nine years ft. monkey d luffy!

luffy outstretched his arms, stifling a yawn. peering through blurry gaze, he tried to sit up. his head felt like it was going to split apart. the headache ravaged the back of his head and he tried to focus his gaze on the people in front of him.

"oi?" a young, sorta squeaky voice called out to him, "who are you?"

"who are you? and why do you look familiar?" another voice asked.

"let him atleast come to his senses." a young woman yelled at the two boys and luffy blinked twice as to take in the scene in front of him. her red hair shone under the sun, catching sunlight that reflected her fiery temperament.

"nami? is that you?" the older man's voice was gruff. he sat up and looked around as if observing the deck of the sunny for the first time.

the red-head was alarmed. with eyes widening, she asked, "is it actually you? luffy?"

"that's not me!!" the younger version quipped up, pouting when he stared at the older version, "i don't look like that."

"what do you mean? i think he's good-looking" another voice kissed the old captain's ears.

"yn?" the older version looked over to your voice.

"yn?" his eyes were frantic, as if taking all of as soon as he could. he sat up so fast, he almost could feel metal on his tongue, he could almost faint again.

but none of that mattered.

his fingers outstretched as if to feel your skin against his palm, as if to reassure himself that you were there.

"hey?" you seemed to chuckle awkwardly, backing off slightly at his sudden intrusion, "do i know you?"

there you were. there was his girl.

alive.

this wasn't one of those dreams that felt realer than life. you were there. so close, he could almost touch you and hold you and sob into you.

except you were nineteen again.

"hey, old man" zoro piped up, threatening the older man with a glare, "do we know you?"

"it's me" his throat was parched and it hurt to speak, "it's luffy."

"no, im luffy, you old man!!" the younger version piped up again, pouting even more now.

that interaction was three days ago and in the meantime, the crew and older version of their captain had both come to accept the strangeness of the situation. it was surreal, seeing his crew-mates young. to see them so full of dreams, their bodies barely beaten and bruised. it was surreal to see them so tiny, so inexperienced to what was about to come.

it was surreal to see you again.

you were nineteen. it would take two years before you and his younger version would get together. it would take seven more years till he asked you to marry him. it would take nine more years till he lost you.

but right now you were nineteen and when you smiled, the sun caught onto your skin, painting you in a golden shade. right now, you still snickered when you found something funny, the laugh sort of airy and hearty. right now, you still offered him a portion of your food as if you didn't want it. right now, the younger version of him didn't even know he loved you.

a part of him wanted to go yell at his younger version. hold him by the collar and threaten him to keep you safe. but all of that would be of no use.

the fates were cruel.

the deck was slightly chilly in the night air and you sat next to him. the aged captain didn't ignore the way you restlessly moved your legs. and he held back from putting his hand on your knee to calm you down.

"so..." you started and he knew that tone too well. you were gonna ask him something meekly, as in unsure if you wanna know the answer. you faced him, "what is future like? do you become the future king of pirates? is the crew together?"

"ah" luffy laughed, hiding this sting you sweet voice inflicted on him, "yes, the crew is still together. we even had some new members."

"really?" you beamed, "and me and you? are we still friends?"

"i-" he snuck in a breath and laughed again, hoping it would ease the pain in his voice, "ofcourse we are. we are the closest of friends. we will always be, till the end of time."

"no way! we're closer than you're with zoro?" your expression turned smug, "ha! i knew it. i am way way funnier than zoro."

luffy just nodded, finding an invisible rope round his throat as he looked at you. he was afraid as if one wrong word and he'd jinx everything, he'd be back in his solemn reality.

you spoke again, "i must say, did growing up make you less energetic? you're so quite luffy." then you corrected yourself, "ah, i mean like ofcourse growing up must make you less energet-"

"yn," luffy cut you off, "i love you"

your eyes widened comically, air stuck in your throat, "huh??"

"as a friend." he smiled at your confused figure, "i thought i should let you know while i was here."

"oh" a blush crept up your face, spreading till your ears, "i mean- i love you too- as a friend ofcourse!"

"i'm glad." luffy gave you a soft smile. his heart ached when you return back the smile with no hesitancy, "i'm glad i got to know you."

then you looked away from the older man and luffy knew it meant you were blushing even more furiously. then through a meek whisper you said, "you're being so sappy. stop it-"

"DINNER'S READY!" the young chef's voice boomed, snapping you two out of the conversation. the aged captain involuntarily jumped up at the name of dinner.

