My thoughts on LOK characters after watching season 3

Korra: wow... just.... wow... what an amazing season for her. Yes it ended kinda fucked up but throughout the season she grows so much. The character development is off the charts! I'm so very proud of her! What a wonderful girl. I love her with all my heart.

Jinora: I'm so happy so got her tattoos!!! How amazing for her!! (That shit must've hurt dude like one lil tat isn't that bad but all of your body all at once?that must have hurt like crazy) I love that she used her spirit powers so much this season and that she really got to show what she can do!!

Tenzin: HE WAS SO STRESSED THIS SEASON AND I TOTALLY GET IT I MEAN IMAGINE HAVING TO TEACH ALL OF....THAT!! He was so so strong and when he just started fighting and the red lotus bitches started just attacking him I almost cried like what! Anyway hes such a great dad, so proud of Jinora. I would like Tenzin to adopt me, I could use a good dad thank you Tenzin.

Mako: I actually liked him a lot this season! When there isn't any of the girl stuff and he isn't just lying to them all the time hes actually a great character.

Bolin: SUCH A SWEET LOVE OH MY GOSH THIS MAN HAS SO MUCH LOVE IN HIS HEART!! He meets his family once and they're everything to him, he falls in love with Opal and just!!! Loves her so immensely!!! What a dream boat! I said it before and I'll say it again:had he been real I would have had such a huge ass crush on him!!!

Kuvira: we got a little peek of her this season. She seems hardworking and passionate! So I like her so far!

Asami: we got so much time with her this season and I enjoyed every second with her! I love how shes becoming an actual friend to Korra (wink) and is just overall being a great character doing great character things!

Zaheer: HOLY SHIT. WHAT. IVE SEEN PEOPLE ONLINE ARGUE ABOIT WHETHER ZEHAAR OR OZAI WERE A MORE DANGEROUS ENEMY BUT HOW??? ZAHEER WOULD BEAT OZAIS ASS IN A HEARTBEAT!! THIS DUDE IS INSANE!! (And, yk, absolutely coocoo)

Eska: we only got a little time with her but I love her!!! Every line is ICONIC!!!

Opal: sweet! Shes so shy and kind! I love how the avatar creators have such a diversity in character! Shes so sweet and interesting. And you go queen for telling Bolin to just be himself and not act weird! Queen!

Kya: ICON what more can I say? Shes amazing!! She recognized Zaheer and i didnt even recognize him.

Lin: I WILL NEVER FORGIVE HER FOR BREAKING NAGAS BALL that being said.. absolute!! Queen!! Dude her character development was insane!! Good for her!!

Bumi: I KNEW HE COULD AIR BEND AT SOME POINT! I was so shocked that's literally the first thing they show this entire season tho!! I thought that maybe they'd introduce it later. Anyway!! You go Bumi!! Hes so strong and passionate. And hes also super funny!! I really like him a lot

Suyin: I KNEW SHE WAS ALSO TOPHS DAYGHTER!! Anyway I dont trust her.... shes off. Also the red lotus is all about not wanting queens and other rulers and one of the first thing she says is that she thinks queens are outdated. Idk. I just think it's a little convenient how her most trusted lie detector was a red lotus without her knowing

Meelo: MY CHILD!! I love love love Meelo so much!! What a passionate man. He chaotic and lowkey psychotic?? The only child I want

Varrick: we also got very little of him but hes the funniest bitch in the room. This mf makes me laugh my ass off at all times

I LOOOOVVEEEE HOW THE CREATORS OF AVATAR TREAT DISABILITIES AS SOMETHING THAT CAN MAKE YOU STRONG IN YOUR OWN WAY AND NOT AS SOMETHING THAT MAKES YOU UNABLE TO DO ANYTHHNG!!! ( also remember in atla when they were in that crand canyon thingie when the tour guide was like I'm nothing without arms. Yes. Anyway once again men ain't shit)

Desna: also very little lines and I don't remember what he said and if he even said anything but he was next to eska so I'm sure it was iconic.

Ikki: we didnt get a lot of her this season, but she is still my princess!!!

Kai: I LOVE HIM !! WHAT A MAN!!! also Jinora and him???so cute!!

Overall thoughts:

This season!! It left me in tears, I literally completely broke down at the end holy shit!! I cannot WAIT to get started on the next season!!!!!!!!

Season 1 & season 4 of korra were tea tho! Like when the villain has an ideology its beef

Season 1 was underrated. They set up the story well like the teas they were serving there and like the small complexities and conflicts which were accurately portrayed. And how peoples relationship with power was. That was rly good. But the industrial era and the whole radio recap thing threw a lot of us off and made some of us a bit disgruntled. Bc we kinda were expecting ATLA again. Its deff something people should re watch now.

