I have such a difficult time connecting with the Cats community now. Part of me feels like maybe I'm too old for the current fandom(I don't feel old, but I'm certainly not 19 anymore). Or that perhaps it's because I don't much care about ships. Sometimes I worry that I intimidate people, and I'd hate that. Let me introduce myself and how Cats has shaped my life, and maybe I can find my people?

I first saw Cats at a tiny local theatre when I was eight. I fell in love with it, and even though I didn't have the movie yet, I spent months afterwards with just the poem book and highlights album. Eventually I got the 98 VHS too- and then another local theatre put it on when I was ten! I got to see it twice there. And afterwards, I made up my own attempt at a costume, turned our spare room into my attempt at the set, and put some chairs in there to put on the highlights show for some friends of my mother. The CD was worn out, I went on with the show, and they even gave me a card and a new CD afterwards- the London 2 disc set! Looking back, I think how embarrassing it probably was, but I was so happy and proud of myself in the moment. Two more years later, US Tour 5 came through Nashville, and I got to go and stagedoor for the first time. I wore a tail I made and one of the actresses told me I had a perfect Bombalurina tail twirl. For all those years, I worked Cats into school projects, I drew nothing else. My mom put up with it for so long, and I still thank her to this day.

And then I went into middle school. New school, new students, and I started getting bullied for it. I found other musicals I didn't get bullied for- Phantom, Wicked, and Sweeney- to latch onto, and I kinda put Cats in the back of my head. I still loved it, but my hyperfixation had waned thanks to mean kids, and other than occasionally watching the 1998 movie, I didn't think much of it for years.

But the US Tour 6 announced a date in Nashville. I hadn't seen the show in eight years, and I wasn't about to miss it. I had already started taking an interest in cosplay, but I'd never made a costume like that. I remembered admiring the CCDB as a kid though, and I told myself I was totally capable of making my own, just to go see the show in costume. And I did.

And the cast were SO sweet, and I started finding Cats fans on Instagram. I thought I could do better on the costume, so when the show stopped in Chattanooga a couple months later... I did it again.

The pandemic hit and I lost my job. Immediately I started getting work making Cats cosplays for others, and I haven't stopped since. And when the show resumed, I made an overnight trip to Memphis to dress up again!

And then, I saved until I could finally go see the Royal Caribbean production (front row all three performances), and got to cosplay on the cruise and get a picture on stage with the cast! This was absolutely everything to me, especially seeing the original choreography as opposed to the revival. I definitely cried. (I'm in the middle bottom row!)

I've gotten to make some costume pieces for three regional productions of Cats, in the Dominican Republic, Atlanta Georgia, and most recently Georgetown Texas. I've won some local cosplay contest with my costumes, too! And I'm lucky enough to own a few original pieces- though I've had to part with some too.

My love for this show has spanned just over 17 years now. I adore the story, the costumes, the choreography, the sets, and the characters. It's part of how I learned I am autistic. It's given me confidence I didn't know I could find. And every time I get to see it live, I feel like I'm where I belong. The fandom has felt quiet. And I'm not sure if that's just because I don't know where I fit in? So here's hoping I can find my tribe.

Y/N:  Well, Jimmy, the track 'Labyrinth' was not actually included when I first finished my album. But I fought for it to be because I felt like it really fit the theme and  I Just NEEDED to have it on the album. My inspiration for it definitely came from a certain someone who knows exactly who he is.*smirks*

Y/N:  I appreciate your interest in my music, and I'm glad that my fans have been so perceptive in picking up on the themes and inspiration behind my work. 'Midnights' is an album that draws heavily from my personal experiences and the people around me, and I am thankful to have been able to put those experiences into my songs. At the end of the day, music is supposed to be about love and expression, and I'm happy to have succeeded in that with this album.

JF: Y/N, I know that you and Taylor Swift attended the F1 Vegas GP together. What was it like to be at the race and see all of the action from trackside? It seems like you two had a blast together on social media.

Y/N: It was incredible to be at the F1 Vegas GP with Taylor. The atmosphere was electric and it was so exciting to see all the action from trackside. Taylor and I had so much fun together and we couldn't stop talking about the race and how awesome it was. We also got a chance to meet with some of the drivers and chat with them which was a special moment for both of us and I'm so glad I had Taylor there to share it with me.

favorite thing about them

I'll do two, because one is mostly canon based and the other mostly headcanon, but not fully. The canon favourite thing is that he's imperfect at his job. It's not just his size that prevented him from becoming a sniper, it also says he is "unable to stay still". I think it would be easy to make him a total machine and just slap the social anxiety on top as the only "imperfection" he has, especially since he is a minor character in a fucking pew pew ka-boom game. But they literally said he's actually not that good at his job (like, if he's unable to stay still, this won't impact just his sniper abilities, you know?). So that's neat, I love when people are allowed to be not that perfect at their job. And the favourite headcanon thing is that he's a gentle giant, I just love the type. Yeah, he's huge and kills people, but he'll also cradle a little bunny like it's the most precious creature on Earth.

