I have written for Dragon Age, Resident Evil, Red Dead Redemption 2, ASOIAF/GOT, and recently Baldur's Gate. Also, the The Mirror Visitor book series, and another certain video game fandom that we now don't talk about, heheh.

4. what are your top five fics by kudos?

As much as I can! If someone leaves me a string of comments in succession I'll usually reply to the most recent.

6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

There was a one-shot where I explored the Inquisitor losing Cullen, and nothing will top that. However, in my small series Leon and Ada fics there tends to be a note of sadness in each one, even if the main fic has a happy ending.

7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Most of my longfics have happy endings, but I find it doesn't ring true to life if everything is happyhappyjoyjoy. It probably also depends on what your definition of happiness is. Probably Love Song on Sapphire Isle because Jaime and Brienne get married and literally have a pack of children and travel the world--the ending written solely to say Fuck you to the GOT writers for doing that to Jaime and brienne, and at this point I can't count on GRRM for a happy ending for them.

I mean that's what I want, so I would say this ending. (I'd prefer 2/3 kids however, LOL.)

8. do you get hate on fics?

I've been fortunate but I've had a few frankly very stupid comments over the years. One person claimed I was a fetishist because I noted Cullen and Lydia gain weight when they retire but they still think each other is hot. It's more accurate to say I've received unsolicited concrit, which I'm sorry, is and forever will be annoying when you don't ask for it. concrit is helpful, but don't give it when the author doesn't ask. Trust me, we will ask when we want it from people we trust.

9. do you write smut? if so, what kind?

I used to write a lot...and I used to enjoy it a lot, but frankly at this point in my life I find I don't enjoy writing it as much unless there's a character exploration to it or something else beneath the surface. I joked a while ago that falling for an IRL man killed my smut writing career, but I think it's more accurate that as I started writing original fiction again I learned to be more purposeful with sex.

10. do you write crossovers? what's the craziest one you've written?

No, but there is a scene in In Waking Dreams that is an homage, if not outright rip off of my favorite scene in one of my favorite movies, That Hamilton Woman. It's the scene before he gives her the coin when they're staying at in inn

11. have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of!

12. have you ever had a fic translated?

Also not that I know of. I'd honestly love it!

13. have you ever co-written a fic before?

14. what's your all-time favourite ship?

Cullen x Inquisitor for getting me into writing again, but it honestly fluctuates.

15. what's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I am quite proud of myself for finishing most of the fics I've begun. The one fic though I'd love to finish would be my Morrigan x warden fic simply because it's not a ship I see often. At this point however I'm not going to say I am done with fanfic, but my priorities have shifted.

16. what are your writing strengths?

I have been told it's lyrical, poetic writing and characterization.

17. what are your writing weaknesses?

I like to rely on dialogue and my descriptions tend to me minimal. There is a fine line of course, too much description will bog a story down.

18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Should be used sensibly and sparingly and you should know what you're doing. Read a book fairly recently where the characters were bilingual, Spanish and English, and as someone who grew up with a lot of Spanish speakers it rang hollow to me.

19. first fandom you wrote for?

Dragon Age

20. favourite fic you've written?

Why is this so hard? I like them all to a certain degree. There's just something about my one shot Leon and Ada fic Barcelona though. I hadn't even been in the city yet and I still think I got it down so well. The utter helplessness, the slight angst, the longing, the pinning. It reminds me of a version of me that I can't go back to, a version of me so etched in that certain point in time, and yet you wouldn't know it unless you were me. You'd just read it and say "yes."

WRITING COMMISSIONS

Hello everybody! So I’m recently in need of money, so I was thinking about doing writing commissions! I’ve been writing for six years now, mostly from roleplay (literate), and have occasionally written fanfics in the past. I feel like in doing this, it may also help me to improve my vocabulary too!

I have examples of my writing available that I can show if you’d like them. I will do that in DM’s, so please DM me if you’re interested!

This will include DBH. I’m willing to try out writing for all DBH characters if that’s what you’d like, though my strong suits lie more within Gavin, Hank and Connor. But I will do any character!

