I really thought this would have been obvious but I clearly need to say it:

If you know a fat person who has suddenly lost weight after being in hospital, DO NOT say anything along the lines of "Oh well, silver linings!"

Maybe just don't make a comment on people's weight?

If you've said, "Oh, you're looking good/well/healthy," and someone says, "Well, I haven't been able to eat anything because I've actually been really ill", DO NOT say "Well, at least something good has come of it!" or "At least there's a little bonus!"

I just don't know how to say it any other way??? Just don't???

Maybe you don't understand it but I prefer being fat to being ill.

I prefer being healthy to losing weight.
