Y'know something I really love about Tumblr is that it's one of the few sites I can actually SHOW my art.

Everywhere else restricts you to squares or specific rectangles and it's so frustrating. So much art is in all sorts of unique aspect ratios and shapes that most social media is extremely hostile to or straight up won't even allow!

making hockey edits as a total newbie

having completed my first poetry edit its both easier and harder than i thought! which is pretty exciting considering the fact i have a poem in the back pocket that reminded me of the sharks. its WAY longer and i probably dont REALLY want to actualize it. but. fun process! talking about my process below the cut :)

concept

the inspiration was wanting to make a pickles edit and his number is 44 (and there are SO many sharks players that couldnt take 44 because of him. i mean it so seriously i hope they retire his number solely to inconvenience everyone for the rest of this franchises lifespan)

i dont think hes super widely known because:

the sharks are bad

marc edouard vlasic is bad

so i doubt the narrative of the edit makes much sense LOL

long story short, he used to be REALLY good. never got acknowledged for it in the broader scope. fell off with age . makes him super unpopular because hes signed 8x7m (shout out to past gm doug wilson) and hes bad. hes played with the sharks for the second most amount of games (second to patrick marleau who is like. THE shark of all time. hes so shark they call him mr shark. so if you grade on a curve...?) .

i love our shriveled husk!

the first image (the title card) came way before everything else actually, sort of my proof of concept and proof that i could actually make anything its very young pickles! that image is like. 7 years old

i got around the watermark kind of stupidly! most of the time, you can get around it by just pulling it from newsites that did pay for the rights to the image (reverse image search is a pal) or by checking social medias for reposts by the photographer or team (harder for me because i dont use any social media, use instagram only when necessary because it CRUNCHES)

yeah it was by literally pasting the thumbnail (upsized by about 334% i believe?) on top of the image which is why its such a mess of pixels . the nice thing about the human eye is that it kind of smooths over the image if you dont look too closely . other times the texture of the image is so crunchy already that it doesnt actually make a difference.

for simpler shapes i did try to use an airbrush to fix it but its not super noticeable so.

the important thing was not using photos where theres a watermark over the main focus because im not making it look good enough to pass .

are there easier ways? oh god yeah. for sure. am i using them? well if you scroll back up

these were NIGHTMARES (now text free!) i have all the things i edited as separate layers if anyone ever wants quinn hughes disembodied hand or two pickles

the concept of this one was the second, but i had the final image ready to go second and finished it last. i finished this one second after fighting for my life to compile the images for it

the ideas straightforward enough: pickles on ice with the puck, other prominent defensemen going through the motions of a shot edited in. this is when pickles is like. capital g Good

compiling the pictures were easy enough? the hardest one was actually finding one of pickles HAHAHAHA

fun fact is that i chose a bunch of right shooters by coincidence. actually a miracle that i didnt notice until comparing pickles to them in editing. which i did extremely haphazardly (seriously i was guessing when resizing them

i did all this in an art program that didnt have the ability to select the subject so i hand erased the background. i keep mentioning it but if i had to work around erik karlssons hair i get to complain about it.

first time using the soft eraser if that means anything. the green background was to help me tell what i had and hadnt erased yet

this one took me the longest by far and had me questioning the decisions that lead up to this point the most.

PAINFUL. there are five different peoples hands on this thing and i spent most of it trying to choose hands that were interesting poses+decorations and in different places. didnt bother removing the watermark on any of the hands because why do i want to make more work for myself. erik karlssons second hand did not make the cut (watermarked)

the nice thing IS that there is a sort of photoshoot they have with consistent angles and lighting. i proceeded to spend way too much time aligning five different photos on top of this to make sure the hands are in the right place and about the right size.

an interesting bit of the editing is that the colors on the trophy photo were actually an afterthought! because it looks kind of nothing.

it looks nice next to the second image because of the cymk coloring but the problem was that the first three images had colorful elements to them and the fourth is just text on the image

edits are way easier than i thought they were to make with zero knowledge of the medium! i had no idea what i was doing but i made something i feel extremely proud of, take a shot at it sometime ^_^

something i kind of struggled with was making something that felt interesting and unique but unified as a whole piece? i dont approach things with a visual "theming" in mind and i more or less tripped up on the colors LOL

For now the answer is yes, of course! most of the people who want to see my stuff are here, and i like it here. i cant take back whatever midjourney already scraped from my blog before the announcement, and all my blogs now have the 'prevent third party w/e' thing toggled on (make sure yall do that too to protect your posts! any reblogs will still have that protection as long as the OP has it toggled btw so dont stop reblogging art lol), which i trust will provide me at least as much protection as posting images on the open internet did before lol. I might increase my watermarks? idk

I did sign up for both Wafrn and Cohost just in case, and I'm also fairly active on instagram (still beansprean everywhere), but IG SUCKS for posting comics because of the aspect ratio lol. I still plan to transport My Familiar's Ghost over to AO3 eventually (very time consuming)! You can also follow my Patreon; some posts there go public after a bit if you can't pay for early access!