Uhh apart from the fact that people for some reason (ahem, racism) replace Gaz with him instead of just adding him?.. I think he either compensates for his anxiety or just feels much more confident at work and it makes him a little too cocky without needed (for me at least) charisma/unseriousness towards himself. Judging mostly from his body language. I know he has a sense of humour, but yeah... maybe calm down a little big guy.

Oooh, I actually have one this time! It's from my favourite German band Oomph! - "Kleinstadtboy". I like the whole album it's from because they experimented with their sound and quite successfully in my opinon, and this one has both the lyrics (yeah it's about gayyyys but also toxic masculinity in general. fits him well I think) and the according sound. The overblown dry electronics crackling/rasping just suits him, I think. I think he smells of static electricity too.

In this post, i wrote about how in minimoni music, jimin made it very clear to me that MUSE is a concept album. his experiences of falling in love on this album are not true to his own experiences OR he doesn’t want us to think as such.

and you could say im making excuses because i like jikook all you want, but i am taking that from an artistic point of view. jimin explaining his process jn developing the messages of the songs felt similar to how jungkook chose the songs for golden. love is a universal emotion, let’s sing about that. jimin used love as a metaphor here, if you can’t comprehend the idea that art is transformative to the human experience, then im sorry.

i’d say probably 75% of music written these days is not directly autobiographical anymore. even when you’re writing about yourself, you twist things that might sound better written in different ways, etc. i find it hard to pair every word written by an artist back to their personal life. some artists are very clear about it, like jimin on face and yoongi’s solo work, but other times things are not so 1 to 1.

for the usage of “her,” there is NO way in HELL that jimin could use a “he/him” pronouns in a song if he truly is queer. i believe him to be so, and even then him singing about a girl does not erase his queerness. but his status and culture prevent him HEAVILY from referring to anyone else. like wake up seriously!!! and i find it funny that no one talks about how the rest of the songs on the album don’t use pronouns! everyone immediately focused on who!

plus jimin got extremely embarrassed in those clips talking about the romance theme of the album, and i just feel like he either doesn’t want to connect himself to it or feels uncomfortable with thr narrative. something is up in how he is acting.

finally, i will say that who being the final song leaves us with the notion that this person (whether jimin or not) hasn’t found a true love. they’ve been searching and dreaming, but nothing has come to them. even if you want to tie it back to jimin, he says this about who.

he said a similar thing in minimoni music about using who at the end to convey that he is ultimately left with an empty feeling, questioning when he will feel excited about life again. all of the previous track feeling upbeat, happy, and full of love end with who, a song without definitive confirmation that this person has found love.

i already have a hard time determining the reality of jikook’s relationship, i don’t like to blindly convince myself they’re real. still though, i find a lot of jimin’s thoughts on muse fall out of range for jimin’s romantic experiences. muse is not about himself directly.

I am counting Look Alive Sunshine as part of Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na) because it's true ok -- it kinda feels like the two of them coping with their separation during the exile era and it cracks me up to hell and back

Bulletproof Heart -- Bill trying to convince Ford to join him during Weirdmageddon and it's working

SING -- this is definitely how Bill sees himself. In a Billford context, I can see this also as him trying to convince Ford

Planetary (Go!) -- wow, our first 100% pre-betrayal Billford song! It tastes like candy and battery acid and stardust

The Only Hope For Me Is You -- this could easily apply, with its galactic imagery and love-song-esque feeling. I could see this being Ford, having been by Bill's side after Weirdamageddon for many years, telling him "This isn't the answer, we only need each other"

Party Poison -- HHHHHHHHH it feels like Billford in that it feels like the two of them interacting. Lyrically, it mostly makes me think of Ford during Weirdmageddon trying to stop the party, but MCR are musical geniuses so it also feels like the party itself. This one turned me into a little geek ngl it's one of their songs that gets the biggest primal reaction out of me.

Save Yourself, I'll Hold Them Back -- gonna be honest, this one, more than anything else, reminded me of Dipper and Wendy's time together during Weirdmageddon. It does feel very much like Bill though in the sense that it bleeds anarchy and lasers

S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W -- again, this was part of the soundtrack of my toxic relationship, so I really want it to be Billford but if I'm being honest it's just hard to see.

