just watched whiplash. the mental fortitude of neiman wow……… bitch i’d kill myself on the first day as a core the fuck! i remember doing a clapping tempo test in jazz band and my prof graded me a FOUR out of ten. said my grade out loud for the whole band to hear then acted like he didn’t absolutely decimate me and moved on to testing the next student like it was nothing

TF2 BAND AU!!!!

Sorta, the band part is more of an extra side thing, it's more of a modern au but they also happen to be in a band.

Me and my tiktok mutual have been working on this au and I've decided to share some of our ideas for it :D I wanna eventually draw something for this au!!

I'm gonna go by character, though keep in mind we are very biased so some characters have a LOT more then others (still this is gonna be a longg post)

But first some general things: their band is called "Team Fortress 2" bc that's the game no way!! They chose to make it 2 bc they thought it was cooler then just Team Fortress. They all go by their canon names (except Spy and Pyro) but I'm gonna continue to refer to them as their classes, even tho they aren't mercenaries in this au and don't have classes but shh ok

Scout

Plays the guitar (can also play drums but insists on being the lead guitarist)

Barely goes to practice, only started going more because Soldier forced him to (they live together)

Practices for performances the day of/a few minutes before performing (or to try impress someone)

Lives in an apartment

Can read, but it takes him really long and he has to sound out ever word (people think he's leaving them on read when really he's just trying to read their message)

Has a motorcycle

Works as a delivery boy for Heavy's family restaurant (more on that later) except the food always arrives cold bc it takes him so long to read the address

Doesn't question the food that "randomly" appears in his fridge, or the raccoon in his apartment (again more on those 2 later)

Has a collection of weirdly shaped guitars (he brings a different one to every practice/performance and it's chaos bc they all sound different)

Streams games on twitch sometimes

He's still scared of Pyro (still)

His room/apartment is a mess, like dirty clothes on the floor kind of messy

Soldier

Plays the trumpet (and most wind instruments, but in the band he plays trumpet. Does it match the rest of the band? No, but he insists on playing trumpet)

Soldier forces Scout to go to practice, like he will physically pick him up ("WE HAVE PRACTICE MAGGOT AND BY GOD WE ARE GOING TO GET THERE ON TIME. NO ONE WAITS FOR YOU IN WAR AND I CERTAINLY WILL NOT WAIT FOR YOU" - Soldier probably)

Changes jobs a lot not because he gets fired but because he just feels like it

Insists he's homeless but he sleeps at Scout's apartment and basically lives there, just sleeps on the couch though he doesn't have a room (Scout offered his spare room but he declined saying he was homeless and not staying there long. He still hasn't left 2 years later)

Brought a stray raccoon he named Lieutenant Bites to Scout's apartment

(Along with Scout) begged Medic to learn how to care for raccoons for Lieutenant Bites

Thinks the food that appears in Scout's fridge is some spirit bringing food for them (he doesn't care, he still eats it)

Pyro

Plays drums

Unemployed, sometimes helps Engie at his workshop

Wears the same thing they do in game, everyone else has a sorta simplified/weapon-free version of their outfit (or the same, depending on the character) but they wear the same thing as in game, gas mask and all

Lives with Engie, their room is super colorful and childish

Has a big cabinet in their room full of lighters (they collect lighters)

Like to paint/draw on the walls of their room, invite people to draw with them but everyone is too scared to enter their room so the only one who really does it is Engie, who isn't scared of them

No one knows where Pyro came from, they showed up to practice one day and killed it on the drums so everyone just accepted them into the band, and then Pyro followed Engie home and just stayed there

No one knows Pyro's name, but they answer to Pyro so everyone just calls them that

Most of the other members can't understand what they say, Engie can

Goes to Medic anytime their stuffed animals are damaged and begs for them to be healed

Makes friendship bracelets for the band but no one wears them at first (they eventually do, after being threatened by Pyro)

Heavy

Main vocals (has the voice of an angel)

Brought his family to New Mexico (from Russia ofc) and his family opened a sandwich restaurant

Their restaurant also doubles as their house so his room is just above the restaurant, his room is pretty clean

Works at the restaurant

Sasha exists we are currently discussing on whether she will stay the same or become like a trombone

Is also scared of Pyro

Demoman

Plays the keytar (and a bagpipe bc he's Scottish but in the band he plays keytar)

