I've had family members die horribly because doctors decided they were "Attention seeking" "Hypercondriacs" "Fat." "Drug seeking" and so on. My grandmother rarely ever sought out medical treatment because she was an lpn and knew how to take care of minor injuries herself. Her daughters were RNs, one of which worked in the local ICU ward at our local hospital. If she was worried she would ask them for advice. When she started showing symptoms of cancer she started looking for help. She was turned down for years.
They only took her seriously once she hit stage 4
A month later she was dead.
Many of my family members came close to death including my own mother. Whe had massive cysts on her ovaries that nearly took her and me out at the same time.(This was also during the time they were telling her that I was a tubal pregnancy...I was not.)
I spent years trying to be taken seriously for my pain, when I finally got a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia the doctor treating me retired. Her replacement let me know she believed Fibromyalgia wasn't real and that I was "Stealing appointments from people who really needed them." She lied and said Rheumatology doesn't treat Fibromyalgia. (They are the only doctors who can treat it) She then told me not to come back.
All in front of an advocate.(She also told him she doubted he had sarcoidosis just by looking at him. Which is interesting as they had to take a bone marrow sample from his spine to diagnose that.)
When I reported her I was told that they didn't belive me.
My primary doctor pulled back on treatment for anything that wasn't strep or a sinus infection. He adamantly refused to do blood tests on me for anything for years.
My new doctor is obsessed with weight loss, the entire practice is. But she's at least diligent enough to do a blood panel.
Just found out I have a genetic mutation that stops my body from absorbing B12. Lack of B12 causes so many of the symptoms I've been going through including intense pain and fatigue.
Anyone could have done that blood test. I already told my doctors my mom had a B12 deficiency.
Now a lot of the horrible things I went through got significantly worse after my autism diagnosis was listed in my medical chart. Even doctors who had talked to me for years suddenly turned on me and acted like I couldn't be trusted at all to know what I was talking about. Who cares that I used to work in medical myself.
@thebibliosphere I had to repost this for both of us because OOF