Summertime -- This does feel like Billford, in a more fluffy way than any of the others. "Terrified of what I'd be [...] Could you stop the noise" feels a lot like Ford as he met Bill. Really, this whole song is more Ford-sung than Bill, but I could also see most of the lyrics being sung by Bill (it just depends on his back story, which as of now we can only speculate)

DESTROYA -- I definitely would put this on a Billford playlist, but imo this is another vibes-only one. Like, the denial of God and the "we're in this together" and stuff is there, but lyrically it just doesn't quiiite hit the mark for me

The Kids From Yesterday -- much like Planetary (Go!), this one feels like pre-betrayal, stardust and citric acid, Billford

Vampire Money -- this seems like Bill's initial ideal of how Billford would turn out lol. Also, Bill partying and pretending he's okay without Ford during the exile. Also, Ford partying and pretending he's okay without Bill during the exile. Also, Ford being mad at Bill during the exile. Also-

We Don't Need Another Song About California -- this does feel like Ford talking to Bill, and it also has Billford vibes

(i know there are others but i haven't heard them that often so i wouldn't be a good judge so! moving on...)

Tomorrow's Money -- despite the actual point of this song, it also feels like Bill talking to Ford post-season 2 at some points

AMBULANCE -- oh this is very Billford. Yessiree, this is the good shit, especially One Of Us AU

Gun. -- This is definitely from Ford's perspective. What are you obsessing over a gun for? To kill this dream demon? Why are you so worried about having a son? Hm? So in other words, you're obsessing over this dream demon and sad you can't have a family with him? Is that it? Pretty gay tbh

The World Is Ugly -- This is an us-vs-them love song. This was made for them.

The Light Behind Your Eyes -- Bill sad about losing/leaving Ford cause he's just one more in a string of people dear to him but especially Ford because it's been so long since someone was that close and he wishes now that he could've done things differently but alas

Kiss the Ring -- I'm sorry, it's mostly just Weirdamageddon-era Bill. Some of it is like Ford replying to him, but otherwise there's not really all that much Billford in it

Make Room!!!! -- yeah again, it's mostly just Weirdmageddon Bill, though in this one he is doing a lot of ogling Ford I think

Surrender The Night -- oh Billford 100%. Dreams, secrets, surrender, everything. It's just Them, and you can't change my mind

Burn Bright -- this feels like the idealized version of Billford we you all have in our your heads, y'know? Like, we you want them to go on these adventures together and be steamy about it a good amount of the time, and that's what this is. This is them being anarchist murder hoboes together and I love that for them <3 and that's that ig

i'd like to preface this by saying character/song associations are not my strong suit (i could never make a character playlist 😔), so for all i know this may be total nonsense. but anyway! the (shipped) gold standard by fall out boy feels like a very tobias song to me. again, it might be a reach, but it's got some lyrics that make me think of tobias ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (disloyal order of the water buffalos from the same album gold standard is from also has some very tobias lines, but that one feels like a bit more of a reach)

They’ve been in a bad mood since the last mission that they went on. It was something that always happened since when they had to work together in that extent it often brought up bad memories from when they were in the previous universe. 

Luther and Diego were able to work together far better than they had been back when they did this the first time, they spent far less time arguing and more time actually working out a plan. Allison had lost the arrogance that she once had and used her power a lot less flippantly. Five was able to control his powers more than he had been the last time that he was seventeen and starving. Klaus had learned how to control both his drug habit and his powers so that he was more than the tag-along or the lookout. Ben had also made friends with the Horror and was able to control it without it hurting him. The biggest change was likely that Viktor was with them, which was something that none of them would have ever been able to dream of in their last timeline.

By all accounts their mission had actually gone well. It was something small this time, unlike the world-saving missions that they had been forced through the last couple of months. They were still tired and rather banged up, which made them all pretty irritable.

Klaus staggered off to his room after seeing his newly broken arm was given the attention that it needed from their mother. Diego and Luther were forced to go with their father so that they could debrief him on everything that had happened. Allison and Ben walked towards the bedrooms with their fingers intertwined, sharing secrets that they didn’t want anyone else to know. That meant that it was only Five and Viktor standing out in the hallway.

Five felt jumpy and restless. The mission that they were in involved a lot of talking and very careful moves, which meant that he couldn’t burn off the extra energy that adrenaline always gave him. He already felt like he was bouncing off the walls and he hadn’t even tried to lay down so that he could go to sleep yet.

He started down the hall so that he could get to his room and burn off some brain power with the litany of math problems that he had been working on. He also likely needed to work on his music before his producer started coming after him because they didn’t have enough filler tracks for the album that he was meant to be putting out during the next month.

Before he even made it past the foyer, he felt a hand slip into his, “Hey, do you want to go back to my room?”

He wasn’t able to make any words surface in his mind. Too much was happening and yet not enough. He had to be somewhere else, do something else, to distract himself from the thoughts of what had been forced to do to get back to his family all those years ago. So instead of replying to his boyfriend with kindness and compassion like he knew he should have, he activated his power. With a pop and the strong scent of ozone, he appeared in the center of his bedroom. 

He jumped off of the little box that he had landed on, which was technically an old training method that his father had used when he had first unlocked his powers. He didn’t need it anymore, since he had both used his powers extensively in his first universe and then again when he had come back. He was able to get his location down to a tiny point even if he wasn’t able to see it before he jumped. He still liked having the dedicated landing port in his room so that if someone had moved something then he wouldn’t ruin whatever that was by landing on top of it.

