oh my GOD i have so many thoughts on this shit.

first of all, HORRENDOUS marketing. Colossal Biosciences is doing INSANELY scummy shit, and they have tried to "bring back" creatures like woolly mammoths and dodos with no real success. i'd bet my bottom dollar they're trying to use this language for this project as a "proof of concept" to sell to investors, because THEY DID NOT DO SHIT.

they edited, by their own admission, 14 total genes, making 20 changes between them, using CRISPR technology (which is entirely it's own mess of a situation and probably doesnt give us the degree of control its usually sold as, but thats an entirely different can of worms)

but i need to make it clear. MOST OF THOSE CHANGES. WERE TO COLOR. other changes were to ear size, body size, and fur texture.

THEY MADE TIMBER WOLVES. THAT ARE WHITE. AND CALLING THEM DIRE WOLVES.

and if that wasn't bad enough, Dire Wolf were Not related to wolves. they're not in the same genus. dire wolves are most closely related to african jackals and african painted dogs than anything else currently alive. theyre more closely related to my niche canine blorbo The Dhole than any extant wolf species, particularly north american ones.

and lets be clear, even with jackals being the most related currently alive species, jackals are still more closely related to timber wolves than either one is to the dire wolf.

there are LITERALLY MILLIONS of genes worth of difference between grey wolves and jackals, and millions MORE between jackal and dire wolf. and they edited FOURTEEN. and CALLED IT A DIRE WOLF.

dire wolf were only Called that because they had similar skeletal shapes and pack hunting behavior, but currently we think they'd look more like a jackal or coyote than anything else. and reconstructing COLOR? spending MOST OF YOUR EDITS ON COLOR? this is not at all what a direwolf would look like, even remotely, and it CERTAINLY wont tell us anything about how they BEHAVED.

they make claims about how they want to release these animals into the wild (to their "rightful place" as their website says), but the ecological niche that dire wolf filled no longer exists. dire wolf are a species of megafauna, who specialized in hunting other megafauna. the only living species of megafauna is moose, and modern timber wolves, bear and humans are known for hunting those just fine. if you released a dire wolf into the north american wilds, it would compete with endangered timber wolves for resources.

its one thing to save a species from wild extinction that experienced it recently, where its niche was not otherwise filled, but wolves DID fill that niche. introducing a dire wolf at this point would have the same issues as introducing an invasive species. this was not a species that RECENTLY went extinct in the wild. there is no longer space to support an animal like a dire wolf in the wild.

they say they're "committed to transparency," but they refused to release the 2 complete dire wolf genomes they used to splice into the pups DNA. when it comes to welfare, they've refused to explain what species of surrogate they used (most speculate it was a domestic dog) or what care conditions for those are/were.

this is a flagrant marketing ploy, its total BS.

and not for nothing, the Colossal Biosciences website uses AI generated images.

this company is so frustratingly misleading. They did not bring back the direwolf (Aenocyon dirus). They modified a modern grey wolf (Canis lupus) into having some direwolf morphology. There has been no de-extinction. This is pure hype slop. As a friend said "these are dire wolves the same way La Croix is a fruit".

hhh is genuinely a fantastic pokepasta and i couldn't get enough of it once i started wrapping my head around it. we've always been a HUGE fan of more abstract, interpretative, and experimental work so seeing a pokepasta go ALL IN on that approach was fantastic and i genuinely think it's one of our favorites now.

everything about how it was written really.. struck a chord with us. I COULD BE SO FAR OFF THE MARK im so sorry but im trying to articulate it. something about memory loss and identity loss and dissassociation. and how vulnerable it leaves you and how desperate you can become for an escape, no matter how much that escape hurts, because its surely better than the alternative. becoming dependent on something or someone that pains you because theres nothing else to turn to or so you believe.. and eventually it's all you know and turning back seems impossible. and you just fall deeper and deeper because the more it hurts the more it at least feels real and its become synonymous with comfort. its a very potent work to me is what im saying

Mostly because they're probably overwhelmed by the material itself and i dont blame themJLKJSDGFLKJSDGK . you could interpret hexi as either the truama , the effects of it , a reflection of how one views their own trauma or themselves within it , etc . But liek i said that's also only one side of the picture too even within the aspect of it being focused around trauma . the Situation could be representative of the trauma or a flashback . Or it could be some kind of a conversation situation . Or it could be a person . Or it could all be fake . Or it could be the person having a Funky Time !

and theres even more that you could do with this . liek . I feel a bit bad for not being able to put as much as much as i could into the updates that came after the first two chapters/parts to imply Other Things:tm: other than the fact that there's just random chaos going on , mostly because HHH is the type of story where you spot a new sentence you haven't read before and it changes EVERYTHING .

i dont know if this counts as popular but i HATE when people (even in jest) ship vivec/molag bal. have never read the sermons or anything nor do i plan to but from the snippets i HAVE read, i just dont know how you read it and… think to ship it? more than a little messed up.

i wont get into it further but even outside of typical shipping spaces, it’s just. fucked. i normally don’t insult people’s interpretation of lore and things as a whole but when you get to shit like the sermons and the tribunal lore (particularly anything kirkbride had a say in or wrote himself) i really feel like… people have a shortage of common sense and reading comprehension and interpretation– although it gets to a point where you can blame not only the reader but the quality of the writing in itself. which… isn’t great, so it’s just a mess all around (as my lethargic middle-of-the-night brain aptly says as an example, you can’t write a quality thesis out of shit sources)

the weirdness around cicero’s uhh… fandom put me off of his character (plus i just grew to like… hm. different types of characters) and therefore put me off of LDB/cicero in any sort of way, which is something i unfortunately used to ship.

