I pretty much refuse to listen to anything other than CDs and if I am listening to digital music I NEVER shuffle. I love listening to entire albums from start to finish. I'll put one in to listen to on my way to and from work and just vibe to it for like a whole ass month and in that month I find new things to love about it and sometimes end up listening to and loving songs I used to skip!
please listen to albums someitmes youll be amazed at what an artists songs do when theyree in an order they made. for you to listen to. etc

Things needing immediate attention in MUSE era...
We have GOT to diversify streaming platforms. Last year as a present to myself I went ahead and purchased a premium family bundle (for 6 email accounts each) for YouTube/YT Music, Pandora, and Spotify--plus a premium Apple account hooked up to Stationhead, and I currently have free trials going for Tidal, Qobuz, and Amazon. Premium streams are essential for charts.
Every day I make clicking through playlists on all these platforms as part of my routine: before breakfast, at lunch, and before bed at a minimum.
We also need to be very diligent about voting. Once I sat myself down and took the time to download the apps, set up accounts, and watch a few YouTube tutorials about how to do it, it's actually pretty easy and usually only a once or twice a day sort of thing.
Then there are the polls that have unlimited voting. That is a numbers game, a war of attrition. So while I wait for my lunch to heat up? I vote. Stuck in a waiting room for an appointment? Voting. On the phone with someone who is just gabbing away? Uh huh, mm mhm, but clickity click, I'm voting the whole time. I aim to hit that Vote button about 100 times a day. All told, takes less than 5 minutes.
Also our boy just posted on Insta after 126 days of silence. Please interact with the story and show him the love!
All in all, I think we really need to get into a routine where we fire on all cylinders. Streaming parties, funding parties, outreach & hype parties... We are hyper-focused on Spotify and YouTube videos and that stuff is absolutely important, but it leaves too many gains on the table. Let's use every tool in the box, okay?
Finally, I want to wrap up this post with gratitude:
I know I encourage you guys a lot to push yourselves and work hard, and I don't mean to come off as your taskmaster, but rather as a cheerleader.
We took a mostly Korean song with an insultingly low level of promo, plus no ads, no playlisting, no radio, only one version, with less than a full week to chart, which dropped during a major US holiday -- and it's very likely it will land on the Hot 100. That is...outstanding.
If nothing else, Jimin will see that he's loved and appreciated and we have his back. Whatever the assholes online try to say about vpn and bots and other bullshit, it was your blood, sweat, and tears that gave Jimin his well-deserved seat at an otherwise unwelcoming industry table. I'm so grateful to you and to this community for that.
We all know that Jimin is organic, authentic, and uniquely talented, and therefore isn't even in competition with anyone else. But we can still get him some good wins. What we do for him, we do out of love--not obligation or bragging rights. His music and his artistry are a source of JOY!
Tumblr media
WE ARE OFFICIALLY IN OUR MUSE ERA!
We have two weeks to study up and get premium accounts and gather all our energy to support a whole album. How lucky we are to be so well fed and loved.
FIGHTING!

For the record I don't think it's weird to download music or to do it from spotify. Myself, and I assume others, were mostly commenting on your poll only listing three music providers. All my favourite music is on YouTube and I've been subscribed under a family plan for a very long time! I do have some downloaded music I play with VLC but that's VERY secondary to YouTube Music.
The poll and the asking if I was weird were completely unrelated honestly, but yeah I should have remembered that pandora, Amazon music and YouTube exist

Just wondering, why isn’t Under the Apple Tree on pandora? It’s one of my favorite songs and I can’t go on yt anymore or Spotify TvT
Pandora is a weird streaming service because they don't always upload songs that you release to them. I don't have any control over it and it's such a small service in terms of where I get streams from, it's not worth trying to figure out why some songs are there and some aren't.
My music is on a lot of different sites other than youtube and spotify though: Apple Music, iTunes, Instagram/Facebook, TikTok, Amazon, Pandora, Deezer, Tidal, iHeartRadio, Claro Música, Saavn, Boomplay, Anghami, KKBox, NetEase, Tencent, Qobuz, Joox, Kuack Media, Yandex Music & MediaNet

