Im gonna be honest and open for a sec, and please do not take this as "oh I HATE my community or I dont like the people who watch me" but honestly as of late (and I did highlight this during the mcc bit), ive felt like I havent been able to really be in my own community simply because of the constant way that "discourse" is handled. Making vague posts and not really tackling issues in a good way, all that is going to do is just show people a big "THIS COMMUNITY BAD" sign and not actually help anything within the community, all its going to do is have the good and potentially good people leave or not join in the first place. The way that discourse is treated that ive seen has been the main reason why I have started to try to distance myself, which has been the most heartbreaking thing I have had to do. I want problems to be solved in a mature, civil way, with either a dm or a reply, not an entire vague thing that only says "bad things are happening" and doesnt elaborate on anything or barely elaboratesa and only gives people on both the inside and outside a bad sign of what the community is. Making posts whenever something happens being like "here we go again" is only going to highlight the wrong things, and actually DOESNT help the issue at all! The problems should be discussed directly with the people who are doing said problems FIRST! Bring attention to behaviors and things that arent good DIRECTLY! And also, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO!!! It is not your duty as a viewer or fan of me to be involved in any of this if you do not want to! Just enjoy the content and make silly posts! As someone who constantly tried to fix and get into every problem as it was happening, it took a huge toll on my mental health, and I want you guys to just be able to enjoy the content without having to worry about what you say about it! Be constructive! Dont make posts again just being like "wow this community is so bad" because that doesnt solve literally anything! If you have enough passion to make the posts saying "wow this community is bad" then only post about that, you are only spreading that negative message, and not uplifting anything of actual value! And if the person you are trying to help is not willing or not listening, BLOCK! MUTE! DONT BRING MORE ATTENTION TO THE PERSON IF THEY ARE NOT BEING A GOOD PART OF THE COMMUNITY!!!! I know I say that if I see problems I will call them out, but I shouldnt have to babysit every single time a thing happens within the community as that just isnt a healthy way for a creator or a community to be handled. This does not mean that I do not care about the issues or dont want them fixed, rather it shouldnt take me having to make some grand statement every single time something happens it should take only your own self reflection and self awareness. And to add onto this, make sure that every once in a while no matter who you are you think and have that self reflection, you should be open to being willing to learn and grow as a person! And again, I do NOT want anyone taking this as "Wow this community is terrible" but rather that we just have things that need to be fixed and changed and THAT IS OKAY! I do not hate the community, I care so much about it that I want it to be a silly place for my content again! I want it to be the reason why people get into what I do because of it again! And I want to be able to just have fun and relax without having to worry about how every single thing that I may say could have someone stirring things up that simply dont help or solve anything! Take care of yourselves. And this isnt coming from a place of "I hate the community as a whole" but rather again I want to be able to exist and make content that we can all enjoy without having to worry about walking on eggshells around me or around eachother! I recently saw the post about Jason and Cass not having to get along, and how that adds to their dynamic.

So I was wondering, are there any other interesting facts/headcanons about relationships in the Batfam?

Your own or some you simply stumbled across?

Because what frustrates me is the absolute lack of nuance in relationships in a lot of in most of Batfam centric fan-works.

The extent to which people write Bruce as either an absolute peace of shit, or as someone who will kiss his kids feet and beg them for the slightest bit of attention

(this being the supposedly "good" parenting- which… No? That ain’t it)

Because something I find incredibly compelling about their dynamics is the absolute loyalty Bruce often on the receiving end of.

Even when they are on terrible terms, if Bruce calls, they answer. (Usually, of course there are exceptions)

Some interesting facts/ideas about their relationships I saw were;

Dick hating Jason back when he was Robin. (Because they all a bit possessive of the Bat/insecure about their place at his side)

Tim not being Jasons fan even before the murder attempt (I read somewhere that DICK was the Robin Tim admired, and that made much more sense to me)

Cass and Dick having a tense relationship because Cass can read and understand Bruce so well, when Dick was the one who knew him best for so long.

