Dear Draven,
Sooooo, today's finally the month huh? how long as it been since we both saw each other again? Man...we go WAY back... I still remember the time when I arrived here in the states, Lets just say, I'm the an awkward bean back then and im the same awkward bean now. But you?...Till this day I'm not sure how we ended up as friends, heh just kidding, im thankful for that. I still remember all the shenanigans you pulled while we were outside of class. Pffft, i admit, those lowkey made my day even if it got both of us in trouble, hmmmp
And now here comes the dreaded day. Truth to be told? I already had feelings for you back then, I know we promised no secrets, however... I knew you had stuff planned and knowing how deadset you are onto something? I simply didn't want to drag you down and respected your choices...and also the "no secrets thing"? to be fair you didn't tell me where you were going to work either. So i guess that makes us even
And now low and behold!! Who knew that we'd meet again in the SAME damn foundation. Couldn't believe my eyes for one second and neither did you!! You should have seen the look on your face when you saw me again XD. Ngl, your dad is intimidating as hell when I finally saw him in person. You told me countless stories about him remember? But im glad we're on great terms. And now fast foward to this day, all im saying is...
My life in general would've sucked if I never had you by my side...Mushy, and cheesy i know...and even if we've been dating for years now, I still can't believe I'd reunite with you let alone establish a relationship with you...so with that, I love you so damn much Draven...
PS: I beat you to giving a valentines letter first. I know juuuuust show mushy and cheesy you could get too :P
Your shy but appreciative GF
-Soyeon
[Disclaimer: Letters To Those You Hold Dear (Valentine's Edition) is a special event I'm holding from February 13th - February 23rd 11:59 PM. Find the guidelines HERE so you can send a letter or two to those you hold dear <3.]
Dear Soyeon,
I guess we were kinda wild back then now that you mention it! It's been an amazing while with you though. I forget how long sometimes. You know how it is, days start to blur together, but with you, everything feels timeless. Haven't heard the term 'bean' in a while either. You're really bringing me back. I've always been a social butterfly! It was only fate I'd come and talk to you and eventually, we'd become what we are today.
I couldn't... I couldn't really tell you what I was doing at the time? You know that. You work here too now. The Foundation is on everyone's ass about secrecy. My father, the man that he is, had even stricter restrictions for me. Growing up, I've always been in my father's shadow and grip. I couldn't risk you finding something out the Foundation quite literally axes people for if they're not in a graceful mood (amnestics always work better in my perspective). But, seeing you work at the Foundation was something entirely new! I was... It was a mixture of emotions seeing you here. I'm not sure if I can laugh about it or cringe at how I reacted because I was certainly less than graceful.
Things got better in my life after we rekindled our relationship. You've been a constant source of happiness for me, and I cannot imagine life without you as it exists now.
All of my love,
Draven

It works very much like illusions. Ranbob can see him but can't touch him. While Dream can touch him (though it feel like more of a faint touch). The entire time Ranbob feels like he's dreaming but due to physical evidence, like notes left by Dream, he knows it isn't a dream. He's just kinda existing. But in actuality he's not completely "there", sometimes he is aware of what's going on (though he never remembers more often than not) but that's when Dream allows it, other than that he's either floating aimlessly in the void or dreaming. Not aware of what's happening.
Definitely, Enderman tend to be 7 ft+. Infact when traveling and Enderman spot Ranbob, they always voice their worry about him being so short. They know he's a hybrid so he was always going to be shorter than them, but he shouldn't have been this short. His growth is permanently stunted. Its a miracle he even got those 2 inches to be honest. Ran was definitely caught off guard seeing Ranbob so short. But quickly dismissed it in favor of attacking him. But later on as time passes, he can't dismiss the unease and concern he gets when he thinks about the difference so easily as he did eailer. The Gladiators notice right away but don't comment on it, the Fishermen think Ranbobs height is normal so when they meet Ran and learn Enderman hybrids typically grow that big and bigger their caught off guard, Cletus and Charles attempt to question Ran what its like to be so tall but Benjamin stops them.
He did, the Dream Mask has a small bit of it broken off due to it being dropped (Ranbob didn't break it. He suspects maybe when it was being transferred it got dropped in its holding box and thats what broke it). Ranbob picked it up because he meant to throw it away, but he forgot too. Giving Dream more time to get a hold on him. They talked about whatever came to mind at first since Benjamin didn't want to start off with the rough questions. But eventually the two did start to talk about what happened to Ranbob and who/what Dream was.
Dream does not consider it important enough because he thinks he's never going back there. So it falls into disrepair and gets all dusty with some mold even growing in the room.
Dreams petty and likes being in control of everything. But Dream would just kinda wander, making sure no ones alive. Every now and again he'll get bored and just destroy something. The fishermen explored and read about the history of Mizu while they were there, then after Ranbob attacked them spent most of the time arguing about what to do with him.
It just leads to Cletus being mean/rude to Ranbob and taking much longer than the others to be comfortable around him. If that's what you mean.
-------------------
Yes! When it was down to just 4 people left alive in Mizu, Ran stumbled upon the 4th person dead, then it all kind of clicks in his head, as the only other person currently alive is a Council Member, that it has to be his brother. So he rushes off to find the Council Member so they can stop Ranbob, only to find Ranbob standing over his dead corpse. Thats when the chase around Mizu ticks off that ends with Ran fleeing Mizu.
Cause while spiders are passive in daytime, creepers aren't, and don't burn in the light. Plus they are loud with their explodes (yet oddly quiet) which can give his position away.
Eh I'll say. Their not really super common because mixing them can cause serious side effects during and after mixture. But the healing, sleep aids, and infection mixtures are common as they've been figured out and can safely be made. Fun fact: Subbin actually has an entire community and an official place in the government for figuring out potion mixtures, making new ones, and making the mixing process as safe as possible.
The group doesn't really use the mixtures much, expect for Rans sleep aid and a every now and again healing mixture when a Pit match goes wrong. Cause Grievous used to intern in a potion shop and learned all about them then.
He really did.
Your right! Not many people traverse it. Because he was a Technoblade follower, and they typically get taught the bare basics of surviving in environments like the Nether, deserts, snow, caves, etc in their teachings. He got da book from his Idol teachers, everyone in his Idol group got a book as well.
You can ask! I welcome any and all questions.
There's gold coins (I forget the actual in-game name oop) ore deposits in the Nether, so he mines that. Not any specific ones, cause there is still a language barrier and a mostly gesture barrier (expect for the universal ones like wait, ok/good, no harm, etc).
They made a group decision to try to check the Nether on a whim. Though mostly cause one guy just wouldn't shut up about it. They found a broken portal and managed to repair it enough to enter.
The Fishermen and Ranbob where kinda confused (cause Ran hadn't fully told them about his time on the run.) But expressed sympathy at his house being burned down. Jackie and Grievous wanted to search it for anything usable, Ran didn't let em cause he thinks there's nothing left. Watson shoots Ran a sympathetic look and declared that he wants to keep moving to find shelter. Benjamin quickly agreeing and the group moves on.
---------Tip of The Iceberg-----------
He does not expect in all of their times he's still the God of the world.
Honestly, most of them were fine. Bad was the only one who was mad and wasn't ok with it. The Masquerade, The Pit, Sam, Sapnap, Quackity, Foolish, Ranboo, Skeppy, Tubbo, Tommy, and Karl all say the Egg wrote it because they all have had experience with the Egg. The Haunted Mansion, The Wild West, George, Fundy, Eret, Jack, Niki, and Puffy all say XD because they've either had no experience with the Egg or believe in XD's existence. Philza and Technoblade actually go both ways. (If I forgot someone, oops).
Technoblade, Phil, Niki, The Pit, The Wild West, Puffy, Sapnap, and Sam are all on the Frontline. While the others are all split between research into the egg (The Masquerade is in this one of course), and running tests. Fundy is a runner, delivering orders, requests, or new information. Foolish is on both the researching, testing, and frontlines, he is on the frontlines when needed but otherwise is researching and testing. Karl is typically somewhere with one of the many Traveler groups. Quackity, Eret, and Sam (when not on frontlines) are on planning duties.
The Egg is strong enough to propose a real and constant threat to the groups. Everyone is typically on the move to avoid the reaching of the Egg and its Eggpire.
Bad hasn't gotten what he wants, which is Skeppy. And as he has "opened his eyes" a bit he sees the hypocrisy, manipulation, and lies that surround the Egg and wants out.
----------------------
Ye ye Brothers AU sorry.
The fishermen get to their home, wake up the next day, and Ranbob is already making a field for wheat and potatoes. Benjamin fucking squawks and races out to make Ranbob stop. And Isaac eventually has to come out and help cause Ranbob is refusing to leave. Cletus laughs at Ranbob and makes fun of him but stops when he sees Charles sadly staring at him. A silent ask to stop.
He does but Porkius is chill and let's the Gladiators do whatever they want as long as they are still in fighting condition for matches and gives them money every week. Plus he's chill and is kinda friends with them. But sometimes Porkius has them go to extravagant parties with him. They all hate going, not just Ran. Mostly cause the rich people are snobs and either 1. Constantly insult them in conversation than act surprised when they get mad at them and report it to Porkius. 2. Talk with them but talk exclusively about themselves and are insensitive to the Gladiators. But sometimes there's actually people at the parties who are genuinely curious and kind and want to get to know the Gladiators. Those conversations are pleasant and the Gladiators, no matter who it is, actively enjoy the conversation.
Ran has always been mischievous. Even witnessing murder, being traumatized, hunted constantly, and fighting non-stop hasn't changed that. If anything he got more mischievous over time.
Something extra I wanted to share:
-There is music in world and the player the Gladiators share get brought on the trip so they can play music the entire time.
-Ran and Grievous fight over who gets to pick music often.
-Fun fact about why I did this: Every single part of this story and all others has been either created by or inspired by music. For example the Tip of The Iceberg AU was solely inspired by the song True North (by Vocal Line), while Brothers AU was made from Ruler of Everything (by Tally Hall) and partly Mind Electric (by Miracle Musical). So I wanted to include music somehow. (I actually have a entire playlist with music that I've used for certain parts of the Brothers AU.)
Brothers AU:
Interesting, interesting. What triggers these 'dreams'? Can Dream do it, or is it like just something that happens?
I'm assuming only the brothers would know what the Endermen are saying, but there's also body language, so how does everyone react to that behavior? Do one of the brothers ever tell them what's being said, or? What's everyone's thoughts on Ranbob's height, seeing as the Fishermen were surprised, and the Gladiators immediately noticed?
How does Benjamin feel about what he hears? Is he a bit skeptical at first, or fully believing Ranbob's words?
So the room's in disrepair, interesting. At some point, it's mentioned that they go back there, I think, so does that strike anyone as odd?
He destroyed stuff? Like just general items or artifacts? How did Ranbob feel, if/when he was aware?
------------------
Why didn't he assume it was the Council Member? What clues led him to his brother instead?
Understandable.
Oh, that's really interesting!
World building galore, fantastic!
Who was the one guy?
He thinks? Was there something left then?
-----------------
Tip Of The Iceberg AU:
Still the god? He didn't expect that? Was someone else supposed to be? If so, who? What's his reaction to learning such?
Bad seems to be straying from the egg, does he intend to leave it? Or does it have a way to keep him?
Do we have any particular groups here? People who fight or work well together, and kind of drift to one another? What sort of dynamics do we get with all of this, especially since everyone's on the move constantly to avoid the Eggpire.
------------------
Brothers AU:
Benjamin: Whatcha got there?
Ranbob: Excessive labor when I should be resting.
Benjamin, gasping: NO!
What are the parties typically like? Do they behave or cause havoc? Switch it up? Anyone in particular they don't hate talking to there?
Always mischievous, just better at hiding it. Wait, that means Ranbob would have known he was like that, wouldn't he? He'd know exactly what to expect. Would anyone else? Either way, that should be amusing.
------
What kind of music do they have, and what does everyone prefer to listen to?
(Time to go on a song-spree!)

Saw you were taking a break from this blog so no rush! Just a thought I keep having, since jealous possessive Sooga is amazing. Suppose the boys had Link and Mipha over for dinner and Link is all goo-goo-eyed over Kohga because his cooking is so good? And Kohga of course just keeps making Sooga jealous by feeding Link until Sooga is just "will you two excuse us a moment" while he drags Kohga to the kitchen for the roughest, most possessive quickie of his life XD
Oh this is SUCH a good idea. We love a jealous Sooga here, folks!
“Linkie! Mipha! There’s the little couple!”
Kohga welcomed Kohga with a hug, and graced Link with a nod. Mipha chuckled, ever the bubbly babe as she was.
“Kohga! We’re SO glad you invited us for dinner! I wasn’t feeling like cooking tonight, actually, and Link...always makes too much.”
She gave him a side eye (best she could anyway, looked as scary as a kitten), and he rubbed the back of his head, a bit bashful. Kohga shook his head.
“Oh It’s my pleasure! I’ve been testing out some new recipes lately, I wanted you guys to be the first to try it. Not to mention It’s been SO long since you came to visit! Everyone misses seeing your little fishy face!”
He pinched at her cheek, making her blush something fierce. Ugh, precious little pearl, this girl. He motioned for them to come on in, just in time to catch Sooga setting up the table. He nodded at them, just as he was placing the glasses.
“Lady Mipha. Link.”
That was the best one could do in terms of greeting, at least when it came to a busy Sooga. Kohga had done all the cooking, it’d make sense that Sooga could pick up the slack. Kohga sat down, and Sooga was about to place his glass of wine next to him, when Link sat down right next to him. It was most likely just the fresh bread and butter being on that side of the table, but it didn’t halt Sooga’s jealousy. He huffed. No sense in being rude to a guest, even though the boy lacked manners. He was forced to put his glass next to Mipha’s seat, which he didn’t like. Nothing against Mipha personally, he just...didn’t like small, sweet women. Reminded him of too many things he wished he could forget. Kohga chuckled as he had Sooga pour him a glass of wine.
“Mipha! Are you feeding this boy? He’s already almost done with the damn basket!”
Link had helped himself to all the bread there, essentially licking the butter right off the cloth. Link was a good, brave boy, but his eating habits were just as bad as his gluttony. Not that Kohga minded. Mipha tried to excuse him, but he waved her off.
“Oh don’t say sorry, we love a boy with an appetite! I’ll feed him enough to get him right through winter! Sooga, soup first, please! And uh, another round of bread. Make that two.”
Sooga obeyed, bringing over bowls of soup, and fresh baskets of bread. Sooga insisted he wasn’t hungry, so he more or less came in and out, occasionally sipping his own wine. It was fine with Kohga, given what they had planned for after dinner. Link dug into his pumpkin soup, and he was clearly in love with it, given how he slurped at his bowl. Mipha chuckled, dainty as she ate her own portion. Kohga saw how hungry Link was, and felt almost pity for him. Boy wasn’t just hungry for food, he was hungry for GOOD food.
“Here, give this a shot, it’ll put a dent in your gut.”
Kohga made his own portion of creamy heart soup, and if he must say, it’s the best soup one could ever eat. He scooped a spoonful, before shoving it into Link’s mouth. Link sat there for a moment, before his face nearly exploded. Surprise surprise, Link loved HIS cooking. He more or less abandoned his empty bowl, in favor of facing Kohga, clearly eager for more. Link was full of courage, not table manners. Kohga chuckled, continuing to sit there and feed Link like a misbehaving mutt. Sooga came in with the next course, only to stop for a moment. Kohga was sitting here, spoon feeding Link soup, all while Mipha just sat there, chuckling. How inappropriate of her, not keeping a leash on her man. He cleared his throat as he walked in, setting more food down onto the table.
“Master Kohga, you are reinforcing improper behavior.”
“Oh hush Sooga, the poor thing is so thin! I can’t help it! Look at how he likes my food!”
Link was finished with his bowl of veggie curry in a hot second (as well as Mipha’s leftover portion of soup), and was currently looking at Kohga, clearly eager for more. Kohga chuckled as Link was more or less in his lap at this point, eagerly awaiting more food. To which, Kohga was more than happy to indulge. Mipha somehow didn’t look embarrassed, and Sooga couldn’t understand just why.
“I apologize for his appetite, I swear he had something to eat before we came over. If it’s so much of a trouble, I can-”
“Oh it’s fine, it’s fine! You guys are my guests! Let me feed you!”
Kohga had no hesitation to send Sooga back into the kitchen, continuing to feed Link from his own bowl of poultry curry. Sooga grumbled as he nearly slammed the plates into the sink. Link was always a thorn in his side, and Kohga’s obvious attraction to him only made him want to kick his ass more.
“Stupid. Pest. Nuisance.”
“Sooga! Go get the honeyed fruit, will you? It should still be warm!”
Sooga took it out of the fridge. He stared at the fruits in front of him. Kohga sat there, cooking and peeling these fruits with the freshest of honey, made his own ice cream on the side, and even gathered the honey all by himself. Link didn’t deserve something made with so much love and effort. He contemplated eating the whole plate in petty vengeance, but that would be going against Kohga’s orders. He sighed, and added the cooked fruit onto the plate, with a scoop of ice cream, topped off with even more of that thick, sweet honey sauce. He brought it to the table, and Link’s eyes shone in excitement. Of course he wanted this.
“Here you go, Master Kohga.”
Kohga nodded in thanks, then he picked a wildberry. It was sticky, given how the honey sauce dripped down his hand. Then he gave it to Link. Link accepted it, but the juiciness of the berry made the purple juices run down Kohga’s hand, alongside the honey sauce. Sooga was about to offer him a napkin, when Link had the gall. The NERVE, to hold Kohga’s hand, trail his tongue alongside his wrist, and shove his thumb right into his mouth. He kept it there for a moment, clearly licking up all he could, before he slowly pulled away, drool connecting his hand to Link’s mouth. It took EVERYTHING in Sooga not to slap him across his stupid, slutty face. Instead, he put his hand on Kohga’s chair, nearly cracking the wood.
“Master Kohga. There’s a problem in the kitchen. Please, come with me.”
“Sooga, you can totally handle it, can’t you?”
Master Kohga was LIKING this. Liking the notion of Link’s mouth cleaning him free of that sticky, sweet sauce. Sooga cleared his throat loudly.
“I cannot. Please, Master Kohga. Come. Into. The. Kitchen.”
“Finnnne. Mipha, Link, you guys keep eating, I’ll be right back.”
Kohga pushed himself out of the chair, following Sooga into the kitchen. Sooga slammed the door shut, leaning down to glare at Kohga.
“Don’t think I don’t see what you are up to, Master Kohga.”
“What? Little ol’ me? I’m just having dinner, Sooga!”
Kohga grinned, ducking past Sooga in order to get himself a fresh banana. Once he started eating it, he sat up on the counter. Sooga took the chance to pin Kohga between himself and the countertop.
“You don’t think I don’t see that? The way you’re letting him lick over you like some street dog. You don’t feed ME like that, why is HE so special?”
“First of all, you barely eat. Second of all, I’m feeding my guests. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really matter, does it? If little Linky gets hungry for some meat, why wouldn’t I put it right into his mouth?”
“He does NOT deserve to touch you.”
“I love how you’re SO mad, and SO jealous of me. It’s cute, because you can’t do jack shit, big boy. You can sit there and stew like soup, and you can’t do shit. My big, strong boy, gonna let his man get RAILED by a blonde twunk. Funny, honestly.”
Sooga watched as Kohga polished off his banana, giving him such a cocky, almost stuck up look. Sooga shortened whatever distance they had between them, putting his face RIGHT in front of Kohga’s.
“You really think I can’t do anything? You find me so inept?”
“Sooga, I know you are. Link can kick your ass, and rail mine in less than a few minutes. And you’d just sit there, and watch. Let’s face it, you don’t stand a chance.”
Kohga went so far as to flick the peel at him, teeth shining through his cocky grin. Sooga thought about keeping his cool. Then he thought about the way Link licked at his hand. And he lost. His. Mind. With a growl akin to a wild wolf, he put his hand over his mouth, and SLAMMED him backwards into the counter.
“You are MY Master. No one else’s. If I have to FUCKING show you, I absolutely will.”
Sooga held no hesitation, no mercy as he tore off his clothes, and shoved his cock right into his ass. Sooga was horny as HELL when he was viciously jealous, and Kohga’s ass was just where that anger wanted to go. He kept his hand over his mouth, despite the fact that Kohga grabbed at his hands, trying (rather weakly) to pry them off. It pissed Sooga off, seeing how much Kohga was enjoying his angry, violent thrusts.
“You use your hands, your WORDS to bewitch men. It is a talent that should only be for me. Only I should be for you. Not any other blademaster, not any PEASANT like him. I give you everything. Protection, my love, my COCK,”
He shoved himself extra hard into him, and he heard Kohga cry against his palm. He LIKED this. Of course he did, it was HIM, not Link, not any other man. HIM, and HIM alone.
“Everything you could want. From ME. I won’t let him touch you. Every time you even THINK of pulling THAT shit again, I want you to remember how I’m FUCKING you in this kitchen, with them right in the other room. You don’t do that stupid hand shit with him, you do it with ME.”
Sooga would NOT calm down. He removed his hand from his mouth, and shoved in two of his fingers right into his open, drooling, horny mouth. And Kohga loved it. Kohga was groaning and drooling over them, it only made him angrier. To think, Link wanted to touch this. Link wanted to have what was rightfully his. Moron. Idiot. Thinking he can touch HIS Master Kohga. His cock could NEVER slam into him like this, his cock could NEVER make Kohga as hard as he was right now. One might think Sooga was being too much, abusive even, but they both knew better. Kohga LOVED angry, greedy Sooga. He hated how he didn’t want to share, didn’t want a chance of anyone taking him away.
“No other man can stuff you so full of cum like I can. You want me to prove it? You want me to fucking SHOW you what I can do?!”
Sooga used his free hand to SMACK against Kohga’s ass, digging his nails into his ass, just shy of making Kogha bleed underneath his fingernails. Then he came, dick nestled deep into his ass, and held Kohga down so he could take it all. He stayed put, pinning Kohga down against the counter, making him take every last drop of cum. And when he finished cumming, he ever so slowly peeled his hand away, watching as his fingers dripped with his drool. Kohga’s lips were open, panting, and his whole frame was damn near shaking. Sooga was about to speak, when Kohga sat up, wrapping his arms around his neck and pressing their lips together. It was a wanting, firm kiss, and it damn near made Sooga swoon. He parted after a moment, a smirk at his lips.
“You, are one jealous, jealous boy, Sooga~. I like that about you. You should get jealous a lot more.”
Sooga looked down at the mess he had made. Both of their cum’s littered the floor, and Sooga couldn’t believe just how much he contributed to the mess. Sooga sighed.
“Don’t fool my love making for joy. I will NOT have you touch him. Do you understand me?”
Kohga could swoon. Jealous Sooga had such a deep, sexy voice, it made his legs turn to jelly.
“I’ll behave, I’ll behave~...”
He poked at his chin, leaning up to kiss his nose.
“Especially if daddy is gonna keep being SO mean to me.”
“Sweet words only get you so far, Master.”
He knelt down to graze his teeth against Kohga’s neck, and his weak little giggle only made Sooga FAR more angry towards Link.
“Kohga, Sooga! Is everything alright there?”
“Just fine, Mipha! Be out in a sec!”
Kohga took a hold of his hand, kissing the wet fingers oh so tenderly.
“Teach me another lesson, really quick. MAKE me behave.”
“With Pleasure, Master Kohga. Whatever rids that pest from your mind.”

