liyah amelia grace habibi afzal @foreveralbon
-> when f1 eventually brought sepang back onto the calendar, liyah was fighting for P1 a few laps in when her engineer mentioned sightseeing at KLâs twins towers (the petronas towers). this was a mistake as upon hearing those words, liyah was immediately inhabited by the spirit and earthly energies of her late uncle: muhammad hazam âاعŮابŮâ omar afzal, who passed down his loving lifelong legacy to her via muscle memory and pure instinct aka going back to her roots. anyways, she flung her car towards a corner with banking and projectile launched herself at 346km/h over 60km distance between her and her goal over the span of a shocking 10 minutes and 24 seconds!!! liyah escaped the incident with little injury, but the same cannot be said for those inside the towers (towers as in plural because george russell flew past her into the 2nd tower shortly after). media had an absolute fucking field day

Part 6
âMoneyGram Haas F1 Driver Y/N L/N to join Red Bull Racing next season replacing Sergio Perezâ
I still can't believe this is real. A few weeks ago my career looked dead and all things were pointing at me joining Williams which would have been suicide given the way they are performing this year. But, out of the blue one day during the week off I got a phone call from my manager saying that Christian Horner had asked to speak to me and within the first 5 minutes of us talking he offered me a Red Bull seat for next year. He said that he had been impressed with my efforts at Haas and that I was the ideal candidate which I'm sure it is a massive blow for drivers like Yuki, Liam and Danny but it wasn't my decision and I can't say I'm annoyed that they picked me, but can already tell there might be some jealousy.
The second it was announced my phone began blowing up with messages and calls from everyone. I am a bit nervous about driving with Max, but I won't be intimidated and as George Russell once said âI'm not going to wave him by because he's Max Verstappen in a Red Bullâ.
We are here in Monaco after the Miami Grand Prix where I got P8 and Carlos P11 and Imola where I secured P6 and Carlos P9. The team have brought some major upgrades to Monaco including a new front wing design, a new rear wing and a supposedly stronger monocoque.
âY/N how is the car?â
âDown force is good but this car is just too big for this circuitâ
For many years as Formula 1 has developed there has been much questioning as to whether Monaco should still be on the calendar as the cars have gotten bigger and the track has pretty much remained the same size since the 1950s, a safety car or Red flag is always a possibility here at any point.
In the engineering meeting before Quali there is the usual tense atmosphere but I keep getting distracted by Carlos who keeps messaging me. We have sort of made up and he's only texting me things like:
âThis is so boringâ
âI can't wait for this to endâ
We are on speaking terms but we are nowhere near besties, if anything I'm just keeping my head down for the next 14 races and never looking back at my time at Haas and maybe finally I can save money by stopping the therapy meetings I have had to attend for stress.
There are many reasons as to why I'm sad and happy to leave the team and as I'm sat in the car I look around and see all the engineers that I have got to know so well over my F1 career and realise that I am on my last few races with them. Alex of course gives me the usual fist bump and warm smile. When he found out I was leaving he was the one who was most upset and he promised to try and get a job at Red Bull.
But as I become too transfixed on his light blue eyes I am quickly snapped out of my thoughts:
âGreen Light, the car is ready to goâ
We wait a few minutes before going out and by this time there's so much traffic on the track and during my first flying lap I encounter a sleeping George just sitting on the track in the way which impedes me and means my lap is only good enough for P16.
âYep, fucking George was just sitting on the track not looking behind him, that should be a penaltyâ
âYep copied we are reporting it"
Thankfully on my second run I didn't encounter a sleeping Brit on the track and my second flying lap put me in P4 seeing me through to Q2. In the interval between Q1 and Q2 we make a few setting alterations and the mechanics do a little dance routine to the songs that are playing in the garage to keep me entertained.
I only manage to pass the pit exit line when I hear:
âRed Flag, Red Flag, Verstappen has had a shuntâ
As I pass Max I pray that this isn't a sign as to what my future at the team will be like and if it is I would like to scrap my contract now.
Both me and Carlos make it through to Q3 without much pushing of the car, and with Max out of the session everyone feels a lot calmer. By the end of the session I qualify P3 and Carlos P5 which is probably the closest we have been together on the starting grid all season. Normally one of us is towards the front (normally me) and the other is to the back of the grid.
Me and Carlos agree to go for drinks after qualifying and as we have been seen together in public a lot recently it put people's minds at rest that we don't hate each other despite the accurate rumours that have somehow made their way to the media.
The bar is relatively quiet as you have to be a member to get into and after a while of talking Carlos changes the entire tone of the conversation.
âI have something to sayâ
âSure, go aheadâ
âMe and lando have started speaking againâ
He looks at me as if he's expecting me to have some sort of reaction to it.
âThat's great, why are you telling me though?â
âWell I didn't want things to be awkward and for you to be confused if you randomly saw us talking â
âWhatever you do is your businessâ
âSo are you talking to anyone?â
âNo,â I reply.
It's probably the biggest lie I have ever told, I don't really want to tell him I'm seeing a Formula E driver. I just don't see how it's any of his business and I know he told me he's speaking to Lando but I really couldn't care less.
After a while of speaking we head back to our hotel rooms and I rest my phone against the wall as I take a seat at the desk and start a FaceTime call.
It doesn't take long for him to pick up.