Lives in his mansion, it's fairly clean, but his room is messy

Lives with his mom

Works several jobs

Basically just him in the comics tbh didn't change him much

He has a horse though, sometimes he brings it places instead of his car, no one knew he had a horse till they all went outside and saw a horse in a parking spot

Wears Pyro's bracelet before they threaten everyone

Engineer

Tech support for the band

But has his own solo career making country music

Other then that he owns a workshop and takes commissions making things (engineer is one of the only classes that can actually be translated into an actual job)

Loves his daughter-son-child-thing Pyro (he adopted them despite them being a grown adult)

His home is small but he keeps it (mostly) clean, unlike his workshop, which is a mess

Also wears Pyro's bracelet before they threaten everyone

Spy

Plays piano

No one knows like anything about him, he prefers not to interact with the other members much

Married to Scout's mom

Scout's dad

No one knows his real name (except Scout's mom)

Still has his watch and can go invisible

Every week he does Scout's groceries (while invisible) bc he hates him but he does still care about his son (does it invisible so Scout doesn't know it was him)

Medic

Backstage help/helps setting up

Makes German accordion covers of songs

Always has like 5 doves following him around (Disney Princess fr)

Experiments on roadkill (his house smells awful)

Lives in a small house by himself with all his birds

Has a shed for his birds (mostly for the winter when it's cold, other then that they just roam around his garden freely

Crashes weddings to save doves

As well as being a human doctor he also knows how to care for birds (yes he is a doctor)

Doesn't like big lights so his house is lit with candles and lamps, it's very dark

His neighbors hate him (the cops are constantly being called to his house)

Likes to go to abandoned hospitals and research facilities to steal chemicals and stuff

Learned to sew so he can patch up Pyro's stuffed animals

No one wants to go in his house bc they think it's scary (except Pyro they don't care)

Sniper

Plays bass (also does background vocals)

Lives in his camper van, it's fairly messy

Sells "drugs" (doesn't actually, they're just vitamin gummies he says are drugs)

Scavenges for things (definitely dumpster dives)

Hunts for his food

Whenever he has bad luck with hunting he eats leftovers from a chuck e cheese (stole this from a 4chan thread I saw on tiktok)

Leonarda

(I wanna talk about Leo more in my Superpowered Children AU [SCAU as I like to call it] because as everyone who follows this au knows, I’ve been isolating her character a lot, and now I’m gonna talk about it!)

Leonarda wasn’t supposed to be an outlier like Tallulah, Richas, and Pomme since her power isn’t really ‘invasive’ as the Feds liked to call it. But she ended up being never introduced to them at all because of *reasons*

Reasons being she’s very VERY useful. They realized how creative she was and were afraid that she would be the reason the other children would manage to escape if they ever decided on revolutionizing. So they isolated her.

They isolated her to the point where she didn’t know there were other children in the facility and where Cucurucho (a scientist in this au obv dcgdy) was her only company for a long long time. 

She grew to like Cucurucho, but it was hard to be happy to see a friend when said friend would routinely inject medicine into you every time you see each other even if you tell him that it hurts. So, in her lonely isolation, she created a friend. A… ‘real’ friend she liked to call Darki.

Now, Leo’s not that powerful. At least not powerful enough to create an actual creature/person out of thin air in an instant. Darki was created slowly, gradually, and even after four or so years in the making is STILL not finished. 

Right now, he’s more of like a shadow to Leo, and the only one who can hear him is her.

Leo doesn’t realize that she’s the one making him tho, so whenever she doesn’t feel particularly lonely, her creation of Darki halts and his development pauses. Which is why the creation isn’t killing her as much as it would have if she was doing it fast and consciously.