"glad to see you are the same about food still." he looked down at you, laughing. and he laughed with you.

he laughed because he knew in every timeline, he still had those nine years with you.

and he'd love you through them over and over again.

hello! so, i currently have an oc in the works. i dont have much for his character yet, and hes kind of a blank slate at the moment, however, whilst trying to develop him i had the idea to give him a disability; its something i dont do with my characters very often, and i feel like it could give some depth and realism to his character. however, i..... dont know where to really start with it? i have the vague idea that i think id like him to have crutches, so some sort of leg disability, but just going off that its been hard for me to find any condition that feels quite right. im unsure about making him an amputee either; seemingly the "go to" for anyone who wants to make a physically disabled character. i want to try and represent a disability thats less fetishized by the general public, and looking through this blog here its definitely apparent that a lot of people are tired of seeing basic half amputee characters with overly functional prosthetics; i wanna avoid that. sorry this has gotten a bit rambly, but basically what im asking is,, do you have advice for what i could use as just. a general starting point in this? im terribly uneducated and lost at the moment and id love some help. thank you :]

It's great that you're interested in writing a disabled character (with care)! I'm always happy to see more writers/artists/creatives do that.

You mentioned wanting to give him crutches, which is cool! Mobility aid users in media make me happy. However, you mentioned crutches as meaning a leg disability, which isn't always the case — and while I don't have statistics on it, I believe that most crutch users do not use them for leg-only problems, and a lot of them have the not-so-fetishized conditions. Here are some suggestions of what you could give your character, which hopefully gives you some ideas. If you need, you can get back to us with a more specific question after you figure out what exactly your character has! :-) (smile)

Cerebral palsy — probably the most common reason for using crutches in non-elderly people, and the most common (physical) disability in younger people in general. If your character has diplegic (meaning lower limbs affected) CP, he could use crutches and if he has hemiplegic (one arm and one leg affected) CP, then he could use a single crutch or a cane. Cerebral palsy is generally extremely underrepresented when compared to how many people have it IRL! Just be aware that there is a lot of research involved just about the condition itself — multiple types (spastic/ataxic/dyskinetic), different kinds of body involvement, tons of different mobility aids and orthotics to learn about. There is also hereditary spastic paraplegia, which is not the same as CP but similar and progressive.

Spinal cord injury — the general assumption is that all people with spinal cord injuries are fully paralyzed below the neck or waist, and that's not the case. If your character has an incomplete SCI on any level or just a very low level injury, he could be using crutches or switch between a wheelchair and crutches. It's essential to research SCIs to have them be more than “legs don't work, but that's literally it”. SCI can come with severe nerve pain, spasticity, atrophy, and a lot of other things. Worth noting that spinal cord injury could be traumatic, but could also be congenital (spina bifida) or illness related (polio, transverse myelitis, spinal stroke, or cancer, for example). You could think that it's overrepresented in media, but SCI is generally just used as a “default condition” for why a character is in a wheelchair, and a lot of these representations are unfortunately very shallow.

Paralysis — in the monoplegic sense here. Much more rare than the rest of the things here, but your character could have a single paralyzed leg, largely due to nerve damage. Could be traumatic or illness-related (e.g., cancer, infection, or multiple sclerosis).

Stroke (and other traumatic/acquired brain injuries) — stroke can cause a million different symptoms and depending on what happens to your character exactly, he might need crutches! A big portion of stroke survivors deal with hemiplegia and could use a crutch on their non-affected side, for example. Some kinds of stroke might cause your character to have troubles with balance and require a mobility aid to not fall. Of course stroke will also cause other symptoms for your character (it wouldn't be too realistic to only have him have problems with his legs) for example speech issues, headaches, or seizures. Stroke can happen to anyone, and it wouldn't be weird to have a younger character with it. Very common in real life but very rarely represented in fiction.

Limb difference — you can definitely write a character with a limb difference or an amputation without fetishizing it! The main concern with the fetishization is the concept of the robotic limb that works just as well as or even better than a meat leg, and thus the character is “fixed”. But your character could just… not use a prosthetic. A lot of congenital amputees, people with limb differences, or with high level (above knee) amputations might do that. He could also have a leg length difference, which could cause him to need crutches (for example, Morteza Mehrzad has one of his legs significantly shorter after a pelvic injury, and he uses crutches among other mobility aids).

