a/n: i caved and did an actual Ewan fic! Given that the lad is more of a public persona nowadays, I reckon it's fine (?) This is pure self-indulgence for all my Ewan loves. May have a continuation but idk for now, enjoy!!

The reader and Ewan are paired for press interviews. Despite barely having any scenes together and only knowing each other in passing on set, the chemistry they share cannot be denied...
Your first round of press takes place in a primped up hotel suite in Paris, thanks to the team at HBO.
You are an up and coming actress, much like some of your costars in the show, but the pressure is heavier on you because you were entering in season two, whereas everyone was already well-acquainted with one another.
Your few scenes were mostly with Jace and Baela, so you grew close to Harry and Bethany.
However, the media team decided to pair you up with Ewan for the day. A little fun initiative was set by the team that a character from the Blacks would be do press with a counterpart from the Greens - hence, yourself and Ewan.
You're nervous as you walk down the hallway, unable to fully pay attention to the instructions your lovely assistant gives you.
She tells you about the different interviewers for the day, bloggers and magazine writers from all over the world. She reminds you that each one will only be for a maximum of 5 minutes, so it shouldn't be too complicated. She smiles and eagerly says, "Take a deep breath, you got this!", as you reach the suite doors.
But in your mind, all you can recall is your first interaction with Ewan, almost a year ago right after the table read. You had nervously blurted out to him that Aemond is your favourite character, after he just asked, "How are you?". He laughed, said thank you, before he was pulled away in conversation by Tom.
You pray to the fictional Westerosi gods that things will fare better today. That you won't get all tongue-tied when those steel blue eyes land on you.
Upon entering the room, the team is quick to fuss over you. Sometimes you forget that you're actually an actress now. A celebrity, some might say. It all feels surreal and you have a inkling it won't ever stop being this way.
Ewan is already seated in front of the camera, and he stands to give you a hug as you finally walk over.
"Hey there, how are you?" he smiles widely, smelling like cigarettes and something muskier as he wraps his arms around you.
Unroll your tongue. Rework your brain. Calm down.
"Hey, Ewan!" you respond. "I'm doing great, happy to see you again."
"Well, I only wish we could have had more time together on set." Ever the gentleman, he gestures for you to take your seat before he does the same. "But next season perhaps? Who knows?"
"Oh, sure." You settle in, pleased by the fact that your chairs are only about a foot apart. "We can both look forward to my character giving Aemond the arse kicking he deserves."
He laughs, eyes glinting with mischief. "Come on now, I was thinking our characters are actually quite compatible, no?"
"Well, I sure wouldn't want to step on Alys' shoes. She'd probably curse my character all the way to Yi Ti."
"Hmm," he hums, biting his lip. You can't help but hear Aemond when he does that. "I say you can always count on Aemond and Vhagar to come to the rescue of a beautiful maiden such as yourself."
Well, you'll be damned. Ewan, while still an introvert of his own sort, is as charming as can be. If he's turning it on to get himself hyped for the press, it's working.
It's definitely working on you, to say the least.
The media manager gives the signal for the first interview to begin, and a reporter walks in, all ready with prepared script in hand.
"Here we go," you mutter, facing forward.
"Good luck," Ewan replies.
You both shake the reporter's hand, and he introduces himself as Jared.
"So guys," Jared begins. "Why don't we start with you telling me a little bit about what we can expect from your characters this season?"
The question is easy, and it doesn't take long for you and Ewan to think it through. Jared asks a few more basic questions, before drawing the attention more to you.
"When you watched season one, did you have a favourite character?" he asks you.
You smile, "Oh, I mean, I have to say - and Ewan already knows this, by the way - that Aemond was my favourite character."
"Was?" Ewan says, feigning shock. "Unacceptable."
"Was... Is... " you shrug, rolling your eyes playfully, earning a laugh from Jared. "I think I might be more a Daemon girl now."
"Oh!" Jared exclaims happily. "Does Matt know about this?"
"I'll be sure to tell him - "
Ewan interjects, shaking his head at you, "There's no need to tell him, because I'll convert her back to Team Aemond in no time, trust me."
"Daemon is awesome, though," you say to him, smiling.
"Sure." Ewan makes a face like that fact doesn't matter. Wasn't he the one who said that Daemon would be the character he would most like to play if not Aemond?
"And Caraxes is my favourite dragon." You share a look with Jared, hoping he would agree.
"Yes!" Jared says. "Caraxes is the best dragon in the show, in my opinion."
"Ah, you're both wrong," Ewan says. "My Vhagar is the oldest and baddest dragon in all of the land."
"My Vhagar, he says," you joke. "Seems like someone still hasn't shed Aemond for this press tour."
"And I never will, darling." His gaze is intense when he turns to you, and you clear your throat to fight the warmth rushing to your cheeks.
"Alright, they're giving me the wrap-up," Jared thankfully breaks the tension. "It was a pleasure talking to you guys, congratulations on the new season!"
One interview down, and your nerves have already considerably subsided. Ewan tapping your arm to start up a conversation once more surely helps in distracting you.
In the best damn way possible.
"How do you think we did? That wasn't too bad, was it?"
"I think we did quite well," you casually offer a high five, but your heart skips a beat when Ewan interlaces your suspended hands for just a moment.
"I'm glad they paired me with you," Ewan says, after releasing your hand. You hold on to the armrests to keep your fingers from twitching.
"I am, too," you admit. "I am a fan of you, after all, but I think you already know that."
He blushes, "Well, that's not a bad thing. I think you're a fantastic actress. I must have seen your first film a good ten times."
"You mean my first and only film," you add humbly. "But thank you."
"Only film for now," he affirms. "No doubt this is only the beginning for you, darling. With your talent and your charisma, I'm sure you have potential scripts piled up already."
"I could say the same for you! Have you seen what your fans say about you online? You're the internet's new boyfriend, Ewan Mitchell."
The media manager announces the next interview, but Ewan follows up with a response for you under his breath, "I have seen some things. But when I have a girlfriend, I'll make sure she won't have to share me at all."
Oh, so apparently he is single. But wait - why is he telling you this?
You don't get to mull over that thought. For the time being, the next interview starts and you make sure you do a good job at what you're paid to do - promoting the series.
Not daydreaming about getting with a costar, for heaven's sake. Stay professional.

You feel lightheaded after finishing the seventh - or had it been the eighth? - interview.
Your assistant delivers a coffee to you during the twenty-minute break. Ewan had stepped out to the balcony to have a smoke, leaving you alone with your thoughts.
He certainly is everything you expected him to be, and so much more. Insightful, cheeky, dedicated. An artist, through and through. He was in the business for all the right reasons, passion and respect for the craft.
If he had any flaws, you weren't privy to them yet. If there are any reasons for you not to be attracted to him, you didn't know what those were yet.
And with every flirtatious remark and pointed smile, you can't deny the hope blooming in you.
"Hey," he reappears, pulling you out of your musings. "I hope you don't mind that I smell of smoke."
No, you didn't, not when it's him.
"Don't worry about it," you reassure him. You tilt your head forward to take a sip of your coffee, but a lock of your hair falls in front of your face. Annoyed, you think to reach for it, but Ewan beats you to it, tucking it back in place.
"There you go, darling," he croons, gesturing for you to proceed in drinking.
"Th-thanks." His eyes don't leave yours as you take a slow sip.
"So," you say, desperate to break the silence, "which interview did you enjoy the most so far?"
"How can I possibly choose? I mean, I really liked the one with ComicSociety, the guy that said our characters have a lot of chemistry and should get together next season. He's right, I already told you!"
"Ohhh, sure, that will go down really well with the Blacks and Greens."
He smirks, "I don't see why not?"
"For one, Aemond is ensnared by Alys, and my character will never give up fighting for Rhaenyra. I just don't see it happening, Ewan."
"Right," he mutters thoughtfully, "there is still Alys in the picture."
"Still in the picture? With the amount of steamy scenes you two have lined up for season three, I'd say she will be Aemond's entire picture in and of herself."
"Hmm," he glances at you once, then looks down. Dare you think it, does he look disappointed?
"But hey," you add lightly, "maybe we can talk to Ryan and he can flip the entire script just for our characters."
"Yeah," his cheeky smile resurfaces, "maybe you can take Alys' place."
Take the place of Alys? Of Alys. Is he insinuating...
"Next round of interviews, guys!" The media manager announces to the room.
"Here we go again, darling," Ewan squeezes your hand once, before putting on his professional face once more.

By the end of it all, not even caffeine can perk you up. You were exhausted, you and Ewan having finished four full hours of press.
Your assistant comes to your aid, ready to direct you back to your own hotel room.
"This has been such a pleasure, Ewan, really." You stand, this time initiating the hug.
He squeezes you gently, humming in your ear. When you pull apart, he says, "I honestly wouldn't mind trudging through hours and hours of press with you."
That's sweet of him. You're too tired to mask the warmth that rises to your cheeks. "And I feel the same. Today couldn't have gone any better."
"Truly, and listen, maybe we could - "
"Ewan!" The manager approaches. "I'm so sorry to rush with this, but we need to film just a quick soundbite with you for Aemond. Just two to three questions for the Max Tiktok account?"
"Oh, okay - " Ewan is reluctant to turn away from you.
"Perfect! If you could just stand there by the windows please..." The manager already has him by the arm, directing where he has to go.
"We have to go," your assistant says. "Still have to prep for tomorrow."
"I'll see you soon, Ewan!" you call out to him. "Thanks again."
He gives a half-hearted wave, dejected as he watches you walk out of the room.
"That wasn't too bad," you share with your assistant as you enter the elevators. "Not bad at all, actually."
"Oh, you did so well," she compliments. "It definitely helps with the press that you and Mr. Mitchell have such insane natural chemistry."

In the calm of your hotel room, you get ready for bed.
Just when you're about to finish with your nightly routine, your phone rings from your bedside table. You're quick to rush over, thinking it could be your assistant or your manager, with an urgent update about work.
But no - it's an unknown number. A UK number, as it appears.
Confused, you click answer anyway, putting it to your ear with a tentative, "Hello, who is this?"
"Hi, darling."
"Ewan?"
"Yeah, uhm, I hope I didn't disturb you - "
"Not at all," your answer comes out in a rushed breath.
"I also hope you don't mind that I got my assistant to ask your assistant to give me your number? It's what I wanted to ask you before you left today."
"Oh." You feel fully awake now, by some miracle, butterflies finding home in your stomach. "I don't mind. I... I should have given you my number, anyway. I have most of the cast's, in case I need to get a hold of you guys."
"Hmm, right," he says from the other end. You hear him calmly breathing, the sound strangely comforting, and wonder if he can hear the same from you.
He says, "I just wanted to keep hearing your voice. Didn't get enough of it today," and your heart just about stops.
"Oh. Okay," is all you are able to respond with.
"What are you doing?"
"Just... just getting ready for bed." Phone pressed to your ear, you shuffle around the room, putting some things back in place.
He says nothing for a few seconds, but you still hear his breathing, and some shuffling in the background. It occurs to you that he might just be as nervous as you are now.
Maybe.
"Listen," he finally says, "do you want to hear my pitch to Ryan about why our characters should get together next season?"
A genuine laugh escapes you. He sure is persistent. Playful, sure, but you're definitely willing to play along.
"Let's hear it."
"First," he says, "you have to renounce Daemon as your favourite character - "
"Not a chance."
" - and swear your love for Aemond."
"Keep dreaming."
He laughs, and you can only picture the corners of his eyes crinkling.
"Aww darling," he teases, "don't you love me?"

