I would consider Gen Z gentle or retarded giants. Imagine the power they wield and how much more will come after the inverse birth pyramid will die out. Most of us grow up in one of the most peaceful times in the history of mankind. The schools aren't adapted to handle that. (So a silent reform is taking place.) Another rise of the politicalized classroom, the propagating teacher, war mongrels and profiteers. But my view on this matter could be influenced by the recent watching of 1864. So I mostly agree with Antoine.

As Einstein puts it: Education is what isn't forgotten. My take on schools is: You get everything needed for most jobs and can forget the things you don't at the door. But I'm frustrated about how much time everything takes/needs and try my best to simply accelerate things. We require a better way to introduce change into the "schooling pipeline"... To give citizens more options on how to engage schooling would bring us more and faster results than to ruin one generation after another. The beloved term diversity would apply here. The only system I trust, is the one where I can make up my own options. (Server rules; If god forbids, it would not be possible)

(It's always impossible until someone does it) I believe, most generations look fearful into the future. Until some pioneers (influencers) come back and explain, most won't know what to do. They sit and sulk, grinding in the machine. New ideas arrive rapidly but only apply slowly, waiting for the old ones to die out. So why even bother? Do you see how you become the villain?

i watched the ep twice bc i didnt take notes the first time BUT. hsmtmts 2.04 thoughts under the cut

gina first. my favorite part of the episode was when she admitted that she feels out of place living in someone else’s house and that she wanted a bigger part in the play. i was SO worried they were gonna just let her happily sideline herself in a “yay she learned her lesson about not being the center of attention” kind of way bc i would not be able to handle that two seasons in a row. let her be angry!!! she has a lot to be upset about

the gina/carlos conflict was awful bc theyre making carlos unreasonably annoying this season. last season he was nice, he was enthusiastic, not competitive and just rooting for other people. idk why they needed to flip him so drastically to being spoiled, rich, selfish, pushy, and bitchy. and on top of that i have not been vibing with the pieces of dialogue theyve been giving him this season just to score woke points. its so unbearably obvious that even though hes a brown gay character, he was written by a white gay person who thought, on some level, that he was giving the gen z kids the #hashtag representation they wanted. his delivery of every line that screams “remember, im mexican” is so awkward, it doesnt land well, and im begging them to stop. they want so badly to commodify his character and parade him around as a “look how diverse our show is!” thing and im so so sick of it bc you can tell, with all the surface-level pieces of dialogue, that they dont actually care at all

(”look around, theres not a lot of me at this school” we GET it, this show wants to be glee so bad)

im honestly starting to slowly ship rina less and less. in season one i loved seeing someone make gina happy, especially since she had no friends before opening up to ricky. but now its just a whole mess and i wish she would love herself a lil more to realize that its not worth all this stress. he made a choice and no amount of conflicted moments of eye contact is going to fully take that back. im not necessarily against love triangle plots, but i HATE the whole “women wait around hopefully while male character, whose decisions have already hurt multiple people, makes up his mind” bullshit

that being said, gina handled the situation like a CHAMP, im dying over how quickly she was able to mask her pain and make the joke about the twix bar. im love her

we were absolutely ROBBED of an ej/big red performance this episode!!! i am at my LIMIT we better get gaston next week or i will riot

on the ej train, him not getting into duke was extremely predictable. we all kinda saw that coming and knew that would be his main point of growth this season. im glad they didnt wait super long to do it. now please @ writers i am BEGGING you to give my man more screen time than one scene per episode

its very odd that they keep making mr mazzara have emotionally tough conversations with the students. i will do a parallel gifset of those once the season ends. i liked his convo with ej for the most part, but he really didnt have to beat him over the head with the “youre an emotionless robot” thing again. its clear ej is gonna throw himself into av club or whatever (even though at the end of last season that was supposed to be big red?) and discover that he has a lot going for him. because he does, he literally has everything going for him, thats why they had to make his “problem” not knowing himself. bisexual ej caswell ftw

i love the parallels between ej and nini this episode? i think since the beginning ive felt that there was a lot about them under the surface that was similar. it was interesting seeing ej tell nini about duke first, instead of the obvious choice of ashlyn. i wouldve loved to see how that scene wouldve gone with ricky, gina, carlos, or big red though bc each reaction and attempt at comforting him wouldve been so different. i didnt love that nini had to be pulled away from the conversation, but im glad they can still talk to each other after everything that went down. and i love the juxtaposition of ej’s convo with mazzara directly following nini’s convo with miss jenn bc theyre essentially the same.