Chronic pain — very broad category for too many specific conditions to count. Neuropathy in the legs and/or lower back could be a reason for using crutches, for example. Unhealed, or poorly healed past injuries. Arthritis in knees or hips. Hypermobility that makes him unsteady or dislocate joints. Pain in bones or muscles where he can't fully weight-bear.

Gait disorders — another broad category (sorry). Your character could have problems with his gait and need aids for that. It could be caused by dyspraxia (I have it), ataxia, progressive muscular dystrophy (there is a lot of different types), Parkinson's disease, or a lot of other things! Could also be injury related.

And of course you could have multiple characters that are disabled to make sure that there is some variety :)

OK SO BRAINROT CONSUMED ME AND I WANNA TRY MAKING SOME PURELILY ANGST AU

Get ready for a long ass wall of text of my random rambles + sprite edit

Fallen king au(?): after the events of beast yeast eps 1-2, shadow milk wasn’t fully sealed away, instead part of him managed to reside in pure vanilla’s mind (don’t ask how this part even works just bare with me vro). Over the span of a few months shadow milk would mentally torture pure vanilla in an attempt to get him vulnerable enough to be able to control him, starting off as just simply annoying him but overtime becoming more and more horrible and traumatic. In the beginning vanilla would continuously resist against him, trying to stay strong and refuse to let shadow milk control him. This would happen around the same time lily was very mentally fragile after the events of beast yeast, elder faerie’s death AND her guilt of being DE, so at first she didnt really notice vanilla’s declining mental state, as he would mask it pretty well and was busy trying to help her. As lily got better vanilla simply just got worse and worse, the lack of sleep, how little hes been eating out of stress, and the horrible anxiety he had caused by shadow milk was taking a toll on him, as hed start to isolate himself and become more irritable and angry. Lily had started to suspect something was wrong with vanilla, as he isn’t like this at all, but when she’d question him and ask if he’s alright he’d either just lie and say everything was fine, push her and others away or just lash out a bit. Eventually shadow milk gave vanilla a choice, either 1: keep resisting and shadow milk would keep up the mental torture, or 2: give up and let shadow milk fully take over, that he would stop the torture and vanilla could finally be “free”. Vanilla just couldn’t take it anymore and decided to just stop resisting, letting the jester take over his mind and body, resulting in vanilla getting locked away within his own mind. Shadow milk having finally taken over takes a few days to regain the body’s physical strength and then causes havoc in the vanilla kingdom, later he goes to beast-yeast to cut down the silver tree. Lily chases after him, confronting him at the tree and they fight it out, she tries her hardest to talk her way through to him, trying to reach vanilla but to no avail, vanilla isn’t there anymore. She later has no choice but to seal him away, seal away her best friend, her best friend that was there for her, her best friend who she knew from their school days, and most painfully the one she fell in love with. She succeeds in sealing him away inside the tree, and as shes doing so she doesn’t see him as the evil beast he has become, instead she sees the little vanilla from their school days, she sees her very best friend, crying as he’s sealed away. Lily later on builds a shrine in beast-yeast in honor of him, to remember him, as she misses him dearly and regrets not doing anything while she could.

Mind you this was inspired from LULLABY FOR A PRINCESS out of all things (yes that one mlp fan song, shut up its good)

Plus here is a corrupted pv sprite edit, unsure what to name him, i was considering vanilla extract cookie but dunno, if yall got any name ideas pls tell me 😭😭😭

This au is still being developed so its bound to change but this is what i have so far!!! I rlly wanna keep working on this i just need to think. I wanna try writing a fic for funsies, im not rlly a writer tho so who knows!

✮A/N: HI!! I really had fun writing this and i really hope you like it! I dont know how to skate myself so i ended up asking for a friend on how to skate, i also love writing for akito, so it makes me happy requesting for him :DD

✮Summary: since this class year is almost coming to an end, your classmates recently invited you and your friend akito out to skate

While you were out skating with your friends, you noticed how akito was desperately holding onto the railings as if there's no tomorrow.

Recently, your classmate invited the class out to skate,you were almost turning into second years and that meant that the class might go in their separate ways.. You always thought your friend akito knew how to skate and was actually planning to ask him for help, he knows soccer and was very athletic growing up, he probably knows how to skate, you assumed.... Turns out you assumed wrong.

You finished putting on your scarf, earmuffs and gloves and head onto the ice rink with akito, at first you wanted to skate with your classmates but.. you werent really close with them so you decided to stick with your friend akito, since you both were the closest, you notice how long it took for him to stop holding onto the railling, so you went up to him.

"Hey, kito.. you alright?" You ask, akito scoffs a bit and sighs "yeah, yeah im cool.." he replied, you carefully took his arm and tried to pull him out of the raillings, slowly but surely. "Oh, okay then.. wanna join them?" You ask, akito looks around, shaking his head "oh, no thanks.. im sticking here with you.." he replied "do you know how to skate?" You ask, akito clears his throat and adjusts his scarf "n-no.. but who cares.." he shruggs, feeling embarrassed as he cant impress you.

"Wait.. you dont? I always assumed you knew cause well... You play sports?" You added, akito groans "just because im athletic doesnt mean i know every sport there is [Y/N]" He crosses his arms and chuckles slightly. "Anyways.. i want to leave.. maybe go to a cafe or something.." he added, wanting to change the topic, you shook your head. "No, we're staying.. please? We're almost in our second years and maybe we're not even classmates anymore.. who knows?" You added, unsure on how to teach him "sorry, i dont really know how to teach someone.." you saud awkwardly, akito nodded "no,no... Its okay, i understand very well.." he replied and bent his knees. "Not that bent.. like.. oh thats better" you pointed out. "Well.. uh.. the thing i like to do is march..? Then after that i just glide..? March and glide.." you stated, akito nodded his head and tried to march and glide while still holding onto you.

"Okay.. thats it.. yeah.. slow down so that you can take turns.." you mentioned, and akito slows down, he was getting a hang of it! "Wait.. how do you turn away..?" He asks "hm.. well just lean into the direction you want to go.. lets go over there since its less crowdy" you suggest, akito nodded "just lean into that direction and maybe.. shift your weight that way" you replied and kito did so, it took a few more tries but he eventuall did it. "Hey, you did it.!" You congratulated him, he was a fast learner which impressed you, you slowly let go of him and just skated along side him. "[Y/N] how do i stop..??" He asked, you saw ahead that there was a railling and that if you dont stop, you might get hit. "Put your feet together and form a v shape like this" you formed a v shape with your blade and you gradually slowed down, akito however didnt quite get that.. "huh? "Hey, now my hair's messed up.." he sighs and stood up as well.

You both secretly left the ice rink and went to a nearby cafe akito was talking about, luckily not much people were there. You both ordered you drinks and dessert and sat down "really? Carrot cake?" He asked "yeah carrot cake, you dont get to talk since you like cheesecake" you teased "how is cheesecake bad? Carrot cake's the worse.." he replied. "You took a tiny slice of the cake and tried feeding it ti akito. "Comeon.. try one!" You suggested and he shook his head "no.. you know how i dont like carrots.." He added and you sighed giving up. You both talked while drinking your coffees and eating your cakes, both of you soon left the cafe.

"I cant belive they charged us just to have a takeout bag.." you added while akito sighs "why did you order such a big cake anyways? You couldve orders a slice.." he mentioned "i did.! ive had this idea for a while now, esp when i first made the first two pages. i just never had the time to fully contextualise what narry might say in return until now where he actually has advice (which i had to think abt)

like usual, im writing from experience and personal ideas bc for a while ive been genuinely unsure as to how i wanted my narrator to be. he's at his third redesign (roughly, this is the third outfit he's ever had and im counting design sheets as redesigns)

a part of me is glad its satiating the side that wants "just an old man" narry. but on the other my minds screaming its not 'creative' or 'unique' or 'different' enough compared to other ppls narrators. which are way more recognizable and more creative in their designs. and thus this is where this comic came from

im gonna explore my narrators design again for a bit. probably not a full rehaul since at this point the grey n white swoop is a standard. but with me experimenting maybe i can find something that satiates both sides of what i want and hopefully get to put that man in more silly outfits asdjashdg

Just feels like the doors and windows to even try spreading are just sealed shut with no interest in most others to try branching outside their own group. At least that's my impression from my time on here over the years.