Can you do a Clark Kent x reader having to deal with working at the daily planet and Lois vying for him even though he only has eyes for you. He loves your brown skin and different styles you rock. I’m a black reader so thank you for sharing your writing.
imagine clark as your coworker
Swallowing thickly as you leaned your head on your fist. Huffing out a sigh, the continuous ticking of the clock, footsteps of your coworkers and the chattering from the Daily Planet News Channel are all pounding on the inside of your skull. You pushed your glasses up higher on the bridge of your nose as your eyes scanned over the rough draft for the next column. You absolutely hated proofreading, such a tedious and straining job for your eyes. All the overstimulating noises not helping.
And of course a bumbling fool had to prance his way to your desk. You heard the knock against the cubicle but you hoped your hair was big enough to drown out the noise.
"Yes? Do you need something?"
A small corporate smile is plastered on your face as you glance up at the familiar man. A soft glance hiding your underlying annoyance by the intrusion. Looking behind the man for a quick moment, you see two spectators focusing on this interaction.
"I haven't seen you around this floor before. I was thinking we could grab some coffee. I could show you the ropes."
Pupils flickering back to your coworker in front of you, your eyes drop. From a friendly and warm aura to pure annoyance. Inhaling through your nose and out your mouth, you flash a quick smile. The classic white man burden scenario.
There is truly only one way to clarify and shut down this run in. You've tried a number of different approaches but this one seems the most effective...and the most fun. "I've been working here for three years."
You don't know what was more ironic about the setting: your deadpanned voice, his rosy cheeks or his curt nod and awkward walk away. You bathe in watching the confidence drain from a mans face. The shocked look from the somewhat new information and the simultaneous switch from your corporate personality to your regular 'no bullshit' attitude.
You don't understand how a new hairstyle was an indication of being a whole new person. You still had the same face. Maybe that was all white men logic, you thought. But that was an unfair stereotype. There was one man you knew of that noticed. He noticed practically every minuscule thing about you. A tall, stereotypical, blue eyed, dark haired gentleman. He was sweet and sort of awkward but so very easy on the eyes.
"Hm? Oh, no. I'm not going home for the holidays."
The simple question, set the scene for what Clark would ask you next. He waited to get you in the break room alone to ask and clearly you thought nothing of it. But before he could follow up.
"I love going home for the holidays!"
An interruption. You gave a small smile to her but he sighed.
Lois.
Always annoying. Always showing up at the wrong time. Oh, how he hated when she'd simply...'pop up'. Clark pushed up his glasses as he still kept his gaze on you. Refraining from saying anything that would create an awkward situation for you.
"No boyfriend either? I assume."
You only chuckled at the question and he sported a calm smirk. Ignoring the ugly cackle in the background. You provided him all the correct responses. No holiday plans? No boyfriend? He had another question in mind but Lois was continuously interjecting and talking over you. So much so that he couldn't get a second to ask you directly.
Talking to Clark for one more moment, you glanced to the side and notice your other coworker come up to your desk. Excusing yourself from the conversation, you hurriedly leave the break room and met them. He watched the way you stride around your desk in that pencil skirt. Your low heels adding a particular sway to your hips as you leaned over and flipped through flies on your desk. You bent over just right, enough for him to have a peak at that scandalous bra you wore and as if on queue, she speaks.
"Finally! We're alone. So, I was wondering if we could-"
The moment she closed her eyes from immense nervousness, he bolted. Anyone could tell he had zero interest in that overzealous woman. Anyone but her.
It wasn't long until Clark found you again and you were flipping through more papers. He always admired how hard working you were. How you'd apply yourself to everything you did. It was inspiring. It makes him think of how you would be if domesticated. A terrific mother, he thinks. And probably an even better wife.
"Clark?"
Your soft voice snaps him out the thought and he perks up.
"I don't mind it. I'm just not that seasonal. Compared to you anyway."
Like he gives a damn about what you'd be wearing.
"That won't be a problem. Look as pretty as you do and that'll be seasonal enough."
He could feel his stomach flex at the smile you give him. His cock stiffening in his slacks as his eyes scan over your facial features in the sweet moment. Even though he was fully engulfed in your laugh and grin, he still had many things to take care of.
The nuisance. That passive aggressive and flirty coworker. And lastly you.
He needed you.
He needed you so much more than life itself.
He needs you full of life and his seed.
He needs you to be his wife.
But he can wait one more Christmas before making that happen.
At least. He hopes he can wait. Because if he see's you with those beautiful braids, he doesn't know if he can resist the scene of fisting them while he pounds into you from behind.

how i do my visual novel filtered photo backgrouds
ive had some questions about this so i figured i'd put together a quick post on my process and what goes into it.
this isnt really a tutorial and instead is just a ramble of how i do stuff with a ton of examples and pictures lol
read more below. this is a long post and you probably want to be looking at these images on your computer instead of your phone
step one is that i find CC0 photos or otherwise easy licenses to use because I'm lazy and don't want to have a list of credits of random photographers caue i used one of their images but also i don't want to use stuff without crediting
because they have a general lincese that just wants you to mention the site i prefer unsplash or pixabay but there's other public domain type photo sites too obviously
so like okay heres a random picture
i have a photoshop CS5 from 10 years ago. but these can be done with gimp or krita and whatever. theres even photopea that has photoshop in the browser
basic stuff is that i start by cropping my bg into my renpy resolution (i use 1920x1080) this is also the part where sometimes i might rotate a bg. it is a good way to add some chaos vibes to a scene
i tend to add some mild blur effect since i find that having too sharp photos as backgrounds clashes with the artstyle of my sprites. like just a couple pixels worth of blur tends to do it
the next part is called fuck around and find out
i like to play with the values to just get random results. hue/saturation for tinting the picture, messing with the curves to get some really sharp effects, or channel mixer to add more of a color
this part is just purely vibes based but i personally think reducing the colors of the background is the simplest way to create something that feels coherent. especially if you make backgrounds based on moods. like having a blue tinted bedroom vs a red tinted one really changes the atmosphere
you can get some pretty intense effects but its always important to remember that its meant to be a background and there's a risk it distracts from the sprites
in this case im not including the effect for the curves. after the colours look fine the final step i tend to have is apply some sort of effect.
i really like changing the colour mode to indexed colour since i like crunchy pixels. (had to zoom in to 100% to show the actual effect) downside of indexed is that it doesn't look ideal unless its displayed in the exact resolution it was made in but i like it

another thing ive been playing with recently has been grain+chromatic aberration combo. it makes things feel surprisingly lively with just this simple thing so you'll probably see me overusing this effect in the future
you have to mess with the numbers to get the effect you want but for me these were the parameters I've been using
ignore the preview missing idk why it does that.

one random special mention i have is that playing with layer blend modes is great
in this example i just copied the same background, mirrored it horizontally and set the layer blend mode to color and it lowered the layer opacity slightly. it just adds some.... idk what to call it visual noise? itj just fucks it up a bit. i used overlapping images and screen modes in some of the hopeless junction images i did for some pretty nice effects
i dont really know waht the blend modes do i just scroll until something looks good lmao
theres a ton you can do with these. like for example just adding a single air brush dot of a bright color on a separate layer and setting it to some blend mode to add a tint to a background
i used these both in malmaid and in the second one i just brushed on some color on a separate layer to give it a moodier vibe
i think having variations of the same background is an extremely easy way to add some life to the bgs without having to do new stuff. like here was the hotel lobby when entering, and here is the hotel lobby when they ran away from the place. i added a radial blur with photoshop
i think theres some beaty in artifacts that come from low resolution images too. sometimes i intentionally use images that have clear compression artifacts cause i think it looks neat. i don't really worry about the details too much as the vibe is the most important thing
its honestly just a matter of knowing these tools exist and just fidgeting around with combinations to find what you want. it also helps to look at other backgrounds or images in general that you come across and just be curious. how was this done? how could i recreate it? that's the type of experimenting that has led me to these.

Just saw the extended animatic that was originally meant to end V9 and is now gonna get repurposed into the (possible) V10.
Let me just say, I still feel the same about the things I saw in the first animatic. I can now firmly say that Qrow has been replaced with a doppleganger same as Blake (I wonder if it's like a partial possession thing in this case where sometimes it's Qrow and sometimes it's the faker.) I hate the dumb Winter scenes about how disappointed she is that poor people aren't nice enough to her billionaire blue blooded mother in her silly little sunhat. I have no idea what the hell Raven is doing there. The 'Remember Her Message' thing is stupid because of how poorly done Ruby's message to the world actually was and what little impact Team RWBYJNOR has actually had on the world at large. And I still want to see Whitley without Willow for three point five seconds. And I'm still wondering why the presence of an army in Atlas was a sign of pure evil and was immediately seen as a horrifying threat but seeing an army in Vacuo is meant to be a sign of peace and hope.
But also, now I have more to say.
Like first of all, I'm even more confused on how Remnant managed to pull off any sort of army now that we know what remained in Vale after the Fall of Beacon got decimated. Where are they getting their army? From Mistral, where we know Leo had all the Hunters killed? Are we meant to assume that the people that showed up from Mistral are the cops Blake called on the White Fang? Or, maybe from Argus, even though we're meant to hate Cordovin and the Atlas military that was there? Second of all, this makes me even more annoyed at Winter for being like 'if my poor martyr sister could see how badly we're doing, she'd be disappointed,' Winter get realistic goals challenge 2024. Third of all, Team SSSN and CFVY made appearances and if I ever have to see Coco "based on a nazi" Adel ever again, it'll be too soon, but I still insist that it should've been just Sun, Neptune, and Velvet because none of their other teammates got enough focus in the actual show to be real characters. They could've been casually name dropped off-handedly and it would've been fine. Speaking of teams making reappearances, Neon is there, which means she didn't die in the Fall of Atlas and likely her teammates didn't either, but they had better have a full explanation in V10 for how soldiers on the field got back to the city and threw the portals, and it's weird that we saw Neon but not Flynt. Also can I just point out that "the people who were colonized by Atlas are being aggressive to innocent Atlas orphans and need to be told off" is a writing choice the writers didn't have to do, and considering all the whole history with RWBY and bigotry, I don't know why they did that. Neon and Nora had a moment though, and I was like... Ship material? Also, Tyrian and Mercury are working with the Crown, but... To be honest, if they don't scrap that in V10 (if V10 ever comes,) I'm gonna question their decision making even more, because they just did a new location with a new villain and it proved that this late in the game it's hard to set up or properly execute new threats, and if V10 ever comes out, it's a high probability that we're not ever getting a V11. So if you ask me, if they don't cut out the Crown, they're either gonna badly execute these new bads because they expect their fans to do homework to understand the main show, or they're gonna spend way too much focus on establishing them and the Mains will get sidelined again. Merc looks like a mess, though, and this would make me think a redemption arc is a-coming except that they're pressed for time like I said, so I'm not counting on it. The fact that I have to see Peter Port of all characters is also making me want to say a lot of bad words. Like I cannot emphasize enough how much I hated seeing him and his stupid face and how much I wish he'd never existed. What is this choice to not have the serious potential mentor character who had been part of Oz's inner circle come in and instead having the comic relief teacher who blathered about testosterone and flirted with an underage student be the one to break what should be devastating news that should by all rights get a lot of focus? And where the heck is Tai in all of this? Rip to Oobleck, but out of everyone from the Vale seasons, I would not have picked either of these men to bring back, I'd have brought in Tai and Glynda. It's just a bad choice. And still no sign of Maria and Pietro, so like... What the heck?
All in all, I thought before that I couldn't have less hope for the future of RWBY, but whoa buddy this extended animatic proved me wrong.

