the last line does things to me i cannot describe when i think about it for too long and maybe this has all been said before but i need to talk about it

i just find the line so... interesting, because there's layers to it (like an ogre heh)

my first thought about the last line is that others perception, opinion, or impression of us doesn't hold much power over us, not in the way it would have had it come from someone we love and value. that ultimately, we make the choice of who gets to judge us

then i thought about it some more and there's the fact that throughout the entire novel, lu feng as THE trial court judge is compared to a god, someone so powerful they're nearly invincible

and then there's an zhe, just a little mushroom, someone meek and humble (not humble like a human, humble like most things in nature are)

so for lu feng (someone who has absolute power) to declare an zhe (someone unassuming, almost powerless) as the person who judges him is a sweet surrender of not just power but of everything that he is

and we also see that here:
