Hey, I'll be gone for a little while longer but I wanted to give you guys an update because I know some of you have been concerned.

I moved out of the apartment and into a new unit today. This has a win and some losses.

The win is of course I am not at least no longer living with my roommate and basically her friends since those mfers should have paid rent for how nightly they're over. I live diagonal from her, but I will take what I can get. It also made the move easier.

Downside, she stole or destroyed basically everything of mine in the common areas that she could. What items she didn't just steal or use and never replace (and this goes for her friends/gusests as well), are thoroughly unusable. Aside from the most expensive at least - but I could have had her head on a spike for it.

But this damages ranges from now missing every cleaning product I owned (fabulosos, bleach, detergent, etc - so many etcs), to missing personal items or finding them in worse condition than they were left (my room was tiny, I only had so much room), to straight up just destroying my cookware or stealing it. She stole most of it and damaged pretty much all the rest - cookware less than a year old is now rusted beyond repair and had to be thrown out. I have one pot and 1 pan now everything else is missing. This coming from the girl who threw a whole fit in mediations about not wanting her things touched and separating our stuff out, only to help herself to using and destroying mine, of course).

On top of that she blatantly ignored mediation compromises and was just a general dick - even the maintenance men helping me move were commenting on it. After I realized she had stolen my things I didn't even want to both getting the food, but they told me to sit tight and they got what they could. She stole and kept most of my food as well, of course, because she got full dictation over what could and could not go.

The office provided me a $50 card to Walmart - which is nice because they're not technically responsible for anything of mine lost or stolen. But after the both the leasing and property managers came to talk to her the latter realized that this was going to go south quickly and decided to at least try and help cover some of my missing items. it wont be much of a dent considering Walmart prices, but it's a nicer gesture than I expected, and they got first hand experience with even a tip of her behavior that I have endured for the last 4 months.

4 months of this. I am so, so, so tired. I am certainly rambling but her and her friends did not let me get any sleep the night before. Which only made today worse - besides living off saltines and unsweetened apple sauce for more than a week (I ran out of the saltines 3 days ago - I splurged on take out with how hungry I was today though, and so I didn't pass out).

I am still made about the cookware though. Cookware is so expensive and most all of mine was gifted.

I can't sleep yet because I have to work, but god I want to. I am so tired. I have been so tired. I'm just crashing on the couch for the next few days.

2. Because I moved units today I was able to take Jolene to the vet and get her treated. She's doing good. A little mad at me for taking her and she got car sick, but she's cuddled up with me as I work and write this post. Looking sweet as can be and stealing my heart.

3. I feel like there was supposed to be a third part to this, and I started writing it, but for the last 4 months my mind has been fuzzy. Especially right now with the lack of sleep. So it just vanished from my head immediately. Sorry ya'll.

Give me a few more days and hopefully I'll be back good as new.

i. so . Hiatus .

i know. i know . i probably mentioned it when i made the announcement post, but my mental health likes to go on one of those rides. yknow the ones where you go like up rlly fast then down maybe and then up then DOWN .... its like that. i needed a break and every time i wanted to come back or thought about it, something would happen and i would get stuck in my own head.

a big reason for getting stuck in my head was (and i hate to admit this ... i hate to admit that i have Insecurities On The Internet) my feelings of inadequacy regarding my writing. i love to plot fics, i love concepts and characters and making little headcanons but i dont ... know if i love writing rn. and i thought for the longest time that like . whatever ill just push thru it its fine ill be fine but it kinda wasnt lmao you can kinda see it in my halloween reqs and what become of them when i get to that but i began to feel like nothing i had put out or would put out would hold up prose wise (and normally i dont feel like this im much more “idc its my life im living it” but thats not a rant for tumblr LMAO). i still feel like that -- like im better as a reader than a writer. but . You Know :-)

when i left, i was in a steadily decreasing mental and emotional state, made worse by a situation at work that really was a case of petty jealousy on my end and rlly isnt very consequential now despite how much pain and resentment it gave me when it Was a problem so i wont get into it. the tl;dr of november and december was me using work as an crutch and distraction -- i know my job, i do it well, it helped me not think about my responsibilities and obligations and inadequacies. of course, as the holiday season grew busier n busier i was scheduled so often that i moved 88 or so miles (according to my apple watch, which i ONLY wear at work since im never anywhere else outside my house) and fell into a cycle of showering n sleeping at my house before going back the next day. (theres definitely something to be said abt capitalism and “grind culture” here but once again its not the time or place snsjkdfds)