That’s why when Trumpet found her room and befriended her, Darki’s whole development kinda faded into the background. Leo still likes to talk to him whenever she’s alone, but now that she had Trumpet and the other kids, she couldn’t talk to him lest the other people would think she was crazy.

uhh instrument!! to play, i guess the saxophone! i learned a bit of guitar when i was inpatient last time and it was a bit Too Hard for me bc my left hand is bad at dextrous things that arent video games, and i grew up playin flute, but the instrument i had the most fun playin was alto sax when i was in school. it was great c: if i pick up an instrumebt again i wanna learn trumpet and learn to play ska songs i think thatd be fun

and to listen to i think it actually is just like. brass in general. my favorite genre is ska (tho i do like other stuff) i think partly bc of all the pokemon sapphire and emerald i played as a young idiot kid and those fuckin. french horns and trumpets in the hoenn soundtrack made me like brass instruments a lot agskdhdj

Helloooo saw you wanted to chat! I know we’ve discussed this briefly before, but I’d love to know your take on the AOT cast as classical musicians. (You don’t have to do all of them if you don’t wanna tho) What instruments would they play? How far do they take it - do they just play as a hobby or do they do all the grades and go to a conservatory and become an orchestral musician?

Okay this might be long because I’ve got a whole modern AU in my head.

Erwin: His family was sort of well-to-do when he was growing up, with his dad being a college professor. He was ‘highly encouraged’ into musical lessons, but really didn’t mind them and continues to practice into adult hood. I picture him with a wide range of instruments, mainly the piano and string instruments. Plays in the local orchestra occasionally.

Hange: Their parents weren’t very strict, pretty much allowing them to do whatever they wanted. They sampled a few different instruments, but didn’t really stick to one in particular. As an adult they only vaguely remember how to play a couple wind instruments.

Levi: It was just him and his mom growing up, and it was a struggle. They had a tiny old piano in their apartment, beaten and scratch to hell but it still worked. Kuchel knew how to play, and taught her little boy a few basic songs before she passed. As an adult Levi tries to learn, wanting to feel closer to her and honor her memory. He doesn’t get to far into lessons, he just wants to know how to play some of the songs he remembers from childhood.

Eren: His parents force him into drum lessons, trying to give him an outlet for his anger. Eren doesn’t really care for it at the time, kind of hates being forced into lessons, but picks it back up in college to relieve stress. Might even play a bit in a dorky band.

Mikasa: Played a wind instrument, probably a flute, in elementary and middle school. Was quite good at it, but never really cared for music. Very purposely remembers nothing as an adult.

Armin: Chello. I have no idea why but I feel that he played the chello in my gut. Probably also knows how to play the violin and ukulele. Took a ton of classes, played band in high school and college, but probably doesn’t pursue it much further.

Connie: His parents made him join band in middle school. He chose the trumpet and they regret their decision until the moment he moves out. Mostly just plays to annoy people.

Jean: Never played an instrument until college. Started a guitar class with the intent of using it to pick up ‘chicks’. Fell in love with the instrument, going out of his way to learn from the internet and ends up in a dorky college band with Eren.

Ymir: I don’t know why, but I picture her as a drummer. Has a really cool rock band that’s moderately successful.

Historia: Her parents were RICH rich. Forced her into all sorts of private lessons for the piano, flute, violin, harp, etc. She followed through with the violin well into high school, but quickly dropped the instrument the moment she got out of her parents grasp. Sort of vaguely hates it until she runs into Ymir and her band 😘. Her and ymir make softer, less rock-bandy, music together!

I still play piano (not well), but I put my trumpet away and haven’t touched it in years lol I would LOVE to join another bell choir or band tho ngl I was actually pretty good playing trumpet XD I could go two octaves :P I have an ocarina but I never actually learned to play it. *cracks knuckles* Here we go! (I talked about these headcanons a lot with the awesome @owletry and @pistachio-lan so I can’t take all the credit for all these. Thanks for putting up with my bullshit guys lmao)

Everyone’s parts (highest to lowest): Marvin as first tenor, Chase as second tenor (and lead of the group), Schneep as baritone, and Jackie as bass.

Schneep and Jackie are able to trade parts quite easily but they prefer where they are in the group.

While Jameson can’t *sing* with the group, he still is an important member! He not only acts as like a director for the boys, he also plays accompanying instruments like the ukulele, trumpet (yes Sean’s blue trumpet specifically), and sometimes kazoo if they’re singing more of a joke song for fun. He also whistles tunes when it’s called for!

And before every show/ performance they ask the audience if there’s any deaf folks in the crowd. If there is, Jameson perks up happily and sets aside his instruments and instead signs for those who need it.

