If you have a pair of frames you really like but you need a new prescription, there's a company called LensesRX.com that you can send in your glasses and they'll put in new lenses. They're always sending discounts in their emails too. Price varies based on what you select (like blue light filter), but you can get basic lenses for no cost and add scratch resistant and uv coating for $5 each, so with labor it's $40. I do usually spring for the Digital Lenses with Anti-Reflective and Blue Blocker (I work in IT), which start at $30, but there's usually at least a 25% lens discount available, bringing it down $22.50 for a total of $52.50.
I also used them when I splurged on some DL Eyewear sunglasses (which were FSA eligible, BTW) and needed my prescription put in them.
where are those startups that are disrupting the glasses industry

In other news, I've lost my glasses. I've misplaced them before, but never to this extent that I haven't been able to find them at home, at work, or in our car. So... yeah, that's a huge bummer, unless they turn up somewhere random where I didn't think to look before (but that would just beg the question of why they'd be in such a random location in the first place) I'm gonna have to replace them.
I need to get my prescription updated anyways so this time around I'm gonna just do the appointment, get my prescription and measurements, and then order some new ones online from like, Zenni or something (I've heard good things about them and their prices are DEFINITELY more reasonable). I just really liked the frames that I had, so I'm really hoping I can find the same ones again or something similar; and honestly even if I do go with a cheaper place like Zenni, I need transition lenses for my light sensitivity so it's always gonna be pricey no matter who I buy them from 😭
Unfortunately there seems to be a high volume of appointments rn (probably because it's the school season, idk) so the place I usually go to is booked up until December. Then when I called another place to check their booking schedule, they told me they could get me in next Monday at 4... which just so happens to land at the tail end of a 3 hour shift that I have to do at my second job, a job that I literally only work 3-6 hours a week for 💀 Sooo the odds of that are kind of astounding (and incredibly frustrating) but apparently cancellations are relatively common so they have me on a waitlist, and worst case, if I don't get called in sooner on account of a cancellation, I only have to wait until mid October, about a month away. Still a pain, but better than waiting until frigging December LOL Like man I just need to replace my glasses, why is this so frustrating 💀

What Are the Odds?

------------------------------------
Mega Man X, pre-rebellion
Characters: Dr. Cain and X
------------------------------------
His heavy footfalls came stomping into the room at a rapid pace. The old scientist heard him coming, gently removing his glasses and rubbing the bridge of his nose.
"Dr. Cain! Dr. Cain! I won!"
His voice was brimming with enthusiasm. Cain swiveled in his chair to watch the world's newest Wonder come rushing into the room. In his hands, he held a small piece of paper. Some kind of ticket.
"Welcome home, X," the human chuckled, rearranging himself in his chair. "What's got you all excited this time?"
He said the last part with soft fondness. Ever since his activation, X had been curious about just about everything, and eager to learn whatever he could. He was so much like a human in that regard that it took Cain by surprise whenever he was reminded that X was, in fact, a being of plastic, silicone and metal.
"Dr. Cain, I won! I can't believe it!" X said again brightly. He waved the small ticket around in the air.
Dr. Cain grinned. X's enthusiasm was infectious. "Yes, you already said that. But -what- did you win?"
X beamed. "The lottery!"
The human scrunched up his nose. "Gambling…? At such a tender age," he scoffed with a teasing glint in his eye, "don't make a habit of that or you'll exhaust your allowance."
X's face blanked momentarily. "But I won… doesn't that mean I get something back?"
Cain smiled. "Well, perhaps. Let me check. Sometimes those things are confusing."
X handed over the ticket and waited. He bounced on his toes as Dr. Cain read his winning ticket.
"Hm," Cain said after a short pause. "You did win! Very nice."
He handed X back his ticket.
"How much? It's worth money, isn't it?" X asked curiously.
"300 zenny," Cain said matter-of-factly.
X paused his bouncing. "…three hundred? Is that all?"
Cain nodded. "Mhm. Not much, but you probably got your money back from the purchase. Right?"
X frowned. "What do you mean?"
Cain folded his hands in his lap. "Well, to figure out your earnings, you must compare the winnings to the purchase price. If your winnings are higher than the purchase price, you subtract the smaller number from the larger number. That is your profit."
"Profit…" X mouthed absently. "That means I didn't make any profit at all…"
"How much did you pay for the ticket?"
"300 zenny."
"Mmm, then you broke even."
X's frown deepened. "But I won…the sign said the lottery was worth 3 billion…"
Cain chuckled. "Lotteries do have one grand prize winner, but they often have smaller prizes to lure in buyers -- prizes that are much, much lower than the grand prize."
X's shoulders slumped. "But why do that? What's the point? People buy tickets to win the grand prize, not 300 zenny here or there…"
Cain nodded. "It's complete malarkey, I know. But if they didn't offer some kind of smaller prizes, people would see the odds were stacked impossibly against them, and they wouldn't buy in. Also, offering multiple prizes keeps the company clear in a legal sense. Somewhat. That gets a bit murky."
X's eyes remained glued to the floor. They had gained a glossy look, almost as if they had misted over… Dr. Cain's eyes widened. Was X…crying? Was he even capable?!
"X? What's the matter?" he asked.
X swallowed thickly and turned his face away. His voice wavered ever so slightly. "300 zenny…is not nearly enough…"
Dr. Cain looked confused. "Did you need something? If there's something you want, I can give you more money, dear boy. It's not a problem."
X's expression turned defiant, but he still refused to meet Dr. Cain's eyes. "It's not that… I wanted to… "
The old man waited silently. The display of emotions he was used to seeing in X typically remained in the range of happy and curious. He had seldom seen X feeling upset.
When X spoke again, his voice was soft. Small. Vulnerable.
"Your research…I wanted to help fund your research." He sighed. "But you need a lot more than 300 zenny…"
Cain's eyes opened wide. "Hm? That's why you bought the lottery ticket?"
And then he burst out laughing. Not out of mockery -- he hoped X didn't take it that way -- but out of endearment. He wiped a tear from the corner of his eye.
"Oh, my boy," Cain said, slowly rising. He placed his aged hands on X's arms, a warm smile on his face. "My boy, my boy. You are something precious, you know that?"
X's frown softened. He looked up at the old man's eyes, searching for the meaning of his reaction.
"You don't have to worry about that. I've been working on a grant proposal all day; it's almost finished. You came in just as I was about to take a break."
X tilted his head. "Grant proposal? What's that?"
Cain gently released him. "There are a myriad of government agencies that provide money to fools like me. They have an interest in the advancement of science, so they work the complex systems put in place for just that purpose to make sure we have the funding we need to carry on our endeavors."
X looked confused. "But how do you get the money…?"
Cain smiled. "Well, that's why I'm writing the grant proposal! We don't have to combat the randomness of a lottery system. All we have to do is ask."
X's expression still showed uncertainty. It was obvious that he was not yet put at ease. "But if other people are also asking for money, how do you know they'll give it to you?"
Dr. Cain laughed. It was a soft laugh, quiet, just under his breath; it was a laugh that made the crinkles at the corners of his eyes press together as his irises disappeared behind his heavy eyelides.
When he opened his eyes again, that bright color that belied his age was there again. He lifted a fragile hand to gently rub X's helmet. The blue android flinched, closing one eye. He welcomed the touch, though, after a short while. It was…soothing.
"Oh, just a feeling," Cain answered. "Now. I was just about to make some tomato soup and grilled cheese. Do you want one?"
X's eyes lit up. "Yes!"
Dr. Cain chuckled. "I'll start the food. You turn on the TV. It's almost time for the news, and I hear they're interviewing the Maverick Hunters today."
X's cheeks flushed red. He was suddenly very quiet.
Dr. Cain passed him a knowing grin.
"You might want to watch this one."