at the turn of the new year, i happened to remember a birthday card i hadnt filed away for safekeeping from a friend of mine that id been horribly out of touch with til that point. i started crying because i realized how out of touch id been in general up until that point. the month of january was great for me: i was focused, happy, and in a much better place than i had been before. the end of it brought me down focus wise and im hoping that enough time away from my distractions will refocus me bc i ... need it LMAO and though ive burned out from that level of productivity and gotten distracted again im ... trying to stay positive which i think is the most i can do 😁👍🏼

media wise, i got real into stardew valley (but burned out bc i played it extensively as a way to wind down after work), the pokemon platinum romhack renegade platinum (still havent finished it bc of school n i played it w the intent to see if i could nuzlocke it ... bitch its so hard but its so fun bc of it), briefly assassins creed: odyssey (im one of those ppl who completes an entire region before i move to the next so you can tell i burned out of that one + wouldnt have the time to properly devote to it even if i didnt), got back into genshin impact after pulling for xiao (after not touching it for like . months), and danganronpa. yes . danganronpa 😐 i Know. i stopped playing it after the second trial of the first game bc i was so hurt by the outcome and picked it up in late january only to get sucked in (thank god i had the foresight to buy the second and third games during the steam winter sale). rn im at the start of chapter 4 if anyone wants to come in my asks and um . talk to me abt danganronpa

iii. you realize halloween was three months ago right

i mentioned this in the first section, but i love to plot things. every request is plotted or at least has a solid foundation. i had fun detailing what concept i wanted to go with considering what i was given, and there were some bangers i might touch up in the future. but heres whats going to happen to the requests themselves:

there are two finished requests. one will be posted tomorrow and the other will be touched up (just bc i finished it doesnt mean its good 🧍‍♂️) and scheduled for next saturday. as for the ones i never got around to ...

i will not be finishing those requests. i hate to be That Person, but i feel like we all expected this 🧍‍♂️ what i will do is post all of my notes for each request in batches -- requests that have an @ to go with them will be mentioned in the post proper, but anon asks will be pictured. (there are some asks that came from blogs who are now deactivated but i wrote down all the prompts and remember most of those askers so ill cross that bridge when i get there) there will most likely be an excerpt or two simply bc i think i mightve written a few plot points or interactions in the form of bullet points. i rlly am sorry about doing this but i remember looking at my notion doc with all the prompts and feeling ... like i wasnt measuring up n it wasnt just to myself or to some intangible concept of “other” id constructed but it was instead to those who requested n actually WANTED to see and hear and read my writing and i ...... im gonna admit thats another big reason i avoided this site.

regardless, youll definitely get what i have (and likely more than just my bullet points and illegible handwriting).

tl;dr: im sorry. what i have in terms of plot, concept, and interaction for every request will be posted, but i cant say ill ever complete them and mean it.

well i mean . im not entirely sure how sold i am on haikyuu in the content creation department (as a creator n to a lesser extent, as a consumer). as mentioned previously, its no longer my primary focus. it doesnt mean im not into haikyuu anymore; i have a lot of love for those boys but i cant rlly say im even caught up w recent fandom activity and also havent even finished s4 pt2 LMAO thats on my to do list

and despite all that, i still want to share my plots n concepts and snippets and maybe even fics. it wont happen anytime soon. it might not even happen. but i mean . its better than me saying i wont write ever again shjdkfs but either way ill probably use this blog as a personal blog w the occasional ask game for dialogue prompts (those are always so fun i love making up aus to fit like . the most mundane prompts)

as for my works (past and any potential future), ive opened an ao3 acc here n ill be editing n possibly expanding on my old works to post there. tumblr, to me, is The x reader hub, but i figure more x reader fics on ao3 is never a bad thing.

ill be deleting/posting drafted posts to the queue since they were all meant to be queued anyway as well as (sorry again 🧍‍♂️) deleting or answering asks in the inbox. (moots if you get a notif from me saying i rbed your post from months ago ... mind your business) im very hard to get ahold of and its ... a problem. expect an overhaul of the nav n shit to reflect my new direction n also because i feel like i cant tell if my passion for carrd is shared by the majority HSDKLFS maybe its better to read my info in a normal post ykwim .......

What Is A Value Ladder? (And Why You Need One In Your Business!)

Here you are going to learn what is a value ladder and why is it so important for us as Affiliate Marketers. I have done intensive research on this topic and have some great information for you. So without any further delay lets dive right into it.