That being said i dont remember much of season 4 it was kinda forgetable. Guvira seemed like one of those villains with whom a good redemption arc would be really sexy. (Idr if she had one she might have) but at that point i was tired of watching Korra bc she never got to chill and be a normal person and like the whole ptsd thing was kinda hmmm... It wasnt doing me great.

Oddly enough i loved season 3 the most. I feel it had interesting side plots. Good development. More and better fleshed out characters. The world itself was better expanded. We get to see more places and now spirits are around anyway and its sexy. We finally see real effect and consequences of Korra's actions etc... It felt very free. And the villains while didn't really have a motivation esp not a valid one. Were interesting and their dynamics with each other also were a huge plus. Their skills deff sexy af too.

There was a lot of bisexuality going on. And zaheer was getting pegged.

Like all in all it was the most colourful and free season to me. I just wish Zaheer stood for something and wasn't a fake deep tumblr girl that quotes Rumi.

im thinking about sp/op season 5 again and how i feel similar to when i watched season 6 of vol//tron, in a sesne that i really do not care about canon or what creators say is or isnt canon, for me it just. exists on the same level as fanon.

(im putting my reasons “why” under the cut bcos its long and im just basically rambling to myself):

i mean. its not AS BAD as v*ltron.

and yes, i am thankful that we got gay kisses and gay relationships confirmed on screen, (netossa saying “my wife” on screen? very good) its really important and all that stuff but you know what, id love if they actually put effort into their endgame relationship that (supposedly) is a “heart of she-ra” (and didnt make a stereotypical villian out of their only (very alien like looking) nb rep from whom they made a big deal out of to just use them in one episode for comedy and then delete their existence until 5 second finale cameo (no im not still salty about dt what r u talkin abt)) i think we should expect more from show on streaming platform, especially from dreamworks that was met with outrage after their queetbaiting with v*ltron.

i know i may sound like priviliged bicz but i expected catr///adora kiss in one way or another, at very least in the background. i didnt expect for them to say “i love you” and to make a dope utena ass scene though. and i did like this scene, it was a little bit cheesy but i like cheese... i didnt really enjoy the journey to the shop to get that cheese though.

the line “you never gave up on me” makes me go “... :\ “ because... adora litterally did give up on her. remember how season 3 ended? remember the look adora gave catra? remember her punch? remember that catra almost destroyed reality and actually killed angella? remember that scorpia left catra because she couldnt bear catras abuse? and then forgave her after seconds without full apology? the redemption showed in season 5 works only if we forget about seasons 2-4, because. man. was that rushed and unrealistic. i believe there was too much focus on catr/////adora and too little on catra herself. like. i believe catra would benefit if she spend more time away from adora, maybe if she escaped from prime on her own or smth idk, maybe she would discover something about herself outside of “im in love with adora” maybe she could get redemption arc ala zuko or some szit. catra deserved to be her own person and not just “the girl that loves adora”. her whole being revolves around adora, its honestly not healthy (i mean she almost destroyed reality out of spite, if this doesnt say something about her relationship with adora idk what does). like, is this really a romantic story we all wanted? for me its very unsatisfying.

and i still think people forgave/trusted catra too quickly, and yes i think that about perfuma too. i honestly think it would be really good messege if at least one person didnt forgive catra and for catra to heal despite that, because! when u used to be a szitty person of course not everybody will forgive u! but u still can try to heal! u cant and shoudlnt aspire for all people to forgive you and writers had an oppurtinity to show that with catra but i guess not.

adora got a little more space to be her own person but it still feels like she didnt live up to her own potential and in the end her whole being ended up being revolved around catra anyway, even tho season 3 finale stated otherwise.

this cartoon could be a great show about forgivness and redemption but... its just not. just because it has gay kiss in it it doesnt make it automatically great, you know? there was a massive decrease in quality in the last season.

same with vol*ron, there was a massive decrease in quality in last seasons but just because they confirmed shiro to be gay and there was gay kiss at the end it doesnt make it automatically great. thats why these two shows feel familiar to me (and in its style kinda, also in advertising themselves with “diversity” (v*ltron saying “we have a queer character!” and then sidelining him, and shera saying “we have a nonbinary character!” and then sidelining them) but for some reason people seem to forgive shera for its shortcomings, maybe bcos it wasnt as tragic, and we got actual representation but my point still stands.

