with this admission, however, her mind quieted just a bit. it was almost as if she'd unburdened herself of something heavy, like she'd opened a door that had been long closed. grey eyes flit open amongst the sensations around her navel; a decision made — a want to fulfill. slowly, haru sits up, reaching down to gently but decisively tilt the other's chin up to redirect his attention. leading him upward she leans in, reversing their positions as she slides on top of him. the alarms continued to steadily die out as she continued forward, a more visible hunger about her now as she pressed her lips to his.

there was a fervor about the kiss as she further surrendered herself to her feelings, one hand cupping his cheek as she nipped at his lower lip. dragging her lips across his jaw now, she peppered him up and down with kisses. and as she further entangled her body with his own, her mind finally fell silent, save only for the need steadily burning within her. she wanted him, and wanted him to want her — to have her.

if there had been any doubt about her feelings, it would fully disappear by the end of the night.

Couple's (questionable) Halloween Costumes ft. Tokyo Debunker

I just got back from an event and had some thoughts idk. This is not in any particular order, just whoever came to mind first.

Towa- Bee and Beekeeper. His chibi is already a bee, he'd probably find it cute to see you dressed up like one too. Haru is the one who suggests his jumpsuit already looks a bit like a beekeeper suit, all he'd need to do is get a hat. Towa loves romance, so he'd probably be one of the only ghouls actually interested in dressing up with you 10/10.

Sho- Mario and Princess Peach, except he's the princess because he made the mistake of telling you that Leo always makes him be the girl. You really want to play this game, senpai? Fine. He'll hate every second of it but it is just the littlest bit worth it to see you squirm at how good he looks in a dress. Somewhat. He'd rather make you squirm someway else ???/10

Luca- Jedidiah and Octavius (from night at the museum). He sort of ruins it because he doesn't understand the reference and spends the night talking at length about Roman history. Which is nice if you are into that but extremely boring if not 6/10.

Kaito- Ketchup and Mustard. He also sort of ruins it; doing something this classically coupley with you makes him delirious with happiness and he has a stroke before you can make your way to the party. Salvages the night by baking Halloween themed cupcakes, you have a nice little date decorating them and no one has to see you two embarrass yourselves in public 7/10.

Haru- Cow and the Moon. He... does not have the best fashion sense if his cards are anything to go by, and hey this cow costume he got for (insert total rip off price here) will totally help him promote the back to nature tour! You dressing up as the moon was supposed to be a cute gimmick thing to play off the old nursery rhyme, he wasn't expecting you to put together such an ethereal outfit. Completely forgets about promoting the tour in favor of being cute with you all night, he's totally willing to do this again 9/10 (don't let him choose the costumes next time).

Rui- Moth and Lamp. He wants to do Gomez and Morticia, but the torture of not being able to touch you is already too much to bear as is, he isn't about to make it worse for himself. This way he can still be free to tend bar and make a bunch of cheesy "jokes" about you being the light of his life. Moths sort of fit the Obscuary theme anyway so it's a perfect costume, 10/10.

Haku- Howl and Sofie. He wants a costume that will give him an excuse to flirt with you and will make it very very clear just who you are leaving this party with. Haku probably thinks he'd look really good in Howl's outfit and you know what? He's right. Just remember to take him seriously when he offers his help removing your clothes this time, inspector 10/10.

Taiga- Ghostface. For exactly the reasons you think kitten don't even bother picking out a costume [redacted]/10.

I want to take a moment to try to express why i appreciate Haru's sadism as an actual serious part of her characterization and not just a funny contrast joke and 'yay girl violence!' don't get me wrong i love me some yay girl violence for the sake of it, but like. i think there's a lot to work with there for genuine drama writing, too, not just comic relief and i want to talk about it! (cw sugimura)

for all of haru's backstory and her life with her father, sure she's rich and has a lot of privileges, but the one thing she completely lacks is any sort of control. Everything about her life is being decided for her, her father has decided on the shape of her entire future, and she can't do anything to change it - she's being raised just for the sake of being outright sold as a sex slave trophy wife to a perverted creep who is certainly too rich and powerful to ever face legal trouble for marital rape. She's going through the motions, enjoying what she can of the life she has while she still has it, completely hopeless in the face of this horrifying future that other people are forcing her into. Her will means nothing, what she wants means nothing.

