ohhh my god i need to get off this website
#first mistake going into the lesbian tag just to immediately see lesbophobia#crazy to me that the popular stance from so many other gay ppl rn is just ālesbophobia is goodā#i cannot take it anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#why is everyone suddenly so obsessed with 'proving' that lesbians can be with men#and why are so many people being so horrible and misrepresenting our history#there absolutely were lesbians that were with men historically. because they were either bisexual women#that were forced to mislabel themselves bc of the violent biphobia in the lesbian feminist movement#or they were women unknowingly dealing with compulsive heterosexuality#like how disgusting do you have to be to look at some of these women and be like 'this was when queers were REALLY QUEER'#instead of like. having empathy and understanding about their situation#and also acknowledge that language has changed. there is no lesbian feminism anymore lesbianism is a sexuality that EXCLUDES MEN#end of sentence#there is a difference between someone questioning or who found out they were lesbian later in life#or historically where these words had different meaning the community & society was Completely Different#versus you assholes deliberately trying to force lesbianism to include men to be 'progressive'#like just so fucking vile. you should be ashamed of yourselves#literally just cannot go into any gay spaces as a lesbian anymore because it's just constant lesbophobia and no one cares#theyre more concerned with being So Inclusive and the Better Queer that they'd rather exclude an entire part of the community#and deem them 'less than'#while parroting the same shit conservatives say to all lesbians#did you win? do you feel good about ignoring and talking over and excluding us?

1,3,4,12,13 and 24 for book asks
1. How many books did you read this year?
93 but I am reading 3 books RN and will likely finish them before the end of the year
3. What were your top five books of the year?
No particular order:
Metal from Heaven by August Clarke
House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski
She Who Became the Sun and He Who Drowned the World by Shelley Parker Chan
The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson
My reviews of all are just read them. House of Leaves may not be for everyone but otherwise
4. Did you discover any new authors that you love this year?
No particular order
Shelley Parker Chan, Delilah Dawson, Yoss, Ellen Kushner, August Clarke, Micaiah Johnson, C J Leede
All authors I plan to read more of!
12. Any books that disappointed you?
Are You My Mother? by Alison Bechdel: I really loved Fun Home but this one was not on par. Bechdel really got into Freudian psychoanalysis before writing this one and it's pretty excruciating to read about a dream about hiking or whatever that actually represents her troubled relationship with her mother
Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky: This book was VERY conservative Christian. Dostoevsky would be saying it was wrong to shoot that CEO, that's basically the book actually
13. What were your least favorite books of the year?
Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke And Other Misfortunes by Eric LaRocca: VERY poorly written. All women in this also only had one personality trait: wanting to be pregnant
Most of the books I disliked are in the dnf category actually which is next and quite long
24.Did you DNF anything? Why?
Oof going through storygraph and there is a fair amount:
John dies at the end by Jason Pargin: Too stupid to keep reading. It was a webnovel first so it does the nonstop cliffhanger thing I hate about webnovels but doesn't have anything else really going for it. The humor got old fast
Woman, Eating by Claire Kohda: The subtitle was "A literary vampire novel" which should have been a warning. MFA book about a depressed vampire getting frustrated with a FedEx employee. This is a good example of "write what you know" can be the worst advice to give to boring ppl
Nightbitch by Rachel Yoder: Another example of a literary horror book (see above) that sucks bc the literary author thinks they are doing something very unique and elevating stinky dumb genre fiction
Kalpa Imperial: The Greatest Empire That Never Was by AngƩlica Gorodischer: Honestly just kind of boring. Short stories are easier to dnf bc it's easier to find out if it's not going anywhere you care for
The Infinite and the Divine by Robert Rath: This is a Warhammer book, my partner is really into Warhammer and he listened to all of TLT so it only seemed fair but I think I needed more than a passing familiarity with the lore, way too confusing
Luck in the Shadows by Lynn Flewelling: Being gay doesn't save it from being boring as shit
An Island Princess Starts a Scandal by Adriana Herrera: I was excited for a Latine wlw historical romance, any Latine genre fiction that isn't YA or short stories excites me bc YA or short stories feels 90% of the Latine genre fiction available in the States. But this just was too poorly written to enjoy
The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn: Sometimes the adaptation is MUCH better. Also poorly written
Dawn by Octavia Butler: Okay before you throw stones at me, I was REALLY enjoying this one. I just have a phobia of something that was introduced and had to stop. Scifi hates me personally bc it loves this trope. This one would actually be my biggest disappointment of the year but in a "how could you do this to me" kind of way
Genesis of Misery by Neon Yang: My frustration with this book cannot be quickly summarized, a cool concept very poorly rendered
Witch King by Martha Wells: This is like if you stripped Murderbot to only the characters talking about the plot. It is painfully boring

I did not think it was humanly possible to like Maurice book more than I already liked the movie but HOLLYYYYYY SHIT! boy do I!! I just love gay people so much holy shit. Em Forster on his way to drop the most obscenely grotesquely beautifully human prose the world has ever seen. Queer classic lit is wild cause I am just like. Yeow.. people were young and scared and felt the exact same feelings and thought the exact same thoughts I did decades and centuries ago.. also idk their personalities and the emotional turmoil and the whole opening scene makes WAYY more sense in the book. I am on ch 14 and very thrilled to see what the future holds. So far ch 7 9 and 13 were like wow what if I was coughing up blood rn!!!!! I just am madly in love with every gay person who has ever and will ever live and I'm glad we will be here forever because we make the world better and i wish even more of our historical art was preserved . But anyway I am grateful for James Baldwin and Renee Vivien and Sophia parnok and Sappho and radclyffe hall and Leslie feinberg and em Forster and vita Sackville west and Virginia Woolf and collette and riyoko ikeda and god I love gay people keep making art forever!! Cannot wait to reread the well of loneliness in the fall by golly!!

I saw @jadelotusflower do this and thought it looked fun!
