Oldest Friend pt. 2

A TMR/TDC Gally x FEMcharacter imagine.

This is Part2 to Oldest Friend Part 1 :)

Hi:) I haven’t read Kill Order but have seen the movies and read the other 3 books, this is just a story I’ve had in my head, a character that I created, and the way I picture everything going. LMK if there’s anything you’d like to see in this, and feedback is welcomed! Reminder that this is very windy and lengthy and that’s just how I write lol. 

triggers: still none that I can think of, LMK if there is anything that I should put as a trigger. 

word count: 3582  (again, I’ve always written lengthy stuff and can shorten or add more to the next ones if preferred, I just always want to make sure the backstory and details that are in my head get put in)

He jolted awake. The sun was brighter than normal… he was late! He jumped up and started pulling on the first pair of pants he saw, running around and trying to grab a shirt, belt and shoes as fast he could. Man, his ass was grass when he got to-

“What the bloody hell are you doing, Gally.” Came a voice from behind him. Frozen in his tracks, Gally ever so slightly turned his head. Newt was propped up in his bed, staring at him. Confused, he glanced over at the clock above the door. 6:47 AM. They usually didn’t even get to the cafeteria for breakfast until about 8:30.

“The.. sun.. is bright?” he started, plopping back into bed and throwing his clothes to the ground. A glance around showed the other two boys, Ben and Minho, sound asleep in their own beds. Newt rolled his eyes at him.

“One of those wanks probably left the curtains open again.” He sighed, sinking back down into the covers. He shot Gally a smirk and gave him a quick look over.

“What…” Gally asked, scooting back and leaning against the wall.

“I’d try to get some more sleep if I were you, mate,” he teased, reaching to pull the string and close the curtains before laying back down. “all that sneaking about at all hours of the night will catch up to you eventually.” Gally about came out of his skin! Newt knew… he looked at the other two, snoozing away, wondering if they knew, too. Newt let out a laugh as if he read his mind, “Relax, Gal, they don’t have any clue. Mind telling me what’s so important to lose sleep over, though?”

“I..” he had every intention of playing as if he had no idea what he meant but Newt shot him the ‘I’m-not-stupid’ look. “met someone… who enjoys losing sleep to see me, too…” he mumbled, pulling his covers up over his chin to hide his pink cheeks.

“Ahh, well, c’mon, don’t be shy now, who is it?” Newt sat back up in his bed and crossed his legs. Gally hesitated, what if this got him in trouble? What if he got her in trouble? Newt seemed to be pretty good at that mind reading stuff. “Chill, mate, I don’t care what you do as long as your back here by morning and have a pulse.”

“It’s… a girl?’ Gally started. They gave each other a puzzled look and then burst out laughing. “I don’t even know where to start.”

“Well... how about the beginning then?” Newt prompted. Instead of going back to sleep, Gally spent the rest of his morning gushing over Meghan with Newt listening to every word. He didn’t give up her name and wanted to keep a good amount of what they had talked about between just them, but Newt understood. After a couple hours of spilling his guts and Newt poking fun at him, the other two guys woke up and it was time to head to breakfast. They got there a bit earlier than normal but she was still the first one at the table. He quickly gathered his food and sped to claim the seat next to her.

“Hey, Meg.” He breathed, excited to see her. Her long hair was up in a loose bun that sat at the top of her head, and it seemed she decided to wear her glasses instead of contacts. Hmm, she usually only did that when she was tired. She had just taken a big bite of her eggs and turned to hi with wide eyes.

“Heh, Guhl” she laughed, covering her mouth while she finished chewing. Shit… he thought. Why do you have to be so damn cute!! She leaned in and bumped her side into his for a second before leaning back to her seat and wiping her mouth with a napkin. “How’s your morning, Gal?”

“Umm.. well..” he gathered himself, turning pink and trying to get the guts to tell her. He couldn’t though… “So, Newt had figured out I was sneaking about… and I sort of…” he stopped and gave her a look, seeing her freeze.

“You… what?” she whispered, looking around. “Are we in trouble!”

“No! No, course not. I mean, not that I know of. I just..” he took a deep breath.  “I told him I was meeting up with you. But- hey, I didn’t actually SAY it was YOU!” he ended with, seeing as her jaw dropped to the floor.

“Well!” she demanded, turning toward him and grabbing his arm, dropping her voice to a whisper again. “What did he say!”