Okay so

I did some research and apparently this "tumblr is dying" thing is KINDA true

What it is is that, Automattic, the company that runs Tumblr, is moving all employees off of tumblr and onto other places. Some are saying this means they have a "skeleton crew" running it, but there's more.

Apparently Automattic ALSO just posted about job openings at Tumblr! So what the heck right?

The way I interpret this is that Atumattic isnt writing off Tumblr yet, but they're changing the management of it in hopes of making it profitable. Which means whats coming most likely isnt Tumblr getting taken down...but instead, Tumblr becoming EVEN MORE like other social media sites. Something I've been predicting for years; after all, to corporate upper management, they see our user numbers (which are still quite significant), and the lack of profits, as a failure to monetize properly. Which is why i WAS against all this "dont give Tumblr money they suck lol", not because they didnt suck...but because it can get a whole lot worse. But again, in search of a great thing, we squandered a good thing. Such is how capitalism works; if you cant pay the tithe for mediocrity then they will make it worse and enforce the tithe MORE. Capitalism never seeks greatness, it only seeks control. I do understand the completely valid hatred of the management Tumblr had, but trying to make it perfect was always a fucking fantasy. No matter how much you withhold your pay, they can always replace you with people who wont.

Anyways. I'll probably stay here unless it gets controlled by republican loonies. If it DOES get controlled by them, well, you can find me on Bluesky. I'm also gonna start back up on Instagram I guess. But both of those are going to be for business/art. Socially, well. oh thank you!! i definitely think you're right that it's good to face what we want and that there's no shame in wanting attention. i've been trying to not be so ashamed of everything in general because i've realized that most people deal with that too, and that being at ease with myself helps people be at ease with me too

but in general, i am very happy with the amount of attention and kind words i get, and i definitely agree that more numbers =/= more joy. i used to chase certain milestones and think that i would reach a point where i'd be content and satisfied, and reaching a milestone is cool but it's still just numbers. ultimately, it means more to me to get thoughtful feedback, or when an artist i respect likes it, or to see the same people stick around for months and years :-) i do notice that & i love to see it

and not to be mean, but i also really don't vibe with how some people i follow on instagram, that are popular artists, act very demanding of their audience's attention and money. i don't think following someone online means you pledge your eternal loyalty to them, and i never would want people to think that if they scroll by an art piece of mine without interacting, or just liking, it's a deep betrayal lol. it's fine! ultimately, my feelings are mine to deal with, and it's not on anyone else to provide validation to me at all times. i really don't want anyone to feel guilty for that

like people are not entitled to free labor from artists, but artists are also not entitled to a "fandom". i remember being really not impressed back on deviantart with how popular artists talked to their followers and tbh i think some people are rude to feel more like rock stars. it's not cute.... i don't like it... i feel like the respect has to go both ways

also im kinda glass half full-ing my way through life - if something doesn't work out, i'm like well, this is a good way to practice failure and emotion control. can't go through life with everything going smoothly at all times, that's just how it is. i cant control what happens, only what i do about it. if i post something and it doesn't work as well as i thought, oh well, it's ok, i'm learning to detach value from notes, i'm going to be just like the buddha very soon

Not much to say about it other than than the MUSIC IS SO GOOD!! I loved it so much and it sounds sick playing loudly in my earphones, especially since its very different from the music in other episodes.