Summary: Yua lives on a small town by the coast where stories about the people of the sea and their altercations with humans were common. One morning, during her usual walking by the beach, she spots something lying ahead, right where the sand and the water meet. She approaches it believing it is an animal, just to be proven wrong: that was the body of a male from the people of the sea.
N. A.: This is the Fantasy!AU I mentioned here before! I don’t know when I will finish it or how much chapters it will have, but I want it to be short and simple. I’m also posting it here to “clean” my draft list, so please don’t expect constant updates on this story XD

Chapter 1 - Morning Walk
“A thousand miles out to the sea bed
Found a place to rest my head”
(Florence and the Machine, Never Let Me Go)
Spring was on its second week in that land and the days of Winter winds and violent storms coming from the sea were over. It was easy to become used to the warm sunlight and the calm waves on the coast that came after them every year, and that was the reason why Yua started to rethink her decision of leaving the house to take her usual walk that particular morning: she reached the sand and haven’t walked more than a few meters when a cold breeze reached her, making her ask herself if she should have brought a coat. Maybe yes, but now that she was already there with her feet buried in sand and her hair soaked in salt air, she was not going back home; she came to take her morning walk, and she was not leaving without doing it.
However, the sea had experience with tenacious people, and that time it was determined to test her persistence. Little by little, the warm sun disappeared behind a thick layer of gray clouds slowly pushed by the wind, which was sending more and more shivers down her body at each step. Soon, the amount of sand carried by it started to interfere in her sight, and it was hard to see what was ahead. Yua felt the irritation growing inside her: what happened to the weather that day?
She was now convinced that going back home was the wisest thing to do in such conditions. Accepting her defeat with a sigh, she tied her hair to not have it on her eyes while walking with the wind on her back and crossed her arms around herself, preparing to leave.
It was when she saw it.
Not so far from her spot, there was a dark, large stain upon the white sand, right where the land met the waves. Yua narrowed her eyes, trying to understand what she was seeing. Was it a piece of a wrecked ship? Or a living creature? Maybe the waters became so agitated with that terrible wind that they threw it there, giving it no chance to go back.
She took a few steps towards it and confirmed that it was a creature. Was it a dolphin? A seal? Well, if it was an animal, it must be too heavy for her to take it back to the water all by herself. She could seek for help in the city. But were they going to help her? She couldn’t be sure.
Whatever the case, the creature wasn’t moving, which increased the possibility of it being hurt. Standing there would only lead it to death, if it hasn’t happened already, so the girl walked toward it with determination, if not to do something for it, at least to try and understand what happened.
As she approached it, she start to think that the animal was too big to be a dolphin, and to slim to be a seal. What was it, then? She would have to look closer to find out. Now the curiosity has overcome her plans of leaving the beach, and she found herself almost running to reach the being.
And then her path ended up in an abrupt way: she was just a few steps apart from the creature and held her breath when she looked closer at it.
It wasn’t an animal as she first supposed. It was a person. Not a human, though – a person from the people of the sea.
For the appearance of their upper bodies carried a reasonable resemblance with the human figure, it was safe to say that the creature was a male. He was lying on his belly, his arms stretched up his head; in his hand he held tight some black stripes that showed to be a species of seaweed that she never saw before – he must have found it in the depths of the ocean.
His skin was pale even when compared to the white sand upon which he was lying, but all over his arms and ribs he had reddish marks spreading on a stern pattern; at first, Yua thought they were scratches, but a careful examination revealed that they were natural marks. Not that it would be a big problem for him if they were real injuries, for his muscles and general aspect implied an amount of resistance that would surpass the human limits: it wasn’t hard to imagine that he had enough strength to kill Yua in seconds even if he didn’t use everything he got against her. This detail served as warning for her in her next actions.
If the creature’s skin seemed pale to her, his hair was indeed white; it was short, disposed in shaggy, thick strands. On his head he was wearing some sort of silver ornament that covered his forehead and part of his cheeks, but the sharp points on its upper side created a resemblance with the forehead protector of the human shinobi from distant lands. Was he a warrior among his people?
She wasn’t sure if it was an illusion, but both his skin and hair seemed to reflect a subtle, bluish shade when touched by the light. Perhaps it was the influence of the aquatic aspects of his anatomy: over the outer side of his arms, starting on his elbows and reaching his fists, as well as on his lower back, grew a layer of scales that shone with a soft shade of blue that got darker as they extended in flexible fins. Of an even darker tone of blue was his tail, spreading for at least three meters among the waves: it started right at what would be his waist if he was human, but in this case the transition between the pale skin and the scales was less subtle, as to let no doubts about his non human nature.
For she was born in that city, Yua heard about the people of the sea since she was a child, from the stories her mother told her to the talking all around the city, when fishermen and travelers would complain about accidents and shipwrecks caused by those wild sea-men. However, she never expected to find one of them by herself. She was scared, that was true, but her fascination overcame her fears, and she bent down beside the seaman and stretched her hand to touch him.
She touched his right shoulder at first with her fingertips, ready to move away if he woke and attack her. It was warm – he was alive, then. And that part of the stories that claimed that their skin was as cold as the deep ocean was a lie. He showed no reaction to her touch, so she put her palm over his skin.
This time he started to move.
He clenched his fists and leaned on them using all his strength. In a second, he was able to look ahead, and that was what he did once he opened his eyes. Yua got stunned when he did: his pupils were not but two tiny black dots surrounded by globes as red as human blood, and the narrow shape of his eyes seeming to be painted with black ink, as well the red marks he had upon his cheeks and chin which were of the same pattern as the others on his body, deepened her impression of being in front of a predator.
They soon spotted the girl staring at him and widened, if with anger or fear, she didn’t have the time to find out. It was easy to suppose that he hid fangs behind his mouth while he kept it shut, so when he hissed and showed them, Yua was not surprised, but the sudden movement he made to throw himself toward her made her jump and fall on her back, containing a scream.
However, instead of a growl or any other sound of attack, she heard a moan that seem to be caused by pain. When she sat and looked again, she noticed that the sand underneath his spot was soaked in a fluid of a deep blue tone that was close to black; she then saw him trying to cover a dark stain upon his chest, from which dripped the same fluid. She didn’t need to know much about seamen to understand that it was blood.
Forgetting about what just happened, she leaned toward him.
- Let me help you!
The man stopped at these words and stared at her. The suffering was visible on his face, on which side there was blood falling, probably from a hidden injury. However, his silence was so long that she started to wonder if he could understand the human speech.
She tried again, more cautious.
- Do you understand what I say? – she pointed the injury – You’re hurt. You need help. Let me take care of this for you.
He kept staring at her for a few seconds before relaxing his position as sign of permission for her to approach. She came to bend closer to him and without touching the injury, started to examine it. It was an ugly thing he got there: a deep cut on his right side, apparently made with some sharp, metallic instrument like a big knife or a spear, that spread from his scapula to the center of his chest, almost reaching his left ribs. What was she going to do?
The first thing was to clean that blood as much as she could. She had nothing to do that but an apron she used to put upon her dresses to walk in case she found a shell she wanted to keep; she took it off and soaked it in the water to clean the bruise, and then folded it, using it to contain the bleeding.
- Please, hold it tight – she made the gesture of holding the fabric against the injury and touched his hand to tell him to imitate her.
He did it with his empty hand and, when she started to look around, trying to decide what to do next, he offered her the seaweed he was holding. She raised her eyes to him and he nodded; she immediately understood and took it from his hand.
The seaweed, when pressed and rubbed between the palms, formed a thick, creamy substance that glued to the skin with little effort and didn’t melt with the mere contact with water; it wasn’t so easy to spread, so the girl would need to be careful if she wanted that quantity to be enough for a large cut like that. When the salve was ready, she removed the apron from the cut and started to press the seaweed upon it.
It was indeed a strong medicine: as soon as it touched the bruise, he hissed, probably because it burned the sensitive skin. Yua stopped at it, but got back to her task when he seem to feel better.
She slowed her pace and softened the pressure she was applying, but it didn’t seem to help with the burning sensation because he kept hissing during the whole process.
- I’m sorry – she whispered, trying to calm him down as she worked – It will be over soon, I promise... It’s almost finished… Just a little bit…
As the treatment advanced, the seaman seemed to get used to the unpleasing sensation caused by the medicine: the hisses were less frequent now, and the tension on his muscles diminished. Maybe it was the medicine in action, or the certainty that Yua was not going to harm him – because whatever have happened to him moments before that encounter, he had his reasons to be on guard and afraid.
And after some minutes, everything was finally over. The seaman was visibly relieved; the burn must have stopped at that point. Yua washed her hands on the water, but kept what remained from the seaweed on her lap.
She observed him with more attention, not ignoring the blood on his face.
- Is this the only injury you got? – she questioned him and indicated the water plant – There’s still some seaweed we could use in this case.
At these words, he had a strange reaction. His looked away, as if trying to hide the blood and find a way to escape the conversation. But what could be so embarrassing that he didn’t want to tell her? Was it the fact that he just got help from a human being? Or didn’t he understand her language and didn’t know how to explain it? She tried to question him to find out, but he seemed to become nervous, and she was afraid to push him too far: having a potentially dangerous creature close to you and irritating him was not the best idea one could have.
The girl stretched her hand toward him, but closed it and moved it back to her lap. If he was a human, she could touch his shoulder or his hand to assure him about her good intentions, but in the present case she couldn’t be sure of how he was going to react to her gesture. The best way to proceed was, after all, continuing to speak.
- Listen… I don’t know if can understand what I’m saying, but I just want to help you, right? So, if you have a problem, you can show me, and I will do my best. You don’t need to be afraid.
And for the second time, she held back a scream: for the first time, the seaman spoke.

Is there any character that you originally wrote as a super minor character, but you’ve ended up changing your plan so that they have a larger role?
This is honestly a really funny question, and I really hope you’ll enjoy the answer.
When Gladiator started out, I decided I’d be too bored writing about bland and flat soldiers with zero personality or depth to speak of. Canon did feature a few Fire Nation soldiers with personality, but they weren’t all that fleshed out and virtually had no identity, so in a sense, I decided to rebel by actually giving my soldiers a little more relevance than that.
But it wasn’t meant to be a TON of relevance, you see... it really wasn’t. So when Captain Sokkla (that’s how everyone used to call him xD) suddenly became a hit with readers, I wondered if maybe I should expand his role even more than I had during the early arcs of Gladiator. He had no name for a long time in the story because he had no name in my head either, then it turns out the name I picked for him had a really cool meaning (as in, the guardian lion statues frequently seen in Chinese culture) and I had no idea xD it’s ironic how many amazing things came into place for Rui Shi to slowly but surely become the most popular of my OCs, as well as one of the actual main characters in the story. He’s subtle in many ways, and he’s never seeking to hog up attention... but the man’s definitely outgrown his initial role and become a most incredible character I’ve loved working with over the years.
Of course, if Rui Shi’s role wasn’t meant to be as big as it’s become, it’s probably pretty obvious that Song was also intended to have a supporting role, even if she had some moments of prominence in the early stages of the story here and there. A lot of the idea of giving Song a new life in Gladiator came from my lingering grumpiness at canon for not giving the poor girl a better resolution, so I wanted her to be more important, and treated better, in my story. Then, everyone started shipping her with Rui Shi and why lie? I enjoyed the idea of those two interacting right off the bat. Figuring out how to get their romance started was tricky, but damn, it’s been worth it. And I’m just going to come out and say it: Song is literally a breakout character. For the majority of Part 1 she was mostly a supporting character, with the occasional moments of relevance indeed, then she grew more important through Part 2, and that importance has only continued to escalate and rise higher as we come closer to the end of Part 2. From starting off as a maid and healer for Sokka, she’s honestly become one of Sokka and Azula’s best friends, and I’m not even going to talk about how absolutely CRUCIAL she’s going to be in Part 3. Much like her soulmate Rui Shi, this girl’s gone the distance and I could not be prouder of her for it xD
Next! I think I could lump in all of Azula’s guards along with Rui Shi, to a fault (despite he’s obviously the most important of them). Most of the guards didn’t even have names for a fairly long time, but I slowly grew to use them more, especially in the Festivals, and I just needed them to be individualized and relevant as they are. Of course, not all the ten guards are easily individualized yet... but they’ve all become near and dear to my heart over the years, that much I can confirm, and they’re definitely going to become more than nameless, faceless soldiers in the future, for they have some very important roles to play in the story by the end of Part 2 and eventually in Part 3.
Shoji also, of course, gained more relevance as the story progressed, to the point where I finally set him free from the confines of his desk for the first time in chapter 201 xD He’s a really fun character to write because of how innocent, sweet and good-natured he is. Giving him a bit more content to work with, including as good as becoming Haru’s foster brother (yes, Ran’s basically adopted Shoji by now x’D), made me very happy because he deserves the relevance, for sure.
The last one I’ll bring up... is Rei. Oh, my sweet, pure, wonderful Rei. She definitely could compete with Shoji in the contest of the sweetest characters in this wild story xD But of course, Rei’s role so far has been minimal and nobody really understands why I love her so much. To focus on your question, though, I pondered the idea of making her Zhao’s illegitimate daughter since the moment I came up with the character, back in chapter 138, but over the next months (heck, years, probably) I wondered if I should scrap that whole idea and just make her a regular maid with no further relevance than that. But when the time came to really plot Part 3 properly, to ponder if there was a role this girl could play by then... I was completely blown to bits by the possibilities, and I literally spent DAYS just plotting, not writing a single word, so I could unravel her future role in the story, which is just one of the many things I can’t wait to write already. Rei will breathe a lot of life into Part 3 as long as I do my job properly, and I guarantee she’ll be so much more important than I EVER anticipated she could be, back when I first came up with the character.
At any rate, there’s quite a fair share of characters who went the distance and completely shattered not just my expectations but who broke out of the plots I used to imagine for them. They’ve all outgrown their initial roles to varying degrees (Shoji, despite he’s more important now, won’t be as much of a main character as someone like Rui Shi, for instance, despite his role has indeed expanded plenty). You see... sometimes you have to enforce plot by any means necessary, restraining whatever wild ideas you get if they’ll derail your overall plans. But sometimes you have to cut yourself loose and let ideas run away with you... because who knows? Could be letting some characters gain life of their own is exactly the element you needed so your story could truly move forward in the right direction.
As an added note, Kino, the poor forgotten boy whom I did NOT forget xD was actually meant to have a prominent role from the moment I came up with him (as a fun factor in the South Pole, as well as a useful source of information for the Tribe before Zuko and Suki arrived), but... hehe, much like Rei and Song, this guy’s going to be much more important than I planned initially, even if I did plan for him to play a big-ish role from the start. I didn’t list him with everyone else because he was intended to be important all along, but he still became a much more relevant character than I expected once I plotted Part 3 better and certain possibilities came to life through his character. So he’s a case of “important who became even more important” rather than “supporting or background character who became essential to the story”, unlike everyone else I’ve listed here. There’s definitely a few others who suit that first category, and there’s probably more of the second one too, despite I can’t think of them right now... but thanks for the ask anyway, and I hope your curiosity has been sated, if just a bit :D