(also i see some people say that “shera will open doors for lgbt+ creators” and im just here looking at legend of korra and su like--- hey, doors are already open, shera may open them a little wider or make sure they wont close but this show isnt some gay cartoon jegus....  did we all forget that we got gay wedding and gay kiss on national television for kids, these cartoons did so much for lgbt+ creators and people seem to ignore it just because they prefer shera/dont like su anymore. i truly believe we wouldnt get such great catra////dora kiss without rub///pphire wedding)

I couldn’t even scream when you set up the perfect Aelin identity reveal before completely blueballing us and then um having everything that could possibly go wrong all go wrong

I love how good you are at writing characters like HOW DO YOU DO THIS THEIR EMOTIONS FEEL SO REAL THEY FEEL LIKE REAL PEOPLE? airplanes dry my eyes out but I was still able to tear up when they weren’t talking to each other?? When she burned her house down?? When Aelin got Amon’d??? that last one I fucking knew was coming but fuckkk

You had me feeling bad for Rowan to hating him for ignoring her to damn he’s a badass to me fully simping for him the last few chapters (especially in that renaissance cloak woof) when he was taking care of her. I was playing ‘Burn’ by BANKS and holy shit it just fit his POV so well

Dude they just love each other so much. She really let him in and gave up her magic which is such an essential part of her to save him 😭 and he is so patient and just cares so much and she’s who she is and loves her no matter who she is and magic or nah 😭😭 The scene where Aelin couldn’t light a match to make a fire and the carranam scene actually broke me lol. Good thing I was off the plane by then. And when they finally got together. Like i almost couldnt believe it 😭😭😭 'Only' and 'Let you go' by RYX r my soundtrack pick for those scenes! And by the way the whole her being cold without her magic is such a great choice cause you couldve just been like yeah shes sad cause she cant do magic anymore but here its yo hey she literally lost a part of who she was and it actually is having a physical and mental impact on her ugh and then the way you wrote them starting to work through the trauma (esp the avoidance bubble they would go into) and develop their relationship at the same time is just so......good. GREAT writing

It probably sounds like I just cried and silently freaked out the whole time but I also laughed i mean the bits where Fenrys and Lorcan both knew who FLAME GIRL © was but Rowan didn’t were gold. And drunk Aelin ofc

Ok but you also had your evil moments too like the cliffhangers (im still counting them as cliffhangers even if I didn’t encounter them as such for the new chapters) or when you literally made me fall in love with how cool Dorian was only to kill him off the same chapter lol. But at the same time I love it cause then there’s actually stakes and i love how more and more things get revealed (like the fabric sample from when they first met 30 chapters ago coming back into play?? Big brain moves). And with them finally figuring out Arobynn is a villain and going into the lab…damn I can’t wait for your full genius to be revealed. AND FOR THEM TO LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER!

What do you think about korra x opal?

im pretty neutral about it?? to be completely honest ive only watched book 3 the one time so i barely even have a concept of who opal is as a unique character, let alone how she relates to other characters/korra in particular, so............ yeah

i will say that they look great together and That One Scene of them airbending looks v nice and sweet so like. i dont not ship it i just dont have really strong feelings abt it. power to you if you do ship it tho!!!

Korra: I do not understand how people dont like her. Shes spunky and doesnt take shit and she has her own opinions... definitely a Taurus with ADHD you cannot change my mind. I feel like the reason ppl dont like her is purely based on the fact that shes a poc and a woman with a strong opinion and mindset and we're all taught that that's not acceptable. Ppl just can't stand that shes not like Aang. ANYWAY I LOOOOVVVEEEEE HER AND I RELATE TO HER SO MUCH I know shes not canonically ADHD but I still feel very represented

Jinora: sooo different from what I imagined! I thought she'd be more of an extrovert!! Shes so cute tho and I love how shes clearly a daughter of Tenzin!!

Overall thoughts so far:

OKAY SO I've waited with watching this for such a long time bc I just figured it would disappoint me bc I love Atla so so much!! So I never got to watching it always coming up with excuses for myself. Now that it came to NETFLIX though, I had no excuses left and boy am I happy I didn't. This show has already been amazing so far. There are certain things I still dont really understand but I'm sure we'll get clarification on that (why couldn't Korra airbend and spirit thing yk why and how can Amon take away powers? Etc) I'm so excited to watch more! It hold my attention so so well, I love the characters (I LOVE KORRA!!!) Anyway I was not disappointed and that was a great surprise!! I'm gonna start on season 2 and write another on of these when I finish that!