The chalk that he had been working with before the mission bell went off was still sitting on his desk. He picked it up and began to press it against the wall so that he was prepared to pick up where he had left off as soon as his brain was back into the mode that it needed to be in. He was feeling frazzled and out of sorts because what he had expected from the mission hadn’t actually turned out to be the case. 

There was a knock on the door and then it opened to reveal the very boyfriend that he had left downstairs. Viktor’s chest was heaving, which showed that he had run up all of the stairs to get to the attic room that his boyfriend had taken as his own when they all decided that they needed to spread out in their manor. His face contorted in anger and he shouted, “Five Hargreeves!”

Five jumped and nearly dropped his chalk. Anger reared up inside of him as well, he was frustrated and wanted to sort himself out by focusing on his math problems. “Viktor! Can’t you see that I’m busy?”

“You don’t get to be busy when you can’t even be bothered to use your words with me,” he shouted. “We had this conversation a week ago when you did this to me the first time. Were you not listening or do you just not care?”

If he hadn’t felt the way that he did, he would have been able to recognize that Viktor was feeling scared and hurt. That was the main reason that they got in fights after they went on missions, because Viktor was always terrified that his place on the team was going to be revoked and he would be forced back into his medication. He wasn’t in the right mind to be logical, only scared and feral, so he snapped, “I was listening.”

“Then you just don’t care, which isn’t much better!” Viktor shouted, exasperated and obviously getting more upset. The space above his cheeks and onto his nose were beginning to turn red. The lines around his mouth crinkled as he tried his best not to cry.

Five, logically, knew that Viktor didn’t do well with arguments because of what had happened the last time that they had all done this. The morning before he had gotten in his head that he had to try time-travel, they had gotten into an argument about whether or not Viktor needed to hear the reports of how the missions went when they all came back. Then Five had disappeared and Viktor had been left without his best friend and defender in a house full of people that had been taught to hate him the entire time they were growing up.

His brain wasn’t acting logically, which was causing quite the struggle between them both. The part of him that existed in that deep, dark void in the back of his consciousness was screaming at him to stop what he was doing, tell Viktor that he was in the wrong, and make up with the boy that he loved more than the world itself. He wasn’t used to listening to that voice despite having been back in the careful arms of their partners for quite some time, so he acted out instead.

“Not everything has to be about you! We did all of this shit to try and stop you from blowing up the fucking world but you should have known not to do that anyway,” Five snarled. “We forced ourselves to relive our trauma and be exploited and abused by a man that wants nothing more than a social status boost because you made us. You’re the reason that we’re all back here and usually miserable!”

That struck a nerve that Five had forgotten even existed. When they had all first come back, they had discussed it with each other and agreed that they had all made mistakes but their father was the most at fault. If any of them were unknowingly drugged and as powerful as Viktor was, then there was a high chance that they would have responded much worse than how he did. Still, Five was angry and scared and trying not to let the memories of his dead partners flash into his mind like they were trying to.

Viktor opened his mouth to say something but the only thing that came out was a sob. He placed his hand over his mouth and turned his head to the side so that it was harder for the other man to see the streaks of tears that were making their way down his cheeks. When he finally did manage to say something, he said it so quietly that Five wasn’t sure that he had said anything at all, “If you hate it so much then why don’t you just leave again?”

“I… I don’t hate it here,” he admitted. Seeing his lover that vulnerable, crying and shaking in his room, reminded him too much of the way that he had screamed at them to let him out of the basement. It brought back memories that still haunted him, both when he was awake and asleep.

Five set the chalk down on his desk and then began to rub his fingers together so he had some kind of stimulus to distract himself. He walked over to his bed and sat down heavily, refusing to look up and meet the gaze of the man he had fought tooth and nail to get back to. “I promise I didn’t mean that I said. I was just… I get like this sometimes after missions, which is why I come up here to try and burn off the energy.”

“You don’t burn enough energy when we’re running around trying to stop robbers?” Viktor asked. He was slowly untucking from himself and crossing the space between them so that they could sit beside each other.

Once the bed dipped with the weight of another body, Five tentatively reached out and threaded their fingers together. He could see the red color of his chalk stick now sticking to the alabaster skin on the back of his lover’s skin. He shuddered as he got the image of Viktor in that crisp white suit, bleeding from a bullet wound in the center of his chest, stuck in the forefront of his mind.

The question that the other teen had asked was a valid one. Five didn’t quite understand how his powers worked either and there was no way that they were going to get Reginald to explain it. He knew that all of his partners were under the assumption that using his powers wore him out similarly to the way that someone would get tired from running that distance. It was different than that, more like a muscle in his brain had gotten tired to the point where he was so sleepy that he could barely function. They had been around him when he was first being trained, along with the rest of them, so all they had seen was him passing out.

