Meet the Bumzedums!

Bumzedums are grotto-dwelling monsters that come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Though they're genderless, as they reproduce by shedding large amounts of their fur, observations of the real world have led plenty of them to take on gender identities based on personal expression.

The main Bumzedum grotto lies just underneath Basil Square, the setting for Mr. Chef's Diner. A main hidden passage in the pantry connects the diner to the grotto where the bumzedums live. Only certain people the Bumzedums trust, specifically furshedders that help the bumzies dance their shedding fur out, know where to find the passage.

The Bumzedum species is known for two things: their love of play and their generally peaceful attitudes towards others. They don't mind getting into a bit of mischief every now and then, however most of them make sure not to cause any grief. There are a few exceptions to this, however, only because there are some Bumzedums (such as Imzy) whose job it is to "create conflict". It's believed this job serves to keep the nest's collective problem-solving skills sharp. Bumzedums are generally shy around people, but not too shy as they have been found to take part in human society purely for survival. However, that's not to say that a lot of Bumzies wouldn't want to make friends with you, because they certainly do!

Most if not all Bumzedums contribute to the nest one way or another. Jobs range from basic ones like foraging for food (Gumzy) and keeping the grotto clean (Kipzy), to more complex ones like controlling the lights of the grotto (Zapzy) and helping other Bumzedums get to sleep (Bloomzy). Some jobs even serve purely as entertainment, such as Melzy the clown and Popzy the storyteller. Despite the broad range of jobs, not a single job is deemed more important than the other, and they try to help each other whenever they can.

announcements and housekeeping

i wanted to announce it yesterday but realized it is never a good idea to do anything that day, so i will say it today! i have an expensive purchase to make, so most likely this month i will be opening three commission slots for $75 each. i have a lot to do this month unfortunately so it will either be the third or last week if i am able, keep an eye out!

i have wanted to post more sketches here for a long time but always struggled because i thought of this as more “professional” than my main, but i don’t want to do that anymore. professional stuff can go in a professional portfolio. this is tumblr. in may i will be going back and separating posts, tagging them by sketch or more polished piece. i am not sure what the tags will be yet but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

i am looking to change the site gestalt is hosted on. this should not affect your experience at all, just save me money. i have been so. so. so busy learning a new skill set and working. after i finish the next update, the rest will be in a much simpler rendering style so that i can actually work on it once a week and finish a page or two every other week, similar to the intermission comic with victor and izek. thank you for understanding

the new skill i have been learning is 3d modeling and animation (and a little compositing) for those not following my main. i’m still not at a place where i’m happy with my progress, but i at least wanted to share my plans for it: i’m animating the interior castle scenes of the epilogue to i strahd (EVENTUALLY) as essentially my “final exam,” but mostly just as demo reel/portfolio work. the storyboard is done, the soundtrack is picked out and edited, but it will be a very long time before it is finished and released because i am doing backgrounds the hard way by painting them (i need to brute force myself to get better at backgrounds and perspectives. this is the only way). i am also only just learning rigging. animation course is next, then making van richten’s model, then making that old man dance. it’s largely just an elaborate rig + model + painting showcase because it is a lot of boring but pretty shots until one small fight scene i added in. once it is finished and released, i will put the van richten model on gumroad or kofi or something. i need someone to make a lot of old man sounds and a line of dialogue or two (my voice is too sultry smooth for this. sorry van richten), but that’s another bridge i will cross when i get there.

i have more speedpaints processed and ready to upload, but they’re all other peoples’ ocs so i’m not comfortable uploading them until i can link to their pages in the description as youtube doesn’t let you link until you are verified. i may just upload them and put the links in a pinned comment for the time being, hadn’t thought of that until typing just now. good plan everyone

there is still one more announcement or two but they haven’t been publicly said elsewhere yet so i don’t think i’m allowed still! soon.