I just saw your answer to that glasses poll from a few days ago. Where are you buying glasses for so cheap?!
I get most of my glasses through Zenni but I've used other similar sites like Zeelool and Firmoo too. When I buy them, I get a few pairs at a time to make the shipping cost worth it. Most of mine are also on the cheaper end, since the cheap colorful plastic frames are more my style than the nicer metal frames most of the time.
My prescription is also not very intense/complicated so I don't have to pay extra for special lenses or prisms or anything

If it's the cost of glasses getting you down, once you have your prescription you can buy them online for super duper duper cheap!
My new ones are rainbow with a little charm that turn into sunglasses in sunlight (yay for my light sensitivity!), Blue light filter, anti reflective/glare, fingerprint resistant, etc ..... For $50. Instead of, like, $1000+ at physical eye doctor/glasses places (VisionWorks, for the most basic pair of glasses possible with no extras, would have been $300+ if I didn't have insurance through work!)
If it's the issue of weird vision when you first put them on, you just need to wear them for a few days and your eyes will adjust! No more giant lense flare effects when looking at lights; you can actually read from a distance too! And see people's faces! And see so much detail on TV shows and movies!
But yeah, I get my glasses from Firmoo, since there's lots of flash sales and wide selection, but there's also Zenni and Eyebyedirect along with a bunch of others out there!
Plus you can get custom prescription sunglasses for like. $20 ! Or do what I did and get the photo chromatic coating that turns into sunglasses automatically when exposed to uv light :)
As someone who only got 1 free pair of glasses a year growing up and when they broke, they broke.... I try to tell everyone I can about getting them online.
You deserve to see the world clearly 👓👁️🏳️‍🌈
I actually have zenni glasses! The thing is I’m too lazy to wear them :p I get migraines so I have to wear sunglasses whenever I go out so I’m already used to wearing stuff on my face but the idea of needing to swap out glasses depending on sun intensity (I know there are ones that automatically adjust but I don’t trust them to be as effective as regular sunglasses) is just exhausting to me. Pretty much everyone in my family wears glasses + I have an optometrist aunt, it’s me that’s the problem 🤪

also dying at the memory that some people’s lenses DON’T cost more than the frames. my lenses have cost more than the frames since...as long as I can remember. probably ~10, i doubt my first few pairs were that bad, but by the time i was in high school my glasses were so prohibitively expensive that my parents had to take turns buying them
dad cheaped out and didn’t get the polycarb lenses once and they were. comically thick. i hadn’t realized near-sighted people could get the coke-bottle effect but boy the pair i had junior/senior year of high school were hilarious from the side.
not coincidental that is when i wore contacts the most often, i think.
even before zenni, my lenses cost at least 50% more than the frames. now the proportion is silly extreme but the overall cost is the same/cheaper for nicer lenses.