Alfred and Bruce having a slightly more complicated relationship (I‘m so sick of 'perfect Alfred makes no mistakes' I swear. If Alfred had been as good a parent as everyone pretends (in comics or fandom) Bruce would at least be a SLIGHTLY more well adjusted individual)

No listen hear me out, Bruce’s big possibly life changing injuries? They happen with the league most of the time, because thats when he’s fighting a minor god or a sentient star or whatever. But thats also when all his allies are super powered people, thats when he should be safest. Instead he keeps coming back from league missions with close calls and broken bones.

And Clark especially, what do you mean your best friend is Superman and your arm broke in the three places on that last mission. Where was he??

Alfred and Clark having a 😒 relationship is always fun too, because while kids wont see it or realize it Clark has absolutely witnessed how Alfred parents Bruce and how … less then ideal it can be.

Kate and Alfred, because of backstory reasons (did Alfred do nothing to keep the Kanes in contact with Bruce?? Why??) and also because it would be funny.

Cass and Jason is a good one and it makes so much more sense then the usual “cass loves her big little brother uwu” because i think what Cass would love about Jason would be stealing his weapons and hiding them and watching him lose his mind. Stop bringing guns into her dads house he doesnt like them and its his house.

I think. Oh this is going to be a hot take. I think Bruce resents when Tim tries to patronize or parent him. You know exactly what i mean right, that very specific flavor of infantilization you see in Tim-and-Bruce fics where Tim is a genius brilliant boi and Bruce is just led around by the nose? Hate it and i think Bruce hates it and knows exactly when Tim is trying it. Does he look like Jack Drake?? No?? Good because he was getting worried. (Bruce loves Tim. He loves how much Tim cares. He does not love how Tim thinks caring means permission to run his life).

Another hot take, i dont think Alfred and Jason got along as well as they did until after Jason resurrected. I think baby Jason treated Alfred the way Alfred treated him, so more like two people living in the same space who mutually respect each other them like grandparents. I think Jasons death and his anger at Bruce and Dick made him want/need a neutral person to project his happy memories onto, and Alfred was that person.

Duke being wary of Jason and Red Hood - because he remembers how many people lost people to Red Hood when he first arrived, and i dont care what comics told you there is no way he did what he did without collateral damage.

Damian and Dick should have a messy, complicated, resentful relationship. Damian wanted his father, no matter how good a replacement you write Dick as that isnt what he wanted. Dick also wanted his dad, and he didnt want to be Batman or a parent or any of it, and the fact that Bruce was actually alive and if hed only moved faster, if the JL had only been smarter, if someone had been paying attention, he never would have had to do any of it. And im going to he so honest right now the way fandom writes their “good” relationship is so bad sometimes. I hesitate to use the word toxic because yaknow its been done to death but seriously.

Anyways i think i hit enough hornets nests here, but will leave with, good parenting does not always look like you think it should. Allowing your children to violate your boundaries, always taking full responsibility for mutual miscommunications and misunderstandings, and never letting them suffer consequences for actions they take is just setting them up for failure.

When the Seven is formed, the others are a mixed bag; John doesn’t care enough to pay them attention, and they do the opposite, openly gawking at Scout, eyes widening further when Scout outwardly prefers his company; they want to ask, but clam up when he glares at them, hesitant to touch the guide. 

“Can’t you take me to my soulmate, already?” he asks Scout one morning; the dog tilts his head, tongue hanging out, and John swears he nods his head in response. Scout grabs his glove, and darts off with it, dodging John as he attempts to grab him; John is just about ready to throw caution to the wind when Scout stops; John doesn’t, flying directly into a tree. He’s not knocked out, but it takes a moment for the ringing to stop; when his eyes open again, you’re standing over him.

“Oh my god, Homelander, sir, are you alright?” 

