People who say there should be a magnus archives live action adaption....... why? Why do you want that? You want Netflix to make an 8 episode show and cast a bunch of skinny white people.... why do you want that.... do you really think that there's any world in which a streaming platform would do tma justice?

Ai Kayano and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Part One?)

This is probably one of the most iconic “they should get together” duos in the seiyuu community. Of course, we have Kenichi Suzumura and Maaya Sakamoto, we have Satomi Satou and Takuma Terashima, and Ao Takahashi and Shinnosuke Tachibana, but what about these two?? First, I don’t ship real life people. It isn’t my place to do that. Second, there’s almost always a “Get married” comment on videos where they appear together.

Why would anyone ship them?

This Reddit thread explains it really well.

Lost Subs (that’s their YouTube channel) explains it (I’m going to try to summarize the summary thread, but it’s still a bit long):

They debuted in the same year and on the same work. They also have been in many shows together (at least 30).

Moreso, Kayano has been on many radio and events with Matsuoka. Just because they are in the same set, people often do not talk to each other. Many people in this industry are shy and are trying to be professional. Matsuoka, in particular, is extremely shy and has anxiety issues especially in his early years [and especially in social settings].

Kayano's very used to making small talk. Kayano like many other seiyuu gravitates towards people their age when they are on break. This is part of the reason why she thought they had a bond. Kayano also admires how hard Matsuoka tries and his approach to acting.

Matsuoka had admired Kayano in the way she's able to take the pressure. How she's always calm. You can hear that here in the Kamisama no Memocho clip. I (Lost Subs) translated.

Three years later, when Matsuoka and Kayano did the No Game No Life radio, Matsuoka revealed he didn't share that bond Kayano thought they had. This did shock Kayano. They have been through several events in the three years prior to that radio, and you can see how observant Kayano is of Matsuoka in those events. So Kayano was determined to be Matsuoka's friend on NGNL radio - it literally was Kayano's goal on that radio.

On other radios around the same time (some before and during), you can hear Matsuoka saying stuff about his anxiety. Many things he said matches Kayano's personality as a person he's not comfortable with. Kayano wasn't the only person he was scared of though. You can see on many many events prior to NGNL that Matsuoka needs huge personal space because he's uncomfortable around people. Like 2-3 chair distances of space. [He is also noted to be bad with eye-contact.] Some live feeds/events tried to work around this with creative seating spacing or put Matsuoka on a separate table as a guest/host position. Many sets also just gave up and allowed this huge awkward space to be displayed. It's wasn't too uncommon for him to be the MC and the heroine to sit on the opposite part of the stage or a line of guys sitting between him and the girls regardless of their significance to the story.

On the NGNL radio, Kayano slowly closed that distance. In fact, now Kayano is someone Matsuoka trusts a lot. It's pretty evident how much more comfortable Matsuoka is around Kayano than around other females.

That being said, Matsuoka has said recently she's a 6/5 on the friend scale (yes, over the scale). Although Matsuoka's BFF Shimazaki Nobunaga is a 7/5.

“VOICE RECORDAAAAA” - Matsuoka He gets very embarrassed and keeps his distance, and Yoko Hikasa’s accent steals part of the show.

Yes, Kayano’s manager went to the lengths of going and recording his recording session. He went to Matsuoka, asked permission, then sent her the video, and the video makes her happy.