“Meg, Gally.” The voice made them jump and she recoiled back to her own space. Newt had snuck up on them, coming up behind them to come take his seat at the table. He gave them a sly grin. “Mornin’.”

“Morning..” she mumbled, stuffing her face with food. She glanced at Newt first, then to Gally through the tops of her glasses. Newt starting laughing as he picked at his food, earning a stomp on the foot from Gally. Their table slowly filled up and started humming with conversation.

“Aye, Gally, man you ready for today? Heard we’re headed out to the desert again.” Clint said, plopping down next to Meghan and almost knocking her plate off the table. He took a piece of toast and shoved it into his mouth.

“Hopefully ya got enough sleep…” Newt mumbled before taking a sip of his orange juice, raising his eyebrows at them. Meghan started choking on her eggs and Gally went to stomp his foot again but missed, getting Clint instead.

“Ohw duhd whuht th hehl!” he yelled, food flying out of his mouth. Everyone started laughing at the chaos happening but luckily seemed to miss the big picture. Gally gave Meg a little smile from the side and jumped back into the back and forth with everyone else. She smiled big at him, happy. She couldn’t help but feel nervous though, she was so afraid of getting themselves in trouble. The last time someone got in big trouble… well… they hadn’t seen Alby since. And she really didn’t want to find out why.

She remembered it very clearly. Alby had been acting funny for days then finally, the last time they ever saw him, burst into the cafeteria screaming something about brainwashing and lies before 7 armed guards rushed in and tranquillized him. She quickly wiped the tears from her eyes before anyone could see and snapped back into reality.

And just like that they went back to their quiet life as they knew it. Newt kept their secret and they still got to meet in that dusty old storage room. They each had decided that they wanted to tell the other about what they had been feeling but every time one of them wanted to the words wouldn’t form. So, they had both been trying in subtle ways. Hugging goodnight, playful shoves when they walked, grazing hands any chance they got, literally anything to get a smile out of each other.

Of course, the next day Gally would tell Newt about the night before and complain about how he felt so stupid for not telling her how he felt. Newt would give him the best advice he could, but he also didn’t really know how to handle it; there weren’t actually any instances of romantic relationships in here that they knew of. Mainly he just sat and listened. Gally and Newt grew closer as their talks became more frequent but not necessarily just about Meg. Newt just… understood him. What it felt like to be in this place, the frustrations of not knowing what direction their lives were going. He understood why Gally risked getting in trouble to sneak out, why he clung to what he had with Meg. He even understood why Gally would pick and choose what he told him about her. I get it mate, you keep her secrets like she keeps yours. Protect her and shit. You’re a good lad, Gal.

Then came the day they all got to work together. Meg was out in the desert working on updating some program and Gally and Newt were out building those giant walls again. When the lab techs landed WCKD had the guys pair up with them to test whatever devices they had, and of course Meg made a beeline to Gally.

“Alright, everyone! Don’t touch them wires they’ve got on you, we need em to get accurate results! And keep track of the weather, them dark clouds are rollin in fast and those wires can’t get wet! You four, go back to the walls. Then you two, we need these two buildings put together. But you each do one, don’t team up. Only use what’s been put out for ya, too.” One of the white coats instructed before heading back into the burg and taking off.

“Alright, doc, what the hell is this stuff?” he teased, turning and motioning to the little suction cups and wires she had stuck to his chest and neck. She barely glanced up from her tablet to meet his eyes.

“For your vitals.” She had been acting funny. She hadn’t said a single word at breakfast, and these were the first words she had said to him out here. He walked over and pretended to look at what she was doing.

“Meg…” he started, but she reached down and squeezed his hand, not even looking at him.

“We need to talk.” She was barely audible. And just as quick as she grabbed him, she let him go. She took a few steps back and looked him up and down, making him blush. “Alright, Gally, I need you to start lifting stuff.” He shot a look to Newt, who wasn’t too far away getting ready to work on the other structure.

Newt stifled a laugh and yelled, “Aye! You heard the woman, get to work, ya wank!”

It honestly wasn’t a bad day. There wasn’t much out for him to use for this one, some wood, hammers, nails and rope. It was definitely less than he would do on a regular day, so he wasn’t going to complain too much. Not to mention he got to show off in front of her. There were a few times he could’ve sworn he had caught her looking, but when he would double check her nose was always buried back in those tablets. A few times she came over and adjust the wires on him that he wasn’t sure was really necessary for whatever was on those tablets… but again, he wasn’t going to complain.

