#i dont even read the manga jc

Hello, i just wanna ask what do you think of the manhua JC? dont get me wrong but there scenes that i haven't read in the novel that were shown in manhua even briefly. For example, that JC hugging his puppies. While it was outrightly said that he did have dogs that were sent out after WWX came to lotus cove, I don't really think he was that emotionally attached to them considering how fast he changed his mind. Those little panels of things that were probably implied makes a lot JC delulu stans make him more uwu. While i dont think that child JC is that bad, he is a child for one thet throw tantrums. Even teenage JC is redeemable probably since he was not that bad yet, but i just dont get how they justify him being secretly uwu kind etc whatever it is a positive trait because of his innocent? past self. isn't it ironic how WWX said that JC didn't change at all in the 13 years he was dead, implying he is still immature and the same as ever. I also dont get the part where somehow someone who has such personality is becoming likable to many people, changing his character to fit their description. A few others, i dont really remember but im sure ive seen some, who have evidence of their claim that are too weak to support and does not give the whole picture. As someone who likes JC's patheticness, this is so bizarre to me that i dont really want to involve myself in tiktok or twt. sorry for the long rant, have a great day!

To be honest, I don't particularly pay any attention to mdzs manhua aside from simping its WangXian moments, lol. Like, my only basis is the original, mdzs novel, whereas other adaptations are just entertainment. And for entertainment, obviously I will only focus on WangXian.

So far, among the other adaptations, mdzs manhua is the closest to canon. Even then, there are things that were changed due to various factors, such as to shorten the lengthy original content or to add more humor, which is common in comic, manga, or manhua.

I mean, things about softening the characters in the manhua was not only done toward JC as far as I know. We saw how Lan Qiren being pretty much drawn like a comedic relief. Even Su She moments in the Second Siege was also drawn in quite a funny way, that makes us the readers find it hard to really immerse ourselves in the severity of the incident, in fact.

Is that a good or bad thing? That depends. For entertainment, mdzs manhua is really good, both from content and arts. Just don't take them as canon material or meta material, since there has been changes due to various consideration. And when things change, it's not Original anymore🙃

The fact I have Twitter just to use the username to login on other websites, and the fact that I don't own TikTok at all, makes me unqualified to say things about mdzs fandom on Twitter or TikTok, lol. I'm sorry, Anon. Honestly, aside from Tumblr and Lofter, I don't really engage in mdzs fandom on other platform...?

But characters with pet attribute generally spark more interest with fans. Just like how WangXian and rabbits and Lil Apple are. Canonically, kid-JC is indeed fond of dogs (puppies or adult dogs I don't know).

Though, whether this fondness is a long lasting fondness is a question. Because after Wei Wuxian left YMJ he didn't try to own any dog. Some fans take it as JC being loyal to WWX, like, he was waiting for him to come back, etc. But, another fact is that, if he is still fond of dog but didn't want to own it due to WWX, then why wasn't he the one who give the dog to Jin Ling? Isn't he supposed to be the best Uncle for Jin Ling?

My headcanon is that, the adult JC likes dog, but not particularly fond of it like how other Dog lovers are. It's like how most people are enthusiastic when they saw stray cats, but that's it, most people won't dedicate themselves to adopt them, gave them foods, or help them. Most people just "like" But not fond enough to dedicate their life for pets. And so is Jiang Cheng toward Dogs.

hey, as a mature person of the right age (not a minor), how do you feel about teenagers reading books like mdzs? i was surprised to know an acquaintance who have watched cql then read the novel and manhua. She was the one who introduced me into cql, which i didn't watch since i dont like watching in general, i prefer reading. i have recently found the manhua then read the novel and briefly watched the show, i was surprised since she recc it to me a few years ago. thats when i realized that she must have been 12?? 13? if i guess right at that time. she even asked me if i read about Incense Burner, which i did skim since I'm still not comfy enough to read it, it feels like violating the couple i adore so much by witnessing such affectionate acts. I was just surprised, it didn't really sinked into me that people that young read sensitive topics as their introduction to various issues reflected in books. A lot of people, who are certainly old enough to read such material is still not mature and somehow manage to contract the whole story to their dialogue. She does know I like JC, he is so pathetic ( affectionate and condescending). And i really aint stopping her, i just wanna vent so pls feel free to ignore.