And then the Phantom Thieves come along, and they give her the power to make her will matter, to fight for her own freedom and happiness. And that power comes in the shape of violence, physically fighting images of all the things and people standing in her way.

But more than that, she starts to feel 'shivers of excitement' when she hears shadows begging and pleading beneath her. She feels what it's like to have something absolutely, pathetically desperate to make her stop, to deny her what she wants - and to bask in the feeling that she doesn't have to listen, she's the strong one, she can shut them the fuck up with an axe through the skull because their will, their selfish desire, their plan for her doesn't matter anymore, her will, Haru's will matters. It's catharsis, it's intoxicating, it's a rich and indulgent feeling of real actual control and the freedom that comes with it, something she's been denied all her life, and it's probably an unhealthy way to get that feeling but who cares? these are just shadows!

And that catharsis and relief and self-assured confidence she gets from that just makes her better able to be her sweetest, kindest, purest self around the people she loves! It doesn't undermine the sweet person she is, it helps it!

And then, she makes the choice to try to cure her father's brain-rotting greed and see if there's anything worth salvaging in his heart. It might not be the best choice, it could certainly be argued about, but it's her choice, it's her will, and she finally, finally feels like she's able to make that mean something-

and Akechi takes the choice away from her, and forces her to live in the future he decided for her.

I think when people write the dynamic between Akechi and Haru, they can sometimes miss the forest for the trees - 'you killed my father', without the underlying 'this was the first time i believed i ever had a choice in my own life, and you took it away from me and fucking crushed it before my eyes'. I've also seen it done very well too, and I love it! but i think a lot of writers are sleeping on the potential a bit, of haru & akechi focused stories, or even of haru as a source of drama and an interesting supporting character in shuake stories. In general, haru's potential for anger, frustration, violent desires and just a need to feel in control of her own life has a lot of potential in drama writing!

Atlus certainly dropped the ball on the akechi and haru dynamic, and kept the sadism thing as mostly comic relief, but Persona canons are all half-realized outlines of good ideas just begging for fic writers to come and actually flesh them out, anyway, so ah well!

all i hope for is that if you're a persona writer that doesn't know what to do with haru or how to use her, or doesn't pay her much mind, maybe this might inspire you or give you a clearer idea of how to write her dramatic side!

not that you mind ig??? poor guy looks tired after those overnight shifts so you kinda just let him as long as he lets you grab a book or something to read while he’s out

another snuggler for the books. he’s so warm, logan runs so warm so it’s great in the winter but not so much in the summer months

he usually is big spoon because let’s be real, that man is 6’8 there’s a very small chance that you would be able to spoon him comfortably if you’re significantly smaller than him (which unfortunately i am)

same thing applies with his clothes, he will usually sleep in boxers only because pajama pants are not made for people his size

he will ask to be physically affectionate with you. he sleeps with plenty of space between y’all. he will only hold your hand in your sleep

So, things start much earlier. The one running the scene in the bad guy sense is Kaneshiro, and he takes care of anyone investigating him. Which includes taking out two investigators about to blow things wide open.

He goes to their private office, threatens them to back off, and they don't. On the way out, he's seen, heard making his threats. Makoto is ten when she watches him walk away. She's ten when her parents drive off the road later that night. She's ten when she's separated from her older sister by adoptive parents who couldn't care less about her, only took her in cause of the money they'd get

Makoto doesn't hear from her sister for years. She believes the whole time that Sae didn't wanna have anything to do with her. She keeps her head down, does as she's told. Until, she gets caught breaking one of the house rules. She kisses a girl.

So, she's accused of stealing money from her adoptive parents, and they throw her out. Luckily, they don't actually file charges against her. But, she's 15, and with nowhere. Until she's told she's being sent to Tokyo, cause she's going to live with her older sister

Sae Takemi, as she's known now, is a Criminal Investigator like their parents were. She's married to a doctor, Tae, and they've recently adopted a son. Morgana. She's missed her sister all this time, tried to call and send letters, but of course it was all blocked or burned

Makoto lives in the main house in this au, and Morgana as the Hermit is introduced from the start. As many of them as possible are, but that's semantics. Makoto lives in the basement, so she has her own space away to get used to things, and she adjusts to being allowed to be a teenager