speaking of, i loved miss jenn in this episode. her stories are always so funny, but i loved seeing her care so much for nini and guide her, like a teacher. i loved how she pointed out that everyone who loves nini just wants her to be happy

im glad nini is leaving yac bc there was no good way to keep that up honestly. but im pretty annoyed that they were so obvious about it? like, they immediately made it the worst place in the world without exploring it very much. the place is super unrealistic, ive never been to drama school but im sure it wouldnt be like that. no creative arts place for KIDS would be so impossibly limiting. plus the weird bluish coloring in comparison to the nice warm tones of the rest of the show was, again, a dead giveaway. why send her to the school at all if it wasnt even gonna matter?

even though im glad nini left yac, im NOT looking forward to the way miss jenn is about to bend over backwards to put her in the play somehow. she plays obvious favorites and im so annoyed

(sidenote: nini just? decided to leave yac without consulting her parents??? ummm)

granted is a very good song, one of my faves so far

ricky deciding to tell nini he wants her to stay was stupid. what did he think that would accomplish? who in their right mind would drop out of a good school for you?

i loved when nini said yac was missing something, and miss jenn said “ricky” and nini said “you.” that was so so sweet and cute

i think the kourtney/howie thing is gonna grow on me. i hate amatonormativity so im not a big fan of them introducing a whole ass character exclusively so kourtney can have a love interest, but i loved the gesture he made of bringing her the pizzas and her flashcards. i feel like kourtneys love language is acts of service, and she was literally this meme when he did that for her:

i liked seeing ashlyn try to be there emotionally for gina! i want more of them together

overall this episode was okay. not enough songs, and i wish they were spreading out the emotional conversations through the season instead of packing them all into literally one episode, but what we did get was pretty good.

after watching the preview i see that next weeks episode is gonna be about carlos’s party, and i love party episodes. BUT i hope that after that ep we finally get an advancement on the north high stuff! i dont give too many fucks about lily, but i wanna see my son asher angel

Pre-thoughts/expectations: Im very exicted for once. At first I was dreading this epiosde, because, you know, it’s a musical one, and you know how the last one went... (first thoughts on that here). But then they dropped all the Barchie stuff so now I’m PUMPED!

Okay Cole’s singing is better (maybe that’s because he’s singing a low tone now though?) but I still think it’s a weird creative decision to have Jughead sing tbh. It just feels really weird and out of character. I know he’s not actually singing but still. I think the musical episodes would work better (or less bad) if he was the only one that didn’t sing.

Doing something like this, giving teenagers today a voice and trying to express how they feel is something I really wanna see more but it doesn’t work in Riverdale. Riverdale is so far removed from reality that doing these kind of realistic and relevant things and topics can’t work. If you’re gonna give generation Z a voice then you need to do it with people who behave like real gen Z teenagers, and the characters in Riverdale don’t. I don’t mean that all media have to be realistic, but if you’re gonna do something like this it kinda does. 

The musical numbers aren’t as awkward as in Heathers. That just hurt to watch, but this is totally fine.

Lowkey curious but what do you think about the characterisations of the various Boleyns on the West End? (ie Millie, Vicki, Collette etc) From when I’ve seen them, they seem to have the most variance imho which makes for really interesting viewing 👍??

Anon, I’m so glad you asked...

A massive thank you to the sixcord, @ichlugebulletsandcornnuts and @sixcastappreciation for giving me a hand with a few of the Boleyn portrayals, as I obviously don’t know EVERY version of the queen. Also please do try and keep in mind that this isn’t me talking about 10 different characters but 10 different versions of the same character, so there’s going to be absolutely loads of overlap between most of the portrayals and I will just have more to say about certain versions.

(Also I physically can’t do that read more thing on mobile I’m sorry okay? Don’t anon message me I know this is annoying)

Overall:

All of the Boleyns are incredibly competitive characters, wanting to win the competition and being willing to do or say anything to achieve that. I’d also argue that every Boleyn is sort of a horrible person (although an absolutely fantastic character!) although to varying extents. All versions of Boleyn are also confident, charming, loud and cheeky. Again, this is all to varying extents.

Every Boleyn from Millie onwards is chaotic, BUT I think that has more to do with the changes in script and the directing rather than everyone else “copying” Millie.

There’s also an easy argument to be made that at least some versions (if not all versions) suffer from some form PTSD due to the events that took place. However that would make this post twice as long and you’ve already waited long enough for it.

Ashleigh Boleyn:

Looking back on anything from the student run of Six is always really hard because it suffered from a lot of “first instalment weirdness”, although I’d argue that the differences in Boleyn came more down to the direction that Ashleigh decided to take her in rather than the script, since Dont Lose Ur Head was relatively unchanged unlike some songs (looking at Haus of Holbein with that weird tempo and No Way/Heart of Stone’s completely different lyrics).