The last book I read: I'm in the middle of a CaPri reread, so technically the last book I read was Captive Prince by CS Pacat. Before that, though, I read this really niche middle grade called White Sands, Red Menace by Ellen Klages that was the sequel to one of my favorite ever childhood books - it's a historical fiction about two girls whose parents are atomic scientists in the 1940s and it was fantastic.
A book I recommend: So, so many. I think rn I'm gonna have to say Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner, because I just finally got a copy of my own and I'm dying to reread it. It's blurbed as a "cult classic fantasy of manners", with bonus gay swordsmen, and I love it to death.
A book that I couldn't put down: Most recently, it was Master & Apprentice by Claudia Gray, which I've been meaning to read for years and it did not disappoint. One of the best Star Wars books I've read in ages.
A book I've read twice (or more): I've read Party Shoes by Noel Streatfeild every single summer for probably close to 15 years - it's about a family planning and putting on a pageant that steadily grows in scale as they go, set in 1945 England. It captures the atmosphere of preparing for a show so well, it makes my performer heart happy.
A book from my TBR: Just one?? There are so many (The Sunshine Court, House of Flame and Shadow, and Ghosts of the Shadow Market are a few notable, overdue ones). I am determined to get to the third Locke Lamora book, The Thorn of Emberlain, this summer - even though it'll mean I've caught up on all the Locke books that have been published.
A book I've put down: I'm trying to get better about DNFing, so I don't struggle through books for no good reason. Most recently was The Beast of Beswick by Amalie Howard, a histrom I had heard good things about but which ultimately contained scenes with dubious consent.
A book on my wish list: I'm gonna cheat and pick two - I'm dying to have a copy of Band Sinister by KJ Charles, which I absolutely loved a few months ago, and I cannot wait for Swordcrossed by Freya Marske to be released later this year.
A favorite book from childhood: I think I'd have to say The Penderwicks, by Jeanne Birdsall. It had everything I wanted in a book - an older sister, a rebellious girl, a writer, a mansion, a scene with pretty dresses, and lots of adventures I would never dream of having - and I read it countless times.
A book you would give to a friend: It would depend on the friend! For some reason the one that comes to mind is The Chosen and the Beautiful by Nghi Vo - a slightly magical retelling of The Great Gatsby from a queer female perspective. It was under 300 pages, with a familiar story, but absolutely stunning writing.
The most books you own by a single author: It's probably Sarah J Maas. I have all 8 books in the Throne of Glass series, plus two duplicates, and then five others from various other series.
A nonfiction book you own: Sex Matters by Alyson J McGregor, about the dangers of the male-centric medical and pharmaceutical world.
What I'm currently reading: I've got a couple going rn - Prince's Gambit by CS Pacat, Emma by Jane Austen, and Gods & Monsters by Shelby Mahurin (via audiobook).
What I'm planning to read next: Kings Rising, obviously, and then probably Immortal Longings by Chloe Gong.
I'm not gonna tag anyone, but feel free to do this if you see it!!
#the forest speaks#book recs#I LOVE talking about what I'm reading#I could probably do one of these a month

the only reboot i want where everything ends/begins in tragedy is a marauders reboot. would it destroy me? absolutely. do i want it anyway? yes. this, however, is a travesty. this doesn't even have good bones for a story. enemies to forced lovers to would-have-divorced-if-we-didn't-diers? also, more white people? more straight people? how the hell do j*hn and mary apparently "save the world" by the way? wasn't j*hn mary's small town girl? i can already see how this is gonna go. black screen opens, dean makes a comment about how he's in heaven, getting to hear the whacky stories about his parents falling in love based on lies and cupid's poorly-aimed arrow, and then crazy shit happens for a few seasons (god pls i really, really don't want multiple seasons of this), and then it ends with mary on the ceiling and j*hn shouting, "dean, take sammy and go!" and then it either ends there or dean's voice fades in to say, "but we're all dead and happy, so it's okay! it took a while for me and my brother to get here, but that's another story..."
#jen sin pls prove me wrong#im literally BEGGING you to prove me wrong#i mean. you cant because i will not be torturing myself further. but still.#also yes i want a harry potter prequel about the marauders.#the good hp prequel that lives in my head involved plus sized lily. desi james. asian gay sirius. gay remus. good peter until he's not. etc#i know i wouldn't get that but we also aren't getting a prequel so a guy can dream.#now watch they're gonna do a prequel and ima be PISSED#anyways that's off topic and fandom hopping#back to this. jen sin pls. daneel pls.#also like. like. if they do open up in heaven and have a heaven ending. i will eat my fucking hat for a throwaway line about dean and cas#yes im that pathetic#i also cannot eat hats. so thats how much i believe in that#but my point is. this is the weirdest thing that could have ever happened. there's no good bones for a story here!#the only thing i want is to see mary tripping on acid and mistaking j*hn for a woman when they met. let that be his villain origin story#this is like when we all heard about the president snow prequel of the hunger games and went: š¬š#historically the indisputable villains we all literally LOVE to hate are stories we do not want to hear#you ever hear anyone asking for delores umbridge's backstory? literally no one has. no one wants that. no one cares#j*hn is the delores umbridge of the spn fandom. he is LITERALLY paralleled to the overall villian of the show#pitch a chuck and amara spin off and see what the response is to that. honestly it would probably be better#wait hold on. does this mean we get matt cohen? love that man. no hate to him. still gnashing my teeth rn#okay im probably done posting about this now. moving on from this episode of s16. we get 8 months of peace before i have to think about it#sobs says things

hiiii so i know u like classics/ancient roman stuff ā how does one get into that? like what books do u recommend etc etc
HELLO and ok iām so not an authority on this because iām really just getting into the classical antiquity scene myself..but probably the start of my ancient rome madness was shakespeareās julius caesar which i CANNOT stress enough slaps so hard. ***not like fully historically accurate i gather, but i love the drama and iāve been delighted that actually most of roman politics WAS that dramatic in reality. cut bc i love to run my mouth
in terms of books i havenāt been reading that much because school term :-// but i read erich segalās classical comedy anthology (aristophanesā birds, menanderās samia, plautusā menaechmi, terenceās eunuchus) recently because i wanted something free and easy and i liked the roman ones (plautus & terence)! recommend if youād like something mindless (though ancient comedy does still tell u important stuff about society at the time) BUT much caution because as with a lot of classical antiquity the plays deal heavily with rape and misogyny (ancient comedian voice: watch how hard i can hate women!!!)