since animation is literally your major, is there any details from the Sonic X Shadow generations clip we saw today that you might want to talk about?
OK SO major spoilers under the cut for the preview of the Sonic x Shadow gen prolouge
i was WAY too busy fangirling to give a proper analysis BUT when it does come out fully i might just do one, also please take note im still in my second year of studying to be an animator so these are purely my opinion. for now i can point out a few things that i genuinely want to talk about.
first thing that stood out to me was that 2D-3D style of animation, definitely something i dont think we've seen be done for the franchise before (correct me if im wrong) and it reminds me so much of RWBY in a way. There were some bits that, to me, looked choppy BUT THEN AGAIN those were the parts that needed to be choppy for emphasis reasons, specifically it was at the start where Shadow is having some sort of break down. its obvious from how choppy his movements are in comparison to the smoothness of the rest of the preview that shadow was genuinely shaking. with that 2D-3D style that choppyness looks janky as fuck but its so perfect for conveying how uptight and bottled up shadow's emotions are. its so hard to try and capture what im saying but trust me its there!!
second thing i wanna point out are the camera angles. they shift so much to serve the dramatization of the scenes and its so ✨JUICY✨like i shit you not, i cant stop staring at the different camera angles and going "oooohhh ahhhhh" and trying to rationalize the reasoning for those angles because HOLY SHIT they're so good and they actually do serve a really good cinematic purpose!! its easy for people to get lost in the changing of perspectives and camera angles but this? oh this does it so good that it actually drives the plot FORWARD instead of it seeming like separate scenes mashed together.
third thing I'll point out is the scene color shifts. when doing something cinematic, ambiance is key. so when the scene shifted from this soft and comforting blue hues
to this eerie red so suddenly with our only warning being a slight shaking of the screen??
that made it such a surprise that it gets the viewer on alert!! a good thing!!!
now i can go on and on about the different colors for each scene but let me just touch up on this one scene in specific:
it quickly goes from hopeful gold/good light to ominous black/no light, very contrasting, which can mean oh so many things... most notably; maria's hope vs shadow's resolve.
fourth thing ill touch up on are the frames where shadow runs. specifically the one where he runs out of frame from maria.
we get almost 1 frame of a model and then...
these frames here? chefs kiss, perfect. showing us just how fast shadow really is, so fast that we the light from his airshoes doesnt catch up until a fraction of a second later!!! even the glow in the doorway changes to reflect that short millisecond split.
fifth thing ill point out and its a small little thing thats making me absolutely rabid:
he fucking glows.
and yeah, sure, you can argue that its bounce light, its most probably is bounce light since its under harsh light conditions BUT if that was the case the glow wouldnt be this vibrant of a shade and it would give an aura and not specifically on his markings. just a little thing i noticed that i will get to screaming about when i post this.
last thing i wanna touch up on is the sound effects. they were just so very crunchy and pared up with the animation style?? oh it was delicious!! i have some issues with the lip sync but then again they were trying to go for an anime/western cartoon hybrid style here so its bound to be off on the lip sync.
anyway, thanks for listening to my silly ramblings, its nothing too impressive just a fangirl fangirling. now if you'll excuse me, ill go scream to the eclipse nation about glowing hedgehog.

“Lady Java’s Tignons” from The Color Pynk: Black Femme Art for Survival by Omise’eke Natasha Tinsley (2022)

Viewing the world through rose-tinted glasses shaped like butterfly wings, edged in rhinestones, and fringed with hanging beads, Sir Lady Java identifies herself to interviewer Pasqual Bettio in 2016: “We’re called transsexuals, basically, because I’m in a trance about my sex.” Born in New Orleans in 1940, Java—who transitioned with family support at a young age—was a mainstay of Los Angeles’s nightclub scene in the 1960s and ’70s. Billed as the “World’s Loveliest Female Impersonator,” she “appeared in shows all over the West Coast with such personalities as Nancy Wilson, Redd Foxx, Lena Horne, Louis Jordan, James Brown, Isaac Hayes, Joe Tex, Ray Charles, B.B. King, and Quincy Jones,” according to the brochure “Who Is Java?”
As she rose to prominence, she became a target for police harassment. In 1967, the LAPD raided the Redd Foxx Club to arrest her for violating Rule No. 9, an ordinance that prohibited trans women from appear- ing in public with less than three articles of male clothing. But when Java—performing in a bikini, bow tie, slim men’s wristwatch, and tiny socks—proved unarrestable, police threatened to revoke the club’s license or to imprison Foxx himself.
Java understood this police harassment as racialized: “We didn’t know of any establishment that was white that they [the LAPD] were stopping [from employing impersonators], but they were definitely targeting me, because I was queen of the Black ones and they feel that they had more trouble out of the Black ones.” Java responded by picketing the Redd Foxx Club (which dropped her act) and hiring the ACLU to mount a lawsuit against the LAPD.
Lady Java’s stage career continued brilliantly through the ’70s and ’80s, garnering positive press from Jet, Ebony, Sepia, and L.A. Advocate. Her career highlight, she tells Bettio, was performing for Lena Horne at a 1978 birthday party that Horne hosted for her “sister Cancerian, Gertrude Gibson,” where Horne enthused to Jet about her interaction with Java: “I had the feeling I was talking to a friend I had known for a long while... I feel sort of... protective [of Java]. I don’t know, because that’s my sign—Cancer—always trying to be somebody’s mama!”
To impress Ms. Horne, Java wore a spangled bikini and towering beaded headpiece whose curving contours—like many of the dramatically draped cloth, carefully sculpted tulle, and angel-wing feather wraps she crowned herself with—recall the tulip-shaped tignons (cloth turbans) made famous by her sister Louisiana Creoles. In an attempt to curb their social and sexual power, in 1786 Louisiana governor Esteban Miró decreed all women of African descent must cover their hair with knotted cloth and refrain from “excessive attention to dress.” But as Carolyn Long notes, “Instead of being considered a badge of dishonor, the tignon became a fashion statement. The bright reds, blues, and yellows of the scarves, and the imaginative wrapping techniques employed by their wearers, are said to have enhanced the beauty of women of color.” When Java turned her three articles of “male” clothing into high-femme sexiness, she followed in the footsteps of these foremothers’ fashion warfare.
Transforming the accessories meant to shame Black women into sexlessness into pure sexiness, Java declares, she chose “to wear beautiful outfits so a woman can be proud of me when she sees me. I don’t dress for men; I dress for women.”
By the 1990s Java was “enjoying a quieter life, retiring and, sadly, undergoing some serious health challenges,” according to Transas City. These challenges include a stroke from which, Java tells Bettio, “I lost a portion of my brain.” During her 2016 interviews with Bettio, her memories and historical records part ways: sometimes in small ways, as when she remembers performing for Horne at the Memory Lane supper club rather than the Pied Piper; sometimes in more significant ways, as when she proudly recalls winning her lawsuit against the LAPD.
“I went to court on it, and I won LAPD. I won the right for Java to work, meaning other impersonators could work also,” she recounts—though in fact her case was thrown out on a technicality. It would be easy to indulge the incoherence of her memories as post-stroke cognitive impairment. But it would also be easy to honor that incoherence as its own kind of freedom dream—an alternative history that translates the sinuous, undocumentable ways that change can happen.
After the publicity of her case, she reports, “They [other female impersonators] say: We’re able to go to work, and we’re all going [to] work the next day, and we’re going to put on the three male articles [of clothing], and they did the same thing I did: socks and the wristwatch and the bowtie if they wore bikinis . . . little bowties, some of them were jeweled.” Isn’t a flock of jeweled bow ties bouncing light off foremothers’ jeweled tignons another kind of win—another something to celebrate? How do we count and commemorate ways rewired and differently wired Black femme senses make a true story truer, more plentiful, more splendored?