Another Poll!
So, this one is a little more complicated. I'm in the market for a new pair of glasses, cat's eye frames, BUT I also need sunglasses, and I'm thinking of a two-in-one type of option.
Option One: Pair Eyewear. Getting the Wanda base frames, probably in black, but with a sunglasses top frame (they're magnetized!). I could buy more top frames and swap out a bunch. Two downsides: 1) Keeping up with the sunglasses part when I don't need them, say when I'm inside. 2) the cost; while single-vision is only $60 (and each top frame ranges from $25-$30), if I get my progressives it would be $289! I could just do single though...but over time it would fuck up my distance more, just like when I was wearing readers all the time.
Option Two: Zenni Optical light responsive. I would still have a black framed cats-eye, but it would be with Zenni's store-brand light-responsive lenses (i.e. Transition lenses but not the actual Transitions brand). I wouldn't have swappable frames, and the photochromic lenses do have the downside of taking a while to lighten back up when you go inside, or going to sunglasses mode even when it's cloudy. Or the worst, NOT darkening when you drive because windshields already have UV blocking so you still have to drive with a glare!). But positives, even with progressive lenses it would only be $99.77 with my ID.me teacher discount, and I wouldn't have to keep up with a sunglass topper.

I bought a pair of glasses online from Zenni last year and they've been great! They were like 35 dollar frames and I think only 10 more for the add-ons I asked for. Which is a steal considering normal glasses are in the hundreds! Also I didn't even buy the cheapest pairs.
OOOHHH that sounds so good tbh I probably should’ve gone with that but I was. Captivated by the little stars on the lensmart ones-

My fellow glasses wearers, there is a way around paying a ridiculous amount of money to frickin’ see.
Zenni Optical is a website that sells glasses directly to consumers, cutting out the companies that mark up the price so much. The prices are so much more affordable compared to what you can find when buying them elsewhere. There are more expensive options on that (such as designer brands) but the majority of frames are reasonably priced. I bought my current frames for $20 dollars, and they have lasted me about two years. They also sell prescription sunglasses and contact lenses, if those are your jam.
All you need is your prescription and pupillary distance, both of which you can request from your eye-doctor’s office. Now, some won’t want to give it too you, because… well, money. But they are not legally allowed to withhold it from you, so you can definitely get it.
I am not sure if the website delivers to people outside of the U.S., but I figured this was good to share even if only my fellow Americans can use it, because we all know how stupidly expensive healthcare is over here. So here’s a way to save a few hundred dollars. :)
Made the mistake of bringing up that needing glasses is a disability on tiktok and people got real mad.
“You can fix it with glasses” yeah, cuz they’re a disability aid? But like, I still have to pay 160 bucks to use my own fucking eyes?
Like, by definition, if your eyes do not work without aid, you have a disability to see.
Having a disability doesn’t automatically put you in what people consider the “disabled” category, but that doesn’t change the fact that it is in fact, a disability.

I woke up kind of late today. by late I mean really late. like noon. but its because I couldn't sleep last night so its not my fault that I woke up late.
I got up and was told that we were heading out for the day so I got on with my day by cleaning up and getting dressed. I did everything but the most important chore/task which is eating breakfast so I actually didn't get to eat until very late this afternoon which sucks but the day nevertheless was really good.
I tried on a bunch of jeans which was fun and I finally found a style I really liked. I didn't buy them because I want to try on some more before I find the right pair. jeans are very specific to me because they cant be too baggy or too skinny nor can they be too fitted on my hips or so loose that they dont hold. so trying them on is very important. I also wear jeans everyday in school so having the perfect pair for walking and moving around but also sitting and also spending at least 8 hours in is important.
I came home and had one of the greatest foods ever. gyros. unfortunately, it was not as flavorful as it used to be. but it was still so good I think I devoured it in 6 minutes.
i'm hopefully getting my new glasses tomorrow. I love zenni because of how affordable and good quality their frames are. and the prescriptions are always perfect so I have no complaints at all. I always get my glasses from them. maybe i'll post the new glasses and let you guys see for yourself.
lastly, i've continued to get really interesting tiktoks. I mentioned them previously on my page but they keep coming in order so if ms.tarot lady posts two parts of a reading I will get both parts on my for you page only a couple videos apart. I know that the algorithm sees what I watch and puts the video there for me to see but I want to believe that it magically appears there anyways. they are starting to make me feel really good about myself and I don't like how that feels because I do not believe in tarot. hearing someone say something so truthful to myself is eerie kind of. She keeps on saying how im becoming more mature and becoming myself and that people will start to see how I truly am. that people will erase the image that they have of me being immature and naive and will understand and respect me finally. I hope to god ms.tarot lady is right. I need so and so to respect me and stop thinking low of me because im not like them. im my own person and they need to see me for who I am. she says that I will no longer be getting pushed around and I will stand my ground and people wont like that which is sad to me because why would the people close to me want to see me so weak. she also says that I will finally speak my truth and that will shock those around me and I honestly hope it does. when the conversation im hoping I will have happens, I hope it rocks the people listening. if it ever happens, I will update you guys first.
ill talk about ms.tarot lady more I think. I think she'll keep coming up and she'll continue to tell me everything I need to hear. and maybe i'll listen. or maybe itll go in one ear and out the other. who knows.
sorry if this is a ramble. I just hope she's right.