What I will write:

- AU’s (excluding furry/cat people AU’s)

- soft, fluffy fics

- x reader (male, female or gender neutral reader)

- triggering themes/angst (excluding pedophilia)

- ships

What I won’t write:

I do have the things I won’t do smut wise, but I’ll talk about that in DM’s :)

Tale Teller’s 2020 BINGO Challenge

With the #Tale Teller’s 52 Week Challenge coming to a close, I wanted to start up a new challenge for those who are wanting to write more over the summer! I wanted something unique and fun, so I decided on doing a BINGO Challenge!

I hope I have created something fun and unique that everyone will enjoy. If you are interested or want to know more, be sure to click the “Keep Reading” line!

What is a BINGO Challenge?

A BINGO challenge is where you will have to write stories or fanfiction that match up with spaces on a bingo card. Below is an image of a traditional BINGO card, as an example...

Instead of having numbers on the card, each square will instead be filled with different genres or prompts for writing. For example, Fluff, Smut, Reader Insert, AU, Friendship, etc. You will have to write one story for each square on a custom BINGO card that I will give you to compete for BINGO!

What’s more, I have decided to spice the challenge up with PRIZES for WINNERS!

How Do You Win?!

You can be one of the winners by being the first to get a BINGO or a BLACKOUT!

Bingo -- Getting a BINGO means that you write a story for all the squares in a line. The line can be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal.

Blackout -- Writing a story for EVERY SINGLE SQUARE ON THE CARD!

This means that to have a chance to win you have to write AT LEAST 5 stories. There is no free space on my fanfic bingo cards, but there are other things that could be easier...like making a fic recommendation, making a playlist, etc.

When I receive your submission, I will then send you an image of your PERSONAL BINGO CARD. That’s right, everyone will have a completely unique BINGO card. The content in the squares will be the same, but they will all be in a different order. This way, no two people’s experience in the challenge is different!

Once you have your BINGO card, you are off to the races! GET TO WRITING!

Rules of the Challenge:

To help balance the chaos, there are a few rules...Please make sure you read through these for violating one of the rules could keep you from winning a prize!

1) No Double Dipping -- for those who don’t know what this means...let’s say you need a story that is “Fluff” and a story that is a “Ship”...you HAVE to write TWO DIFFERENT STORIES! You can’t write a story that is both a ship and fluff...nope, sorry. Each square needs its own unique story.

2) Submitting Your BINGO Card -- When you are ready to submit your BINGO card to me, you need to put an image of your BINGO Card in a Tumblr Post (if you can mark the boxes you did that would be helpful, but if not no worries). I have some stuff I just don’t read, as do others. Please be aware of that so if you write sensitive material, please let people know.

Hey guys, thanks for your nice feedback on my last fanfic. I’m glad you like it and decided to write a second part. Please feel free again to tell me what you think. I’ think I’ll make a few other chapters about our newly-wed couple. Maybe also some smut :3

“Congratulations. I now pronounce you husband and wife.” “Very funny.” You started laughing, but both Connor and the official looked at you in confusion. “Is something the matter, Mrs. Anderson?” “No, but… I wouldn’t put it that way, since it’s a contract for work and… wait, why did you just call me Anderson?”

“Oh, I’m sorry. I should have told you before. Didn’t you see it in the contract?” The official started to explain, but Connor interrupted him.“I know that it’s normal for the android to take the humans name, but in this case I preferred to keep my last name. Most androids don’t have one, but I got mine from Lieutenant Anderson. He's a colleague who helped me after I deviated. I hope that’s okay for you.”

You felt like your head was spinning. What was going on here? They were definitely talking about marriage. Not a work partnership like the one you signed up for, but a real marriage. Till death do us part and all this stuff. Was this some kind of sick joke?

“Are you okay, [Y/N]?” Connor seemed worried about you. “Do you need some fresh air?” You nodded. “T-That would be great, yes.”

“All the papers are complete, so you can leave now." You heard the official talking like a distant noise in the background. “And if you want to change the name again, we can still arrange this later.” You felt dizzy while Connor was escorting you outside.

The elevator was empty. You looked around, trying to avert Connors gaze, when you noticed a poster.

“Register now for the android integration program!”, it said. “Help an android to integrate into human society. Learn about the new intelligent species!”

This was exactly what you were trying to do, but something went wrong, terribly wrong. You had another look at the poster and noticed the description at the bottom.

“Work partnership program, Room 504. Life partnership program, Room 503.” Well, that explained something.