Despite it being the first instalment of Boleyn, I don’t think Ashleigh ever comes off as a “beta” version of Boleyn. In fact, Ashleigh has one of the most distinct Boleyns. Her accent is kind of upper class (like most of the queens from this run) so it gives off a more refined version of Boleyn that some of the others. You could also argue that she’s maybe the more calculated and cunning, and I do think that this Boleyn maybe thinks things out a little more than others, but I wouldn’t say that she’s defined by being calculated and cunning. I’d actually argue that this Boleyn feels very entitled to her position as the queen who had the worst time, and again maybe that’s the accent influencing my judgment, but it definitely makes for an interesting character. I’d also argue that this is maybe one of the most confident and self assured Boleyn. Again, accent/singing definitely influencing all of this, but this Boleyn doesn’t feel like she has anything to prove to anyone and doesn’t have to explain anything she does, leading to her sounding more offended (or even inconvenienced) than scared or shocked during the end of DLUH.

Also Six please bring back the violin in Dont Lose Ur Head. It came out of nowhere, it was hilarious and really suited the character.

Christina Boleyn (live):

Christina Boleyn is probably the most interesting to me because I genuinely believe that she didn’t mean to hurt anyone. This version Boleyn isn’t mean for the sake of being mean or hurting people before they can hurt her (which will both be discussed later down the line) , this Boleyn is mean because she completely lacks a brain to mouth filter. She still is incredibly rude and dismissive and kind of an asshole, but at least she’s not being deliberately spiteful which is a massive step up from other portrayals.

The thing is about Christina Boleyn (and Ashleigh Boleyn now that I think about it) is that Boleyn wasn’t defined by being the “chaotic” queen yet. In fact, I wouldn’t call Christina “chaotic” as such, just more carefree if that makes sense? She causes the chaos, but she herself isn’t a chaotic personality and the chaos she causes doesn’t always come off as intentional. Christina Boleyn does things because they make her happy, and to hell with anyone else. Again, it comes back to Christina not being deliberately mean. Yes it’s selfish, and she doesn’t shy away from being competitive but mostly this Boleyn is just out to have a good time. Outside the contest you could probably have a drink with this version of Boleyn.

Christina!Boleyn (cast recording):

I feel like Christina’s portrayal on the album suffers in the same way Aimie’s portrayal of Howard suffers on the album i.e all the vocals had to sound perfect at the expense of the actual performance. Christina can’t be as expressive and that’s a massive blow to the character. This characterisation also sort of suffers from the fact that this is only the song vs the other portrayals all having full shows and dialogue, so I do understand that it’s incredinly unfair to try and compare this version to the others but damn it I have opinions and you’re all going to here about them.

Anyway, it’s sort funny to me how the characterisation between the live version of Boleyn and the album are so different considering it’s the same actress. On the album, Christina Boleyn feels much more flirtatious, to the point where I think it’s the most flirtatious Boleyn yet. Maybe it’s the way she purrs? I’m not sure. And while this Boleyn does still feel carefree (although to a much lesser extent), this is overpowered by how much meaner Christina is here. For example, “I didn’t really mean it but rumours spiral” comes off as a a blatant lie in the album, versus being mostly believeable in the live version. There are meaner boleyns. But the problem is that there’s not much to offset that meanness on the album vs the other portrayals. Again, I know it’s unfair to unfair to compare it but it’s all just my opinion. I still love the album because,,,it’s an album and i want to support six and also Christina as an actress because I still think she was amazing and I hate how Christina is just glossed over sometimes.

Millie Boleyn:

So I feel like illie’s version of Boleyn has become one of the the de-facto version of the character for a lot of people, mostly because she has not one but two professionally recorded videos of Don’t Lose Ur Head. She is often credited as being the actress to define Boleyn as chaotic, but again I feel that has more to do with the script and the directing

On a characterisation note, I’d say Millie is actually pretty balanced between loads of elements. Millie is flirtatious, but not the most flirtatious. She’s mean, but not the meanest. She’s patronising, but not the most patronising. She’s proud of her position in history, but doesn’t revel in it. Again, she definitely feels less carefree and more like she’s chugged seven energy drinks before going on stage...but that’s why a lot of people like Millie!Boleyn and she’s always so much fun to watch. I would also say that Millie is possibly the Boleyn who the PTSD/hurting others before they can hurt her makes the most sense for, but I don’t want to hand that title to her because I KNOW that argument can be made for all the others too. But there’s also something very sarcastic about Millie’s Boleyn. I wouldn’t go as far as to say that this Boleyn doesn’t believe anything she’s saying, but there are certainly parts where Millie!Boleyn is playing into her own archetype and poking fun at misconceptions.

Grace Boleyn:

Grace Boleyn feels like she leans in most to the “queen bee cheerleader” archetype the most for Boleyn. She’s better than you and she knows it, and she’s going to let you know as well/put you in you’re place. There’s also something patronising about Grace Boleyn, really talking down to and belitting the other queens at any chance she gets. All the Boleyn’s talk down to the other queens, but for some reason I really notice it with Grace...ESPECIALLY when Howard is involved.