for years I’ve been buying glasses from online retailers like zenni or goggles4u and 1 pair has never costed me more than $50 USD like it’s so cheap i don’t even care that the lens pops out sometimes
but the whole “some people don’t actually have to pay to see” thing didn’t fully hit me until I decided to check out how much a pair of glasses cost thru insurance and saw that the total was $110 AFTER INSURANCE IS APPLIED

nah menstrual cups are glasses (much cheaper if you're not buying from the monopoly, reusable, sanitary and at least as effective as the disposable stuff, you have to clean them every so often, all you need to do is find a size/style you like and you're set) and pads and tampons are both contacts but yeah I will agree especially tampons (super expensive because you keep needing to buy more, more likely to cause infections and irritation, so many different types and sizes and colors, you could get very sick if you leave them in too long, can leave you feeling dry and scratchy, etc).
I guess pads are more like if there was such a thing as disposable glasses. The flimsy plastic sunglasses you get from the eye doctor after having your pupils dilated.
Maybe pads are like the first glasses you get when you're a kid that are overpriced, dorky and maybe a bit clunky because you don't know any better; tampons are like the contacts you get as a teen once you realize they make you look more sleek and grown-up than glasses, even though they can be a bit uncomfortable and feel weird to put in, but you get used to it; menstrual cups are when you go back to glasses as an adult because your mind is blown by the new fact you've discovered: that glasses don't have to be expensive (zenni!) and now that you're an adult, you can't be spending all that money on contacts either, and there are actually some really cute glasses out there these days for like $20 or less.
pads are like glasses tampons are like contacts

I assume this will be the kind of post that you read and then go "wow, glad I'm not familiar with that drama" but I got my eyes checked and bought glasses today and now I have thoughts about it.
Sometimes I see posts about buying glasses online from like, Zenni and all of that, and I'm glad that that option exists for people who need it. Glasses are expensive, and it's good that people can obtain them for a price they can afford.
However, sometimes I feel like there's an undercurrent there that like, buying your glasses online is somehow anti-capitalist and you're fighting back against the big bad glasses industry by buying from an online retailer instead of buying them in person.
And that annoys me a little. I'm glad that's online glasses are in option, and I know they are more accessible to a lot of people, but for some people they actually are a worse option. There are benefits to buying glasses in person, and I think it does everybody a disservice to ignore that.
The main benefits I think to buying glasses in person are being able to try on the frames, which isn't just a matter of comfort but sometimes also a matter of vision quality. Bifocals and progressives are more common examples of this, but I am going to have prism in my lenses and it's very important that they sit correctly so that I'm looking through the right part of the glasses. I can't really confirm that online and it's not something that can be easily adjusted.
In person though, I was able to try on different frames and the professional was able to confirm whether or not that particular frame would be a good candidate for my lenses. And then when we couldn't find one that worked off the shelf, he said they could add a nose piece to one of the frames to bring it up a little so it would fit correctly.
There's also the matter of the prism lenses themselves, which are pretty hard to get from online manufacturers. I have 12 diopters of base out prism in each lens for a total of 24, which isn't the highest prism prescriptions can go but it's up there enough that I think I would be hard-pressed to find an online retailer capable of doing it well.
In the end, I know my situation is fairly niche and the vast majority of people don't have these considerations. But it does feel frustrating sometimes to see people acting as though they are Fighting The System by... buying from a budget brand instead of an expensive one.
I don't think it's bad to buy glasses online, but I'm not sure we need to devalue the work that opticians do in-store to make that point.
Me buying glasses from my local eye shop isn't going to fix eyecare, but I don't think buying them from Zenni is either.
What we really need is proper universal eye coverage, but that's not something easily accomplished and in the meantime we all just have to do what we tend to get what we need.
Tl;dr: buying glasses online is fine and an important and acceptable option for many people. However, sometimes people do need to buy glasses in store for a variety of practical reasons, and neither option is really fighting capitalism