Anything For You
Pairing: Kristanna
Word Count: 3,688/AO3
Summary: Anna agrees to go camping despite her uncertainties, but Kristoff has a few tricks up his sleeve to make their experience more comfortable.
Author’s Note: Hi all! Here I am, once again writing about a topic that I know nothing about. I’m sure I got something wrong haha. I’m also the most indecisive person on the face of the earth, so I couldn’t decide how to end this. I don't even know if any of this makes sense tbh XD I hope you enjoy it regardless!
“I don’t want you to leave,” Kristoff sighed.
“I wish I could stay, but we both have work in the morning and I have to drive home.” Anna wrapped her arms around him. “I’ll see you on Friday.”
“I actually wanted to talk to you about that,” he said sheepishly, before pulling away and rubbing the back of his neck with his hand. “You didn’t actually plan to do anything except hang out this weekend, right?”
“No,” she shook her head. “Did you have something in mind?”
“Well, I was hoping to go camping. I haven’t been in a long time - since before we got together - and I’d love for you to come with me,” he explained, before hastily adding, “But only if you want to, of course.”
“I’ve never been camping before,” she responded, feeling a bit uneasy about the idea. Any vacations that her family had taken had always been to some kind of fancy resort; the thought of camping had never crossed her mind as a thing people really did until she was a teenager.
“I know, and I know it’s probably not something you’re thrilled about, but it’s only for two nights. I really want to go hiking and fishing before it gets too cold out.”
“Okay,” she nodded. “If that’s what you want to do.”
“Really?” he asked, his face lighting up.
“Of course! Don’t be silly.”
“This is going to be so great,” he smiled. “I wasn’t sure what you were going to say, but I’m really glad that you’re willing to come along.”
“I’d do anything for you, Kristoff,” she promised, giving him another hug for good measure. “I’ll let you know when I get home, okay?”
He nodded. “Okay, drive safely.”
“I will.”
She spent the entire twenty minute drive agonizing over what the weekend would be like; she knew nothing about camping. In her head, all she could picture were tents and sleeping bags in the middle of the cold, dark woods. She was so focused on her thoughts that she had no recollection of the actual drive; with a sigh, she made her way inside, taking notice of the fact that the lights were still on, which could only mean that her sister was awake. She kicked her shoes off in the entryway and texted Kristoff before venturing in.
“Hey,” she called out as she approached the living room.
“Hi,” Elsa responded, not taking her eyes away from the book she was reading. “How are you?”
“Pretty good,” Anna responded, sitting on the opposite end of the couch. “I’m going camping this weekend.”
Elsa looked up at her younger sister and blinked a few times in disbelief. “You’re going camping?”
“I know,” Anna cringed. “But it’s something that Kristoff really likes to do, and it’s not like I’ve ever done it before, so I don’t really know that I’m going to hate it.”
“I don’t know, sleeping on the floor in the middle of the woods sounds very unappealing to me.”
“Yeah, but we’ll be in a tent.”
“What about bugs? Or bears? Or the countless other wild animals that lurk in the woods?”
Anna shrugged, a bit of anxiety rising in her. “I’m sure we’ll be fine.”
“And what will you eat? Where will you go to the bathroom?”
“I don’t know, Elsa,” she answered exasperatedly. “Look, I’m going to go and if it’s really awful then I’ll just request that next time we get a camper or something. But I don’t want to disappoint Kristoff and say ‘no’ off the bat because he does everything that I want to do.”
Elsa nodded thoughtfully. “That’s really nice of you. I don’t know if I would be willing to do the same.”
“I have a feeling that you’ll feel differently if you ever love someone,” she muttered under her breath, sliding off of the couch. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go figure out what on earth I’m supposed to pack.”
She headed upstairs to her room, and sat down on her bed before grabbing her laptop and logging on. After a few minutes of research, it became clear that she didn’t have most of the things that were required to go camping in the fall, and amidst her anxiety returning, she decided that a quick call to her lifeline wouldn’t hurt.
Kristoff answered on the first ring. “Hey, Anna.”
“Hi, honey. Do you have a minute?”
“Sure, what’s up?”
“So, I’m trying to figure out what I have to bring with me this weekend, and I’m having a bit of a hard time because I don’t really have any of the things this website says I should have.”
“Like what?”
She squinted at the screen whilst reading off some of the items to him. “Waterproof boots, a rain jacket, a sleeping bag...sleeping pads? I don’t even know what that is.”
“It’s like a cushion that you put down so you aren’t sleeping on directly on the hard ground,” he explained. “It’s also an extra layer of insulation.”
“Gotcha,” she remarked. “Will we have time to stop somewhere so I can get these things?”
“Don’t worry about it, I’ve got it covered.”
“I have total faith in you, I do - but unless you have a pair of boots in my size laying around somewhere, we will have to stop and get them.”
“It’ll all be taken care of,” he assured her.
“You know what? I’ll go to the mall and buy the stuff I need before we leave on Friday.”
“I don’t have any issues with stopping,” he promised. “You don’t have to rush out and go buy a bunch of stuff.”
“Alright,” she said, cautiously. “Can you text me a list of clothes I should pack? And what type of bag I should pack them in.”
“Absolutely, but you really won’t need as much as you think you do.”
“That’s easy for you to say; you’re a human furnace. It’s probably going to be very cold at night and everything I’ve read says to wear lots of layers.”
“Just...trust me,” he breathed, in a rather content tone.
It was both comforting and alarming to her. “I trust you.”
“Please try not to worry about it, it’s going to be great.”
She smiled to herself. “I’ll try.”
“Good, now try to get some sleep, okay?”
“Okay,” she agreed. “Goodnight. Love you.”
“Love you, too.”
“And don’t forget to send me that list!” she called at the last second, and she heard him laugh before the line went dead.
Her phone buzzed a minute later; she glanced down at the text that read, Warm clothes, toiletries, backpack. Don’t overthink it. Love you.
She couldn’t help but roll her eyes; it was the opposite of helpful. Regardless, she sent back a message thanking him, setting her mind to doing more research and getting the necessities at the mall.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A trip to the mall after work on Friday was not enough to quell Anna’s anxiety about the camping trip; she still felt wholly unprepared, even as she was sitting on the floor of her bedroom, folding her clothes and allowing her mind to race. A soft knock on the door brought her back to reality. She looked over, and Kristoff was leaning against her doorframe.
“Can I come in?” he asked.
“Hey, I didn’t know you were here already!”
“I texted you, but it’s not a big deal. Elsa let me in.”
“Sorry, my phone is charging over there,” she said, pointing to her desk.
He sat down on the edge of her bed and watched as she hurried to throw her clothes into her backpack. “Is that my hoodie?”
“Maybe.” She shoved the sweatshirt into the bag and changed the subject. “I went to the mall today.”
He cocked his head. “I promised that we would stop to get the stuff that you needed.”
“I know. We still have to stop at the camping supplies store for my boots. The sporting goods store at the mall was all sold out and I need them.”
“We’ll get them. What’d you get at the mall?”
“I bought wool socks. And a puffer vest and a fleece jacket. I already had a hat and a scarf and mittens, of course.”
“That sounds good, you won’t feel cold wearing all of that.”
“I had to go on a wild goose chase for leggings, though, because all of the Victoria’s Secret leggings I have are made of cotton and that’s not a good material to wear while camping, apparently.”
“You did a lot of research about camping, huh?”
“I had to, my boyfriend was being intentionally vague,” she remarked, narrowing her eyes at him.
“I wasn’t being intentionally vague,” he corrected. “You’re not an avid hiker and camper, you don’t really need special camping-only clothes.”
She zipped up her bag. “But you like camping, so this is probably not a one time thing - unless you plan on going without me after this.”
“You’re always invited,” he assured her. “Are you ready to go?”
“Yeah,” she nodded. “I feel a little unprepared, though. Are you sure that I have everything I’ll need?”
“Yes, I’m sure,” he chuckled. “It’s going to be fine.”
Anna stood up and unplugged her phone and it’s charger, stuffing them both into the side pocket of her backpack. She slid one of the straps over her shoulder. “Ready.”
He followed her down the stairs and to the front door, where Elsa was waiting.
“Be safe,” she said, pulling Anna in for a hug.
“We will,” Anna assured her. “See you on Sunday.”
“Have fun!” Elsa called from the doorway as they walked out.
They climbed into the car, which was parked at the end of the driveway, and Anna set her backpack on the floorboard near her feet. Kristoff started the engine, then leaned over the center console to reach something in the backseat. Upon turning back around, set a box on her lap. “Here, these are for you.”
It was a shoe box. She flipped open the lid and inside were grey hiking boots with purple accents and laces. Her breath caught in her throat. “You bought me boots?”
“Yeah, you said you needed them.”
“You remembered my shoe size?”
“...Yeah?” He raised an eyebrow. “Was I not supposed to know?”
“No,” she shook her head. “I only dragged you shoe shopping, like, once so I didn’t think that you knew what size I wore.”
“You didn’t drag me anywhere,” he corrected. “It’s just something that I paid attention to. I know for a fact that you know my shoe size even though I’ve never bought shoes in front of you.”
“I do,” she nodded, looking down at the box again. “Thank you for thinking of me.”
“Anything for my girl,” he grinned, shifting gears from park to drive.
The drive up to the campsite went by fast; the roads were empty and they were able to enjoy each other’s company and talk as they made their way through the mountains, as well as stop at a diner for a quick meal. After an hour on the road, Kristoff pulled into a parking lot surrounded by lush green pine trees.
“This is the place?” she asked, a wave of anxiety rushing over her. The sky was overcast and it was a little foggy, and on top of that she couldn’t see any visible trails or signage from where she was sitting. She figured that there had to be one around here somewhere.
He nodded, parking on the far end. “This is it.”
He climbed out of the car and went around the back to open the trunk. In the meantime, she opened her own door and twisted so her legs could hang out and she could put her boots on. She toed off her sneakers, and slid her foot into the first boot, realizing for the first time how heavy they were.
Kristoff appeared in front of her. “You need some help?”
“No, I’ve got it,” she answered, tugging the laces through the hook eyelets. When they felt tight enough, she tied the ends onto a knot and started with the other boot. When she finished, he held out his hand and she took it before hopping out of the car.
“Put your sneakers in your backpack,” he recommended. “You’ll be dying to take those off when we get to the site.”
“Okay,” she agreed. She did as he said, squeezing the shoes into the bag and then slid her arms into each of the straps. She closed the door and walked back to the trunk, growing concerned when she realized he hadn’t brought that much stuff along with him. “Where’s all your stuff?”
“It’s right here,” he said, patting the duffle bag.
“There’s no way that that’s everything we need for two nights.”
“Everything’s in here,” he assured her.
“You’re joking, right? Where’s the tent? The sleeping bags? Food and water? They can’t all possibly fit in that tiny bag.”
He placed a hand on each of her shoulders. “Anna, relax, you’re working yourself up over nothing. I’ve got it all covered, okay?”
“Okay,” she nodded, exhaling shakily. She wasn’t quite sure if she believed him, but he was the camping expert.
He removed his hands in order to close the trunk, and then took her by the hand. “Come on, we’re going this way.”
He led her toward a densely packed area of trees, no path in sight. She gulped. “We aren’t going to be following a trail? We’re just going to...walk in the woods?”
“Yup,” he answered.
“That doesn’t seem very safe,” she remarked.
“I know these woods, we’ll be fine.”
Although he was trying to be reassuring, it was not helpful in the slightest. Her mind was wandering - what would they do if they encountered a wild animal? Or if they got lost - how would help find them? Would they starve to death or freeze to death? Meanwhile, Kristoff was as cool as a cucumber, forging ahead and seemingly doing so without a care in the world.
They walked for a long time, much longer than she had imagined they would. The woods were damp and cold, with lots of ups and downs in the terrain. A slight separation formed between them, and she trailed behind him, struggling to keep up. They kept the talking to a minimum, until she recognized the area that they were in.
“Hey, haven’t we passed these trees before?”
“No.”
She wiped the sweat off her brow with the back of her hand. “Are you sure? Because I swear that I’ve seen this fallen tree.”
“It’s your mind playing tricks on you,” he assured her. “Just keep walking, don’t pay too much attention to the trees because they all look alike.”
She threw her head back in a moment of frustration and groaned, but did as he said and kept walking. She kept reminding herself that he knew a lot more than she did, but it was incredibly difficult to not worry about their safety. Her feet were starting to ache from wearing the unbroken-in boots, and carrying the weight of her backpack was getting harder and harder on her back and shoulders with each step. When it had started to become noticeably darker, and they were still walking, she spoke up again.
“Kristoff?” she called, a little breathless from the thin mountain air.
He turned around. “Yeah?”
“Shouldn’t we stop somewhere soon? I know that you’re the camping expert, but it’s getting dark out and we still need to set everything up.”
He stopped for a moment, allowing her enough time to catch up to him before they continued. “The site is just a little bit further ahead, we’ll make it.”
“I trust you, but you’re making me a little nervous.”
“You have nothing to be nervous about,” he assured her, in a sincere tone.
She stopped dead in her tracks regardless. “No offense, but that’s something a serial killer would say.”
He raised his eyebrows. “Did you just accuse me of bringing you out here so I could murder you?”
He reached out to take her hand and she took a step back, crossing her arms over her chest. “It’s just a little too convenient. I may be a lot smaller than you, but I could kick your ass if I have to.”
“That won’t be necessary,” he chuckled, motioning for her to continue following him.
She did, though she tried to keep a safe distance in case she had to run. “You’re just acting so...strange.”
“You’ll see why as soon as we get past this cluster of trees.”
Suddenly, the land in front of them cleared into a wide open space. He pointed to a rather large campground that was not populated by tents, but rather by a few wood cabins. “There. That’s where we’re staying.”
Her heart was racing, now. “But those are cabins.”
“I know.”
“Wait, are we not sleeping in a tent?”
“We’re not,” he said, wrapping his arm around her shoulder. “Surprise.”
She shook her head in disbelief. “I’m so confused.”
“Look, I know that you’ve never been camping before, and I really wanted you to come along, but I knew that you were a little uncomfortable with the idea of sleeping outside.”
“You did this for me?”
“Of course,” he said in a low voice, before pressing a kiss to her temple. “You agreed to come because you knew it would make me happy. The least I could do was make sure that you would be comfortable.”
“But I just…accused you of being a serial killer. And I threatened to beat you up.”
“Because I spent an hour and a half leading you in circles around the woods and deflecting your questions to throw you off.”
She blinked a few times, unable to slow her pounding heart or her racing mind. “I don’t know what to say.”
“How about we go check it out?”
“Okay,” she nodded.
The walk across the field was much easier than their trudge through the woods.
“My truck is actually parked right over there.” He pointed to the right, and though it was hard to see, there was a parking lot just past the furthest cabin on that side. He then pointed to the furthest cabin on the left. “We’re staying in that last one on the left.”
“How did I not see any of these?” she asked, dumbfounded.
“Because I parked on the far end and took you through the woods, behind the cabins. If I had wanted you to see them, you would’ve.”
“This isn’t technically camping, you know,” she pointed out.
“It’s glamping,” he smirked. “Besides, we can’t have you freezing to death out there.”
She frowned. “I just feel bad that you got jipped out of a real camping trip.”
“I didn’t get jipped out of anything,” he promised. “We can go hiking and fishing, we can build a campfire right outside of the cabin and look up at the stars, and best of all, you’re here with me - that’s the most important thing.”
In no time, they were walking up the stairs to the small deck of the cabin, where two chairs and a small table sat. He pulled a key out of his pocket and unlocked the door before leading her inside. It was much nicer than she anything she could’ve expected; a large, comfortable-looking bed in the far corner, and a couch near the front door. It was cozy and quaint, and the absolute opposite of sleeping in a tent in the middle of the woods.
“It’s not fancy, but there’s a bed, and a bathroom, and a kitchenette,” he said, pointing out each of those areas as he said its name. “I already stocked up the fridge, and look! We have electricity and heat, but there’s also a fireplace and we can keep a fire going.”
She was at a loss for words, and frankly, a little disoriented. The boots, the cabin, it was all so unexpected and so...thoughtful. So romantic.
He glanced down at her face and squeezed her shoulder. “What’s on your mind?”
“I’m just a little shocked, that’s all,” she answered, her voice soft and shaky.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah,” she nodded. “I totally wasn’t expecting this and I’m a little overwhelmed, but in a good way.”
“Do you need to sit down?”
“No, no,” she said, frantically waving her hands around as she spoke. “It’s just that I agreed to come camping to make you happy, and even if I absolutely hated it, I’d still do it again because I know you love it and I love you so I want you to be happy all the time, of course, but then you turn around and do this amazing thing to make me happy, and even though I’ve known for a long time that you’re the person I want to be with for the rest of my life -”
“You want to spend the rest of your life with me?”
“More than anything,” she breathed. “I’ve never been so certain about something.”
“I feel the same way,” he cooed, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “I want a lifetime with you.”
“I didn’t even know that loving someone this much was possible,” she mumbled, reaching up to his face and gently brushing her thumb against his lips before settling it on his cheek. He leaned into her touch, pressing a kiss to her palm. “I really can’t believe that you did this.”
“You make me so unbelievably happy,” he confessed, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her closer to him; she closed her eyes, taking in his smell. He smelled vaguely of pine and body wash and sweat, and she was sure that she smelled the same. His leaned down, his breath was warm on her face when he whispered, “I’d do anything for you.”
She softly pressed her lips to his before leaning back to meet his gaze. “How about we make good on that promise, then?”

Who was Pandora’s Vault originally for
(Because I have been thinking about this for far too long)
(Sorry if some of these are a little old, I forgot I made this like a month ago so I cleaned it up and here we are)
This list will go from most likely to least likely character.
Likely
- Technoblade (arguably the most likely option simply because when you mention “powerful enough to be a problem” the first thing you think of is Techno. He’s notoriously strong and unafraid to oppose Dream. Also seeing as the prison ‘changed purpose’ it implies Dream no longer saw the original intended prisoner as a threat, or at least as much of a threat, as Tommy)
- BBH (Dream’s old friend, implied more powerful then a regular human. Plus by this point the egg plot on the Dream SMP had already started. There may have been ‘good intentions’ originally. As dumb as it sounds, I’d also count putting the egg itself in jail here)
- Wilbur Soot (revived, of course. It’s been established that a revived Wilbur would be more dangerous then ever, and if Dream had any inking of this beforehand the prison would be the best way to fully utilize his power. Those not in the know would be blackmailed to keep him safe, and Wilbur could also provide some added chaos to the SMP as a whole, which may end up working in Dream’s favor. And now that he is revived by Dream, we know he’s a threat in some capacity, though seemingly not to Dream himself. Don’t forget, anyone who tries to break out Dream may be hunted down and placed in the prison themselves (or, as in the contract for visiting, “killed until they’re completely dead”))
- Ranboo (Ranboo is tied to Dream in some significant way, seeing as he was used by Dream in some of his plans in some capacity. While a help, I’m sure it could also have been turned into a threat of the wrong things were to get out. Also for meta gaming purposes that get him higher on this list, Dream and Ranboo have collaborated with lore in the past and clearly trust each other to carry the torch. Furthermore, with current Ranboo Enderwalk lore, we’ve learned that rather then just being a servant for Dream, there’s a chance the Enderwalk state was manipulated by Dream who perhaps claimed he was doing it for the greater good of the server. But more introspection on the Enderwalk state is a post for another day)
- Karl Jacob (time travel implies two things. Power and unpredictable nature. Seeing as Karl keeps most changes to himself though and seems to be self destructing either the prison is no longer needed for him or he was never considered a real threat in the first place)
- Philza Minecraft (Phil is notably dangerous, though less then Technoblade. He’s got big hostage potential due to his one life predicament and big use potential due to his knowledge in Minecraft)
- Foolish__Gamers (a literal god, and has recently shown godly powers. This would either involve pre planning on someone’s part though, which the Dream SMP isn’t particularly known for, or making this the original prisoner in a retcon “we’ll figure it out later” manner. It would be interesting though, as the prison may have been repurposed after Dream realized Foolish was at this point in time a big pacifist)
- Quackity (he’s dangerous with his tongue, but I don’t think his physical strength is enough for there to be a whole prison containing him. Not to say he doesn’t play to his other strengths- I bet he’d have an easier time convincing someone to break him out then most. And if anything else, Dream’s worries about him as a threat are now justified due to the whole ‘torture every day’ thing)
- Shlatt (a similar situation as Wilbur, but at the bottom because he’s useless as a hostage and currently still dead)
- Dream Himself (okay, so his reluctance to be in the prison makes it seem like he wouldn’t want it to be for him, but if he’s playing like the super long con somehow and the Prison is either to keep threats like the egg out or to make it seem like he’s powerless...)
Maybe?
- Dream XD (wild, and like Foolish, Dream XD wasn’t a lore concept until later in the prison’s development, back when Techno and Phil were building their Anarchy Table, but it would be an interesting twist. Especially because we don’t know if the two have any connection beyond their names)
- Jack Manifold (yeah he died and came back, but that doesn’t change the fact that he died in the first place. Plus he just hasn’t really gotten to Dream with any of his antagonistic attempts)
- Captain Puffy (mysterious past pog. But in all seriousness, she’s seen as being likable and just, doing her best to do the right thing even when making the decision to become a Villain later on with the Eggpire arc. And while she started as a ‘janitor’, she did join the server before the prison began its construction)
- Niki (she’s dangerous now but not to Dream whose locked away and gone from her ire. Also again wasn’t a threat before the prison was planned, though who knows how much Dream knew of everyone’s mental states back when he was planning)
- Fundy (also doubtful, but coder man do be coding, especially with mods now allowed on the SMP. And now with the revelation of his prophetic dreams, there’s a chance this may be the power Dream feared, especially if said powers were in the works beforehand)
- Hbomb (idk he’s got good strategy as seen with Vault Hunters and MCC and stuff but he doesn’t really use it on the Dream SMP as he prefers parkour challenges or just chillin. Perhaps would only be locked up because the Maidbomb is too powerful)
- Eret (yeah they are a monarch who doesn’t like Dream but they really do have no control and no one on their side so unless the Herobrine thing comes into play this one doesn’t make much sense either)
- Ponk (like Eret he doesn’t have much influence over others. More importantly though, all the trouble he’s made so far has been just annoying at worst. His biggest strength is probably how stubborn he is, and how long he’s been around. To quote Eret, “He’s like the John Wick of the Dream SMP.”)
- Antfrost (only if the manhunt series is cannon in the Dream SMPand Dream has flashbacks to when cat boy killed him with a potion like a chump. Though I will say there’s a non zero chance Manhunt is cannon from the comments all the hunters have made during lore bits)
- Hannah Rose and Purpled (TBH both of them are grouped here since they’re most notably physically strong due to their Bedwars experience. But Purpled is rarely ever on, and Hannah joined after prison construction had already started)
- Punz (the only reason the prison would be for him when he knew explicitly about it and could have won is Dream was threatened by his speedrun skills)
- Sapnap (objection your honor that’s too sad. For real, this is probably higher on the Mabye list due to being a big threat, as seen by the ‘I’ll hunt you down if you escape’ exchange he had while visiting Dream. Sapnap makes his decisions based of what he feels is fair, rather then loyalty (a majority of the time anyways) and furthermore he’s one of the people that knows the most about Dream. However, it’s this low because if it’s Sapnap I’d simply cry maybe)
- Mexican Dream (Dream did dislike the guy. However, he lost all his canon lives in the span of one afternoon so how much of a threat was he really?)
For sure not
- Tommy (confirmed by Dream it wasn’t originally for him during the final disk confrontation)
- Tubbo (also confirmed by Dream it wasn’t originally for him during the same confrontation)
- Skeppy (why would he have a prison in Dream’s funky dungeon if he had a better prison elsewhere?)
- Conner, Slime, Lazar, Vikk (simply not on enough for an intense prison lore stream)
- George (too pretty)
- Callahan (too cool. Also part-time is the server)
- Awesamdude (he was recruited to build the prison and be its warden when the time came. Literally the worst person to put in the prison)
- Michaelmcchill (bro he was added today)

note: I reblogged the masterlist post about this yesterday, but I’m doing a mini-collab with @prettywordsyouleft and @this-song-thats-only-for-you! There was a ‘who is your monsta x guardian angel based on your sign’ post going around on twitter, so the members we’re writing for are based off our results from that! Admittedly, there’s a running joke amongst us that I always get Wonho in those, but I am not going to complain XD We’ll each be doing one post each and I’m the first one up! Please enjoy~! ^^