Vicki Boleyn:

Vicki Boleyn has earned herself a reputation for being absolutely both chaotic and completely feral, and with good reason. I feel like Vicki having a much rougher accent when compared to every other Boleyn really impacts her character (absolutely no hate to Vicki’s London accent because I actually love it). And when you take into consideration Vicki literally screaming every line to Don’t Lose Ur Head, it’s safe to say that this Boleyn would be the most likely to just deck you in the face.

But I mean,,, that’s why people love Vicki Boleyn. Yeah she’s an absolute asshole, but she’s a loveable asshole at the very least. Her spiteful nature is at least balanced out with some amazing ad-libbed lines when the queens make fun of Parr and she’s so over the top that you just can’t help but like her. And I’d argue that this is the Boleyn I kind of feel most sorry for, because Vicki sounds so distressed when asking “what was I meant to do”, like she genuinely doesn’t understand why Henry suddenly doesn’t like the attitude that made him originally love her. And that’s actually super sad??? And that’s why Vicki Boleyn is still incredibly sympathetic despite being the most horrible, unlike the album Boleyn where Christina wasn’t as inherently unlikeable but didn’t have anything to offset how terrible she came off as.

Collette Boleyn:

Okay not going to lie, when I first listened to the Collette Boleyn Megasix I actually thought it was Millie singing because I put my phone down to check my iPad and I forgot it was a Collette Boleyn video. I’m promise I’m smart.

Even though Collette sounds like a mix between Vicki and Millie, I think @vioislit summed up her characterisation best: she kind of sounds like the most done gen z version of Boleyn. She’s done with Henry, she’s done with the other queens and she’s done with the competition. Like she’s doing this because she was to, because it's in her contract, but she doesn't really care either way. (That’s not an insult to Collette at ALL! I mean it characterisation wise, it doesn’t feel like Collette herself is just there for the paycheck at all). It’s like,,,Collette!Boleyn KNOWS that even if she does lose the competition, it doesn’t really matter in the long run because she’ll always be the most famous and most talked about wife even if she does lose this one little competition. One 75 minute show won’t erase the last 500 years of history.

Collette!Boleyn seems very proud of her infamy, and again this can probably be argued for all of the Boleyn’s but Collette truly seems to revel in the fact that she’s the “biggest sinner”.

Andrea Boleyn:

With Andrea Boleyn I can really see the Avril Lavigne vibes. Andrea really plays into the “I’m really cute and innocent but I’m not” and it works REALLY well. It’s probably to do with her voice being a little higher than the others, along with her being so adorably tiny, that makes the switches between the two versions so interesting.

There’s also something about her accent, but I don’t mean that as an insult at all. In fact it really works. Andrea’s Boleyn comes off as a high schooler in some ways, who really just really is there to have a good time but isn’t actually thinking about any of the consequences of anything she’s doing. And obviously that makes her more sympathetic than Boleyns who actually know what they’re doing is wrong and will get them hurt.

Mallory Boleyn:

Like I’ve been saying this entire time, I feel like there’s something very similar to Grace’s Boleyn with Mallory’s portrayal. That sort of “queen bee, better than you and knows it” sort of vibe is present in both versions.

But the key difference is that Mallory Boleyn is defensive. She’s probably the single most defensive Boleyn out of the lot. Her insults come split seconds after anyone tries to give examples of why they might have had the worst time, rather than waiting a few seconds like the others Boleyns do.

And I mean,,,that kind of makes sense? Throughout all of history, Boleyn is the one who usually gets her story told the most, and because no one ever really talks about Howard, Boleyn is usually seen as the one who had the worst time. And this competition could potentially strip Boleyn of that title and give it to someone such as Seymour or Howard. And Mallory Boleyn is not about to have that. Yes, this could explain why all the Boleyn’s are so competitive, but Mallory being less playful with her insults makes me think that there’s more to her Boleyn that just winning the competition for the sake of winning it.

Yeah, it took absolutely ages and some queens made me want to rip my hair out, but it was fun comparing and contrasting them all and getting all my notes together. Anemone: Eureka Seven Hi Evolution

Let’s try and figure this out..

After watching the film, I had so many questions! Some I know we’ll have to wait for Eureka Seven Hi Evo 3, but there were so many scenes that had my brain twisting!! There isn’t going to be much of an order here, so bare with me as things go by a little chaotic like…

MAJOR spoilers down below

The world

So, looks like this world takes place in ANOTHER seperate universe in the E7 series. This time, it’s on Earth, in the year 2028 (I think) where humanity has been invaded by scub scab coral, specifically the ones we see are called the seventh Eureka aka “Eureka 7”. Now, does this mean there are other scab corals around the planet that are called Eureka 1- 6?

When diving into this film, I was curious if this movie connects to Hi Evo 1, since Anemone replaced what they previewed at the end of the first movie. Well, from what I noticed it seems that these two are indeed connected.

They mentioned “Silver Box” lots of times in the movie, the weapon we see in Hi Evo 1. I’ll get back to this one specifically, later.