The Devil and the Servant
Part XVIII – Hunger for Power
Warning: adult themes, sexual themes, violence, cannibalism, sexual violence (I left this vague on purpose, but it can still be be interpenetrated as rape), sex scene.
It did not take long to find the two cambions that Raphael had spoken of. Having not ventured too far from where they had cornered his lovely, little brat, they were found in the gardens of the Citadel. Such lowly fiends, they, too, were making good use of their abilities to serve in menial tasks. Haarlep did not care to know the ins and outs of their role. They were beneath the incubus, and therefore, they must not disrespect him in any way, shape or form. Having changed his shape from Raphael’s, he dropped the glamours all together. Only within the company of Mephistopheles did Haarlep wear his true face, so nobody that looked at him would know it was him, and he didn’t want to give the cambions any notion of who he was. However, there was something in his instincts that told him that they should fear his true face, that they would see the true fiend that Haarlep was. He was not just a pretty face, after all, and he was not just Raphael’s glamour. He was a fiend moulded from a wretched soul, one that Mephistopheles had hand picked and crafted as his own. A pinch of this and a dash of that, there was no telling what sort of mutt Haarlep was when it came to Mephistopheles’ experiments. His facial structure was not so different from Raphael’s, as if the two of them could have even been related. Mephistopheles had crafted him well, knowing that even in his true form, that his son should not be able to refuse his little gift. Blue eyes glowed as he stood on his hind legs, his tail swaying behind him as he approached the two cambions known as Gaar’nil and Ziirkham. There was purpose in his step, seductive in nature as the incubus made sure to express his pheromones at full strength. “Boys, boys, boys,” he purred, his voice as silky as the satin that draped the House of Hope. “I hear you enjoy playing rough.”
The two cambions turned at the sound of another voice, eyes looking to the creature before they glanced at one another.
“A pretty face,” said Gaar’nil, a red cambion, much like Raphael. Ziirkham was a lighter shade of blue, almost purple, horns that protruded forward from his head. They both had similar eyes, yellow in colour. “To what do we owe such a pleasure?”
“Careful, Gaar’nil, that’s an incubus. I can smell it from here.”
Ahh, so one of them was smarter than the other. Haarlep chuckled. “Careful, amongst the two of you, there may actually be brain.” His tone was catty in nature.
Gaar’nil snarled, fangs showing. “You are but a servant, a sex slave. You cannot speak to us like that!”
Haarlep’s expression was of pure delight, his hand whirling his tail around. “Oh, yes, I have been so very naughty. Please, please punish me,” he breathed, exposing his neck.
Gaar’nil stepped forward, but Ziirkham put his hand to the other cambion’s shoulder. “Don’t. It’s playing games. They are masters of deceit and manipulation. You’re just playing into its trap.” This one was bigger than most. Tall. Lean. Blue. It wasn’t uncommon to have different shades when the creatures were born, but most incubus were more standard in size and colour. They generally resembled attractive humans. There was something off about this one. “We don’t want any trouble, incubus. There’s plenty of treats you can have within the Citadel. Whole lot of fiends and other creatures in there.”
Haarlep pouted, taking a few steps forward until they were just a few inches from the other devils. He could smell the uncertainty that lingered on the blue one, the other one hot and angry—short tempered. “Mmm, your friend is less patient than you, dear. Something fiery in those eyes of his. He wants to teach me a lesson. Why don’t you let him? After all, you two seem to have a penchant for tormenting devils beneath you.”
Ziirkham’s brows knitted. “What do you want, creature?”
“Oh, that’s simple.” Haarlep reached over and drew his black claws against Ziirkham’s cheek, feeling it flush with heat as his pheromones dripped into the pores of his skin. Instantly, the tension that he’d been holding dissipated as their eyes met. “Impero te,” he whispered, smiling sweetly as he patted the cambion’s cheek and chuckled happily. Charmed, the cambion became, now his to command even if the devil couldn’t have disobeyed a higher ranking fiend.
“W-what are you doing?” asked Gaar’nil, though attempting to keep his voice sturdy. He growled, reaching out to push the creature away, but was stopped when a hand gripped his throat and icy blue eyes peered into his, a snarl on the creature’s face.
“You dare strike me? I should turn you into a lemure, you wretched little halfbreed,” Haarlep hissed. “You have touched something that belongs to me, and you have spilled his blood. For that, I shall have your heart.”
Gaar’nil gasped, his hands clawing at the arm of the creature. Oh, shit. This was Raphael’s fucking play thing, wasn’t it? An incubus? No other incubus would be bothered about something like that. Nonetheless, he still snarled in insubordination. He would not be called a halfbreed by some devil that survived off fucking others, let alone one that pranced around in Raphael’s visage. How pathetic! The Archdevil’s son was so in love with himself that his own incubus had to wear his face. Sick, vile creature. “Haarlep?”
Haarlep let out a breathy laugh, changing back into Raphael’s face. “Not so stupid after all,” he grinned playfully, loosening his grip by throwing the devil onto the ground. He slid on the ice of the garden bed, Ziirkham still entranced and charmed, standing there like a pretty doll. He put his hand beneath the cambion’s chin. “I require your presence, little slave. And Raphael requires an audience.”

You loved your sisters. But there were times where the two of them could be a bit…much, especially when they worked together. This was evident by how the two Eternals razed through her closet to sort out her clothes to decide which were to be kept, and which would be discarded. Every piece of furniture or tile on the floor was covered in an array of textiles and patterns as if a hurricane ran through a fabric store.
“Is this really necessary?” you groaned out.
“Yes,” came the two voices in unison.
“Don’t I at least get a say in what I get to keep?”
“No.”
“Can you the two of you at least look at me before you throw everything away?”
“Can’t.” “In the zone.”
“Druig?” you looked over to her brother-in-law for help, hoping that he could maybe talk his wife down. “Do you think you could maybe help me out here?”
The mind-controller Eternal was watching the same scene as his distressed sister, only with a much more amused gaze. He looked extremely out of place in the sea of colors in his ensemble of handmade cotton shirt layers with dark blue linen pants. The only accessories he donned were the ebony wood beaded bracelet Kaety commissioned for him over 500 years ago, along with the golden ring he wore on a chain from their private wedding.
“Unfortunately, Sephia,” he began, “I’m afraid that you’re unable to convince my angel, I won’t be much more help. But you are more than welcome to keep trying. Perhaps in your success, you may convince her to spare me a glance. As much as I adore time spent with our daughters, I feel a bit defenseless on my own.”
It was only when Kaety heard her husband’s little quip that she broke her concentration. She pouted her lips to show her displeasure, but only for a short moment before she crossed the room to embrace the man she’s loved for her entire lifetime. The pure love and adoration that shone in the pair’s eyes made it feel like you were the one intruding on a private moment than the other three in your own room. It baffled you sometimes to witness the pair’s love. It often left you wondering if you would ever be able to have a love and bond as strong as theirs in your future. But after living for over seven millennium, you knew that the odds were not in your favor.
“Feeling lonely, my love?” she asked so sweetly. “How cruel of me to neglect you in favor of someone else.” You rolled her eyes at her best friend’s facetious pity, Kaety loved teasing her husband almost as much as Druig loved teasing her. There truly weren’t two souls more meant for one another than the other.
Sometimes the site of their tender smiles and private laughs made your heart feel a bit heavy, since it hasn’t been long since you realized your own longings for love, especially towards a certain man with silver streaks and blue eyes.
“Sephia is right though,” commented Sersi, “we’re going to need more people to help out if we’re going to sort through this mess out. Are you sure Phastos can’t come?”
“It’s not so much he can’t, but more that he won’t.” Kaety explained whilst still locked in Druig’s embrace as he laid small kisses across her face. “He’s still insisting that the last time he was here, some of the ghosts latched on to him and took residence in his house when he got back.”
“And that claim would be completely out the question, why?” you quizzically asked with one eyebrow raised.
“Because they weren’t ghosts.” Kaetlyn stated in a matter-of-factly tone. “They were hobgoblins. And it’s not like they caused any trouble anyway! Ben and Jack didn’t even notice anything.”
“I still can’t believe that you managed to convince Phastos to let you babysit Jack. How do you explain it to Jack when he sees you do magic, or whenever the twins see something that he can’t?” Sersi asked as she continued to sort through the closet to see what else needed to be discarded.
“Oh come on! You make it sound like I’m incapable of not using magic for everything! I am more than able to not use it for a couple of hours, and the twins are still at an age when they point at something, we can just say it’s their imagination at work. Isn’t that right, my beloved?”
“Of course, my angel,” replied Druig, “but in the defense of our friend, our girls picked up on your tendency to pick up scary strays. Especially the kind who happen to have sharp teeth and a taste for humans.” His aquamarine eyes gleamed in mirth at his wife’s pout.
“How can you say that?!” Kaetlyn exclaimed indignantly as she lightly shoved his shoulder. “You make them sound as if they are no different from deviants, when they are far more adorable and lovable!”
“Only those with your blood will find such creatures ‘lovable,’” remarked your husband who would soothe your piecing gaze with a graze of his lips on your cheek, “my beautiful, beautiful Kaetlyn, Mother of Witches and Monsters indeed.” His last words whispered out so softly as he leaned in to kiss his beautiful wife, a kiss she eagerly reciprocated.
“Alright you two, let’s focus on the task at hand,” Sersi interjected the lovers’ quarrel, “so Phastos is out of the question in terms of helping?”
“Probably for the best anyway,” you confirmed, “Kaety still insists that his style is too much of a homebody.”
“Anyone who owns that many cardigans and sweater vests is already mentally prepared to be placed in a home.”
“But thankfully for us,” Sersi added on with a little gleam in her eyes, “I had enough foresight to predict our issue and already invited someone here to help us.”
“Please tell me you didn’t invite Kingo,” pleaded Druig, “I don’t think I can handle another one of those ‘tea parties’ he and Laoise and Aisling insist on putting on every time he visits.”
“No, it’s not Kingo,” placated Sersi, “but he should be here at any moment.”
She had that look in her eye that matched Kaetlyn whenever she came up with another one of her “ingenious” ideas.
“Um, he?” asked Kaety. “Whomst is this ‘he’?”
And like a stroke of magic, a knock broke them out of their conversation. And four pairs of eyes locked at the sight of a single man with a silver streak in his hair and devastatingly beautiful blue eyes that stood with so much self-importance you could choke on it five miles out.
“Judging by the look in your eyes,” he stated to break the shocked silence, “I can assume that I wasn’t expected to be here?” Whatever he was about to say next died in his throat at the sight of Sephia. The overloading smugness in his eyes softened to awestruck adoration when he took in the love of his life.
Here you stood, healthy and beaming, so different from the pale and tired figure that he had to come to terms with for the past 400 years. Here was Sephia, his Sephia, lively and standing and in good health. You weren't wearing the drab and shapeless dark blue and light gray garments that hid her sinful figure from the crowd. You instead wore a pair of dark blue wash flared jeans, along with a square neckline white floral patterned peasant blouse, paired with antique statement rings and delicate necklace. It was as if you was brought straight from an issue of Vogue in the seventies.
“Ikaris,” you whispered.
“Stars,” he thought, “even her voice no longer sounds as strained.”
Thanos ruined plenty of lives, made a mockery of the Avengers, and wasted 7000 years of hard labor in postponing Tiamut’s emergence with just a single snap of his fingers. But in Ikaris’ mind, all of that was justified if it meant he got to see his flower blooming in all of her rarity, as opposed to withering away in a dark and damp jungle. Half of the universe was gone now, but Sephia was healthy and alive and strong – and that meant even more to Ikaris than failing his mission to Arishem.
On the other side of the room, you stood in silence as she took in the sudden appearance of your friend. Partially in mortification that he was seeing the state of her room in the mess it was in. But a larger part in joy in seeing your friend who long became the man you gave her heart to since the first time he decided to wait outside the commune’s borders because you wanted to show him your garden. But all in shock that he decided to willingly come so close to Druig and Kaet in their home where their children reside far from the rest of humanity.
“Ikaris!” Sersi exclaimed with a tone that convinced no one that she didn’t plan this happening. “Thank Arishem you’re here! Luckily, we’ve already decided to keep everything up to the late 19th century, but from here on out we need to sort through the past 10 decades to make room for a more modern ensemble. In fact, you really do have great timing because I need to go somewhere right now, and so do Kaety and Druig. SO, we will just leave you two alone!”
Silence still rang through the air as one pair could only stare in longing for the other, while another pair stood next to one another in disbelief as one other person was basically shoving out the door. But silence was not for long as Kaety took matters in her own hands as she turned to her beaming friend in trademark green once all three were all out of earshot.
“Sersi, what Lovecraftian fuckery are you pulling right now?”
You stood in one of your favorite Thea Porter’s dresses, trying very hard to calm the rapid beating of her heart, all to prepare herself to once more face the man on the other side of the changing screen. You never expected to see him in your room, still as ruggedly handsome as he would always remain. You never expected to have these feelings for Ikaris- for anyone really- but they grew to the point where by the time you recognized it, you was already in the middle. Feeling your face heat and fluster, you put your hair in a simple and loose braid in attempt to cool herself. Stepping into view, you tried your best to seem calm and collected, but everything inside you felt anything but that.
“This is one of my favorite dresses,” you stated, “what do you think?”
“I think you need to take off that dress and wrap those legs around me so I can take you on every surface of this house in a tree,” was the first thing that came to Ikaris’ mind. But he couldn’t say exactly that, and so all he stated was the second thought in his mind. “You’re beautiful Sephia, you’ve always been beautiful in everything you wear.”
The sincerity swimming in his eyes made you wish you could drown in them. Blushing mad with a shy smile, you did her best to not seem like you wasn’t bursting at the seams from joy at his words. “Ikaris, the only way I’ll be able to get rid of anything is if you be honest.”
“Sephia,” Ikaris replied, “there is truly no one on this planet who could ever compare to you, in radiance and in beauty. I honestly can’t think of anything that wouldn’t look perfect on you.”
“Well, I do have something that I think may change that opinion,” you remarked with a twinkle in your eyes before dashing inside your closet to grab something and once more hiding behind the change screen. “Wait for a little bit, it takes a while to put on!”
After a few minutes of audible struggling, Ikaris was tempted to ask you if you needed any help taking off putting on your outfit, when you announced that you was done and then stepped into view, and Ikaris’ eyes grew wide with horror.
“What the hell is that?”
“It’s a hobble skirt!” you exclaimed, far too amused by reaction. “It was a very short-lived trend in the US from 1908 to 1914. Its popularity declined during World War I.”
“I can see why,” Ikaris remarked, “are they at all comfortable?”
“Oh, not at all. But they did serve as inspiration for the sheath skirts in the 1950s.”
“Sheath skirts?”
“Pencil skirts, I suppose. But it does look awful, doesn’t it?”
“Ugh, terrible. Is this the worst one you have?”
“Oh no, this doesn’t even come close.” You went back to your vintage treasure trove to search for a particularly dreadful ensemble, and what you pulled out could only be described as an antebellum nightmare. “This is my favorite, by far.”
“Oh my-” Ikaris’ hand covered his mouth in horror, “what the hell is that? And please tell me that you didn’t actually commission this to be made for you.”
“You’ll be happy to find out that I did not ask for this to be made for me. It was a gift from the matriarch a very sweet family I was staying with during my travels in 1850s.”
“Gift? Sephia, that’s not a ‘gift.’ That’s a punishment in the form of flouncing yellows, oversized orange flowers, and what I assume to be 15 layers of petticoats.”