NaClYoHo Day 28
Traditionally I don't count the days I'm temping, but I fully plan to at least chug my way through the photo books if nothing else, so eff it, I'm counting it. I did lose part of last week; I expected that Veterans Day wouldn't count, but then %yo got sick so I lost the 12th, too.
It's been too long since I updated this, sorry (she says as if anyone cards).
So what have I been up to?
Last I checked, the sunflower seeds aren't ready to harvest yet.
Asbestos guys are coming this weekend. I need to fill out some paperwork for the floor replacement guys, so that's a task for today. FIL is working on the walls. Husband is TV shopping online, and either today or tomorrow I'll see what Consumer Reports recommends.
Our few Thanksgiving decorations are up. Still don't have more than a tentative plan as to what we're doing.
No word on when the school pictures will be in.
I plan to make some appointments this week, although I doubt I'll attend more than one before the month is out.
I've done some online Christmas shopping, and I plan to start my in-person shopping in earnest this weekend (largely to avoid my MIL, with whom we are staying while the asbestos guys do their thing). If all goes well, we'll take pictures on Sunday.
I need to find the list of gifts from 1yo's baptism. I found a little but not much.
My nightstand straight-up broke, so I am gonna replace "clean and organize" with "get new". Should be easy once we have our correct dimensions.