Hey Danâ
âHi love you were awesome todayâ
I'm sure the last person people would expect me to be dating is Dan Ticktum. He's quite unpopular, many people say he has personality issues and is a bit of a dick but the people I have dated in the past all had one thing in common, they are dicks, it's just my type obviously which would explain why none of my relationships last.
âThank you I didn't think you would watchâ
âOf course I would watch you. I am meant to support you and plus you watch everything to do with Formula E so it's only fairâ
We chat for hours talking about the last 2 days as we haven't been able to speak as we have been so busy. When I attended the Chinese E - Prix I wasn't aware that I would meet Dan and we would end up dating, he came to the Italian Grand Prix after we started dating and he said he enjoyed watching me race but he was also pissed off he never made it to F1 but I assured him that he shouldn't discount himself and to keep on pushing.
I eventually clamber into the bed after coming out of the bathroom from my shower and find a random TV show that I don't even get to watch as I fall asleep as soon as it starts.
In the morning I am awoken by my assistant knocking on the door with my outfit for today that I had sent down to be dry cleaned. The early wake up call isn't something I'm majorly overjoyed by and my groan of annoyance makes it obvious. There's an engineering meeting in 1 hour so I have to rush to the track but as the F2 feature race is taking place the paddock is overwhelmed by a tumultuous sea of people.
âSo we have the engineering meeting, some fan engagement and interviews and the raceâ my assistant informs me.
I take my seat in the engineering room next to my engineer and some other team personnel and don the headset which connects us to specialists back in the factory. To make things much more worse Gene is here and as he owns the team me and Carlos have been told to be on our best behaviour.
âY/N and Carlos do you have any concerns or questions about this weekend?â The racing director voices.
âIf me and Carlos end up next to each other and we are trying to attack the car in front will there be a driver swap or is it just race until you overtakeâ I ask knowing full well I won't be participating in any driver swap.
âWell we of course will make that decision based on who has the better pace and what position we are fighting forâ
I collect my cap and head out the back into the fan area where Haas has invited some fans and given them special access, so me and Carlos spend some time talking with them and signing some stuff all whilst the sound of the F2 cars engines dominate the air.
Monaco has always brought out a lot of pageantry with hundreds of celebrities and fans on the track as we start preparing for one of the most esteemed races in motorsports. I have a lovely view of George (who didn't get a penalty for impeding me in quali) and Lewis, the ex-teammates, in front of me in P1 and P2 and Checo who is in P4 next to me.
âRadio Checkâ
âIt's really hot in hereâ
âYep, loud and clear Y/Nâ my engineer replies.
âA quick compound run down everyone has gone hard apart from Ocon, Tsundoa and Verstappen who have gone softâ
âThank you for that very precise information, it's greatly appreciated â I reply with a very strong suggestive undertone.
My eyes dart to the 5 Red lights after the formation lap, concentrating on getting the best start I can.
I get off the line well whereas George encounters some wheel-spin that enables me to pass him. And all is going well until turn 3âŚ
âRed Flag, Ocon and Gasly have shunted they have also collected Zhou with themâ
âCopied. Are they all OK?â
âYep all are fineâ
In the pit lane we essentially get a free pit stop and Monaco is the track where you can make the tyres last as you aren't pushing flat out at any point really so your tires can last pretty much for the entire race.
âY/N just to let you know the restart will be the grid order you started in so we are back down to P3â
âYep regards to the FIA for making things harder for meâ
It's just my luck to make up a place in Monaco and be denied that place after a red flag. It's like the FIA are working against me, but It's not like I've tried to be nice to them or make them like me.
On the restart both Lewis and George have a good start and I can't get ahead of them but I see Carlos coming into my mirror and I have no intention of letting him pass. My engineer must notice as he randomly starts talking in the middle of the turn which is a big no.
âY/N we want to conserve tyres we are looking at Plan Câ
Plan C is running the tires to the end of the race without stopping.
Lap 55 and I'm in second and I have a 12 second gap to Carlos behind and a 0.4 gap to George ahead, Lewis had to retire due to a hydraulic failure. I attempt to overtake George as we approach the Nouvelle Chicane but he defends aggressively and my front right tyre comes off.
âI have a puncture guysâ
âCopy, box, boxâ
Me and George both pit but my stop is quicker as he has to replace his front wing and thankfully there was a massive gap between Carlos and Checo behind and I came out in between the two.
âY/N we are thinking of boxing Carlos if he pits you will have to give back the space.â
âWe didn't discuss that in the meetingâ
âWe said it would change depending on the situationâ
Carlos boxes making me the race leader and having Checo trailing behind me. When Carlos exits the pits he makes numerous attempts to overtake Checo and on much newer tires it's not much of a challenge for him.
âY/N we have 15 Laps to go. Please return the positionâ
âWhy?â I ask.
âIt's would be best for the team if you give back the positionâ
âYou want me to do what's best for the team that screwed me overâ
âY/N I am trying to protect youâ
I don't listen and continue to push on. Increasing the gap to 3.1 seconds.
10 Laps to go: âY/N we need to do it now, if there is a safety car things are going to get really awkwardâ
8 Laps to go: âThe way to do well in this sport is not by yourself it's by playing the team game, please let Carlos byâ
4 Laps to go: âY/N you have proved your point just let him byâ
On the last lap I am sick of hearing the constant yapping of my engineer and concede to their demands and let Carlos by at the Nouvelle Chicane, incredibly pissed.