Since it’s these dudes, I can’t imagine them being a totally serious barbershop quartet/ quintet- so their style is heavily influenced by comedy and the group “The Newfangled Four” (there’s a few of their songs on the playlist and they’re EXACTLY how I picture the egos are like on stage. Especially with Chase and Jackie beat-boxing like in TNF’s Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Schneep nudges them and they get back into their regular positions for at least a moment before moving to the next bit)

Schneep pretends to TRY and keep the others under control but in reality it’s just for the bit and he’s having a lot of fun being up there with them.

Jackie and Marvin have an on-going bit of where they go back and fourth about who’s the better singer of the group and often have mini sing-offs (they usually sing “Anything You Can Do” from Annie Go Get Your Gun and it’s a crowd favorite). Chase is egging them on and keeping the audience engaged while Schneep rolls his eyes and pretends to be all like, “MUST you two do this EVERY time?” It’s all in good fun tho.

Not only does JJ play instruments and act as a sort of director for the others, he also runs a lot of the VISUAL gags and hands out props to the others when it’s required. Also he put on big reactions to what they’re singing to try and have the audience do the same (like laughing, booing, cheering, and just over-all getting them involved while the boys sing).

The whole barbershop thing was Chase’s idea and it came out on a whim while the five of them were all drinking together one night. They were all messing around singing random songs and bar shanties together and Chase noticed, “Oh damn we actually sound good?? Dudes, let’s make a band.” And after a lot of research and a some more (sober) practice they all decided, “Oh hell yeah, this is gonna be cool.”

They started out just going out and singing in bars/ on the streets spontaneously (after JJ helps start with a pitch pipe). It always drew a crowd and turned heads and it was awesome! And eventually they started getting invited to events and parties to perform for.

Anti isn’t in the group for a few reasons. 1) He’s an asshole. 2) Can’t sing worth SHIT (sounds super auto-tuned lmao). 3) He thinks the whole idea is stupid and he fuckin’ hates their dorky-ass outfits. (Marvin: “I’m not a fan either, but at least I make it look good.”)

But since they got an extra outfit/ hat they use what would have been Anti’s hat as a tip jar. But being the ass that he is, Anti would claim the money was his. “It’s my hat, so it should be my cash.” (Chase: “... Bitch?”) 

Chase and Henrik’s favorite song to sing (about Anti) while JJ plays the ukulele aggressively is “No More ... To Give” by Thomas Benjamin Wild Esq. It’s just.. so perfect. And animation worth... Hm.

Smol angst/ fluff time! :D Song

It gets hard sometimes, yaknow? Some nights Chase’s depression gets the best of him so he just mopes in the kitchen drinking in his sweatpants. The others find him and share some sad looks before Jameson gets an idea. He casually saunters over with his hands behind his back while whistling a tune that they all recognize with silent snickers and grins. Chase perks up at Jameon’s whistling and the other’s singing, starting the first song they ever learned as a group. Marvin taking the lead to start with Jackie and Schneep joining vocals soon after, “Whenever life gets you down, keeps you wearing a frown, and the gravy train has left you behind. And when you’re all out of hope, down at the end of your rope, and nobody’s there to throw you a line...”

They all pause and look to Chase with hopeful expressions and the father shakes his head with a grin and continues the song, “If you ever get so low that you don’t know which way to go, come on and take a walk in my shoes. Never worry about a thing, got the world on a string ‘cause I got the cure for all of my blues~”

“All of his blues~” They all sing in soft harmony for a moment, crowding around Chase in a sort of hug before taking a breath in unison and singing as a group, holding back their laughs to try and make it through the first part, “I take a look at my enormous penis~!”

“And my troubles start-a melting away~”

They found this song when first getting into barbershop and it never failed to make them all burst into laughter by the end of it. Singing it together always cheered them up almost instantly because of how ridiculous and silly it was. Yes it may have been a little immature, but c’mon! It’s a good song and they sound DAMN good singing it together. They never sang this one in public, of course- unless it was requested at a bar or something- so they keep it more to themselves as an inside joke and therapy song that always pulls out a giggle from them

And I think that’s everything! If you read through all that.. wowie. XD I’m sorry? I’ve just been really into this idea while working on it and I really wanna draw all of the ideas but I’m so lazy/ fleeting motivation idk if I’ll ever get around to it ^^;; But if you have any ideas/ headcanons for this dumb idea of mine, please share!! I’d love an excuse to gush more about these musical bois lmao

"Man, I got bored on that event," Gordon groaned. "I thought it was gonna be a party."

