nowadays when i post graphics their sizes are already reduced for rentry, but i just love these graphics SO DAMN MUCH that i have to show off the higher quality versions in the main post so it's the FIRST THING PEOPLE SEE.

How do you make your templates?

Here’s what you gotta do!

The Internetoverdosed Method (patent pending)

1. Gather what you need

You’ll need an image-hosting website, editing software, and a gif-editing website.

I personally use postimages.org (imgur used to be good, but they’re starting to delete accounts when they’re not active), Clip Studio Paint, and ezgif.com. But you can use whatever!

For image hosting in particular, I can also recommend imgbox.com for image hosting that doesn’t require an account.

I also use Pinterest for inspiration, as well as to gather assets for editing~

2. Find an image you want to use

This image should have a very strong color palette! This color palette can be anything, though, really…

3. Edit the image

As much or as little to your liking! I typically clip my images onto a shape. Like a star or heart.

4. Find small pixel art pieces that match your color palette

I use tumblr for this! I search the tags “#favicon(s)’, ‘#decome’ and ‘#pixel(s)’. But there are lots of carrds, Neocities sites and rentries that gather a ton of pixel art pieces in one place, too!

If the pixel art doesn’t exactly match your main image, throw it in your editing or gif editing tool and edit it to match better!

5. Set it all up!

Rentry’s ‘how’ tab is a great place to start if you’re confused on how anything works!

As for the contents of your site, I personally always include names, pronouns, age and race. Plus room for other misc labels, whether that be LGBT+ labels, diagnoses or other such things. But you can put whatever you see fit!

Tips!

Accessibility over aesthetics ALWAYS!! People moved from rentry to carrd because rentry is easier to read… So making your rentry hard to read defeats the point!! In the words of Dieter Rams, “Good design is as little design as possible.” In this vein: don’t skimp out on alt text either!

Check how your rentry looks on mobile. And in dark vs light mode too!

The limited amount of colored text you can use (blue and pink text, yellow highlights and blue, green, yellow and red spaces) is great if it matches your color palette!

You can also use text deco to fancy it up even more. (Just make sure it doesn’t turn into an emoji on mobile!) I don’t use a particular website for this. I just Google it! BUT don’t use those fancy fonts! Screenreaders can’t read those, and what did we just say about accessibility?

CREDIT YOUR ARTISTS! You can link to someone via an image.

There are lots of places that host small LGBT+ pride flags and other such things for your rentries! In fact… I’m an admin on one! /pixelflags is a super extensive LGBT+ flag-hosting resource and has a even requesting form.

Similarly, /madpride is another rentry resource that I admin! It hosts disability and disorder pride flags / symbols, and also has a requesting form.

just search up "lace dividers" or "lace graphics" on Tumblr :3 I can send you some of the ones I useddd.. you can also search rentry graphics for extra decorations

for the images I just used some of his fnf sprites and screenshotted an image from an eddisode

to import gifs you gotta open the gif in a new canvas and right click the folder with the gif frames and press "duplicate to" and then press the canvas you want the gif on. to move all of the frames together make sure you have your controls set to "folder" and not "layer" (this mistake made me mad 😭)

LOL dude , thats how you create your own editing style !

Listen listen ,,, no one is good at making graphics first try . I think that once you stop thinking that + how “ nice everyone ‘s graphics look “ you can definitely make your own stuff !

I felt like this when I want to join editblr and make my own graphics . I had to take a step back and realize that making good rentries and graphics take time .

also there are lots of tutorials to help you with graphic making ! You just gotta find them !!

so in short , don’t quit . Don’t feel discouraged . I bet your graphics are as wonderful as everyone else’s ! ( also start editing for fun instead of for others cuz I think that’s what fueled my interest in editing . just doing it cuz I like to try it it’s so much fun man plus you get more experience with making stuff as well )

i might be able to :3c but i also do rentry templates on @digichu . just in case you’re ever too lazi to make your own. all you gotta do is go to “edit” on the rentry temp, copi the text, and put it in your own rentry!! then just edit the blanks and stuff!!! also also tho it takes practice. like even if you have the mechanics down (which i’m assuming you do since you’ve made some before) it still takes a bit to figure everithing out. tho i will say shorter rentrys are way easier for me than longer rentrys. that’z why in some of my blogs i do multiple rentrys that all link to each other. i recommend trying to mix pixels/favicons with symbols (which, if you ever need good pixels i also run @digitalita and everithing there is organized with tags) to give it a more cohesive yet randomized look. just one or the other usualli looks to plain, but it’z realli personal taste. and hey, there’s nothing wrong with using carrd!! no pressure to figure out rentry. just take it slow!!!