âYep don't say anything to me or I could be liable to say something I will regretâ
As we cross the line the team are hanging over the pit wall cheering both of us on and whilst Carlos drives close to the wall like most drivers do I go to the complete opposite side. Many could argue I'm being petty but willingly letting someone else pass you to win goes against every racer's natural instinct.
âP2, P2 good jobâ
âYeah whateverâ
I step out the car and head over to the FIA weighing scales and Valtteri comes over to me and says I did the right thing but it doesn't feel like it, because unlike when Valtteri had to follow team orders he was at the top of the standings any way whereas I'm in a mid tier team where every point for me is showing my potential to bigger teams, but I'm off to Red Bull so it doesn't really matter in that sense but my ego is saying otherwise.
In the cool down room I take a seat and watch the race replay making small talk with Checo.
âYou were really fast todayâ Checo comments.
âThanks you were flying at the restart thoughâ I retort.
After watching the incident between me and George it's clear we are both partly to blame so I hold no bad blood against him.
At the conclusion of the podium ceremony I head over to the reporter who I have been told I must speak to:
Reporter: So good result for the team the first 1-2 in the team's history, how does it feel?
Y/N: It feels pretty good for the team we have somehow gone from being a back marker to being in the fight for a top midfield position.
Reporter: Now the question we are all asking is how has Haas, previously a back marker notorious for having an unreliable car with bad pace, managed to secure such good results this year?
Y/N: It's been a lot of hard work and even this year we have had our struggles, in Imola and Miami we had pace issues and only managed to get a few points which wasn't what we wanted. We have been constantly developing the car and talking with specialist departments. And it has been difficult to improve whilst staying within the FIA cost cap but we have somehow managed to stay on track.
Reporter: Now I'm sure you know what's coming next. The team orders. Do you feel it was unfair to give the position to Carlos?
Y/N: At the end of the day it's racing. I don't see why I should just give up the places just because he's my teammate. The team didn't need to pit Carlos but they wanted to get the fastest lap point as well. In my opinion the team got a little bit greedy for points and that's what caused the conflict. But the team obviously wanted Carlos to get his first win with the team and move him up in the standings.
Reporter: Many people have said your attitude over the race sounds a lot like the way Dan Ticktum in Formula E talks. Now you have seen a lot with him so has he influenced your attitude? And what's your relationship there?
Y/N: Well yes we have spent quite a lot of time with each other but I would say he's explicitly influenced the way I talk or act. In terms of our relationship we are just good friends, we have known each other for 4 weeks and have gone out a lot together and got to know each other very well.
Reporter: Some people would call that dating. Do you disagree?
Y/N: Everyone has their own interpretation.
As usual at the end of the race we have the debrief meeting, some race weekends we do it the next day it just depends on the time the race finishes but as the race has finished in the afternoon we get the joy of sitting through a debrief.
Walking into the room there is a load of data on the screens and Gene is standing at the front with Guenther. After everyone arrives he does a massive speech about how well we have done and made changes from last year and how good it is for Carlos to achieve his maiden win with the team.
âI can't believe they didn't even acknowledge the fact Carlos wouldn't have won if you didn't give the position backâ Alex says in a whisper.
At the conclusion of the meeting Guenther asks me to stand behind, I get deja vu from being at school when I would have to stay behind from class more than likely because I fell asleep after being up all night travelling back from a karting race.
âLook I appreciate you eventually following the order but you can't do that again. It's overshadowed Carlosâ first win and with all due you respect you acted like a childâ
âI think you forget Guenther I turned down a Sauber offer that would have seen me go to Audi when they join. I turned that down because you practically begged me to stay. I stayed with the team even after a crazy Russian driver drove into me on track and his mad father who was practically threatening to set half the fucking Kremlin officials on me for outperforming his son and you stood by and did nothing because he was the main investor if you had come to me I would have told him to âfuck offâ for you. So please don't lecture me about being mature and doing what's best for the team when I have always put this team first despite it giving me nothing in return apart from a very expensive therapist bill, probably being on some Russians's hit list, and a contract termination â
As I'm packing my bag with my stuff Carlos enters my room holding my folder that I must have left in the garage. Genuther has gone mad at me for losing that thing before as it contains lots of documents about the car, the team and other confidential stuff we don't want other teams getting a hold of.
âAh thanks you're a lifesaverâ I say reaching to grab the folder from his hands, but he retracts his arm.
âWhy didn't you tell me that you and Dan Ticktum were dating?â he asks.
I again go to reach for the folder and he moves his arm further back.
âI just didn't see how it's any of your business and before you say that you told me about Lando, I never asked.â
âThat's not the reason, it's something different than that.â
âThere really no other reason Carlos you are just paranoidâ
âThere's no reason someone like you would date Dan Ticktumâ
âWhat's that supposed to mean?â I say, raising my voice slightly.
âHe's a dickhead who's going to break your heart and you know it, if you want attention you could at least date someone who cares about you at least. Fuck, even Alex would love you more than Danâ
âCarlos just leaveâ
âFine but don't say I didn't warn youâ
Guentherâs talk and Carlosâ rant has pissed me off so I head back to my hotel and make a few calls to get out of here. We have another week's break before Spain and I intend to just spend it at home. I eventually manage to arrange a flight with the charter company that is sponsoring Haas and make my way to Nice to the private airport.
Before I leave George manages to catch up with me and evidently Carlos has spoken to him by the trajectory of the conversation where he is evidently hinting at something but is too scared to say it outright.