You cleared your throat. “So, this means we are married? Like a real couple?” Connor seemed confused about your question. “Yes, we are. Is this not what… you wanted?” “Actually, no. I signed up for a work partnership.”

Connor looked shocked, almost hurt. But you two didn’t even know each other. Why was he even concerned about this? “So… this was all a huge misunderstanding?” You nodded slowly and tried not to avert his gaze. His eyes had this warm colour of brown. Focussing on them was the only thing that prevented you from freaking out.

“But I don’t understand this.” He frowned. “The contract stated clearly that this is a life partnership. With signing it you agreed to helping me integrate into human society as your partner.” He paused. “As your spouse.” “Do you really think I read this whole contract?” “It said it in the headline.”

Well, maybe he was not completely wrong about this.

You noticed that the two of you had already left the townhall. Now you were standing in the park in front of the building. It was a warm spring day, a bit windy. You tried to focus on the warm sun on your skin and took another deep breath. “Listen, Connor. This is not about you. Not at all. I would have loved to collaborate with you for a project at my job. But I was never looking for a… husband.” It felt weird to even use this word. “I got this completely wrong. And now it’s time to fix it.” You turned around, ready to enter the townhall again, but Connor grabbed your arm and was holding you back. “Wait, [Y/N]. Do you really want to annul this marriage?” “I don’t see what else we can do.” You shrugged. “If you haven’t read the contract, you probably also don’t know about the fee for withdrawing it?” “Which fee?” You felt like the floor was turning upside down again. “It’ll cost 50.000 dollars to annul the marriage during the first year. The government does not want humans to get a free househould android this way and give it back whenever they want.” “But… I don’t have that much money.” You realized that you sounded like a small child, but now you became desparate.

“Please don’t worry about this, [Y/N]. Do you want to sit down?” Connor dragged you over to a bench. He placed his arm around your waist to prevent you from tripping. His touch sent a warm feeling down your spine, but you tried to ignore it. This was definitely not the right moment to think about how attractive he actually was.

“Are you in a romantic relationship?”, he asked out of nowhere. You felt how your face turned red. Why was he asking this? Did it matter? “I, ehm, no, I’m not.” “That’s good.” Connor looked relieved. “Oh, well, I don’t know if it’s good for you, but it’ll make things easier”, he added. “Easier for what?” Your voice got louder. “There’s no way I’m going to be your wife, don’t you understand?”

“Don’t worry, [Y/N]. I understood very well.” His voice trembled a bit and you felt sorry for yelling at him. After all, this was not what he wanted as well. “Sorry, I just don’t know what you do”, you murmured.

Connor nodded. “Listen, I have an idea. We might be married, but this is just a piece of paper. If you want to, we can still have a professional partnership. You teach me things about your work and how humans live and you learn from me about androids. What you you think?”

“I… well. This would be ideal for me. But what about you? You wanted a partner for your.. life?” “Yes, I did.” Connor looked sincere now. “But I would never take advantage of your misunderstanding. There is no need for you to pay the annulation fee. We can just pretend this was a work partnership. And after a year, we can get divorced and I’ll look for someone else who… meets my expectations.”

“Okay… okay. If this is good for you, I guess it’s the best decision.” You breathed out and tried to make up your mind about what was happening here. This sounded like a pretty weird dream, but it could turn out to be okay.

“There’s only one question left”, Connor said while you got up from the bench. “The contract also states that we live together. Like a real couple would, you know?”

Right. There was always a catch, wasn’t it?

“Okay. Where do you live at the moment?”, you asked him. “I spend most of my free time with Lieutenant Anderson or other colleagues from the DPD. I used to return to Cyberlife in the night, but since my deviation I usually charge at the police station.”

This sounded pretty sad for a human, but was perfectly normal for an Android. The relationship to this colleagues would be interesting for your research. “What about you?”, he interrupted your thoughts.

“Oh, I have a small apartment. Nothing to fancy. But they’ll never find out whether we live together or apart, I guess.”

“There will be inspections now and then. And they are not announced beforehand.”

“Of course.” You sighed. You should have guessed this. Both of you fell silent for a while. You examined him once more. There were worse things than a nice, good-looking Android at your home. “Can you cook?” “Not yet, but I can download a cooking software, if you need me to.”