John never quite understood how people could just know their soulmate by sight, even with their guides, he just never understood how people were 100% certain, but now looking at you, it’s like his whole mind just screams ‘yes.’ You hold out your hand for him to take, helping him stand, even with the gloves; your touch just feels right; Scout is the happiest John has ever seen him, tail wagging fast, “Oh, hello again,” you say to him, scratching Scout just behind the ears, you turn to John with a fond teasing smile, and he knows he’s already gone. “So, I guess this means the cat’s all you?” The cat is an orange ragdoll that, according to you, has scratched, bitten, hissed, and attacked anyone who came too close to you for her liking; John’s proud to hear that you named her Mochi, and he’s less proud of that, “Mean cats need cute names,” you simply state.

“What, you’re gonna give me a cute name too, then,” he snickers.

“I don’t see why not,” you eye him for a second, pursing your lips as you think of a name, “Snookums.” His face scrunches in horror, and you laugh, “Ok, ok, that was bad. Honeybun? Pudding? Pumpkin?” You rotate through so many names, each one as sappy as the last one, John’s expressions fueling your laughter further - there’s the distinct sound of a camera shutter, but John ignores it - placing a hand over your mouth as you dissolve into giddy hysterics. “Alright, point taken,” you say, and John is acutely aware of how close he’s pulled you to him. “How about your name then? I can’t just call you Homelander forever.”

“John,” he says.

“John. Johnathan,” You try the words on your tongue, “Jonnie, Johnny Boy.” You shake your head, “Yeah, I’ll stick with John.” You smile, giving John your name, “Nice to meet you, John.”

the first time you see douma you just feel like somthing is. off

hes pretty - stunning, honestly - in this mystical, dangerous way that should lead you away from him instead of bringing you closer. but, its the opposite for his followers - they hang onto every word he says and believe him so earnestly its kind of sad

douma immediately thinks theres something wrong w you. you dont have that foggy, starry-eyed gaze everyone else does when hes near. you look cautious - aware. it makes him hungry

he leans down to face you, "hello, stranger! stay as long as you need to, hm?"

your skin crawls but you nod anyways

staying in paradise is odd. again, everyone hangs on douma's every word and trusts his every action. they devote themselves to him. but youve noticed -

people are going missing, women specifically.

his followers are v obviously in lust w him, bragging abt the nights spent alone w him and begging to be the next chosen one

"it'll be me," one girl says as she dries the freshly cleaned dishes. she perks her chest up smugly, "i've got his favored assets."

"he's been spending more time with me," another argues, "asking for me personally."

"don't act so mighty-"

and then the man himself appears in the doorway with a soft, barely there smile. "[random name], we have some things to discuss. see you tonight?"

everyones attention shifts to the smallest one in the kitchen, eyes large and timid. her hands shake so hard the plate shes holding falls to the floor and shatters. douma tilts his head, "everything alright, sweet? should we have our session a little earlier?"

"shes going to die."

it comes from your mouth before you can stop it. multi-colored eyes snap to you, his nose crinkling slightly. you simply stare, "when they disappear with you, they vanish. die."

douma hides the way his eye twitches. the bustier girl stammers, shoving your shoulder roughly. "you shouldnt say such things! apologize to lord-"

"its okay," doumas eyes twinkle, "curious cicumstances, hm, [name]?"

she doesnt die. its as if douma is proving a point to you - proving you wrong. she lives that night - only to vanish the next. "a personal trip," douma speaks. he dismisses everyones concerns except for yours.

and when you start speaking up more - predicting everyones death - he begins to punish you

the water you wash dishes with is either scalding hot or below freezing. theres a new night shift to the sanctuary that you take care of, staying awake for days on end. cleaning the entirety of paradise by yourself. watching as every other member feasts heartily while your portion is forgotten or unavailable.

douma even tries to throw you off his trail. he speaks to numerous people - has those secret conversations with men and others out of his normal type. but you always seem to know the exact one hes going to consume - the one who will die.

as if you predict it

and that makes him so curious! youre such an annoyance ; a hazard to keep around. but what if you could predict the future? what if maybe you were just that observant?