Year-End Poll #67: 2016
Tumblr media
[Image description: a collage of photos of the 10 musicians and musical groups featured in this poll. In order from left to right, top to bottom: Justin Bieber, Drake, Rihanna, Twenty One Pilots, Desiigner, Adele, The Chainsmokers, Justin Timberlake, The Chainsmokers. End description]
More information about this blog here
We're now in 2016. A year that was at one point considered to be the worst in recent memory, a title that would only be surpassed by every year that came afterwards. But in terms of music, 2016 brought us a lot of heavy hitters. Anderson .Paak's Malibu, Rihanna's Anti, Frank Ocean's Blonde, Drake's Views, Beyoncé's Lemonade, and David Bowie's final album, Blackstar -- I would be here all day if I tried to list every release that came out this year.
But what's notable about this year of releases isn't just the albums themselves, but the music business landscape they were being released into. After the fall of physical media, the rise of music piracy in the MP3 era, and the popularity of digital storefronts, streaming services like Spotify seemed to be this great equalizer. This is an easier opinion to have if you forget that Spotify is a massive corporation, and if you're not an artist living off royalties. The controversy over streaming is nothing new. But this is when we start to see the landscape of streaming splintering.
Drake's Views and Beyoncé's Lemonade were not released to the wider streaming market, with exclusive releases on Apple Music and Tidal respectively. Much like the current debate over streaming services for movies and TV, listeners were suddenly finding themselves stretched thin between different streaming providers. Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Amazon Music, Pandora, YouTube, SoundCloud, and many others. This wasn't a new phenomenon (both SoundCloud and Pandora predate Spotify by almost a decade), but now we're seeing more platform-exclusive releases. Listeners responded in a variety of ways. Some people switched platforms or kept multiple subscriptions to different services. Some bought physical copies of exclusive releases and imported them into their preferred platform. Some just didn't listen to the releases. And others went right back to piracy, repeating the same problem the record industry had been trying to snuff out for several decades now. Platform-exclusive releases aren't that common anymore.
As far as the music itself goes, as the sound of electropop wanes in mainstream popularity, dance music is starting to incorporate influences from a variety of Caribbean styles of music, specifically dancehall as seen with Rihanna's Work and Drake's One Dance, and tropical house, as seen with Justin Bieber's Sorry and Sia's Cheap Thrills (not featured on poll). However, I do want to differentiate the two, because dancehall originated in Jamaica in the 1970's while tropical house is a relatively recent genre that incorporates stylistic elements of dancehall and other subgenres of house music.
When it comes to mainstream rap and hip-hop, trap music is continuing to dominate. With music platforms allowing artists easier access to distribution, a sub-sub genre sometimes known as SoundCloud rap started to find mainstream footing. Some people also call this style "mumble rap". I will not, because I find the term needlessly dismissive and kind of obnoxious. All of these rising genres put together helped to contribute to a musical landscape that was moody and generally at a slower tempo than the pop music of previous decades. It's often reductive to attribute popculture at the time to the current zeitgeist, but considering how today's poll features songs with titles like "Work" and "Stressed Out", it's too tempting not to.

Real talk, I...strongly dislike Tiktok but do distribute music there because yeah sure why not I guess.
Today was a fine day to look at my earnings breakdown and see that for almost 60K uses on Tiktok (a staggeringly large number for me), I got the princely sum of $.08 US. That's it. 8 cents. All platforms have ass pay, but that's still got to be among the worst.
(For context, 60K plays on Apple or Tidal pay enough for a small utility bill. 60K on Spotify, Pandora, or Amazon Music might cover some cheap groceries. Even Youtube Music, to my shock, pays something)
And mind you, Tiktok handles music royalties per video use, not plays. Those videos - whatever they hell they are (I'm not given links or other stats) - might be getting in the high millions of views, but I sure as hell don't get paid for them.

Tbh a lot of fans shouldn't be buying from ktown in the first place if you have your own country wide charts. Unfortunately ktown is the only place we can transparently get numbers from which is why we end up looking there.
It's like our issue with Spotify. Apple music, Amazon music (where available), Pandora (in the US) are all platforms we should focus on more because they're premium streams but we - both pjms and armys - are so hyperfocused on Spotify because we're used to always using it as our standardbearer for streams. If Jimin gets lower streams on spotify, everyone will panic in a way none of us move for apple music for example. Not blaming anyone because I do it too but if you look at the hot 100 placement of songs like Houdini (Eminem not dua), it's so dependent on premium streams especially from AM. Since we don't have much chance of getting Spotify playlisting anyway and Spotify premium is actually more expensive than AM in some places now, I hope we can do better on AM this time.
(Remember to delete your downloaded track from ITunes before streaming on am though everyone!)
You look at these rappers and very few of them actually have high album sales. Their numbers come almost purely from premium streams. And I know the rappers have more statewide reach, but we could still use them as an example. Premium streams would help boost for both hot 100 as well as BB200. Streams are one thing for sure we have over that group. We wouldn’t have to rely so much on sales especially when we know both HYBE and BB is unpredictable (BB actually re ran that chart and 5 artists who charted top 10 this week on bb200 lost sales). If we’re serious about topping, we really need to get on these premium platforms and start utilizing them more and consistently.