Eventually the shed.. hut… whatever it was he built, it was done. She went around and shook it a few times but it stayed standing, so she gave him a thumbs up. She ran back over to him and had him hold one of the tablets while she worked on them both.

“So.. what exactly are you doing to me?” he asked. She was quiet for a bit before responding, furring her brows and something on the screen.

“Okay, so these wires I have on you? They’re recording your vitals: heart rate, brain patterns, anything in your system that changes and whether or not it could be from something physical or not. That goes to this tablet,” she motioned to the one in his hands, then motioned to the one she had. “and this one is hooked up to… something… somewhere. It’s a remote system that doesn’t have to be hooked up to you but still is able to monitor all your vitals but without having to have anything actually on you. But they aren’t adding up right now..” she trailed off.

He moved behind her, looking down at both the tablets. She froze for a second then leaned into him, continuing to mess with the tablets. But… he could see the screens. The numbers were identical. He blushed, realizing what she was doing. He reached around her as if he was pointing at something on the one in her hands, resting his arm around her shoulder.

“Ahh, there. I see it, that’s what isn’t matching.” He said, his heart racing as she leaned into him more. He let out a laugh when he realized the system had picked up on his pulse quickening. She looked up at him and gave him a silly face but when she looked down she let out a giggle when she saw it. She stepped away and looked back at him.

“Looks like all that lifting had loosened a wire, here, I need to get these back in sync.” She pushed a button on each screen, then reached up toward where the wires were suctioned to his neck. He tensed up for a second but then relaxed into her touch. “Just need to triple check on your pulse.” She said softly. At first she really did seem to check for a pulse, but after a few moments she cupped his face, giving him a small smile. He felt his heart jump into his throat.

And then the rain started. He felt it first, two tiny drops hitting his forehead. Then it seemed to come down in sheets. He started tearing the wires off as they ran to the hut, picking up a dry cloth once he got in there and starting to dry them off. Meg stood in the far end of it, throwing her hair into a loose bun.

“Well, at least this part was done!” she laughed, laying he tablets on the floor. She crossed the room and stared out of the doorway for a few awkward seconds before turning back to him. “Gally, can we talk?”

“Yes.” He said a little too quickly. He tossed the wires to the ground and started toward her, ready to finally get the words out. He stopped right in front of her, she wouldn’t meet his eyes.

“So, I need to know…” she started, still not meeting his eyes. “Do you want the good or bad first?”

“What.” He said flatly, the question taking him off guard. “Um.. go ahead with the good. Bad is bad either way.” She looked up at him with glossy eyes, giving him a small smile and coming toward him.

“Now.. don’t be mad at me. I should’ve asked first…” she started crossing her arms. “But I stumbled into the database and didn’t know if I would be able to get back into it and-” he grabbed her on either side of her face.

“Spit it out, Meg!” He teased, dropping his hands down to her shoulders.

“Happy late birthday, Gal.” she whispered, reaching up and grabbing one of his hands. “You’re 17 now!” He gave her a blank look. He hadn’t thought of birthdays in a long time… or about how old he was. Yeah, of course, he knew he was older. But he hadn’t really thought about it in years.

“I’m 17?” he mumbled, wrapping his head around it. “Wait, how long ago?”

“About a couple weeks, they track our ages for their data. I was in there and came across mine and when I thought of yours… I just wanted to know.” In one swift movement he picked her up and spun her around, earning a laughing fit from her. He sat her down after a few spins and pulled her into a big hug.

“Thank you, Meg! When do I get to tell you happy birthday, then?” he asked, pulling back and looking at her. She laughed at that, reaching up and running her fingers through his hair, giving him goosebumps.

“About 10 months, young one. I turned 17 a couple months ago.” She teased.

“Young one!” he said, raising his eyebrows at her. “I may be young but at least I’m not short!” he winked at her. She pulled her arm back and gave her a playful smack on the chest.

“Hey! I am above average height for a girl my age!”  she exclaimed, standing on the tips of her toes. Even doing that still made the top of her head come to his chin. He couldn’t help it anymore, he reached out and pulled her close, cupping her face in his hands. She seemed taken aback but didn’t pull away, instead reaching up and mirroring him. And then it happened.

Their first kiss. They both froze for a second, neither of them sure what they were doing. But then she leaned into him, pulling him as close as she could. That was all the confirmation he needed. He wrapped his arms around her and they stood locked there for who knows how long, only coming apart for air. He pushed her toward one of the walls and started to run his hands over her body while she knotted her fingers in his hair. All of a sudden she pushed him back, her face a flushed pink and hair a mess.