Life is not great rn
Just another text note about how my life has imploded over the past 2 weeks. Read if you would like!
Not sure if I put it in past notes, but I work at an optometrist office, with an optical shoppe attached to it, and we actually make cut and make the glasses in house at the Foxboro location, where I primarily am. I used to be a tech, where I would get all your readings before you went in to see the doctor, until we hired some more people and I ended up getting "promoted" to front desk, where I was for about 6 weeks. The new techs, that everyone loves and does a great job, I trained by the way. I got a raise about 3 months ago, I was told by every doctor that I was improving, and look more comfortable and confident in the office. Which I did. Then it all blew up in my face.
The girl training me was named Kelly, and she should never train anyone ever. The way she answers my questions, makes it sound like the dumbest question in the world, made me feel like an absolute fucking idiot every time I was at work. She would point out every LITTLE mistake I would make. For instance, they had a portion or their chart that asked if they had any other eye problems, like amblyopia (lazy eye) or if they had LASIK or something like that, and in a lot of the patients charts, it had "other" in there, when it should be "negative" because there's nothing in there. I get it, and most of the time I fixed it, but if I didn't she would point it out and get real pissy about it. Then I would go through the chart to make sure it was done before the doctor took it, and she made the same fucking mistake, but I couldn't say anything about it. ALSO, they would put their hobbies in there, and even if the hobbies were the same, but the wording was different, she would  yell at me to change it, which I thought was a waste of time.. Ya know… because it is, and again, she would make the same mistakes. She was the one reporting to my boss how I was doing, and no one else was, so every little thing I did, she would make it out to be the end of the world. For instance, I overcharged someone for their contact lens evaluation, the father, who always buys contacts through us, was a doctor and Kelly flipped out, telling me I was going to call him and tell him I messed up and see if wanted a refund, which in return cost our office money. When I could've put it as a credit, and when he came to buy contacts through us, we would take it off that order. She goes, "they're doctors" and I was like okay?? Tell me which doctor knows anything about insurance. Guess what, he wanted a refund, and it cost our office money (:
Anyway, anytime I went to work I was stressed out, walking into that building made my blood pressure rise, and any time she wasn't there, it was a great day. So on Wednesday, July 27th, I was told by the doctor that she was moving me to the Milford office, which I hate, but it's away from Kelly so I was all for it, and ready to show that I didn't need her to do my job well. Dr. M, told me she wanted to move me up there so I can take some pressure from the new girl and she can train a little bit more, and she was moving Sam down to Foxboro, because the new girl in Milford sucks and so does her attitude. I noticed I was opening, and told her I didn't have a key to the office, she happily gave me one and I was ready for the week to end.
The next day, I was up front by myself training a new girl that is usually in pretest, but she needs to learn how to work the front as well. Everything was fine, it got a little weird and busy in the middle, but I worked through it, and everything was fine. Around 3, the contacts I had in were REALLY dry and basically about to come out of my eye just by blinking. I decided to take them out and get the glasses I kept in my car for this exact reason. These were my shitty glasses I got from Zenni when I didn't work there, so I didn't ruin my expensive lenses I got from them, again not while working there. They don't have a visible logo, and a patient never asked me about them. The only person to ask me about them, were the guys in the lab that cut the lenses for glasses, because they obviously weren't my normal pair. I told them they were shitty glasses from Zenni, and no patients were in the back while I said that. I wore them at the front for about 2 hours, again, only glasses I had on me, and Dr. D, never said anything to me about them, nor was I planning on wearing them there ever again. Friday, I had the day off, and rested and recharged for my Saturday shift on the 31st. I was excited for one, because Kelly wasn't on with me, the next day was Eric and I's 5th wedding anniversary and we had plans to stay in Boston and have a really expensive and delicious dinner, so I was ready to get the day over with and celebrate with my man. At the end of the day, I was looking through money, and remember that guy I overcharged earlier, well, the optician overcharged him again for his sons evaluation, and guess what, no one yelled at her. Anyway, she fucked up money and me and someone else were trying to figure it out, when Dr. D called me back. Now I messed up in the middle of the day, just a very small mess up and I was prepared for hi, to basically tell me to get my shit together and do better, and I would, especially if I wasn't going to be in this office anymore. Do you know how difficult and stressful it is to do your job effectively, with no mistakes, while someone is literally breathing down your neck? Anyway, he told me that they hired a lot of new people and because of that, my position became really competitive, and even though I was improving and I always take what the doctors say to heart and fix my problems, I was just not where they needed me to be, and that day was my last day.
I was COMPLETELY blindsided, like you literally gave me a key and said I was doing great 4 DAYS AGO, what changed from then to now. So, I was like, "okay" backed my shit, called Eric, crying, telling him what happened, asked the optician to move her car so I could leave and cried literally all day, not understanding why this happened.