for poetry iāve been in the middle of ovidās metamorphoses (horace gregoryās translation) for a while but i like what iāve read, like that the myths are split and small enough to uhh eat one at a time. ovid = snack realā¦ā¦.other stuff on my reading list are rubicon and attis by tom holland who other than being a critically acclaimed young british actor has also written some fantastically insightful historical non fiction ā¦ā¦ this is a joke clap if you wish
what i HAVE been consuming however is loads of podcasts. theyāre fantastic because i can put them on while iām doing work..itās really like SING MUSE! OF THE BATTLE OF PHILIPPI. come hither fair bard and play me some mother f*cking odes. in particular The Ancients which is on spotify and has loads of stuff on ancient history and the like; the guests on the show are all historians/classicists whoāve written about the content of their episode so if you like the topic you can do the further reading really conveniently. i recall that battle of philippi episode in particular made me very upset about cassius and the collapse of the roman republicā¦.itās a little scattered sometimes but i like it because it makes me feel like iām piecing together gossip bit by bit. E.G. i think on one of the cicero episodes they mentioned his clodius feud and i, very unlearned at the time, went CLODIUS? OF THE CATULLUS BITTER BREAKUP POETRY FAME? WHO IS THIS GUY and i found other episodes of other podcasts about him and they just kept saying things. the scandals didnāt stop. #problematicfave #prettyboysupreme #legitimateplebeiantribune #gangleader
speaking of catullus YES also read catullusā poetry. most of it you can find online and gay people on tumblr me included do translations like theyāre being held at gunpoint (honestly maybe one of my favourite ways to consume translated works though itās about the personal yet communal nature of itā¦.sharing verses..sigh..) ANDāre podcasts, i heard the cicero audio drama is really good, but it costs a bit to listen to and i havenāt figured out how debit cards work so thatās on hold for me rn, but iām PLOTTING
ik you asked about ancient rome but ...read war music by christopher logue recently and ooohhh goodness. itās great!!! i love fight scenes and the like so i suppose it appealed directly to me but itās really cool in general (iliad books 16-19 translation/adaptation but guy didnāt speak greek at all! and it F*CKED! my idol). iām in the middle of cold calls atm. iād recommend the actual iliad but i canāt yet because iām terrible, glossed it until i got to the river fight scene and havenāt gotten around to my reread, though i like caroline alexanderās translation a fair bit from what i remember. anne carson has loads of really good stuff but iām biased bc autobiography of red cracked my head open and drank the meat the first time i read it. Floatās a great collection too and has the plus side of looking really pretty in a shelf. also gotta start the euripides play collection i got, eventuallyā¦! will update
#also i follow some intimidatingly intellectual classics students on here and i nod and take notes as they post#about things that i am sixty degrees away from comprehending with my brain#note that these are just things i like personally this is by no means a scholarly guide#also only marginally related. but i have been desperately wanting to play call of cthulhu invictus recently#eldritch happenings!!! in the roman empire!!! BRO!!!#ask

hmmmmmmmmmm maybe iāll write an Introspective Musing Post about my relationship to religion and their depiction in stories because iāve pondering about this topic lately
so for those who are reading this and DONāT know whatās been going on...Ā thereās this webcomic i fell in love with some years ago, about six years actually, that depicts a post-apocalyptic fantasy/horror adventure set in the nordic countries. it had, and has still, some very uncomfortable flaws regarding racial representation, and the creator has historically not dealt very well with criticism towards it. itās a whole Thing. my relationship with this comic has fluctuated a lot, since there are a lot of elements in it i DO love and i still feel very nostalgic about, and like idk i felt like i trust my skills in critical thinking enough to keep reading. aaand then the creator went a teensy bit off the deep end created a whole minicomic which is like... a lukewarm social media dystopia where christians are oppressed (and also everyone is a cute bunny, including our lord and saviour jesus christ). which is already tonedeaf enough considering there are religious people who DO get prosecuted for their faith, like, thatās an actual reality for a lot of people - but as far as i can tell, usually not christians. and then thereās an afterword thatās like, āanyway i got recently converted and realized iām a disgusting human being full of sin who doesnāt deserve redemption but jesus loves me so iāll be fine!! remember to repent for your sins xoxoā and a bunch of other stuff and ITāS KIND OF REALLY CONCERNING i have, uh, been habitually looking at the reactions to and discussions around this, maybe itās not very self care of me but thereās a lot of overwhelming things rn and itās fantastically distracting, yknow? like, overall this situation is fairly reminiscent of the whole jkr thing. creator of a series that is Fairly Beloved, does something hurtful, handles backlash in a weird way, a lot of people start taking distance from Beloved Series or find ways to enjoy it on their own terms, creator later reveals to have been fully radicalized and releases a whole manifesto, and any and all criticism gets framed as harassment and proving them right. of course, one of them is a super rich person with a LOT of media power and a topic that is a lot more destructive in our current zeitgeist, and the other is an independent webcomic creator, so itāsĀ not the same situation. just similar vibez ya feel as a result of this, i have been Thinking. and just this feels like some sort of defeat like god dammit she got me i AM thinking about the topic she wrote about!!! i should dismiss the whole thing!!! but thinking about topics is probably a good thing so hey lets go. me, iām agnostic. i understand that this is a ālazyā position to take, but itās what works for me. i simply do not vibe with organized religion, personally. (i had the wikipedia page for āchaos magicā open in a tab for several weeks, if that helps.) i was raised by atheists in a majorly atheist culture. christian atheist, i should specify. norway has been mostly and historically lutheran, and religion has usually been a private and personal thing. it turns out the teacher i had in 7th grade was mormon, but i ONLY found out because he showed up in a tv series discussing religious groups in norway later, and he was honestly one of the best teachers i have ever had - he reignited the whole classā interest in science, math, and dungeons and dragons. it was a real āwait WHATā moment for my teenage self. i think i