âAre you heading back already?â
âYeah I just need to spend some time at homeâ
âAre you OK?â he questions.
âYes I'm fineâ I reply bluntly.
âSo you and Dan huh?â
âGeorge, what do you want? All these small talk questions really aren't amusing me?â
âI just want to check you're fine and doing the right thing with Dan?â
âGeorge I am fine and I don't know if I'm doing the right thing with Dan but I'm an adult and I will learn from my mistakes if it isn't right. Now if you don't mind I have to catch a flightâ
I was hoping to join a team that would have meant I didn't have to spend so much time in England because the weather is as Bipolar as me. But being with Red Bull means that's not happening.
I feel a sense of relief opening my apartment door that has become kind of stiff to open, elucidating how little time I have to come home.
There is a mountain of junk mail on the floor despite the very clear sign on the door saying no junk mail but apparently the people who work for the post office in the UK canât read, and my assistant here promised to come by and check my mail but obviously she has been slacking but I donât really care it's not like anything important comes by post anymore.
It's only early morning so I head straight to bed and the pattering of rain starts hitting the window.
âGreatâ I sigh, turning over.
I have no idea what I'm going to be doing whilst I'm here but I know I have some legal meetings with Red Bull and Haas regarding contracts which will be a lot of fun. Just kidding, it will be hours of banal meetings listening to tedious talks, from tedious people about tedious things.
I drag myself from my bed and decide to go for a run which is out of character for me but there is nothing more freeing than a run in the rain. I turn my headphones on and started playing a random saved playlist on Spotify. I live really near Silverstone like a 20 minute walk or a 15 minute run at my incredibly slow running pace . As I run past the track I can see some of the grandstands and other features that have been set up for the Grand Prix in a few weeks time.
During my run I happen to spot the same car drive by me 3 or 4 times as I run along one of the main roads but I don't think much of it as it isn't easy to get lost around here so I assume they are just looking for their destination and even when I start heading back home and see the same car I don't think much of it.
As I walk up to my apartment I see my door open and as much as in this situation I'm sure I should turn around and call the police I enter the apartment with the utmost caution. It's empty and nothing has been taken. Not that there's anything to take as all my valuable possessions which are literally my trophies and helmets are stored in a secure unit.
There is a single note on the kitchen side and it saysâŚ.

2009 season summary
Soooo. There were new regulations that year and McLaren had a shit car. Like a really really shit car. Honda became Brawn and they just. Wiped the floors with everybody else (at least in the beginning, because during the second part of the season things werenât as easy).
Anyway, honestly this season was difficult to watch. In part because McLaren and Lewis were doing so poorly in the first half of the season (the German GP :( ), in part because a lot of the races were boring imo. The Brazilian GP is a must watch though.
But it was also a really, really important year I think. Lewis wasnât used to having a shit car. It was very interesting to see how he coped with that. He never became bitter (at least not in public). He stayed positive, tried to hype the team up. But during the first few races, you can see in his attitude and smile that heâs just... disheartened. Heâs very uncomfortable answering to journalists (I mean... the McLaren scandal after the Australian GP probably didnât help). Itâs like heâs ashamed of the car. And when heâs uncomfortable, he scratches his ears, his temples, his neck, itâs very obvious lol.
Of course, that interview in Bahrain when he was asked if he still enjoyed being an F1 driver and answered no was a big moment that season, imo. The things he said really resonate with the current 2022 situation. Itâs eerie.
But then, and thatâs why I said this season was so important, you can see his work ethic kick in. He relaxes at some point. The car is what it is. What matters to him isnât winning anymore but, as he puts it, âfulfilling his potential as a driverâ. You can tell that if he did everything he could, heâs satisfied, wherever he ends up in the standings in the end. He pushes his team hard, he talks directly to the guys at the factory, he mentions carrying the energy of the whole garage on his back, he sees it as part of his duty as a driver.
And it works. It fucking does. The people at the factory come up with some actual fucking magic. And the wheel turns, and it just clicks. Heâs back on top again! He says it himself in Brazil : heâs grown so much that year, as a driver and as a person. And it shows. But you can tell he still has a lot to learn as in the second part of the season his own mistakes cost him a lot.
Other big moments of that season? The FOTA-FIA standoff, and CRASHGATE of course. Also Seb is really soaring.
Anyway, Iâve now completed about 18% of my rewatch.
2010, here we go!

Summary: Time for some home GPs :D
A/N:Â Just a reminder, Max talks Dutch with Oliver when heâs younger/alone with him. Apart from a few Dutch sentences/words, that should be clear enough through context, but will also be translated in the end notes, most of it is written in English but in italics to indicate that itâs spoken in Dutch.

2) Melbourne, Zandvoort & Monaco 2024
Melbourne 2024
Oliverâs tiny hand is clutching onto his own as they walk into the Red Bull garage, big headphones already covering his ears as engines are revved. His wispy blond hair is almost white from the sun it had gotten during the winter break spend in Australia and is now starting to fall over his eyes, in desperate need of a haircut.
âYou stay with Vicky yeah, Papaâs gotta go drive the car now,â he said trying to push the strands of hair from Oliverâs eyes one last time.
ââkay Papa, be safe,â the little boy mumbled back, the words always tugging at his heartstrings. Heâd picked them up from his mum, the words always said by her every time he stepped into the car, whether it was in person or via text.