She's less ostracised than Joker was. But, rumours start coming around. That she reason she's in Tokyo was cause her adoptive parents didn't want her anymore. Lies about how her sister only took her in cause she had to. Add on the fact that she shows up quiet, with her head down? Yeah. She's not really popular

(everyone is a year younger here so I can have Makoto and crew be in second year cause I want to)

Anyways. On her walk to her first day, she spots a girl. A kind of sad look to her, standing with an umbrella. And Makoto just stands there getting soaked in the rain, and maybe feeling a little gay, and before the other girl can say something, a car pulls up

It's Shido, a boy in his passenger seat. He greets the girl, Haru Okumura, and kicks his son out of the car so he can give her a ride

And that's how Makoto meets Goro. He scowls at the car driving off, curses out his perverted father, and they walk together. But they get sidetracked when they pass the local gov building two streets from the school

PALACE ONE IS SHIDO

He's using internships with Shujin to get at young girls. Keeps Goro there as an assistant to do dirty work in exchange for supporting his mom. Haru is only there cause her dad wants her to help the business from the gov side

Magician is Futaba. She's in the Metaverse kinda like Sophie I'll figure it out

After the first palace the gang all change up their school uniforms a bit. They all were proper before, because two of them were in political internships and one of them didn't want to do anything to draw attention

Goro adds a vest of some sort. Not uniform, and dark red. Haru gets like themed socks? Maybe kitty socks, something else that's kinda cute maybe. Makoto has a hoodie on under her blazer, dark blue and black. Also, pants.

He's a first year at Kosei, and he's been working with the track team and they're improving so Kamoshida starts taking the credit for it. Says if Ryuji says anything, his scholarship will go away

Then, idk who the palace ruler for 3 will be but the Priestess is Ren. He and his brother, Akira, are twin former child actors at Shujin, and are now trying to live normally. Says Ren, at least. Ren is the quieter twin, whereas Akira is snarky and known to be trouble in a kind of flirty, fun way

Ren, Akira, and Makoto are all members of Student Council together, so that's how they're shown earlier.

Hermit Palace is Morgana, it's like a cursed mausoleum, cause he thinks he curses those around him. Thinks he's responsible for the death of his parents, and for the misfortune he sees happening to his new moms, Sae and Tae

He's 10, as old as Makoto was when her life fell apart. So, she really feels for him. He's been silent since they met, withdrawn, all sad and shit. He doesn't go to school regularly either, and Sae and Tae mention to Makoto that he's nervous about a lot of things. That he sees the same therapist they have her going to as well

I hope you're ready for an info dump because I have a lot of thoughts about class 79!

Ships... the age old question...

I'm honestly not the kind of person who gets heavily invested into a lot of ships. That being said, I do enjoy them a lot, especially when it involves a cast I am as attached to as class 79! And one of those handful of ships I am highly invested in is a DRA ship, lol. (It's Kinjomae... and to be honest, a really big part of my DRA special interest is filled by those two characters, and Utsuro, in general if not together)

Kinjo and Yuki tend to end up being with central roles in most of my DRA related thoughts, art, and writing, it just kind of sneaks in, regardless, somewhere.

I like interpreting them in a queer platonic or more ace-leaning relationship as well. Not always, but I've made a habit of it. So yeah they're going to have a relationship of some sort in this au too.

To specify, I am referring to DRA1 Yuki; I don't really ship the real Yuki and Tsurugi together. To me, they are two very distinct characters with different personalities from each other despite their similarities, not just memories... I won't get into all that (a post for another day perhaps) but in context of Kinjomae, only one of them is his Yuki, who knows and cares for him.

Exploring the relationship between Tsurugi and (actual) Yuki Maeda is still super interesting though, and I can understand why people ship it, there's loads of interesting places to go with it.

Also, I'm the kind of fan who can be swayed to accept almost any pairing or headcanon, especially in the context of the respective work (art/writing, etc) I really think it's possible to execute pretty much anything in a convincing manner if done well, and that applies to ships and stuff. Are there some ships and/or headcanons that give me the ick? Yup. Are there some I just don't like? Yeah. It just takes a lot for me to really get to a level where I hate something.

Uh, let's see... there are a few other ships I tend to immediately think of, even if I'm not as invested!