10/24/2023 - Horror! Target: Day 2
Ok. Let me just start by saying that it's about 6am Tuesday the 24th and I have not slept yet. I had a monster energy drink in the car left from when I went into work that I finished drinking around 10pm as well as some diet tea I randomly grabbed at wawa's on my way home so.... That aside, let me start with Target. I'm honestly amazed that I managed to make it through that shift. It was from 4 - 10 so 6 hours and I did feel that flight response coming a few times but I tried my best to keep my composure and just relax in the moment and carry through. I learned a lot and I think I'll get the hang of it all pretty quickly. Today is going to be intense but inshallah I'll get some sleep before hand. Secondly. I feel this new found obsession with music. I purchased themarsrevolver.com and I don't know.... I made dua to Allah and I just want to see where this goes. It feels tangible and real. When I listen to the music I've already created I'm truly in awe - especially the last 2 albums. My goal now - as in today - is to begin my journey in building a fanbase. I want feedback. I want as many ears on the face of the earth to hear this and I want to know what they think. I feel pretty confident in saying that I'm going to sign up for a DistroKid account and get the basic year setup. Spotify is the most popular streaming app so getting on there is definitely important. Then comes youtube music and youtube itself. Then there's all the other stuff like pandora, amazon, itunes, and most importantly instagram so that I can use my songs in the storys. Inshallah khayr. Finally - along with the whole distribution thing comes getting this new analytics system setup on the webpage so we can monitor how that goes. I also sent a message to the graphic designer that works down the street about working with an artist/musician and making shirts and sweaters and stuff. I want to sell merch. I need to keep designing!

Battle Plans for the next 4 days...
Guys, we're doing really, really well with only one version. But now is the time when lots of folks get back into work routines, or get complacent with their playlists due to fatigue.
We have GOT to buy from all stores, in addition to iTunes. And we need to BUY THE TRACKS SEPARATELY for BB200. If you need help with purchasing, JiminFunds is open. If you don't need help, please donate to JiminFunds.
If you order physicals online now, they will only ship in time for Week 2. So for now, you need to concentrate on either buying in person or digital sales. Don't neglect these stores, and remember that the BTS store has THREE DIGITAL ALBUM VERSIONS!
Tumblr media
We have also GOT to diversify streaming platforms in addition to Spotify. I get it's a tough economy, but free trial premium streams count and you can go make a free account right now on Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, Qobuz, Tidal and Pandora. We HAVE to use YouTube and YouTube Music. There's no way around it; it's necessary for charting. There's no reason not to take advantage of a free trial-- they remind you to cancel before you get charged!
Later on today we are going to get remixes and we MUST use them correctly. Stream the album top to bottom. Then the remixes. Use Face and other songs as filler. Switch accounts and keep going.
We also need to vote. This is the last chance for Jimin to get a Countdown trophy before they close up shop for the Olympics and, surprisingly, the competition is super high (because we don't have tons of versions). So every single vote matters now. Download the Mnet app and just take 1 minute out of your day to vote, please:
My friends, we've done so, so well with our enthusiasm and hard work. So much better than we thought possible. The general public has embraced Who on social media; top playlists are ranking it high in public lists; and even some radio stations are picking it up. Muse is doing so well that the company is actually gonna give us remixes and put in the effort.
Now is time to be focused and precise. No distractions. No bullshit. Stay sharp, puppykitties.
Discourse can come later. Right now, we have a real chance to make history for our boy.
Do it for Jimin.