âI will Oli.â
After 2 weeks of testing in Spain and plenty of time spend in the Red Bull and Renault factories, winter break was now really over, the first practice session of the season about to start. Pre-season hadnât been the easiest on them. Even with Enstone and Milton Keynes only being an hour apart, their rental place somewhere in the middle, theyâd barely gotten the time to spend together, both of them exhausted from long days at the factory. Theyâd both crashed pretty much as soon as theyâd managed to get Oli to sleep. At least with testing theyâd had to be on track opposite each other, one of them getting to spend their day with their son as the other worked up miles on the racetrack. Â
Now though they were finally back in Melbourne. He loved Melbourne, a fresh start to a new season where everything was possible again. Over the years heâd been with Daniel it had become sort of a home race for him as well. A home race without the busy schedule that Zandvoort or Spa brought. While for Daniel it meant a jam packed schedule and barely any time for his family, for Max it meant he got to spend some time with his extended family. Grace, Joe and Michelle always happy to have Max to keep them company whilst their son and brother was rushed about the circuit. And of course these last two years they had all been excited to get to spend some extra time with their grandson and nephew as well.
He grabs his helmet and glances back at his son one more time, the boy happily playing with the toy car his assistant had given him. The bright yellow Renault shirt heâs wearing is clashing terribly with the colours around them, but even though Oliver had insisted on going with his papa today heâd refused to wear the Red Bull shirt to go along with it. No amount of playful teasing from the Red Bull crew had made him want to change it either, the boy happy in his ânana shirt.
With how quickly Oliver seemed to change his mind nowadays, the terrible twos finally rearing their ugly head just a few months before he would turn three, he would probably insist on wearing his Red Bull shirt at Renault on race day. He might be a handful at times, but Max loved him with all his being and he loved having him at the track with them.
---
Come race day heâs on his own at the garage, Oliver at Renault to spend time with Danielâs family, itâs his home grand prix after all. It doesnât mean Max doesnât miss seeing his boy at the back of the garage though, his toothy grin the last thing he sees before strapping himself into the number 33 car. It makes him miss the old days sometimes, the days when heâd only have to look towards the other side of the garage to see curly hair and a bright smile. What heâd give to have been able to share that with his son, their son. Both of them giving him a kiss on each cheek for luck before they jumped into the car on their respective side of the garage.
It would never be like that, Alex now a permanent fixture on the other side of the garage, the man now his teammate for longer than Daniel had been. Them parting ways, so to speak, had probably been for the best. Made it easier for them to separate work and home, their battles now with their respective teams rather than each other. Â
Heâs shaken from his thought by Tom handing him his helmet, reminding him that there was installation lap to be driven, the clock steadily ticking down to 16.10. Â
Zandvoort 2024
Home races were always special, while he was lucky to have fans come out in droves to quite a few tracks, the stands turning orange all over the world, Zandvoort was something else. The success of the first three years had made sure that Zandvoort would be a permanent fixture on the race calendar for the foreseeable future. And whilst the crowd was still mostly orange in its 5th year on the calendar he was happy to see that more and more different coloured specks had started to show up in the crowd. Itâs what made the sport so special after all, there werenât just the fans of two teams there like in football, there was a mixture of fans, even people who changed their shirts on each day of the weekend not being able to choose a favourite.
It was still all very hectic though, heâd flown into the Netherlands on Monday and had had pretty much every minute of his day scheduled from then on. Daniel and Oliver had followed on Wednesday, the hugs from his family a welcome reprieve from all the formal handshakes and (fake) nicery from the last few days.
Today hadnât been much better, a room of bored looking media people staring at him, Lando, George and Daniil followed by a multitude of microphones waiting for him in the press pen. The pen was empty of other drivers by the time heâd been done with his last interview. Heâd looked over at Vicky expecting her to tell him where he was needed next, but she hadnât had anything planned for the next hour or two. Which is how heâd found himself here, his shoes getting filled with sand as he climbed down from the dune and onto the beach.
It wasnât all that warm yet, the winds were strong and would surely be a big factor during the weekend, making him zip up his hoodie as he walked towards his family. He could see Victoria chasing after Oliver near the shore, his mum and Daniel chatting, sat atop a giant spread out blanket.
None of them had spotted him yet, only Victoria knowing that he had found himself some free time and was coming over, happy to help him surprise the others. He continued walking towards them, his shoes collecting more and more sand, and saw Oliver turn around still trying to avoid getting caught by his auntie. The second Oliver spotted him he was running towards him, yelling out Papa! and alerting the others of his presence. Max grinned as Oli jumped into his arms, pressing a kiss against the boyâs forehead as his son immediately started telling him all about his day.
âHey,â he greeted his family, settling down next to them, Oli cuddling up on his lap.
âHey, I thought you were busy for the rest of the day?â Dan asked him before pressing a kiss against his lips, a curious smile on his face when they drew apart again.
âI thought so as well, but Vicky doesnât need me again until 4. Victoria told me you guys were on the beach and I didnât want to miss that did I?â He addressed the last part to Oliver, bouncing him in his lap a little and ruffling his hair making the little boy giggle.
âPapa, kasteel?â
âYou want to build a castle? Okay then go get your bucket.â
Soon enough not only his shoes were filled with sand, his hair and clothes covered by the sand as well, but an impressive, if he said so himself, sandcastle was standing proud in front of him.