Im so glad that the website im watching from has the sub have background talking in a smaller font or else i would be so lost all the time =_= (also glad it translates everything important, and also in the colour of that text in the animation)

Mephisto made every ending of each episode just go so hard, and i feel like this season also kinda needs that feel, especially how the ed starts during the episode's last min. I get that ppl think it is "op is aqua pov" and "ed is ruby pov" and it does fit that theme, but it just doesmt go as hard as mephisto :/)

i cant think of anything i actively like despite my better judgement at this current moment in time. so i guess im mad/ashamed/horrified at myself for sticking out through h0hw for so long and being like "well it has its flaws but it's soooo well written, i can look past the issues!!" like i should've fucking known. when the author threw in the transatlantic slave trade for edgy flavor or whatever i was like yeah ok i shouldve seen this coming.

izzy hands and race lol. like alex sherman said that the writers hadn't written izzy to be explicitly intentionally racist and that apparently gave people the right to shut down anyone who wanted to analyze like, subtext or the connection between "izzy's revenge" and "montezuma's revenge" and the historical significance of that joke. and on the other side of it, some fuckhead heard "izzy hands is racist" and jumped to "that means anyone who likes izzy is racist! im going to go harass izzy likers and anyone who even reblogs art of izzy–" (hi, that's me, im an izzy hater who got called racist for reblogging fanart of izzy lol) "–right now so that they stop talking about izzy."

OR alternative possibility, someone who likes izzy hands wanted to derail every single conversation about izzy hands and race ever so they started sending asks that stole "izzy critical rhetoric" and now nobody can, for example, make a meta post about izzy and homophobia without someone coming in the comments yelling at you for putting your post about izzy hands in the izzy hands tag. or whatever.

like idk who was harassing the fandom on twitter and instagram and tumblr for months but the one thing they did succeed in is derailing what started out as a thoughtful analysis of izzy that was primarily being led by fans of color. every time i see the phrase "izzy critical rhetoric" i lose braincells because the majority of that "rhetoric" came from fans of color, but those interpretations get brushed aside because someone on anon used their arguments in a death threat.

well.... they've been shady for awhile since their return and the louis re-release. i will do a throughout recap for you anon: 

if you need background on louis connection and past campaign with polari i recommend these posts

- prior to this year, polari had been inactive on instagram and did not sell clothing since 2019.

- polari returned nov 9 with a 2022 clothing line. they immediately began teasing a re-release of louis’ 2017 campaign. they also changed their pfp to the ferricadooza art

- on nov 12, the day of the louis launch, the acc posted these messages. the first message has been deleted, the second one is still up

many things to note about these!!! letters missing due to misspelling, capitalized letters, language reminiscent of dykwya, they are also screenshots of a word processor on a computer (i cant figure it out which one), Look into Polari *harry voice* “we’re all trying!!!!!!”

i also think the writing of these is very interesting which is making me think they’re coded. i tried the polari dictionary, looking into polari writing methods (like letter writing), and even cyphers and cryptography but haven’t found anything :/ tl;dr i have no clue how to decode these past their literal meanings

- after the louis re-release (nov 12) the colour of their pfp had changed about every 24 hours to a different colour used in their 2022 line. this included: peach, yellow and lavender. they skipped green. there is speculation the pfp change was every 28 hours, which is also possible as each colour was up for more than a calendar day

- on nov 13, this was commented under their most recent photo x

- the acc then posted cyan / turquoise, to their feed. it was quickly deleted. what colour is this??? blue or green??

- polari started their non-binary campaign on nov 13. they also added they/them pronouns to their bio. and another message was posted (now deleted)

- since the release of their non-binary line, louis campaign shirt and sweater are back on their website for sale. those items had been previously removed from sale on nov 13.

- harry has also been posted on the acc a few times (on both their feed and story) since they started their non-binary campaign!!!

- the quality of the pictures they post are TERRIBLE. i have no clue why they would post such low quality pics, especially ones that belong to their own campaigns. they’re so bad they’re joking about it in the comments and captions of their pics lol

my thoughts: no anon, i dont think they’re baiting us. personally, i think this is a lead up to louis is doing another campaign with them, considering they continue to post pics of him (and now harry) on their feed. polari was an insane thing louis was able to pull off at a very interesting time in his career, and considering its history, i think it was a very important project for him. i don’t think they are simply using us or louis for clout, considering all these posts are making the brand look utterly insane to most people. cryptic messaging does not draw people in, it draws US in. we know what to look for and if its worth sticking around. considering the amount of work put into all this, and that its continued for almost a month, whoever is running this acc must be very familiar with louis fanbase.

I like to think that Cat was also active in Sansa's cheerleading or softball in HS but she's a lot more lowkey there compared to Arya's hockey lolol. Probs helped raise money or design team shirts. Ned helps out where he can and gets doted on by all the moms .....