SUGAR PIT
Tumblr media
Sugar Pit, located in (I believe) California, is an artist who seems to have a 1980's rock, indie-inspired look to music. The first song I ever heard by this artist was "Supply/Demand" which immediately captivated me. With the unique voice, I hadn't heard anything like it in a while.
His voice makes me think of a young adult breaking into a 1980s speakeasy and causing a scene on top of the bar tables with everyone looking at him like he's crazy before breaking out into a big party.
Sugar Pits unique style of wording and pronunciation makes him one-of-a-kind in the genre he's pursuing. I have no doubt others will find him just as fascinating. If you like Stranger Things, this artist could go on your playlist alongside artists like The Clash and Corey Hart.
Although he reminds me of The Clash and Corey Hart, that doesn't take from the modernness he's giving on the old-styled genres. It's refreshing, something new that dabbles in keeping its familiar feeling, something older and newer generations can love.
Although his songs on youtube don't have many views, I beckon you to look at them and see just how talented this artist is.
Link to newest release on Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube Music, Amazon Music, Tidal, Deezer, Pandora, Itunes, and Napster.

DJs and fans: 20 year DJ here Record Collector since the mid 80s and I'm starting to muse on AI algorithms and that mistakes might build brand?
DJs and fans: 20+ year DJ here, Record Collector since the mid 80s, and I'm starting to muse on AI, algorithms, and that mistakes might build brand? TL;DR - people are accustomed to flawless algorithms delivering music, and don't actually realize you're a human djing until you make a small error that makes them look up, and with empathy, realize you are there and actually a human curating music for them. anyone else experience this?----------------------------I am not condoning being a shite DJ. That's not my point. I'm not saying you should engineer in mistakes. But something I've been noticing lately...People passively consume music, and without effort or cratedigging are spoonfed beats by algorithm. The music is constant, "there", and in the background, a soundtrack to our lives as delivered by Spotify or Pandora, maybe Amazon Alexa or Google Home... and it's just churning out song after song. Some algorithms mix, even the ipod had a phasing between songs, where it'd poorly blend tracks so there wasn't a hard stop to beats. But people just "expect" the music to be there, and when out and about at a happy hour, in a bar or club, they just have the music as tapestry, and wouldn't pay attention to a DJ vs just having canned music. I mean, DJs for wedding are expensive, and there's a reason people are doing the calculus on the overall cost of a wedding and just making a joint romantic list of shared music to save on that part of the wedding cost. People are very comfortable ignoring personality vs music. As a long time DJ, I like this. I remember the Tonium Pacemaker in the late 00's, where you could even hook up a bluetooth receiver to the mixer, and the DJ could disappear into the crowd. I always like when it's about the music and not some idiot (like me) raising his hand over the mixer while twisting treble or pressing the flanger effect.I do understand there's a time and place for personality, like the Playa at 1am or a festival with some big name, etc. But I'm sort of a romantic and maybe I'm just not good enough to have an ego, but I don't pretend I'm a producer or making music, vs just playing other people's tracks.SO HERE IS THE POINT...In the last few years, my most flawless DJ sets (in SF... Off the Grid, Film Festivals, Bottle Rock Napa, my residency), people literally don't even know I'm there. However, on the off chance the floor is shaky or it's a rickety rig, or the needle gets bumped, or I just plain screw up... it's 100% *ALWAYS* a net positive. I'm a vinyl DJ, so I am not saying the CDJ freezes up or the sound goes out. I just mean a 1 second error....... and every time the crowd realizes I am a human. They realize I am curating the sound and not an algorithm, and even in the worst screw up (let's say 2 seconds or a real scratch / skip), it not only doesn't work against me, nor does the crowd turn against me.... they vibe empathy and feel respect that a human being exists out there, doing this "thing" for them. It's like an error actually makes people realize a human is there and DJing. Without it, there are 100% times where people come and go and have zero idea it's a human, because it's just about the wallpaper or tapestry of sound and vibe to accompany their lives vs being about Tiesto or Diplo. So that's a lot to say, and ask... anyone else ever notice this in the modern day? Any long time DJs notice the way people are consuming you now vs then, and notice the crowd sort of comes alive, and to your defense, when they realize you're actually a human DJing, vs passively not paying attention to a superb set that is totally flawless? 5SOS5 Streaming Playlists
here's a playlist for streaming 5SOS5 (will be updated as singles release/when i make more playlists - last updated for BLENDER)
i made one for spotify and one for amazon music (they have the same songs except for take my hand joshua tree version since it was never on amazon music but even though it was removed from spotify a few hours after it's release it's still in the playlist). if you have apple music feel free to make a playlist and send me the link!
don't loop (unless the playlist is in blue; those services don't let you add a song to a playlist more than once) or mute, and play in order. streaming from paid services or buying the songs count more on the charts. i like to have it play on my laptop, plug in my headphones, and have it at a low volume :)
tidal
youtube music or just youtube
soundcloud
pandora
deezer