“Gally! We.. what.. are you?” she couldn’t get a full sentence out. She glanced toward the wide-open doorway and back to him. “That was…”

“Great.” He started, walking toward her. “Fantastic. Long overdue. Well… at least on my part it was.” He stopped in front of her, putting his hands in his pockets to stop himself from pulling her back to him. “I’m sorry… I’ve wanted to do that for a long time now an-” she cut him off, her lips crashing back into his for one long, hard kiss. She pulled back, cupping his face in her hands.

“Don’t you apologize for that again. Ever.” She dropped her hands and wrapped her arms around his waist, resting her head on his chest. “We just… we need to be really careful from here on out, Gally.”

“Careful? He asked, wrapping his arms back around her and resting his chin atop her head.

“I.. I need to tell you the bad news now.” She locked her arms around him, not letting him go. “Is that okay?” he started running his hands up and down her back.

“Of course… are you okay?” he mumbled as he felt her start to shake.

“No.” she couldn’t keep her voice even. “Gally, I found Alby. And Nick.”

He tried to pull back from her, shocked, but she had that iron grip on him. Found them? What did she mean by ‘found them’? He relaxed back into her, waiting for what she was going to say next.

“They.. they’re in the other maze.” She whispered, finally pulling back to look up at him. “ We created the maze to put them there. And they…” she trailed off, letting her tears fall.

“What?” he asked, unable to hide the scared look on his face. “They what, Meg?” She took a deep breath and steadied her voice.

“They don’t know who they are. They know their names. But only that. Nothing of who they were before they were put in that… that prison.” She spat, breaking away from him and walking back to peer out the door.

“What do you mean… by any of this?” he slowly walked and stood next to her. He looked down at her and saw the tears running down her face.

“I… I’ve gotten in trouble. My work wasn’t what it used to be. They were holding this… project over my head. And I wanted to do it so bad, Gally.” She looked up at him. It broke his heart to see her so sad. “And I finally got to go in… but I wish I hadn’t…” she started to explain as much as she possibly could to him, scaring him bad. If what she told him was true, that means that THEY are the experiments… not animals, not other people. THEM. He didn’t want to believe it but why would she make this up? He started to tear up, too. “And… Gally..”

“Yes?” he croaked, stepping close to her.

“I think they’re killing us. I don’t know how, I don’t know if we’re just a casualty of the experiment, but… they’re just… waiting.” She whispered.

“On wha-”

“On someone to die.” She interrupted. The way she said it was so matter-of-fact. He pulled her back into him, making sure she was still looking at him.

“They won’t hurt you, Meg.” She started to interrupt him but he kept going. “Understand? I don’t know what the hell is happening or what I’m going to do but I’m going to make sure you aren’t a part of this. Not you.” He started crying too, planting one more kiss on her forehead. When they pulled apart she started rubbing her face, ridding the evidence of any crying. He did the same, walking out into the last bit of the rain and waiting on her to grab her stuff. She came out, tablets in hand.

“Ready?” she sighed. He shook his head, walking back into the hut. He came back out with the wires and handed them over to her.

“Don’t wanna lose these.” He joked. She gave him a smile and ran to catch up with Newt, who had already started toward the burg, which had apparently landed at some point during the storm. As soon as she couldn’t see him, he let his expression turn dark. It would be over his cold, dead body before he let anyone, even WCKD, harm one hair on her head.

 ✨ first, a disclaimer! this is a list of things which i have found to subjectively improve my own appearance. i’m sure there’s many more treatments i’ve missed, and you may also feel that some of these treatments aren’t for you- i’ve just included everything which i have enjoyed personally in order to inform you of your options, from which you can make your own decisions on which to take part in. also, little blurb; what society or others think of you doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things and it is not my goal to promote being concerned with these things here. these are meant to help you be more excited about your own appearance every morning when you wake up, and take more time and care for yourself. partaking in these activities should add to your life, not subtract. ur all cute and valuable already ✨