Momentary silence echoed between them before a huge grin spread across his face. “That’s it, you need to put that on, right now.”
For the next several hours, the two went through only the very worst contents of Sephia’s closet. From the green taffeta balloon dress from the 80s to the orange ballerina dress that looked it was designed by a ballet-obsessed 8-year-old, they spent the entire day laughing and smiling more than either had in the last five centuries. The sight of it all made Sersi so happy in knowing she had been the cause of this success.
“You know what you’re doing is really creepy, right?” Druig commented, bringing his friend out of her dreams of planning her friends’ future wedding as she continued to spy at the happy almost-couple with Kaety’s magic.
“If watching Ikaris cutely interact with the love of his life through your wife’s magic shadow thingy so that I can get enough pictures for the slideshow I’m making for their future wedding, then fine I’m creepy.”
A soft babble from the babe sitting on her father’s lap prevented Druig from remarking on that “fascinating” idea as he peered down to see his four-month-old daughter point a chubby finger to her mother who was lying face-down on the floor as her sister sat on top of their Mami.
“Sorry little dove, Mummy can’t play right now. She’s in mourning.”

Percy Jackson and the Olympians episodes one and two, immediate impressions
Written by someone who absolutely lived those books as a kid and is no less obsessed with them as a grown up.
I will try to avoid spoilers for anything that comes later in the book or in later books in case people who have only watched the show will be reading this, but there might still be unintentional spoilers and there definitely will be spoilers for how the event of the first two episodes went down in the book.
I have been waiting since before the old movies came out, suffered the disappointment of their existence, was part of the collective agreement Lightning Thief had no sequel and am finally ready to see them try again.
I have just finished re-reading the first series and am nearing the end of House of Hades, so all the book stuff is fresh in my mind.
(I also bough the first five and all five Trials of Apollo for only £12 yesterday 🎊🎊🎊 now my tiny London apartment is flooded with books I already have no space for 🤣🤣🤣 so worth it though.)
Episode 1
- seems lovely so far;
- Percy is perfectly himself and the acting is damn decent;
- Little Percy is very cute, but also sort of spooky, make me think of the ocean, no matter what, there is always something eerie about it;
- Nancy is as awful, as she has to be and it is a nice thought that Percy understands she bullies him because of her own issues, yet also acknowledges it is still not okay;
- Brunner is perfect, they nailed his feel and presence 10/10. Why is his horse part not white though? Come on, it doesn’t have to match his skin tone and would have looked super cool, setting him apart from other centaurs like it does in the books;
- The kindly one (what they call Furies in the book) is well done and properly terrifying;
- Sally Jackson is the star, seriously, she is everything;
- Smelly Gabe is authentic enough to smell him trough the screen;
- Super funny that his reward for letting them take the car in the show is a sandwich he never ends up getting at all. At least in the books he got his dips
- BUT!!!!! Wtf with Gabe saying please? And them watching the game together? Why is he suddenly not that terrible??? How could they have decided to give redeeming qualities to this guy??? He is like the definition of awful and there really was no need to make him better in any way.
Initially I did not particularly notice this, because he was disgusting in my eye, yet upon watching for the second time, I replied he repeatedly said please and his conversation with Sally seemed suddenly more like banter than the awful way he treated her in the books. This gives their marriage something to it and makes it feel like there might have been a reason why they got married other than Sally wanting to protect Percy though Gabe's smell. And that is just wrong. Gabe was absolutely the king of awful in the books and he should have stayed that way.
I felt like I had to go back to add this point, because I missed it in my initial watching when I was writing this immediate reaction.
It can be argued that even the worst abusers are not horrible 24/7 and are ofter nice to the people around them from time to time, which makes it even more confusing and hard to leave them. But this does not really fit to the situation here, Gabe had zero redeeming qualities in the book and I can't see why there would be a need to give him any in the show;
- Sally being firmly on Percy’s side is pure gold and absolute parenting goals;
- Blue candy !!!!
- D’Angelo sandwiches though??? Hmmm…
- “Who is Yantsy?” 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Gabe is so dumb, i love it;
- Hades is not satan, they finally got that right! At least I think that’s supposed to be Hades;
- Can’t stress enough how awesome it is that Percy is not an orphan in the books. His relationship with Sally is everything. It is also a whole lot less lazy than just having an orphaned protagonist and also a lot more relatable for the readers;
- I love the scene where Percy is confused and scared, trying to get her to stop, but Sally keeps talking, as if she knows if she does not say it out loud, she will never be able to;
- Sally: “He was a god.” Percy: “You fell in love with Jesus?” 🤣🤣🤣
- Grover is so funny though, I can’t even;
- The Minotaur cgi looks decent;
- And he is wearing underpants!!!
- Bye-bye Gabe’s car;
- Grover is supposed to be unconscious!!! That’s a major point of his later self-torments, the fact that he got knocked out and Percy had to carry him all the way.
I cannot see why he needed to be present for this scene. He doesn’t do much of anything other than having Sully make him swear to protect Percy, although I am not certain what that was emphasised for?
- Sally is badass! Hell yeah for mothers doing mad stuff to protect their babies, super on point and as someone who does have a baby, super realistic;
- Noooo!!! Sally!!! Proper heartbreaking;
- He did not have the sword yet! Or Grover there! And he fought the Minotaur anyways!!!
It was supposed to be the first sing of his endless courage bordering on idiocy and a serious lack in the self preservation department when it comes to people he loves being in danger.
Which ultimately is a super important point in the story. I feel they missed an opportunity to show just how many fucks are absolutely not given when Percy sees somebody dear to him threatened;
- He does still kill him with the horn, not the sword, so I guess I can forgive the sword being there for a brief second. Although it would certainly add more meaning if it wasn’t;
- Show us how he carried Grower to Camp after killing the Minotaur!!! Percy did it all on his own, no help whatsoever! That’s part of what made other campers so interested in him!
- Annabeth!!! My best girl!!!
Episode 2
- Percy’s eyes are so book accurate, a proper proper sea green, I am happy happy happy;
- And Walker is such a perfect fit for the role, it really feels like he is Percy. I can forgive them for not having someone else, who had dark hair, his casting in on par.
Also I feel like nailing his eyes is more important than hair. They are an important part of the character, a reflection of his connection to the ocean.
I can also completely get behind not immediately wanting to dye a child’s hair, so it’s not that important.
I am personally of the opinion, that unless a character’s appearance is a point in the plot, such as relation to a certain someone hinted at trough similarity in looks/belonging to a certain group/coming from a certain place/being singled out positively or negatively because of certain features/etc, changing it doesn’t matter;
A good example is the colour of Percy’s eyes. It needs to be maintained, as they are a reference to his father being Poseidon and him being a child of the sea;
- The same goes for Leah, she has absolute Annabeth energy and is just perfect every step of the way, so the fact that she ain’t blonde doesn’t really matter. It was not a particular plot point in the books and the change will not affect her character in any way;
(If Elle Woods suddenly wasn’t blonde anymore, that would be insane, in Annabeth’s case, it is not that important.)
- Aww, Percy thinks Poseidon is going to be there at camp, that’s heartbreaking :((
- Peter Johnson !!!
- ‘He’s starting with me!’
- For a moment I thought he was gonna say ‘the wine dude Dionysus’ 🤣 that would hardy have ended well;
- ‘Your Highness’ 🤣🤣🤣 Percy is adorable;
- Mister D pretending to be Percy’s dad and trying to get him to fetch a bottle of wine is sooooo funny, I died. Chiron’s face though… 🤣🤣🤣 ‘I could be!’ ‘But are you?!’
And this:
- ‘Son.’
- ‘Dad?’
- ‘Yes Peter!’
- ‘Percy!’
- ‘Exactly’
- And Percy looking at Mr D and thinking: ‘Mom fell in love with and spoke so highly of this guy? He is basically Divine Gabe.’
I will be anything upon first meeting him in the show and hearing the ‘i am your dad’ thing, that is exactly what Percy is thinking. ‘Oh no, my dad is the Less Smelly Gabe?‘
- The Hermes cabin is looking good, the chaos seems very authentic;
- As someone who had been bullied at school for different from other kids, it is a very touching moment, when Percy is sure the Hermes kids are about to start some trouble, but Luke is just so lovely to him instead.
It is honestly every weird kid’s dream to have someone approach them with something kind to say.
And when he says: ‘you are just like everyone else here’, it must have felt so nice for Percy to finally hear something like that, like there is somewhere he can belong as himself;
- Luke, my sweet tragic baby ❤️ i cannot help loving him so damn much;
His underlying wistfulness and hidden pain from not feeling loved by his dad break my heart into a million pieces. And the way he just older-brothers Percy from the beginning is everything ❤️
- But does this show hate blonde people?
Cause Luke isn’t blonde either. 🤣
Once again, great acting, charisma and that feel of Luke’s powerful awesomeness tinted with desolate melancholy was captured brilliantly.
Charles does have that vibe and is great in the role. But I just had to note the ‘nobody is blonde’ thing cause it’s funny;
- More importantly though, WHERE IS LUKE’S SCAR??? That little scrape he’s got on his face is way too small and insignificant to be the unfortunate trophy from a dragon fight.
It looks nowhere near ghastly enough!
The whole point was that Luke was super handsome, but his scar was there like a tear in a beautiful portrait.