there’s also the fact that i read this one fanfiction of the LDB/cicero that i did kind of enjoy until i reached this crossdressing fetish part and…. boy, was my view changed that day. pretty sure there were weirder parts of it that i have forgotten. maybe for the best

as i said in one of my other answers, every time i used to joke about darren guitar/whatever his name is (the DC razum-dar/naryu equivalent) i would get like.. a defensive ask– not too rude yet, just “why do you not like darren guitar”, and then later a “if you read more about him he does have a backstory and development”, that sort of stuff.

i dont think i was too rude in response, but i was kind of sharp, i guess; in a “i know you’re trying to change my viewpoint on this character and opinions are opinions, you can like the characters you like (and besides, most of my posts are purely jokes, im not trying to insult anyone who does like him), but im really set in how i feel about him and i hope to give the implication that nothing you’re sending forth to defend his character is working on me” sort of way

im really bloating this story to the point where the resolution isn’t exciting to hear at all but anyways eventually they send “hot-take: darren guitar has more personality than prince naemon in-game” and i got pissed and told them to fuck off; rightfully so, if you ask me. i said repeatedly i had no problem with this rando liking darrien goddamn guitar and then they came in with that rude shit about a character that’s clearly grown to be very important to me like… please. man. why. if it upsets you unfollowing is fine. or maybe closing the tab? or even asking me, “hey, i know this may sound silly but can you tag your darrien guitar hate? i really like him and his character’s important to me” in which i would oblige!!!

and i know exactly who they are, too, lmao. this is going to sound petty in how i found out but basically, on this site, when someone has blocked you, they will not appear in the notes of a post, no matter if they liked, reblogged, replied, etc. BUT, the number of notes still say the same. so if a post has one note due to someone liking it, and that someone has you blocked, if you were to look in the notes themselves to see who it is, their name will not pop up. does that make sense?

I try not to be negative on here because like. i think there's enough negativity on the internet in general and I personally am always trying to be less negative with my outlook on stuff. but im gonna be negative about final fantasy and i put it under a read more if you dont wanna read that. also its kind of long.

I reblogged a video of a scene from a FF game yesterday and put some negative tags on it because I did not like it but I got rid of it cuz I don't wanna be all down on someone else's post, but mannnn I do not like final fantasy. I don't get it. I don't understand the appeal of them.

Almost all of my knowledge of Final Fantasy as a series comes from people online enjoying the silly parts of the series (Tidus laugh, chocobos, cloud crossdressing and having a big sword, me? Gongaga, Jack saying Bullshit, etc) and I get liking levity in your fictions but like. Man. It does not feel like there's any content for me in the series as far as I've seen.

Older FF games (4 and Tactics in particular, from what I hear) seem like they have some coherency as a plot and have some cool fantasy characters? But even then at best those games are definitely not my taste anyway.

Before I ever watched Star Trek, all I knew was Dammit Jim, Tribbles, Riker sits on things by stepping over the back of the chair, Q exists, Ferengi say Feeeemales, which made me think the show was just silly in the same way the FF memes make it seem silly. But Star Trek has a GOOD fucking show underneath the popular silliness and after I watched it I was left feeling like “wow how are the silly parts the popular parts? this series is so much better than the parts people talk about online”

And FF has not ever given me that feeling. When I go and try to play a FF game I’m left like “oh I don’t like this at all. people don’t talk like that. why is the dialogue so awkward and stilted and silly but taking itself so seriously. why does the armor look like that. why is the Scope so huge.” etc. It just doesn’t feel put together at all.

I know not everyone cares about that and my wants aren’t everyone’s wants and opinions exist, but like. goddamn i don’t get the appeal whatsoever. any time I think about any aspect of most FF settings I’ve heard about/played/seen/etc I’m just left with more and more questions that the game doesn’t have answers for or that the game does answer and that answer further repels me.

uhh yeah i dont have a conclusion im just venting on the internet. i dislike final fantasy and if you are reading this post and you do happen to like final fantasy, i don’t think YOU are bad or anything I just really really don’t like FF and I don’t know how I see so much of it while trying to not see any of it. its so pervasive!

how long is this answer gonna be oh w0rm.. but here we go this is abt someone who ive never talked about but do talk 2 p often and theyre the other online person i am most comfortable with talking 2!!!!! 

theyre great tbh and rly good @ art and i know theyve gone through so many shit things in their life but im so glad theyre still hanging on even if their sleep schedule is totally wack still love u tho lmao at least theyre getting more than enough sleep!! theyre cute when they see sanha and it makes me soft seeing them go soft bc theyre never that warm??? when it comes 2 other ppl (kihyun crying) and im just so glad i managed to help them get (further) into astro!! being able to talk to somebody about astro has helped me so much and then i became friends with jen but im still so thankful to have a friend like [redacted] and im happy we’re friends!!!!!!!! i love them so much and i hope their days are filled with happiness even if it doesnt last for long i hope they have at least (1) happy time each day bc they deserve the BEST!!!!!!!!!!! 

even when i was still a young myday they helped me by providing links and everything just telling me where everything was and i was so :_) bc!!! they !! a bigger account was helping me someone who didnt even have 20 followers at that time and without them i wouldve never found anything tbh!!! even now when im the one whos been into astro longer, they still manage to find things so much faster than me and imlike?????? wow thats amaizng???? theyre amazing and i appreciate their presence on my tl/dash and in my dms so much thats one of the reasons why i thought they were older bc of how mature and just?? the older vibe they gave off was strong with they way they help people and whenever they comment on my tweets or someone else’s tweets im like !!!!!!!!! you’re doing amazing sweetie