The Value ladder is a very successful concept that is used by Affiliate Marketers in their sales process. Oh, I would like to mention for those who stay to the end of this video there is a little thankyou bonus to help grow your online business.

Ok! you’re looking at the topic and you’re wondering to yourself, “what is a value ladder? Believe me this has got nothing to do with construction tools?”

As much as I love construction and the tools of that trade, today’s topic is focused more on ladders as they pertain to the online marketing world.

The brick-and-mortar world has figured out the true power of a value ladder. In fact, we have all been influenced by the Value Ladder but might have not realized.  Hopefully that wont be the case after you watch this video and to help you I will be giving a live example later. I will explain what a value ladder is. I will also illustrate the power a value ladder can give your online business. Always remember the use of a well-thought-out value ladder combined with a thoughtfully designed sales funnel can truly ramp up sales in your business. If you don't know what a Sales funnel is put your comments down below and I will make a video explaining that.

The Basics

Let’s begin with a definition of a value ladder.

Well, simply put a value ladder is where you gain a customer when they purchase an entry level, inexpensive product. Most people using online marketing make the mistake of selling  big-ticket items to their prospects as soon as possible.   Let me repeat the definition again slowly and let it sink in. So, A Value ladder is where you gain a customer when they purchase an entry level, inexpensive product. So the two important and key things Inexpensive product and at Entry level. Then as you build a relationship with that customer and gain their trust, you can then introduce more valuable and more expensive products. It is a simple concept that, if mastered, can take your business to a completely different level.

The Components of a Value Ladder

First the Entry Level Products

Entry level products are low-cost products that introduce customers to your brand. The profit margins on these products is usually very small. And in some cases they may not make any money at all and that is ok. As this relates to the value ladder, one of the goals of these products is simply to cover the cost of advertising. It takes time and/or money to acquire a customer. These entry-level products help cover those costs. From there, the idea is to move your customer up the ladder over time.

Always remember that though these products might be lower in cost, they should still provide high value to your customer or client. This is the beginning step of the process of building trust with your customers. Your customers won’t take one step higher up your ladder without seeing that you will provide them with great value right from the start.

Then comes the Mid-Level Products

Once you have established a relationship with your customer and have gained their trust, they will be more receptive to your mid-level line of products.

Mid-level products are higher-priced items that fall somewhere in between your entry-level products and your high-end products. The profit margins on your mid-level products are generally much higher than your entry level products. If your entry-level products are covering your advertising costs, then any mid-level product your customer buys is almost all profit.

Obviously, this is better for the bottom line in your business and where you would like all your customers to go. But it doesn’t have to stop there.

The Top-of-the-Line Products

The top of the line products (the top of the ladder) are the highest value products. These are also the highest priced products in the product line.

This is where things get exciting! The profit margins of your top of the line products are usually very high.

Generally speaking, a customer does not go straight to your high-end products. Usually your customer has come through the entry and mid-level products first and has been familiar with your brand for some time.

But with that being said, the cost to acquire that customer was absorbed in the entry-level hopefully, and if not there, definitely in the mid-level product line. Therefore, when a customer purchases one of your high-end products, it’s almost 100% profit.

Ultimately this is where you want your customers to go.

Additional Products and Services

Some other products you might offer may or may not be associated with any particular item of your product line. These can be stand-alone products or an “add-on” to one of the products that you are selling at any level.

These products can vary in price from low cost to high cost depending on what they are.

Recurring Services

Recurring services are another nice feature of the ladder that can supplement your product line as well as your bottom line.

These often take the form of subscription services. In the case of physical products, this might include protection plans or warranties. They are generally inexpensive, but given their recurring nature, the profits can really add up over time

Lets look at A Real World Case Study

Lets take a real word example of the Apple Brand. Apple over the years has mastered and set the standard for creating and establishing a value ladder in their business. Not only do they have a diversified value ladder, they even have “mini-ladders” or a “ladder within the ladder” in many of the products in their line.

Let’s take a closer look.

The Beginning

Apple’s iPod Touch begins at $199 and goes up from there depending on how much storage you choose. It is relatively affordable and extremely easy to use. It has all the capabilities of the iPhone (less the cellular functionality) at 1/3 the price. It is truly a great value at a reasonable price.

The iPod allows the consumer to “sample” the quality and value of Apple’s product line at a relatively low cost. A brilliant nuance of this entry level product is the immediate introduction of a subscription offer. Many people purchase the iPod for music. But, Apple also offers a music subscription service to compliment the iPod. If you’d rather not have a subscription, you can order music “a la carte” through iTunes.