Charles is a good looking fella, he could have easily pulled off having a huge scar running across half of his face and still be a ladies’ dream;
- The Dryad with Grover has such sweet motherly vibes;
- Is it me or do Grover’s goat legs appear somewhat skinny?
- ‘Like an old banana’ Damn, Grover. I feel like this nicely reminds everyone Grover is not the human child he appears as;
- I feel like it is more realistic that Percy comes to believe his mother can be saved from the underworld by himself, since it is pretty logical, if the underworld is a place you can go to, you could theoretically bring someone back.
There didn’t really need to be an ominous investigation conducted by Grover for Percy to come upon that idea;
- More creepy ass dreams;
- CLARISSE MUST BE BUFFER!!!
And here I somewhat don’t get it.
Cause Dior looks perfectly buff enough for the part in pictures online, but it almost feels like they made her look smaller on camera, instead of using filming techniques to make her look even bigger.
All I could think while watching those scenes was “Clarisse must be bigger!”. Why does she look so skinny in the show, when the actress has got proper muscles irl?
- Percy being terrible at everything he tries reminds me of Harry trying the wands out and making stuff blow up
- He set the Hephaestus kids’ stuff on fire 🤣🤣🤣 Leo should have been there 😉
- Is there a god of disappointment 🤣🤣🤣
- But you burn the stuff to send a message to the gods, not mortals or dead people. Burnt offerings are only messages to a god they are offered for.
Did Percy misunderstand this or did the makers of the show?
Cause there should be no way for Sally to have actually gotten that message;
- Burning candy and talking to mama hits right home though. Very painful, peak cinema, hurts a lot. Poor little Percy, he just needs a hug;
- Not from a gutter, Clarisse, what the actual?!?!
- Aaaand Supreme Lord of the Bathroom emerges!!!
I just love how good old Jonny outright refuses to harm Percy.
But does this mean Poseidon is the god of toilet water as well 🤣🤣🤣 what about everything that is flushed with it? Would he have power over that as well? Or only clean gutter water?
Also!!! Is Percy immune to ‘the Neptune’s kiss’?
(‘The Neptune’s kiss’ - is an unfortunate occurrence while going number two, when one of them lot falls down into the bowl with a blast and the water splashes back onto your unprotected buttcheeks.)
Cause that would be a seriously cool ability to have indeed;
- Annabeth!!! Always a win for Annabeth!!!
‘i can explain!’ ‘No you can’t!’
Absolutely chemistry
‘Are you stalking me, Annabeth?’ ‘Yes’
- Forbidden kids… hmm.. that’s an interesting way of putting it;
- Annabeth is Sherlock with better social skills? Hell yeah, Percy can be her sword-wielding Watson;
- Their armour looks so good! Like actually pleasant to look at, you can see effort and thought went into the costumes in the show.
Seeing them all dressed up reminds me of the longstanding tradition at Camp Halfblood of running outside wearing a breastplate and underpants when danger strikes in the middle of the night!
I really really hope they show that in this series;
- Percy should appreciate Annabeth standing there silently and waiting for him to get up, since any other classmate from his past would have made fun of his fall and certainly would not have waited for him to get up.
The way Annabeth reacted is decent between two warriors.
She did not mock his fall, waited for him to get up and made no unkind comments about it afterwards.
She did not help him get up, because he does not need assistance with such a minor trouble, which is something Percy will have to learn very soon.
As someone who has been bullied back at school, sometimes standing there silently is the nicest way someone you don’t know very well can react to you embarrassing yourself;
- I love how Annabeth doesn’t flaunt her being better at stuff in Percy’s face, he is the one who says that in a fit of self deprecation.
The writers could have easily had her say something like ‘of course i’m better’, as happens a lot in modern cinema, when characters boast about how awesome they are instead of showing it.
She respectfully listens to his ranting, then simply straightens out his breastplate, which is such an adorable moment between them my heart is going to shatter into a million pieces.
She then proceeds to tell him ‘you don’t even know how you fit into all this’ , basically saying ‘you don’t know how powerful you are’, but Annabeth is being wise.
She knows there is no point in telling Percy how awesome he could be. She believes in him and knows he needs discover his awesomeness on his own.
(I am currently re-reading The House of Hades, about half-ways trough.
Thus seeing cute Percy and Annabeth moments soothes by bleeding heart.
If you know you know, not gonna spoil an ancient book, ahahahha. )
- Yankees’ cap!!! (I know i am way too easily excited to see stuff from the book, but I was a Percy Jackson fan when the first movie came out and i still carry that damage, so cut me so slack)
- Game on! And she absolutely believes in him and never says anything demeaning, that is so awesome.
There is a trend in modern cinema to show characters’ badassness and awesomeness by having them be demeaning and rude to their companions.
This has been around for a while where the guy who was the best at everything was just allowed to be awful to everybody because of it.
Recent it has infected movies with female leads, as if the only way a woman can be portrayed as strong and capable is by being a bully to lesser men around her.
I love what they did with Annabeth here.
She is spectacular, she’s got a great plan, she knows it, she doesn’t have to repeat it.
But she does not need to be compared to Percy to be amazing, she simply is.
She also has faith in Percy and is supportive of him, without being patronising or feeling the need to over-explain.
She is confident he will know what to do when the time comes and believes honestly he will do well.
She does not tell him what to do because she is sure he will know when the time comes and that is a smart way to teach him a lesson about having faith in himself;
- Luke is so awesome, they nailed him! His faith in Annabeth and the way he says ‘Percy’s on it’ with no doubt whatsoever… i am loving it all;
- Percy is authentically adhd, this shit is so relatable 🤣
Petting that lizard is such a banger thing to do, i mean…
- It did not happen in the books like this, but these are such Percy moments, i cannot even 🤣 the main actor was a top choice;
- Closing your eyes and touching leafs or rocks is something I also absolutely love doing, Percy knows what’s on;
- Clarisse’s spear looks nifty as heck.
While I did complain that she needs to be bigger, Dior is perfect in this role. The casting generally is great so far.
She does portray the big bully energy really well;
- I have enjoyed the fight, although wasn’t Percy only supposed to get his power up after he touched the water? (I most honestly don’t remember)
Here it seems the presence of the river so close was enough and I must agree that it does look awesome when he suddenly begins fighting properly;
- And he falls into the water, heals up and is claimed by Poseidon. Precious!
- I am loving the Poseidon cabin vibes, it is just like the ocean. Beautiful and charming, but eerie and mysterious;
- I do not understand why they had to change it from Percy taking the quest immediately with the hidden idea of saving his mother, to his blatantly refusing the quest, only to have Grover tell him Sally can be saved to sway him to go anyways.
I think this was somewhat of a weird choice, but maybe it will matter later on, who knows.
It does fix up the rift between Grover and Percy with the whole Grover lying and getting him expelled situation, but that wasn’t really in the book at all, so…
I guess they wanted to try and not copy the book word for word, but Percy refusing the quest so harshly out of self preservation we have already established he doesn’t have much of seems a little out of character.
Maybe they are trying to emphasise that he would do anything to save his mom, but even without that, Percy would still have agreed to save the world and all, that’s his whole point.
And he did go with the idea of saving his mother in the book, he just didn't Grover to tell him it was possible, he simply refused to accept his mother was dead and was set on getting her back.
He is not a reluctant hero, he marches head first into danger, risks his life to save the world all the time and eats reality shattering prophecies for breakfast. (If you know you know ;)) )
I guess it doesn’t matter all that much.
In the book and the show he agreed to go on a quest in great part because he thought he could to save his mother, it was just presented differently. But I do feel once again they are diminishing Percy’s badassery.
This sweet and wonderful child doesn't need anybody's permission or reassurance, he simply though: 'Wow, there is my opportunity to go to the underworld, my mother must be there, to hell with Hades, I will make him give her back!"
He basically thought she was dead and still planned on getting her back anyways!!!
As we have seem during the duel with the Minotaur, when given proper motivation (or simply when pissed off and/or desperate enough) Percy is absolutely unhinged.
He takes no shits from anyone, god, monster, or whatever else.
It just feels a bit weird to see Percy Jackson yelling ‘no’ to a quest.
And feels like Percy's determination and intelligence are diminished because he did not come upon the idea of saving Sally on his own.
- Also, since when does Percy have a sense of self-preservation, aahahaha he could have really used a bit more of that in the books
Overall 7/10 so far
One point off for the removal of Percy's grand refusal to accept death and his brilliant sneaky plan to attempt bringing his mother back from the underworld while the quest for the Masterbolt provides a valid reason to go there. Seriously, this was perfectly devious in the books. He kept the idea to himself and simply nursed a plan to basically bring his mother back from the dead all on his own.
One point off for Luke’s scar being tiny. Everything else appearance wise is not important cause the actors are great. But not giving Luke the proper huge scar is a cosmetic decision that I do not condone
And one extra point off for Gabe saying please and having redeeming human features, as well as Sally actually wanting to watch the game with him, I could not imagine she would have ever wanted to do anything with Smelly Gabe, no no no no no
All in all, this is great so far, I need more with urgency.