Tumblr media
"Your daughter… she's got quite the… imagination. The entire time she was here, she couldn't stop talking about someone named Hoseok. Apparently, he's a good friend of hers," your neighbor relayed to your mother when she came to pick you up, the lightest giggle escaping the woman's lips.
An apologetic look was plastered all over your mother's face, but you were too young to understand her concerns at the time. "I'm so sorry. Hoseok is… he's her imaginary friend. She talks about him a lot at home as well. I don't feel right about correcting her just yet. She's still so young…"
Your neighbor shook her head. "No, don't discourage her. It's good for her to have an imagination! It means that your daughter is creative. And honestly, it seemed like my Hyunwoo had a wonderful time playing with her and Hoseok. Let me know if you need me to watch her again, okay? She's always welcome here," she reassured your mother, and after another slew of 'thank you's, your mother took you home.
As most children aged, they let go of their imaginary friends. It was a natural part of growing up. But for you, it wasn't so simple. Your parents had hoped that by the time that you turned seven that you would stop mentioning Hoseok altogether. They hoped that your friends at school would drive away the imaginary one in your mind, yet his name still left your lips. At first, you didn't quite understand why it was such a big deal to them. Hoseok felt very real to you, so the fact that they kept telling you he didn't really exist was… strange. You were young, so you didn't quite know how to voice to them that he felt very much alive, very much like a real person in your life. It wasn't until you were a little older when you understood why you could see him, feel him, but your parents couldn't.
Hoseok was your guardian angel.
To ease your parents' concerns, you never spoke his name out loud again, but Hoseok never disappeared. He was always by your side, helping you through each hardship that you faced. Every time you had a hard decision to make, Hoseok was there to help you navigate them. Whenever your emotions ran wild, he was there to calm you down, to talk you through your feelings. Every heartbreak, even though he tried to protect you from them as best he could, he was also there to pick up the broken pieces, mending that fragile heart back together. Whether others knew of his existence or not, Hoseok was indeed your closest friend. You almost could have gone as far as to say that there was nothing you would change about him.
Almost.
Hoseok was… overprotective.
You figured that part of this was natural for a guardian angel. After all, he was obviously present in your life to assist you through tough situations that were thrown at you. This you understood, but with Hoseok, sometimes the smallest things sent him into overdrive. When you were little, he had a fit every time you got on a bicycle or tried to climb a tree. In your teens, it was your choice in friends. And now… well, it ranged from guys you dated to something as simple as the things you ate.
"Excuse me, what do you think you're doing?? You shouldn't be eating that!" Hoseok exclaimed once when you stood before him with a rather delicious looking slice of pie.
"Hoseok, what are you talking about? It's a banana cream pie. You know that I'm mildly allergic to cherries and not bananas," you stated, your fork dipping into that small slice of heaven. You were about to take your first bite when quick footsteps approached, and the male took it right out of your hands.
"Did you also happen to forget that you were mildly allergic to something else? Almonds. There are almonds on top of that pie," he pointed out. The light-colored nuts garnished the top of the pie, sprinkled decoratively on the whipped cream.
A pout unconsciously formed on your lips as your brain tried to find a way to reason with him. "Okay, but it's only mildly. Hoseok, you know it's just a small tickle in my throat. I'll be just fine, so give me back the pie," you said, dismissing his concerns.
Unsurprisingly, your angel was not having any of this. "You say that it's just a mild reaction, but what if this is the one time it becomes more than that? You know that your allergies have gotten worse as you've gotten older. When you were younger, you weren't even allergic!" he countered, holding the delicious dessert just out of your reach.
"The doctor advised me to take allergy medications if I feel any level of discomfort after eating something, and it should go away. I'm an adult, Hoseok. I can take care of a food allergy on my own."
"It's a no go," he replied firmly, standing his ground and hearing you sigh in defeat. He knew that you didn't have the energy to argue with him that day, and so, he won. Oh, and he ate the pie too.
Arguments like this were common with Hoseok. The two of you had been together since you were kids. It was natural to argue like this with someone you were close to. Even so, you had lost count of the number of arguments in which Hoseok usually used your own personal safety and wellbeing as the reason why you shouldn't do something. Yet, you knew why Hoseok was like this. When you were much younger… you almost met a terrible fate.
You were on vacation overseas with your parents. It was a lovely resort city, and on that particular day, your small family had ended their day at the beach. Your parents were walking along the shore, taking their time. In your overexcitement to explore your new environment, you ran ahead of them towards a small pier. You weren't sure how it happened, whether it was a weak and rotted piece of wood, or due to your own clumsiness, but somehow you fell right through and into the water below. You weren't a strong swimmer, you were barely able to doggy paddle at that age. Hoseok watched you frantically try to stay afloat, and his heart couldn't take it. Against every single one of his teachings, he leapt in to save you. He wasn't supposed to, there were consequences to his actions, of course, but Hoseok took each punishment without a single complaint because you were safe. And ever since, he never left your side… even if it was a bit overbearing at times.
But, if you were, to be honest, you didn't mind it most of the time. Hoseok's friendship and his comforting presence were enough to let you overlook this quirk of his. You never went longer than a couple hours without talking to each other. You never thought that anything could put the two of you on such different sides, shouting at each other like you were now. However, here you both were, red-faced and screaming. And it was all because of the overseas trip that your friends had planned.
At first, Hoseok was okay with the trip. It had been a while since you had done something with your friends. And if anything, it was going to be a good chance for all of you to catch up. You had always wanted to travel overseas together, and this was the one time when all of your lives aligned just perfectly. You had told Hoseok that your friend Jenna was the one planning the trip and that she wanted to keep it a surprise. Yet, the moment you told him the details, your guardian angel grew upset.
"You can't go to an island!" he exclaimed, the moment that you relayed to him that Jenna had found a fantastic package for an island getaway. "I mean, I'll be there with you to keep an eye on you, but don't you think going to a place surrounded by water is tempting fate?"
"Hoseok, can you calm down? Look, I tried to convince them to go somewhere else. I suggested big cities or even a pension somewhere, but they are all very adamant on this beach trip. They want to show off all of the hard work that they put into their bodies this winter. I tried really hard, but they weren't swayed. Look, I promise to be careful, to stay as far from the water as they'll allow, and like you said, you'll be with me. Please don't make such a big deal out of this," you tried to reason, but Hoseok's brow only furrowed deeper.
"Can you blame me from making a big deal out of it? This was how I almost lost you as a kid. If anything like that happens again, I can't do anything for you. I'm not allowed to," he shot back, watching as your own brow furrowed in reply. He wasn't backing down, but he could tell that you weren't either.
"All I can promise is that I'll stay away from the water, but the trip has already been decided. Jenna already booked the tickets."
"Well, in that case, you aren't going."
Hoseok's sudden decision caught you off guard. "Excuse you?"
"I said you aren't going."
You let out a quick breath, suddenly irritated by Hoseok's behavior. "You aren't my father, Hoseok. You can't just tell me what to do. I can make my own choice, and you can choose whether or not to come along."
Hoseok scoffed in response, something you didn't often hear from him. "You're right. I'm not your father, but I am your guardian angel. Your safety is my priority, and if you aren't going to listen, I'm going to forbid you from going."
You could feel the anger rising within you. Hoseok had this habit of treating you like a child when he was trying to make a point about your safety, and you hated it. You knew he used this and your health as points in his argument because they were often hard for you to dispute. But this time, you had reached your breaking point. "You can't forbid me from doing anything."
"I can. And I just did. Don't do it."
"No, no, you can't! You can make suggestions for what I should and shouldn't do. You can advocate for one thing over another. However, you have no control over my actual decisions, Hoseok!" you retorted, practically screaming at your angel. At this point, you could see his demeanor change, but you were riled up, and you couldn't stop yourself.
"Look, I love you, I love you a lot. You're the one person in this world that I am the closest to. We've been through everything together, but you don't get to use my safety and my health against me every time you want to tell me what to do. I let you dictate a lot of things in my life. I let you choose the meals we eat, the paths that we take home from work. That's all fine. But this, this decision, you don't get to make. You can take your overbearing self elsewhere!"
The room grew silent, the air thick with each word that left your lips. It felt like it was suffocating you, and you could slowly feel the regret creeping in. You didn't mean to lash out at Hoseok like this, but you felt like it needed to be said. Even though you felt like you took it too far, nothing could have prepared you for Hoseok's reply.
"I am your guardian angel. I understand that my actions can be read as too overprotective, but I do all of this because I care about you. Yet, you don't seem to understand that, do you," His words were low, and you felt a chill run down your spine as he spoke. This didn't sound like your Hoseok.
"I care about you so much, and I always have. That didn't change even after I was punished for saving you. But you don't care about that now that you're alive, do you? But what if… what if that day…"
Your eyes widened. You knew what your angel was implying, and you felt yourself grow cold. "Ho-hoseok, what are you saying??" you stuttered.
"I think I regret saving you. I'll save you the hassle of having to argue with me. Have fun on your trip." His words rolled off his lips with minimal effort, and within seconds, he was gone.
Just like that, you were alone, your words caught in your throat. You had never expected such behavior from Hoseok, nor did you expect his words to affect you as they did. They cut far deeper than any insult you had received. Suddenly, you felt numb, your heavy body trudging its way to your bed, no longer caring about this trip with your friends.
You didn't sleep well that evening, and part of you had hoped that Hoseok would return in the morning so that the two of you could talk about what happened. You wished to find him beside you, or maybe even out in the living room, watching the neighborhood cat that walked by every morning. But, much to your dismay, he wasn't there. There wasn't a single sign of him. You couldn't even feel his presence anymore. Your heart dropped when you realized the impact that your words had. He was gone, and you didn't know how to get him back. But your life had to go on, so you tried to focus on your work.
The thing was, nothing about your day ever felt quite right. You felt uneasy proceeding through your rather uneventful life. You didn't even feel that same comfort that used to engulf you whenever you came to work. Though you tried to hide your dampened spirit, your coworkers still caught on. You played it off with excuses such as you hadn't slept well or that you just had a lot on your mind, not wanting to worry them, but you didn't know how well it worked. Because the truth was that you hurt. Your heart was in pain, and every night you came home to your empty apartment, you felt like another part of you was missing. Your energy was nonexistent, and by the end of the week, you didn't even have the willpower to eat. Instead, you collapsed onto your bed, letting sleep consume your exhausted body and spirit.
When you finally woke up, it was hard for you to discern how long you had been asleep. It was still dark out, so either you had only slept a handful of hours, or it had rolled over to the next day. Either way, you weren't sure how much you cared. Well, at least, until the aroma of food drifted past your senses. In particular, it smelled like one of your favorites.
For a moment, you wondered if you were still asleep. You definitely hadn't the energy to make your favorite dish, and there was no one else around to make it either. In your dream, anything could have been possible. Still, curiosity and hunger got the better of you, and you slowly got out of bed, hoping to get to the end of this mystery. Your feet made slow progress out of your room, and the moment they hit the cold hardwood floors made you regret forgetting your slippers. Your steps were tentative, particularly as they drew closer to the kitchen. You didn't know what to expect when you got there, but you proceded, the sizzling sound bringing you in. When the individual standing at the stove became clear to you, you almost gasped, though you stopped yourself from doing so. Still, even if you didn't make a noise, your presence to him was already known.
"You haven't been eating properly, and it seems like you lack energy. I thought making your favorite would help," the man stated evenly, not turning to face you.
You couldn't tell from his voice how he was feeling, and that almost made you hesitate in responding to him. "I… I didn't expect to see you again, Hoseok…" you murmured, choosing your words carefully. You fussed with your sweater sleeves to keep your hands warm, but it was also to distract yourself.
The slightest turn of his head signified that your response was not one he had been expecting. He let out a gentle sigh, realizing how on edge you must be with him in your presence again. "I'm… I'm your guardian angel. Whether I'm around you or not, I can tell how you're doing. I knew you were in pain, I could feel it. It made me realize how I blew this situation out of proportion. I made a mistake," he said sincerely. He turned off the stove and spun around to face you, the caution and concern evident on his face. "I'm really sorry."
His apology came far quicker than you had anticipated. His words made you realize that he also had a hard time being apart from you. Throwing caution to the wind, you slowly approached him. "I… I'm sorry too. I shouldn't have said those things about you…"
Hoseok shook his head. "They weren't wrong, though. You stated facts. I am far too overprotective of you. I worry about every little thing you do, but you're right. You're not a child anymore. You're an adult, an adult that can make her own decisions. If you want to go on this trip with your friends, then you should. I want you to be safe, but I also can't stop you from living. I'm just your angel. I'm only supposed to guide you, not run your life…"
"But you're also my best friend, Hoseok. I shouldn't have said that you were trying to run my life. I know that you care for me, and you're also important to me, just like the others are. Not having you here… I was so lonely, and I felt lost…"
Gently, Hoseok wrapped his arms around you, pulling you into the tightest hug. It was the type of embrace that brought you comfort. It was the type of hug that you associated with your best friend, and no one else. It was the warmth and safety that only Hoseok could provide. "I'm sorry for leaving your side. I won't do it again. And I promise I won't lose my temper like that again. And I'll go with you to make sure that you're okay on the trip," he promised.
"Thank you for coming back…" you said quietly, your face buried in his chest.
"I don't regret it. I don't regret saving you. And I promise you that from now on, I will always be here when you need me."
From that moment on, Hoseok's priorities changed. It was no longer about keeping you out of harm's way. Instead, his new resolve was to guide you towards the most fulfilling life you could have… and you were happy to have him there... every step of the way…

Yi! I am the anon who requested 16 and 77. You could do angst but with a happy ending?
Hi Anon! I did it! Finally xD sorry you had to wait so long. I might have more time on my hands but that doesn’t mean I always spend it wisely, or that my brain wants to cooperate when I tell it to make a story.
Man, I really love this prompt. You picked a gooden. I won’t officially pair it with prompt 16 because I’ve already used that number (though I did add a kiss in it for you ;))
Warning for mentions of suicide (no one named, no details, just mentioned).
I hope you like it ^_^
I’ve now done prompts for: #1, #2, #4 and #16, #9, #10, #77, #78, #170 and #502
I also have 3 prompts waiting for: #20, #33 and an addition to #170 so if you send me a new one in be prepared to wait a while!
77. You just stood there and held me, then you started dancin’ slow. And as I pulled you tighter I swore I’d never let you go. (Point Blank)
Sam and Dean had been gone for almost two weeks now. Cas wasn’t worried, they checked in on a daily basis with updates and requests for lore and questions about how Jack was settling back in so he knew they were okay. They were hunting something with some kind of mind altering tendencies, whether a djinn, wraith, witch or something else was yet to be determined but it had killed six people. The victims had complained of nightmares a few days before their deaths. Suicides, all of them, and not clean. The thing was proving difficult to track down, it didn’t seem to have a preference of victims, man or woman, old or young. Different ethnicities and social circles, there didn’t seem to be anything that linked them. Cas could sense their frustration, but no, he wasn’t worried.
He did miss them however, especially Dean. Jack was good company; they played board games and Cas taught him some of the basics of fighting with a blade, just in case he was ever faced with an enemy while he couldn’t use his powers. They watched Netflix together, the brightly-coloured modern cartoons that Sam and Dean scoffed at and Jack asked him questions about angels and monsters and lore of all kinds, but there was always a certain level of separation to it, in the way he understood that there had to be between parents and their children and there were less jokes than when the Winchesters were around, less laughter. Cas wasn’t very good at jokes. His dry humour would sometimes get a snort or a small chuckle, but that was the extent of it. He didn’t have Dean’s ability to goof around and act the fool, nor did he have Sam’s quick tact in knowing where to poke to cause a laugh rather than offence. Jack wasn’t very good at jokes either though, so they rubbed along quite well together.
It was on the twelfth morning that Sam called for the second time that day and when Cas looked at the phone he knew something had gone wrong.
“What happened?” He demanded without preamble.
“Dean had a nightmare.” Sam’s voice was tight and worried, “A bad one.”
Cas frowned. “That’s not too unusual. Unless you think…”
“The thing got him. Yeah.”
“So you have… what? Less than two days until he becomes a suicide risk?”
“Yeah.”
Cas clenched his jaw, reached his free hand up to rub at the bridge of his nose.
“You’re not far away, I can be there-”
“No,” Sam said firmly. “I don’t want Jack anywhere near this thing and you can’t leave him alone right now. You need to stay where you are. We’ll figure this out.”
“But-”
“I know,” Sam said, and he really did sound apologetic. “Trust me, I’d rather have you here too. But we have Jack to look after and I’m not actually sure you coming here would help Dean. I mentioned you before and he just kind of… froze up.”
“He did?” Cas frowned at the far wall, that didn’t make any sense.
“Yeah. And he got this look… I think his nightmare was about you, or had you in it or something. Of course, I don’t know because he won’t talk to me but… It might be best you stay away for now. I’ll keep you posted.”
Cas sighed, biting down on his instinct to run to the garage and grab a set of keys. With his failing grace there was no guarantee he’d be able to do something so complex as break a curse or purge a venom or completely undo a biological reaction#. There were certain intricacies involved and he wasn’t certain he had the strength. The brothers could still fix this on their own, they still had time.
“Alright.” He conceded. “I’ll give you forty-eight hours. But after that I’m coming to meet you. I can’t just sit here and wait for that call.” His voice wobbled a little at the end as his imagination ran wild. But it wasn’t just the thought of Dean taking his own life that terrified him… selfishly it was the idea that Cas needed to see him again, that he couldn’t let the last memory he had of Dean be one where he’d walked away.
“That’s fair.” Sam agreed, and Cas could picture him running a hand through his hair, the way he did when he was stressed and worried. “But it won’t be needed. We’ll fix this. We’ll kill the thing and it’ll be fine.”
“Get Dean to make a list of everyone he met or bumped into yesterday,” Cas said in lieu of something reassuring. He had complete faith in the brothers, knew that they were more than capable hunters, that Sam at least would do whatever it took to save Dean, but there was still a tiny kernel in his brain that whispered what if he can’t this time, and Cas knew that it wouldn’t go away until the danger had passed.
The rest of the phone call was tense and perfunctory, but once he hung up, not being able to hear Sam’s concern actually alleviated his own. The danger wasn’t immediate yet and he trusted them to find a solution fast.
Xxx
It took them until the next morning. Cas was sitting with Jack and they were talking over bowls of cereal with the kind of sugar content that always made Sam purse his lips. Jack hadn’t seemed overly concerned about Dean when Cas told him what had happened; apparently he had the same confidence in the Winchesters that Cas did, and his surety was comforting.
The phone rang and even though Cas was sure nothing was wrong, that this was just Sam’s daily update on the situation, his spoon went clattering back into the bowl, splattering milk everywhere as he jumped to answer it.
“Sam?” He said. His voice did not tremble.
“We got it.” Sam’s voice was pure relief. “Witch. We’ll be back in a couple hours.”
Cas sighed heavy and cleansing. The expression on his face must have told Jack everything he needed to know because he smiled, gave a thumbs up and went back to his cereal.
“I’m glad,” Cas said. “Dean’s alright?”
“Yeah, the curse has broken.” Sam hesitated then, and his voice dropped like Dean was close by and he didn’t want him to overhear. “But it was real tough on him. Sent him into some kind of waking nightmare. Screaming fit, something. So he might not want to celebrate or anything when we get back.”
Which was code for ‘don’t be offended if Dean locks himself in his room for the next three days.’
“Of course. It’ll just be good to have you home. See you soon, Sam.”
“Bye, Cas.”
Cas placed the phone down and smiled as Jack munched on his cereal.
“They’re heading back. They should be here by noon.”
“Cool,” Jack said around his spoon. “I’m glad Dean’s okay.”
“Me too,” Cas agreed.
“I mean… I wasn’t exactly worried,” Jack continued, a slight furrow in his brow. “Is that wrong? I don’t know if it’s because of my soul or if I just knew they’d make it back.”
“The Winchesters do have an excellent record for making it through these kinds of situations,” Cas said carefully. “It’s not wrong to expect them to always make it back. It’s easy to feel like the danger isn’t real when we have all faced so much worse than a rogue witch. But many experienced hunters get killed on routine cases. The danger is always real, sometimes it’s just a matter of luck.”
“Or a matter of having your lives written out by God,” Jack said, a slight quirk to his mouth that Cas couldn’t help but mirror.
“Yes. I suppose knowing that Chuck has a specific plan for them makes it easier,” he said. “Knowing Him, if Sam or Dean dies on an ordinary case He’ll just resurrect them until they can play out His story. Or at least, their own story. They’ve never been good at following rules.”
Xxx
It had just gone midday when the door of the bunker clanged loudly, indicating the return of the brothers. Cas hurried to the war room to meet them. It was silly perhaps but he wanted to see Dean for himself, to make sure that he was alright. Dean shuffled behind Sam, his head down. He looked pale and wan, like he often did after the kind of nightmare that drew Cas into his room to try and soothe away. Clearly, whatever the witch had done to him was going to take more than a gas station burrito and a drive in the impala to get over. Sam looked like he needed a hot shower and a long nap. He nodded to Cas as he passed, clapping him on the shoulder. When Dean caught sight of him though he stopped halfway through a step. He seemed to forget that he was walking and began to tip forwards. Concerned, Cas stepped in to catch him and found himself with Dean’s arms around his neck and Dean’s smell in his nose and Dean’s mouth on his and his whole existence narrowed to just Dean, Dean, Dean.
Thoroughly overwhelmed by the whole situation, Cas decided that his best course of action was not to move so he stood there stiffly until Dean pulled back, only to bury his face in Cas’ shoulder instead and, in a move more terrifying than the wrath of God, began to sob.
“I killed you.” Dean’s voice was tiny and broken, barely audible, even to his ears. “I killed you and you let me and I had to burn you all over again.”
Cas didn’t know what to say. What would be the point in telling Dean that it was just a bad dream brought on by a curse? That it wasn’t real? Dean knew that, just as Cas had known that the room full of Deans that Naomi had made him kill weren’t real. That didn’t make the guilt any easier to carry. So instead he said nothing, raising his arms to fold them around Dean’s back, pulling him closer.
“I felt it,” Dean muttered against his neck. “It was so real. I had to, I just knew that I had to. But I don’t know why, and it doesn’t matter. I don’t care what happens, I know that I can’t do that again. I don’t care if the world burns.”
“I love you.” Cas whispered back, because for the first time it needed to be said. It had existed in the in-between spaces of their lives, of course, their love. Cas knew that Dean felt it too, knew it probably before Dean himself had accepted it. But Cas had let it exist without acknowledgement. He didn’t need a declaration and Dean wasn’t ready to make one. The feeling was enough.
Dean didn’t say it back, but Cas felt it in the way he clung on tighter, his fingers digging into his shoulder blades even through his trenchcoat and shirt. So Cas said it again, and again, his words the song forever playing in his mind, a symphony of feeling. So he began to rock Dean along to the sound, soothing and slow, patient and endless, and it was almost dancing, he thought, tightening his own hold. And as he did so, he knew that be it forty more years or four more minutes, Castiel would be content if he got to spend them holding Dean.

Can you do a scenario for Law s/o can take people souls and body parts (likes Law) so she decides to take something of Laws that calls himself a man (if you know what I'm mean) and hides to where he can't find her, she calls him on his transponder snail and tells him she that she wants to play a game. She torture Law by pleasuring him very slow until he's a moaning mess (like screaming and begging) later that day Law gets revenge. Can you make it a long and rough NSFW please.
LOVE how Tumblr just randomly decided to reload the site while I was finishing this up so I could re-do all of my changes again :)
I hope I got this right and that youdon’t mind, but I changed certain things up a little bit (mainly by having Law accidentally givehis girlfriend the ‘you-know-what’ and forgetting to take it backinstead xD
This goes without saying but big warning for some odd(?) filth under the cut~!
Dirty Law scenario: Taken
Tumblr media
A goddamn fool. That’s the term Lawwould use to describe himself right now. His hands were shaking as hestared down at the bowl sitting right infront of him, almost as ifthis ‘special soup á la Bepo’ held the answer to all of hisquestions, especially those concerning his current situation. The surgeons cheeks wereflushed and sweat ran down his forehead as he impatiently bounced hislegs against the ground, sometimes loud enough to distract from allthe little groans that escaped from his throat. How the hell did he forget? How the hell could he forget?! For a moment his eyes wandered down to his lapto check again and make sure that this wasn’t just an awful dream-but no, there was indeed nothing there. Another groan escaped hislips as he looked across the table, past all the concerned lookingcrewmates that hesitantly slurped their soup, and right into the eyesof the culprit. A faux innocent smile was dancing on (Y/N)’s lipsas she slowly lifted her spoon while wiggling her eyebrows in Law’s direction as she noticed his staring. How. Dare. She.
Said man clenched his teeth andmuttered a low curse before lowering his gaze to look at the souponce more. Oh, this was far from being over.
Last night certainly was wild- after all, both he and (Y/N)did all sorts of crazy stuff to work off their desperation and pent up tension- and while it felt amazing to completely let go of allworries and concerns for a brief moment, the surgeon made a terriblemistake. At some point he… god, Law couldn’t even remember how exactly ithappened, but he must have…. 'taken off’ his dick and handed it to(Y/N) so she could have some ‘fun’ while he probably watched (which was, to be honest, one ofthe hottest things they ever added to their collections of odd kinks),but- appearantly, Law must have forgotten to… ‘reattach’ it afterwards. So the next morning, while stillfeeling calm and relaxed from the great sex, the grumpy pirate was quickto notice that his girlfriend was missing from the bed. Must have gotten up early,he quickly assumed and walked into the bathroom to get ready himself, which was when he noticed. Something was wrong. Or, to be morespecific, something was missing. An until this point unknown feeling of panic immediately spread through hiswhole body and mind, the former state of relaxation now completelygone as Law tried to recall what exactly happened to his cock lastnight.
And then the call.
God forbid that you just leave him be for one day and not pull something that would get Law all worked upagain. What kind of game was this to you? Hiding from him, evadinghim- even threatening to hurt his manhood if he’d dare to come lookfor you!!! This whole day was just pure torture, you were clearly using thissituation for your own sick amusement while he was forced to walk around thesubmarine, barely able to go on with his daily chores and things whiletrying to repress any urges rising up- because clearly you weresomewhere, playing with him (or rather, his cock) while he had to stay strong and endure all ofit. And ontop of that, you even had the gall to show up to lunch withthat huge smile on your face and a little box by your side- oh Law knewwhat was inside but couldn’t do anything about it- which you were aware of, of course. I mean, imagine ifhis crewmates caught wind of this? No, he would not deal with that, might as well open a hatch and drown himself in the sea.Clearly you must have had some sort of wicked plan or perhaps just felt confident enough to make such a bold move, because now the surgeon wassitting across from you with his whole body shaking while you allowedyour hand to wander into the box every now and then to edge him on even further.
Oh you were going to pay dearly forthis, Law silently swore to himself while his eyes burned a hole into the bowlwith soup infront of him. Luckily the awkward lunch break didn’tlast too long either, and after a few small spoons of what he assumed to be simple cabbage water the young surgeon rosefrom the table to head into the direction of his room, but notbefore coldly staring at you once more and basically giving you the silent orderto come along. A small giggle escaped your tender lips as you stoodup as well and grabbed the box, which was already rumored to hold some sortof forbidden treasure by Shachi and Penguin, and quickly followedafter your boyfriend. However, much to your suprise, Law almost immediately seemed to vanish from your sight as you exited the kitchen to accompany him through the hallway- but with a simple shrug you carried on, humminghappily as you made your way into his large bedroom. Well, and fromthere on out things got… wild. again.
You barely managed to fully enter the room as thedoor already slammed shut behind you, and a cold hand quickly wrapped itself around yourwrist and basically pushed you against the wall. Upon looking up you came faceto face with your boyfriend, who was still gritting his teeth with aflushed expression dancing on his tired features. That sight alone already caused another giggle toescape from you as you tightly held onto the box- which was undoubtlythe thing Law was after, even if his eyes were locked on your face.
„I think you have something thatbelongs to me…“ was all he managed to get out, his voice sounding strained and hoarse as his hand slightly squeezed your wrist. But instead of giving in and ending this little game as well as his desperation, you decided to continueteasing him. „Mh… do I now? I think you’ll have toremind me,“ you pouted and blinked a few times to fakeignorance, but a moment later Law’s other hand slammed againstthe wall right next to your face, his expression furious as he slowlypressed himself against you in an attempt to keep you trapped between the wall and his body.
„Enough with the games, (Y/N)-ya,“the young man growled and lowered his gaze, seemingly prepared to just go ahead andgrab the box- but you were faster and quickly freed your hand from his grip andreached inside of it, giving its content a tight squeeze. Lawimmediately threw his head back as he started to hiss with unbearablepleasure and pain as you reminded him of who it was that had the upperhand.
„Your tone seems pretty pointed rightnow… why don’t you relax a bit~?“ you smirked and started to rub alonghis shaft again, which was already stuck in a constant state of hardness thanks toyour treatment. But of course you would always stop with touching it before Law couldactually come. All this pent up pleasure and the need to release made your boyfriend feel and look quite animalistic, after all he found himself close to losing itmultiple times throughout the day. But now that you were right there infront of him, enough was enough.
„AAAAH!!“ you suddenly started toshriek as your back rubbed against the wall- Law was nowlooming over you with his face only inches away from yours, and thehand that had previously grasped your wrist was now forcing its wayinto your pants, where it immediately started to rub against the fabric of yourpanties. And as expected, carrying his dick around all day did havean effect on you as well, which caused him to groan with relief. Now you weren’t exactly 'wet’, butLaw could clearly feel the heat that was radiating off of your core.Out of habit your hips started to grind against his coldhand, which immediately send a shiver down your spine as youtightened your grip around his manhood, forcing the surgeon release another loudgroan.
„Not so much fun getting roughenedup, right (Y/N)-ya?“ he growled and aggressively pinched your sensitive nub through your panties, which caused you to cry out in amix of pleasure and pain. „Hnnn… you…“ a disappointedwhimper left your lips as you paid him back by vigorously stroking along his shaft, but that only encouraged Law to rub against your still clothed entrance even faster.
„Whatever you do, now that I got you right here… I can pay you backeven worse,“ he whispered hoarsely and quickly pushed yourpanties aside to insert a single digit into your womanhood, causingyou to arch your back and press yourself against him with need. Truthto be told, having him treat you roughly like this after what you puthim through this day was actually exactly what you had anticipated, and the way Law looked at you, almost as if he was a feral beast…it was too much to handle. A loud moan escaped from your throat asyour hand held onto his arm while he continued to finger you, but unfortunately his mind wasn’t really as clouded as you had expected, and that small moment of carelessness from you was enough for Law to smirk ashe quickly pulled the box from you and almost jumped backwards, causinghis fingers to leave your hot womanhood in the process. „E-Eh…?“you blinked a few times as you noticed that the box as well as his hands and body were gone, and upon looking back at your boyfriend you couldn’t help butpout. Seems like your little game came to an early conclusion…
„Oh… not fair! You tricked me!“you huffed with faked anger as Law reached inside the box, seeminglyignoring you in the process, and pulled out his hard and erect cock. „Goddamn it, (Y/N)-ya…“ he hissedthrough clenched teeth as holding his manhood alone already send morepleasure down his body, but then a quick look at your squirming figure caused a light bulb to suddenly go off inhis mind as Law‘s eyes locked on you- or, more specifically- acertain spot between your legs…
Within the blink of an eye he waslooming over you again, his face cold and unmoving as he quicklypulled both your pants and panties down with one swift motion. „L-Law?“ you tilted your head tothe side as you reached out to wrap your arms around your boyfriendfor support, unsure on what he was going to do. I mean… judging byhis actions you’d assume that he was going to fuck you like usual, but… Hisdick was still not where it belonged, so what was he doing?!
„I bet you had a lot of fun doingthis last night, (Y/N)-ya… Too bad I can’t remember most of it, butperhaps this’ll help jog my memory…?“ he muttered and spreadyour legs with one hand while the other one was tightly holding ontohis still detached dick, now bringing it closer and closer to yourbo- oh. Was this it? Your eyes widened with shock as he suddenlyrammed his length inside of you, immediately causing your eyes to rollback with pleasure as he pulled it out again, only to slam it rightback in. You could feel his hot and ragged breathing as sweat randown Law’s browbone; his eyes were half-closed as he moved hisdick in and out of your dripping core at a fast pace. This was the sort of relief hewas seeking the whole day because of you and your ‘game’, and it didn’t matterwhether it was his hips or hands that allowed him to bury himself inside of yourdepths, he just needed to feel you. His hand speed up more and more as moan after moan rolled offyour tongue, your walls tightly clenched around him as the sight of Law fucking you with his detached dick only turned you on more and more.
Neither one of you was able to keep this going for long though, and after a few more powerful thrusts you felt your orgasm approaching- which caused Law to groan and lift one of your legs over his shoulder so hecould thrust in even deeper and fully bury himself in your warmth until he reached his climax and paintedyour insides white. His hand was keeping a tight hold on the base of his cock as his entire body began to shake, and a moment later you released a loud cry of your own to signal that you reached the edge as well.
Did he ever manage to fuck you that deep before…? Probably not, and as you tried to calm down yourbreathing your gaze wandered down to his now stained dick stillresting in his hand, which caused a small laugh to mix in with your panting. Your arms were still wrapped around his neck as you leaned forward topress a playful kiss to his warm cheek before whispering:
„So… are you all better? Then, can I have my little toy back now~?“