was briefly converted to christianity by my friend when i was like 7, who grew up in a christian family (i visited them a couple times and always forgot they do prayers before dinner. oops!), but like, she ALSO made me believe she was the guardian of a secret magic orb that controls the entire world and if i told anybody the world would burn down in 3 seconds. i only suspected something was off when one day the Orb ran on batteries, and another day the Orb had to be plugged in to charge. in my defense i really wanted to be part of a cool fantasy plot. i had no idea how to be a christian beyond āuuuuh believe in god i guessā so it just faded away on its own. when i met this friend several years later, she was no longer christian. i think every childhood friend of mine who grew up in a christian family, was no longer christian when they grew up. most notably my closest internet friend whose family was catholic - she had several siblings, and each of them took a wildly different path, from hippie treehugger to laveyan satanist or something in that area. (i joined them for a sermon in a church when they visited my town. my phone went off during it because i had forgotten to silence it. oops!) ((i also really liked their motherās interpretation of purgatory. she explained it as a bath, not fire. i like that.)) i have never had any personal negative experiences with christianity, despite being openly queer/gay/trans. the only time someone has directly told me iām going to hell was some guy who saw me wearing a hoodie on norwayās constitution day. yeah i still remember that you bastard iāve sworn to be spiteful about it till the day i die!! iāve actually had much more insufferable interactions with the obnoxious kind of atheists - like yes yes i agree with you on a lot but that doesnāt diminish your ability to be an absolute hypocrite, it turns out? i remember going to see the movieĀ ānoahā with a friend who had recently discovered reddit atheism and it was just really exhausting to discuss it with her. one of these Obnoxious Atheists is my Own Mother. which is a little strange, honestly, because she LOVES visiting churches for the Aesthetic and Architecture. we cannot go anywhere without having to stop by a pretty church to Admire and Explore. IāVE BEEN IN SO MANY CHURCHES FOR AN ATHEIST RAISED NON-CHRISTIAN. iāve been to the vatican TWICE (i genuinely donāt even know how much of my extended family is christian. up north in the tiny village i come from, i believe my uncle is the churchkeeper, and itās the only building in the area that did not get burnt down by the the nazis during ww2 - mostly because soldiers needed a place to sleep. still donāt know whether or not said uncle believes or not, because hey, itās Personal) i think my biggest personal relationship to religion, and christianity specifically, has been academic. yeah, we learned a brief synopsis of world religions at school (and i remember the class used to be called āchristianity, religion, and ethicsā and got changed to āreligion, beliefs, and ethicsā which is cool. it was probably a big discourse but i was a teen who didnt care), but also my bachelor degree is in art history, specifically western art history because itās a vast sprawling topic and they had to distill it as best they could SIGHS. western art history is deeply entangled with the history of the church, and i think the most iāve ever learnt about christianity is through these classes (one of my professors wrote an article about how jesus can be interpreted as queer which i Deeply Appreciate). i also specifically tried to diversify my academic input by picking classes such as ādepiction of muslims and jewish people in western medieval artā and āart and religionā when i was an exchange student in canada, along with 101 classes in anthropology and archaeology. because i think human diversity and culture is very cool and i want to absorb that knowledge as best as i can. i think my exchange semester in canada was the most religiously diverse space have ever been in, to be honest. now as an adult i have more christian friends again, but friends who chose it for themselves, and who practice in ways that sound good and healthy, like a place of solace and community for them. the vast majority of my friends are queer too, yknow?? iāve known too many people who have seen these identities as fated opposites, but they arenāt, theyāre just parts of who people are. itās like... i genuinely love people having their faiths and beliefs so much. i love people finding that space where they belong and feel safe in. i love people having communities and heritages and connections. i deeply respect and admire opening up that space for faith within any other communities, like... if iām going to listen to a podcast about scepticism and cults, i am not going to listen to it if itās just an excuse to bash religion. i think the search for truth needs to be compassionate, always. you can acknowledge that crystals are cool and make people happy AND that multi level marketing schemes are deeply harmful and prey on people in vulnerable situaitons. YOU KNOW???? so nowās when i bring up Apocalypse Comic again. one of the things i really did like about it was, ironically, how it handled religion. in its setting, people have returned to old gods, and their magic drew power from their religion. characters from different regions had different beliefs and sources. in the first arc, they meet the spirit of a lutheran pastor, who ends up helping them with her powers. it was treated as, in the creators own words, ājust another mythologyā. and honestly? i love that. it was one of the nicest depictions iāve seen of christianity in fiction, and as something that could coexist with other faiths. I Vibe With That. and then, uh, then... bunny dystopia comic. it just... it just straight up tells you christianity is literally the only way to..?? be a good person??? i guess?? iām still kind of struggling to parse what exactly it wanted to say. the evil social media overlord bird tells you the bible makes you a DANGEROUS FREETHINKER, but the comic also treats rewriting the bible or finding your own way to faith as something,, Bad. The Bible Must Remain Unsullied. Never Criticize The Bible. also, doing good things just for social media clout is bad and selfish. you should do good things so you donāt burn in hell instead. is that the message? it reads a lot like the comic creator already had the idea for the comic, but only got the urge to make it after she was converted and needed to spread the good word. you do you i guess!! i understand that sheās new to this and probably Going Through Something, and this is just a step on her journey. but the absolute self-loathing she described in her afterword... it does not sound good. iām just some agnostic kid so what do i know, but i do not think that kind of self-flagellating is a kind faith to have for yourself. i might not ever have been properly religious, but you know what i AM familiar with? a brain wired