Furthermore, if you want to listen to music, you can either use your own headphones or Apple has you covered there as well. They have the EarPod wireless ear-buds available to compliment your iPod

They have the Apple Watch, priced from $199 ($299 if cellular capability is added), would also fall into the category of an entry level product.

Moving Up

Next Apples starts to get into the mid-level products with the iPhone and the iPad. It is also here where we begin to see the “ladder within the ladder” emerge.

The iPhone pricing starts at around $699. But as you know, that’s just the beginning. The price goes up depending on which model and also with increased storage space.

The same goes for the iPad. Apple introduced the “New iPad” which was reasonably priced from $329. The iPad Air begins at $499, and iPad Pro starts at $799.

So you can see that even within their mid-level priced products, Apple has established a “mini value ladder.”

The Top Rungs of the Ladder

Next, we start to get into Apple’s higher ticket items with the MacBook, iMac and Mac.

The MacBook line and their starting prices:

●     MacBook Air — $1100

●     MacBook Pro 13″ — $1300

●     MacBook Pro 15″ — $2400

Again, each can be higher priced depending on the specific components installed.

The iMac line consists of the following:

●     iMac 25″ — $1100

●     iMac 27″ — $1800

●     iMac Pro — $5000

The iMac’s are a computer that is integrated into the monitor and comes with a keyboard.

Next comes the Mac. The Mac is just the computer itself; the keyboard and monitor are extra.

●     Mac Mini — $799

●     Mac Pro — $3000

But hold on There’s More

In addition to all the above mentioned, there are many additional supporting and stand along products.

●     Apple Care (protection service. One-time cost per item)

●     Accessories (Ear Pods, chargers, keyboards etc.)

●     Apple Music (either recurring subscription or one-time purchase of songs/albums via iTunes)

●     Movies (also available through iTunes for rental or purchase)

●     Apple TV (one-time cost)

●     Apple TV+

Furthermore, Apple has designed common software across each device to facilitate an easy transition from one product to the next.

So you can see how Apple has created a brilliantly intricate and powerful value ladder.

I think it’s important to note here that I am not trying to sway your opinion of Apple one way or another. I only used Apple as an example to show you how a popular company has implemented and perfected a value ladder.

The Online Use of a Ladder

So let’s talk about how a value ladder can be useful in the online world, specifically marketing.

A good strategy for the first rungs of your ladder would be to offer a low-cost or even free item to attract leads. Again, regardless of whether your entry-level offer is free or low-cost, it needs to be high quality. For your lead to turn into a customer they need to see that they are going to get the most for their money.

This very important first step will give you many indicators about your lead.

If they accept a free offer, that indicates they are definitely interested. Some marketers refer to this type of lead as a “warm lead.”

If they are willing to pay a small price in exchange for an entry-level product you have to offer, that indicates they are significantly more interested. These leads will more likely be willing to buy what you have to offer later on. Marketers often call these “qualified leads.” Most consider them customers at this point.

To retrieve your free or low-cost entry-level offer, your customer will need provide you with their name and email so you can send them the product or instructions on how to retrieve it.

Then through the use of email, you can nurture a business relationship with that customer. Later, as you build trust with your customer you can begin to introduce new products and move them up your value ladder.

Create Diversity

If you want to be able to upscale your online business, it’s important for you too diversify your product line and create a value ladder within.

Whether you’re into e-commerce, or affiliate marketing, you need to offer a wide range of products with a wide range of prices.

As an affiliate marketer, this might require you to promote several different companies or offers. Ideally, you can find one company that offers a value ladder of products all in one place.

The Human Factor

Your “lead” or “customer” may jump on your ladder at any level. They may jump off at anytime as well.

It is also important to remember that the “lead” or the “customer,” is a human looking for your help in some way. Don’t just sell, sell, sell. Help them get what they need. Help them solve their problem. When you do that, you will find yourself getting everything YOU need.