Digimon Tamers - Volume 2
It turns out this series is super out of print and rare. My library only has the first 2 volumes, so I'll be reading the rest after this one online (if you want to buy it it's like $80-$100 per volume!) It's a little bit of a relief honestly, because the volume that I got from the library is pretty crusty and battered. I think I saw some dried shredded cheese on some of the pages 🤢 Really shows who the audience is.
Ch. 8
This manhua has really bad continuity and no sense of space. Characters will just pop out of nowhere. Culumon is the worst offender, but in this chapter there were a bunch of dramatic scenes between Rika and Renamon and then it just randomly turned out that Takato and Jian were watching the whole time but not saying anything? Riiiight.
I was really confused at the end and thought that Yamaki was saying he created a digimon but it was actually a really clumsy flashback to the original digimon programmers. Confusing panels...
Ch 9
Wow, the Devas arc already, it obviously felt like it took a lot longer to get here in the anime. I wonder if they'll do all the Devas or condense them/do some off screen?
At least one thing that's nice about this manga is that I can take in the Devas designs without them jumping around too much.
Ch. 10
Some of these jokes are flying over my head. Takato tries to name his group of friends "team rock" and he mentions "a skinny guy on TV who talks about the power of positive thinking." I wish they would cut out the unfunny, outdated material and just tell the damn story >:/
Worst boys Hirokazu and Kenta show up to reestablish themselves as part of the party...yaaay
Didn't realize that MegaloGrowmon was called WarGrowlmon in the dub. I guess it is kind of nice to keep the naming conventions more consistent. "Megalo" is sort of a weird prefix (megalomania?)
Ch. 11
I'm still obsessed with Jian's computer that can read trading cards as if they were CD-ROMs. I wish that technology existed!
Two perfect evolutions in one chapter? Pretty rushed but okay...they still looked cool. (Taomon and Rapidmon). I think the Wonderswan card game rot my brain a little cuz when I saw Rapidmon I was thinking about all the option cards I could use with him.
Ch. 12
Other than my fave Antylamon, I think Indramon is the most memorable of all the devas. His design is really unique, he's massive, and he kicks the shit outta Impmon. I like his emo hair too lol
When they realize that Hirokazu's homemade blue card works I'm surprised they didn't move onto a counterfeit card making scheme after that. I just it only works if it was made with pure intentions or something.
Ch. 13
Why is Juri's dub name "Jeri" when "Julie" was right there?
Damn, they really killed any suspense with Makuramon's intro there. In the anime he's presented as a kid at first but here they showed him as a kid but then slapped the name tag "Makuramon" right next to him...
They skipped a bunch because Juri just magically knows that Guilmon exists. They showed Hirokazu and Kenta meeting him, but not her. Oh well, I guess.
Ch. 14
Calling Juri, Hirokazu and Kenta "groupies" is pretty funny, not gonna lie. So accurate.
I like that they're clearly ID-ing each deva as its corresponding zodiac animal. I think there was a little bit of that in the anime, but not as spelled out as it is here. Usually I don't like to be spoon fed, but there's something satisfying about them saying "that's the boar, that's the monkey, etc."

Me again, with another not quite thought through ramble.
As I was watching the Good Omens season 2 opening scene just now (again...) something struck me.
People have commented on pre-fall Crowley being so joyful, maybe even child-like and naive in his gleefulness about the creation of his nebula. And it is truly heart-warming (and heart-breaking at the same time because we know where it leads to) to watch. I love pre-fall Crowley and my heart goes out to him. There's pure joy on his face, and he enjoys just the fact the nebula is there. It doesn't need a higher purpose, it doesn't need on-lookers (like people) to appreciate it. For him, the nebula has worth and beauty on its own. He doesn't need other people to point it out. Even when Aziraphale compliments him saying that "he's done an excellent job" and that he "likes the pinky-blue bit in the corner of the nebula" Crowley appreciates the sentiment, but it's more of a "yeah, thanks but I just want to look at it now and love it!" He's a bit confused when Aziraphale asks about "what it all does", because for him, it doesn't need to do anything. He can explain it, yes, but that explanations stems from a place of sheer joy and love for the nebula and excitement about what's gonna happen. Not from a "this is its higher purpose, so it's useful, and that's why it's great" sort of place. He even entirely rejects the idea of giving it a part in the Godly plan by it showing the people the "inlimitable vastness of the Almighty's creation".
Now let's look at Aziraphale. He could appreciate the nebula (though I do believe, he loved it right from the start because he could see how much Crowley loved it!) but he asked for its purpose straight away, maybe because he thought Crowley couldn't be as happy as this just by looking at something beautiful. Aziraphale needed to know what it did. Why it might be useful.
In the present day, though, that has changed fundamentally. Aziraphale enjoys food (which isn't in any way "useful" to him), he enjoys music (sole purpose of music is to entertain, convey and elicit feelings but sometimes I wonder if "pre-Crowley's-fall-Aziraphale might have found music a bit pointless) and he collects, reads and loves books (again, entertainment, feelings, but also knowledge - something that probably wouldn't exist without Crowley tempting humans...).
It just made me think how much Aziraphale has changed. During the Job minisode we could witness how Crowley introduced him to human food, but I think it started way before that. It started when he met this beautiful angel before the beginning and that angel told him, that his nebula doesn't need on-lookers and a higher purpose to be a reason for joy. It didn't have to show people God's power in order for it to bring joy to Crowley. It was enough because it existed.
Aziraphale has turned into a hedonist. He enjoys the beautiful, simple though luxurious things in life, and we see the joy, we first saw in Crowley, more often in him these days than in the demon. There's been a shift in their way to look at the universe. For Crowley that was probably inevitable, given his fall and all the hurt and pain that came with it. But I am sure that it was Crowley who started, who caused the shift towards a more joyful, less "useful-centred" outlook on things in Aziraphale. Because Aziraphale looked at that angel and suddenly realised that things could exist, could be apprectiated, could have worth without a specific reason. And that realisation has been working and ripening in him ever since, until it found its way to the surface when Crowley offered him that ox rib. And from there, there was no turning back ever again for him...

Winfrey was tired.
He wanted to sleep.
His sight was foggy. He couldn't make out figures, just colors. A flash of an agressive orange, then a sudden red. Somewhere in the back he saw blue flashing. Unable to focus on anything, he just tried to keep his eyes open.
His hearing wasn't any better. Screaming felt distant, then suddenly right next to him. It was accompanied by a wierd high pitched sound of some sort, an alarm? He could barely distinguish anything. Words were mangled, even if he managed to understand, it was just "NO PLEASE!" and "MERCY!" amongst the screams.
It was hard to keep his eyes open. They felt heavier and heavier with every second.
The time slowed down.
His pain subsided, replaced by numbness.
The black goo oozing out of his wounds was warm.
Winfrey wanted to sleep.
Just close his eyes...
"WINFREY!"
His eyes opened slowly at the voice he knew so well.
A figure was sitting just in front of him.
Clyde.
His dear Clyde.
"Hey..." The blue creature replied. It took a lot to say just this one word.
"Winfrey, please... You can't leave..." His lover cried. Leave? Why would he leave? He was just going to sleep.
With almost all the power he had left, Winfrey lifted his hand, placing it on Clyde's tear-covered cheek.
Why is Clyde crying?
Winfrey is just going to sleep.
The orange creature hugged the blue hand, squeezing it lightly. His orange suit was covered in blood, but none of them minded. Clyde sobbed softly.
"Winfrey... My dear... Please..."
Winfrey smiled. Well, to the best of his abilities. He felt himself drifting away, but with his last effort he managed to stutter out two words.
"My beloved...."
His hand fell limp.
A terrifying scream ripped throught the air, full of pure sorrow and grief.
Soon enough, more policemen came. They came to a scene of blood and gore scattered around a field. Only living being there was hunched over what seemed to be the corpse of another of it's kind.
Without even turning around, the orange monster muttered, "it doesn't make sense anymore. You can shoot me."
His voice sounded exhausted.
Then, only one sound was heard.
A gunshot.
Clyde's eyes shot awake and he started frantically looking around. He was still in the embrace of Winfrey, who's big chest rose and fell slowly. It was still bright outside, probably 4pm.
Clyde felt himself start crying. The dream felt so real. All too real. He started slightly shaking, hugging his blue companion tight.
"Clyde...? What are you... Oh my, are you okay, dear?" Winfrey, awoken by his partner's cries. He reached out a hand, the same as the one in the dream, and wiped Clyde's cheek, the same as in the dream.
The orange monster sobbed again, his entire body shaking.
"Oh, oh dear... It's alright...Clyde, it's okay... What happened...?"
Clyde hiccuped before answering.
"I- um... I had a dream where y-you... Where you died and-" he cut himself off with another sob.
"Oh, you poor thing..." Winfrey brought his partner closer, the warmth of their bodies comforting. Clyde slowly calmed down, his breath steadying after a while. He buried his face into the crook of Winfeys neck, seeking as much comfort as he could get.
The two monsters fell asleep again, entangled in eachother. For this one very vunerable moment their human emotions showed, but that's okay. No monster is fully cold-hearted.

Night Shift
Chapter 1
A/N: Reader is female. No physical descriptors used. Let me know if i fucked up and not do that.
Warning: Adult content only! 18+ only please. Dark! There is potentially triggering stories ahead.
Summary: You start a new job at the best hotel and resort in your beautiful beach town. Things start to go bad when your transferred to the night shift.

You grimace at the newly posted schedule above the time sheets. Next week you were to start the night shift.
“Looks like you drew the short straw newbie,” Sarah teases as she peers over your shoulder.
“It’s fine, it’s temporary.” You say with a tight smile. You regretted how you desperately pandered to the hiring manager during your interview. The position you’d applied for was for the afternoon, 2nd shift, but when asked if you were flexible to cover a few nights you immediately agreed without hesitation.
“I don’t know about that. I heard James, the one your covering for found a new job.” She shrugs, barely acknowledging your frown.
That was news to you. You hadn’t actually met James, but you’d seen him in passing—usually when you were clocking out. He didn’t come across as particularly friendly.
“I'm sure they will find a replacement in no time.” You say trying to convince yourself.
She scoffs walking past, “That’s what they told James.”

The check-in rush fills the lobby with a buzz. This was your first experience working at a resort hotel, and not just any resort—the Grand Lux. It stood as the largest on the island, and a far cry from the smaller motels you'd worked at before.
The resort exuded pure luxury, with its grand marble lobby gleaming under sparkling chandeliers. Huge windows showed off the clear blue ocean, while the soft scent of jasmine filled the air. For those who could afford it they enjoyed the private villas that lined the south beach with its white-sand, shaded by tall palm trees, and the infinity pool seemed to blend into the sea.
You wish you could escape to one now.
You smile tightly holding your composure while the guest berates you. The hotel is at capacity and thanks to a system error their room is double booked and villas were off limits for substitutions.
“I understand your frustration, but we no longer have any available rooms,” you inform. They aren’t happy why would they be. You look over to Sarah for help. She and the other clerks are all busy handling their own guest leaving you stranded to solve this on your own.
“You see this,” she spits, shoving her phone in your face and points to the confirmation number. She is right it’s all there, but there is nothing you can do.
“We booked three months ago. Three,” She emphasized with her fingers. “How can you have sold our room!”
You feel sweat pool under your arms as you try to sort this. This was turning into a scene, and with probation hanging over you, you needed to prove you had the problem-solving skills to stay.
“We have a sister location-“ you begin. Hands gently rest on your shoulders, startling you.
“Excuse me for a moment Darling.” The creamy accented voice smoothly interjects. Your mouth opens, but no words come as you're gracefully guided aside.
The tall blonde smoothly takes your place and smiles at the disgruntled guest. You’d never seen him before. From his suit and name tag it’s clear that he is a manager. A stark difference from the pastel green blazers and khaki pants clerks were forced to wear.
“My apologies madam. I do understand your fruition,” he empathizes. You watch as he types and converses with the guest. The red in her face fades slowly. The woman that was ready to bit your head off was now giggling like a school girl.
You don’t know what magic he intends to pull off. You’d checked and double checked, but there was no rooms available to accommodate her.
“Oh lucky, I wouldn’t mind going all night with him,” Sarah purrs playfully as she comes up beside you.
“Who is he?”
“He’s the night manager, Mr. Pine.” She informs as you both watch on. He is handsome and from the look on your disgruntled guest charming.
He catches you both watching and flashes a bashful smile. You spin-away flustered and Sarah follows suit. Ogling the man isn’t the kind of first impression you wanted to make.