So now I'm on unemployment, looking for another job trying to find one that makes good money or at least somewhere in the range of what I was making and trust me, it's extremely difficult.
Eric and I decided maybe we shouldn't stay in Boston because now were not going to make the 1K we planned on spending, back like we thought. My mom was nice enough to get us a hotel, and my family was having a party on that day, so we decided to stop by there and say hi, have some food, and then head to Boston and get some dinner. It was delicious and less than half of what we would have spent, although we plan on going there when I get another job. We went back to the hotel and I took a shower and as I was getting out I heard him on the phone with someone and it ended with "sir". I got out and asked him what was going on, and he said he just got a forced shift for in the morning 8-4. He's a cop, and he can't say no to those. We decided to pack it up and go home so he could get some sleep, I wasn't leaving Boston at 6 AM, but it really screwed our plans. I went to my moms the next day and gave her half the money back, because we couldn't use the room. He went to work, then it was my moms birthday. So I got her flowers and a cake and went over to give it to her. I had plans to go to Brockton to get Eric and I dinner at Sarku, since that was our original plan on the way back from Boston, and we had a nice dinner. I was sent a snapchat from my brothers girlfriend and they were singing happy birthday to my mom with a cake that no one ever told me about. So I got dressed and went to my moms, she lives, literally right around the corner.
On Tuesday, I had a normal day, definitely still dwelling about getting fired, but getting over it, regardless of the reason. Sam texts me during the day, and Dr. D, the one who fired me, is telling another employee that I was fired because I was promoting Zenni, which made me LIVID. I never once promoted them, and I actually always bash them because their glasses SUCK and the only reason I had them is because I wanted a blue light filter for gaming and I didn't want them on my everyday, or pay $300 of them at my office. We tell every patient they suck, and they should get nice glasses for everyday, especially people with a high RX, high cyl, or progressives. So now I'm thinking he got that impression from me wearing my Zenni glasses for 2 hours in the office, again with no visible logo, and I'm still livid, because if he did, he should've said something to me about it, instead of firing me. Now I'm mad and want to get to the bottom of this. I email Dr. M, to hear her side and she stuck with what was originally said, and said at the end that I was laid off, not fired, and I could collect unemployment. I made a Tiktok making fun of what she said with the Stewie voice over of "Oh hold on Louis just texted you, do you want meatballs or burgers for dinner… I'll text back for you, same thing bitch, just different shapes" with the caption of "When your boss says you weren't fired, you were laid off". Which by the way, I do know the difference, but either way, I no longer had a job. AND GUESS WHO FOUND IT, you guess it, my fucking former boss, and she emailed me about, super. She didn't take offense, she just explained the difference to me, but either way, still embarrassing. My dad also texted me about it, which I did not answer, because he didn't hasn’t apologized to me.
I filed for unemployment, and it has yet to be approved 2 weeks later. I told Eric not to worry about household chores because I don't have a job and I can handle it while he works. My mom has been BEGGING me to come down to the Cape with my family, I said won't because, A.) there's no where for me to sleep. B.) I don't have a job, therefore can't spent a ton of money, C.) my mom likes to push every button of mine when she's drunk and then wonder why I'm being a bitch, and D.) there's nothing up there that I haven't done already. My whole family went though, and now that my brother is up there, my house is like straight up haunted. I woke up to the sound of something hitting my bed twice at 4:23 AM, and it definitely was not in my dream, it didn't match up to my dream. Then yesterday, I was sitting in the living room and I heard the fire alarm in the basement go off, and as soon as I opened the basement door, it just stopped. Nothing was wrong down there in the first place, and I constantly hear creaks upstairs like someone is walking when they only have their 5 pound cat up there. It's been 2 weeks since I applied for unemployment and I still haven't gotten paid, so I called yesterday and they said that my employer had to finish paperwork, so I emailed her and let her know. She said there's nothing on her end to do, so I called again today. They said that there is an overdue form and she needs to call this number. Told her, and she called and they said there's nothing for her to fill out and my name isn't even popping up under her employer unemployment, so something went wrong down the line, that we're both not sure of.
And the cherry on top…. Eric made an arrest yesterday, and everything was fine and dandy until his LT called this morning, and he had to go into the station. He was told it was a "bad arrest", and I want to clarify, that he arrested a dude for assault and battery that violated a restraining order, BUT, it wasn't in our city, where he works to it was a bad arrest, ONLY because of that. So, now he had to write a letter to the chief and to the union lawyer, along with the other officer at the scene and the LT that approved his report, and we're a little unsure of what's going to happen next and we've both been stressed all day about it. He's doing better now and hanging out, but I can't destress ever.
So these last two weeks have been absolutely horrible and I want to just have ONE GOOD DAY in my time off from not having a job!!