Face to Unfamiliar Face Pt 6
By @10moonymhrivertam
I don’t know if you’ll be able to tell…but Vi’s idiom list came out as I was writing this part XD
Two of my idioms have roots in the Discord, though.
1. “someone holds their name” The place holder before I came out with this was [in his pocket], with political/corruption connotations.
2. “Going under with the grindylows” basically ‘sleeping with the fishes’
*
Patton stared at Virgil and Logan for all of about two seconds before he turned around. Roman’s grandma was already heading inside. Pat grabbed Roman’s sleeve and tugged him toward the door until he started moving under his own power. Then Patton backtracked, but he froze. He wanted Leith to come inside with him, but a phantom handprint-shaped flame burned at his throat when he thought about reaching out. If that was what someone who supposedly was grateful to his Dad could do, what would a fae who thought Patton disrespected them do? Leith turned his head slightly and then breezed past Patton into the house. Patton tried not to sag with relief. Thomas squeezed his shoulder as he went by. Patton hurried to make his way into the house. He shut the door behind him to complete the privacy for the pair grieving outside.
Roman was fussing by his grandma. Thomas had claimed a spot on the couch and had put his head between his knees. Patton’s eyes fell on the space beside the door. He jumped. Leith was still standing right by the door.
“You’re White’s godson, right?” Patton suddenly felt spring-loaded. “A shame.”
“What’s a shame?” Thomas asked sharply. He’d picked up his head slightly to stare intensely at Leith.
“It’s a shame that Pat is unhappy. That is certainly not what she intended. She speaks at length about hypotheticals regarding you, and while she did expect you’d be like a Summer in snow without training, she had not exactly anticipated that you would be so…” Patton’s shoulders drew in as Leith searched for words. “Outright upset.”
Patton thought he might be shaking as his nails started to dig into his palms - not upset? How could he be anything else? He could hardly speak to his parents, and forget about making friends! He couldn’t remember the details of it now, but he knew something had gone wrong with his voice when his fairy godmother had first given it to him - something bad. About the only good thing it had ever got him was making him a living shield for anyone Chad decided to bully after one slip-of-the-tongue back in kindergarten.
“Hey, Maleficent. Back off,” Roman advised, suddenly right beside Leith.
“Not so close,” Patton rasped, because otherwise he would lash out with his hands, and that was wrong. He whimpered as Roman went glassy-eyed and took several steps back.
“Okay! That’s good!” He cried desperately. The glassy look went away, and Roman frowned. Patton curled in on himself.
“…I’m not mad,” Roman offered after a few moments. “I was too close. I get it. Need us to give you space?”
“I’m sorry. I don’t - I don’t want to be alone. Sorry.”
“Then we won’t leave you alone.” Patton slowly met Roman’s eyes. He wasn’t magically not nervous anymore, but he did radiate sincerity. Patton wanted to ask if maybe Roman would sit on the couch with him, but as soon as it was about asking for something, his words dried up again. He fidgeted, twisting his hands together.
“Sit,” Leith urged eventually, gesturing toward the couch. Patton shuffled over and plopped down with a respectful distance between him and Thomas. Roman hovered in front of the couch and Patton hurried to scooch to the arm of the sofa so there was plenty of room for him. He settled in the space with a soft ‘thanks’ for Patton. Patton glanced at him, taking that sincerity in again. It was strange, but more than welcome.
“So, do you have any idea what’s going on?” Leith asked Thomas, perching on the arm of the sofa beside him.
“Mostly. The dragon was, um, Greta Fischer. She and Virgil were friends before his enchanted sleep, which the Serpent King cast. She…made a deal, to make sure Virgil could come back someday. It…went a little sideways in the last hundred years.”
“How so?” Leith’s brow furrowed.
“I’m guessing that’s where the ‘yelling at Mamaw’ part of Logan’s plan comes in.”
“The what part?” Ms. Gage demanded of her grandson from the threshold between the kitchen and living room.
“The changeling Green Man said something about a shawl that would wake the Spider Prince?” Leith turned his gaze on Ms. Gage. Her lips pursed and she looked away. “You’re going to want to finish it.”
“What do you know about it?”
“I know that if the Spider Prince isn’t really dead, his authority never really went away, so it’s not going to snap to the Serpent King’s closest relative. It’s going to be on the Spider Prince. Which means without someone having his blessing, the forest - well, one could imagine it going under with the grindylows.”
Silence filled the living room. Patton started biting his nails. Before anyone could find words, the door opened again. The Spider Prince was still ethereal, but the puffy eyes and tear tracks grounded him a little.
“Did I hear you talking about the forest?”
Leith went stiff like a statue, and began speaking mechanically.
“The spirit mentioned killing the King, and I was under the impression that those of you that came from another place were going back now that she’s at rest. I…am not looking forward to living under that power vacuum.”
“Shit,” Virgil said, blinking. “Shit. You’d think the only thing I was good for is sharpening knives.”
Leith didn’t move, but Pat got the impression he was surprised. Roman didn’t make a secret of staring at the Spider Prince. With the power vacuum concern introduced, Patton expected Leith to double down on his point to Ms. Gage, especially now that the prince was actually in the room, but his gaze was fixed on the floor and his lips were pressed very firmly together.
“Okay. New plan. Fix the forest before we go home.” Virgil pressed his hands to his temples. “Waking other me up is obviously just…not gonna happen. Oh, dark and air, I have to pick someone, don’t I?”
“I couldn’t offer you a more logical solution at the moment,” Logan agreed.
“Okay. Now I just have to remember everyone whose name he held and not pick them.”
“Bell,” Logan said immediately. “As soon as she saw you were not as dead as he’d implied, she helped us. Or at least offered to hear us out.”
“Will she hear us out with him dead, though?”
An uncomfortable silence fell upon the two. Logan steepled his fingers and pressed the tips to his lips, his gaze fixing in the distance. Logan sighed.
“Well. We know White doesn’t feel the same way about humans as he did, at least.”
“No, she’s not strong enough,” Virgil dismissed. Logan’s eyes roamed from side to side, then fell on Leith. Patton had a feeling it was probably a good thing Leith was looking at the floor and not Logan. He caught Virgil’s eyes and then nodded at the Green Man, cocking an eyebrow. Virgil considered him, then shook his head.
“Sure, there’d be balance, and there’s power, but age-wise? Not a good idea.”
Logan contemplated for another moment before dropping his hands and shrugging. “We may as well talk to Bell, then. I don’t recall anyone else in the Court we might be able to trust with something of this magnitude.”
“What do I say? ‘Hey, not dead, just asleep, and even though I’m talking to you now, the me you know is actually still asleep?”
“Luau!” Roman blurted, complete with jazz hands. Patton let out a snorting giggle and quickly covered his mouth and nose.
“I was thinking a Gilligan Cut would be appropriate there, as well,” Logan admitted, grinning. The grin melted into a more somber expression. “Regardless of what we say, we need to say it sooner than later. If the forest isn’t already in chaos, it will be soon.”
“Right,” Virgil said grimly, turning to go.
********
Bell’s mind was running wild. The phantasmal dragon had flown in as though freshly created from the dark and air, and now their King was dead. The screaming had begun immediately, despite the fact that the dragon had disappeared. Bell assigned herself to crowd control while someone else - must be his current favored pet, or something - got a closer look at the body and added their wailing to the cacophony. She was not looking forward to the headache that awaited her when all this calmed down…
Things were only just getting into some semblance of order when a very familiar figure suddenly appeared on the King’s dais. The same figure that had taken the ring from him and left him cursing and furious. The figure nobody had been quite sure they believed they saw. The Prince set down the human - no, something else: pointed ears - in his arms with a murmured apology. The boy murmured something in return, clasping his hands behind his back and locking his knees.
“I am who you think I am…and I am not who you think I am,” he announced. Well. That was a dangerously intriguing contradiction. Regardless of whether he was who he looked like, he must be Fae, after popping out of the shadows like that - everyone was suddenly burning to know his reasoning.
“And who are you assuming we think you are?” Bell dared to ask. His eyes fixed on her, and he seemed pleased.
“Someone who rumor suggested was dead.”
“Mere rumor?”
“Rumor enough for this turn of events to be dangerous. Isn’t it curious…a hundred years of ruling, and coveting the throne for longer than that, and ‘King’ never stuck to his name?”
“Names are slow to settle.” He was right, though. It should’ve settled on him at least twenty-five years ago - honestly, it shouldn’t have taken longer than a decade or two to start sticking - especially if he had been coveting the throne. “So I take it to mean there was something unseemly about the manner in which he took the throne?”
“The forest is old, and has the right to rule herself, but she gifted it to the Spider Prince. The Serpent Prince consistently failed to understand that.”
Bell frowned.
“Did the Spider Prince entrust the right further along his line?”
“No, he was a little busy regretting getting used to the contradictory nature of really scathing sarcasm. He was asleep before he could even think about properly granting the rulership to another.”
“And now?”
“Asleep in a witch’s clearing, in a casket made of tears of grief.”
“Asleep still?”
“Even with the Serpent Prince dead, you mean? He put a caveat on it.” He smirked at her. “Or, maybe you mean: asleep, even while I stand here speaking to you? Yes.”
“How?” Bell demanded.
“A non-local with the ability to thin the walls between possibilities. But I figured I could stand in for the Spider Prince here.”
“Hold on. You’re from a different…possibility? So how can you speak with such confidence?”
“We’re fairly certain we’ve isolated a very specific and recent divergence. But I can vouch for the existence of the casket here, with the Spider Prince inside.” The human-looking one’s knees were still locked, but his posture was softening the longer he stood there - perhaps the method of travel had disagreed with him?
“I find I’m curious about the divergence.” Bell pressed. The two fairies looked at each other, and then turned back to her. The smaller fairy took a moment to choose his words.
“I am the embodiment of the possibility…that the fairies can lose control over a changeling transaction.” He smiled. His teeth were Fae-sharp and his eyes gleamed, and yet there was something human about it - the defiant smugness, maybe. “And that was really quite recent, in the grand scheme of things.”
“We can’t guarantee everything’s the same,” the Prince took back over. “But it would be unwise to throw out the similarities.”
Bell stared back at them. “What do you propose?”
“For now? A private conversation with you, madam, is all we ask.”
Bell frowned at them. Why her? She glanced around the clearing. Well, the damage was done now. Even if she didn’t agree to speak with them, their attention had made everyone too sharply aware of her. She might as well actually receive any perceived favoritism.
“Very well.” Bell, head held high, made her way to the dais.
“I have somewhere to speak in mind, if that’s alright.”
She side-eyed the Spider Prince. She gave a measured nod after several moments. He offered her a polite elbow, and she slipped her arm into it. He drew his changeling companion in close. Then the shadows closed around them.
When they stopped moving, they were just outside the forest. He released her and turned a dangerous amount of his attention to his changeling.
“Hey. You didn’t have to do that.”
“Ridiculous. I wasn’t letting you go into that alone, and walking would not have gotten us there in a timely fashion,” the boy dismissed.
“I could’ve handled it.”
“I didn’t want you to. I don’t feel atrocious.”
The Spider Prince sighed. “Go see if Oma will make you some soup or something.”
At least the changeling was wary enough to glance at her, but after his eyes flickered back to the prince, he walked away, just like that. Bell frowned at the Prince.
“Your proposition?” She prompted.
“That…until your Spider Prince wakes, or until you grow tired enough to entrust someone else with the throne, it could fall to you.”
Bell stared at him. He stared back.
“Who else have you considered?”
“There are a number of candidates, but you’re the first I’ve interviewed.”
“Why not interview them all first?”
“Because I chose not to.” His voice was mild and his smile didn’t hold the threat she was used to seeing in the Serpent King’s when he said those words. She let her eyes drift away and frowned, contemplating it. It was so surreal. Just moments ago, she’d had a King. Suddenly, she wondered how she could be sure he was really dead, and how she could be sure she was not setting herself up for punishment, but - that was just her fears playing with her. She’d known what had been going on before her eyes. And now the Prince was going to offer her the throne?
“Why not yourself?”
“Have to hop possibilities. Charming as this one is, sorting out the Serpent Prince’s mess once was enough. Actually, scratch the past tense. I’m still dealing with it. I don’t need to backtrack.”
Bell fell quiet again, looking back to the forest. She glanced back to the Spider Prince.
“Presumably, if she has the right to rule herself, she will be watching over me. Is there anything I ought to know that the Serpent King elected not to pay any mind to?”
His lips pursed, which may as well answer her question. The time he took to contemplate his answer, however, made her nearly wary enough to reach for her sword.
“The balance is critical. I know I can’t ask you all to change overnight. But the forest is sick, and it will only get sicker if you don’t at least make a cursory effort to treat the Seelies like an actual, vital part of the court.” Ah. That was why he’d hesitated. From the weight in his voice, this was non-negotiable. She knew that there was an element of barter in their conversation, and now she had a better idea of the scope of it - clearly, she was on the ‘better suited’ end of his spectrum of candidates, and if she couldn’t promise that, he was going to have to find someone he considered less suited. She rested her hand on the sword as she contemplated their positions, and how smoothly that might go.
“…I will need you to stay long enough to acknowlege me - publically. Getting the other Gentry to behave otherwise could be like singing to the echoes.”
The Prince grimaced, but nodded. Silence hovered over them. “Any other questions?”
“When do you expect this regency to end?”
“Whether it’s to be a regency or a reign mostly depends on how well a changeling can harangue a witch. And whether we’ve made a good impression while we’re here on the rest…” he trailed off and looked toward the house. Bell was burning to know, but not quite badly enough to irritate anyone parallel to their prince, even on the off-change that he could be less powerful than expected.
“And if it’s a reign, I can pass it on to whomever I please?”
“If it’s a reign, I won’t be here to stop you.” The prince shrugged. There was the hint of a grimace at his face, but otherwise he seemed neutral. Bell nodded to herself. Silence fell. Strangely, the Prince did not seem to mind overly much, though his gaze wandered back to the house.
“Let’s go in for a while.” The prince paused after a few steps. “The witch will probably be rude. Deliberately. You’re not to do anything about what she says while I’m here either now or once you’ve taken the throne.”
“And if she disrespects me, personally, after I’ve taken the throne?”
“When your prince wakes up, he won’t be pleased.” One of her fresher scars throbbed a little at his matter-of-fact tone, and she pressed her lips together and nodded sharply as she followed him inside.

