not people calling deadpool and wolverine queerbait im begging yall to learn what queerbaiting is. like why is it that straight characters can have romantic subtext and thats all well and good but the minute gay characters have romantic subtext everyone gets out their pitchforks and starts screaming about queerbait. queercoding and queerbaiting are not the same people! i feel the fact that a song about going down on someone plays while the two protagonists hold hands to save the world should be evidence enough that the gayness was at least a little bit intentional. if you want to be mad about the movie not being gay enough thats fine but i keep seeing people praise venom as gay rep when it also doesn't explicitly state the two characters gayness or romantic interest (i love venom btw don't come for me). just can we stop the arguing and enjoy a fun movie please

what really gets me is that i WAS a huge harry potter fan back in the day. my best friend mailed me a hogwarts letter on my 11th birthday. I've read every single book. I've watched all the movies. it's been a full ten years since dragon age inquisition came out and i'm still not over the fact that you, as the player, can just give vivienne the wrong heart for her potion. she is the only companion who you can spite like this during their personal quest. not only does it involve you lying directly to her for seemingly no reason or gain whatsoever, but you still have to go out and kill a regular wyvern just to lie to her about it. like. wh.

seeing a lot of talk of the season 5 finale, which is fun, i get that it was controversial (honestly the fact it was really risky is kind of one of the things i like about it lol) and wanting to add my two cents but can't think of much i haven't already said before

but something i do want to emphasize is that season 5 ending on Marinette telling the biggest, boldest faced lie she's ever told (that goes far beyond "protecting her identity") to kick off the Lila arc is by far the coolest thing they could've done imo, because I was not at all excited for the Lila arc before but now I'm totally invested. Now Lila isn't the Evil Liar to be taken down by Good Marinette. Marinette is the liar to be taken down by the very liar that she took down. It's not a story of "defeat that freakishly evil girl" anymore, but instead a story of "Marinette's own actions and decisions coming back to bite her". And the lie itself (WHICH LILA KNOWS IS A LIE!!) only exists because, and is most impactful towards, her relationship with Adrien, which is the core of the series!! I CARE about their relationship, and that's the stakes!!!

I just cannot get over how cool that is, and how much I didn't expect it. I know we all were expecting a big fight with Ladybug and Chat Noir just defeating Gabriel and then watching Chat Noir cry or whatever in the few remaining minutes of screen-time and then it's all over and done with, but that's a series finale. This was a season finale. And they did something really unique and unexpected with it, while making sure it's a juicy season-finale conflict that leaves me actually excited about season 6

also, a side note— I think the framing of the finale made this confusing so I totally get why discussions about it are kind of all over the place, but... 90% of the post-wish stuff we saw had nothing to do with Gabriel at all. It was all Mayor Bustier, who was already running for mayor and wanted to enact green laws and projected to win (she was up against D'Argencourt, the character whose schtick is that nobody ever votes for him in elections). I don't think Gabriel's wish included "Please, Gimmi, I want my son's school teacher to win the mayoral election this year" lol. So a lot of talk of "why is Gabriel's World presented in such a positive light?" is kind of weird to me. That's not Gabriel's World. That's Caline Bustier's. All we know so far about Gabriel's World is that Nathalie is in it and he is not. And frankly, the fact everyone is so happy and cheerful and living it up after his death is more a roast than anything

( also, just a reminder that the presentation of Gabriel's statue— the only scene discussing Gabriel in a positive light by someone In The Know— was done by Tomoe Tsurugi, a series antagonist, vowing to continue his work, with a song in minor key playing in the background. i feel like the question of "was this meant to be unsettling or triumphant?" is pretty obvious. just wanted to remind everyone. also by definition characters cannot celebrate gabriel as a "hero" without in the same breath celebrating monarch's, aka gabriel's, death. yknow? )

No Bruce is not "fine with being friends with people who kill all the time"

1) if you're referring to Diana she doesn't kill people all the time, she only kills in very extreme circumstances when she's forced to bc theres no other option, and it's only happened like three times total

2) Bruce very much is not fine with it when Diana kills. When she killed Maxwell Lord, it was written for the sole purpose of breaking up the Trinity for Infinity Crisis drama reasons, and Diana killing was chosen because Bruce (and Clark) would not be fine with it. At all

3) if you're referring to Ghostmaker, Bruce also isn't fine with him killing people and tries to stop him