Near the end of the film, we see the same Control Cluster shown in the first film.

Anemone witnesses the end of the first film, with Renton running, crying, and grinning as he goes to find Eureka. Again, more on this and Renton later.

When we see Nirvash type Z, he breaks out of some kind of egg. In Hi Evo 1, we see that same egg thing surrounding Dewey’s Devilfish after he survived the Summer of Love.

There lots of other things but I could, but I ain’t gonna list them all. Speaking of Dewey, what the hell happened to that guy? Dr Bear says the found him coming out half way through the scab coral. Is this Dewey the same one as Hi Evo 1? Possibly not, since he says the Renton in his world is dead(?). He also mentions that the stock footage other worlds Anemone sees, while she virtually dives, are not true and that his actual world is coming through the scab. What his actual world is, I believe the film left us wondering intentionally. Whatever it is, he’s obviously scheming something. He also mentions a bunch of mystic mumbo jumbo which makes me head go owy.

Silver Box

So, Silver Box was something I was completely not expecting to hear about again. From what we know, Silver Box is a musical warhead Adroc designed to combat the scabs. It lands on top of the Control Cluster and starts syncing with the scabs, bit then apparently goes out control. When Dewey goes to check it out, Silver Box is actually fully operational, but then swallows Dewey up in these red ribbons, protecting him from the Summer of Love. Then Adroc uses the Nirvash to “shutdown” The Silver Box, and its disappears. So what is it doing in Hi Evo 2? Before the climax, we see these red ribbons as the burst through the floor of the lab Anemone’s team was working in, carrying Anemone upwards. Dominic 2.0 also said that Silver Box wasnt working with him at one point too. One of the big hints was that Eureka seemed to be using Silver Box to create her different worlds. So, perhaps Silver Box was shut down in Hi Evo 1, but it already synced with the Cluster, making it possibly super charged? Like as if the two fused to make some kind of super world altering power?

Eureka and her “Dreams”

So, when we meet officially Eureka, she gets pissed at Anemone for not allowing her to be with Renton in these “dreams”. She later explains that in her world, Renton was swallowed up by her arm during Acperience (I’ll get to THAT later too). So she “dreams” up scenarios where she and Renton are still together. This, to us, is shown as all other continuities in the E7 franchise: The original series, AO, Pocket Rainbows, the games, fan art, and the manga. So does this mean this Eureka dreamed up all the past 10 years of the franchise? Honestly, I hope that’s not the case. Maybe with Silver Box’s help, Eureka was able to recreate/ copy other worlds that also had scabs (the other universes), and wanted to live out these fake existences as long as it means she’ll be with Renton?

Acperience

So if you’re a long time fan, and this word seems familiar, that is cause it is. Acperience was the title for 4 of the 50 episodes of the orignal series. Each episode contains a point where are main characters get in some form of contact with the scubs and enter their limbo-like world made for communication. Though they never mention it by name in the show (at least not from the dub that I can remember), the Hi Evo movies both describe this other worldly contact as Acperience. Hi Evo 1 mentions it when Renton places the Amnita Drive on Nirvash’s Compact Drive, starting the acperience. Then Hi Evo 2 calls it whenever Anemone travels from her world to Eureka’s.

Renton

One of the biggest reasons this film is a little confusing is thanks to this kid. So as mentioned above, what makes this story twist from the first Hi Evo 1, is that Renton dies in the acperience event that happens in the first film, yet as we know in Ho Evo 1, that’s the opposite. In fact, he stops it from happening and saves Eureka from decomposing. So do we have a split timeline in a universe where there’s already alternate timelines? Then, take make things even more confusing, turns out Renton’s not actually dead, but he’s in what looks like ANOTHER universe! We dont know which one for certain, but from what we see when we pass that strange cube we saw in the first film (maybe its quartz?), the world that Renton is on is very similar to the Earth we see know of the end of the original series, since we see that it has a large land mass covering half of the original planet.

Or

He’s actually staring at an Earth and hes in a universe that just has two Earths! In Hi Evo 1, Adroc sees the quartz(?) and two Earths and calls it the “true world”. I thought we were seeing a multiverse effect of multiple Earths from multiple universes, but maybe he just saw two Earths? We also see in a quick, blink and you miss it, moment that Adrock is sent there too, after he stops Silver Box.

So the question is how did Renton get there? I think that when Renton was swallowed by Eureka’s arm, he actually got acperienced to that universe and is trying to find a way back.

The Ending

This was a literal wtf moment. So after defeating Eureka and possibly the Control Cluster/Silver Box hybrid, the scabs turn to dust and reveal that somehow, The Gekko and Gekkostate show up and break free from the scabs. Then we see Charles and Ray got there too! How?! Then Dewey walks out, being all ominous and shit. Then Eureka, Anemone, Dominic, and giant Gulliver (I’m not even gunna try to explain how they came to be alive, let’s just go with fatherly love) witness an giant egg with an completely new Nirvash showing revealing to Eureka that Renton is alive.