âCome on Oli, letâs fill the moat to finish our showpiece.â He hoisted Oliver up onto his shoulders and ran over towards the sea, the plastic bucket hitting him in the head as he went, but the giggles floating along the wind more than made up for it.
The racing started tomorrow, the campsites already filled with thousands of people dressed in orange, but this right now is what he loved the most. He had never expected himself to love something more than racing, his whole life had been revolved around the sport, but now that he had this, a family of his own heâd give it up in a second if someone made him choose.
Monaco 2024
âHello little man, are you lost?â They heard Lewis say, Oliver having ran right into him, the Britâs hands reaching out for him before he could tumble over.
âUp?â Oli requested, hands already reaching up for Lewis, head tilted backwards with what were surely his best puppy dog eyes. They could see the other man melt before their eyes, one of Oliverâs many victims this weekend.
âYou donât have to,â Dan jumps in, but before the words could even fully leave his mouth Oliver was already in Lewisâ arms, the little boy happily snuggling his head against the manâs chest.
âItâs okay, I love kids, makes me miss when my cousins were this small. Donât get me wrong I love playing soccer and games with them, but most of them are at that age now where theyâre refusing cuddles.â
âOh but you havenât seen a two-year-old throwing a tantrum huh, uncle,â Dan said with a wink, clearly not having forgotten the fit Oliver threw earlier that morning, the boy refusing to eat his toast because it was cut into squares instead of triangles. Daniel had been close to pulling his hair out before Max had come into the kitchen after his shower and reminded him that squares could be cut into triangles, the boyâs cries stopping as soon as Max had cut the first one in half. Â
Dan and Lewis fall into an easy conversation then, Oli sucking his thumb, eyes flicking between the two adults intently. Max should probably join in, instead of just standing here, but he canât help but let his mind wander. Heâd seen Lewis change a bit during this season, it was only the 7th race of the year, but the fact that these would be Lewisâ last races had shown a different side of the man. He would never refuse to talk to you if you started up a conversation before, but would usually stick to himself if he could. Nowadays he was happy to mingle with the rest of them. Noise cancelling earphones exchanged for friendly conversations on the drivers parades, relaxed walks through the paddock rather than quick scooter rides right into the garage. It made Max wonder whether he would change, once his time came. Not that that would be any time soon if it was up to him. Â
Lewisâ announcement hadnât exactly been a shock to people, 39 was already a pretty old age to retire, if you excluded Kimi of course. Still the knowledge that Lewisâ records would soon be up there ready and waiting for someone else to take them away again, had made the press go into overdrive, churning out article after article. Max didnât really care about that though, he cared about the conversations heâd had with Lewis over the last few race weekends. About his plans to start his own fashion company, not just a fashion line but a proper brand of his own. The plan to travel to all the countries theyâd been to so often but had never really gotten the chance to see properly. The wish for a child of his own, the registration for the adoption agency ready to be send off.
Heâd not always liked the other man, had had more than enough moments where heâd despised him, but seeing him like this, happily chatting with Dan, Oliver now asleep in his arms, it made Max realise he would really miss him next year.
---
âPapa, kijk!â Oliver exclaimed as they crossed the street towards the harbour, the Red Bull yacht already pumping out music. That wasnât what the little boy had spotted though, no heâd spotted the giant inflatable unicorn floating in the swimming pool.
âWat is dat dan Oli?â Theyâd pretty early on decided to try and raise Oliver bilingual, Max talking only Dutch to him to try and get him to pick up Maxâs native language alongside English. Max often tried to use German as well, after all now was the best time to try and teach their son more languages.
âEehoon.â
âEenhoorn, Oliver,â Max corrected him gently, the word still sounding silly to him in his mother tongue as well. âYou want to go swimming sweetie?â Â
Oliver nodded his head so excitedly Max was almost afraid it was gonna fall off. They had some time to spare between the last free practice session and qualifying. Whilst Oliver had of course been with them last year, this was the first time he really got to take in the Monaco grand prix weekend. The streets of his home transformed into the tracks where his fathers got to race their fast cars. He still didnât understand it fully, the city not all that recognisable anymore after all, and this wasnât the part of the city where they actually lived, but seeing the excitement on their sonâs face never failed to make them melt.
They quickly changed Oliver into his swimming trunks, Red Bull branded floaties wrapped around his arms to go along with them. As soon as they reached the pool he was pointing at the giant unicorn again, clearly wanting to sit on it. They waited for it to slowly float its way to the side of the pool, the currents of people wading their feet in the water making it bop up and down in every direction before Daniel shouted for someone to push it towards them. No one was surprised to see Daniel there, even with it having been six years now since heâd gotten to swim into this pool himself. It wasnât uncommon to see Daniel back at the Red Bull hospitality these days though, nor Max at Renaultâs for that matter, having a child who wanted to see both of his daddies would do that for you.
Oliverâs giggles were barely audible over the music coming from the dj booth on the other side of the deck, but they managed to go straight through to Maxâs heart anyway. The boy was now sat atop the floating animal, clutching onto its rainbow mane as Daniel pushed it around the edge of the pool, not caring about the people sitting in their way.
They finished the lap of the pool, Max taking hold of the unicorn as Dan took his shoes off to join him on the edge of the pool, and just taking it all in for a while.