The Little Guide to British Tea Party Etiquette

Morning tea is excellent way to slow down in our ever busy lives, relax and spend time to meet with old friends in addition to make new ones as you experience a truly traditional teatime event. These intimate and elegant events can be offered in honor of visiting friends, new neighbors or for family reunions. Occasions for celebration include birthday parties, housewarming parties, graduation parties, retirement parties, summer garden parties, holiday parties, customer or employee appreciation parties, marriage showers and baby showers, can all take the form of a tea party. They are cost effective, yet it can be sophisticated and formal. Invitations For Hosting A Tea Party The type of elegant invitation should follow the how specialized and elaborate your tea party is reflect the theme of the party. There are numerous invitation cards which can be invested in on-line. A simple invitation printed on cream or pale colored paper, using these words as an example is an preferred way to mail the invitations out. Red or Green for Christmas, engagement colors for a shower, oranges for a fall party. When serving a seated party Set each space environment with a small tea plate or side plate in the center of each setting towards the edge of the table, the mug and saucer (with teaspoon) to the right. Make sure both the cup handle and the teaspoon is positioned to the right. Many people are right handed and will pick up the tea cup using the right hand. The napkin is folded in to a protracted rectangle is placed below the cup and saucer, next to the plate. Place a desert fork in the center of that napkin. Linen napkins in a matching or complementary color are the most formal choice, but white or colorful paper napkins also work fine. Elegant Decorating Your Tea Party The table can be decorated with innovative cut flowers. Be creative and use a teacup or even a tea pot to hold your flowers. This is a great way to make use of an old teapot which has lost its lid. You can use fabric runners across a white table cloth to add some sort of splash of color, silver or colored confetti, and pretty matching napkins. Use silver serving trays, antique collectible china platters or iron cake stands to serve the food from. For seating table preparations, you can even possessed a named place tag. All these little details make the day very special and make the table glimpse stunning. How To Serve A Good Cup of Tea Traditionally, in Britain, the tea beverage is an English Lunchtime Tea blend, served hot with milk. This requires an electric kettle (or stove top kettle), filtered water and then a teapot. You can use either tea bags or loose-leaf tea. Loose leaf is the better quality if you want to impress ones guests. Organic high quality loose-leaf tea is recommended, but a good quality every day British blend tea bag is in addition good when make correctly. Good quality everyday tea bag brands include Tetley, PG Tips, Twinning's and Hide. Steps for making tea... Empty the kettle of old pre-boiled water. For the best flavor, fresh water is desired as it loses its oxygen content after repeated boils. The oxygen in the water gives a fresh flavor to your tea. Water re-boiled can make the tea taste flat. Fill the kettle with fresh spring or blocked water. Bring to the boil. Once the kettle come to a boil, pour a little of the water in to a teapot along with rinse to make the pot hot. In the teapot, place one bag or teaspoon of tea per people plus on for the pot. So for a group of 4 in a pop for 4 add 5 bags/teaspoons involving tea. Make sure the kettle comes to a rolling boil and pour the water on to the tea/teabag. Add the top and a tea cosie and leave to brew for up to 5 minutes, depending on how strong you like the brew. You can test for the color of the tea in an empty white cup. You are looking for a rich brown color. For people who prefer a lighter brew, it is customary to serve them first as the first pour will be the the most fragile, after 2-3 minutes. For those wanting a stronger brew, the tea can stand for a further 2-3 minutes. To help refill the pot, you can add an additional fresh bag or spoon of tea to the existing tea and increase more boiling water, or you can make a fresh pot. This depends on the time between the first brew and the second. That tea cosie will keep the pot hot for over an hour, but by this time, the tea will become stewed and making a fresh pot is recommended. How To Use Loose Leaf Tea Tea bags are by far the best way to make tea, but loose-leaf can result in a better quality of tea flavor and enhance the overall experience. There are a number associated with ways to use a loose-leaf tea in the pot. Using loose-leaf tea straight to the pot and use a tea strainer as you pour the tea in to the cup. The strainer then sits on a tea strainer container to prevent drips (or you can use a saucer or spare teacup. This is the traditional way of making tea in the pot. Using loose-leaf tea in an infuser. Tea infusers are usually designed or single servings in the tea cup and aren't well suited for use in the pot as they don't contain enough tea for a larger pot. If you are making tea or several in a small pot, this method would work. Using loose-leaf tea in a Tea Pocket or paper tea bag. Web site of products available, where you can add the tea of your choice to an empty tea bag. This makes cleanup much easier. Each bag can hold up to 4-5 teaspoons, so add in more filled bags as required. Don't across fill or the tea wont have space to brew and the leaves may come out. Steps for Putting The Tea Steps for pouring the tea... There is no hard and fast rule to who pours the tea. It can also be the tea party host or someone designated to "be mother", the name of the person typically putting the tea in the phrase - "shall I be mother? " or each person can serve themselves. Take note of warning: Tea pots when full are heavy and when using a tea cosey do stay VERY hot a long time. You may need to help older and younger guests with pouring their tea. REMEMBER to hold the teapot lid in place whenever you pour. Many a spilage and a broken lid have resulted in not following this advice. Pour a little milk in the bottom of the cup. Always use milk, never cream, 2% milk or semi skimmed milk gives the preferred flavor. Adding the milk first is the correct etiquette which first dates back to the Victorian era where excellent china tea cups where used. It is said that by adding the milk first, the fine china cup is usually less likely to crack. It also allows the tea and milk to mix without the need for stirring, which is particularly effective if you don't take sugar. Remove the tea cossie from the pot, holding the tea pot lid in place, tip in the pot and pour in to the tea cup. Leave a little space at the top of the cup to prevent spillages and to permit the tea to have sugar added and stirred without spillages. Sugar can also be added in the form of sugarcubes or tender cane sugar, to sweeten the beverage. Use the sugar spoon provided in the sugar bowl to add the handsome to the cup and use the teaspoon provided in your saucer to stir the tea. Make sure you touch the bottom in the cup and stir in well, to prevent all the sugar and sweetness from being concentrated at the bottom of the container. Traditional Tea Party Food Tea party food is traditionally served on a 3-teir cake stand and comprises 3 small courses, a savory sandwich course, scones, preserves and clotted cream and a dainty pastries path. Sandwiches are called finger sandwiches and are cut in to slim fingers or triangles on a soft doughy breads with the crusts removed. Typical sandwiches can include filling such as egg mayonnaise and cress (egg salad), cucumber sandwiches, chicken salad and soaked salmon. For a traditional English Tea party, scones are typically made small and circular and cut in half served open faced with clotted cream and preserves. Typical scones include fruit scones made out of raisins, blueberry scones, apple and cinnamon scones or even chocolate scones. See The Little Book of Scones with regard to full recipes. Clotted cream is typically made in Devon or Cornwall and can be purchased from a few select shops in the USA or on-line and is imported. Clotted Cream isn't made in the USA. Heavy whipping cream can be used as an alternative. I highly recommend you refer to The Little Book of Scones for more on creams to serve with scones. A variety of different saves can be served with scones including strawberry jam or conserve, raspberry jam, or even lemon curd. Please consult The Little Book of Jams, Preserves, Curds and Chutneys for full recipes. The final layer or course is a pastries selection and can form a number of cakes, tea breads and tarts, usually cut in to mouth sized articles. The aim of tea party food is to be dainty as well as flavorful and appealing to the eye. Google Announced in September 2019 that it was phasing out support for Flash from its Chrome browser following Adobe;s announcement that they would end support in 2020.  Apple users wont likely hear much about the end of Flash, in 2010,  Steve Jobs wrote a scathing review of Flash and in it explained why Apple products wouldn’t support it.