Ayame/Akane (may or may not be teased or explored in the pony au)

Satsuki/Haru (they'll probably be canon, I mean... it's satsuki and haru)

Rei/Teruya (I love their dynamic, regardless of the type of relationship they have)

Utsuro/Akane (they are super fascinating and it would feel remiss not to include this one in some manner)

I'm not sure yet what I'll do in this AU with everyone, we'll see. Including friend groups: I want to make more 'mane 6' type groups from the rest of the cast but I haven't finalized any of them besides the main one yet.

That's one of the things that makes me love class 79 so much; they feel very real to me, individually and how they all interact with each other. I'm invested in them as a group, and in all the little friendships and groups within the class. So I might spend more time thinking about them in terms of friendships and other relationships than pairings, except for Kinjo and Yuki of course.

My favorites of those are:

My least favorites are Mitch and Kizuna, though. I don't dislike them, but Kizuna in particular I am really neutral toward compared to everyone else.

I feel like I just... don't have a grasp on what kind of character she is at all? Her story in the game combined with her FTEs left me pretty conflicted about her. It feels like there were many opportunities to give more insight into her, but none of them worked for me.

I mean, we get to meet her mom, and even that didn't give me any more insight into her childhood or personality at all... which is kind of hard to ignore when the time we spend (or being told about via FTES) with Ando, Keisuke, Ryutaro, and Midori all give their respective family members more context and anchors we didn't have before. Plus the tiniest whiff of Juu we get speaks volumes for Tsurugi's upbringing, it is very easy to fill in the blanks.

As much as it is a tradition to hate on Mitch, I don't really hate him as a character: he works perfectly well for the kind of role he's meant to fill, (I mean, he's designed to be a case 1 killer first and foremost) and personally, I find it a lot easier to add layers to him than Kizuna because he has a base I can wrap my head around, unlike Kizuna, even if it is a really simple one.

Could we get please some headcanons about Ann and Haru with a s/o that no one thinks is her s/o and how the girls would react and deal with it? Like everyone, especially strangers as well as other models and high society folks, always think s/o is just a friend, family member, assistant, pity date, someone they pay to keep away suitors, etc. That they just don't think that a super model or rich heiress would date someone as average as her s/o?

Well I guess this ask was bound to hit me eventually, this took WAY too fucking long. This was frankly much harder to do than I was expecting but here's hoping this is even at least somewhat as good as the relationship HCs.

Ann Takamaki

-This sort of situation would happen in a couple ways. If word gets out about your relationship at Shujin rumors quickly start that she was pretending to date you to make you feel better. And when you eventually start going to her photoshoots people start catching wind of it a lot of assumptions are made. You're a family member, friend, assistant, the whole shebang.

-At first you try not to let Ann know about this. You don't wanna add even more to her list of things to worry about, there's more important things she needs to be working on.

-Try as you might though, you can't hide it from her forever. Eventually at a photoshoot you end up accidentally looking a bit more...off than you intend to and she catches on.

-After gently prodding for the answer she eventually finds out. And oh boy, she is not happy. She will clear up those rumors if it's the last thing she does.

-From that point on, she makes a point to be extra affectionate in public. Whatever doubts people have about her actually loving you she will ward off with everything she has.

-If she ever kisses you in public and someone thinks she's practice kissing on a friend for an actual date there will be blood if you don't stop her.

Haru Okumura

-It first happens when Haru invites you to a gala organized by Okumura Foods. You were rather hesitant to go at first since you weren't filthy rich, but against those eyes, you couldn't find it in you to say no.

-Against your better judgment, you dressed the best you could and showed up as Haru's plus one. The sheer size and glamor of the whole place takes you aback and you immediately start feeling self-conscious.

-It unfortunately doesn't get any better. You hear murmurs behind your back that people are starting to think that you're just some rental date Haru had hired to keep people away from making moves. It's not a completely misplaced sentiment considering what happened with Sugimura, but going from the son of a well-known politician to a seemingly completely average person only added fuel to the fire.

-This only makes you more and more dejected as the evening went on. Haru picked up on this pretty quickly. After some gentle prodding, you spilled the beans to her.

-She very quickly took you somewhere outside the immediate party area and gave you a soft but stern talking to. Frankly she feels a little insulted deep down that you'd let a bunch of other people's opinions of you sway your thoughts about how she felt about you.

-It's the old reassurance of love pep talk. A bit cheesy to be sure, but coming from Haru, something about her made it really seem like she meant it.