it doesnt help that you arent afraid of him. most of the time, you simply stare and blink at him, like youre bored

and that starts his obsession with you

the women he takes to his room are reminescent of you. your eye color ; hair color ; height ; the way they speak ; the letter of their name - any similarity to you and theyre done

starts calling you "precious" , "chosen" , or "blessing" to make sure you know hes keeping an eye on you but to also make the other followers hate you

listen, I’ve watched this little sisters grow up for over a decade now and yes, they took on some responsibility of the bbg stuff. But it took a turn from like… the girls posting some stuff that actually was somewhat Larry proof, to then really picking up more of this stunt than what I thought was necessary. they would be under NDAs sure, but they’re not directly involved in this stunt. this is NOT their stunt, this is a contract between louis and 1d’s team. the girls would not be contractually obligated to post a certain amount of content of F etc., but they would be highly encouraged to. and that’s great that they’re taking on the social media aspect of it and louis can step back. they are a very tight knit bunch of siblings who love and care for each other dearly.

they also are now adults (which is still so weird to me lol) and influencers, so they are much more aware of the interactions between themselves and the 1d fandom, what gets them likes and hits etc etc., and they are quite media savvy from having grown up surrounded by one of the music industry’s biggest cover ups ever. them and Lou Teasdale both used the occasional Snapchat/social media post that would be very clearly hinted towards Larry - all with some classic plausible deniability included.

now, the fact that they are influencers, means they need engagement. Lottie has done extremely well for herself and has created her own kind of social media presence that does not rely on louis these days, and she has her own branding. She’s her own public figure, and that’s great.

the twins are following suit, but haven’t reached that level of interaction and following that is outside of the fandom. they have a little bit, but nowhere near like Lottie. SO what posts get them the most engagement? the most clicks? the most likes? well… anything that has to do with Louis. with louis not really wanting to be the star of his little sisters’ instagrams, the next closest thing is that kid. and im not being “villainous” towards the tomlinson sisters, im simply laying down the facts. those girls, while they have been encouraged to take on bbg content off of louis’ hands to keep up the ruse, they also have benefit in doing so. it gets them engagement. it’s truly that simple.

im not hating on those girls, but also, their accounts aren’t being run by someone else. they aren’t in the same position louis is. and lottie does do the occasional bbg post too, but also, she’s her own influencer now. there’s a big difference between her and the twins’ brands, and maybe that’s why they’re now stepping back from pushing the F content. they want their reality show, they want their own attention, and while posting F gets them love AND hate, it works. it’s super basic marketing, and it’s a good thing for louis to step back, and the twins to use the stunt for engagement.

I am not putting all fault to those girls, btw. im saying that they may sometimes take advantage of the stunt for a boost in engagement, and that’s on them. they follow F update accounts - there is absolutely NO reason to do that and those accounts are creepy af as it is.

The problem is though, that they started taking on the bbg content heavily. I would argue more heavy than what is necessary of them, and I think they screwed themselves over with that.

I think all the Tomlinsons are good people with good hearts, and the twins im sure are lovely people. but you have to see through the surface and not take things at face value.

i wanna say yes. yes he would still be loyal to this lloyd. because, and this is something i will never forgive the webcomic for skipping, arcos knows exactly what it is to want to run away from home and he would absolutely have understood lloyd's decision and never lost hope of one day seeing him again. and he would have asked javier to keep an eye out for lloyd and to take care of him if he ever saw him.

arcos,,, also kinda hated living in the barony when he was younger. he was frustrated, bored and sick of it. he felt like he was locked up, doomed to live as a small noble in the middle of nowhere. so he ran away. he took his father's horse and left in the middle of the night.

he would've absolutely understood lloyd if he had decided to leave their home.

and just like his father rushed to his aid when he needed it, arcos would've done anything to help his child, even if the only thing he could do at that point was ask his knight to keep him safe if he found him again.

and javier, the loyal puppy he is, would've followed his request no matter how much he hated the idea of protecting someone who abandoned the home and family he loved so much. there would even another layer of hatred in his heart against og lloyd as now part of javier would always wonder if arcos would've fallen for the scam had lloyd been there. we know he would've but javier would have no way of knowing.

