meme || @sonofirishseas || an i’ll be back kiss
Her strong tail pushed her forward as she rose up from the waves. She hadn’t taken to her mermaid form in many a month since coming to meet the quick witted pirate, but her responsibility as a daughter of the sea king had come to bare down on her. The young mermaid had to leave the world above the waves to return home for it had become stressful times in the undersea kingdom with the sea witch making a stir.
The soft kiss was tinged with the ever present taste of sea salt as her lips pressed gentle against the corner of Jack’s lips. Letting her body fall gently back beneath the waves, Ariel allowed the waves to bob her as it pleased. Blue eyes looked up at Jack’s, sadness glittered within her eyes. The very thought of saying goodbye to Jack and his crew ( and to the freedom the land brought her ) was a scene she had hoped to never have to play out, yet it was a scene that had arrived nonetheless.
“I’ll be back. I promise.”

His eyes slowly widened at the sight of her tail. The clerk had heard of them in fairytales when he was just a boy. He quickly scoots over to her side, reaching out to her.
"H-have you ever tried...?" He whispered ever so gently.
Mercer slowly gets closer and closer before slowly setting his hand upon her shoulder. He sighs and slowly draws closer to her, "You can..." he whispered.
MERCER.
He furrows his brows gently, “Please… let me repay the favor of you saving my life.” He whispered, slowly reaching out his leather hand to her.
“I promise… I won’t bite.”
The Clerk gives a soft chuckle before getting upon his knees to lean a bit closer to her body. He seemed more merciful then normal, being more friendly because his life was spared.
Oh, how she wished she could have legs instead of her tail. What a happy task it would have been to slip from the rolling waves and onto the warm sandy beach on two legs instead of hiding herself within the swells.
“– I can’t…even if I wanted to, I can’t.”
Slowly she turned her back to him, her gaze falling to the ocean’s surface as her tail fin was exposed in one easy move. “I’m a mermaid. I can’t leave the sea.”

Hands pressed against the soft paper before closing the book from her place. She hadn’t gotten far into, but already she had so many questions. “I was reading it, and I noticed there’s no mention of mermaids. God made all the fish and all the animals then made man and gave man dominion over all the animals,” a pause, brow furrowed in slight confusion, “Am I an animal in God’s eyes? I mean, I’m not human. Do you have dominion over us?”

She’d never experienced the unbridled cruelty of man until she’d been snatched from her shopping excursion. She’d been on her way back to the ship, having taken a moment to herself without the company of James’ most trusted men, when the burlap bag had been thrown upon her head and her world went dark.
It was now that she knew their cruelty, of what her father had always warned her about when it came to humans. Breathing was labored as she rested her head in the corner of the cramped, murky water filled glass coffin that was her holding cell. Air was taken from the smallest hole within the coffin as she laid near limp within it’s confines. Her tail bent in the middle in an uncomfortable manner, body ached like never before.
“Sebastian,” words soft and weak as she looked for her companion that she knew had stowed away within her skirt pockets, “You have to leave. Find James and tell him where I am...”

( @sonofirishseas )
Jack did not know why he had held back so long in his feelings for the woman, nor what gave him the sudden courage and impulse to act on them. It didn’t seem to matter either way, now that he had her.
He kissed her warmly, heatedly. Not like the kisses they had shared before, which had ranged between chaste and innocent to loving yet hesitant. As if afraid to reach for more, afraid to hope that the person on the other end might care as deeply. Might want as much.
Jack was known to take absurd risks, to dare what others might not, and to gamble despite any odds set against him and his luck usual held out. But with his heart…he was far more careful. It was a tender, fragile thing and Sparrow, if he were really honest with himself for a moment, did not blame Jones at all for what he had done with his own heart, locking it up as he had. There was no pain to compare to that of heartache, in all it’s terrible, brutal shades.
But for whatever the reason at that moment, the pirate had decided to cast all that aside. To take the risk.
With her pinned between him and the wall, Ariel’s body melting against his, Jack only grew more emboldened, deepening the kiss, hands holding her close before eventually pulling back just enough to let them both breathe freely.
More than anything, Ariel had wanted the kisses to become something more than what they were. Even in her naivety of the word, she knew she wanted to experience something deeper than just a chaste kiss.
But it was in the moment that it was soon to turn into something more, something deeper, the young mermaid shied away. Feeling as if she were not yet ready, though she adored the pirate, she felt the shyness overwhelming her. Cheeks were a rosy red as she looked away from him, gaze focused on the ship’s wooden planks.
“I want to,” words were hushed, meant for only Jack’s eyes. Shyness and embarrassment mingled within her thin frame and it was in those emotions that she felt ashamed to look upon the man she’d come to admire and cherish. “I really do but...not right now. Jack,” finally she looked up at him with large eyes, pleading for him not to think that it was anything he had done, “I’m really nervous. I don’t think I’m ready just yet,” a pause as a hand pressed upon his chest just above his heart, “You’re not angry at me, are you?”