-You two eventually go back to the party with everyone else, and this time, Haru has much less inhibitions about showing those crusty old men that you're more than just a pity/hired date. Everyone's going to walk away knowing that you're the real deal as long as she has something to say about it.

Both of the premises of Ouran and RFA are to appease people (Ouran is more female oriented tho). They both solely exist for the sake of providing happiness to others and stuff.

I think Jumin and Kyoya are quite similar. So I could totally see them discussing business plans with their fathers and shit like that haha then maybe Jumin could ask about Ouran Academy and what curriculars they have (for advertising?? idk lol) and then Kyoya mentions subtly about helping people in the Host Club.

So then maybe the Host Club decides to sponsor RFA and thus begins their journey 2gether!!!

I kinda suck at these types of things but the fun part is when the characters MEET TOGETHER!!!

Jumin and Kyoya as mentioned earlier are already cooperating with their respective businesses and stuff. I don't think either of them would open up or anything, but they're kind of similar in a way? Straight to the point, communicative in ideas and mostly likes to start new projects ehe >_<

Tamaki and ZEN would be a good duo as well, with Zen actually attracting more customers to the Host Club which makes Tamaki feel that their purpose is being successful!!! They would talk about entertaining people (and how grateful it makes them feel to keep their fans happy). They'd be blabbering about how beauty is important etc. etc.

JAEHEE AND HARUHI I'VE BEEN WANTING TO TALK ABOUT THEM FOR SO LONG AHHHH. Ok ok THEY'RE SO SIMILAR DOWN TO THEIR PERSONALITY, THEIR PATIENCE, THEIR DEDICATION *AND* also did I mention they look super similar to LIKE THE HAIR RAHHH!! But ahemm... Anyways. I can see Yoosung asking help from Honey (despite their age difference lol) since the maturity levels kind of differ. (I'm not very well versed in Honey's personality so plz forgive me T_T)

I find the idea of Ren being a pervert so nice bc he seems like the least likely at plain sight to be like that, a few times he invited them over to watch movies after working in Jabberwock hoping that you leave something behind and more times than he wants to admit he came to the fantasy of you sitting on his face

And who's not gonna believe that the loser loner sexually harassed somebody? He'd get in trouble right away! And with all your connections the last things he needs are members of every house hunting him down. Including his own. He can't hide forever. Nah, he'll keep it in his head. He'll imagine groping you in the dark during movies and sleepovers and acting like some anomaly snuck in and did it if you ask. Try and peek at you in the shower when you stay over--or, think about it anyway because somehow Haru or Towa would definitely stop him. If you stay over or get messy while helping out again, they'll take care of the laundry here, he'll let you borrow his clothes again, and if your underwear occasionally go missing well. . .that happens with laundry sometimes, right? Could I ask for your opinion in beastars?

Ok so my opinion on Beastars is more complicated than I let on really. I LOVE this stupid series but not because I think it's well written. On the contrary, I think it's got one of the most confused plots ever written and it mostly flounders around aimlessly jumping from one thing to another until something clicks.

But the worldbuilding and characters carry it.

I've mentioned my love for Beastars' worldbuilding before but failed to elaborate. Something I love about Beastars is while it takes a little inspiration from real-life animals it really does not give a shit about realism and prefers interesting concepts to put the characters in all kinds of shitty situations. Paru Itagaki does not care about your zoology degree, she said "wouldn't this stuff be fucked up" and put it in her talking animal show. And I think that's awesome. While I do like realistic worldbuilding sometimes there's something really magical about seeing a society so alien yet so similar to ours through the lens of non-humans, and really pushing it to its limits without caring about real-life rules.

And this unrealistic-yet-relatable vibe seeps into the characters as well and makes for incredible allegories. For example, if Haru and Legoshi were human the story wouldn't work because it would just be a regular heterosexual love story. But because she's a rabbit and he's a wolf every other character reacts by saying "Ewwww look at this fucking FREAK he's a WOLF and he likes RABBITS? That's so gross keep your fetishes to yourself you pervert. Why don't you get yourself a normal CANINE girlfriend instead and stop being disgusting???"