@totallycorrectghostpokemonquotes here ya go XD
Froslass: Gengar, you would not believe what I saw this morning when I was folding laundry! It was the most amazing thing!
Gengar: Was it the ghost of Rotom rising from the grave to take the region back to its proud Kantonian way?
Froslass: No. No, it wasn’t.
Gengar: Shame…
Froslass: It was an alien!
Gengar: WHAT?!
Froslass: I know! I just got done starching and I saw it! It was so bright and so shiny and I almost dropped the iron on the cat because it was so amazing!
Gengar: And you’re sure it wasn’t Spiritomb and the Russians?
Froslass: No sweetie, I’m sure it wasn’t Spiritomb and the Russians.
Gengar: Well, damn again… now how should I know that what you saw was actually some sort of extra-terrestrial and not some sort of weather balloon or Soviet Russia's Invasion?
Froslass: Because I’m your wife, Gengar, not some power hungry communist or a big weather balloon flying around.
Gengar: But you’re a woman.
Froslass, laughing: Of course I’m a woman sweetie!
Gengar: …Right. But there’s no way of confirming what you saw was an alien coming to Earth or not.
Froslass: Well I saw it, and… and Polteageist across the street saw it too! We were both doing our laundry and we both saw it at the same time!
Gengar: Hmmm… another woman. I’ll call up her husband Shedinja, we fought together back in the war and he should be able to confirm what this whole ordeal is about.
Froslass: Perfect! I’ll go and make deviled eggs and Jell-O pudding and talk politics! Maybe even this time I can vote for myself.
Gengar: Great idea! I love Jell-O pudding! Let me call Shedinja up right now. *Talking to Shedinja* Hello Shedinja, me and my woman here would like for you and your woman to come over and talk about things. Alright. Sounds great. See you at 4. Arceus Bless Kanto. Death to Spiritomb. Okay. Buh-Bye. *to Froslass* They’ll be here at 4. I’m going to read the newspaper.
Froslass: Do you think she’ll make something? Last year when we were celebrating the 4th, do you remember when she brought the tuna fish casserole? I never thought to use onions! Onions of all ingredients! And then she brought the quilted napkins and I told her, I said “Polteageist, I just can’t belie-“
Gengar: Null matters woman, her tuna casserole tasted like pesto and regret. Don’t bother me anyway, as I am reading the newspaper. Oh, seems here, a bird Pokémon named Decidueye wants to make Pokémon equal.
Froslass: He’ll probably get shot somewhere in Cerulean City.
Gengar: You’re probably right. Says here Sears and Roebuck are going to make more catalog houses in the area. They’ll never go bankrupt!
Froslass: No chance!
Gengar, laughing: Ah… I trained you right.
*Shedinja rushes in*
Shedinja: Gengar!
Gengar: By Arceus, Shedinja! I haven’t seen you since the war!
Shedinja: Still smoke without a filter?
Gengar: Still a lazy drunk that cries when your mother writes?
Shedinja: You dog! So good to see you!
*Polteageist enters*
Polteageist: Did somebody ask for tuna casserole!
Gengar and Shedinja: NOPE!
Froslass: I did! Oh and it smells the same as it did last year!
Gengar: You two go off and do something feminine while we talk about things we believe are too logical for you to understand.
Froslass and Polteageist: Okay!
*Froslass and Polteageist leave*
Gengar: So Shedinja, when I go home today, Froslass said the wildest thing to me!
Shedinja: Did Rotom rise from the grave to bring Kanto back to its true form?
Gengar: Sadly no.
Shedinja: Damn.
Gengar: But what she did say was particularly peculiar and that’s why I wanted to have you over for dinner. She said she that she along with your wife, saw an alien in the sky this morning!
Shedinja: An alien, you say… not a communist invasion lead by Spiritomb?
Gengar: No, I already got rid of that idea.
Shedinja: Weather balloon?
Gengar: That too. What I’m worried about is that if she is right, we’re going to have to tell the paper, and then there’s going to be people everywhere and the military is going to come…
Shedinja: Not to mention that we’re going to have to admit they’re right.
Gengar: That too! I just haven’t been able to make up my mind on whether she saw an alien or not!
Shedinja: Here’s an idea; let’s eat dinner and test them to see if they actually saw aliens. If what they say makes sense, we’ll call the paper and tell them that what they saw and… *rambling*
*Froslass and Polteageist enter*
Froslass: We’re back, you two!
Gengar: *to Shedinja* But they’re women!
Froslass and Polteageist: We are!
Froslass: Gengar, I don’t know why you keep saying that. I’m obviously a woman, you know… how we’re trying to have a baby…
Shedinja: You found a good one.
Gengar: I really did.
Shedinja: Mine just wants to talk about artifacts all the time.
Polteageist: You know Gengar, I’ve been meaning to ask you about where you got your little Tapu fellow at, he’s just so cute!
Gengar: You weren’t kidding.
Shedinja: Not one bit.
Gengar: I hope she has good child-bearing hips. Do you folks want to start dinner?
Everyone: Of course!
Gengar: Great. Froslass, take it away!
Froslass: Okay. What do you want me to take?
Gengar: You- you- you- Just bring the food woman.
Froslass: Oh… okay!
Shedinja: Like a dog, Docile.
Gengar: Exactly. Polteageist, would you mind saying grace? I feel like I haven’t heard a word from you this evening!
Polteageist: That’s how you boys like it! I’ll start if you insist. Dear figure of omnipotence, may you rest in peace somewhere peaceful, like Poni Wilds or somewhere close to that.
Froslass: I hear Alola is quite nice this time of year.
Polteageist: And they have the world’s biggest artifact museum in their region!
Shedinja: Hush woman! Proceed.
Polteageist: Anyway Mr. Arceus, I hope you can do all the things we want in the world or something like that. Also, I really hope my casserole doesn’t flop, last 4th of July, I put way too much pesto in it.
Gengar: I told you, Froslass. I told you.
Polteageist: Oh, and don’t forget to get rid of my dad’s cancer. Amen!
*silence*
Gengar: That was beautiful Polteageist. Now let’s dig into this tuna casserole and-- OH MY ARCEUS!
Froslass, Shedinja, and Polteageist: What?
Gengar: AN ALIEN!
*a ridiculously colored Blacephalon enters*
Blacephalon: Hey guys, did I make it into Alola?
*everyone starts screaming*
Gengar: By Arceus!
Froslass: It’s an alien!
Shedinja: From another planet!
Polteageist: That somehow speaks English!
*silence… then contunied screaming*
Gengar, holding a chair: Fend off, satanic being or this chair will be perpetually stuck in your face!
Blacephalon: What do you mean?
Gengar: I mean, I will beat the devil outta you, you devilish foe!
Blacephalon: Why are you talking like that?
Gengar: I… Don’t know.
Blacephalon: Well anyway, do any of you guys know where Alola is?
Polteageist: Why do you want to go to Alola?
Blacephalon: Well, you see, I was initially planning on Galar but then my other alien friend, Lunala, was all like “Nah, man, Alola.” and I was all like “Alola?” and she was all like “Alola!” so yeah…she died on entry but I still wanted to play the slots, ya know?
Froslass: We’re in Kanto.
Blacephalon: Now how far is that from Alola?
Froslass: Very far… from Alola.
Blacephalon: Oh…
Shedinja: Listen here, you white freak! What’s going to happen to you is that I am going to go next door, grab my M1, come right back here, and shoot you in the face!
Blacephalon: No, you’re not.
*Blacephalon kills Shedinja*
Gengar: By Arceus! Why have you done this? Such horror is none I’ve ever seen before!
Blacephalon: Look, buddy, you really gotta stop talking like that. It’s weird.
Gengar: You’re weird.
Blacephalon: Uh, yeah. I’m an alien. So, I killed him because he was going to kill me first. And I’ll kill you if you keep talking like that. *starts mocking Gengar*
*Froslass and Polteageist laugh at Gengar*
Gengar: That’s not fair.
Blacephalon: Well, life isn’t fair, kiddo. Trust me, I’ve been alive for 3 million years.
Gengar: That explains the wrinkles-
Blacephalon: Thin fucking ice Gengar! You are walking on thin fucking ice!
Gengar: Wait, how do you know my name?
Blacephalon: The person writing this script made an error. Listen, what I’m going to do is that I’m going to take a straight shot from here to Alola, making a stop for some Kantonian BBQ, make a fortune on slots, and spend the rest of my life as an alcoholic in Hau'oli City. This *kicks Shedinja* never happened.
Froslass: Wait a second… make a fortune?
Blacephalon: Yeah baby. You, me, and all of the money in the world!
Polteageist: Can I come along? I hear Alola has the biggest artifact collection in the world!
Blacephalon: Sure thing suga, go outside and warm up our ride.
Froslass: You fly an alien spaceship?
Blacephalon: Actually, I rented a Buick. It’s got leather seats though!
Polteageist: Leather?! *knocks over Gengar to EXIT*
Gengar: You- you can’t just do that to me!
Froslass: I’m sorry Gengar, it’s just that he’s so charming and he’s going to make good money, and his Buick has leather seats!
Blacephalon: So does my regular spaceship.
Froslass: And his spaceship too!
Gengar: That is kinda cool. Just one thing before you take my wife and go for BBQ and slot machines…what planet are you from?
Blacephalon: *puts on MLG glasses* Planet Cool. Come on woman, let’s go eat some brisket and make interstellar love, ratio 2 to 1.
Froslass: You had me at brisket!
Blacephalon: Oh, and don’t forget that tuna casserole, Gengar. I smell pesto!
*Blacephalon and Froslass leave arm-in-arm*

Shattered Reflections {20}
[Helsa RP- Fanfic]
Fandom: Frozen
Genre: Post-Frozen/ Canon Divergence
- Hurt/Comfort, Drama, Romance
Pairing(s): Hans/Elsa, Kristoff/Anna
Previous Chapter: 19.Girls’ Night
A/N:
Prepare for Puns xD
20. Boys’ Night
While the sisters had a lovely tea party inside their pillow fort, the boys’ night out was continuing to be unsurprisingly uneventful. Kristoff had finished brushing Sven a while ago, and now the boys were stuck roaming around the courtyard, encircling it for what seemed like the millionth time. Olaf got bored fairly easily, so of course he tried to nullify his boredom himself the only way he knew how, by talking, practically non-stop, barely letting Kristoff get a word in edgewise. Olaf's virtually self-supporting conversation consisted of him rambling stories, spontaneously jumping into song, and (the part that actually required Kristoff to be present to answer them) curious questions.
"...magic, so I guess Elsa's like my mom, but kids seem to have both a mom and a dad, and they don't have magic --at least I don't think they do-- so it's got me thinking, how do people make babies without magic?" Olaf wondered curiously, it one of the countless questions he had asked that night.
Kristoff had always been a good listener, so he didn't mind the rambling. They could possibly have done other things, but Kristoff was at least vaguely aware of Hans' whereabouts and wanted to be sure he was nearby in case he was needed. He wasn't oblivious to boredom per se-- just too focused on everything else to process it.
He just about choked when he tuned in to Olaf's question. He certainly made a sound like it, but he cleared his throat.
"Why is this not the first time I've been asked that?" He asked, more to himself and his gods than anything. "It involves complex biology and is way more gross than you'd want it to be..." He started.
"Oh look, we have company!" He changed the subject quickly and pointed out Hans and the Captain wandering home. In spite of the drinking, Hans seemed little more wobbly than he already had been with his injury.
"Ahoy Admiral!" Kristoff called, just to draw attention and avoid the question from Olaf.
"View Hallou!" Hans replied, curious what he was being hailed for. "The night is young and we are getting older." Hans joked dryly to the Captain, wandering to meet Kristoff and the party. "Well if it isn't the little snow-prince and the Arendelle royal cavalry. Good evening gentlemen. And I am counting the reindeer." He gave a respectful greeting gesture to all of them, perhaps especially the reindeer.
"I'm Sven," he introduced. He should at least be known by his name instead of just being 'the reindeer'.
"Oh! Hans the Fool!" Olaf greeted, now completely sidetracked from the question he'd asked earlier. "Are you having a night out, as well?" Hans raised an eyebrow at Kristoff, more amused than perplexed, though there was plenty of that.
"I am, little prince. Getting to know the Captain. It appears I'll be helping the Royal Guard with my sword. I'm a little more than a fool, I must admit. Shall we have the remains of a night out together? Telling stories and whatnot?" Hans' tone was always lighter and sweeter with Olaf, as anyone might be while working with children. Especially a fool.
Olaf's face brightened with glee at the notion of having Hans join them.
"Yes! Let's do that!" Olaf exclaimed with excitement. He really did appreciate Hans' company, no offense to Kristoff and Sven, but having someone else that shared his enthusiasm, overjoyed Olaf.
"If that's what you wish to do."
"Good Evening," saluted the Captain, as he approached the group. "I see Westergaard's already inviting himself to join your party," he chuckled, already accustomed to his antics. "Is it alright to leave him in your hands?" He attentively asked Kristoff, almost as if he was watching over a puppy or a small child, instead of a grown man, a slightly drunken man, sure, but still. The Captain thought he should ask, Hans felt like he was his responsibility and he didn't impose anyone with that duty without their consent.
"Not going to join us, Captain? Just handing over Gaoler duty?" Hans joked dryly. He honestly meant it as a joke, but perhaps it did speak to his self-image.
"We'll be fine, Captain. In spite of Anna's wariness, I'm pretty sure I can handle this driftwood log, and if he gives me trouble, I can always pitch him back out to sea." Kristoff joked, nudging Hans with his foot.
"Oho, the Reindeer Lord has jokes. One of us is the Queen's fool, be careful who you challenge." Hans joked in return. He truly wore that stupid made-up title with pride. But then, Kristoff had his own made-up title, perhaps it was only fair.
"Hate to be an old fogey, but I'm afraid I've had enough excitement for one night, all I want to do now is get as much rest as I can to try to avoid having a headache in the morning," he said as he yawned. "I think my ears are still ringing from all that singing," the Captain twisted his pinky in his ear as if trying to dislodge something. "Keeping up with you isn't easy, you've completely drained me, boy. I need to hand over the reins and have someone else keep a watchful eye on you, just because of your capriciousness, and for your own well-being. Wouldn't want to find you floating in the fountain in the morning. I lost track of everything that happened tonight at the tavern, but if I recall correctly, I'm sure at one point you suggested doing a balancing act on a chair."
"Oh, I've seen him do that once," Olaf interposed.
"Of course, you've done it before, why am I not surprised?" The captain said with a disapproving head shake as he brought a hand up to his face. He let out a sigh. "Anyway, thank you for keeping tabs on him Lord Kristoff," he gave a nod in appreciation. "Fair warning though, his mood seems to be as fickle as the sea."
Hans laughed. "You flatter me, captain. And you need more practice at drinking if you plan to keep up with me. I was still sober at that suggestion." Hans grinned wryly. "And at the singing. I just like singing." He hummed. "Sleep, old man. See you in the morning, we'll try to keep tomorrow quiet then, hm?" Hans thumped the Captain on the shoulder, as good mates do.
"What else would we expect? Fickle moods seem to be all we know of him for sure." Kristoff pointed out. But he smiled and shook his head a little. "Tag me in next time, we'll see how I do at holding my drinks against a sea captain."
"I'd say bragging about your sobriety when acting like you were isn't something you should be proud of boy, but you already dub yourself a fool," he chuckled. "Indeed. Next time you're welcome to put him in his place," the Captain affirmed with a nod. "Goodnight gentleman, hope you enjoy the rest of your night-- and you don't cause too much trouble," he nudged Hans back.
"I'm off to bed. I bid you all adieu." After one more reverence, the Captain took his leave.
"Can I go to the drinking party next time too?" Olaf childishly asked. He wasn't aware of the alcohol involved, instead he was envisioning some sort of manly tea party. "It sounds like fun!"
Hans laughed a little. "Maybe when you're much older, little prince." He teased. "The men say things we oughtn't say around younger folks, and act more like fools than we ever should." He observed. "But what the captain doesn't know is, a fool is wiser than he seems, and a wise man more foolish than wise men ever think. The wisest man is the one who takes himself for a fool, even around fools." Hans smiled a little, playing wordplay games. He always liked puns and wordplay.
"This is like that riddle, 'the wisest man is he who understands that he understands nothing'." Kristoff hummed. "Hans likes to say silly things, and worse, sometimes I imagine he says things that get him into trouble." Kristoff observed.
"Aye, and out of it. More often out than in, but when in, then in big." He observed. It was a statement one really had to track to understand, but that seemed like the theme. Drunken philosophy night with the strangest assortment of characters around. "So, what are we all wandering about for?" Hans hummed.
"The ladies are having a girls’ night, so I was on patrol to keep an eye out that you weren't up to trouble." Kristoff answered honestly.
"What a good guard you are. You've certainly done that job." Hans hummed.
"Out drinking with the Captain of the Guard? I bet that was a wild night."
"Cards, drinks, and encouraging positive feelings toward myself. It's so easy, as if my last visit to Arendelle never happened. Anna is thus far the most sensible person I've seen." Hans admitted, a bit more soberly.
"You're not upset?"
"Oh, deeply. But that's sort of the point, isn't it." Hans didn't seem too bothered, just logical.
"Aw," Olaf groaned when he was denied his request to partake in the future fun only because he was deemed 'too young'. People kept telling him, 'when you're older Olaf', but when was that going to happen? He was a walking talking snowman, not an actual child though he was very much one in essence. Olaf tried to follow Hans and Kristoff's conversation, but got a bit lost in their philosophical talk. Hans smiled a little at Olaf. "Just as well, I don't think it would appeal as much to you, yet. Not really. In much the same way that politics only makes sense and isn't boring when you get older, it likely wouldn't be quite the same for you as for us." He assured him. He almost instinctively patted Olaf's head, perhaps forgetting that he was made of ice and snow.
"You two seem chummy." Kristoff remarked, amused.
"Of course. He's kept me company while I've been unable to walk around and chatter quite so much. I don't talk very much at home, it's good to be here and be able to say the things I think. Oh, Olaf, did you ever figure out what the meaning of my story was, that day of the raid? I suppose I never finished it. Predictable, but the best stories are the ones that take what you know and turn it upside-down. Like an hourglass, it renews the story." He may not have been drunk, but Hans certainly wasn't sober either. He was prone enough to meander (both in words and walk) while sober, and drinking only exacerbated it as he wandered off toward grass, just to walk on something more natural than cobble. Hans loved adventure, even if it was only venturing off the cobblestones.
Olaf laughed a little at being patted on the head. "Hmm...the meaning of the story?" he pondered. "I think it means that even the Mirror Prince had his own side to the story," answered the little snowman. It was obvious even to him what story Hans had been trying to tell him that day. "You know, I have my own retelling of that story too and so does Sven, don't you Sven?"
"Oh, I would wager you do." Hans agreed, sounding intrigued. "So you've figured out that I'm not just Hans the Fool, then?" He hummed, with a little smile. "I keep picking up titles these days, sooner or later I won't know what to do with them all. I wonder if they can be recycled. Someone else can be a prince, I'll keep Fool and Admiral and let the others slide." He joked, all lighthearted for the moment-- perhaps purely because Olaf was there.
"Do pray tell, tell your version of the story? You can be quite a storyteller all your own." Hans remarked, his tone light and sweet. Kristoff wondered if that was what he was always like with children-- as Hans seemed under the firm delusion that Olaf was more of a strange child than a 'snowman given life through strange ice magic'. Kristoff supposed that was the better way to view things. Would he be like that with his own children? If Hans ever chose to have any, anyway. That would be its own pot of problems when they got there. Kristoff was glad that wasn't his problem-- but lately he had been thinking a lot more about families and family life. One could hardly blame him for thinking about the way Hans thought. Especially since he seemed to show a different face for every combination of company he might keep. Sometimes it seemed to change by the moment.
"Oh, yeah, everybody wouldn't be making such a fuss about you if you were just a fool, but I do prefer Hans the Fool," he giggled. The young snowman's face lit up at the invitation to share his account of the day he was created and the events that followed.
"Okay, be prepared, I'm going to start from the beginning, well, my beginning since I wasn't there for the rest of it. This story starts up on the North Mountain where Elsa created me using her magic..." Olaf was very thorough in the retelling of his story. He told Hans how Anna, Kristoff and Sven freaked out similarly (or even more so) than he did when they first met him as well. He went into detail about everything (even the unimportant stuff) from how he got his nose, his love for warm hugs, mistaking Kristoff for Sven and of course his love for summer. Olaf continued his explanation about how he led his new friends up the North Mountain to find Elsa to bring back summer. Of course he couldn't gloss over he got impaled. And trivial facts like how he waited for exactly one minute before he joined Anna to talk to Elsa at the Ice Palace. How Elsa herself was also a bit shocked that she'd brought him to life. He described the sisters' interaction after Elsa stuck Anna and how they got kicked out by Marshmallow, only to have Anna aggravate him shortly after. He couldn't leave out how he bravely volunteered to distract and hold Marshmallow back to no avail and that they all ultimately fell off the cliff. Olaf didn't skip out on any of the awkwardness. He went on to talk about how they all ventured to Kristoff's 'Love Experts', and how he thought Kristoff was totally crazy talking to rocks he called his family until they revealed themselves to be trolls. Also that he figured out his name was Kristoff not Sven. Olaf relayed the full extent of their visit with the trolls, attempted wedding and all and how they went to go find Hans (for a kiss) after they were told that 'only true love thaw a frozen heart'.
He explained how he ended up getting separated from the group and that he was the one that had found Anna locked up after Hans abandoned her. Olaf recounted how he almost melted trying to warm Anna up. He was quite proud of his 'Love Expert' advice that made Anna realize that Kristoff really cared for her. Then it was on to how the two of them managed to escape a freezing castle through a window and make it to the fjord. Olaf had gotten blown away by the storm and so the next thing he witnessed was Elsa embracing a frozen Anna on the fjord. Olaf expressed how devastating it was to think they lost Anna forever, but was happy when he was first to notice that Anna had in fact been saved, her frozen heart thawed by an act of true love different than the one they all had envisioned and that none of them had expected. He conveyed how delighted he was at the return of the summer once Elsa was able to control her powers, even though the sun had promptly begun to melt him, but thankfully Elsa kept him from melting. That was practically the end of his story about the events he'd observed, because after that he had been too distracted and overjoyed, by his own personal flurry that allowed him to enjoy summer, to pay attention to everything else that was going around him, like Hans getting punched in the face by Anna. The little snowman was very animated with his explanation, transforming himself and acting out the parts as he went along, he was a very theatrical storyteller even more so than Hans.
"...and that's the story of how I spent my first day of life."
Hans laughed through much of it, amused by Olaf's transformations and animated behavior, and all of his excitement.
"You lived quite an adventurous life, and all in one day! Many people would be jealous, and I would venture to say you have lived the most adventurous life of any snowman. I wonder if Marshmallow would say the same? I very much remember Marshmallow, nearly killed me on the ice bridge, but what an adventure that was!" Hans hummed. He seemed quite fond of Olaf, and only more so with time.
"You remind me of someone, somehow, but I'm not quite sure..."
"Yourself." Kristoff proposed.
"How, exactly? We're not exactly alike." Hans pointed out.
"You both laugh in the face of death, love jokes and stories, change to adapt to your environment, and everyone underestimates what you're thinking." Kristoff gestured to both of them.
"...Well perhaps, but there's no need to insult him." Hans scoffed, tone a little flatter.
"Oh shut up, I bet he's what you would have been like if you were raised in a happy family, without whatever screwed you up." Kristoff wouldn't let Hans deflect this one. And granted, perhaps Hans would have been a little annoying. Most children were. Olaf truly was just a child.
"Hm. That may be so, but for once I don't find much merit in exploring hypotheticals. I can't imagine that alternative history. I'll have to just enjoy the one we're in, instead." His tone was perhaps a little less pleasant. If anything, he seemed a little more protective of Olaf, after that. He didn't want anyone to think they were like him. He was one of the disappointments, a prince turned treasoner and fool. He was not an example to follow.
"Ah, yes, an adventure of a lifetime, those were the days. My, how time flies." Olaf said in an almost reminiscent tone. "I don't know if Marshmallow would say the same, he's not much of a talker. But what I can say for him is that sure mellowed out since the last time," Olaf laughed at his own joke.
"You both love wordplay..." Kristoff added, amused, as Hans laughed at Olaf's joke. Hans was probably the only one who would laugh at that joke.
"Your lifetime is only just beginning! You also lived through the assault on the castle, remember, there's plenty of adventuring time left." Hans assured, then he brightened up more. "Ah! I'm out of the castle, I can visit my horse in the stables! Would you all mind if we went? I haven't seen him in... probably a month? I'm not sure how long, now. Two?" He turned to go that way without waiting. Whether Kristoff wanted him to go or not, Hans wanted to see his horse. Kristoff shrugged and moved to follow. He was planning to end the night there anyway, and may as well let the man see his buddy.
"Oh! You have a horse? Is it a boy or a girl? What's it's name? Do you talk to them like Kristoff does to Sven," Olaf asked an abundant amount of questions as they headed back towards the stables.
Hans chuckled. "It's a boy, his name is Sitron. I talk to him, but he doesn't talk back." Hans assured with a little laugh. When he made it there, he jogged toward the horse, ignoring the pain in his side. Sitron seemed happy to see him, too, making happy sounds and tossing his mane. Hans threw his arms around his horse's neck and petted him. He was deeply fond of his horse, and they clearly missed each-other. Once again, it was easy to forget he was a prince, once. Now he was a man who had little but a mixed reputation, and a horse. A horse he was very glad to see again.
"Hello you, I'll have to go riding again soon, they haven't been giving you enough exercise, hm?" He cooed to the horse, petting its nose. "I never thought I was going to see you again." While he kept his tone relatively neutral, it was just because there were people around. He had deeply missed his horse. He had few other friends.
Sitron was indeed ecstatic to see Hans again, it had been far too long that they were about. He gently trotted with excitement at the notion of being ridden again. His tail was raised in excitement and his ears were facing forward in full attention. Of course he had to sniff and nuzzle Hans with his nose. There was no doubt Fjord Horse had deeply missed his friend as well.
"Oh, so that's Sitron, handsome horse, I was wondering where he'd come from, looks like he really missed you," smiled the little snowman. "Maybe you should groom him," he suggested, seeing that Kristoff had brushed Sven to start off the night and the reindeer seemed to enjoy it, so. "I know Sven likes it a lot when Kristoff does that to him."
"You know, I was thinking that myself." Hans agreed, immediately rolling up his sleeves and looking for the supplies to groom. Kristoff handed some over so Hans wouldn't have to think about it, and Hans happily took to tending to the horse as if he did that all the time. Maybe he had been a prince, but he had been a prince who wanted to be useful. "Ah, the lemon's turning into a lemon cake. You need to exercise." Hans teased, patting his horse's side to indicate that the horse was getting a little chubby. Still, he was glad his horse was being overfed, rather than underfed. He was the horse of a treasonist, after all. "Are they taking good care of you? You look well-groomed at least. No parade horse, but there's no neglect in Her Majesty's stables." Hans observed, more muttering at the horse than really talking to him as he groomed.
Sitron whinnied to show he was content. He was being treated well of course but he sure did miss going out for rides instead of being cooped up in his stall most the day.
"Did you name him yourself or was he named that when you got him?" Wondered the curious snowman. "He doesn't look like a sour horse to me," he commented since he didn't understand why he was named after a lemon.
Hans chuckled. "I did, I was a boy and boys do silly things. He's got a slightly yellow-y tint and it reminded me of lemon meringue, especially with his mane." He hummed. "Certainly not a sourpuss, Sitron has been my friend for years. Sometimes the only one I felt like I could talk to, since he can't talk about whatever I tell him. Secrets are a resource in my homeland, they're hard to keep and valuable for it. No matter how mild, it seems it can be a danger. So if I only told my horse, I never had to fear it getting to anyone else. And what does a horse care what I have to say? He's a horse. He cares that I feed him, groom him, ride him, and make sure his shoes are on right." Of course, the stable hands handled the shoes in Arendelle. Not that he would usually shoe a horse, but he liked to at least make sure they were taken care of.
"Your homeland sounds like an awful place if you can't talk to anyone but your horse," remarked Olaf. "No offense to you lemon meringue, I'm sure you're a great listener."
"It is." Hans assured, nonchalantly. "Our family and staff have a lot of petty squabbles and teasing that tends to go... overboard. I'm the youngest, I get a lot more trouble than the rest. That's why I left for anywhere else. The sea is a great big 'anywhere else' to me. When I couldn't sail, I rode. As far as possible, somewhere as wild as possible. Often to a beach or a shore, sometimes to explore some forest. A horse makes for a fine friend, but it does lead to much less conversation." Hans admitted, focusing on his grooming. Sitron didn't seem offended, it was the truth.
"You and Kristoff are a lot alike when it comes to finding fine friends in animals, yet Sven does seem to converse more than Sitron. But then again Kristoff isn't much of a conversationalist when it comes to people, I've heard him sing that he thinks 'reindeer are better than people' when playing his lute," mentioned the childish snowman. "I think it's because he was raised by rock trolls," he tried whispering the last part.
"Aye, you could say that." Kristoff admitted, amused as he folded his arms and looked down at Olaf with a raised eyebrow.
 Hans laughed a little.
"Maybe he's not wrong. A reindeer never committed a coup." He pointed out lightly. "Everything's a matter of perspective, I think. Perhaps the rock trolls have a better perspective." He paused a bit. "Did I know about the rock trolls? I think I didn't. That's weird. But not the weirdest thing I've seen, I hope one day to meet them, then. If only to say I've done it." He hummed a little bit at that. He liked experiences for the sake of them. Who needed reasons to see or do something new?
"You should definitely meet them, the rock trolls are fun, very nice, wise and they really like telling embarrassing stories about Kristoff," Olaf said, completely ignoring the look Kristoff gave him.
"Maybe they'll do the fixer upper thing with you and Elsa, it looked like a lot of fun," he said, not really aware that it had resulted in the trolls attempting to wed Kristoff and Anna last time or was he? It was hard to tell will Olaf sometimes.
Hans looked curious, and chuckled a little.
"Afraid I'm not a big fan of embarrassing stories from family." He admitted. "Too familiar with that bitter pill, myself. I'm not sure I know what you're talking about, but, it's probably for the best if we don't. I'm the Queen's fool, but I won't flatter myself to think we'll be spending much time together." He waved the thought aside, with a horse brush in-hand. Kristoff gave Olaf a curious look, wondering if Olaf was thinking the same thing he was about that. Olaf could be dim sometimes, but he -like Anna- had a habit of hitting upon the important things without knowing it.
For the first time in forever Olaf was uncharacteristically taciturn.
"Oh," he voiced in a slightly dispirited tone. He looked up at Kristoff a bit bemused.
Kristoff held the silence for a moment, a slow smirk showing up, identical to the one he wore when he wanted to tell Olaf all about how snow melts in the heat, but Anna stopped him.
"Flatter yourself, idiot." Kristoff shifted over to swat Hans playfully on the back of the head. Hans ducked, perhaps a little more than he needed to, receiving some small amount of the swat anyway.
"Excuse me?" He seemed uncertain whether he should be offended, or amused, but he looked a little more defensive either way.
"You think she visits just to make sure your wounds don't rot? That's what doctors are for. Anna may not like you, but Elsa does, at least as a friend. You might hate yourself, but you're the only one. And maybe Anna, but she'll forgive in time, if I know her at all. I won't tell you to get over it, but at least get the picture; you're staying in the castle, you're going to see the Queen plenty. Still, probably best you don't see my folks and her at the same time, they're likely to marry you both." Kristoff joked dryly.
Hans laughed, a somewhat nervous laugh. But he didn't know how to respond, so he focused on brushing Sitron, instead.
"Let's talk about something else." He was quick to press the conversation away. Even if it was awkward, he would sooner hold an awkward silence than think about what Anna thought of him, or acknowledge that the Queen might like him. Somehow, both were painful.
Maybe the awkwardness now was karma for what happened earlier at the tavern. Kristoff had brought a wide smile back to the young snowman's face.
"You sure are a strange fellow," Olaf commented. Countless people would love to be in Elsa's good graces (especially since she still wasn't the most open person), but Hans seemed to think it was a bad thing, maybe he thought he didn't deserve that kind of attention, Olaf didn't quite understand and thought the former Prince was being silly, the title of Fool suit him quite well. He wasn't going to press him any further he saw Hans didn't seem too happy about the topic and Olaf preferred smiles to scowls. Of course Olaf couldn't bear the silence for too long, so he tried breaking it. He was an expert on changing the subject and going on random tangents. He didn't wish for Hans to stay silent, it just didn't feel right to him.
"Hey, Sven," he began "What do you call a reindeer with no eyes?" Olaf paused for a moment and Sven grunted. "What? You really don't know? I was only asking you cause you're a reindeer and I have no eye deer." He resorted to telling jokes, it was second nature to him. He’d much rather hear laughter than nothing at all.
Hans laughed quite suddenly at that joke, and rested his free hand on his face while he recovered from that one.
"Oh! That was a genuinely good one! it has layers." He did so love wordplay and puns.
"Honestly, he has snow idea how to tell a good joke." Kristoff proposed. He liked Olaf's tactic. It worked a lot better.
"Snow thanks, Ice see what you're doing here." Hans retorted. They were probably going to be doing that a while.
And that they did. Once you start wordplay especially with people that are willing to continue it's a bit hard to stop. There were lots of snow and ice puns, of course, those were the easiest to make, as well as horse and reindeer ones, but the best kind of wordplay was undeniably the one that used their names.
"I gotta Hans it to you, Sitron is looking more Hansome now that you brushed him," Olaf declared with a giggle. --
The puns continued for a long while, certainly long enough for Hans to finish tending to his horse and spending time with it. When it was finally time to leave, he gave his horse a fond farewell with reassurances that he would be back. Kristoff escorted him back to his room, just feeling as if that was now his duty, since the Captain of the Guard was gone-- and also he was the most sober one there (both of mind and body).
By the time Elsa would have come to check on Hans, much later in the evening than she probably intended (because Girl Talk and catching up was simply too riveting), Hans had already decided to sleep, with an arm over his eyes and a leg hanging off the bed. Some people when they slept looked as if they had been laid to rest. Hans looked as if he had been thrown to rest, and he seemed perfectly comfortable with that fact. His hair was mussed and his collar rumpled, but only from the day's activity. And of course, he smelled a bit like rum and horse. It was sometimes easy to forget that he was an admiral. But not at that moment.

