with a weak acid until dissolved in a warm water bath, then enough naoh to make it basic and then doing a liquid-liquid extraction, precipitating him back out, and recrystallizing him, checking that the process went alright via tlc and melting point

#wish there was an excuse to reflux him but i don’t think it’s called for #i don’t have specific solvents i wanna start w benzoic acid #but i don’t remember ochem enough to know what’s next #hexanes and/or etoac for the extraction i think #recrystalization solvent depends on if he ends up in the organic or aqueous layer #for aqueous i can just use water and if organic then probably ethyl acetate #seems like we used that a lot in lab #recrystallizing in a round bottom flask btw #and a sand bath #drying by vacuum filtration #tlc solvent uhhh 50/50 etoac and hexanes #don’t know if he’s uv active but i have some iodine just in case #i should probably do comparative tlc huh #yeah. i’ll do that w the unrecrystallized organic(?) layer and the final product #cool. fitz kreiner lab procedure complete. or at least a draft of it