Happy New Year - Yoosung
Happy new year everyone! Hope this year you and your loved ones are happy and healthy. And hopefully we can find 3D people to fall in love w too!
Summary: you’ve had a crush on Yoosung for way too long. Maybe you’ll make your move tonight when it hits midnight? Maybe...
“Hi Princess!” Zen greeted you, lifting you up into a big hug. “Can you believe it’s almost the new year?”
“Honestly I can’t. This year went by so fast!”
He set you down. “I can’t believe you only joined the RFA this year.”
“I know right?” You pulled slightly on the sleeves of your shirt. “It feels like I’ve known you all my whole life.”
“How about this year we do more parties? Or hangouts in general. I don’t like that we’ve only gotten to hang out a handful of times this year,” he pouted.
You rolled your eyes. “Of course!” You began to walk into the event. “Is everyone here already?”
“Yup!” He lead you through the main entrance. “Yoosung keeps looking up at the door. I think he’s been waiting for you.”
“I highly doubt it,” you told yourself more than him. “I’m sure he’s just excited to meet the LOLOL guest I invited.”
Your eyes locked with Yoosung’s and he rushed over. “Sure, Yeah right,” Zen teased.
Yoosung pulled you into a hug. “Happy New Year! Well, almost. I was wondering when you’d show up.”
“Oh! Well I’m here now. You look nice,” you complimented, eyes glancing over his navy suit. It was well-fitted to his body. Jumin must’ve made an investment in him.
“I’ll get us some drinks,” Zen offered, nudging you as he left. You rolled your eyes.
Seven practically skipped over to the two of you. “Hey! You look...” he glanced at Yoosung, then back at you, “Pretty.”
Yoosung choked on air. “Yes! You do. I was just about to say that.”
“Oh, it’s nothing. It’s not even new,” you shrugged, referencing your outfit.
“I could always get you something new next time,” a deep voice said behind you. Jumin. You refused to jump, even though his presence had startled you.
You turned to face him, a smile on your face. “I’m good with this. Thank you though!”
Jaehee was next to him, giving you an awkward wave.
“Ugh. Just because you offer to buy her things doesn’t mean you’re going to get to take her on a date.” Another voice behind you. That was Zen. You scooted back a little bit, forming a circle with your friends so you could stop being startled every time. “I won’t let you.” Zen continued, placing an arm protectively around your waist.
You didn’t even have a crush on Zen. But your cheeks were heating up. He was super overprotective like an older brother. It didn’t help how handsome he was. You scooted away just a little. “I’m okay Zenny. I can take care of myself,” you grinned, using your nickname on him.
He reached to the table behind him and picked up a drink, handing it to you. “This is yours by the way!” You reached to grab it, but he pulled his hand back a little, waving his finger. “Ah ah ah. Remember, you shouldn’t take drinks from guys. Except you can trust me.”
“That makes... startlingly little sense,” Seven commented.
Still, you knew Zen was just being his overprotective self and took the drink. He’d never spike your drink. None of the RFA members would.
“So,” Seven started. This couldn’t be good. “Are you all going to start off the new year the right way?”
“What’s the right way?” Yoosung asked. Pure sweet boy. He was perfect. You were already blushing at Seven’s question.
“You kiss someone at midnight of course! It’s a thing,” Zen explained.
“Maybe Jumin and Zen will finally kiss,” you teased.
Jumin stiffened. “This conversation is idiotic,” he groaned, then left the circle. Jaehee frowned, then followed, clipboard in hand.
“Is that really a thing? Or are you two just messing with me,” Yoosung asked, a small pout on his face. It was like he had learned that those two liked to mess with him.
“No, this is real. Although you don’t really have to do it. Champagne toast works just as well,” you shrugged.
“Have you ever done it?” Yoosung asked timidly, unable to meet your eye.
“I guess? When I was dating this one guy a long time ago. But not at a party or anything like this.” You knew your face was flushed. It was embarrassing talking about it. “I don’t know... it’s not necessary or anything.”
“You’ve had a boyfriend before!?” Yoosung asked in shock. Zen and Seven laughed out loud.
“Yeah of course. Like in high school and stuff.”
“Oh...” his face was bright red. “I’ve never had a girlfriend. I’ve never even kissed someone.”
It broke your heart. Who wouldn’t want to kiss Yoosung? Uh, you mean... uh... Still, it was sad. “Don’t worry! I’m sure you just need to find that special someone!” You encouraged him.
“Yeah. Maybe she’s closer than you think,” Seven added suggestively, sending you a wink. Was it really this obvious!?
You drank the rest of your drink quickly. “I’ve gotta get more. I’m gonna, uh, go mingle with the guests!” You excused yourself, desperate to get away from your two wingmen.
Mingling made you feel better. Until it got closer to midnight. Seven loomed behind you during a conversation. “It’s 11:45,” he whispered ominously in your ear. It made you shiver.
“5 minutes til New Years!” Zen cheered to you, handing you another glass of champagne. “If you’re nervous, you can just drink instead. That’s as good a choice as any.”
“Are you even kissing someone? I don’t know why all this pressure is on me.”
He laughed. “Of course not. The press would go crazy! But do it for me. It’d be fun.”
You sighed, excusing yourself to get some air. You stepped outside the event, leaning back against the wall of the building. Your feet hurt from your shoes. You were tired and you didn’t wanna be here. And you especially didn’t want to feel pressured. You took a big gulp do your champagne. You needed more alcohol.
“You needed a break too?” Yoosung asked, walking over to you, glass of his own in hand.
You sighed, nodding. It was freezing outside, but it felt nice. It was warm in there and stuffy. You needed something to wake you up. “There’s so much pressure to start the new year out right. I miss when I was a kid and slept right through the parties.”
“That was fun,” he chuckled. “My parents always had their friends over. I hung out with their kids and we all crashed before 11.”
“Oh I felt that.” You took another big drink. “My head hurts and I’m tired.”
“You’re telling me. I’m so freaking nervous,” he whined, shoving his empty hand into his coat pocket.
“Don’t be nervous,” you giggled. “It’s just a countdown. Then people cheering. Then you can go home and fall fast asleep.” Yeah... you needed to tell yourself that too. You felt a shiver run over you. Before you could stop him, Yoosung was trading his glass between his hands to shrug off his jacket.
“Oh! I’m okay,” you assured him. It didn’t stop him though. He wrapped his jacket around your shoulders, champagne sloshing from his glass from the motion.
He chuckled. “It’s no fair guys have to wear 7 layers and you’re stuck in this, freezing.” He pulled the jacket on your shoulders further, ensuring it wouldn’t fall off.
And then his watch went off.
He still was grasping his jacket on you, trying to fix it. “It’s midnight,” he stated awkwardly. He let go of his jacket and took an anxious half step back, noticing how close you were moments before.
“Oh! I-“ you held out your glass, clinking it against his. “Happy New Year Yoosung.” You downed the entire glass of champagne. Yoosung gingerly took a sip. Then he looked at the ground. Then glanced at you. Then his glass. Then you.
And then you took a step towards him. You were going to kiss him. You could do this !! Worst case you could blame it on the alcohol.
And then he took a step towards you simultaneously. And then your foreheads bumped. You laughed out loud, your free hand moving to cup your forehead. It hurt. Yoosung’s face was bright red. He took your empty glass from you, bending down to set both your glasses on the ground. He stood back up to face you.
“Happy New Year,” he whispered, his face so so close to your own you could taste the champagne in his mouth, without your lips even touching. One of his hands moved to cup your face, the other pulling slightly on his suit jacket, resting on your shoulders.
You shut your eyes and leaned forward, lips meeting his. His lips were so soft, as though never having gone through the abuse of kissing in the past preserved their baby soft feel. Where were you supposed to put your hands!? You rested them on his chest, by his shoulders. It was too soon when he pulled away, the stupidest smile on his face.
“I- I love you,” he choked out, his face bright bright red. “And it’s okay if you only wanted to kiss me because it’s New Years or whatever but... I just wanted to tell you. That I think about you all the time. That I wait for you to call. That I stared at the door to this event for like an hour because I was waiting for you to show up. That I-“
You grabbed his tie and pulled him back to you, pulling his lips back to yours. He let out a whimper, but caught on quickly, hand going back to lightly stroke your hair, careful not to mess up the style you had worked on.
“It worked!”
You broke away from Yoosung, turning on your heel to glare at Zen and Seven, who were currently toasting to their success.
Yoosung was trying to stutter out some form of a remark, but failing. You continued to glare at them. “Go away. I have to kiss my boyfriend some more.”
“Your b-boyfriend?” Yoosung asked, hands shaking as he grabbed your hand and pulled you back to face him.
“If... you’d like. I love you too, Yoosung.”
He let go of your hand, grabbing the champagne glasses from the ground, pushing each into the hands of the boys staring at you. “Go put these away or something.” He was pushing them back through the door. “Leave us alone!!!”
“Have fun kiddos,” Seven teased, winking in your direction.
“Stay safe!” Zen called.
Yoosung hid his face in his hand momentarily after they left, groaning. “They always know how to ruin a moment.”
“That’s okay,” you grinned, grabbing his hand again and pulling him back in for another kiss. “Happy New Year my boyfriend.”
