: A recent study found that nearly two-thirds of low-income women surveyed in St. Louis couldn’t afford menstrual-hygiene products during the previous year. (This study, and others cited in this story, did not specify whether participants included trans men or nonbinary people who get periods). Amenorrhea can be a medical necessity for people with certain health conditions—such as those born without an intact uterus and vagina. It’s also a treatment option for heavy bleeding or otherwise painful periods, which afflict about one in five women, and can help relieve symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which affects 6 to 12 percent of U.S. women of reproductive age. Or a period simply may be one burden too many, especially during a pandemic: A tweet in March proclaiming that “menstrual cycles also need to be suspended until this ordeal is over” started racking up hundreds of thousands of likes.
For those whose periods are not just a monthly nuisance, but a medical complication in and of itself, amenorrhea can be a revelation. Valentina, a 20-year-old in Medellín, Colombia, was diagnosed with PCOS at 14, after her periods became practically intolerable. “The cramps were so, so strong; I couldn’t walk. I went through one tampon in one hour. I couldn’t sleep at night,” she told me. “It was traumatic.” In 2017, Valentina got a hormonal IUD and has since stopped menstruating. “After losing it, you see how much easier life is,” she said. “I’m not sure I want to have a period again.” For Nik, a 20-year-old transgender man living in Chicago, getting an IUD to suppress his period provided both mental and physical relief. “You don’t want the physical reminder every month that you weren’t born in the right body,” he told me. He went from doubling up on pads and tampons to, now, the occasional spotting.
For more than a decade, associations of obstetricians and gynecologists have assured doctors that it is safe for patients to try to reduce or eliminate menstrual bleeding—for personal or medical reasons—with hormonal contraception. There is far less certainty about how often that’s actually happening.
A 2013 survey asked 4,039 women of reproductive age in North and South America and Europe about hormonal contraception and periods; one-third said they knew it was possible to regularly reduce menstrual bleeding with birth control, and about 10 percent of respondents had done so. Other, much smaller studies have also documented the use of birth control to suppress periods. In 2016, researchers examined menstrual suppression among 400 Iranian Muslims who had made the pilgrimage to Mecca; they found that all but a few reported taking birth-control pills to quiet their period, and three-quarters of them successfully. A 2011 questionnaire of 500 U.S. veterans found that two-thirds of them had wanted to suppress their cycle during their deployment, and almost all of the subjects expressed a desire for mandatory education on how they could use birth control to avoid menstruating in combat zones.
Yen sees a future in which many more people know they can opt out, and do—in which no one menstruates unless they’re within two years of their first period or are trying to get pregnant. “In my ideal world, it would be about 28 periods over the course of a lifetime,” she said. Right now, that figure is in the hundreds. For Yen, a mother of two daughters—a 10-year-old who hasn’t gotten her period and a 13-year-old who has—that rebalancing would place her own children on a more level playing field with boys. Without periods, she says, they won’t miss two days of school or work each month, or get cramps during the SAT or swim meets, or deal with any of the other related stresses. “I want them to be competitive against those who don’t have uteruses,” Yen said. “Teenage years are so turbulent and horrific as is. I don’t want them to suffer unnecessarily—and I can alleviate this for my child.”
But a period-free future still remains a radical idea. “Menstruation can limit some people, but I reject that’s true for everybody,” says Colleen Krajewski, a family-planning specialist for the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Contraception and Family Planning. Many people, for example, rely on periods to know they’re not pregnant. Those recovering from eating disorders might see them as a sign that they’ve begun recovering from malnourishment. And some just enjoy the feeling of being in touch with their monthly cycle.
One key reason people will continue to opt in is the persistent, deep-set discomfort about not having your period. Last October, a group of researchers in Indiana and South Carolina reported that across a mix of focus groups, individual interviews, and online surveys, “most found the idea of not menstruating strange, unhealthy, and worrisome.” In a small, 2016 experiment, Canadian researchers discovered that a majority of the participants were suspicious of ads that presented the pharmaceutical suppression of cycles as a lifestyle choice; many specifically cited health concerns. “I know my body is healthy when it bleeds every month,” one participant told researchers, “and I would be very concerned if that didn’t happen.”