(there's something... really sad about arcos falling for that scam that doesn't really come across in the adaptation despite it giving more attention to tordes than the novel did. tordes didn't just... offer arcos a lucrative business. he completely fooled him into liking him. he showed up as a passionate, discreet young man with a lot of initiative. someone who shared the same interests and passions, with whom he could talk about his favorite topics, someone he was very compatible with. I thought he and I just clicked. And that's why I trusted him.

arcos who never could quite connect with his oldest son, who was constantly disappointed by his terrible actions and his lack of decency, who had come to despise his child despite how much he still loved him... of course he fell for tordes' scam. he was the perfect target for someone like him.)

at the same time i do think that maybe javier's dislike of him would've been tempered by time and distance. depending on when og lloyd left home perhaps javier's main reason to dislike him would just be very bad childhood memories of him, not the constant acts of violence and harassment he dealt with in canon. mind you, he would still despise him but it would be less of a "you're an active threat to the people around you and a constant disappointment to the people i regard as parents" and more of a "you were a bastard to me when i was a child and you leaving made the family i loved more than anything very sad", which is different if only because javier wouldn't have a reason to actively mistrust him beyond what could be considered childish bullying that happened years ago.

also. i do believe experiencing new places and actually getting a taste of what life is to someone without all the privileges he was born into would've actually done og lloyd some good and he would be less of an asshole in general. still a douche but not as much as a dick as he could be lol

scruggs: i think he's really good at making people feel safe with him. ironic considering he's a bodyguard and is also great at making people scared shitless. but. i think he's just so warm and attentive that he can break down walls pretty quickly

scruggs: very originally, waylon just needed a big strong bodyguard so if yall tried to attack him it would be at least something of a fight. once scruggs actually became a character i was like what is perfect hubband for me and leo. his actual backstory is a mishmash of several things but hes simply a little bit little women coded lmao. little women, anastasia, robin hood, a few slavic fairy tales

florence: since wolf!ama couldnt super intervene on her own behalf and yall handled annalise so handily i knew ama had to send someone to try to stop yall from taking the baby. since its ama, i knew it would have to be a female knight, and i just really liked the name florence for her. but i couldnt just Waste the name florence on a throwaway character and then i listened to high as hope in the shower and came up with all the florence/lizzie stuff and originally she was an only child but then i was like no i have to stop defaulting to only children so then the twins happened and suddenly she was a whole character and i was like. oh boy i have to make her so immediately endearing so shes not in like two sessions lmao. also, ama was going to charm the werewolves and so florence would have to be a devotion paladin for their anticharm but then that was so chewy. so she went from a plot roadblock to my babygorl in like three days

scruggs: i find weird aging stuff so fun even when it makes things convoluted so like. with him being an orc like. yes he's middle aged but also he's going to act like a 24 year old sometimes because he's only had 24 years of lived experiences. yes he was a teen and then nearly an adult when he was in the gang but also he was barely double digits. yes he was the oldest taking care of all his younger sisters but also he was just a baby. he's the oldest but no lizzie's the oldest so yes he's gonna big brother her sometimes but also sometimes he is a bratty younger brother. i just think finding the balance of like. he's lived through so much and he's mature but also he's so young is like. fun. sometimes it makes him fuck up in fun ways when he just doesnt know how to handle things a middle aged person who was actually older would

florence: kind of similar to scruggs, age/maturity stuff is so interesting to me. like. florence is technically 29 but no shes not because shes an aasimar but also shes in some big ways kind of stuck at 16. never really had proper/kind parenting and then struck out on her own and never really like. got past that age? sure she worked for the church for a long time and shes handled adult situations and she lived on her own for years and shes dated and other things adults do but like. shes also kind of still a scared teenager who needs her parents and never really had them. so now shes coming to lost and her only point of comparison is lizzie who she hasnt seen in 9 years and lizzie has grown and matured so so much and shes going Oh. i dont think i did that. like realizing how much she stagnated and doesnt know what to do about it

as much as yeji has been crazy annoying the last few chapters, i really feel sorry for her. tbh she’s the main victim in this shit show. like ofc i want hyunjin to know about the bet and everything bc y/n and hyunjin angst is top tier, but also if i was yeji i’d feel humiliated not only by the bet itself but also the fact that people knew about it and didn’t tell me.