Moving slowly towards the female pirate, Ariel was uncertain in her next move. Too many times, she had heard the worst about pirates. The pirate could cause major harm to her if a sword or dagger was thrust into her.
“Are you okay,” she ventured to ask, hoping that if she offered to help the other should she need rescuing that her life may be spared if she did move in closer.

Jack was slow to make his way across the deck, moving with far more careful and deliberate steps. He was nursing his side it seemed, head down and hat pulled low. He looked up at her when she spoke and stopped within a few feet of her on the dark deck. “Apologies, luv,” he murmured, smiling at her though it was thinner and more strained than was normal. “Caught up with business in port…few old acquaintances who wanted to catch up…” He winced and gripped the rail for support. “But I got what we were after. The rest is just details. You needn’t’ve worried for me. Still got a few tricks up my sleeve.”
He dug within his coat and produced something for her, a string of pink pearls, in the center of which was strung a uniquely colored shell. He presented it to her, “Don’t know what they planned to do with it, other than sell it for a nice bit of coin. But it’s back with you now. Your mother’s…wasn’t it?”
“Jack,” she moved towards him on bare feet across the deck. A hand pressed gently against his side once he gripped the rail. Ariel hadn’t wanted him to risk his body or his life on something for her. “I think your tricks are failing you if you’re coming back looking like this. What could have made you --”
At the revelation of her mother’s pearls, her breath caught in her throat. It had been quite the number of years since she had seen them and they had simply believed them to have been lost in the wreckage that had taken her mother’s life.
“You found these,” Ariel asked, finally bringing her attention back to Jack as she reached for the necklace. She knew Jack had held misplaced guilt for her mother’s death simply because he was on the ship that had lost control and crashed into the lagoon, yet she told him that he had nothing to feel guilty for. It had all been an accident that had cost the lives of so many. Without a second thought, Ariel threw her arms around Jack’s shoulders, hugging him tight against her. “I can’t believe you found them!”

The Admiral had been alerted there was another mermaid on shore. And fearing the worst, nor wishing anyone to find one of Ariel’s siblings, friends, or acquaintances, James rushed past his men to find the dripping girl standing there with a question on her tongue. .
And then, when the Admiral stood before her, she asked with great concern. James did not answer her right away, instead .. he took off his brocaded coat and slipped it around Attina’s shoulders. “ Gillette, fetch her a warm, dry clothes , Groves, handle tonight’s patrol schedule until I’ve finished here. Right this way Miss. We shall discuss this in my cabin. “
Gillette came rushing a few moments later with a white shirt and extra naval breeches that might fit a more petite frame, and James escorted his sister-in-law into his private cabin.
It had been no secret that the eldest of Triton’s daughters truly feared humans. It was the very reason why Ariel had not held such heart break for Attina’s absence from the wedding. She couldn’t begrudge her for fearing something so strongly with all the memories of their mother weighing on her just as she knew Attina would not begrudge her for marrying a human. She only surfaced into the human world in an effort to protect her sister from an oncoming threat towards the daughters of Triton.
Yet it was in a sisterly worry that she forced herself to the surface, that she forced herself to face the humans in which Ariel had surrounded herself with, with the one she married. If her sister trusted them then she felt that she could trust them as well. The authority in which her brother-in-law spoke to his men with struck her with similarity. Funny how it was her sister, who was known to rebel from such authority, had married someone that held authority over others.
Once inside the warmth of the cabin, Attina moved to hide herself as she changed into the warmer clothes which fit far too loose upon her slender frame. Once clothed, she stepped out to speak with him, authority figure to authority figure. “My sister,” Attina continued on, her voice level and with restrained emotion as a good queen to be must hold to her words. “There’s a sea witch that hates our father. I heard Father talking about her threats. None of us are safe. She means to hurt my sisters and I from what I’ve gathered. As queen to be, I can’t leave Atlantica for too long, but you will keep an eye on Ariel, won’t you?”