Romance is a big part of the series but really these kinds of reactions are woven into every interaction the characters have with their environment. Carnivores have to constantly fight the urge to eat meat, herbivores have to live in fear of being devoured in a frenzy, venomous animals have to live with the fact they'll never be able to physically connect with non-venomous animals because they might kill them, hybrids have to deal with all sorts of discrimination and medical problems. And I haven't even mentioned the Black Market and how freaking important it is to the basic functioning of society. Every character has a different relationship with these things depending on their species but also on their personality, how much they care about status, what kind of relationships they have etc. It really is the "put blorbo in bizzarre situations and shake them around like a bug in a jar" show.

Anyway it's definitely not for everyone. If it's not your kind of thing you're probably gonna walk away confused and frustrated lol, but it feels like it caters specifically to the kind of niche stuff I like so I don't really care :3

I think Haru would be OK with casually hooking up, but the sex would be a lot less playful?  You're doing this to de-stress and don't have a lot of time so no need to do anything extreme. It still feels good, Haru would hate to leave you unsatisfied, but there's a lot less experimentation and he doesn't laugh or crack jokes like he would with a long time partner. There is also the prosthetic to consider; if he has one I don't think he'd want to get fully undressed with someone he's just hooking up with.  What happened to his arm is a sore spot even if he acts like it's not, so he doesn't really want to talk about it in a fwb situation even if you are close friends.  That's not to say that he would never tell you about the prosthetic and the story behind it, it's just not something he wants brought up during casual sex. If he doesn't have a prosthetic then I don't see him having any insecurities about taking his clothes off with a casual partner, though he probably still ends up staying half dressed just to save time.

If you're dating and he has a prosthetic arm, Haru still needs to work up the courage to take off all his clothes even though he really really wants to. Part of him is afraid you'll think he's broken or ugly, he doesn't think of himself that way but it would really hurt if you did. Praise isn't so much one of his kinks as it is a key part of his personality, he wants you to know that he's with you because he is attracted to you and he loves you. He wants you to say it back to him, needs it really; please tell him how in love you are and how attractive you find him. Want him as much as he wants you and watch how much he gets off on your need.

Loud whiner Haru is so real, he knows he can be loud he's just not ashamed of it at all. He's seen those posts about it being sexy when men moan and he already thinks he's a total catch, that just solidifies it. It ties into his praise kink, he's super sweet during foreplay but he almost always loses the ability to speak once you start fucking, so to let you know how good you are making him feel he just has to make some noise. He only really cries if he's had a really bad day or you've been away for a long time, he missed you ˙◠˙ so let him hold you as close as physically possible.

He's stupid easy to turn on. Laugh at his jokes, pull him around by his tie, even smiling at him will get him hard if he stares at you long enough. The fastest way to get him up is to wear his clothes, it's not smart for an inspector to declare a house allegiance but you will be literally cold before you stop wearing your boyfriend's jacket and he loves seeing you tie yourself to him. It can be sort of hard to tell when he's horny unless he outright tells you because he can hold onto those thoughts for a scarily long amount of time. He'll see you snuggling his shirt while he's on his way out the door to milk the cow and think about that all day until you're done with classes and he can have you to himself. This also means he's really easy to tease, do anything mildly suggestive, he'll start whining and won't even punish you for it later. Unless you want him to of course.

Haru is very big on service, he wants to be the one giving you pleasure but he's not picky on how he does that.  If it’s something you're interested in he's willing to try it at least once, but I can't see him being into harder bdsm/kink mostly because it takes too much time to set up.  He's been busy and away from you all day, he doesn't want to wait to fuck you.  Same with roleplaying, he gets the appeal but it's a lot of work especially if you want to bring costumes or cosplay into it.  He also kind of sucks at roleplay, he really likes making you laugh so he accidentally turns things into a joke. It doesn't turn him off at all, but he understands that's not really what you were going for so it might ruin the mood. His one hard no is anything that could injure either of you, he doesn't like seeing you hurt or worrying you when he's hurt.

Or so he says, but if you sit on his face and break his neck he's not going to learn a single lesson from it and will brag about it to Rui and Romeo.  He probably brags about a lot of things once he gets drunk actually, in the off chance you were wondering why Romeo isn't making eye contact with you anymore. Everyone in Darkwick knows you rode Haru's face like a bicycle seat and that he wants you to do it again, he has enough sense to know he maybe should pretend to have some shame but he can't bring himself to do it. You want him to be ashamed of making you scream that loud? Please it's not happening he loves you too much. Day 4: Superheroes

A/N: Welp it looks like I got my days mixed up and am running a day late, but no fear! This is for day 4 of this year's TCR birthday bash, superheroes. I thought I'd go with something more lighthearted today, so here is a little ficlet regarding a different way the cat kingdom could have tried to thank Haru :D

"We have decided," said the cat on Haru's windowsill, "that you must be thanked appropriately for saving Prince Lune."