You grinned and took his hand. “We have a deal then.”

Writer Interview

thanks for the tag @thevikingwoman, I’m sure I’ve done one before, but hey new year new thoughts.

Name: on A03 I’m AParisianShakespearean

Fandoms: Dragon Age, previously DBH and RDR2. I’ve stopped writing for DBH but Red Dead isn’t a door I’ve closed, I just finished my main fic and have other interests at the moment. I also write Jaime and Brienne from ASOIAF/GOT. Seems 2020 has landed me back to my starting fandom, Dragon Age. I missed Cullen and Lydia too much. I also wrote a Leon and Ada piece from Resident Evil and would like to write more for them.

Where you post: Sometimes I’ll post one shots on here but pretty much I like using A03 for my chaptered fics. I do not have the patience to upload them to tumblr, lol.

Most Popular One-shot: On A03 it’s A Knight to Remember, my interpretation of Jaime and Brienne’s first night. First night with some knights, the best. On tumblr it’s a Cullen smut piece called Shapes and Plains that I wrote years ago.

Most Popular Multichap: Love Song on Sapphire Isle, AKA the long fic I wrote where Jaime and Brienne stay together and Jaime doesn’t die. They adopt a baby and then they have several more--all talls as trees. Truthfully I do not think season 8 of GOT is salvageable, (realistically you’d have to go way back and time to fix the issues) but the least I could do was make myself happy and give Jaime and Brienne a happy ending. Other than my OTPs with my characters they are my favorite in media.

Favorite story you’ve written so far: Well it does change. When I finished my RDR2 fic The Sweetest Sorrow, I thought this was probably my most successful fic, while Our Immortal Longings has the most of me in it. However, I recently reread my Cullen x Inquisitor longfic In Waking Dreams to clean it up...and hey, I was nostalgic. But it’s honestly the first writing of mine I have reread years removed from writing it that I actually kind of loved. So for now, it’s In Waking Dreams. And I’m continuing it! It was always my plan to when I finished, but I got distracted by other fandoms.

Fic you were nervous to post: All of them, especially if it was my firs time posting for a new fandom. Special mention to IWD for being my first first fic.

How do you choose your titles: I look to the bard usually. (Sweest Sorrow is from Romeo and Juliet--’parting is such sweet sorrow” and Our Immortal Longings is from Antony and Cleopatra where Cleopatra says “I have immortal longings in me.”) Or I look at the story’s themes and go from there.

Do you outline: Sometimes yes, sometimes no. If I see certain plot points I will write them down (like I’m doing for IWD) but for my other in progress fic I’m kind of having fun, seeing where things lead. Not to say I don’t have a plan, I do, I’m just not concerned with writing it down.

Complete: 68 works on A03, and most are one shots, but I have a good track record of finishing longfics. I have four completed longfics (previously 5, though it was finished once upon a time so maybe it counts? LOL)

In progress: Other than continuing IWD I have Memoirs of a Long, Long Time, a Warden and Morrigan fic. I also have a Jaime and Briennne actor/actress AU. It’s not abandoned, but it’s not a priority right now. Hey though, maybe I’ll get the muse for it to sing again

Prompts?: I used to do them a lot more, but not so much anymore. Sometimes i reblog a prompt list and take them

Upcoming work you’re most excited about: I’m very excited to continue IWD, but you already knew that :P Also MOALLT.

Worlds I would love to write for in the future: Something something marriage of convenience for Leon and Ada. My own original fiction, which has been started and I’m just finding it difficult. When I started writing fic in 2016 I thought I wouldn’t do it for long, it would help me grow then I’d go back to original fiction.

HAHAHA.

I love fanfic. Writing it makes me happy, and F you to the guy at Starbucks last year who asked me accusingly “oh do you write fanfiction?” when I said I liked to write. HELL YEAH I WRITE IT.

I do consider myself an adventurous writer -- I’ve always maintained that I will write about whatever I want and try to label it after it’s done. I suppose if they were combined we’d have fluffy, funny emotional hurt/comfort, art included, waiting to become a fanfic audiobook.

I’m imagining the emotional hurt would be over something ridiculous, like pie being outlawed as a political publicity stunt because it’s supposedly unhealthy.