Patients tend to have a lot of questions about what not menstruating means for their reproductive health, says Margaret Nachtigall, a reproductive endocrinologist at NYU’s Langone Health. Do I risk infertility? Am I losing bone density? Am I clogging up with trapped menstrual blood? Some people harbor the unsettling misconception that without a period, toxic blood will build up inside them, Chelsea Polis, of the Guttmacher Institute, has found in her research. “That’s very scary for someone to worry about that,” Polis told me.
And that confusion makes sense, because amenorrhea can be a symptom of medical conditions such as eating disorders, pituitary or thyroid disease, and hepatitis. “Not getting a period is normally something worth investigating,” Nachtigall says. She and other gynecologists told me many of their patients struggle to feel normal without a period. I certainly did. I haven’t had a regular period since 2017, when I got my hormonal IUD. After so many years of ebbs and flows, I felt inert, as if my body couldn’t tell time once unmoored from its monthly cycle. It was an uncomfortable realization: I hated having my period, and I also hated losing it.
Yen fields similar concerns from her patients. “I tell them, ‘It’s okay to bleed less,’” she said. “The reason people feel like it’s quote ‘unnatural’ is that so many of us have had one every month for so long.”
A lot of control freaks are at risk. Mostly,control freaks
The ones that must invite evil into other's lives.
The mom that doesn't care her daughter doesn't like her fiance and feels it a mistake to have gotten engaged. But continues to push her daughter, even planning the wedding for her to force her to marry someone whom will be unkind to her
The moms that get limited money welfare or child support and goes and gets her nails and hair done and leaves the children in rags.
The moms that force their children to be perfect at all times, children never had the joy of feeling free. Mud between their toys without receiving corporal punishment aka an ass whipping.
The "friend" always pushing you into drug use.
The "friend" bullying you to go out every night calling you a nerd for wanting to do homework or eat dinner with family.
The teacher that stuffs more and more work down your throat with nary an encouraging word nor tone.
The principal that beats students so hard with paddles it can be heard through the halls of the school and the child not being able to sit pain free without days.
The doctor that doesnt listen to your symptoms and sends you home without proper care Because they are too busy and overbooked.
The dentist that applies a chemical to rot teeth so that they can get money from repairing what looks like cavities in xrays
The adults breaking bones in others because they're "too" drunk or high or much of an ass hole not to be selfish jerks.
Bullies. People that don't mean well but we trust with our souls and lives and they purposely push advice or decisions onto others who dont want them.
Someone who doesn't allow you to breathe freely.
"You don't know how to allow us to breathe. So let us breathe for you" The Ventilator response to idiots and jerks who think they rule the world and you aren't allowed to think or breathe for yourself. In response to the person whom says "you don't know how to breathe. Let me do it for you"
Breathing the same term as live.
Its a beautiful virus Corona and COVID-19
Ironically it affects most Zulululu aliens... And they are the ones that created it.
Welcome to Eaerth. 🌎
COVID-19
Co Ventilator ID (children & adults as age) 19
Those of us helicopter parents ... Co parent the child with the world and the child as age 19.
Those of us helicopter children .... Co parent the parent with the world and parent as age 19.
Thus you see the equation is equality between children and adults.
I by far have raised more children than any other teacher taught for a maximum of 60 years and done it better than them by treating them as adults.
62% of negative comments about the way i taught the NHRA children said I needed to tone down sexual abuse and other information i gave them, the problem is As Adults we Learn that we were sexually abused and People KNEW at that time we were young that it was bad. So i had to tell them each and every thing that could be bad. Because they asked.
They asked me an "adult" question. I treated their questions as they were planning to go play with another child's vagina and wanted to know what the abuse part was.
Had I not explained in exact and general terms as I did they could become sexual predators themselves.
That is how i dealt with the situation. Because I was too afraid they would say "that happened to me" So i treated them as potential abusers. Because I would have ended up back behind that candy shack shaking and hysterical losing my mind. So i put up a barrier between their possible pain and myself.
And educated them in how not to become a sexual predator.