idk if it was intentional but i think you’ve done a really good job of subtly showing how alone yeji probably feels rn. the only person paying attention to her atm is yeosang and that’s a trap in itself considering he treats her like shit and is hot and cold with his attention towards her anyway. she’s essentially in a lose-lose situation. and ofc hyunjin has a lot on his plate rn so it’s understandable that talking to yeji isn’t a priority, but i do think he needs to talk to her about her relationship with yeosang at some point. she’s his best friend and he also can somewhat tell it’s toxic relationship since he doesn’t live under a rock lmao. a bit of tough love is great and it’s good that he’s been telling her straight up that yeosang is a bad person and that she’s been lowkey weird since dating him. but as a friend he should also be there for her to seek advice from about concerns in her relationship, and not always dismiss it as simply yeosang’s a dick and you shouldn’t date him. but since he’s made it bluntly clear he hates yeosang and doesn’t want to hear about them she probably feels like she can’t confide in him if she needs to. idk i’m rambling but basically i think it’s completely fine for hyunjin to not prioritise her rn bc of the shitshow going on in his life atm, but i also feel sympathetic for yeji who’s in a manipulative relationship and probably feels isolated since hyunjin has been so dismissive towards her.

and she doesn’t even know about the bet yet so imagine how isolated and humiliated she’ll feel once she does find out. that she defended yeosang and damaged her friendship with hyunjin just for it to blow up in her face. ofc hyunjin will be there for her when that happens but i also feel like she’ll be mad at herself for not believing hyunjin and for ignoring the signs that yeosang is a bad person.

as much as she’s been a nuisance lately, at the end of the day she’s a victim of a toxic relationship and a bet she isn’t even aware of. 🖤

I dont know about you guys, but I am sick and tired of all the toxicity all of us are spreading. Actually, not all of us. There are people in each of these groups (except those of you who attack grace online, I have a message for you later) who are amazing and kind and genuine pleasures to talk to and be around. I'd like to think that I'm one of them, but I'm not going to make that decision. But back to the earlier topic: there are good people in these fandoms/groups. Which brings us to my first point. We need to stop assuming the worst of each other. There are so many stereotypes of each of us, and usually they are just based off of the actions of a few people in the fandom. Example: one person who ships blahblahblah is racist/homophobic/etc, and now the people who ship lalala think all people who ship blahblahblah are racist/homophobic/etc. Now I'm not saying there arent bad people who just say genuinely terrible things in all of these fandoms. Fellow hellcheers directly, specifically the ones doing these things (you probably know who you are), you make me embarrassed to be in the fandom. Honestly. It doesnt matter who said what first or what someone's opinion is, dont be like that, period. This applies to everyone, I just wanted my fellow hellcheers to know that they arent entirely innocent either. No one is. Unless you are one of those genuinely nice people. If you are, I love you guys, no matter which ship you like. But seriously, we can all be better. We are all probably about 14 and older. We're practically adults, almost. We should act like ones. The way you SHOULD talk about an opinion in ships is with respect for the other person's opinion. It's supposed to be sharing points of view, not telling people they are crazy or weird or homophobic or racist or anything else like that if they like something you dont. If we cant act like adults, I think our best option is to simply ignore each other. Get out of each others tags for good. Stop looking for fights. To sum this first argument up, respect each others opinions, act like adults, dont assume something about someone based on what a minority (or even if it is a majority, it doesnt matter) said or did. If we cant do that, we just ignore each other. Leave each other alone. Thank you.

It's ridiculous. Grace played a character for 14 minutes on a show where all she did in the end was die. Why do you care so much about ruining her career and hurting her? For those of you who like Joseph Quinn and are here, you realize if you said any of this crap about grace to him he would hate you, right? Hes been her number one supporter since all of you started and since the on set harassment issues.