What?

I hope they explain that in Hi Evo 3, but I got a hunch that the next film wont anwser anything. (Let’s hope my hunches are worse than Anemone’s)

Trivia things I noticed

When a Nirvash attacks, it apparently only goes for 1246 seconds, just like the antibodies in the original series

When Anemone gets play-backed into the Spearhead, its has TheEnd color scheme which, I think, proves that TheEnd in Pocket Full of Rainbows was the same black spearhead in that film

Generation Bleu sign tehee!

Speaking of Gen Bleu, Mischa and Sonia name drop the Triton and Posiden. Maybe those crafts and their teams exist in this universe too!

The music the pilot plays while Nirvash X attacks is called Tiger Tracks, which is the actual name of the song composed for the original series. Good shit.

Obviously, the number 7 is a constant in this film. You see it everywhere.

favorite thing about them

first of all: the fact that Green canonically has a rivals to best friends arc with Red fills me with so much joy and YES they are on their alolan honeymoon you cannot convince me otherwise

okay like. gen 1 Green just perfectly encompasses what it’s like to be a ten year old in a way? like ofc he’s written like a kid bc he is a kid, but i feel like the writing on him just feels so genuine as compared to some of the other 10 yr old rivals you get in other regions. even though he’s kinda a brat at the start, he kinda eases up a bit as you go along your journey and starts giving you progressively nicer/more praise-y end lines when you beat him (going from “i picked the wrong pokémon!” to “so, you are ready for boss rocket!”) but still retains this childlike rivalry and competitiveness and i love that about him

and like. fucking beating him at the Indigo League still completely breaks my heart because even after he did become the champion at age 10 the first thing that happens is you beat him and Prof Oak just yells at him for being bad at things and like. ow. 

this is why i headcanon that Red actually took awhile longer to get to Green like please. please give my boy a chance to be happy and proud

also Red was caught up with Team Rocket anyway so i imagine he must’ve fallen a little behind at some point? anyway

the development on him across regions is so choice!!! he’s so much more mellow and even kinda melancholic when you find him in gsc/hgss, like he’s calmed down over a few years and he obviously misses Red so much but like, it’s clear that Red is kinda the reason Green does settle down and he seems to have worked on his character and become a nicer person - and he still has that sassy flair to him! he’s just got that gradual slope from asshole rival to kinda aloof gym leader to friendly/sassy battle legend and aaaaa i love my boy so MUCH

also huge point: he’s so fucking driven??? he’s got the most drive and the most passion for battles/pokémon in general out of all the rivals i feel. he’s only closely matched by Silver, but Silver seems to be more aggressive than passionate, and somewhat out of necessity too (like, Giovanni abandoned him what was he to do), whereas Green just really like. he genuinely just cares so much about battles and about pokémon in general! he literally calls you in hgss and just rants about how many different kinds of pokémon there are in the world!!!

also in Alola he’s like???? just so sweet?????? he congratulates you and is like hey you’re really strong lets battle like!!!!!!!!! supportive boy!!!!! he has come so far over so many generations and i cry

also on Four Island when you play frlg he legitimately says “Be smelling ya!” when he leaves and how do you not love this idiot

least favorite thing about them

i mean. while i get that you beat Green right after he becomes the champion in the kanto games i feel like there should’ve been more pomp and circumstance for him and i’ll never forgive gamefreak for giving this boy his dream, then making you rip it away from him, and then watching his own gramps yell at him for fucking up like. again it’s that drive, i get why Red keeps such good pace w Green but i just feel like he worked so hard and he deserved so much better than that

also while i’m very biased towards him bc Big Emotions, i feel like if i knew this boy irl who was constantly i’m so great and you’re a loser i would probably punch him eventually lmao. in theory it’s kinda endearing but as a real person that’d be grating

Green has all this energy and all this spunk and Red is just like… so opposite of him y'know? he’s quiet and he’s more measured in his behavior i feel, he doesn’t really rush into things as much, and yet they both really just took Kanto by storm when they were kids, and i like how they have this foil dynamic and are both still so successful? they’re so different and they complement each other in that way, and they both find success in their own ways

like one of the reasons i hate that Green’s championship gets undersold so much is that he did beat you to the punch, and he has been one step ahead of you, and there’s so much passion there and it’s so loud - and yet you as Red are just as driven, you take down Team Rocket, you’re always right on his tail, so close but not quite there, you’re the only one who can keep up with him and you’re the only one he cares enough about to slow down for

while Red is still living on Mount Silver, Green is not coping well with having him so far away, and so Green massively overworks himself to the point that he keeps just not being in his gym sometimes bc he’s bouncing between the gym, training multiple teams, pokémon research, and ofc going to visit Red whenever he can. this leads him to be kinda temperamental after he’s been working on 2 hours of sleep a day for like a week until he just has an emotional meltdown and crashes, and then he gets right back into it because he has no self preservation