Of those NHRA children, in that sexual awareness class, 13 children only 1 became a sexual offender, repeat rapist and it was Ben who refused to listen and usually sat at his desk drawing. Of the kids that paid attention 0 became sexual offenders.
And if you watched the video they clearly focused on Ben to show he was not listening to the content nor context.
Furthermore. I had to teach them all the ins and outs so if perhaps they were an unfortunate victim they would tell me and we would have the CIA investigate so it would never happen to them
I didn't know if they asked because they were thinking about bodies and various ways they could be touched or if they were asking because they had been touched that way.
So had i shut down any child's question with that's too much information and not have a male come explain it and never have the question answered. I knew i would slam the door in the child's face from self healing from abuse or preventing it from happening to them or to someone else.
They needed all the information available. To understand that if they are touched wrongly they have to know it was wrong and that they could get help. They deserved help and someone would help them.
If i said generally "if you are touched here here or here and you don't want to be and so you were molested" then we would have a shit ton more false rape reports out there.
More lives ruined for lack of information
More lives ruined for lack of information.
Treating every one as age 19. Old enough to smoke. Old enough to rent their own home. Old enough to have their own car. Old enough to know better and too young to care.
50 year old ... "Oh sonny I can't do that I'm too old" no ya ain't old lady. You can do it too.
5 year old ... "My mom says I'm too young but i know I can" then it's something that age isn't discriminatory about.
One common thing is Learning. A child can go to an University class. 7,852,931,862,985,301 people signed up for the free wellness class at Yale of those people 76% were under age 18.
Yale. A top Ivey League school. A University most people are aged 18 or more to attend.
13% were age 50 and above.
Two different people age groups vastly far from one another deciding they could do the same exact thing a 19 year old can do.
COVID-19 surviving.
We don't take away Granny's drivers license simply because shes old. She has the same rights to decide her driving benefits as a 19 year old.
No putting granny in a nursing home when she can still keep up her own residence. She has the same rights to decide where and when to live as a 19 year old.
No telling granny and our son who they cannot or can date. When our 3 year old says "my soulmate Is here. I want to introduce you and myself to her" then you go as if they were 19 years old.
COVID-19 that term will allow us surviving the Apocalypse to survive our world that is leftover.
Corona Virus. Time down with Our Spouse and children. The difference between a child and adult is the adult can drink a beer because they are over the age of 21. So in the state of COVID-19 we still respect you're fucking old enough to have kids and we can't tell you what to do.
Wahu Virus. Whahoooooo!! The world will be a better place everyday.
We didn't create the virus. Only the names and chose to not prevent the disease to be released but to be available to be spread.
Nathaniel is always ordering the release of Viruses in China and Hong Kong. I over heard his phone calls and wrote them here. Only 62% of you remember.
He wanted a job...
So it was apparently a code. So our CIA went into the computer and advised them to release it into the Wahu zip code. Meanwhile our CIA on the ground prevented and arrested the ones spreading the disease and only allowed 25% of the virus to hit its targets.
We knew it would spread naturally and the thing was to make a big deal instead of a big virus splash into our air and land.
The targets were outlying rural areas that we allowed. Not deep city but because it was air based we chose to allow the open air places to receive the diseases.
So in a place where 500,000 people would be exposed we closed that to an area where only 5,000 would be.
So while we chose to allow a virus to spread we already had magic done to allow it to kill only EVIL HUMANS. as aliens are not ours to kill...
Except as it progressed evil aliens took too much joy and wanted to do destruction, too. So that is when Wendy and her Team changed the virus to include also Evil Aliens who have no right to be on Earth.
As People became concerned as to how to not catch the Virus COVID-19 became the name.
We never wanted China to be held responsible nor it be called The China virus so we never called it Wahu. Straight to Corona. We said we would back fold it to why we chose that location in particular.
Nathaniel's Zulululu lab is in northern China. So it would been in China it was released. We made up a huge event that was top secret about anti government assassins... People like me would be attending in the millions. And so this way we manipulated the Zulululu to believe it was the best place when really we Jist liked the name and it would suit our purpose to educate for future reasons.