“I feel like a bird trapped in a cage,” he whispered. He leaned over so that his forehead was resting on Viktor’s shoulder. A long time ago, in the first timeline and before Dolores, he wouldn’t have been able to have that kind of vulnerability to someone. Touching was always off-limits for them because Reginald was under the assumption that it would make them grow too close to each other. He was right, of course. As soon as they had started not listening to him and doing things that they wanted, they had all realized just how in love they were.

“What does that have to do with anything?” Viktor asked. Five could almost feel the way that his brows were furrowing and his beautiful lips were tilting down into a frown.

“I… I know that it doesn’t make a lot of sense. I used to have free reign to go anywhere that I wanted to, even if I couldn’t use my powers. I liked having that kind of freedom because I had never had it before I left,” he tilted his head down towards his hands. He wanted to be able to look into the eyes of the man that he loved, to admit all of the things that were brewing inside of him, but he was unable to. At the end of the day, underneath all of his bravado and arrogance, he was a coward. “When I first arrived in the apocalypse, I actually just wrecked everything that I could find. I ate so much chocolate and candy that I puked, I destroyed a building, I lit fire to something that I wanted later on. Of course it got a lot less fun when I realized what had happened and the excitement of knowing how to time travel was ruined by not being able to go backwards yet.”

When he stopped speaking, the room was so heavily covered in silence that he felt it almost as a physical force pushing down on him. “I was hoping that when I came back to the timeline but didn’t time travel that I would have the same kind of freedom, but I don’t.”

Viktor threaded his fingers together with Five’s so that their palms were pressed flush together. He leaned over so that their heads were resting against each other, but he kept his eyes closed so that Five didn’t feel as overwhelmed with the oppressive force of him. It gave him the strength and reassurance to know that while they had a stupid fight every now and again, it wasn’t going to result in them breaking up like he always feared.

He took a deep breath as he steadied his resolve to keep going, “We have to stay here and pretend that we don’t know what’s really going on when we do. We know what Dad is planning for us when we’ve gotten old enough to handle it and our powers are at a certain level but we can’t let him know and that leaves us trapped in this stupid house. I… I had thought that I would be able to go where I liked and do what I wanted but I’m still trapped here.”

“Do you think that you’re trapped when you have us?” Viktor asked, his voice soft and compassionate.

He thought about it for a minute, getting his thoughts in the line that he had tried to achieve when he was looking at the math scrawled on his walls. “I was using the metaphor earlier for a reason, Viktor,” he chuckled.

“Just explain it to me then, you ass,” he laughed. He pulled away enough that they were looking at each other. Five lurched forward so that he could pretend to bite at the tip of his nose, which resulted in Viktor wrapping his arms tightly around him so that they were both forced to flop back onto his bed.

They growled at each other, both of them now pretending to nip and bite before they burst into laughter. It released the rest of the tension that had been built up during their fight so that they were settled back into the comfort and adoration that always hung over them when they were together.

Five let out a little sigh and turned his head up towards the ceiling. “I don’t think that I’m totally trapped when I have you all, nothing like what it must have been like when you were growing up here without me. It’s just… I’m a bird trapped in a cage. I have all the food, water, and cleaning supplies that I need to live but I’m not free to do as I wish. I can’t fly or soar or air out my wings in the sunshine. I have companions but they’re also trapped.”

The silence that hung over them again was still oppressive but also far lighter than it had been moments prior. Viktor let out a little sigh and then tucked his head against Five’s neck so that his nose was pressed into his boyfriend’s collarbone. “If you’re a bird inside a cage than I’m a fish.”

Their partners had come to check on them a little while after their fight, which was the last time that they were all in Five’s room. They tried not to gather in one place over and over again because it was more likely that their parents were going to find out about what they were doing. It had been enough time, almost six months, since they had that fight and the idea that followed afterwards, that they were safe moving back to that place.

Viktor was fussing around the space in a way that made Five want to explode. He was desperately looking forward to when they turned eighteen and their father was forced to hand over the money that they had made when they were underage. The laws that protected minors working in Hollywood and similar careers had been cracked down as soon as the Academy debuted, which meant that not even the great Reginald Hargreeves could get around them. As soon as they had their money, they were going to buy a grand place to live and have the domestic bliss that they had dreamed of for a collective of almost fifty years.

He had finished setting up the projector and the sheet that they were going to be putting it on an hour ago. The sheet was pressed before it was put away because Grace never did anything halfway, but they had steamed out the wrinkles that were left after it was folded in the drawer so that it would give a better viewing. They had also moved the mattress off of Five’s bed and onto the ground with all of the pillows and blankets they could hold.

They had opted to keep the sheets on it instead of taking them off like when they were doing less-than-savory activities, especially since that would make it easier for them to clean everything up. They had laid out the pillows so that they all had somewhere to lay even if someone had to be on the ground because they weren’t all going to fit onto the mattress. They had also collected quite a few snacks from the last time that they were allowed to make a public appearance, but they were partially hidden underneath the bed still.