Bless Me With Your OTP
Rules: answer as many of the following questions as you want, and add art/screenshots to show off your OTP!
Tagged by @starsandskies, tagging @haledamage, @storyknitter and @allisondraste, if you wanna ;) Also anyone else who wants to do this; I didn’t wanna go overboard with specific tags.
Gotta do Tragen/Jaesa, because I’m having feels again.
Tumblr media
(fab art by @the-upper-shelf)
Do they fight often? If so, what is their dynamic like?
Not really. They’re of the same mind on a lot of things, so really the only thing they fight over is when one is planning to do something self-sacrificing and dangerous and the other is worrying about them.
Who is the most skeptical of the two?
Tragen, only because he spent his teens growing up through the Sith Academy on Ziost and saw the very darkest side of sentient beings’ nature. Not to say everything was roses for Jaesa as a handmaiden(especially on Alderaan, OY), but even the shrewdest of political maneuverings can’t really match the savagery of a Sith who wants something. Considering his experiences, he’s still surprisingly optimistic, but he’s also much quicker to write a person off as a lost cause than she is. He wants to reform the Empire, but first of all realizes that’s probably just a pipe dream; they’re fighting an uphill battle against millennia of tradition, and second figures the way to effect change is through a new generation of more light-leaning Sith, not “redeeming” the ones already in power.
Who would be most likely to suggest a night of dancing?
Both of them would love to dance, and they would be amazing at it. Tragen would be the more likely to suggest they do it, though, simply because he’s the bolder personality of the two. Jaesa’s more quiet/shy, and would happily accept if he offered, but would be too hesitant to suggest it herself and now I want art of them dressed to the nines and slow dancing ohno
What would they do if the other was injured in battle?
If Tragen gets hurt, Jaesa becomes laser focused on getting him out of danger so she can heal him. Even if the threat is still out there, as long as she can get him away from if, that’s good enough for the short term. They can deal with it later, it’s more important to make sure he’s safe.
If Jaesa gets hurt, Tragen’s gonna throw himself even more fully into whatever fight they were waging so he can kill anything that’s a threat. He’s not good at anything healing related at all, so the only way he’s gonna be able to even attempt to help her himself is if there’s no threats to worry about nearby. He’s still more likely to try and get her to a medic than do anything himself for fear of making things worse. .
How do their fighting styles complement each other?
They’re both very skilled... saberists(?), though they focused on different weapons: Jaesa has a doubleblade and Tragen dual wields. The different techniques they’ve each learned work very well for watching each others’ backs. Jaesa’s also fairly skilled with Force healing, which is good bc Tragen is very much a frontline defender brand fighter; he wades in and tries to keep the enemies’ attention on him so they’re not hurting other people. He’s more focused on melee combat than using the Force, she’s very attuned to the Force but still relatively skilled at melee combat. Add in their Force Bond and the two of them almost literally move as one when fighting. They can pretty much read each other’s mind/emotions, so always know exactly where to be.
Do they want children? Does it frighten them? How many do they want?
It’s not something they’ve talked about yet.  (can you imagine how gorgeous their kids would be? Just A+ gene pool right there)  Them as a couple is a fairly recent development that kinda caught both of them off-guard, so they’re still working through all of the Stuff(TM) that comes with it. HOWEVER. Neither of them would be opposed to kids, for sure. Tragen might’ve been more reluctant when he was Wrath, just because of the danger and any kids being one more things that could be used to hurt him if his true... uh, beliefs were discovered(it was real fun playing a LG paladin Sith lemme tell ya xD). But now that he has some level of autonomy as Alliance commander, he’d be very open to the idea. He loves Jaesa so much, the idea of having a family with her would delight him.
Jaesa would probably likewise love to have a family with him. She’d be a little more hesitant just due to the basic state of the galaxy. Even knowing things will never completely calm down, it’s nerve-wracking to think about bringing a child into the mess that is the current state of affairs. But it really isn’t ever going to be “safe” and she’s grown more comfortable with being bold and taking risks for the things she wants, and this would be something she wants.
Both of them would be ferociously protective parents; RIP to anything that tried to hurt their kid(s).
What happened when they took them home to their families? If their families aren’t in the picture anymore, how do they feel about it?
Well, fun fact, the very first time Tragen took Jaesa with him to visit his family was before they were a couple. Before the Wild Space Expedition, even, not long after he was made Emperor’s Wrath. His parents and sister all like Jaesa immensely, and his mother can TELL there’s Something there with this girl, but she doesn’t say anything bc they need to figure things out on their own. Whenever he gets around to telling them about the change in relationship status from friends and master/apprentice to lovers, he’s gonna get a round of “Saw that coming” and “Took long enough”s
Technically, so far, the only time Tragen’s met Jaesa’s parents is during the SW quest arc on Alderaan. He was polite, and merciful, and told them he only wanted to talk to their daughter, he meant her no harm. They took some convincing, their Jedi guardian even more so, but he did talk them into cooperating before instructing them to go to Dromund Kaas. When he found out Baras was poking around them, he kept an eye on the situation, but thankfully things with Baras came to a head before that particular problem got too dicey.  He’s currently hoping things resolve enough with the Alliance/Republic/Empire that he and Jaesa can track them down again, make sure they’re safe, and that they’re okay with their daughter dating an ex-Sith. (Jaesa’s an adult who can make her own decisions, so it’s not really asking permission; more he doesn’t want to be a point of contention between her and her parents after they’ve been apart for so long)
How does each person show affection towards the other?
There’s a lot of affectionate touching, and I don’t just mean hugs and kissing, though there are plenty of those.
Tumblr media
Jaesa tends to brush her fingers against his arm whenever she walks past him, lean her head on his shoulder whenever they’re sitting/standing next to each other, that sort of thing. Tragen likes to slide an arm around her waist or hold her hand. Both of them have a history of being forced to repress feelings for various reasons, and finally being in a position where they don’t have to, where they can say I love you and kiss each other whenever they feel like it and be touchy-feely affectionate... why would they pass up any chance to take advantage of that?
On top of the physical affection, they’re both big fans of encouraging and reassuring each other. They’ve been doing that since well before they fell in love, so it’s only natural it gets folded into their romantic relationship as well.
Who cries the most? Who is better at comforting?
Jaesa for both. She’s so very tender-hearted, and one good thing about being trained as a Jedi rather than a Sith, compassion’s not seen as a weakness. So while Tragen’s super accustomed to burying the vast majority of his emotional vulnerability(other acolytes would’ve torn him apart, forget about full Sith after his summoning to Korriban), she’s more willing to show it. When Tragen’s feeling sad etc he tends to just go sit somewhere alone(preferably with a good view of the stars) and work through his feelings inside his own head.
BUT since Jaesa’s such an empathetic person, she’s really good at picking up on the more subtle signs he’s feeling down and their Force Bond only makes it easier. So she usually gives him a little while to have some privacy, then offers to help with comfort or company or whatever he needs if he wants her to. (He always wants her to. But she always makes it his call, even if she thinks she knows the answer)
Who is the bigger flirt?
Neither of them are all that flirty, actually. The two of them are more earnest declarations of love and support than attempts at seduction. (Neither of them is particularly good at it, either. Jaesa’s tried being coy a time or two, and Tragen will occasionally pitch his voice lower bc apparently that’s “sexy”, but since they both realized independently they were in love with each other and confessions were made so fast in relation to being reunited, any flirting is more joking/playful “I’m so lucky and glad I have you” teasing than anything else. They’re dorks. Vette rolls her eyes at them even as she grins.)

Lockdown (Part 3)
Part 1 Part 2 Archive Of Our Own
Warnings: mentions of war, panic attack, arguing, quarantine, medical stuff
————————
Four hours after quarantine.
————————
VIRGE (sent 10:22 PM):
Appendicitis? Are you sure?
ME (sent 10:22 PM):
all the tests confirm it. we're planning on removing it soon.
VIRGE (sent 10:23 PM):
Do you have enough supplies for a safe removal? Blood, the right medication?
ME (sent 10:25 PM):
the cdc is gonna get some more blood (we're a bit low with what we can access), laparoscopy equipment, and everything else we can think of that we don't have through the quarantine, but it might take a while. we only just got dinner.
VIRGE (sent 10:25 PM):
What did you get?
ME (sent 10:26 PM):
turkey sandwiches or pbjs, oranges, chips, and water. a few special dishes for a muslim couple and someone with a nut allergy.
VIRGE (sent 10:26 PM):
Are you in quarantine or at summer camp?
ME (sent 10:26 PM):
XD how's the drive?
VIRGE (sent 10:27 PM):
Quiet so far. Traffic's cleared out. Emile's playing the Spiderverse soundtrack. It's actually pretty good. Everyone ok down there?
Patton sent Virgil a thumbs-up emoji, followed by a smiling cat face. He sat on an unused bed sitting near the isolated observation room. His head leaned against the window looking into the room. His legs dangled off the bed, softly kicking back and forth. A brown paper bag laid beside him, its contents spilling onto the covers. Patton stuck his hands into the small chip bag and stuffed a handful of chips into his mouth.
"Is our knight in dark armor doing well?" Roman asked through a mouthful of turkey. He sat criss-cross on the floor across from Patton. His lunch sat in his lap. Nate sat beside him, staring at the ED behind his sunglasses. One hand tugged at his long hair while the other peeled his orange. Logan had pulled up a chair from his desk and ate using the bed as a table. Most of the ED's patients and visitors had tried to get some sleep, but everyone woke up for a chance at a meal. The Ceballos twins pelted each other with orange peels. The Yakimovs and McCallums, released from their makeshift cell, crowded around their daughters.
"They're on their way," Patton reported, setting down his phone.
"Patton, Roman, after you finish eating, perhaps you should find a place to sleep," Logan suggested. He spun the cap off his water and took a long drink. "I can awaken you when the situation develops." Patton hid a grin with another mouthful of chips. Logan had finally let go of the professional titles he was so strict about using at the hospital. It probably wouldn't last long, but Patton would enjoy it for however long it did.
"And miss the drama?" Roman scoffed, juggling his orange. "I would rather volunteer as tribute in the Hunger Games."
"I need to keep an eye on Jessie," Patton sighed. "If her appendix gets any worse, we'll need to speed up her surgery."
"There's something I don't get," Roman huffed. "If the CDC is making sure you've got what you need for the surgery, what's the big concern?"
"A surgery is never a guarantee, Roman," Logan sighed, fixing his glasses with his classic Teacher face. "We are slicing open a person's body and putting our hands around their organs. When doctors discuss surgical risks with their patients, they discuss every detail, no matter how unlikely. We can prepare as much as we can, but without a proper operating room, there's the chance that one of those risks will occur and we will lack the proper tools. We are not a trauma center, and many of the doctors and nurses in the quarantine have not done surgeries like this in a long time. Hospitals don't operate like medical dramas. We are not all skilled in every aspect of medical care."
"I bet this isn't how you thought Virgil's birthday planning would go," Nate chuckled, tossing an orange slice into his mouth.
"Virgil!" Patton gasped. Nate choked on his orange, coughing and hitting his chest. "Oh my goodness! How did I forget about his birthday? He's going to spend his birthday on the road!”
"Perhaps we can think of something to do here for him," Roman mused, rubbing his chin.
"Wouldn't a quick 'Happy Birthday' text suffice?" Logan asked.
"It won't, and you know it," Patton huffed, smiling.
"We can do a grand show!" Roman declared, holding his half-eaten sandwich high like a sword. "Surely even he would smile at a fun music video!"
"Perhaps something more grounded," Logan sighed, rubbing his shoulder.
"A long drive is a great way to spend a birthday," Nate said, having finished choking. "Just you, some music, and the open road. And your GPS blaring directions in your ear every time you stop at a gas station.”
"We just gotta think- what would Virgil like?" Patton hummed.
"Some peace and quiet?" Logan muttered. He took a drink from his water bottle. Something slammed against the window behind Patton. Patton and Logan jumped, water spilling onto Logan. Ms. Lakin looked through the window, both hands on the glass. Dots of blood sprinkled the rash on her arms.
"Hello, uh," Ms. Lakin stammered, voice muffled behind the glass. "I know you told me there was a call button or something but I don't know where it is, I was sleeping, and I woke up and there was blood on my arms and my chest hurts, I might be having a heart attack? I think it's a heart attack, it sounds like what my uncle told me, but I'm freaking out, and-" Ms. Lakin leaned her head against the glass. Her quick breaths fogged up the glass.
"Ms. Lakin, try to get back to your bed," Logan declared, bolting up. "We'll be right in. Dr. Foster, Mr. Christopoulos, come with me."
"Right!" Patton stammered, hopping off the stretcher. Nate pushed himself up and the trio hurried into the decontamination chamber. Patton scrambled into the biohazard suit, his cardigan making odd lumps in the suit. His sticky hands wouldn't slip into the gloves. The rubber kept rubbing red patches into his hands. Logan, suit already on, grabbed Patton's hands. He held Patton by the wrist and slipped the gloves on with one swift motion. Patton smiled up at his husband. He stuffed his feet into his boots and entered Ms. Lakin's room with Logan and Nate.
She was still leaning against the window, panting like a wild beast. Small blood smears coated her arms. Her hands ran up and down her body, rubbing the blood away. She'd dragged her monitors across the room, which were now beeping wildly as her heart rate went up. Her IVs pulls against her wrists. Crazed eyes looked up at the newcomers.
"Hello," Ms. Lakin panted. "I- I'm sorry." Her hands pulled on the collar of her hospital gown, revealing the blood sprinkled rash on her chest.
"Nate, help her to the bed," Patton said, taking a step towards Ms. Lakin.
"No!" Ms. Lakin gasped, backing away. She held a blood-stained palm out. "Don't, don't come near me."
"Ok," Patton whispered. He held his hands over his head. "Ok. We'll stay right here." For a moment, Patton wished Virgil and Emile were there. He threw that thought into his mental trashcan.
"What's happening?" Nate asked.
"Ms. Lakin, I believe you are experiencing a panic attack, possibly some paranoia" Logan explained, stepping next to Patton. "They are common symptoms of Pinto's."
"I'm dying, right?" Ms. Lakin stammered. "I- this is just what I expected, this is death."
"Try to breathe with me, Ms. Lakin," Logan said. Patton saw movement in the corner of his eye. Nurses scurried into the decontamination chamber. They would be in soon. "Calming your breathing will help you feel better. Can you sit down?" Ms. Lakin whimpered, leaning back against the window. "Breathe in for four seconds. One, two..." Ms. Lakin gasped, chest lifting as Logan counted. "Three, four. Now hold the breath for seven seconds. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven." As soon as Logan stopped counting, Ms. Lakin let out a long, shaky breath.
"Let's go back to bed," Patton said softly. "You can sleep."
"I looked up Pinto's," Ms. Lakin gasped with a death grip on her gown. "The bleeding, I'm getting worse, I'm going to die."
"You won't die," Patton assured her. He took a careful step towards her, then another. "We're taking care of you. I'm sure some sleep will make you feel better." Patton held out his hand. The death-grip of Ms. Lakin's right hand began to relax. She moved her shaking hand towards Patton. The observation room doors creaked open. A pair of nurses used the only suits left and stepped into the room. Ms. Lakin pulled her hand back.
"No, you need to leave!" Ms. Lakin stammered, shaking her head. "Leave!"
"We're here to help you," Patton said. As soon as he took another step towards Ms. Lakin, Patton knew he had made a mistake. Ms. Lakin's leg shot up and hit... a very uncomfortable spot, to say the least. Patton stumbled back, groaning. Logan's hands steadied him. Nate charged past the couple. Ms. Lakin flailed her hands and Nate grabbed her wrists. He pulled her arms behind her as the monitors went crazy.
"Don't touch me!" Ms. Lakin shouted. Nate dragged her across the room as the two nurses swarmed Ms. Lakin. Nate shoved her onto the bed and with the help of one of the nurses pinned Ms. Lakin to the bed. The other nurse hurried to the cabinets bathed in dull yellow light. They grabbed a small vial and a syringe while Logan joined in the efforts to hold Ms. Lakin down. The patient thrashed against her captors, her eyes resembling a wild animal in a cage. Patton hadn't realized just what an 'endocrinal dysfunction' meant until that moment.
"You're keeping me in here with a corpse!" Ms. Lakin growled. The nurse filled the syringe with what was in the vial and rushed to Ms. Lakin's IV. They pushed the syringe into the IV. Slowly but surely, Ms. Lakin's thrashing calmed down. Her limbs relaxed. She didn't push against Nate and Logan. Her body laid limb on the bed, heart rate going down. Her eyes drifted closed. A collective sigh of relief filled the room.
"Didn't know she was this bad," Nate huffed, stretching his arms overhead.
"If she was asleep, she wouldn't have known when she started bleeding," Logan huffed, crossing his arms. "From there, she moved onto the more emotional stages of the disease."
"You good, Patton?" Nate asked. Patton leaned with his elbows on his knees. He gave the group a thumbs-up and groaned.
————————
As a theatre kid, Roman could never resist the call of musical cast recordings. If he heard the proper notes, he was like a bloodhound- he'd hunt down the source and indulge in melodramatic singing and general narcissism. How could he not? Theatre was basically magic, after all. It could always keep him entertained. So as he listened to Thomas, Joan, and Logan gabber on, he hummed the Waitress soundtrack under his breath. He leaned against the door to the small room where they'd set up Thomas's TV.
"Be honest," Thomas huffed. His face bounced on the TV screen, showing his office in live time. A desk lamp lit up the papers littering the desk's surface and Thomas's droopy face. His eyes were looking particularly Virgil-like that night. "What are Ms. Lakin's recovery chances?"
"Considering Nurse Lawson and Dr. Picani are only about halfway to Atlanta," Logan sighed, fixing his glasses. "The chances are in the lower range of probability. We have everything we need to keep her comfortable and stabilize her mood swings with some accuracy."
"What's the progress on Jessie McCallum's surgery?" Thomas sighed, running his hands through his hair.
"We're still waiting on the CDC to get the stuff through," Joan explained. "She's stable for now. We've started her on ampicillin. Since Patton's stuck down here, he's gonna help with her case."
"Hey, you guys are low on blood, right?" Roman said, raising his hand. "Maybe we can do a blood drive or something with the folks we've got here? Would that help?"
"Good idea," Joan said, looking back at Roman. "Could you handle that?"
"I'm on it," Roman chirped. He gave the group a little salute. "I'll leave the medical junk to the doctors." Roman slipped out of the room, closing the door with his foot. His hands fiddled in the pockets of his letter jacket. He got this. He could do a blood drive. He'd organized plenty of blood drives in normal situations. In fact, Roman promised himself he would be the first person in the ED to volunteer his blood for Jessie (he was O-, after all, and in perfect health, not to brag or anything). Perhaps it was a bit more stressful when he was collecting blood for a person with a face instead of expressionless statistics on a page, but that wouldn't change anything! He finally had something to do!
"Ok, when the doctor started using phrases like 'you'll pass away', what could I say?" a quiet voice sang from somewhere in the ED. "I said Doctor, in plain English, tell me why I was chosen, why me of all men?" Roman would recognize a Falsettos song anywhere! But who was singing it? He was certain it wasn't the Ceballos, even though the sound came from somewhere near their bay. He padded across the ED, checking each bay he passed. Most of the patients were fast asleep. "Doctor, here's the good part, at least death means I'll never be scared about dying again." Roman walked past Jessie's bed. The teen was safely asleep, but her face was squished into a frown. When he moved past her bay, he saw Milena, her bed pulled up so she could sit straight.
"Let's get on with living while we can and not play dumb. Death's gonna-" Milena looked up at Roman. "Crap. Was I singing too loud?"
"You're alright," Roman chuckled, shaking his head. "I heard the call of my people."
"Are you a Falsettos fan?" Milena asked.
"I am an everything fan, hon," Roman scoffed, whisking a hand past his face like he was flipping long hair.
"I'm in the drama club at school," Milena admitted. "If I wasn't so busy with sports, I'd probably audition for the school musical. Then again, I don't think I'll be playing sports for a while, so I might get the chance."
"I say go for it," Roman said. "Musicals are amazing."
"Yeah," Milena muttered, nodding softly. "That song's a bit of a vent song for me right now.”
"I'm not a doctor, but I don't think you're in danger anymore," Roman said. He moved to the edge of Milena's bed and leaned his hands against the plastic railing.
"I know," Milena huffed. "But with my parents this close to murder and Jessie..." Milena crossed her arms. "I just can't believe them. They can't even come see me now. They're probably freaking out about me, though. Parents, huh?"
"Yeah, that's pretty normal," Roman sighed, absentmindedly nodding. His Dad would have flipped if Roman was in a car accident. Then again, he probably wouldn't have cared if it was Rem- "Your family really hates the McCallums."
"That's an understatement," Milena grunted.
"I suppose you've got more of a reason now," Roman muttered.
"Hey, it's not Jessie's fault," Milena snapped. "We just didn't see the car coming." Roman looked up at the teen. He cocked his head a bit.
"You don't hate her?" Roman asked. Milena shifted.
”I tolerate her,” Milena muttered. “But that doesn’t mean it’s fun to have her family fighting mine.”
”You seem to do more than tolerate her,” Roman snorted, glancing at Jessie’s bed. “You looked worried when Jessie puked.”
”Well, who wouldn’t be?” Milena snapped.
”Let’s not wake anyone up, Whizzer Frown,” Roman chuckled.
”A grown man insulting a teenager,” Milena snorted. “Is that a new low for you, or is that how you spend your nights?”
”I just...” Roman searched for the right words, waving a hand around. If his creativity meant anything, it needed to work now. “I know sometimes in life, you become close to someone that you wish you didn’t know, for whatever reason. People don’t approve of you or that person is disliked or they’ve done things to you or others... but when it comes to Jessie, I don’t think you should be ashamed. Your parents may not agree, but with time, there could be a great future before ye!”
”Even after I crashed the car?” Milena snapped. Roman stood straighter, removing his hands from the plastic railing. “Her parents were right. It was my fault. I distracted her. I was crying, she tried to comfort me, and she took the eyes off the road. I don’t think anyone will want us to be friends after that, especially not Jessie.” Milena pushed the bed controls. Her bed unfolded, laying her down flat.
”It-“ Roman said.
”It’s late, I’m tired,” Milena grunted, squeezing her eyes shut. “I don’t even know who you are. Leave me alone.” Roman lingered at the edge of the bed for a moment. Then, he shook his head and padded away. He had a blood drive to organize.