Google’s Flash Announcement:

For 20 years, Flash has helped shape the way that you play games, watch videos and run applications on the web. But over the last few years, Flash has become less common. Three years ago, 80 percent of desktop Chrome users visited a site with Flash each day. Today usage is only 17 percent and continues to decline.

This trend reveals that sites are migrating to open web technologies, which are faster and more power-efficient than Flash. They’re also more secure, so you can be safer while shopping, banking, or reading sensitive documents. They also work on both mobile and desktop, so you can visit your favorite site anywhere.

These open web technologies became the default experience for Chrome late last year when sites started needing to ask your permission to run Flash. Chrome will continue phasing out Flash over the next few years, first by asking for your permission to run Flash in more situations, and eventually disabling it by default. We will remove Flash completely from Chrome toward the end of 2020.

If you regularly visit a site that uses Flash today, you may be wondering how this affects you. If the site migrates to open web standards, you shouldn’t notice much difference except that you’ll no longer see prompts to run Flash on that site. If the site continues to use Flash, and you give the site permission to run Flash, it will work through the end of 2020.

It’s taken a lot of close work with Adobe, other browsers, and major publishers to make sure the web is ready to be Flash-free. We’re supportive of Adobe’s announcement today, and we look forward to working with everyone to make the web even better.

Apple has a long relationship with Adobe. In fact, we met Adobe’s founders when they were in their proverbial garage. Apple was their first big customer, adopting their Postscript language for our new Laserwriter printer. Apple invested in Adobe and owned around 20% of the company for many years. The two companies worked closely together to pioneer desktop publishing and there were many good times. Since that golden era, the companies have grown apart. Apple went through its near death experience, and Adobe was drawn to the corporate market with their Acrobat products. Today the two companies still work together to serve their joint creative customers – Mac users buy around half of Adobe’s Creative Suite products – but beyond that there are few joint interests.