oof, so my initial reaction is definitely that... 12/13 is way too young to be reading mdzs :/ not even just because of the explicit sex scenes, but the story overall is not something i'd reccomend to to someone who is essentially a child

however, as someone who was also a 13 year old who interacted with content that was not suitable for me (in my case, horror and staged/drawn gore) i can understand the appeal. that's an age where pretty much everyone starts wanting to get away from the more kiddies stuff and interacting with more adult content, which they're likely not prepared to see. there's a whole generation of internet kids born in the 90s who can tell all sort of stories about that

so while it is not something she should have been reading, saying "hey you shouldn't read that" is likely to have the opposite effect you know? teenages will lie and search for content they're not supposed to see whether we like it or not, so... i guess, the only thing to do is talk to her and be like "hey, i know these stories sound really good and interesting. they are! but maybe it's best to wait a few more years, just so you can truly appreciate its content beyond the romance, since most of it might be too boring for you just now"

and... well, it wouldn't be a lie. i can't imagine a 13 year old having a good time reading through nie mingjue's empathy arc, or the guanyin temple. for as good as wangxian's romantic scenes are, they are also a very small part of the novel, and i think it's a disservice to the story if you skim the more political aspects and side-stories just to read the romance. it's not a good habit to develop when interacting with media yk? and best to not start doing so when young

you can try introducing her to more age-appropriate compelling material too. for as much as we clown on YA books, they ARE an important step for teenagers to start interacting with longer and more complex stories, even if they're not "good". you can start by reccomending the really good ones like The Hunger Games, and then asking what sort of thing interests her. there are also lots of asian media like mangas and webtoons to choose from too, and are more fitting for her age!

that age is... complicated, and you truly can't control what sort of thing they'll interact with. sometimes, they will end up seeing something upsetting and having to understand by themselves where their boundaries are. as long as they're not interacting with material that's too heavy and MOST IMPORTANTLY not being close to adults online who are aware she's a minor and still talk to her about these materials, it should be fine. 13 year olds will be 13 year olds, ya know

I.. I’m kind of at a loss for words. I’m. That’s it, huh? It’s really over. It doesn’t FEEL over. There’s so much unfinished business. Well, the only way to really neatly wrap everything up as neatly as S1 did would have been to get ALL THE WAY through the Garou arc, which obviously wasn’t going to happen, but this is not a great spot to leave off if we’re going to endure another few years hiatus. My hope is that, with biweekley manga updates, we should wrap up the Monster Association/Garou stuff (assuming it doesn’t diverge from the web comic too much) some time next year, and I’m HOPING that s3 is already being planned accordingly along side manga publications. So MAYBE it will at least be announced around that time 2020. That’s my wishful thinking at least. I don’t think I can survive 3 years. anyway

You could really tell JC Staff poured their hearts and souls into these last 2 episodes. Absolutely gorgeous, paced well, so completely satisfying and making every second of s2 worth while. For me, at least. I’ve already seen people still complaining and I’m just sorry they didn’t have as much fun as I did. 

Seriously, thank each and every one of you guys. This has been a wild ride, I’ve barely had this blog a few weeks before season 2 started airing (and honestly just got into opm maybe a month before that?), so I owe a lot of the success on the blog to the anime I bet. This was the first series I’ve never tried live bogging, and I honestly can’t believe that they were as popular as they were? Especially since I never have any idea what I’m doing but yall listen to me ramble anyway?? Yall are crazy thank you so so so much. Now my tuesdays are gonna feel really empty… next week is gonna be weird as hell. Though I’m gonna get mad nostalgic good vibes rewatching this season in the future in no small part from sharing my experience with everyone who's stuck around. ive only watched up to the second episode, and i am having Such Difficulties convincing myself to keep watching. i know my rxns to ep 1 were overall pretty positive and I stand by it but the more i watch the more the Cringe/Hypercritique starts take over. 

Turns out, the art style had a bigger impact than i thought on the length of which i enjoy shows. personally, i just really like when anime/shows have a happy marriage between writing and artwork. and when show directors know how to interpret writing, how to set up a scene (the angle, the music, the pacing), and then communicate with artists who have the skills to bring that idea to life using the medium they’re given -- that’s when writing becomes storytelling. OPM’s writing is still fantastic since they’re going off ONE (whereas GoT has the opposite problem where the production value is 4K and the writing is early 2000s livejournal/fanfiction lol god why is everyone dropping the ball in 2019??)