Cas and Sam would rebel against the law and make Highly Illegal Pie for Dean to eat, and there would be a fluffy montage of them leaving pies on people’s doorsteps in the small hours of the morning. The mayor who made pies illegal would not be able to resist the fresh pie and would eat it, and after realizing this made the people feel like they had something in common with him, the mayor would stop the cruel anti-pie law from continuing.

The cover art would be of Dean dramatically fallen to his knees in front of a big sign with a pie and the 🚫 symbol stamped over the top. The podfic would be an extremely dramatic over-the-top reading complete with sound effects.

The Threshafterdark Artbook and 3-sentence AU Fics will remain WIPs indefinitely because I’m adding to them whenever. I highly doubt I’ll be continuing the heavy Spideydevil Marvel fic What Do You Say? since it’s been a couple years. (I should probably just label it complete...) Otherwise, yup, I plan to finish all of the others. ♥

I love you're writing, btw. You are a blessing upon the fandom. I have a bit of a dumb question though as someone who has only been lurking around the D:BH fandom for a few weeks... is there a reason why fans seem to universally hate David Cage? I feel like I missed all the good drama and am now trying to piece together the story based on numerous angry authors notes. (You're not obligated to answer if you dont want to you just seemed approachable) :)

I don’t mind. Someone can probably word this better than poor sleep-deprived me, but I think with Cage there was already some history regarding his writing or behaviour. As someone who’s only been exposed to half of Heavy Rain, I wouldn’t really know, but that’s the impression I get; meaning that what people criticise about DBH is not an isolated event. As for DBH itself… My biggest issue with it was how ham-fistedly the race allegory was handled. It was clumsy and cringey at best, and ignorant and offensive at worst. I don’t really have the energy to go into it in-depth, but this is a pretty good write up.

There’s also the problem of how the women in the game were handled. Compared to Markus and Connor’s relatively complex, existentialism and ethics-driven character arcs, Kara was a “maid-bot” who wanted to be a mother. That was the extent of her humanity. Oh, and the sex bots. Even North’s whole personality seems based on the fact that she was a sex-bot, and the trauma she suffered because of it.

The force-fed straight romance rubbed a lot of people the wrong way too, not least because many people felt Simon should’ve been open for romancing as well, but also simply because it was just such a prime example of a shoe-horned straight romance where none was needed.

I’ve seen more criticism that has to do with world building or narrative, but these are the main points I usually see when the topic comes across; i.e race, gender & heteronormativity.

The problem I think is that DC built a plot revolving around something incredibly loaded in terms of race politics, but didn’t actually want to make a political game. He romanticises civil rights movements but doesn’t actually truly address the issues why those movements were necessary. Not to mention the awkwardness of essentially equating *objects* created to be subservient with black people. Yikes.

I’m sure much of this was unintended, stemming from ignorance and tone-deafness. But that doesn’t change the fact that many people (and especially Americans, who are closer to the topic than I as a European am) found it incredibly… well, shitty. Add to that the dissatisfaction with some of the narrative aspects, and you end up with a lot of fanfic authors denouncing DC as too incompetent to be paid any attention to, and embrace Death of the Author

Having said all that… Look, fandom keeps reiterating this -

it’s okay to like things that are problematic.

I greatly enjoyed DBH. I’ve sat through two playthroughs on my own console, and plan on doing more. I think the game is visually gorgeous, it’s one of the few “walking simulator”/QTE-heavy games I’ve actually enjoyed mechanics wise, and I thought the plot, when separated from it’s political ineptitude, was actually very captivating. I enjoyed the characters themselves, I cared about them and I cared about the relationships you could build. I think it’s a good game. I also think it’s an incredily badly handled game.

I also want to say this: A lot of us already spend a lot of time dealing with upsetting politics in real life. I’m a half-asian queer woman living in a country where right-wing politics are constantly trying to gain more foothold. And you don’t have to participate in the oppression olympics to feel anxiety about whichever country’s current political climate. Not to mention the personal problems most of us deal with, even the most well-adjusted of us. The real world is draining, so-

It’s absolutely fine to participate in fandom and not want to involve yourself in political discourse about the source material.