"Uh-huh," Haru said. What she really wanted to say was something like, "I'm dreaming, right?" or "Excuse me, do you know you're a cat?" or even "AAHHHH" coupled with violently swinging a chair – but cats who could talk probably could do other things they weren't meant to, and she didn't want to find out if that included curses.

"Given the magnitude of our debt, the King has decreed that we shall do everything in our power to make you happy," the cat continued, oblivious to Haru weighing up the pros and cons of punting it off a first floor window. "For instance, our research has indicated that humans your age tend to struggle with low confidence, body image, and preoccupation with finding a mate."

"Uh-huh," Haru said again, for entirely different reasons.

"So, to show our gratitude, we have eliminated such problems!"

Haru stared. "...How?"

"Come to a mirror, and I'll show you!"

This had to be a dream. But now Haru was curious to see what her sleeping mind would conjure up in her reflection. She fumbled for her phone and switched on the camera. Maybe her skin would now be porcelain smooth. Maybe her hair would look effortlessly perfect. Maybe she would see entirely a different face.

She was disappointed when there appeared to be nothing changed. "Okay, cat, I'm looking."

"Open your mouth!"

She gave the cat a dubious side-eye, but did so. A maw lined with sharp feline teeth filled the picture.

Haru snapped her mouth shut.

"Do you like it?" the cat asked, with a tone that indicated this was a rhetorical question and that she could start thanking it any time now.

"You gave me fangs??"

"Canines! Fangs have venom!"

"Is that really what's importa–" She felt wood chips beneath her nails and quickly withdrew her hand from her desk. "And claws? What did you do to me?"

"We gave you the ideal body!" the cat announced.

"You gave me claws!"

"Claws are attractive! They're far better than those blunt little stumps you call nails! This way you can prove your hunting prowess and win a mate!"

"You think I'm gonna get a boyfriend because I can catch mice now?"

"Oh, Miss Haru, at your size you should set your sights on much bigger prey! Squirrels and rats, at least! Our research also indicated you were frustrated with your lack of balance–"

"This feels needlessly personal."

"–so we gave you feline grace!"

"Wait," Haru said as she realised the other insinuation of the cat's comment, "have you been watching me?"

"Yes!"

"Oh." Haru blinked. She'd expected at least a little guilt in the admission.

"If this is not sufficient thanks, I'm sure we can find other ways to improve your life–"

"No! I mean, no thank you. This is..." easy enough to hide. "This is fine. You don't need to thank me any more." This was not fine. This was so far over the line of 'fine' that it was a dot on the horizon.

"Are you sure? There was some debate over the inclusion of a tail..."

"I'm good."

"–at least on a permanent basis."

"What?"

"Don't worry, we realised that a persistant tail would require a strain on your wardrobe–"

"What does that–"

"–so we decided that you should get the best of both worlds and have it only when needed!"

A beat passed. A herd of questions hoofed through her mind. "And... the wardrobe problem?" she hazarded at last.

The cat waved a breezy paw. "Oh, don't worry about that! We've sorted it out."

Haru's mouth formed the word 'how' and then her mind thought better of it. "I don't suppose I could convince you to take it all back, could I?" she tried instead.

The cat's mouth wobbled. "You don't like it?"

Well darn it. Now she felt bad. "No, of course I like it!" she lied. "I just don't think I really need it. Or deserve it. I mean, I just acted without thinking, I wasn't being brave."

"Oh." The cat blinked, and the watery look vanished immediately. "Oh," it said again, with far too much assurance, "this is one of those adolescent lack of confidence things, isn't it?"

"I – no?"

"You don't think you're worthy of such a gift because you don't believe in yourself!" the cat proclaimed, with all the confidence of someone adding one plus one and getting three. It patted Haru's hand. "Don't worry, the whole cat kingdom has agreed that you earned this, so enjoy it! Oh, and before I forget..." With a flourish, the cat whipped a little velvet box out of thin air. "The final part to your reward."