"Thought so too," Alan agreed. "Where's the fun in it?"

"I never knew it was gonna be like that," Virgil said.

"I have an idea," Gordon stood up. "How about we have a party here on Tracy Island?"

"For what, Gordon?" Scott asked.

"For fun!"

"John," Grandma Tracy arrived with a package. "I have something for you."

"What is it, Grandma?" John approached.

"It's something you've learned how to play a long time ago."

John received the package and opened it. "My old trumpet. It's been years since I played my old trusty. You brought it here?"

"I found it somewhere in our old home. I was wondering if you remember anything about your trumpet."

"It was for my music class."

"John plays the trumpet?" Gordon was amazed.

"Just a short stint."

Back then, John wanted to play a string instrument. There were loads of instruments in the music room to choose from. Then he changed his interest. He went through videos of people doing song covers with their woodwind instruments. What he liked most were smooth jazz covers. That got him interested to play the trumpet.

He used to play sometimes at night, looking up at the night sky, all alone, composing tones for quite a bit. Sometimes Virgil hears those rough drafts, he liked all of it. John always liked to do a slow-paced rhythm. When he grew up, he didn't get to play it anymore. He didn't quite remember why, he was busy. But he still loves his old trusty instrument.

"And I have something for you that I bought," Grandma gave another box to John.

"A plunger mute," John smiled. "I've always wanted this, Grandma."

"Virgil remembered your wish."

John glanced at Virgil, who was standing near the piano. "Thanks, Virgil."

"Anytime, little brother."

"Hey Gordo," Alan jumped up. "how about a family jam session?"

"Even better!" Gordon exclaimed. "I'll go get my guitar."

"I'll get mine too!"

The two youngest rushed to their rooms to grab their instruments.

"Well, what do you know?" Kayo stood beside Scott. "Something to lighten up the mood."

"They always have great ideas," Scott said.

He grabbed his old acoustic guitar in his room. The family gathered in the lounge and the session started with Gordon. Alan also brought his old beat box that has been in the corner of his desk for a long time. Scott and Gordon took turns first, then later they played a duet together.

After a few songs, it was Virgil's turn with his piano.

"Okay guys, I'm gonna pick someone who's gonna play a duet with me."

"Hey Virg, what about John?" Alan said. "Wonder what it would be like if you guys sing together?"

"I'll just stick to my old trusty, Alan," John was still holding his old trumpet.

"Play something first."

"Alright then," Virgil started playing, a tune familiar to Scott. "Hey, that's my jam," he pointed out.

"One of yours," Virgil said. "I pick you, bro."

"Nah, you can borrow it."

"No, you're playing with me. We haven't done this in years, Scott. Get over here, sit beside me."

'But I don't quite remember the words--"

He didn't want to give it a go, but why not reminisce the past along with his younger brother?

The others cheered to encourage him to perform. So he got up from the couch and joined with Virgil. "You start."

"Sure."

Virgil started singing the first verse, and Scott joined in the chorus, a good sounding blending from the two of them. Gordon, Alan, and Kayo were surprised on how beautiful that was, they probably haven't heard Scott sing for a long time.

"I never knew he sings, but that was beautiful," Alan commented.

Kayo blushed.

After the verse, Scott played a piano solo using only his right hand. The audience were amazed on that bit.

"Hey, it looks like the song needs more than just one solo," Gordon commented. "Scott, that was great!"

"Thanks."

"Your idea, you do it, Gordon," Virgil said.

"Alan?" Gordon glanced at his younger brother.

"FAB," Alan adjusted the tuner of his Strat. He played a small blues solo, and Gordon added a rhythm on his acoustic. Kayo snapped her fingers to the rhythm. The piece went nicely.

"John, your turn!" Gordon called.

"I'm not good at improvising with this, Gordon."

"Come on, I wanna hear it!"

"Guess I'll just follow what Alan did for a bit."

"Oh, and try to add that plunger mute too," Scott added.

"I'll try."

John's small solo added the jazz vibe of the song. Adding the growl and the plunger mute sounded better too. After all the solos, Virgil ended the piece with a good note. All of them contributed to the song.

"Feels like yesterday, huh?" Virgil glanced at Scott.

"Yeah," Scott agreed. "Yeah, it is."

It was a great family jam session, and it continued all night.