You don’t need to excuse yourself, you don’t need to apologise for your enjoyment of the product. You’re allowed to scroll past, blacklist, mute. It’s good to be aware of the nuances in the material, and it’s good to be open to the criticism people have about it, to be an educated consumer. But if it starts giving you anxiety or feelings of guilt about liking it - whether it’s a book or a game or a tv show - you’re allowed to take a step back and idk, go read some one-shot fluff-fics or that five-part smut series of your favourite gross ship.

Did you write more fic this year than you thought you would, less, or about what you’d predicted?

I definitely wrote more than I thought I had. I had a really big slump cause I felt like I was in limbo after being in the same fandom for so long and I doubted my ability to write which well made me too depressed to write. I did get into a new fandom where I wrote a few new fics tho!

What’s your own favorite story of this year?

I don’t think I had a fave I liked writing all of my current projects. Each other allowed to me connect to new folks and that’s what I seek in a fandom environment.

Did you take any writing risks this year?

I dived into a lot of ptsd fic and long fic. Both are things I struggle with ptsd especially in real life so to have characters that are either pretty blank slate (gav900) or who have shown actual signs in canon of having ptsd (hankcon) it has allowed me to poke around.

To finish everything on my wip list including projects I havent posted already along side my original fiction

I’d say a crown of feathers but that’s because the person im writing it for ( @sparrowlicious ) seems happy with what i’ve gotten done so far which is a relief and nice

it was a very specific smut fic i wanted to see in the world and i went for it and apparently everyone else wanted to see it too

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe (in my opinion):

Mirrored Coin but I can see why. Character death usually doesn’t do well in fandom especially when the rest of the fic is the results of said death and how they got to that point in their relationship and how it affects deviancy

Most fun story to write:

One Summers Day which is odd to reflect on because im not much for slice of life but i got to show kylo and hux can be both soft with each other while still having a troubled past

Hardest story to write:

So far? Tangled Heartstrings and Wires only because for the plot to work i gotta do a lot of planning and making sure things line up and all the pieces connect. it’ll be a challenge

Biggest disappointment:

I don’t think I had disappointment for one fic in general but there was a point i was considering dropping out of the star wars/kylux fandom completely cause i felt really alone and alienated

Biggest surprise:

Finding a new fandom to write fic for. DBH the game itself is shit but the fandom that popped up around it is so kind and creative and diverse

Favorite opening lines:

It started off no different than any other day, second cup of coffee already in hand as Connor sat down at his workspace where he had several cases spread out to look over. With the increase in cases both human and android it had put a strain on the whole department. Connor was basically a zombie at that point, long shifts bleeding into each other to the point he immediately crashed when he did make it home. It was frustrating in more than one way, to say the least.

There was a chorus of voices as others called to each other and he looked up to see the cause. Gavin entered the room and the first thing Connor noticed was the change of his android uniform.

It had been redesigned to better work with field work, the fabric much more form fitting and resistant to damage. The dark blue across the shoulders with the glow of the @ next to the DPD badge made it obvious they were part of their force. It only made sense such alterations were made after a previous accident where someone got stuck jumping over a fence in pursuit of a suspect. He went to take a sip of his coffee when Hank followed soon after and he nearly choked. He couldn’t take his eyes off Hank as he made his way over to his desk next to Connor. The new fabric clung to his partner's body, filling out in a way that had Connors heart in his throat.

I just found it really fun to write Connor completely flustered about how attractive he found Hank

Favorite closing lines:

“I can try.” The ticking of the clock and their slow breathing was all that could be heard in the room and he lost track of time. Had it been a minute? Five? Maybe an hour? He really couldn't tell. The words felt heavy on his tongue and almost like they would drown him if he didn’t get them out. “What really made you come here?” Hux gave a little huff of laughter, breath warm against Ben ’ s face , and a small smile that made Bens stomach flip.

“Well , you’re interesting , that’s for sure. You’re also the first person to ever so blatantly reach out to me even though , to be quite honest, I thought you did so in a rather vulgar manner , but I guess even that had its charm. We both are broken , but perhaps we can fit together.”

Ben drifted asleep in the comfort of warmth and the soft sound of breathing. In his last conscious moments he thought that just maybe that happiness would be willing to stay.

One Summers Day

A rather soft moment between the two it was rather entertaining to write and I feel this is how they were in canon before things got bad the two making jokes and i wanted that in a modern story