4) if you're referring to Oliver Queen, they're not friends

5) if you're referring to Talia, Bruce also isn't fine with her killing people, and continuously has conflict with her about it

6) if you're referring to Helena, they're not friends and also Bruce treats her almost worse than Jason

7) if you're referring to Jim Gordon, Bruce still isn't fine with it, but also the copganda around him kinda makes consistent moral characterization a lost cause for Bruce in relation to him

8) I know you're not referring to Clark because nobody making this argument actually reads super comics let alone 80s super comics so none of you know about the Zod storyline, but Bruce didn't even know about that therefore its irrelevant

9) in case you might be referring to Harvey, Bruce also hasn't been friends with him since he became Two Face

10) I can't think of any others right now but whoever you're thinking of I can guarantee that if Bruce knows they killed someone and thinks its possible to influence them, there has been a storyline about him disapproving of them killing

11) if you're referring to Harley Quinn for some reason, they also are not friends

I think about this often and never write about it but I think Ghost would be a drug user. Not like he smokes weed, but like Price tells him if/when the higher ups have decided to run drug tests so he has time to get clean enough to pass(or find someone willing to piss in a cup for him).

And it's more of a "forced to go on leave may as well make the worst of it" thing, he knows better than to try and dose himself when he's in the field, but that also means leave is sparse and spent on base where Price can make sure his most loyal dog doesn't accidentally euthanize himself. Ghost would never call himself an addict, he's not like his father, or Tommy, he can control himself, he isn't going to fall into the same habits, he doesn't need it...

But it certainly makes everything feel a whole lot easier.

a moment that’s really stuck with me from the trial is during lestat’s apology when claudia reminds louis of his possible insincerity and the futility of his apology. what’s most significant is that in the face of danger claudia is the one out of the two who takes the lead. claudia always as louis’s protector. nursing him after being brutally beaten by lestat. conceiving the plan to murder their maker. leading them through war-torn europe. claudia’s fearlessness and determination is what urges louis to continue moving forward. to leave america behind and all the pain it signifies and find others like them. to start a new life and finally (try to) escape lestat’s grasp. claudia was louis’s spark in the dark but that spark was his life-force. his willingness to continue living was tied to her existence. his anchor amidst the chaos. if claudia was not by his side then what was the point in hiding from the sun anymore. it takes a failing relationship, two interviews and suppressing his grief for over half a century for louis to be able to speak of how much he loved and adored claudia. and learning to live without her will surely take more than a few thousand sunsets.

As frustrating as reading x men fics as a big magneto fan can be, I've started getting pretty good at picking up on tells that he's going to be writen poorly (or not to my taste) so I don't waste much time on stuff I don't like

Like the words "metallokinetic" or "metal-bender" are an instant drop for me

Random German words is a big red flag too but I'm willing to over look it if something is pulling me in strong enough (rare)

It's hard to point out but a lot of fics take on a subtley dehumanizing tone when writing him that's pretty easy to pick up on quickly

Any fics but especially cherik ones that take on the "telepaths are the least accepted mutants" angle also have a high chance of being very unempathetic towards Erik

I also don't fuck with any fics that are even slightly unkind to Magda or in any way minimize Erik's feelings for her or their relationship

re whitewashing in tlt spaces. i feel like id be way more chill with seeing lighter toned harrow, bc at the end of the day she IS lightskinned you can just look at the cover of nona and that whole "skin the color egg carton" this is like. fanciful and kind of strange if your mind goes to the white or grey ones but like

absolutely within the range of human skin tones. its tan but its not like a dark chocolate brown. gives you enough to work with. but on top of just making harrow incredibly pale a lot of the time she is just. drawn like a white girl. just zero indication that she isnt entirely pakeha let alone maori if you didnt already have that info in your back pocket.

and so much shit contributes to this its tazs descriptions in the book just focusing on how pointy and scrawny she is, its fanartists not really getting the nuances of how to draw poc outside of "white person" and "black person", its the fact that irl maori obviously have a vast array of different ways they can look and some of them can be white passing and that doesnt make them less maori, its that fact coming into conflict where in a book if you have a main character you say is maori but is lightskinned, white passing and has zero connection to maori culture, language, and wasnt even born on earth and its been 10000 years since that particular ethnic group has even existed. what does that mean. how would the text change if she was just pakeha