There was a knock on the door and they both jumped. It was easier for Viktor to hear when people were coming than it was for Five given his super hearing, but he had been so distracted while trying to get everything in exactly the right place that he had decided it had to be in that he hadn’t realized their lovers were that close either. 

Five jumped off of the bed and then pressed a quick kiss to his boyfriend’s cheek. They had been spending a lot more time just the two of them, especially since it was father-sanctioned, which meant that he felt more comfortable with being intimate than he was usually. He rushed to the door so that he could invite in the rest of their polycule.

“Five, what is going on?” Allison asked as the door was opened.

“If you would come inside instead of asking questions then you could find out faster,” he rolled his eyes. He moved to the side and everyone piled in. 

Before anyone could say anything about their confusion or surprise about what was happening, Viktor started, “I want everyone to find a place to sit and then get comfy! We have a lot of surprises and I want to get this all started so that we can fit it in before have to go down to training.”

There was a jumbled response from their partners, but they all did as they were told despite their usual reluctance. Luther sat down in the center of the mattress since it was almost impossible for anyone to have him on the outside of a cuddle pile, especially when the entire house felt as chilly as it did in that moment. Diego sat down next to him and they shyly held hands, even though they had been together since they were fourteen. Klaus cuddled up into Diego’s side with Ben in between his legs. Allison sat down on the other side of Luther and then motioned for them to come and join her. Five did as he was asked, tucking himself underneath a blanket while also leaving enough space for Viktor if that was where he wanted to sit.

Viktor darted back to the bed and then grabbed the shopping bag that they had hidden. He distributed the favorite sodas of each of their partners and then the candies as well. He set the bag of popcorn that they had purchased down within reaching distance of Luther without giving it to anyone specific. Instead of sitting down next to Five where they had expected him to, he sat down on top of Luther’s lap.

It ended up working out better than any of them had been expecting it to because of their height difference, it also allowed him to feel warm and safe. “Vik, you really shouldn’t have,” Klaus crooned as he opened the box and began to shove the M&Ms into his mouth.

“We really should have, we’re about to subject you to my and Five’s embarrassment for about an hour,” he chuckled.

“Does this have anything to do with where you’ve been sneaking off to every third Thursday for the last six months?” Allison asked, turning her head down to Five. She then pressed a kiss to his forehead so that he didn’t think that she was mad. It was an issue that they had early in their relationship but not for very long afterwards, especially since they were all a lot more willing to communicate than they had been before.

“This is exciting,” Klaus cackled as he cuddled further into the nest that they had made amongst each other.

Five turned his head to the side so that he could watch for any nerves that might be shining through Viktor. Once upon a time, when he had come out to them as trans and then again when had admitted about his eating disorder, he had been almost so nervous that he was going to start using his powers without meaning to. Now he looked like they were simply going to watch a movie together.

He picked up the remote from behind Luther on the bed and then used it to traverse the menus. He clicked on the file that they had saved to a particular DVD the day before when they had received it. The screen came to life and the beginning credits of the music video, along with the sound of Viktor’s violin playing began to overwhelm the room. All of the other sounds had completely died down so that the only thing that was playing was the music.

Unlike the one that Viktor had shown in the showcase all those years ago when he had first come out, the music video was animated. It showed a swirl of orange ink spreading through the blackness that the credits had been on top of. There was a brief flash of a fish that turned into a bird before it morphed into two figures standing near the window. One of them had long hair and their legs tucked up into their chest, obviously a representation of what Viktor had looked like when he was a child. The one stand to the side of him had short hair and was very obviously Five.

He has a wild imagination

And tells me things that must be true

Like there's a world where I can take flight

Where I can freely move

The two figures leaned in like they were whispering together. Their tiny hands met up so that they were clasped together. It was intimate in a way that all childish relationship were, unknown to adults who couldn’t remember that time any longer. The there was another black swirl and the image was gone.

The image turned into a black bird in the same of a raven, the fan tail elegantly stretched out next to wings in flight. In the claws of the great bird was a fish, hanging in a way that looked uncomfortable but cradled so that it was obvious the animal wasn’t dead. Together they moved past a building that looked like the Academy and then into the greater streets of The City. It was unclear where they were moving because the camera would pan around the figures so that buildings were visible but then they were cradled against the clouds a moment later.

They were older now, but the one closer to the window still had long hair. They turned towards the other figure and said something that made one with short hair lurch forward so that he was holding onto the one that spoke. As the second chorus started, the black and the blue transitioned into a purple replacement for the last color. It swirled together into a tight ball before it exploded into another tender scene. The two characters were laying on a bed, one of them tilted towards the headboard and the other towards the baseboard. Their hands were woven together but the other was resting over their eyes, like they were having some kind of transcendent experience that only they were privy to.