As for the art, since opm switched to jc staff and shingo natsume & co. left for other projects ( ;;_____;; im emo ), its inevitable we would see a drop in animation quality and i find myself constantly getting distracted by things i never used to get concerned about in the first season (bc of the high bar of expectations set by s1 artists/directors, like theres just no way jc staff would match up it to all of that and i feel bad for them, they’re trying their best but that doesn’t mean theyre immune to critique on the artistic liberties that they’ve taken that i feel as a viewer, may not have been the best choice?) 

the shading: no, just, unnecessary and distracting and why is it the center of saitamas face, im by far no expert in lighting but a bish can tell something doesnt look right??? 

the shading pt II: color choices. just gonna say i was not expecting sai’s ‘hair shirt’ in ep 1 to be bright-ass neon green, it was a little jarring at first and i miss him in red ;-; i get hes supposed to have poor fashion choices but i dont see him as the type to pick something that stands out so much in the crowd, like he likes to be left alone. NEON doesnt really relay ‘hi dont mind me im just barely existing here lol’ 

the shading pt III: genos arms/neck. okaY so the bby looks good in screenshots. like he’s shiny and nice to look at when nothings moving. bUT this is animation?? movement of objections is different from still life manga so making every single scene almost 99% like murata’s panels translates a little awkwardly to the screen (like staff is lucky bc murata’s a force of nature with his panels playing out like a movie for ref). but when genos moves, the arms are just distracting bc everything around him is drawn simply without shadows so they stand out by themselves and i (visually) forget about the rest of him haha. 

the pacing: it feels scripted, person A says this so we’ll show person A in the shot, then person B is saying something so we have to cut to person B, etc etc like keeping pretty steady to manga lines to the point where i was starting to get bored bc i knew what was coming. it was really intervaled? like someone had to be saying something at a certain effect and i think s1 had more dramatic pauses (lol) but thats how you can place emphasis on scenes to have an emotional impact if the character doesnt say anything and just let the soundtrack do some talking and the cadence of the script will change too (im 10000% talking about the sunset scene in s1 god bless. like it was slow, there was MOOD there wasn’t any rush and really gave the viewer time to think about the relationship between the two characters and what that moment meant to each of them) i feel like there were several scenes that could have been more like in the scene where sai protected fubuki, could have been a little more dramatically emphasized (aka just a pause) so the viewer could get a chance to understand that he purprosefully shielded her or when genos says that strong heroes are drawn to saitama--bUT nope its the same pace, like c l o c k w o r k just like my t eARS--

the fight scenes: how do i even start. the one scene that got me INTO opm (like watching the anime, reading the manga, drawing fanart, writing fanfic, reading fanfics etc) was kickstarted by the fight scene between genos and saitama in s1 that was circulating on tumblr a while back. i thought the characters were interesting and the fight was badass and it just looked SO COOL. (also the forehead flick at the end just kinda sealed my fate). going from that to s2 fight scenes where its mostly cut scenes and freeze scenes?? where theres a cut out behind the characters back?? during a fight scene????? this isn’t a calling card or an anime opening??? i dont understand. when they dont do cut scenes, its interesting but my initial impression is just underwhelmed. i can find good parts but it feels like i have to replay the scene to notice it? theres also an overwhelming amount of graphics/cgi manipulation that overpowers the actual art sometimes. its lacking some of the fluidity that comes from hand drawn fight scenes from first season. OTL

the sound directing: so i thought that the mood just felt off for certain scenes and the sound didn’t seem to support the scene as well (unless it was like the character’s theme or smtg) and i looked it up and the sound director was also replaced (Yoshikazu Iwanami replacing Shoji Hata). i have no idea if the sound director is also in charge of character lines but there were parts were fubuki was monologuing and i had no idea she was inner monologuing, i thought she was talking out loud and that just took extra effort on my part to re-orient myself (im nitpitcking i know but its just how i watch shows lol) 

there are still some parts i like about the animation:

all of this just made me realize how insanely lucky we were to have an amazing s1 and just have it exist and how i really could not care less if they had just waited forever to make s2 as long as we had the same crew come back. but anime is still a business and the quicker they dish out merch/seasons, the more money they can bring in. which they do in the short run but they would bring in more if they spent a little more on quality in the long run and it becomes one of those classics that ppl will rewatch and keep recommending to ppl who want to get into anime and oh my god we’re never gonna have that now, are we. if im gonna rec it to a friend its gonna be ‘read the manga!’ or ‘just watch s1!’ uGH. its just an unfortunate situation, its not one person’s fault either, so many factors go into what made opm s1 so spectacular and seeing s2 just made me appreciate s1 more. i guess im happy to have a s2 regardless? 

i’ll still watch to support (and bc i like suiryuu and wanna see sai in a karate gi and wig lol). maybe i just have to get used to the new style.