James arrives and passes by without acknowledgment. You want to go up and speak to him, ask him questions, but he was just too intimidating.
It will be fine. Night shift can’t be that much different than 2nd shift, right.
You sigh and glance over to your now empty station. The guest was gone, thankfully. How Mr.Pine managed to handle that you didn’t know, but hopefully it didn’t reflect poorly on your performance review.
“Excuse me Darling, may I have a word?” The smooth accent startles you once more. You spin around, surprised by his sudden appearance again.
“Uh sure.”
You’re silent as he leads the way. There’s nothing good about being called to the manager’s office. There never was.
The door closes and dread grows as he rounds you, perching himself on the edge of the desk and faces you. You’d been doing so well until now. You’d hope to make it through your probation period without a hitch. But now, everything felt up in the air.
“Take a seat.” He encourages, motioning to the empty chair before him. Sullen you do as your told.
His legs seem impossibly long, stretched out and blocking your path, and he makes no move to shift them.
“Thank you for saving me. How did you-I mean I checked the system. There were no rooms available.” You eke out nervously, taking the seat, fingers fidgeting in your lap.
“Nonsense at the Grand we are family. Things like this happen all the time.” Mr. Pine assures. “And as for the resolution I find that in a pinch a night in the presidential suite and complementary bottle of Dom Perignon normally does the trick.” He says with a wink.
“You're the new girl? Correct?” Mr. Pine asks and you nod feverishly.
“Let me introduce myself properly. I’m Jonathan, Jonathan Pines. Night manager. I actually wanted to talk to you about the new schedule and apologize for the sudden change. I know no one looks forward to missing a night out for work.”
“Oh I don’t mind,” you lie with a tight smile. You needed the money, and if you were going to stick around, you'd have to take whatever they offered.
“I’m sure your partner will worry with you being out so late.”
“I don’t have to worry about that, my cat, Scotty, might not like it though, but he’ll adjust.” you assure him.
“That’s a pity. You’re quite beautiful darling, any man would be so lucky.”
You’re a bit frazzled by his words. He was likely just being polite, a skill that came with being in management, offering a simple compliment to the pathetic cat lady.
“Well then I’d hate to keep your kitty waiting,” He smirks and offers his hand. You take it, and with a quick tug, you're pulled to your feet—he’s surprisingly strong. “I look forward to burning the midnight oil with you in the coming weeks.”
“I look forward to it too.”
Your heart settles, and silently thank the stars. Once again, you’d convinced yourself things were worse than they were, stressing for nothing. It was a bad habit and exhausting.

Yasuhiro Mihara Aw05 Gap special interview
Keeping it simple
This season marked the Miharayasuhiro brand's full-fledged Milan runway debut. The show, which started at 9:30 am on the last day of fashion week, was bathed in a clear morning light and marked by a laidback atmosphere. "I stripped the show off all excess," says the young designer, "I wanted it to be simple. I wanted to show the clothes in a pure way without relying on BGM with impact, a vibe of a venue, or an eccentric presentation. I did the show in a small space with a limited number of guests. So this time it was a very homey ambience. It was totally different from the Tokyo catwalk." The show's unspectacular venue had courtyard where laundry dry- ing above and other evidence of the day-to-day life of Milan were in full view. "It's been turned into a gallery," explains Mihara, "but originally it was a bakery. I was looking for a small space, and somebody found it for me. But it turned out to be smaller than I expected. I was really surprised when I first saw it!" The space was so small it looked as though audience seated on opposite either side of the catwalk could have touched palms with just a little stretch. It was in this cramped space that Mihara chose to set up turntables. "I decided to give the turntables the same function as a clock," he says. "We set up turntables all through the venue, each playing a different track, so everybody would be picking up on dif- ferent rhythms to feel an individual sense of time. Then, through the almost uncomfortable proximity of models to spectators, the sound of models' footsteps and the wind they walked, through all of these things, there was a romantic feel." Thus with the small white-walled space and simple background music, Miharayasuhiro's collection was presented simply yet intensely and with plenty of impact.
Respecting color
This collection was titled "The Complexity of Points of View," but Mihara explains that he purposely doesn't publish a theme or con- cept for his shows. "Publishing that kind of stuff can be pretentious and, in a way, dangerous," he says. "I'm very interested in the 'moment of blankness," he continues. "For example, when
punching something with a staple, you're not thinking anything, that you would hardly right some kind of power in that instant. I yearn for that power of feel seless. I'm interested in dodle that is for ahave no punning or purpose - like a doodle that is praised for an artistic meaninghe questions remain of how the clothes, and Mihara him Belf, would be interpreted by the people that see them. His philoso phy is that if you have to have a theme, leaving it up to the values, phy is that and thoughts that will be, the process and rer is the optimum way. "In my case," he says, "the process and mentality Delhind my creations are the concept. I'm talking about the com plexed dual nature of opinions - everything has a different explana fion according to whom you ask. There are always different per. tipectives. But this, for me, is an essential thing, so rather than a theme that's limited just to this season, it's something that's always
been inside me." Mihara says he is not very attached to colors or concrete things. "There are such things as colors that expected in fabrics," he explains. "For denim the most appropriate color is blue, for a trench coat it is beige, for military items, and so on. I believe these generic colors to be very important. But, whether it's fashion or just clothes, if there is no reality it is just a fantasy. So this time, I sort of let myself off a bit and changed things. I showed colors that are not colors. I tried to respect the colors that the shape of clothes deserved. The result was a lot of black and white."
The right time to head overseas
Miharayasuhiro's Milan debut follows the defection from the Tokyo Collections of Under Cover and Number (N)ine. Mihara reflects on what is widely considered to be a big loss for the Tokyo fashion scene. "At this stage, I can't say I found a reason for choosing Milan after being in Tokyo for 10 seasons. This season I'll show in Tokyo in an exhibition format, but in the future maybe we'll do both shows simultaneously, I don't know. To be honest, doing a show in Tokyo and Milan at the pace of once every three months is very dif- ficult unless you're a big brand." Mihara says the reason he chose Milan for this season's show was an advice from the people around him. "I did the collaboration with Puma, and my name was known. worldwide, but that was it. Many people were asking me why I did- n't do show overseas. People have been saying that to me for over two years now. At that time I felt the timing wasn't right, but it began to seem more appropriate." So why did he not follow his compatriots to Paris? "People often ask that question, but like I said, I'm not fixated on making it overseas. Many people see show- ing overseas as some kind of status issue, but if you ask me, that's a big mistake. I did it because I thought it was right for me, and the reason I chose Milan was just because I happen to have a lot of friends there. It's not the show that's important, it's actually an act of creating that's important. Of course, as a means of communicat- ing your beliefs to many people, as an epicenter, a show or exhibi- tion is very important." It remains to be seen where Mihara will decide to settle his so-called epicenter, but the brand is sure to continue to show in a place where his creations shine at their best. "The act of making things will give you something more than simply performing the act itself. I want to cherish the spirit in it.

okay, are you ready? here’s my be mine superstar melt:
1. I am unbearably obsessed with the personality “swop” that happened between these two actors. going from fiat our little sunshine brat in dsn to Ashi our regal serious actor in bms and Leo our serious big boy protector in dsn to actual puppy sunshine baby punn in bsm -> getting a swop like that shows me their range as actors but also just different sides to their acting personalities and how well they know each other which is pure magic in romance
2. I’m OBSESSED with the way they met. like yes punn is madly in love with ashi as a fan boy (the little poster kiss really ruined my life), but to have an accidental bump in meet-cute and then (as far as it looks like the plot is heading) to end up working together is a delightful start to their story (cause it alludes to plot directions like “oh fuck I’m in love with you what am I supposed to do with these feelings??” , and “secret relationship eras (my beloved)” and “how can you date him you’re just a student intern and he’s a superstar” and “but I love him. I love him.”. can you tell I’m ready for this?)
3. the sets for this show seem to be out of this world. not just in relation to the period drama ashi (and co) are acting in but also the cafe where punn met his friends, the bar where doctor and superstar met (HAH!), punn’s mom’s cafe, dad’s art studio. all of it is so good. and from what I can see they really seem to be using the lighting and set structure to show personalities which is incredible in and of itself. (e.g. if you notice the lighting and set is pretty light/airy/flowing when punn is the central focus (that shower scene speaks for itself); but quite dark/wood/sort of solid when ashi is the focus)
4. the costumes, oh good god, the costumes! firstly just how beautiful the period drama stuff is ! ashi’s white cloak? and title’s full princely (guard?) suit? IMMACULATE. but also their casual clothes. ashi being so neat, tidy, and elegant always. versus punn who is soft and comfy (that lil grey cardigan did so much for my heart). as far as I can see (and probably because there’s been so many costume changes as a result of ashi’s job), there hasn’t been any colour coding between him and punn (yet?). so not much to say on the blue boy/red boy (/other colour variations) connotations. they may just play this out in style more than colour which is always less obvious but satisfying all the same, but I guess that’s just a waiting game.
5. so so happy with all the touching we’ve had. and I don’t just mean punn and his delusional body pillow cuddling (although that’s so relatable). but also between doctor and superstar (I really need to get to their names lmao) -> their entire scene was iron melting! the thumb swipe across the bottom lip, the finger brushing against the hand, the dancing (holy fuck), and then naturally the sex. SO GOOD. but also yes punn and his little prayer to his ashi poster, punn and his brother pai fighting (ah sibling love), even the touching between the three superstar friends. I like that the intimacy of touching is already being shown in a full range of ways. parents to children, sibling to sibling, friend to friend, love interests, lust. EATING SO GOOD!
anyway, now that I’ve talked y’all’s ears off, I am so happy to have a Monday night (more like Tuesday morning) watch for the next few weeks and I’m beyond excited for wherever this one will take us !!