âPapa, kiss!â Oliver requested excitedly, his tiny little body already leaning towards him. Max grabbed hold of him before he could fall off the floatie and pressed a kiss to his sonâs lips. Â They would need to go and prepare for quali soon, but right now as he sat on the edge of the pool, his feet in the warm water, his son happily splashing his feet into the water as he sat atop his unicorn, he couldnât help but wish for more time. MARTIN SAMUEL: We win the World Cup⌠and now the ECB sideline 50-over game
In the opinion of Sir Clive Woodward and many others, the RFU weakened the legacy of England Rugby World Cup
Imagine that on his return from Australia the governing body had decided to leave rugby, almost in its entirety.
Imagine that they had come up with a whole new format of the game and decided to focus on that. Fives. Eights. Twelve year olds. Imagine that, just as England had reached the height of the sport, it had become superfluous.
<img id = "i-246567b2c7caffab" src = "https://ift.tt/2k6d62T -7249871-image-a-17_1563218430395.jpg "height =" 453 "width =" 634 "alt =" The success of the Cricket World Cup in England is in danger of being reduced by The Hundred of the ECB. by The Hundred of the ECB "
The success of the Cricket World Cup in England is about to be diminished by The Hundred
Welcome to English cricket, 2019
Do you think this is the beginning of a brave new era? Think again. From here, the best English cricket players do not play 50-over matches unless they are selected for the national team or the Lions. Indeed, the only players who will gain experience with the format used for cricket & # 39; s World Cup will be those who are considered inferior. Those who are unwanted by the shiny new franchises of The Hundred
The ECB decided this game, with its merged teams in the city and the supposed attraction for those who don't like cricket â not a single ball of it, let alone 100 â is the future of money spinning. And the victim, squeezed in this desperate search for new markets, is the elongated, short play of forms. The 50 overs used at the World Cup.
There are eight of these new franchises and after three overseas players have been recruited for each, the clubs will need squadrons of 15. So 12 English players per team. Multiplying eight by 12 gets 96. So, the 96 best white ball cricketers available for England will never play the World Cup version of the game from next summer until they are elevated to international level. This is the equivalent of six-and-a-bit World Cup squadrons.
The Andy Murray and Serena Williams found knowledge and experience of any size to be essential this year in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon. On paper, Murray and Williams seemed unstoppable as a double play. In reality, they were defeated in round three by Nicole Melichar and Bruno Soares, two players whose impact is negligible.
<img id = "i-e2c428b263d36a38" src = "https://ift.tt/2NUmNiR image-a-19_1563218516762.jpg "height =" 636 "width =" 634 "alt =" The 100-ball format means that the best 50-over players in England will no longer play that game "-balformat means the best 50-over England players no longer play that game "
The 100-ball format means the best 50-over England players will no longer play that game
Melichar is in seventh place in singles tennis, Soares has never been higher than 221 and that was 15 years ago, they are not the same as they are, but they are difficult, and as such they comfortably defeated two players with 42 Grand Slam- titles â single and double rooms â between them.
There is no relevant evidence in cricket either, and the ECB left it between 2011 and 2013 5 0-ball game and was rewarded with a 2015 World Cup achievement that redefined incompetence. To finish four in a seven-team group, England registered two wins â against Afghanistan and Scotland â and failed to reach the quarter-finals.
Highlights? The 111-run defeat by Australia at the MCG, Sri Lanka surpasses England & 309-run total for losing a wicket, being blown out 15 runs short of the 275 set by Bangladesh.
It was this debacle that provoked the revolution in England's approach, culminating in the World Cup victory. How could the ECB have witnessed this story and decide to leave 50-over cricket for the second time it would go?
Future Test players can still sharpen their talent for building long turns, or for exhausting spells of concentration in the field, in the provincial championship. Those who excel in the shortest forms of the one-day game are now particularly well cared for.
The public doesn't like the 50s, but it won't happen. â about game, it is argued. Too long. Too boring. This is the ECB's mantra cricket for people who don't like cricket. The marketing department asked people who didn't look at cricket what they didn't like about cricket and most of them said the cricket, so they try to get rid of it.
<img id = "i-ae88386914ad3258" src = "https://ift.tt/32sIqtP -7249871-image-a-18_1563218463407.jpg "height =" 931 "width =" 634 "alt =" Jofra Archer celebrates after England won the Cricket World Cup by playing with Lord & # 39; s "
Jofra Archer celebrates after England won the Cricket World Cup during a fashion show at Lord & # 39; s
If they can remove the cricket from cricket, they think, people will start watching how it is played. It's a genius idea, you have to admit.
Families are the target audience, so alcohol will also be banned, otherwise people will just start chatting. Anyway, it's not that someone might need a glass of chardonnay to relieve the tension from taking a group of school kids to a sport they all hate. That is why The Hundred emphasizes how little cricket there will be. & # 39; No, seriously, you can do this sober. It is not that we are going to hit or something. & # 39;
But strangely enough, if this World Cup has proven one thing, it is that the modern 50-over-white ball game can be super entertaining and has benefited immensely from the rise of Twenty20. It is now faster, more furious, but with enough subtlety and nuance to captivate those who love test matches. They could be called cricket fans.
Even the final, played on a slow pitch by the New Zealand team whose success is based on defending low scores with stingy bowling, gently cooked to an astonishing climax. The competition can sometimes look like a relapse until a few decades ago when too many teams tried to build a day of innings because they might score, but the last hour was sport at its very best.