We had to shut down the world's government. And this was simple.
To prove i do have control of the world and we don't want Zulululu here at all or other aliens. They don't fit. They don't live well here. We don't mesh. We aren't friends.
I'm not living on a planet that always deems killing and war necessary. For Some one to try to gain control like sport while hurting my friends I allow to live here, this is my planet it wasn't created by any another than me and Alex. Marc is a star from a collapsed galaxy. Its a long story. But we are a 3some.
When Venus was attacked. We allowed them a safe Haven. We invited them and changed our world to include them
Those some aliens that attacked Venus live here now.
I allowed them and all aliens from 1777 to 1977 to prove they have the ability to sustain their alien life here. Only 1 planet has proven they had the ability.
In the film Virgin River i once again visited to notify the leaders of Zulululu they needed to evacuate inn 1979. They instead said they would change me to rule the world. So i took that challenge. It is now 2020. And they have failed. All alien life has failed.
In the film you'll see I do things my way. To prove they are wrong and do not deserve a place on my planet.
You'll see i do allow friendly conversation and warmness between the community and I.
I get tired of the lying bitch ass mayor and i do strike her with a heart attack. You'll see me extra extra pissed off in those episodes.
So review those and realize I'm totally fucking pissed. Especially when i am standing in her living room after.
But i still remain friendly. I even bring the bitch her dam mattress down.
But i wanted to kill her and didn't. I could had but th3 point was to tell her to quit lying. She figured out who I was fairly early on and abandoned the baby to distract me. I was a trophy to be kept In the neighborhood. Not someone to listen to.
Look at Chloe's eyes. She's certainly of an alien quality..
I also knew what they were up to.
If you watch it seems things take abrupt turns ... Its research. Knowledge gained from patterns and observations.
Like now i watched and right away knew who was lovers. But it is not revealed until i figure it out then. So when she brings out the divorce I had only realized it after going into,her bedroom that the cabin was hers. And doctor had already yelled at her about me staying in his cabin. So in her bedroom I realized they were at one time living together due to her decor. And photos on the night stand on his side of the bed...
Point is we ghosted into alien communities refusing to leave to ask them to leave. Walked and existed in their communities as we did in our own with our True Loves, family and friends.
We proved they had not adhered to guidelines.
And this is why we have WWIII.
Because they are still here.
In the film you'll see phones like now to show them what we could be provided and would provide their home planets with to communicate on.
When they refused we took all our stuff away. And left them with nothing. If we replaced a TV with one of ours... When i left. They had nothing left. I took what was mine in a fit of rage. And didn't return what had stood there before.
We provided them with these items via magic 1-4 months before arriving so they would not suspect a stranger.
The first time we hadn't and in 1979 it was the second time we attempted to help them gently understand they needed other leave.
That is why what you see now in WWIII is so cold, calculated and done. Pissed off. No 2 ways. Fuck you do what i say.
33 years extra i tried different ways. Their recommended ways. To allow them one last chance..
Now in my mind these bitches are all dead. Cause im gonna kill what they live in and eject their souls.
Currently our galaxy is in a black hole. So they can't find us and how to return. Any Galaxy in a Black Hole means if you try to enter you will be killed upon sight..
No "are you lost can i help you?" Instant death.
And our planet is in a black hole within the black holes. It has been since 1817. That is why the only planet we see is Venus because we brought it with us.
Otherwise we could see almost every planet and moon in existence but we don't.
Because of rude ass alien invaders.
So with the Corona Virus we made rules that have punishment of death attached if they are not followed precisely.
To further protect us in the future.
"What's your parenting plan?"
"COVID-19 and if we don't do it we will die"
Aliens will think again about settling in if for some reason they happen to make it to Eaerth.
Then we ruthlessly kill aliens "that wasn't age 19" no second chances..
Loop hole is all ages are treated as 19. So if they do treat us as age 19 because they studied before trying to invade...,well that happened to so and so when,they were 10 --- "we are informed you treated him like a 10 year old. You must be executed immediately"
19 at age 10. 10 at age 19.
You see? Air and water tight.
No one is fucking with our planet again.