"At the end of the day, all they can Scooby-Dooby-Doo is accept Ms. Lakin's mood swings as they come and keep being patient," Emile sighed. Virgil typed every word into his text to Logan, leaving out the cartoon references. "Patton did a fairly good job, he just spooked her."
"And sent," Virgil muttered, sending the ridiculously long text. He yawned softly, stuffing his phone back into his pocket. He glanced out the window to the dark swamps beyond. "Are you sure about this backroad?”
"You said it yourself, we'll never get through that accident on the highway," Emile sighed. "I've taken this road a few times. It's pretty in the daylight!"
"Uh-huh," Virgil sighed. "You ever get kneed by a patient?"
"I haven't had too many violent patients," Emile admitted.
"Lucky man," Virgil scoffed. "I once had a terrified twelve-year-old chomp down on my wrist. I still got a little scar." Virgil flipped his hood over his head and curled into the space between the car door and the seat. "Wake me up in, like, half an hour, and we can swap spots."
"I've got a playlist of calmer songs I can play," Emile said. "I've got Here Comes a Thought, Everything Stays, A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes..."
"I'd rather you have your upbeat songs than fall asleep to a lullaby and crash the car," Virgil mumbled, closing his eyes. His mind hopped down rabbit holes, traveling along strands of thought he could only brush past. He was vaguely aware of the peppy songs coming from the radio. His hoodie was a warm hug wrapped around his arms. His hand rubbed the stitched purple flannel.
"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday, dear Virgil, happy birthday to you!" Mom's giant, muscular arms wrapped around Virgil in a giant bear hug from behind. Her fingers tickled his chin.
"Mom!" Virgil whined, smiling. He tucked his arms under hers and tried to push her off.
"Hey, it's not every day my kid turns seven!" Mom laughed. Her hands ruffled his messy brown hair. Virgil smoothed it back down as Mom crouched next to his chair. "I'm sorry we don't have a cake this year, kiddo."
"Cake isn't healthy, anyway," Virgil said, shrugging. "I don't want either of us to get some disease from bad store cake."
"My little worrywart," Mom chuckled, shaking her head like she always did whenever Virgil amazed her. "I've got some chicken strips, ramen, some soy sauce, and some veggies. So, for your birthday treat, I'm going to make proper ramen!" Mom stood straight, hands on her hips like a superhero.
"Isn't the ramen we have proper ramen?" Virgil asked.
"Ours is going to be like ramen you'd find in Japan," Mom declared. She walked around the kitchen table towards the fridge. "I've got a recipe printed out and everything. Head into the living room, you've got your pick on the TV." Virgil hopped off the chair and scurried across the apartment to the carpeted section. He settled down on the matted brown couch and leaned over the armrest to the DVD shelf. Maybe Mom would let him watch one of her horror movies! She had so many cool movies. Virgil reached into the bottom of the shelf and pulled out The Birds. This was going to be so cool!
Gunshots echoed in the street, muffled beyond the brick walls and murky glass of the apartment. Virgil's gaze drifted out the windows. Mom's rules about gunshots were always to stay inside away from the windows. Did other kids spend their birthdays in gang riddled neighborhoods? Virgil put the movie on the armrest and scurried back into the kitchen. Mom stared at a crumpled piece of paper, muttering under her breath. Her puffy dirty blonde hair cascaded against her dark purple flannel.
"Can I just cut off the breading?" Mom muttered. Virgil scurried into the kitchen, socks slipping on the tiles. He barreled into Mom and hugged her leg. Mom yelped, jumping a little. "Hey there, stormcloud! Is something wrong?"
"I love you, Mom," Virgil muttered. He buried his face into Mom's flannel. It smelled of antiseptic, Green Soap, and ink, the wonderful smells of Mom's tattoo shop. That flannel could stop bullets.
“I lov-“
SCREEEEEEEEEEEECH!!!
Virgil's body slammed against his seatbelt, burning against the fabric. Emile's neck jutted forward, just caught by his own seatbelt. The headlights shone back into the van, lighting up Virgil and Emile's faces.
"WHAT THE HELL, PICANI?" Virgil shouted, rubbing his sore shoulder and trying to breathe. Emile groaned and looked up.
"Gator," Emile groaned. Virgil followed the glare of the headlights. Sitting in the middle of the gravel road was the biggest alligator Virgil had ever seen. Its dark green scales were littered with scars. The light reflected in its giant round eyes. It stared at the van, not blinking. Its tail slowly swished the gravel behind it. Virgil locked his door.
"Crap, crap, crap," Virgil shouted. "Lock the doors!"
"Virgil, don't panic," Emile said, rubbing his neck.
"I'm not a native Florida dude, I'm from Atlanta, I've never seen a wild alligator before!" Virgil snapped. "It can't be happy with us!"
"Well, he's not asleep," Emile muttered. "He was probably just crossing the road before we showed up. He's not that different from the marsh crocodiles I saw in Pakistan. He'll move when he's good and ready."
"Wait," Virgil huffed, shaking the nerves out of his hands. "You've been to Pakistan?"
"I was in the Army, stationed near the Waziristan region for a time," Emile explained. Virgil blinked, eyes wide, dumbfounded.
"You were in the Army," Virgil repeated. "Emile Picani, lover of every cartoon in existence, who most likely owns a dozen onesies, was in the Army? In Pakistan?"
"And Afghanistan," Emile added. "I saw a few marsh crocodiles in my time there. I'm not as well versed in reptile knowledge as the folks in Amphibia, but I know some things." Virgil leaned against his seat, staring at the ceiling.
"How did I not know that?" Virgil muttered. "Are you pulling my leg?"
"It's not something I joke about," Emile admitted, drumming his fingers on the steering wheel. "I usually only talk about it when I believe it can help me connect with my patients. They aren't all cartoon fans, after all."
"I-" Virgil stammered. "Ok, I can't get over this. Can I ask you some questions? Is that a problem?"
"That's alright," Emile sighed. He folded his hands in his lap.
"You won't even hurt a fly," Virgil stammered, flipping his hood down. "Why join the Army?"
"I joined out of high school," Emile explained. "Back then, I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do with my life. All I really liked to do was watch cartoons. There were a lot of army recruiters at my school, so I thought serving would be a good place to start. It's not an uncommon phenomenon. There's been a bit of social psychology devoted to the study of soldiers and why they join the army, and many join not out of patriotic duty, but to find a purpose. Kind of like Hercules in his movie! He didn't train to be a hero to help people, but so he could have a strong identity." Virgil searched his brain for appropriate questions. Roman had organized a Veteran's Day thing for the kids, where they could ask some of the veteran patients currently at the hospital some questions. Virgil tried to remember what questions the kids were allowed to ask.
"What was your job?" he asked, hoping it wasn't offensive.
"Mostly grunt work at first," Emile sighed. "Keeping tents clean, gun maintenance, guard duty. I picked up the language pretty quickly. Eventually, folks looked to me when it came to talking to the locals."
"Not too surprising," Virgil muttered. "You're about as threatening as Kirby."
"Kirby can absorb people! I'd say that's pretty threatening," Emile chuckled. "In a way, I did absorb the ability to speak Pashto from them."
"Are you still in the Army? Like, are you one of those doctors who got the military to pay for their college?"
"Ha! No! I got discharged after a few years. I got plenty of scholarships for my service, though." Emile rested his hands on the wheel. "My squad leader, Sergeant Takeichi, had a gator wrestler for a brother. So, he tried to take on a marsh crocodile. He did a good job, even if he almost lost his hand."
"Were they a good squad? Wow, that sounded like I'm talking about a high school band."
"It was good, all in all. No one minded when I came out. Sergeant Takeichi had nicknames for us all. Mr. Rooster, Track & Field, Earthquake. I was the Animaniac."
"How long did it take for them to find out about your love of cartoons?”
"About ten minutes." Virgil grinned, holding back an eye roll. Emile leaned back and tucked his hands into his lap again. "I'm the only one left, now." Virgil's grin dropped.
"Oh." Virgil picked at the stitching on his hoodie. "War is hell, huh?"
"Actually, we all survived our time in Pakistan. Oh, there he goes." Virgil looked just in time to see the alligator's tail slip into the murky waters surrounding the gravel road. "See? He was just crossing the road."
"Alright, doc, hop out," Virgil huffed, unbuckling. "My turn to drive." Virgil unlocked his door and jumped out of the van. He and Emile crossed in front of the van, long shadows dancing on the gravel. Virgil crawled into the driver's seat. He unplugged Emile's phone and plugged in his own. The phone light burned Virgil's eyes. It was exactly midnight.
"Happy birthday to me," Virgil muttered, adjusting the side mirrors. "Happy birthday to me. Happy birthday, dear Virgil, happy birthday to me." By the time the van was once again cruising down the gravel road, Emile was slouched against the shotgun door with his eyes closed. Without looking, Virgil hit shuffle on his phone.
"Hello darkness, my old friend," the car radio muttered. Virgil sighed and let the road blur in front of him.
————————
The observation room door creaked open. Mr. McCallum slowly stuck his face out, like an animal scanning for predators. Patton stood by the desks, fiddling with the spare doctor's coat he'd found. Logan had suggested it- if Patton was going to care for Jessie, he might as well look the part.
"Folks are sleeping, so don't be loud," Nate muttered, leaning beside the door. Mr. McCallum nodded. Mrs. McCallum held his hand as the two slipped out. Mrs. Yakimov pushed the door open fully and left the room with her husband. Both couples looked around the ED, and their eyes settled on their daughters. Milena was wide awake, pulling her bed up.
"Jessie," Mrs. McCallum gasped. The McCallums raced across the ED, hands held tight. Mr. McCallum cupped his daughter's face. Jessie groaned softly and opened her eyes.
"Dad?" Jessie muttered. Mr. McCallum smiled and leaned his forehead against Jessie's. Mrs. McCallum wrapped her arms around her family.
"Milena, are you feeling ok?" Mrs. Yakimov asked, hurrying to her daughter's side.
"I was wondering when they'd let you out," Milena scoffed. "Hey, Mom."
"We're here, sweetie," Mrs. Yakimov declared. She grabbed Milena's hand and squeezed it tight. Joan slipped past Patton into Jessie's bay. As they started explaining Jessie's condition, Patton's gaze drifted up to one of the ED clocks. It was past midnight! It was officially Virgil's birthday! How did he not notice? He stalked around the desks towards where Roman slept. The public services director had finally given in to sleep after donating blood for Jessie's surgery and organizing a blood drive from all the healthy residents of the quarantine. He laid sprawled out on the stretcher underneath the isolated observation room window. His letter jacket laid over him like a blanket, arm tucked under his head.
"How 'bout you shut up, man," Roman grumbled, rolling onto his side.
"Roman," Patton whispered, shaking Roman's shoulder.
"Huh?" Roman groaned, jutting up. His sleepy eyes scanned the room before settling on Patton. He gave the doctor a goofy, half asleep smile. "Hey, Pat."
"It's Virgil's birthday," Patton explained.
"Oh, yeah," Roman yawned. "I guess it is." Roman blinked and suddenly shook his head like a dog. "It's his birthday!"
"Exactly!" Patton chirped. "We need to do something!" Roman rolled off the stretcher, stumbling onto the floor. He jumped up and grabbed Patton's hand. Roman raced down the halls, Patton scrambling to keep pace. He almost got to the quarantined doors when he turned into a half-open laundry room. Patton rubbed the walls until he found the light switch. The laundry room had an older washer and dryer stuffed in the corner. Shelves lined the walls, filled with cleaning supplies, spare blankets, pillows, and a few extra casting materials.
"Ok, you film me, and I'll do the birthday song," Roman said, padding over to the shelves. Patton scrambled for his phone and pulled up his camera. "I finally figured it out. He's going to hate this."
"Three, two, one," Patton said. He pressed record.
"It's your birthday!" Roman sang to the tune of Welcome to the Black Parade. "It's your birthday! And though you're stuck on the road driving, we didn't forget, it's your birthday! It's your birthday! I hope you know that you've made friends here, so I hope you find some happiness!" Roman stuck a vibrant pose at the end of the song, flinging out his arms. His hands slapped a shelf full of detergent. The bottles tumbled off the shelves with a loud clatter. Roman stood frozen, still smiling.
"Crap," Roman said. Patton put his phone away.
"It's ok!" Patton assured him, hurrying over. "We'll just pick these up, no harm done!"
"Hold on," Roman said, thrusting a hand in front of Patton. He squinted through the shelving unit towards the wall. "I think there's something back here."
"Like what?" Patton asked. He grabbed an armful of bottles and set them on the washer. Roman grabbed the shelving unit. The unit grinded against the floor as Roman pushed it away from the wall. Patton grabbed the other side and helped balance out everything still on the shelf. Roman squeezed into the space between the shelves and the wall.
"Patton, there's a hole back here!" Roman gasped. Patton scurried around the shelving unit and squeezed in beside Roman. Sure enough, there was a hole in the wall with rusted metal climbing upwards. Roman stuck his head into the chute. "I can't see anything. I think this is a laundry chute!" Roman pulled his head out. Dust clung to his hair. Something clicked in Patton's head. He gasped, covering his mouth. "What? Do I have bugs in my hair?"
"I just got an idea," Patton gasped. "You know how we were talking earlier about Jessie McCallum's surgery? All that stuff about things we can't predict, stuff we might need but won't be able to get?" Patton squirmed past Roman and stuck his head into the hole. "I think this is our answer!"
————————
"I've got the blueprints you asked for," Thomas sighed. His face bounced around Patton's phone, which was propped against a dusty bottle of detergent. Logan and Joan joined Patton and Roman in the laundry room, watching Thomas make his way through the hospital. "If I'm reading them right- and that's a pretty big if here, guys- that chute starts in here..." Thomas stepped into a dark room. He flicked on the lights, the phone going white for a moment.
"Hey, hey!" Roman stammered, hitting the wall. His head was deep into the chute, jacket tied around his waist. "I see light! Thomas! Tommy boy! Thomathy! Tomma-lomma-ding-dong! Thomas the dank engine! Can you hear me?" Thomas moved through the new room- another laundry room, from the looks of it. Metal groaned off-screen.
"Roman?" Thomas called. His voice echoed twice; once through the phone, once down the chute.
"It's us!" Roman cheered. "Hi!" Metal groaned again from floors above. Thomas wrung his hand through his hair.
"I'm on the third floor," Thomas muttered. "This room is pretty dusty, guys. This washer is ancient. I don't even think there's a dryer in here. We have been vastly underusing space on this floor!"
"I don't understand how the CDC missed this," Logan huffed, arms crossed. "This chute is a break in the quarantine."
"It's not on the modern blueprints," Thomas explained, shuffling the rolled-up papers stuck under his arm. "I guess we just forgot about it over time."
"This is perfect," Patton declared, clapping his hands together. "If we need something during Jessie's surgery, we could toss it down the chute and bypass the quarantine!"
"Wait, Patton," Thomas stammered. "The CDC's strict about their protocols. They'd want us to report this chute so they can seal it off."
"Thomas, if we do that, we're denying ourselves the tools we need to help Jessie!" Patton groaned.
"We're playing in the world of probabilities," Logan huffed. "Who knows if we would even require this chute? I don't believe it's worth the risk of the CDC finding out. We could possibly face charges for keeping this from them."
"If it means saving a girl's life, I'll do whatever I can," Patton declared.
"It's a pretty steep drop," Roman muttered, looking back into the chute. "How would we get stuff down without it breaking?"
"Egg drop," Joan said. All eyes turned to the medical director. "What? Like you guys didn't do egg drops in middle school. We put whatever we need in some packaging and drop it down. It'll be fine."
"You can't be agreeing with this," Logan snapped. "This chute is a danger to the whole hospital!"
"The only person with Pinto's so far is Ms. Lakin, and she's double quarantined," Joan huffed.
"Oh, we can get a giant fan up there and have it blow into the chute," Roman chirped. "All the infected dust would just fly back down here!"
"Roman, now's not the time," Logan grunted. He stalked up to Patton. "Patton, I don't understand why you're so insistent on using this chute and risking your career."
"I need to make sure Jessie's gonna be alright," Patton huffed.
"You're risking criminal charges for something you might not even need!" Logan snapped.
"Logan," Thomas said.
"I can't understand why you always do this," Logan grumbled, hands flying in front of him. "You're willing to break hospital regulation at the drop of a hat for the chance to help someone."
"Logan, that's what doctors do!" Patton huffed.
"Doctors also need to have a job to help their patients, which you'll lose eventually if you continue in this fashion," Logan hissed.
"Logan," Thomas said, this time a little harsher.
"You never listen to your own common sense!" Logan shouted.
"Logan, I love you, but can you please stop?" Patton snapped. "I, I hate this conversation."
"Logan!" Thomas shouted. "Logan, look at your coat!" Everyone's gaze drifted to Logan's white coat. Faint red dots covered Logan's sleeves. Patton stopping breathing. Very carefully, Logan peeled his coat off. He let it fall at his feet. A red, scaly rash marked with small dots of blood covered his arms.