I wanted to jot down some of our thoughts on Adobe’s Flash products so that customers and critics may better understand why we do not allow Flash on iPhones, iPods and iPads. Adobe has characterized our decision as being primarily business driven – they say we want to protect our App Store – but in reality it is based on technology issues. Adobe claims that we are a closed system, and that Flash is open, but in fact the opposite is true. Let me explain.

First, there’s “Open”.

Adobe’s Flash products are 100% proprietary. They are only available from Adobe, and Adobe has sole authority as to their future enhancement, pricing, etc. While Adobe’s Flash products are widely available, this does not mean they are open, since they are controlled entirely by Adobe and available only from Adobe. By almost any definition, Flash is a closed system.

Apple has many proprietary products too. Though the operating system for the iPhone, iPod and iPad is proprietary, we strongly believe that all standards pertaining to the web should be open. Rather than use Flash, Apple has adopted HTML5, CSS and JavaScript – all open standards. Apple’s mobile devices all ship with high performance, low power implementations of these open standards. HTML5, the new web standard that has been adopted by Apple, Google and many others, lets web developers create advanced graphics, typography, animations and transitions without relying on third party browser plug-ins (like Flash). HTML5 is completely open and controlled by a standards committee, of which Apple is a member.

Apple even creates open standards for the web. For example, Apple began with a small open source project and created WebKit, a complete open-source HTML5 rendering engine that is the heart of the Safari web browser used in all our products. WebKit has been widely adopted. Google uses it for Android’s browser, Palm uses it, Nokia uses it, and RIM (Blackberry) has announced they will use it too. Almost every smartphone web browser other than Microsoft’s uses WebKit. By making its WebKit technology open, Apple has set the standard for mobile web browsers.

Second, there’s the “full web”.

Adobe has repeatedly said that Apple mobile devices cannot access “the full web” because 75% of video on the web is in Flash. What they don’t say is that almost all this video is also available in a more modern format, H.264, and viewable on iPhones, iPods and iPads. YouTube, with an estimated 40% of the web’s video, shines in an app bundled on all Apple mobile devices, with the iPad offering perhaps the best YouTube discovery and viewing experience ever. Add to this video from Vimeo, Netflix, Facebook, ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, ESPN, NPR, Time, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Sports Illustrated, People, National Geographic, and many, many others. iPhone, iPod and iPad users aren’t missing much video.

Another Adobe claim is that Apple devices cannot play Flash games. This is true. Fortunately, there are over 50,000 games and entertainment titles on the App Store, and many of them are free. There are more games and entertainment titles available for iPhone, iPod and iPad than for any other platform in the world.

Third, there’s reliability, security and performance.

Symantec recently highlighted Flash for having one of the worst security records in 2009. We also know first hand that Flash is the number one reason Macs crash. We have been working with Adobe to fix these problems, but they have persisted for several years now. We don’t want to reduce the reliability and security of our iPhones, iPods and iPads by adding Flash.

In addition, Flash has not performed well on mobile devices. We have routinely asked Adobe to show us Flash performing well on a mobile device, any mobile device, for a few years now. We have never seen it. Adobe publicly said that Flash would ship on a smartphone in early 2009, then the second half of 2009, then the first half of 2010, and now they say the second half of 2010. We think it will eventually ship, but we’re glad we didn’t hold our breath. Who knows how it will perform?

Fourth, there’s battery life.

To achieve long battery life when playing video, mobile devices must decode the video in hardware; decoding it in software uses too much power. Many of the chips used in modern mobile devices contain a decoder called H.264 – an industry standard that is used in every Blu-ray DVD player and has been adopted by Apple, Google (YouTube), Vimeo, Netflix and many other companies.

Although Flash has recently added support for H.264, the video on almost all Flash websites currently requires an older generation decoder that is not implemented in mobile chips and must be run in software. The difference is striking: on an iPhone, for example, H.264 videos play for up to 10 hours, while videos decoded in software play for less than 5 hours before the battery is fully drained.

When websites re-encode their videos using H.264, they can offer them without using Flash at all. They play perfectly in browsers like Apple’s Safari and Google’s Chrome without any plugins whatsoever, and look great on iPhones, iPods and iPads.

Fifth, there’s Touch.

