okay so i had to go back and like, research this entire thing because i had two separate events completely mixed up and like, parts of both events mashed together in my brain! i'll explain both though

scooter braun has been accused more than once of pulling strings to prevent kpop artists and groups from getting radio play in the US, most of these claims were back from like 2015-2020. he also had a kpop client he was meant to handle named cl whose american debut he was supposed to manage but he didn't take her seriously and put her on the back burner like he tends to do with all of his clients who aren't justin and ari. afaik, she's not spoken out against him or anything tho (source)

back when ariana released thank u next, a chinese artist named kris wu (i believe he was formerly a member of exo which is why i thought he was a kpop artist! i dont really listen to or pay attention to male kpop groups) had also released an album. when wu's album pushed thank u next off of the charts, scooter (and ariana) publicly accused him of using bots to get streams and achieve the feat.