…….. nicer headcanon; Red can only cook two (2) foods, so Green cooks all the food for them when they move in together. he has attempted to teach Red how to cook, but Red pretends not to understand so Green will keep making him food. Green knows Red is faking it and doesn’t call him out bc he thinks it’s cute

look i’ve played through classic red version a few times and when i say he wasn’t that much of a jerk, i do genuinely mean he was not that much of a jerk. he’s like ten. ten year olds are just Like That. i guess this isn’t too unpopular anymore but it was Back In The Day and in some parts of the fandom he’s still seen as a jerk and like Bro He Is Ten In RGB/FRLG cut him some slack

favorite thing about them

by now i guess you know im a sucker for character development, but i think they did a really good job with her!! i feel like her turn is a bit more in moments than it is with Green, who gradually evolves (lol) over the course of Kanto/all the gens overall. you see more discrete moments where Lillie starts to shift and gain confidence in herself and i am so proud of her ???? like the way she gets excited when she sees Olivia doin’ her z-move stuff, she starts buying her own clothes and getting ahead of you, etc etc

and like, she still has moments where she’s scared, there’s still some fundamental Lillie in there yknow? you don’t lose any of that softness that characterizes Lillie, she just like… she gets better, she develops without losing her Lillie vibe and i love that abt her. she overcomes a lot of the shit she had to deal with when she was stuck with Lusamine, she stands up to Lusamine eventually, and ghfdkjsg gah she’s a sweet gorl i love and appreciate her

also like. the writing on her backstory is so subtle in-universe. like yeah she literally looks like Lusamine’s daughter and you see her in the opening cutscene leaving Aether, but as the protagonist - like as Selene lets say, there’s little hints about where Lillie came from, and if you suspend your disbelief and put yourself in the pc’s shoes, there’s subtly to her character arc that i like 

also like. when she changes her outfit and starts being more protagonist-y, like more confident and kinda bubbly instead of shy??? love that shit it’s so cute can i have custody of this child pls

i like. sometimes feel like she’s too soft of a character for me to really get into? like i love her and Hau, they’re sweet good friends, but i tend to personally gravitate towards characters that create a little more tension (ie Green and N)

(though on that note, Hau can be kinda savage. he just calls Faba out and sarcastically calls Gladion “a ray of sunshine” at some point i think?? Lillie is just very tender and i will support her forever, but i think that also makes her almost too soft to keep me fixated on her yknow. it’s not even a flaw in her character but just not something i fawn over as much)

like that ending kills me but that line almost feels like. I Feel That So Much like i feel so happy to have met all these new characters and to have played these games, and i feel like some of the player’s energy and enjoyment of the game is channeled into this last line of hers

My H.S. Rant

Which is actually more of a plea to his fans who are struggling. 

I feel like I should preface this by saying that I Love Harry Styles. I love him, but I am disappointed in some of his underlining message in the Zane Lowe interview. I also feel pretty confident in saying that this boy is Not Okay. 

The First Thing:  Therapy. I don’t know if this is what he meant to imply or not, but not going to therapy bc ur having the same type of conversations with your friends is not actually okay. Like, yeah. opening up and being vulnerable to ur friends is important. but it doesn’t replace going to a therapist who went to school to train for the specific thing. talking to your friends can help release some of that initial steam, but it doesn’t give you tools to navigate the hurdles that life is throwing at you. 

It also isn’t necessarily fair to your friends, either. I’ve been guilty of this, so I’m not putting myself on a pedestal. but we never know what our friends are going through, truly and honestly, because we’re not walking in their shoes. so we can vent and rant to them, and for all we know they are not in the head space to take on our burdens. which just adds more burdens for them. and on the other hand, we should not be expected to carry the burdens of our friends. it is okay to be like ‘yo, i know ur hurting right now/i know ur mad right now/i know u need to talk right now but i just cant. can we come back to this later?” 

Friends dont replace therapy and therapy doesnt replace friends.

Subpoint: Writing a song/writing a poem/writing a story about an issue you have and then moving on is not actually... moving on. 

it goes hand in hand with the venting to a friend thing. it releases the initial steam but it doesnt actually solve the problem at hand. 

I wrote a story 8ish years ago, and the problems i was going through then that motivated me to write that specific story im still dealing with. bc i just put it in the story, didnt talk to my therapist about it, and ‘moved on.’ now im 8 years older, just now facing the fact of what my problems were and dealing with them head on. 

its essentially like bottling up ur emotions. which. is. not. good. it’ll just eat you up in the end. 

writing about your problems, your issues, and what you dont like about yourself is not a replacement for going to therapy. 