for ocd and intrusive thoughts. for a lot of my life iāve struggled with my own kind of purity complex. iāve had this really strange sensitivity for things that felt ātaintedā. iāve experienced having to remove more and more words from my vocabulary because they were Bad and i did not want to sully my sentences. it stacked, too - if a word turned out to be an euphemism for something, i could never feel comfortable saying it again. i still struggle a bit with these things, but i have confronted these things within myself. iāve had to make myself comfortable with imperfection and ātaintedā things and accept that these are just, arbitrary categories my mind made up. maybe thatās the reason i canāt do organized religion even if i found one that fit for me - just like diets can trigger disordered eating, i think it would carve some bad brainpaths for me. so yeah iām worried i guess! iām worried when people think itās so good that she finally found the correct faith even if itās causing all this self-hate. is there really not a better way? or are they just trusting sheāll find it? and yeah itās none of my concern, itās like, i worry for jkr too but i do not want her within miles of my trans self thANKS. so like, i DO enjoy media that explores faith and what it means for you. my favourite band is the oh hellos, which DOES draw on faith and the songwriterās experience with it. because of my religious iliteracy most of it has flown over my head for years and iām like āoh hey this is gayā and then only later realize it was about god all along Probably. i like what theyāve done with the place. also, stormlight archive - i had NO idea sanderson was mormon, the way he writes his characters, many of whom actively discuss religion and their relationship to it. i love that about the books, honestly. Media That Explores Religion In A Complex And Compassionate Way... we like that iāve been thinking about my own stories too, and how i might want to explore faith in them. most of my settings are based on magic and itās like, what role does religion have in a world where gods are real and makes u magic. in sparrow spellcasterās story, xe creates? summons? an old god - brings them to life out of the idea of them. itās a story about hubris, mostly. then thereās iphimery, the story where i am actively fleshing out a pantheon. thereās no doubt the gods are real in the fantasy version of iphimery, they are the source of magic and sustain themselves on slivers of humanity in exchange. but in the modern version, where they are mostly forgotten? thatās some room for me to explore, i think. especially the character of timian, who comes from a smaller town and moves to a large and diverse city. in the fantasy story, the guardian deity chooses his sister as a vessel. in the modern setting, that does not happen, and i donāt yet know what does, but i really want timian to be someone who struggles with his identity - his faith, his sexuality, the expectations cast upon him by his hometown... iām sure itās a clichĆ© story retold through a million gay characters but i want to do it too okay. i want to see him carve out his own way of existing within the world because i care him and want to see him thrive!!! alrighty i THINK thatās all i wanted to write. thanks if you read all of this, and if you didnāt thatās super cool have a nice day !

My thoughts on the new episode of doctor who because I have too many of them. Warning: will be very long and also just for me. You can look if you like I guess.
Oh yeah the weird house. Whatās that about?
Every interraction between the doctor and Yaz is very queer. As in gay, not as in weird.
Huh. Earth. The redcoats are on earth. You donāt say.
MARY!!!
Why does all Chibnall period clothing kind of look the same? In the same way that crystal guy looks just like Tzim Sha really.
I also know where you are because ITāS MARY SEACOLE
Yeah I know
Look at that ugly ass bitch. SONTAR-HA!
I do love these credits though. I can say what I like about the Chibnall era but the theme is a banger.
Cannot remember at all what is happening with this dude.
I love these little triangle dudes. Hope they stick around.
Is that Gallifrey? Was it the Flux, or was it the Master? Who are you, bitch???
Am I meant to understand the flux at this point. Like at all. Even the impact it has on the universe. I have no idea.
Yeah Dan sheās Mary Seacole.
*Horrible histories voice* WELCOME TO THE BRITISH HOTEL
Look Danās new cut him some slack.
I need a parallel between this and both the āpromise?ā āpromiseā bit with Bill and Heather and the eleventh doctor telling Amy heāll find her before she melts.
WHY? WHY ARE YOU HOME? WHAT IS EVEN HAPPENING RN DAN?
Whyās everyone just already looking out onto the street.
This bit gives me big journeyās end vibes. Why do aliens love imposing curfews so much?
Love that theyāve kept the sontaran ship design. Would prefer if they kept the sontaran design, but hey.
Danās parents want to be as interesting as Donnaās family so bad. Iām sorry.
Oh him. We gonna find out what the fuckās going on with him? No? Okay.
How do you define very?
He talks so Victorian. Like really fucking Victorian. Kinda love it.
Triangle!
Yes, what would the doctor do. Bit on the nose, but whatever. You really didnāt have to have her write that on her hand.
Okay but I kinda like the general. Heās one of the best characters this episode thatās probably a bad thing.
This is a war, Doctor. What do you really expect them to be doing? Just waiting to be attacked? I donāt really know what you think is happening.
What does this mean? They never really explain this. How have the Sontarans always been here?
Is this just to point out that Mary is Jamaican? Like, whatās the point of the Doctor pointing out Jamaica on the map? I know Mary Seacole is Jamaican, and if I didnāt it kind of wouldnāt matter.
I love the general. Iām sorry.
The Doctor never actually did any nursing rounds. Would have liked to see that. I donāt know, do something practical.
Yes, we get it, you donāt have to drill into the ground how much of a good person Mary Seacole is. You can maybe do it through subtler means CHRIS?
STRAX! I know itās not Strax, but I didnāt expect the actor to come back.
Oh thatās a proper Sontaran. He knows how to do it.
I miss Strax. I also miss this guy being in like all of it.
I know heās just citing the shadow proclomation to make specifically me happy but also I am happy so...
Oh yeah she was president of Gallifrey for a bit wasnāt she.
Chris can you please stop with your ham-fisted dialogue.
STRAX! Sorry I love him so much.
General! Donāt shoot Strax!
Dan Starkey. Thatās it. I do love Dan Starkey.
Mary where is your hat.
I wish the Doctor did actually act as Mary Seacoleās assistant sometimes (it would be an interesting dynamic) rather than just bossing around a real and historically important figure? Byron just following her around with heart eyes? Fine. Mary Seacole just doing as sheās told and kind of acting as inferior to the doctor? Eh, I donāt like it. Sorry.
