creators in 2017
i was tagged by the lovely @renegade-shepard and gorgeous @effelants for the creators 2017 tag game! thank you both for tagging me and im glad i could celebrate some of my content this year in this post <3
Rules: It’s time to love yourselves! Choose your 5 favorite works you’ve created this year (fics, art, edits, etc!) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you’ve brought into the world in 2017. Tag as many writers/artists/etc as you want (fan or original!) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works. <3
5. holy & broken (hallelujah) - this was the first thing i actually wrote in 2017 after a long block through the later half of 2016. it’s an overwatch fic i should totally finish revolving around the kidnapping of reyes and a character study of jack during the overwatch era. overall, the concept is still quite interesting to me i just lack the inspiration to continue it eleven months later.
4. the dragon age races series - the lovely dragon age discord by @effelants inspired me to keep editing! this was the first product of such inspiration, notably the dalish/elven one got almost 400 notes which was very exciting. i was happy to edit something where i was motivated and something that looked good afterwards.
3. overwatch ocs: fredha, pickle and sven - these three guys were a labour of love and i love where they have developed throughout this year. i had the idea at the start of the year to refresh my overwatch perspective, so to speak, and i know i wanted a crime fighting duo. fredha and pickle were that creation and i love them endlessly. sven is the nemesis to their crime fighting along with @witcherdad‘s counterpart sterling jones.
2. beautiful travels - this stands my most favourite fic i’ve written to date. i wrote it after the doctor who finale where we lost our dear 12th doctor and my emotions were running really high. literally, in one sitting, i wrote these 4k words and they still exist as the most purple, poetic and pretty thing i’ve ever written. unfortunately, no longer exactly canon compliant due to the recent christmas special, but i still love this fic all the same.
1. dragon age origins ocs: avery and nolla - these two girls have been the subject of continuous development for the later half of 2017. again, i owe the dragon age discord many thanks for me working on these ocs with endless love and motivation. i made a fantastic post on avery which got attention, which still continues to stoke me. receiving comments about her development and her uniqueness really was a unique and wonderful thing for me. i also owe the same to nolla, where the amazing @antivancorvo and stunning @herssian bought her to life in two separate portraits - here and here. im still in awe at nolla and how much she’s been celebrated through art, headcanons and general discussion here on tumblr and on the discord. thank you all for letting me develop these ladies into the ether.
im looking forward to 2018 for a whole new year of content! as for tagging, i already tagged a few people throughout discussion, please feel free to do your own post if you haven’t done it already! so, @witcherdad @effelants (i know you tagged me shhh) @antivancorvo and @herssian. otherwise, i’d also like to tag @zeearts / @zeespazz @kisuna-isolet @asaribiotics @dovahkiinshepardtrevelyan @biotictrash. no pressure to do said post, but i love all your content and seeing you celeberating it would certainly make me very happy.
happy new year all!

Ella Fitzgerald - Goody - Goody (High Quality - Remastered)
Happy Father’s day Judgie - was reminded this morning that this was one of my grandfather’s favorite songs. He wrote about it in his book The Agony of Alcoholism.
During my years as County Judge, I also served as the Judge of what is now known as the Family Court. The Family Court has jurisdiction over the neglected and delinquent children in the county. One particular family was a constant source of annoyance. The family was a large family and the parents were constantly being charged with neglecting their children. One particular occasion stands out very vividly in my memory. One of the girls in the family, about thirteen years of age, became pregnant and the Welfare Department picked the child up, took her out of the family and placed her temporarily in a foster home. To keep her in a foster home they had to have a hearing before me. The mother arrived at my chambers ahead of the daughter. She was by far the largest woman I have ever seen in my life. She must have weighed over 400 pounds. She sat down on two chairs in the chambers. The door to the chambers opened and the welfare officer and the little girl entered the chambers. When the daughter saw the mother she began to cry; she ran toward her mother, jumped up on the mother's lap and said, "Mommy, mommy, sing to me." Whereupon the mother sang the words to a pop song entitled "Goody Goody," which you may recall tells a sad tale about a loser in love, and concludes with a phrase expressing hope that the loser is satisfied with his lot.
That happened back in the days when I was drinking. At that time, I not only thought it was the funniest thing I had ever seen, but I also thought it was the saddest thing I had ever seen. Today my attitude is different. Somehow or other I believe that this mother had intuitively learned to live the life that the people in AA learn. We learn to live by the most wonderful prayer ever written: "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."
The little girl was pregnant, only a little bit pregnant, but like being a little bit alcoholic, she was pregnant, and. just like every- thing that has happened there is nothing that we can do about it except to learn to accept it. "The moving finger writes and having writ moves on, nor all our piety and wit can lure it back to cancel half a lie, nor all our tears wash out a single word of it." Like being alcoholic or being pregnant, we can rebel against it, we can wallow in self-pity, we can fight it, we can disown the pregnant child, we can sever our relations with her, we can fill our lives with hate, remorse and regret, or we can accept it and even sing about it.
So many times I think about this courtroom experience and I change the words of that song around a little bit. "I met something called alcohol and it set me back on my heels, Goody, Goody. I met this stuff and now I know how it feels, Goody, Goody. Hurray and Hallelujah I had it coming to me, and I'm satisfied, my rascal me."