I apologize for the negative post but it really does feel like that right now, the ever so frequent 0 interest results across the board are just demotivating to me. To those that do still interact with me, know that your treasured and I appreciate you every second for the time spent together. You honestly have been my biggest sources of energy and caused countless smiles when I look at the dash. I've made some good friends on here and I'd like to still keep that contact if possible.

Right now its looking more likely Ill leave and stick to discord if people wanna still chat or RP there. But I dunno, maybe I just need a break? All of those ideas are great and just so the pain of fanfic often sort of being what would be a novel first draft by being episodic, but I feel like you could so weave in a tonne of this stuff past now anyway. rn i am considering how much if any retouching i wanna do of the existing 260k of coping skills cos yeah, the struggle of fanfic essentially being the first draft of a novel. usually it doesnt get me too bad since a) i generally fully complete a fic before posting so i do have a chance to go back and adjust things here and there & 2) i really havent ever cared to redraft something in the more traditional sense and iii) i basically never write things over 100k let alone anything substantially over 100k

one of the options im considering would involve a fairly big overhaul where i pull out the individual arcs and flesh em out with additional scenes for better pacing, and then repost as a series with shorter individual fics (with the og in tact as is, just with a note). ive had several people tell me theyve balked at the length of this damned fic, especially since its barely half done plot wise for JUST this specific already plotted chunk of the whole shebang. it has quite possibly gotten a smiiiidge out of control lmao but its been a great learning experience and i am Determined to finish it

however, i am ALSO considering filing the serial numbers off this fic once its done. i absolutely plan on redrafting the whole thing with a bunch of developmental editing work so the end result would almost certainly be a very different form of the story from the fic as it is now. im still unsure of how much of the rework i have in my head i want to put on the internet as Coping Skills: The Fic tho. its really important to me that, whatever i end up doing, i keep this monster available on the internet as a fanfic cos i am well aware of how much it means to a lot of folks

at the same time though theres a lot of backend stuff i could build into the cs2.0 idea that would make writing the rest of the story a LOT easier, which would make dev edits and redrafting easier bc ill be starting with something that has more structure, etc

theres balance somewhere i just haven't found it yet, HOWEVER im absolutely gonna be stuck til i figure it out. im a plantser when it comes to plot, im more than happy to figure out the path to a fairly nebulous endgoal, but i struggle to write stuff if i dont have a good idea of the overall structure of how i tell the story, like pattern of pov shifts and theming, which definitely got a bit away from me the last like 80k lmao

i love the idea of the Dwellers mask revealing the true form of a soul and i was in the mood to write Hat Kid being unsure/anxious cuz i make her WAY to confident in most of my depictions of her idk if this counts as angst like i said shes mostly just kinda unsure nothing to extreme emotion wise she just isn't very happy about the implications

Dwelling On The Past

the Dwellers Mask was nothing like her other hats (obviously it was a mask) its ability relied entirely on her perspective. When Hat Kid use the mask she was the only one who could see its effects unlike the very tangible skills of her other hat powers. It definitely proved itself useful for traversing the twisted terrain of Subcon Forest with all of its invisible spirit platforms (a little try hard for a haunted forest to have GHOST objects) but one thing she couldn't quite pin down was when she use it in front of the forest residents. the Subconites and Dwellers looked almost human minus the fact they were covered in that sparkly green hue that the ghostly objects had it made her feel uneasy. The thought that all these strange undead forest creatures were alive at some point rubbed her the wrong way (who were they? how did they die? if they're all kids who killed them?). She needed answers and she needed them now! So she ran to the only person(?) who would most likely have them the forests so-called ruler a large intimidating spirit known as The Snatcher (she would just refer to him as Snatcher no need for formality). Upon arriving at his tree she noticed that he wasn't there. Normally he would be reading in a huge particularly comfy looking chair but he wasn't in his usual spot. "don't you have your contractual obligations to do kiddo?" a voice (presumably Snatcher) spoke from behind her but it didn't sound right. the tone was perfectly in line with how the spirit spoke to her but the voice was far to soft and far too human. despite this she swore she could hear his normal voice echoing very quietly when he spoke. "trying to ignore me i see? well that's not very respectful is it kid?" she turned around expecting to see the ghoul who had stolen her soul and forced her to sign those contracts but was greeted to the sparkly green figure of a young man with swooped hair, regal attire, and a crown scowling at her with his arms crossed. "what are you looking at kiddo? something on my face?" she stared in awe at the Prince(?) ignoring the fact that she was most likely staring at a very annoyed Snatcher. "ya know kid i cant really tell what your expression is under that mask of yours. how about we fix that!" in an instant her mask was snatched away by green hands and she was looking at a large purple ghost with swooped neck fur(?) staring at her with a smug face. "great now were on the same page! ill be confiscating this until you finish delivering that mail now get back to work kid!" after she competed her task and was awarded another Timepiece she headed back to her ship for the night. Going over to her bookshelf she pulled a book with quite a few missing pages off of the shelf and drew an image of the Princely figure she saw that day. she opened the cover to see the first page comparing the Prince on the page to the one she saw. "dear diary i think i need to go back in the Subcon TimeRift i missed a LOT of pages and im starting to think there's more to that place then it seems. the next place i have to go on the contracts is the manor but i wanna know more about this forest before i go. i just hope Snatchers not mad im being slow with my contractual obligations…"