Alternatively, we can participate in those who demand immediate satisfaction and reduce cricket to a series of Instagram moments. Why have 50 overs? Cut directly to a super.
There are many reasons to be wary of The Hundred, but it is more worrying than one of them is the nonchalant contempt of the ECB for the World Cup that their players have just won.
The lap of honor of the English team was conducted on the Oval on Monday amid hundreds of happy school children. What was the ECB's message to them? & # 39; This is cricket, children.
It's very difficult to play with your friends, easy to make negative comparisons between the women's final in Wimbledon in 56 minutes, and the men's match between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer , which lasted three minutes less than five hours
By the time the men finished their
It is clear that, measured by the time on the field, those on were present on Sunday, paid more for their money.

Yet this looks at the incredible performance of Simona Halep against Serena Williams, certainly one of the most complete individual screenings that the has seen competition.
In her 6-2, 6-2 victory, Halep made only three casual errors and one of those errors is considered debatable.
It was a stunning display of athletic behavior against a champion who has displaced the physical parameters of the sport. And yes, it was short. But that doesn't mean it wasn't sweet.
The strange thing about Lewis Hamilton's tax affairs is that they
Hamilton & # 39; s residence in Monaco is always stopped by a kind of stain on his character in a way that he never was or never is, for other British sports heroes who live there. It is almost as if there is something else that separates him, something else.
& # 39; Was Jenson & # 39; s Britishness ever questioned because he lived in Monaco? & # 39; He wrote Ferdinand. & # 39; No chance. I will tell you why â because I looked the same, sounded similar, dressed in the same way, and walked the same way as the people who raise questions about Hamilton. The level of contempt and racist overtones in doubting Hamilton's patriotism should not be underestimated. "
He is right. No one ever says that Radcliffe was less than British, who now lived in Monaco for two decades, nobody said about Button, or about the British Tour de France winners.
Yet Hamilton constantly fights against negative perceptions, with his tax status used as a blatant moral justification, and he also wears diamond earrings and flamboyant clothing â why can't I be gentle and down-to-earth like all those other Formula 1 drivers?
It is not that it is the best in racing the fastest cars on earth, but that could lead to a man developing an extravagant style.
<img id = "i-a13113f774a1d7b9" src = "https://ift.tt/2NVcz1L" height = " 586 "width =" 634 "alt =" Lewis Hamilton & # 39; s stay in Monaco is always stopped by a kind of stain on his character There "Lewis Hamilton & # 39; s stay in Monaco is always stopped by a kind of stain on his character
Lewis Hamilton & # 39; s residence in Monaco is always held back by a kind of stain on his character
On Silverstone on Sunday, Hamilton won his sixth British Grand Prix, a record for every driver, not just a British citizen. Michael Schumacher, on the other hand, won three. Those who don't understand claim that Hamilton drives the best car. But that is not an accident either. The best drivers end up with the best builders, in the best machine. Hamilton did not demand to drive for Mercedes. They chose him.
Andy Murray, Serena Williams, Tiger Woods, Andy Murray, Andy Murray, Andy Murray, Vijay Singh â he didn't have the right to be good the way he became. Black children from poor families in Stevenage do not become Formula 1 champions.
Hamilton is an outlier, an unprecedented willpower and that is an inspiration, no matter where he puts his hat. & # 39; I am going to all these races and I proudly lift the British flag & # 39 ;, he said. & # 39; There is no one else in this sport who has raised it that high. & # 39;
Indeed.
Bruce Bruce did not play in the era
Bruce & # 39; s exit appears on EFL financial foolishness when Premier League wages exploded. Still, as a former captain of Manchester United and a manager since 1998, now working at his 10th club, he is unlikely to fall short at Christmas. In other words, he is not about the money.
Karren Brady says that Bruce was alone during his stay in Birmingham
So the job in Newcastle will in part be a labor of love. It was his youth club with personal ties.

owner of Sheffield Wednesday, Dejphon Chansiri, almost certainly has more ambitions than Mike Ashley in Newcastle. I would like to invest more â and Bruce knows this â but his hands are bound by a gentle transfer and the fear of punishing further penalties for violating EFL spending rules.
That is why even a low-wage club, an exhausted team, a reputable stingy recruitment policy and a president who would sell in the blink of an eye if a serious offer were to come â we can probably now consider the lord of Abu Dhabi as the last in a long series of pretenders â being viewed by Bruce as the better bet.
The Wednesday fan who confronted him on the sidelines during Saturday's friendship with Lincoln would like to file his complaint with the top managers of the division.
Worldwide glory no warning for Brexit
Jacob Rees-Mogg fourth the victory in the World Cup in a foolish way by trying to make a connection between England's success to Brexit.
& # 39; Clearly we don't need Europe to win & # 39 ;, he brayed and set fire to fire.
Players such as Ben Stokes and Jason Roy were born abroad â New Zealand and South Africa â but came to this country as students and progressed through the English system.

Still arrived Jofra Archer a few months ago as an international international cricket player from Barbados and Trevor Bayliss, the trainer who owes the huge improvement to England in the one-day match, is very much an Australian who will return home after the Ashes series
Indeed, what this England team and their victory To represent more than the petty nationalism of Rees-Mogg is the global nature of modern life and its need for alliances and openness.
if this is the level of understanding of those who hijacked the conservative party and therefore our next government does not venture too much into days like Sunday.