Standing before the human she sensed he held a mermaid’s heart, Attina was uncertain of it. He was handsome, for a human, and he was a man that seemed to hold a respect for the sea, a regard she knew her baby sister would find attractive. She’d observed them together only hours before, yet she needed to know for certain that her baby sister was okay, that she was safe with these humans.
As the oldest, she remembered what had happened to their mother in vivid details. In part, the soon to be queen envied her baby sister. Ariel, to her knowledge, had remembered little – if anything – of their mother’s death. If Ariel had any memory, Attina held a certainty that she would fear humans as was the norm for merkind.
The mermaid stood upon the deck of his ship, near naked and dripping wet. Shivers born of both fear and the chill of the air upon her flesh rattled over her body. The mermaid princess pulled her found cloth and wrapped it over her form for modesty’s sake – one her youngest sister had failed to learn upon her first venture to the dry world. Attina knew well enough that she could not convince Ariel to come back home, to where she belonged, but she knew Ariel would not be pulled from her human bed where she know slept with a lighter heart.
“My sister,” worry dripped from her words, a pleading resonance undercoated her question, “is she safe with you?”

She could taste the rum on his lips as he stole a kiss. It wasn’t out of the way for such an action, it was a quite ordinary act between the two. But his hand upon her hip and the gentle push towards the wall was something altogether new. Her hand fell to his chest as the stolen kiss continued on. Lips parted as her back pressed flush against the wall. A soft hum slipped from her, rumbling against his lips upon her own, as she nearly swooned in his arms.

Scales faded and soft flesh took hold. A pair of legs remained where a tail had once been and with a slow movement, Ariel took hold of the ship’s siding to pull her near naked body up. Without thought to her naked state, the young mermaid turned temporary human wobbled in her place as she tried to find her balance on weak legs.
“It only works on a water though,” she offered, though her smile remained bright, “I can’t go on actual land or anything, but I have legs for now!”

❝ This is a secret. Do you understand me? ❞

Her brain silently kept begging him to let her see what was hidden way. Curiosity had always gotten the best of her and as Ariel waited patiently to be shown what his secret was, she felt her giddiness shivering throughout her small frame.
“Yes. I won’t tell. I promise,” Ariel offered, eyes bright while a soft smile curved upon her lips. She knew how private the captain was and to be shown something he deemed a secret must mean that it was important to him.
“Come on,” a hand pressed against his hip without thought as she made an attempt to look passed him with the thought that he was hiding his secret behind his back. “Let me see.”

Taking a seat in what was left of the captain’s quarters, the young mermaid was uncertain of her fate with these men -- well the spiritual remains of men. Certainly, she held a confusion for such a thing as within old tales, it had been said that humans went on to a happier place where their souls were free, unlike the merfolk who supposedly held no soul whatsoever. Wrapping her arms tight around her small frame, as the thinning Spanish flag wrapped around her did little to keep her warm, Ariel looked up at the broken shell of a man.
“What happened to you? You don’t look like any sailor I’ve seen before,” Ariel ventured, words carefully chosen as she tried her very best to remain calm in such a perilous situation. “...I wasn’t going to hurt anyone, if that’s why you’re keeping me here. I don’t hurt people.”

“Wouldn’t that go against my whole being of not hurting humans,” she offered, smile soft and sweet as she did her utmost best to help the pirate catch back up to his lost ship once more.
How Jack managed to always become separated from the Pearl, Ariel would never know. The sea breeze picked up and red hair whipped in the wind as dolphins played off in the distance, keeping a safe space away from the constant paddling of the oars sliding through the sea waters.
“I’m a nice mermaid, remember?”

Keeping his wrists her grasps and her knees upon his thighs, Ariel hovered above him with an impish delight etching over her entire being. She was in a particular playful mood when it came to the pirate beneath her weight and she wasn’t so certain that she wanted to let him go free just yet.
When Jack spoke about terms of negotiation, the young mermaid couldn’t help but giggle at his words. She’d heard about his colorful stories from the crew and she had heard stories of other pirates and the deviousness they could partake in.
“And here I thought pirates didn’t negotiate surrender?”