WHY? WHY WOULD YOU REQUEST MERCY? THATāS NOT EVEN HOW SONTARANS WORK?
So Sontar-Ho is like a somber Sontar-Ha? I guess I could get behind that.
Oh I kind of thought theyād always been here like in Crimea.
Unrealistic that Dan can remember their name because I still call them dogs.
HOW WOULD SHE KNOW THEYāRE CALLED PROBIC VENTS THATāS A TECHNICAL NAME THAT CANāT JUST BE INTUITED.
Like okay Danās parents are kinda interesting but Chris just keeps adding characters and I kind of just canāt keep them all in my head.
I think I know what triangle means.
Haha lol go on shoot her.
If these guys have some sort of romantic connection Iām going to fuck a bitch up. And that bitch is Chris Chibnall.
Sheās not police anymore, right? Whatever.
Haha you fucking madman triangle.
Mmm exposition time. Oh wait I donāt understand any of this exposition. Kinda pointless then.
Also obviously assigned by the time lords I get it. Controlling time and all that, totally their kind of thing.
Is it treason if youāre not a sontaran. I donāt think so buddy.
Ooh I get it but also itās kinda just confusing okay.
Sontarans are so fucking blind.
Does the Doctor have to do that exact pose every season?
The Doctor has not been using her sonic enough. If you donāt want her to have a sonic, thatās fine! She doesnāt, sometimes. But if itās going to be there can she use it please.
Yeah geez heās fucking ugly can we have better sontaran design please.
I kinda love this guy. āYou deceived my soldierā lol brilliant.
Yeah I think Iām meant to understand what that means.
Is that a third doctor reference? I donāt know, I havenāt seen that one.
Thatās it. Thatās the best line this episode. Probably the best line this series. Probably for all of Chibnall.
Okay but this woman actually shouldnāt be speaking for humanity? Sheās not human and has not consulted any humans on this. The only human who is here should probably be speaking for them, even if heās a fucking idiot.
This random soldier is now called Ross. Fuck you.
Yeah why is there cloth on the sontaran uniforms? That seems like not very sontaran idk.
Wow the doctor did not notice the entire British army behind her huh.
Ah poor olā Ross. Shame he doesnāt get any lines.
Yeah not necessarily Doctor. They might kill him.
The sontarans really need better security. Dan is just a dude. Who is, Iād say, worse than most people would be about sneaking into alien spaceships. Just running across open land and shit.
What is it with Chris and cranes.
Sexy crystal people! Sheās got such a great voice. They both do. Oh my god I love his jacket. I would die for either of them.
This is such a boring scene. People I donāt know are just being shot with no way of fighting back. Great.
Wow really forgot about Mary Seacole there.
HALF A LEAGUE HALF A LEAGUE HALF A LEAGUE ONWARD INTO THE VALLEY OF DEATH RODE THE FIVE HUNDRED knew my English GCSE would be good for something
Okay but Iām actually glad he isnāt dead.
Thatās actually one hell of a dress Maryās wearing I wish we saw more full-body shots of it.
I like to think the Doctor just straight-up murdered that sontaran there
They really need to fix that any human can get through any sontaran door.
That was a very lucky button.
This is tiring. Sorry Chris.
Why do I lowkey love that John Bishop is actually a bad actor.
This is a bad joke and I hate it. Sorry. I know heās stupid but hey.
Dan stop sending dick pics challenge.
Why though? What is the sontaran motivation? I do not understand sorry, other than they kinda just decided they wanted to.
WHO IS USING THIS FREQUENCEEYYYY
I like to think Dan also just murdered a dude there.
I like the wok pun
I also like the ājust looking for the pier headā thing.
Damn these fucking guys. I would do anything for you. Iām falling in love I swear to god Iām sorry.
Wow letās make the already over-shown thing even more obvious. Something you could just show through actions.
Chris stop having a choking fetish challenge.
āany of youā is just there for the no homo.
If you fall in love with Yaz I stg.
These fucking... oh my god I love them.
NO! TRIANGLE! AZURE I TRUSTED YOU!
I think he does, sorry Yaz.
No Iāve been over this heās human he cannot do treason.
They just keep not killing Dan.
*Deep breath* Okay but Dan and dog boy have so much enemies to lovers potential, they have a kind of soulmate thing going on and I know theyāll bond and I think dog boy will die and Dan will cradle his dying body and itāll be strangely homoerotic and Chris why are you doing this to us I donāt want to ship Dan with a dog but youāre leaving me no choice.
THAT LITTLE SMILE IāM GOING TO FUCKING DIE
Yeah we been knew sorry Mary.
General! Woop!
Also need a gif comparison between the doctor needing a pointy stick and Missyās pointy stick.
I love the general
This doesnāt make any sense though. The sontaran in comfinement was resting away from the spaceship. I might just not understand this but maybe I should understand this idk.
Please donāt patronise fucking Mary Seacole like that Chris.
I donāt know enough about horses sorry.
Yaz is your best person Doc fuck off.
WHY WOULD THEY ALL SLEEP AT ONCE
I donāt understand this plan. Iām not saying it doesnāt make sense (it might idk) but I have no idea whatās happening and I think I should? Iām sorry? Chris buddy?
I love the generalās hat.
No idea buddy.
STRAX
I hope Dan carries around the wok the whole series.
This is... this is so gay. I hate this. Why are you gay you motherfuckers.
I swear she cut one pipe and now none of the spaceships have any supplies that was very quick.
I thought his name was Staak.
I do not understand that plan either but that kind of doesnāt matter.
God Sontarans are such bad shots in that one scene.
What does that do? Though? How does that work?
That is just not how fuses work.
Idk maybe the general should blow up all the sontarans. Just a thought. Strax is already dead anyway so.
Is Mary coming back? I really hope Mary comes back.
Sheās actually talking to the TARDIS for once, thatās nice.
DO SONTARANS SHIT THOUGH??? I MUST KNOW??? ALWAYS KIND OF ASSUMED THEY DIDNāT?
I want dog man to be a companion.
Stop being so FUCKING gay.