Once the song had ended, the nervous energy that Five had been anticipating erupted in his boyfriend. He leaned over Allison so that he could grab Viktor’s hands to reassure him that everything was going to be okay.

“This was what you guys had been working on?” Klaus asked. He moved away from Diego so that he was propped up and could look at his partners better.

Viktor flushed a dark red color that made Five wanted to grab his face and kiss him like mad. He resisted when his boyfriend spoke again, “Yeah, what did you think?”

“I think that it was amazing,” Allison gushed as a grin spread out over her face. “Did you play all of the instrumentals in that piece?”

“I did,” Viktor said proudly. It had been Five’s voice that was singing, a sound that was deeper and growlier instead of the higher, clearer tone that he sung in. 

“You sounded wonderful, sweetie,” Luther directed his attention towards Five instead of praising Viktor. It made the smaller teenager’s heart sing. He loved watching his boyfriend’s reaction to being praised, but he wanted people to pay attention to him as well. He grinned and wiggled around Allison so that he could steal a kiss.

When he settled back down, he broke through the conversation that Ben was having about who they had gotten to do their animation for the video. “We have a whole album coming out with songs about our feelings towards each other and what it was like for us to live in the Academy.”

“Believe it or not, it was actually something that we came up with when we were fighting the other day,” Viktor laughed.

“That’s actually easier to believe than you think,” Ben replied with one of his sassy smirks. Viktor rolled his eyes and then leaned in to steal a kiss so that the teasing was unable to continue.

When he pulled back, he met Five’s eyes and the two of them had a silent conversation, pushing the love that they had for one another back and forth until they were sated. They would always be beside each other, even if that had to be in spirit alone.

Idol! Hyunjin x Stay! Reader: Ship

A/n: This is my first Stray Kids imagine and its basically fluff.

Summary: Being a Stay and being close to the Stray Kids was a boon and a bane, especially, when you have The Hwang Hyunjin as your boyfriend.

You were one of the closest Stay that the Stray Kids had, and they used you bigtime, as an insight to the fandom. You were the one who explained Minho what his name "Butt collector" meant in korean.

When Jisung was confused as to why a picture of him and his Lino hyung had the tag Minsung, he came to you and you answer made him run away shouting. The funniest part was on his way out of the room he and you were in, Minho was entering and Jisung collided with him, to which the pitch of his screamed increased and he ran away faster, as you were left in fits of laughter, which was joined by Minho and Chan when they heard what had happened.

You would always give the 3racha special comments and compliments on their hard work on the albums. You conveyed your own and the messages of love that the stays wanted to give them.

You and Hyunjin helped Felix to get over his insecurities and told him that the Stay loved to see his face natural and bare than all caked up. You always helped Hyunjin to decide the songs that he should perform to in his solo dance lives. You're often the one helping him shoot his vlogs, and you adored every second of these moments.

Being behind the scenes with them on your off days were the highlights of your week and sneaking around in the green room to melt in each others arms is just something else.

"Jagi?" You heard your boyfriend's whiny voice and had to look away from your phone to give the boy some attention.

"Yes babe?" You said.

"Aahh my Chanjin heart" you said that left Hyunjin dumbfounded. But you were too busy imaging the scenes from Red lights to notice that.

You loved the sight of you boyfriend in chains and this song was really close to your soul and your deep desires. Well you definitely liked to watch him all tied up especially with the huge sexy energy that he gave off during the song and the performances or practice and being able to watch them first hand seemed like a privilege to you.

But being a stay you can't help but cheer a bit louder at the moments which was known as "Hyunchan/Chanjin" moments. And as you watched them practice for the shoot or performance at times lead to a huge blush creeping on your face and your whole face heating up. You didn't realise how long you have been picturing Hyunjin in chains and things untill you felt a poke on you side and you looked at a smirking Hyunjin who cocked an eyebrow and asked "What are you thinking about thats making you blush?"

"Oh shut up" you said and right then the producer walked into the room and ushered Hyunjin out as they were ready to shoot the next scene. He bowed at you slightly and walked away.

"I don't see how this is gonna help" Felix said, finally putting his phone down.

"Stays are very observant they'll notice you both wearing the same ring" you said excitedly and Hyunjin chuckled at your fangirl side.

And then the precious moments where Felix just:

You pressed your mouth to suppress your laughter and excitement.

After the interview, Felix returned you his ring and said "Now we shall defeat Minsung!" With a supposedly evil laugh, and you squealed in excitement.

I am going to have to address this in a longer post but I originally intended this as a reply because once again we have to talk about the supposed “queerbaiting”. Look, I’m tired.

