It can be, and there’s nothing wrong with writing characters who have certain trauma in order to raise awareness towards real people who have experienced that trauma. But that isn’t always have to be the case, and it shouldn’t be assumed that if a writer writes character(s) with certain trauma, they are doing it expressly to ‘raise awareness’.

Look, I'm well aware that the units on nuclear reactors and how they work in high school had a bit of a propaganda element to them, and they probably have downsides. I am also aware that most of the world uses the old-fashioned kind of reactor, that uses different modulator and coolant, and runs on enriched uranium.

But WHY when people are talking about "better nuclear reactors" do they consistently ignore the existance of CANDU reactors? I just watched a video from SciShow of all people that was talking about how thorium reactors have a lot of advantages, and from the way the script was written you'd think that the 1950's-era tech was the only kind that existed. There was a "most of the reactors" mention when talking about them, and that was IT. If you knew nothing about nuclear energy you'd have thought that it was impossible to generate electricity using uranium fission without enriching the fuel, and that the research into a kind of reactor that doesn't need enriched fuel was for the first ever kind of reactor that doesn't need enriched fuel. To the best of my knowledge there are still advantages to thorium reactors, but if you list "you don't have to worry about meltdowns" as an advantage, as if all uranium-fueled reactors are prone to those, you leave people with the impression that thorium is only an improvement over 1950's-era reactors, not an improvement over uranium in general.

I recently did this painting on a pleather jacket. It was my first attempt at this type of art and it took me around 70 hours of slow, steady work.

I've had a lot of people tell me I should make a buisness out of this, because I'm so good. I refuse to, saying no one would buy it for the price it's worth... When they insist, I ask what they think it is worth and people say around $150-300aud or so...

This took me 70 hours of work. At the minimum wage for Australia, of $21 an hour, it should be worth $1400 aud of my time, and that's just to break even in regards to time. That's not taking into consideration the cost of the paints and brushes, or the other stuff I needed for it.

But no, $300 at most is what it's worth to them, the people who insist I can sell it, yet baulk at the price I tell them my time is worth.

Fuck the hustler and gig economy.

Thinking about the time I lost a game of Overwatch and I was so mad about it that I genuinely considered getting into shit with the other team in chat and then realized that it was a colossal waste of my living breathing Human Time and uninstalled Overwatch instead because it was only making me angry.

And then thought about the OTHER time when I was on TikTok and realized I was Not Enjoying Myself and was, in fact, seeing so many sad videos and fake influencer ads that I felt Truly Despondent and then just…Deleted it.

Imo I want my social media /general media experience to be a pleasant break from real world and I get to decide what I get to cull to make that a reality for myself. I highly reccomended it! Life has improved considerably!