Simply they will learn to stay the fuck off.
Don't worry m I break this down to nano if ever we're invaded.
But I built it beyond xyano to prevent it.
So we will be okay.
Work on being safe and taking care and enjoying life. Memorizing your new parental models of COVID-19
BUT IT WAS REALLY REALLY SAD OKAY... im just saying
reflecting on this now i think i kind of understand why
the past few months i’ve been trying to come to terms with the fact that, you know, i’m getting older, i’m going to be graduating soon, i’m going to be out on my own soon... and not only that but my parents are getting older, my dog is getting older, you know, they’re my family and it’s just such a terrifying thought to me..
and i just... i think i have a lot of empathy for people/media/things involving family/loved ones/these kinds of things because it’s been weighing so heavily on my mind recently.. i mean that sauropod death? it was really really sad to me already but now that i think about it i think it really got to me because it just... reminded me of my dog as silly as that might sound.. i mean they’re totally different situations and one’s a freakin dinosaur but it’s just.. i mean
and i saw this thread on reddit about if you have to have your pet put down because of age then stay in the room with them even if it’s hard because otherwise they spend the last few moments with people they dont know in a place they dont know and UGHHHH i just am blubbering like a baby right now because i’ve just been thinking and thinking and thinking about that and i just CANT stop thinking about that.
and recently my dad told me about how when he first came to the u.s. how little he really had... i mean of course i knew that my parents came with very little to their name but he actually told me about his first few days in america and what he had to do.. and he wasn’t telling me as a lesson or anything he was just telling me as just a story and i was just so incredibly blown away honestly. i just can’t imagine what that would be like. i cant imagine being in that situation... he and my mom were only a few years older than i am right now when he came to the u.s., barely knowing any english, only $40 to his name (FORTY freaking dollars), no friends or family here, no place to go.. it just was so incredible to hear and i really, really, really don’t know if i could have managed the same thing had i been in my parents’ position.. which scares me and makes me kind of feel like a failure
but it’s not just that, it’s just hearing how they started out like that and now we’re here... like I’M here, i’m living a comfortable life because of my parents, because they worked so damn hard and made so many sacrifices to get here and to give me a good life.. they started from basically nothing and worked and worked and worked and now i’m here because of them and i just wish i could be a better daughter and you know, give them something that would have made it all worth it because i really dont feel like i have right now
i just wish i had really understood the value of what they have given me sooner... anyway it’s just... hard because sometimes i feel like the weight of the world is on my shoulders and i feel like i shouldn’t feel that way because what i’m going through can’t possibly be what they went through but at the same i’m trying hard not to invalidate my feelings but the whole thing is just this confusing mess... and i’m struggling to understand it all and it’s just hard.. it’s really hard. i am TERRIFIED of the future, i am terrified of having no family, i am terrified of being alone. it’s just that suddenly it seems like everything is moving way way way too fast and i just want it to slow down, PLEASE.
honestly i just feel so overwhelmed right now, you know, sometimes i just feel like i can’t breathe. i just dont know what to do. sometimes i just get really really wrapped up in my head and my thoughts like RIGHT NOW and it’s just so overwhelming. and i just kind of isolate myself from people which probably just makes it worse because it makes me feel even MORE alone but i dont know how to reach out which i admit is entirely my fault it’s just like... it’s easier to not do that. ugh
ugh. everything is just hard right now. i’m also really fuckin tired of crying! i’m sick of it dude. and i really really miss my parents right now. i’m going home tomorrow at least. you know like i’ve been thinking about if i get a job out of town or even out of state i think i’m gonna be really.. really homesick and lonely. i told my parents that i’d be fine but honestly i just dont really know. i always hear/see people moving away and out and how they want to get out of here and yes, part of me does want to see something new and be somewhere new but also part of me is just scared and wants to stay near home and family. I’m just so scared because I don’t know how much time is really there and I feel like i’m being overdramatic because it’s not even like my parents are super old or anything, they are 50 and 51 BUT I JUST CAN’T HELP BUT WORRY and part of it is probably cause i will well and truly be alone when theyre gone and it’s driving me crazy thinking about this so much