my process of making a comic for public vk ask is precise: pick a question, get the general idea and make a silly doodle teasing it, brainstorm about that (i usually write it up so i wont forget everything in a second), compose and finally illustrate. so today i wanna show you one of the brainstorms. i usually write these up just along the way, noting everything that comes to my mind, and in russian of course, but this time i made it as clean as possible, and also as short as possible... these are sometimes super massive, especially if i get to theorizing (i usually do). its just a funny thing to share because i too think that my texts are very absurd fr. and also its a practice, i have english exam in less than a month. alright, lemme copy and paste it from my memos and pretend we're getting started.

so there is an age old question lying in arana's askbox (literally september 2nd.. and its unanswered, luckily for me) that is basically about why arana ended up befriending rana, and the person specified how could she become so devoted solely to rana. when i saw that, i once again confirmed to myself how poorly people know the story of aranyaka, but im not mad about that at all, its rather an opportunity for me to tell a story! simply answering the question with a little of a correction would be too boring, so i decided that i will only use post-aranyaka arana as a talking head to make things more interesting. the key is that she had forgotten everything we learned during the questline, so with that she will only have to assume stuff. stories are a thing, of course, but a very different thing. so this is a setup that hopefully will make things more intriguing. with that said, let me try to solve a problem the asking person stated previously to debut myself.

first of all, i want to state why arana is not devoted solely to rana. she actually told us otherwise: she is basically a babysitter for all the children of vimara village, probably she's even been caring for generations of them considering how old she is. plus, rana is an adult and she cant see aranara, and so arana. arana still does watch over her, but she doesnt hang out with her anymore. with such a summation theres no way arana would be dedicated only to rana. we get to focus on rana because she is in trouble, and thats how things always go: when someone is ill, they need more care to get healthy again. arana is just committing a genuine help in a serious situation, just like she did with iotham by the way.

so the little misunderstanding is solved, now moving onto the difficult part. how will arana explain herself? of course i will not let rana speak majorly, best at all even. this is the difficulty, because rana is the one who remembers. arana still must be aware of being friends with rana and the children from the village in the past, but lets get into her perspective for a moment.

its a cool concept to have someone who barely knows the subject to talk about that subject: they will make mistakes, make assumptions, be unsure about their statements, etc. meanwhile everyone else are well aware about the subject, so they will notice all the inaccuracy. just let arana assume! let her make as many wrong statements as possible, but end up being sure about one thing: rana is still dear to her no matter what. perhaps she doesnt fully realize the value of this connection, but this is not important. despite aranara being largely focused on memories, arana lives the current moment, and that may be why she rejected on becoming vasara tree, to live freely and feel this current moment. i went kinda philosophical about this, but thats a necessary part. this is basically what i want to say with this, a moral of the story. sure thing the past may be dear to you, but you will never have an opportunity go back there, doomed to stay in the present. however, its up to you what you want this present to be, to make it a precious past one day.

lmao this is literally where i might end playing role of arana for making the most philosophically filled comic of all i ever made. only have to compose it well now, which is even harder than this brainstorming to me, so now i retreat and start making the idea alive, because all the previous steps are completed.