The Second Thing.  Drugs/Alcohol. I don’t even know where to start with this one. But it’s pretty simple, i guess. 

“if youre taking anything to escape or try to hide from stuff, then you shouldn’t even drink. and if youre taking anything to have fun and be creative then great.”

MY PALS. THERE IS SO MUCH WRONG WITH THAT STATEMENT. 

Yes he was with friends. yes he felt safe. and if you ever want to do drugs or get drunk then that’s the way to do it, trust me. my first time getting high i did not feel safe and i definitely shouldn’t have done it. BUT HE IS CONTRADICTING HIMSELF. 

obvs dont do anything to try to escape. but if you have to take drugs or alcohol to have fun.... my guys. we have a problem. and if you have to get high or drunk to get creative... mates. we have a problem. 

if you do those things you can still become dependent on them in order to have fun/be creative. to tear down those walls. that aint good. 

if i ever get to the point where i have to become drunk to write a well written, creative story, then just take that away from me. i dont want it. 

this is why the arts – all of them – can be so dangerous. it’s encouraged by most professional in most fields to get drunk to break down those barriers and find that creative drive. and we keep going further and further to get deeper into that creative well until we’re so deep we can’t get out and then we’re... gone. 

and i guess more than anything i am so incredibly disappointed in my boy harry. he has this incredible platform where he has the attention and adoration of the upcoming generation and the younger millennials only to... 

encourage them to get high for creative sake? 

nah bro. i can’t support that. 

and i know this isn’t the popular opinion. and i know that a lot of people will probably come at me with all caps. i know i sound like a grandma. but i am. i am a grandma and i deeply care about gen z and millennials. and bc of that, i can’t condone what harry said. 

if you’re struggling... dont settle just talking to friends. dont settle just releasing that sadness or anxiety or whatever the heck issue you have into some creative outlet or a friend. go find a therapist. 

if youre struggling being creative or having fun. dont do drugs. there are plenty of other ways to loosen up.

What’s not to like? He’s Goku’s son, the youngest SSJ, hilarious as a kid, and really cool as a teenager. Plus I always root for the underdog and Goten is definitely the underdog in terms of screentime out of all the main Z Fighters

Because Toei and Bandai don’t do shit with him!! We barely know anything about him since Super started, which was supposed to be next-gen time going by Goku in Buu saga but nooooppe!

I love these two so much. There’s so much potential here, and their dynamic could be absolutely adorable if handled right. A combo of Gochi and K18 lol. 

Most of my headcanons are from their teen years soo thats what they’ll be about. I like to make Marron 1-2 year younger than Goten instead of 4 so yeah keep that in mind. If he’s 17 she’s 15-16.

Plus Ive never liked Valese from GT with Goten. She was cute but seemed like such a random choice.

Anyway, Goten is more like Goku/Gohan than his GT self, at least in the beginning. When he starts hs, he’s super into girls but is just shy/naive. Not to the degree of Goku or Gohan, but he cant’ pick up on flirting well. And he cant flirt back he’s just like uhhh thanks? Once he gets the confidence he thinks he’s suave / cool af but in reality he’s a dork. He’d be trying to act cool in front of Marron once theyre dating while wearing a Power Rangers or some kids show T shirt lolol

Marron is the tsundere type, but only with Goten. She had a crush on him since she was like 7 but he never knew. Everyone else knew it though. Trunks teased him about it constantly but for the longest time he was just like ??????? Anyway, one day it just hit him in the face, and he realized he liked her too but was just a dumbass. Cliche ik but idc lol. 

She’ll call him stupid but she’s totally kidding and he knows it. When they were children, Goten gave her the nickname “Mare” which she basically melts whenever she hears it. And Goten is the only one who can say it, if Trunks tries to she’ll get mad at him hahaha. 

And they’re totally shy on first date.

After they start going out, Chichi is all like “omg finally welcome to the family~~~~” because she considered Marron like a daughter anyway.

9. Head Canon

- Goten hates school and as such doesnt go to college after high school. It was never his thing and Chichi didn’t want to push him into something he didnt want to do, so she just let him be. After hs he got a job at Capsule Corp as like Trunks’ assistant or something once Trunks starts working there as pres. They frequently skip work to go to the arcade or train or something. Usually Goten’s idea because he’s a kid at heart.

Once Goten decides an office job isn’t for him, he decides to open a dojo. And there he rediscovers his passion for fighting and starts training serously again (which in turn motivates Trunks to start training again as well. They keep each other on their toes. Though he still doesn’t like all the public eye so they keep the Ki lessons on the down low. 

He eventually surpasses his father and grows his tail back after training with Elder Kai. me 

10. Unpopular opinion

Goten (and by extension Trunks to a lesser degree) should have been the MC of Super that starts post EOZ ignoring all this god shit.

For him to get the type of role that Gohan did in Z for an arc. Or even Kid Trunks in the Black arc.