Flash was designed for PCs using mice, not for touch screens using fingers. For example, many Flash websites rely on “rollovers”, which pop up menus or other elements when the mouse arrow hovers over a specific spot. Apple’s revolutionary multi-touch interface doesn’t use a mouse, and there is no concept of a rollover. Most Flash websites will need to be rewritten to support touch-based devices. If developers need to rewrite their Flash websites, why not use modern technologies like HTML5, CSS and JavaScript?

Even if iPhones, iPods and iPads ran Flash, it would not solve the problem that most Flash websites need to be rewritten to support touch-based devices.

Sixth, the most important reason.

Besides the fact that Flash is closed and proprietary, has major technical drawbacks, and doesn’t support touch based devices, there is an even more important reason we do not allow Flash on iPhones, iPods and iPads. We have discussed the downsides of using Flash to play video and interactive content from websites, but Adobe also wants developers to adopt Flash to create apps that run on our mobile devices.

We know from painful experience that letting a third party layer of software come between the platform and the developer ultimately results in sub-standard apps and hinders the enhancement and progress of the platform. If developers grow dependent on third party development libraries and tools, they can only take advantage of platform enhancements if and when the third party chooses to adopt the new features. We cannot be at the mercy of a third party deciding if and when they will make our enhancements available to our developers.

This becomes even worse if the third party is supplying a cross platform development tool. The third party may not adopt enhancements from one platform unless they are available on all of their supported platforms. Hence developers only have access to the lowest common denominator set of features. Again, we cannot accept an outcome where developers are blocked from using our innovations and enhancements because they are not available on our competitor’s platforms.

Flash is a cross platform development tool. It is not Adobe’s goal to help developers write the best iPhone, iPod and iPad apps. It is their goal to help developers write cross platform apps. And Adobe has been painfully slow to adopt enhancements to Apple’s platforms. For example, although Mac OS X has been shipping for almost 10 years now, Adobe just adopted it fully (Cocoa) two weeks ago when they shipped CS5. Adobe was the last major third party developer to fully adopt Mac OS X.

Our motivation is simple – we want to provide the most advanced and innovative platform to our developers, and we want them to stand directly on the shoulders of this platform and create the best apps the world has ever seen. We want to continually enhance the platform so developers can create even more amazing, powerful, fun and useful applications. Everyone wins – we sell more devices because we have the best apps, developers reach a wider and wider audience and customer base, and users are continually delighted by the best and broadest selection of apps on any platform.

Conclusions.

Flash was created during the PC era – for PCs and mice. Flash is a successful business for Adobe, and we can understand why they want to push it beyond PCs. But the mobile era is about low power devices, touch interfaces and open web standards – all areas where Flash falls short.

The avalanche of media outlets offering their content for Apple’s mobile devices demonstrates that Flash is no longer necessary to watch video or consume any kind of web content. And the 250,000 apps on Apple’s App Store proves that Flash isn’t necessary for tens of thousands of developers to create graphically rich applications, including games.

New open standards created in the mobile era, such as HTML5, will win on mobile devices (and PCs too). Perhaps Adobe should focus more on creating great HTML5 tools for the future, and less on criticizing Apple for leaving the past behind.

When you're running late for a scheduled meeting, for example, Siri might suggest that you call your boss either on the Home screen or when you swipe down to search and access the Siri Suggestions options. Siri suggestions are all based on your personal device usage habits, so what you see will vary. There's also a feature in iOS called 'Siri Shortcuts,' which are shortcuts and automations that let you complete multi-step tasks on your iPhone. Siri Shortcuts are so named because Siri will suggest them to you and because you can activate Shortcuts with a Siri trigger word.

For many Mac users, one of the top features of macOS 10.14 Mojave will be the new Home app and support for controlling HomeKit devices with Siri on the Mac. Both of these have been sorely missed in previous versions of macOS, but Mojave is finally changes things…

First and foremost, macOS 10.14 features a new Home app. As Apple explained on stage at WWDC, this is one of the applications it brought from iOS to macOS using new cross-platform frameworks.

On the surface, it’s not necessarily clear that the Home app was brought directly from iOS to macOS. It looks and operates like a Mac app for the most part, though there are some instances where things feel a bit wonky.

For instances, when you would 3D Touch in iOS app, you have to right-click on macOS. This isn’t explicitly clear and causes some funky windowing to occur. However, what’s important to remember here is that this is only the first beta of macOS 10.14 Mojave, and we can expect Apple to refine things as the testing continues over the coming months.