1) HELLO RABBIT ANON hmmmmmmm I always think you should find time to do personal work even if you’re a beginner and might find it difficult to execute your ideas 100%! Maybe take some time after doing studies to freely doodle any ideas/ characters you might have! Just to get them down, so don’t worry too much about them being technically perfect. I think doing that also helps to figure out what you might want ot work on more i.e. anatomy/ expressions/ faces etc. Don’t be afraid of drawing any ideas u might have!! Even if you’re not happy wiht the result, you can always redraw it again later when you feel more comfortable with your skill level. I think drawing from your imagination is very important!! No matter what level you’re at!! (if you feel you can’t draw people yet, just practice drawing what you remember from your imagination) ALSO you can try combining studies and personal work i.e. recreate a reference pose you like with an OC/ character you like! HAVE FUN WITH IT!! Don’t feel like you have to study EVERYTHING and have perfect anatomy before you can start creating any sort of personal work

It really is a matter of practicing and getting used to a tablet!! It’s natural that your lines are shaky at first bc it’s definitely very different to drawing on paper. YOU can try practicing drawing lots of arcs/ lines/ circles on your tablet as warm ups, and try using your whole arm to draw instead of just your wrist! KEEP AT IT ANON I BELIEVE YOUR LINES WILL GET BETTER AS YOU KEEP DRAWING MORE!!

looking back on the things i wrote here a few months ago i feel like my mental voice has soundlessly changed and will continue to change without me even noticing. and that makes me kind of depressed but everything kind of fucking does now so there’s no difference! 

a few days ago i was reading this manga (the private report on my lesbian experience with loneliness) and god does it hit the nail on several of my mental experiences (regarding ‘gender’, purpose in life w/ respect to parental expectations and the craving for affection) but it’s also reassuring in that things DID get (sort of) better for the protagonist. although id say being the author of that specific manga while still living the way she is would not constitute ‘good’ in my definition of the term, but still. 

i think the way im living right now, and have been living in the past, is as somebody looking forward to an indefinite point in the future in which i’ll be able to attain true “satisfaction” and fulfillment with my life and the way i’ll be living it - but the problem is, i don’t even know how that’s going to look like! and if i don’t know my endpoint, how can i carry out the procedure? i dont think fate would be as kind as to simply let me drift down to that single point of happiness that so many people better or worse than me have not been able to reach. 

anyways this weird angst fest is in part because i’m really nervous for the upcoming cca elections (touch wood), and kind of stressed from rushing several group projects. it’s t2w10 so im hoping that i can sort of recover from the weird emotional rollercoasters my brains been putting me through this holiday and get ready for blocks in july (LOL) 

i think ive been looking forward to JC in part as a new physical location where I can meet someone that really understands me within my new class. i thought that the guys sort of developed under a different setting and by CHANCE somebody might click with me perfectly, but turns out 1. i have no idea how to talk to them and 2. theyre all numbskulls so. theres that. now its time to look forward to university and be duly disappointed, but if i still don’t meet such people in university i think id fucking kms. on that note, i think im not so much afraid of change as afraid of not being able to make the change something that lives up to my existing standards

cami’s super shittery end of season anime reviews for winter 2017!! spoiler: it was an average season but there were standouts and I probably rated some shows too highly (lol this is every season)

maid dragon: starting off with the freshest., this one earned a very solid 9. didn’t feel the last episode as much as others did but I respect it. this has a lot of really, fantastically strong art and a lot of anime original content. very good

onihei: petered out towards the end. if you watch this show, you can skip everything after episode 7 which coincidentally was its score. it was cool but it could gow as low as a 6 just based on how damn repetitive it got. recommended if you like uh... historical action? kind of?

urara: loved it, very good show. lots of charm and some interesting storytelling, about half a dozen good hooks for season 2 (jc staff when pls). actual divination is Good. gay girls are Even Better, and things got REAL weird when we hit the first advancement exam. 9/10 watch for gays.

demi-chan: (squirms uncomfortably) I forgot how much of this show was going to be wrapped up in the warped relationship between teacher and students. REALLY didn’t rub me the right way. it came off as like “lol oh well I guess theyre gonna keep doing it!) a very low 7/10 due to raw quality. watch for fluff, dullahan worst character

gabdrop: 5/10. fantastic show to trim your pubes to.