People misunderstand that "queerbaiting" by definition is a marketing ploy and tactic where media producers imply queer stories that are never actualized because they think it will bring in profit. It’s the quintessential, they want to have their cake and eat it too-- “we don’t want to turn off our conservative audiences but we still want everyone’s money so we’ll dangle something in front of you and pull out before we make our Mike Pences in the crowd upset.” In a conservative South Korean market where queer visibility is little to none and still very publicly frowned upon (Marvel's Eternals had its first gay married couple kiss on screen and many audiences in Korea at the theater were not happy about this, in case that gives you any indication of where things are in terms of how Korea feels about the gays, *hi*), to do what OOO is doing from a strategic and monetary standpoint, hurts more than it helps them. Companies will do literally anything to avoid making their group unmarketable, that’s why idols are not allowed to publicly date (OOO are btw), among other things.

I don’t know how to emphasize that for OnlyOneOf, who are a very small group (as in, they are largely unknown among 4th gen groups inside a hyper competitive industry) that come from a very small company, that to actually imply any kind of same-sex narrative would be more to their detriment. In the kpop scene, we know conformity gets you more popularity. It’s why so many groups follow trends like the girl crush concept (Blackpink, Itzy, Aespa, Everglow, and more) or why electronic dance music made a major splash across groups these last few years. OnlyOneOf doesn’t produce a typical kpop sound, they don’t have typical concepts, thus they already are at a disadvantage compared to their peers in the industry and sure, you could say by queerbaiting they’d garner attention, and they did, but a lot of it was negative (which they understood and accepted as a risk, hence why we’re getting a song called “undergrOund idOl” but it’s not on spotify yet???) and they had to censor parts of their choreography to fit broadcast standards.

(Also, and I do have to add, why is it suddenly OOO is queerbaiting but fandoms have been shipping kpop group members since the beginning, and those are actually some of the most popular/viewed kpop youtube content, i.e. “Stray Kids are not Straight Kids”, “The S in ATEEZ Stands for Straight” or “YeonBin are real” or whatever shit. Moonbyul released a song and video about a same-sex relationship and I don’t see anyone claiming she’s queerbaiting???)

I can’t say libidO and skinz are “queerbaiting” because there’s no way to look at those videos and not come away with, “this is gay.” They’re not hinting at relationships and pulling the rug from under you, it is there. And if the mvs didn’t confirm that for you, then the choreo and stage performances certainly did. The members have been very explicit in the behind the scenes of the libidO shoot that what you see narratively are three love-lines.

I don’t think OnlyOneOf set out to say “oh we’re going to pretend to be gay now” (1. don’t assume you know anything about anyone’s sexuality) but rather, they set out to depict a more mature concept about love that is explicitly sexual in nature and in Korea where women are admonished for participating in their own sexuality, it may have just been easier to say we’re just going to express carnal desire amongst us. It was a double-edged sword to begin with. You gotta understand that in kpop, when it comes to songs about love it is very much, a school crush or a puppy love or a break up song or a yearning, etc etc, but it is never about sexual desire. Idols are encouraged to be sexy but not act as sexual beings, that goes for male and female groups alike. OOO’s Instinct albums are a refusal to this rule and several others. In the end, it is all storytelling and I think they’re doing a pretty good job of it.

Anti-hero: Now none of the characters are actually anti-heroes, they're all heroes pretty much. But who cares?

The first line that hit me over the head that made me give this to Cammie was "I should not be left to my own devices". I think we all know why lmao. By extension, I don't think Zach should be left to his own devices either Mr. Running-Away-Was-My-Idea-She-Just-Did-It-Without-Me. We've all also agreed Cammie has nightmares well into adulthood so the "I wake up screaming from dreaming". Then the way it goes on reminded me of how she felt like her friends and school all turned their backs on her in book 5 "One day I'll watch as you're leaving/cause you got tired of my scheming (for the last time)/It's me, hi/I'm the problem it's me" and the rest of the chorus. I can see the same lives fitting Zach's character as well just in a slightly different way. And then everyone, they've been through a lot.

I can totally see Abby though especially in the second verse and the following pre-chorus. We see her come into book 3 with this fun, young personality and then by the end she's been hardened. The next times we see her she's got more an all business sense about her. Which is devastating considering she either managed to retain that personality or bounce back after Matt and now it's gone (maybe again). And here are these girls with her niece and they're the new young, hopeful, excited spies.

And then "Did you hear my covert narcissism I disguise as altruism/like some kind of congressman?" is SO Macey coded

Snow on the Beach: So for Joe/Rachel and Bex/Liz I focused on the lines that reflected longing for someone. Both couples spent a long time as friends kind of dancing around their feelings- so yes! Macey and Preston too, I completely agree! I go back and forth on if I see this from Joe or Rachel's perspective, I think it could go either way, and the same with Bex and Liz. I think the only thing keeping me from going full in on Macey and Preston is I see the two of them as will-they-won't-they and Joe/Rachel, Bex/Liz as mutual pining and that's the vibe I get from the song. I keep going to pull specific lines but I just end up wanting to paste the whole song!

Overall it's really cute. It paints a really sweet scene to imagine with any of the ships