Oh this is a companion moment. Thing is, thereās loads of recurring characters this series, so Dan isnāt really any more important than any other character, so what really makes him a companion???
FUCKING GAY
Ugh Chris why do you rely on luck so much. I donāt even know if this is luck but the point stands.
No space or time. Because usually thereās like 100 space. And at least 3 time.
Those sexy motherfuckers. Look at that fucking jacket. The passenger can fuck off.
Is the doctor going to end up being a mori or some shit? I donāt like that. That wouldnāt make sense but I donāt put anything against Chris.
Donāt give a shit about her new friend sorry hun.
Yaz will be fine though we know. If she turns out to be an immortal alien or something I would find that very funny although I know that wonāt happen.
Once, upon time? Really? How many plays on once upon a time can you make? I know the other one wasnāt Chris but it was just a bit too recent to do another one.

So I don't know a whole lot about Black Sails, but can you tell me about it? Who's your fave character? Why do you love Eleanor? What are your favourite ships and/or friendships? Any characters you absolutely hate?
RHIA I LOVE YOU RN!! you literally know the best way to distract me lol also I must warn you, that this will be a tad bit long so...
okay so obviously itās about pirates (hence the title), but itās not about just ANY pirates now... but THE infamous captain flint and long john silver! the show itself takes place 20 years prior to the events of the classic novel, treasure island... so the basic storyline of the entire thing (without giving too much away) is it basically revolves around captain flintās treasure and how he came to get it (bc obviously we were all wondering why this damn treasure was so important when we read TI amiright?). those are just the basics... of course the show doesnāt only revolve around flint and silver, but along with many other characters and some historical figures as well (i.e. anne bonny, blackbeard, jack rackham, etc), but the treasure itself basically changes all their lives... whether itās for better or worse thatās for YOU to find out! (also, I donāt like to boast, buuuuut GoT can only DREAM of being just as good as black sails was... and that is a honest to god fact!!!)
ooh boy! my favorite character will always be captain flint aka the most fearsome pirate who sailed the seven seas, but who is also such a complete softie for those he loves cares about... like I cannot stress enough on how much I love him? like he does EVERYTHING all for his truest love and I just cannot??? like can you imagine going to war with an ENTIRE country all because they said fuck gay rights?? (YEAH, IāM LOOKING AT YOU ENGLAND!)
eleanor... my bisexual disaster of a daughter who I love so damn much and would die for (literally)! sheās such an amazing and complex character... and I donāt think I have ever seen a female character as complex as her in the media tbh? like you see her struggle to live in a manās world, while her own father doesnāt give two shits about her bc she was born the wrong gender... like she literally fights and survives in this world... all while battling on who she wants to be... I donāt know if that even makes sense but yāknow? like this young woman... literally, governs a place full of pirates... you know... those people who r*pe, plunder, and kill... the very same people the lords and nobles are scared shitless of? yeah, those people. she literally governs an ENTIRE ISLAND of them and they actually listen to her, because they know well enough NOT to fuck with eleanor guthrie aka the queen of thieves... and honestly I love her for that.
okay, so I love pretty much all the relationships on this show tbh?? like theyāre all so well written and just really good?? obviously, I wish some characters got to interact with others more or at least once, but my all-time favorite ship is flinthamilton(s) bc theyāre just so wholesome and soft and I just want to cry??? as for actual friendships... I absolutely adore flint and eleanor bc he is literally the father she deserved and I will die on that hill... and while Iām on this topic... the show itself could have went somewhere entirely romantic with these two (esp. during the one scene) and they didnāt... and I will always respect the creators for that tbh. bc why have some creepy relationship when you can have a father/daughter relationship with two people who arenāt even blood-related??
PETER ASHE AND WOODES ROGERS (or as @lady-eleanor-vane calls him... woodeshit rogers lmaoo) also douchefreqnse and grandpa but nobody gives a shit about them anymore so.... also, Iām not going to go into too much with peter bc no matter what itāll be a spoiler, but heās a shitty friend is all Iām saying. AND WOODEY HOWEVER... heās an absolute piece of shit human being that doesnāt deserve to live. like you ever meet someone and your gut basically warns you not to trust them bc it knows theyāre a horrible person? yeah, thatās what happened with me on woodes rogers AND BOY WAS I RIGHT. anyway, he got what he fucking deserved and thatās that on that.
#can you tell that i love talking about this show?#bc i'm pretty sure it's quite obvious lmao#somehow-saving-you#answered

I am fucking livid rn I seriously fucking despise online ace folks (not gonna say aspec bc I personally haven't seen aros get involved in this bullshit to the extent aces do and a lot of the time aros are bearing the brunt of terminally online stupidity not causing it) who will make anything mildly related to having relationships without sex about asexuality and/or aphobia. I'm sorry but it's so weird to see a court case about a woman trying to get legal marriage benefits she was denied due to her partner being a woman and their relationship being invalidated bc of the historically misogynistic and lesbophobic "well maybe they didn't have sex" argument and then all of these online bitches speculating about her sexuality so much that they've decided it's a hashtag victory over aphobia specifically.
Asexuals are not inherently homophobic or lesbophobic, but asexuals who ignore systemic homophobia and lesbophobia and make the effects of homophobia and lesbophobia about aphobia are homophobic and lesbophobic. Asexuals are not inherently biphobic, but asexuals who equate aphobia with biphobia are biphobic. And that's not to say something can't be both homophobic and aphobic or lesbophobic and aphobic or biphobic and aphobic, but guess what??? If you're not a lesbian, you don't get to make lesbophobia about your experience as an asexual. If you're not bisexual, you don't get to make biphobia about your experience as an asexual. Shit like this is why I still get anxious about talking about my ace experience irl because there is an overwhelming number of online asexuals who are so goddamn selfish they will make the struggles that other LGBT people face about themselves and by extension diminish the real quantifiable impact said struggles actually have.