eldlive: 6/10. eh. if they wanted to sell this show, we absolutely needed heavy focus on Dr. Strangelove and they did not deliver on it (dont tease my cock with the good stuff and expect me to like it!! this goes double for the body horror shit that happened in like episode 7) ending was pretty cool, all told

ACCA: one of the oddest things that’s been out lately. really enjoyed it, I gave it a 9 but I don’t know if that’s right? political intrigue and down-tempo storytelling are always welcome in the Fast Paced World Of Tomorrow

kemono friends: this is the big one folks. this is a 9/10 somehow. it’s sincere, silly, lighthearted but respectful to the viewer. as the animators learned how to ... uh... animate, at all, it got pretty fuckin neato. they’re releasing singleton episodes and there’s a manga which is also of good quality. get into this show if you want to feel a lightness beneath your wings, and a goodness in your heart.

utena rewatch: still holds up pretty well. gave it a 9. grungy looking traditional art backgrounds are fucking legit. overall plot was weirder and more off-color than remembered, and there’s still a lot of depth. every nanami episode is a train wreck

ranpo kitan rewatch: 9/10 oooh it hurts so good. please watch this and try to figure out the solution to the big mystery before episode 9ish, thats your challenge. this show holds up and it’s still really good at giving you just barely enough information to solve everything - you just have to be a very active listener and viewer

steins;gate: 10/10 I AM MADDU SCIENTISTO SO-COOL I shouldnt have to explain this score HACKING TO THE GATE DAKARA IMA ICHIBYOU GOTO NI SEKAISEN NO KOETE KIMI SONO EGAO MAMORITAI NO SA

uchouten kazoku: I had never heard of this show at all before tay told me to watch it and I had zero interest at first but dude, it’s 10/10 material. this show does pure slice of life better than most anything else, has amazing concepting/art/music and a gripping plot. watch for idiot tanukis

gatchaman crowds: 9/10 season 1 was fucking great. do NOT WATCH THE CRUNCHYROLL SUBS. they make hajime into a walking abortion and I loathed her the first time I tried to watch this. in fact she’s got a surprising amount of insight. both mid-season eps were cool and season 2 was a fantastically solid 10 that showed great restraint in building up its point. and it was painfully true. dont elect a meme. we should have listened....

everything about girls und panzer: everything is just perfect. apparently I only go back and watch good shows now. god damn this one was solid, can we make senshadou a real sport and have world peace now? I want to drive a tank and get fucked up

canaan: just kidding there are some Not Great shows I watched. shockingly dissapointing at 7/10. you know how a lot of shows don’t do anything with their premise? canaan tries to do way too much. that being said it accomplishes some astounding moments (white noise fight at the flower garden) and has some great score work. also canaan is really hot so that’s neat. type:moon definitely has better offerings than this

both seasons of kagewani: 6/10 at least they did something cool with the design work and aesthetics? if you need a quick filler show to cleanse the palette, this one’s neat. very visually unique but ultimately not that much to back it up.

monster: 9/10 though I can respect that it was not the most tightly plotted show for its length. it felt a bit at times like someone would Just Remember Something Important At The Right Time and that was the impetus for the plot? it’s still a really important show to watch if you’re an anime historian, or if you want to see dr house following a serial killer. stayed really down to earth for how fucked up the subject matter got

candy boy: do you like incest lesbians? I do. 9/10

gunslinger girl: kind of boring and weirdly off-color in atitude, I ended up giving it a 7. no interest in watching season 2. I don’t really know what the message was here.

also doing a symphogear rewatch and christ this show is so hype... season 1 looks a lot better than I recalled and it still sounds lovely. I also have been reading kaiji and this author absolutely needs to write a human psychology dissertation, it would be culturally important

So this was by far my favorite episode of the season to date. I know a lot of people were worried about the animation quality and just overall quality JC staff has been putting out thus far, but I think it’s clear why the rest of the season has been average majority of the time. They spent. All the time. And budget. on. This. Episode. Every Character looked beautiful. The animation was fluid, not too blurry, not too flashy, well paced, and with high quality art. I just. Oh my god. I’m in denial right now that the season only has One episode left. Just 24 minutes more. Until WHO KNOWS when. Whos gonna cry with me next week? pls im gonna need like 100 shoulders my weak heart. ahh shitttttt

Jeez, the mildly ominous music really isn’t subtle about making Suiryu out to be antagonistic, yeah?
