I only just realized this started airing so I'm late to the game. Looks like no one's sat down to translate the character map yet so here it is! (mostly for my own reference ngl) Keep in mind that the names might be romanized differently once they come up in the show ๐
#why r u korea#why r u 2023#korean bl#i'm having a lot of fun with this show surprisingly#only watched the original a few months ago so i clearly don't represent the core fandom#but it's fun to see what they kept and what they changed#and the way both thai and korean styles of acting and storytelling are kind of blending here??#if you're at all fluent in korean and notice any major mistakes in this pls do correct me#i can mostly just read and pronounce and otherwise use papago#at least the hilarity of lee won being a doggo in this graphic while his opinion on ji oh says ๊ฐXX doesn't escape me lol#bella and the blorbos

1ST STUDY PERIOD;
โ LOG: #1. created: sepโ 7, 2020. โ 1st study period review;
start: augโ 10, 2020.ย // end: augโ 31, 2020. total of days: 22 days. total of active study hours: 57 hours. (anywhere from 2 to 7 hrs daily) main goals: didnโt have any real goals when i started this period. mostly just wanted to challenge myself with a complex language and see how much i could learn/how fast i could go in a short amount of time. had zero clue where i was going and why i was doing it (my first and only motivation at the time was being able to watch kdramas without subtitles).
โข
main study resource: howtostudykorean website.ย supporting/secondary resources: talk to me in korean, memrise.ย apps used: naver dictionary, papago translator, korean+, focus keeper, memrise.

i fall asleep/shut down when bored (using the same resource/study method for long periods of time) even if iโm full of energy and enthusiastic about learning/studying.
i need to write down key words, use sticky notes and other visual cues + taking color coded notes in order to learn/remember things without getting anxious.
i have the attention spam of a 2 year old and get easily distracted by sounds and intrusive thoughts. pomodoro method and chill lofi mixes work like a charm.
texting/indulging in online interactions while studying seriously harms my focus and sets me up for failure 99.9% of the time.
i get anxious and insecure when it comes to writing words i recently just learned and get fearful of spelling them wrong โ i know its not the end of the world but my brain apparently doesnโt.
i can study/digest new information for 7 hours a day with no struggles if the lesson keeps me entertained.
the thought of reading/pronouncing long sentences in korean scares me and i catch myself avoiding it often.
large reviews frustrate me if the content iโm reviewing confuses me.ย
to wake up at 7am fully rested & energized i have to go to bed before 11:30pm, otherwise iโll be sleepy and dying for a nap. โ note to self: naps donโt help in the end.
โคฅย ๐ณ๐ถ๐ป๐ฎ๐นย ๐ป๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐;
strengths: grammar & listening. // note taking & capacity to have long study sessions.
weaknesses: vocabulary. // anxiety & fear over making mistakes and doing things wrong.
areas where i saw improvement: saw improvement in all areasย bc i went from zero to โsomethingโ in a very short time. my pronunciation and handwriting got a whole lot better near the end of the 22 days. my listening skills also got significantly better and can now easily recognize/pick up words/phrases in context when listening to dramas, korean variety shows, and kpop interviews without subtitles.
goals for next period: improve reading speed, let go of the dumb vocabulary block/anxiety/fear clouding my thoughts, reach L1:lesson 15 in ttmik, U1:lesson 11 in htsk, and unit 1 of kgiu, learn 200+ new words (topik related). // next period duration: 15 days. starting: sepโ 8, 2020. โ ending: sepโ 22, 2020.
all in all iโm super proud of myself !!!ย
the time, effort & dedication iโve put into this journey has been insane and my newly found ability to keep pushing myself towards my language-learning goals has made this one of the most eye-opening and rewarding experiences iโve had in a long time. i now have big goals (more like MASSIVE goals) for the near future regarding korean and canโt wait to see how much i improve over the next months.ย โจ