I'm not a lesbian. I have no idea what it's like to be a lesbianāconceptually, I understand what it is, but I cannot experience it. I can face hate and vitriol for dating a woman, which is rooted in misogyny and (in my particular case, misaimed) lesbophobia, but I cannot experience the same exact struggles a lesbian does bc I am not a lesbian. I cannot comment on the lesbian experience because I am not a lesbian. Yeah, I have experienced struggles bisexual women face, which have overlap with some aspects of some lesbian experiences since we are all WLW and therefore all face misogyny, due to my experience as someone who is both bi and ace, but I am not an ace lesbian so I cannot comment on overlapping asexual and lesbian experiences or, by extension, overlapping aphobia and lesbophobia. A non-lesbian asexual cannot experience overlap with lesbophobia and aphobia, so a non-lesbian asexual has no fucking business talking over lesbians (including ace lesbians!!!!) and making lesbophobia about aphobia.
There is no world in which talking over other LGBT individuals about prejudices which exist to target other LGBT identities helps combat aphobia. Making lesbophobia about aphobia does not help ace lesbians, making homophobia about aphobia does not help ace gays, making biphobia about aphobia does not help bi aces, etc. Making other LGBT issues about asexuality doesn't help the LGBT community. People who do this are hurting both our LGBT siblings and other asexuals, and for what???? Validation that they're also oppressed????? Asexuality isn't about not having sex or not wanting to have sex, and it's both incorrect by definition and actually aphobic to treat asexuality as wanting sexless relationships or suggest that all sexless relationships are due to one or more partners being asexual. Asexuality is about sexual attraction. That's no different than any other sexuality. It's not about celibacy or sex-repulsion or if you've ever fucked someone before.
And holy shit but I haven't even touched on how this behavior also hurts arosāyou know, the even less represented and understood aspecs. Saying that QPRs are strictly "romantic but not sexual" is literally wrong, not to mention that phrasing excludes aros who, you know, fucking pioneered the term BTW, not alloromantic asexuals who abstain from sex. Looking at two women's relationship that's being invalidated by accusations regarding their lack of sex life and saying "well this is aphobic bc they could be in a sex-free but romantic relationship" is not only lesbophobic but also erases aromantic experiences.
This is very disjointed and disorganized but mother of god it's not okay to invalidate someone's identity or experience just bc the perpetrator is asexual!!!! If it's not okay for the evil cishetallos to dismiss shit like homophobia and lesbophobia then why is it okay when aces dismiss them by conflating them with aphobia????
#venting#asexuality#asexual#ace#i'm absolutely apalled by both that twitter thread and the tumblr post with >20k notes#absolutely disgusting#like#i cannot even express how i feel#without the efforts of other lgbt communtities before us we would have fucking nothing!!!!#gay and lesbian elders didn't just bleed for themselves they bled for all of us. we all have fucking rights bc of them#i can love another woman and not be breaking the law bc of them#i owe the queer community so much#i owe the gay and lesbian and bisexual communities everything#and to see other asexuals hurting other communities like this let alone other asexuals#i#idek it just makes me sick#we wouldn't HAVE a fucking asexual community without their communities and their struggles to be treated like human beings!!!!!#like how can you talk about how you as an asexual have been invalidated all your life and then you go and invalidate other experiences#personal

*deep sigh* pan means regardless of gender and bi means two or more genders. People who are pan arenāt all biphobic or think that being bi is transphobic
*deep sigh* its almost like.... ive already expressed my opinion on these very specific talking points and you should actually read the posts i link in my pinned post AND carrd. ill help you out though bc im bored and dont have much else to do rn. adding a read more i HOPE works but knowing tumblr who knows. sorry if it doesnt
hereās my own words on the matter (taken from this post):
pansexualitys shiny new definition that many people cling to is that pansexual is attraction to all genders. bisexual is two or more genders.
which. frankly? doesnt make any sense. my guess is that its supposed to be inclusive of nonbinary genders and those a part of cultures who historically have not had a binary gender system in the first place. i cannot speak for the latter group, but as a nonbinary person, its not inclusive. anyone can be attracted to nonbinary people. literally anyone. theres no way to know if everyone you meet is nonbinary or not. whether or not a nonbinary person reciprocates those feelings and is interested in pursuing a relationship is completely up to the individual, regardless of the sexualities of the people involved.
bottom line is that you cant number the amounts of genders someone can be attracted to, thus rendering those definitions pointless. people can be attracted to all kinds of people regardless of gender, even if they are gay, a lesbian, or straight. all people can date thousands of nonbinary genders if all people involved are interested and comfortable with it. numbering the genders you can be attracted to diminishes the post of nonbinary, as it is not a third gender, it simply any experience not fitting within the western concept of the gender binary
i also discuss a LOT in that post that i think the pansexual LABEL is biphobic and transphobic and using it is furthering that BUT that doesnāt inherently make every pansexual person transphobic and biphobic. heres something else i think is relevant from that post:
pansexuality was started as a way to be trans inclusive at the expense of labelling bisexuality as transphobic when its not. transphobia is everywhere, and bisexuals are not exempt. instead of working on the transphobia within the community, the creators of pansexuality decided to remove themselves from it to create a better and less tainted word and community, and the fact that pansexuality is intended to replace bisexuality or leave it for the transphobes goes to show a few things. pansexuality and bisexuality are inherently linked because the pan label is in response to the bi label. due to its origins, it is inherently competing with bisexuality and it cant be āreclaimedā from its biphobic roots. pansexuality is not a whole, separate, and valid label. its a biphobic response to issues within the bisexual community.
and oooooone last thing from another ask i answered here if it matters:
basically i think iding with a transphobic label is inherently a singular transphobic action that doesnt make the person transphobic by itself, but is still a transphobic instance.
bisexual organizations and history do not reinforce the notion that bisexuality means ātwo or more.ā this was completely made up to justify pan and bi being recognised as separate sexualities. and it just. doesnt make any sense if you arent looking for a reason to support pansexuality?? heres a short post discussing the ātwo or moreā definition.
another long pansexuality post from ares catboyqrow ridley.... time to pack it up boys.