Despite all her misgivings, Haru took the box and cautiously opened it. A beautiful silver necklace with a shimmering cat charm rested inside, its single visible eye carved out of a golden-brown gemstone. (Tiger eye, she suspected.)

"It's... lovely," she stuttered. "But I can't accept–"

"You can and you will! Goodbye!" And before Haru could fumble for any other excuses, the cat had leapt out of the window, Haru still holding the box. After a dubious moment passed, she gingerly put the necklace on. (After all, it was gorgeous. It would be a waste not to wear it.) Then she picked up the phone and was halfway through dialling Hiromi, when she hesitated.

Just what was she going to say?

Yeah, so you know the cat I saved yesterday, well it turns out it was a prince...

Look, when you see me, don't make a fuss over my teeth or my claws...

So it looks like cats are trying to help my love life...

She put the phone down. No, best to just not mention it and hope no one noticed. After all, who would jump to the conclusion that they were blessings from a cat and not just a figment of the imagination? Haru barely believed it, and her windowsill was still warm from where the cat had sat.

Then, because it was a Tuesday morning and school didn't accept sick notes for 'my entire physiology was altered by cats in the night' she dragged herself out of bed and prepared herself for the day.

It was just as she was finishing changing into her uniform that the giant rat stampeded past her front door. (Haru was fairly sure that 'stampede' was the right word for, even if it was only a single beast, it did have half a dozen feet.)

Since this wasn't an acceptable thing to see, not even on a gloomy Tuesday schoolday, Haru naturally leant of her window out to better see the chaos. She vaguely wondered if she should call the police – but rather suspected that things like rampaging rats taller than a bungaloo were probably already on the police's radar.

What were police even meant to do about unnatural megafauna? Build a giant mousetrap? Ask it politely to turn itself in? This kind of shenanigan, Haru thought, probably weren't covered in training.

Really, she continued to think, this kind of shenanigan was more the territory of comic book heroes or magical girl responsibilities.

It was as that exact thought struck, that Haru became engulfed in golden light. She felt her form shift, her hair change, and most notably, her clothes alter.

I've literally just gotten ready for school, she thought, and then she was deposited back on the floor. She looked down at herself.

What she was now wearing could best be described as a marriage between a leopard-print leotard and her school uniform. There were bows. There were ribbons. There was a sparkly tutu (and a pair of shorts, much to Haru's relief).

And, as she moved to sit down in disbelief, she discovered there was – emerging from perfectly-tailored shorts and tutu – a tail.

"Well," she said eventually, "I guess that does solve the wardrobe problem."

A/N: Gee, some of you may be thinking, it sure is serendipitous/a coincidence that the same day Haru gets 'superpowers' there appears a monster! Well, I'm here to tell you that it's less happenstance, and more like the truck driver who nearly ran over Lune is having the worst Tuesday of his life. (Don't worry, he gets transformed back with only an increase in cheese preference and a fun day explaining to his boss why he didn't turn up for work.) A quick history lesson to preface this! (Which I had to google, these fox idiots and fan fics involving them have me googling so much lately)

While Christmas first appeared in Japan in the 16th century, it wasn't widely celebrated until the Meiji Era (1868-1912)

If we take their release date as the canon date for things (so they got foxified 200 years prior to their release) that means they got turned into foxes around 1823, aka the Edo Period

So yeah, they have been foxes for the whole of christmas being a major/regular thing in japan and also being kitsune probably did not even celebrate it cause it might be competition???? (would they bro out with Jesus or try and fist fight him in a parking lot?????? surely not on the dude's birthday! No one is that cruel)

but yeah, it's safe to say their christmas this year (or maybe in 2023 cause they WERE released on December 5th, how quickly did you unfox them??) with you is like---- their first christmas EVER

he doesn't hate it or anything but he does see it as humans doing kooky human things

it's different but it could be fun!

and it is fun actually

he tries fried chicken for the first time

well, okay--- yakitori exists but my understanding is that that's more grilled, and tempura exists but that's sort of different to like------- KFC style deep fried shit

he likes it fine

lil greasy for his taste but it's nice for a treat

but yeah it's mostly just a pleasant little date, you and him just kinda enjoying the sights and sounds together in this new world that he refused to partake in for so long

and it def ends with a christmas cake