✨ 𝕙𝕒𝕚𝕣  ✨

bleach/dye: personally i am a huge fan of foil highlights! tons of gals look amazing with dark hair or their natural hair color, but i have found that, for me, they really brighten the face and add depth to my hair. you could also darken your hair, do balayage, or tone it a different shade. i always recommend going to an actual well-rated salon rather than attempting to do it at home. they can ensure you’re getting the proper undertones and the correct volume developer for your hair. if you’re getting your hair bleached, look for a salon that uses olaplex or a similar bond builder in the mixture to avoid completely damaging the structure of your hair. at home, i tone my hair to remove gold/brassy tones with either this pravana mask, or a tiny amount of this semi-permanent violet hair dye mixed into my conditioner (you should only leave this in for a minute the first time as it can be very strong). i’ve found most purple shampoos are quite harsh, especially on fragile hair, so i always go for conditioner.

at-home protein treatments: if your hair is damaged from dying or styling it, i highly recommend using a protein mask on it at home once a week when you can to restore the structure of your hair. olaplex no 3 is a popular option but i really like this k-beauty collagen mask for a way cheaper option that works just as well in my opinion! many brands make protein and keratin masks though so feel free to order whichever you like.

cleansing conditioner: if you’ve used every “hydrating” and “repairing” shampoo + conditioner under the sun but your hair is still dry or fragile, i recommend using cleansing conditioner instead! shampoo, even sulfate free ones, can create friction and cause tearing in your hair, but cleansing conditioner cleans your hair without stripping or damaging it! i love this one from renpure and it’s a lot cheaper than other cleansing conditioners like wen, which i found to be less effective and weigh the hair down. if your hair does ever start to feel a little weighed down or oily, use shampoo to clean it more deeply- i tend to use it once every 1-2 weeks depending on how much i’ve been working out. cleansing conditioner will also help maintain a keratin treatment as it won’t strip the treatment from your hair, which brings me to this next consideration...

keratin treatments: keratin treatments are a semi-permanent treatment which help to make your hair quite a lot straighter, and much smoother, softer, shinier, and dry quicker! these help so much if you have frizzy or damaged hair, or your curl pattern is super irregular like mine! curly hair is beautiful too but if your curl pattern is tough to manage and make look pretty, then they’re a great option. a lot of people ask me if they're damaging but i find that they really help with my damaged fake-blonde hair and my hair stylist agrees, but he said to stay away from relaxers or japanese straightening treatments if your hair is fragile as those can be very damaging! if you’re in nyc, i recommend ‘hair bar nyc,’ their treatments are around $100 and last a couple months before they start to fade. i always go for their strongest solution, the 24 karat.

hair growth vitamins: personally i had short hair for a long time and loved it and still think it looks great on so many people! but i’m currently growing it out, so i’ve been taking hair vitamins daily to speed up the process. any brand works, but i love this brand ‘hair anew’ on amazon, or any store-brand which contains extra nutrients like zinc and pantothenic acid (not just plain biotin) as i feel that they work better and also clear my skin. they also help grow your nails longer and stronger, your eyebrows thicker, and your lashes longer and thicker!

hair extensions: these are less common/necessary, but for girls whose hair is much shorter than they want it, is damaged from bleach/dye/heat, or whose hair is quite thin, clip-in extensions can be a game changer. i’ve had tape-in extensions before and found that not only did they damage my hair and thin it out incredibly badly afterward, but they also truly were a lot of work to style and still looked bad after half an hour of trying to get it to work. a pair of clip-in remy extensions should also only set you back $60-100 while any sort of semi-permanent extension is far more expensive. i currently have this brand fullshine from amazon but it may also be wise to find a beauty supply store where you can match your hair to the extensions. this is also a great method of showing your hair stylist exactly what color you want your hair dyed to be! and pro-tip, never ever use shampoo on your extensions if you want them to last more than a month before they’re ratty and you need new ones. only ever wash them with plain conditioner, every couple of weeks!

shower filters: if you live in a place which has hard water, this can make your hair more brittle, dry, frizzy, tangled, and even make your hair a shade of green, due to the dissolved minerals drying in your hair. i installed this water filter in my shower to purify the water. it only takes 5 minutes; you simply twist off your showerhead,  twist the filter on, and then twist the showerhead back on. they also help with acne, eczema, and dandruff! i definitely noticed a difference in my hair softness when i got one.

leave-in treatments: i figure my favorite leave in-conditioners and serums are worth a mention here! i’ve been using the same 2-3 products for several years and i’ve never found anything that works as well as them. the two non-negotiables for me are it’s a 10 leave-in conditioner with keratin, and either biosilk or chi silk infusion. and if and when my hair is very dry or damaged from recent bleaching, i also put some moroccanoil on the ends. 

✨ 𝕖𝕪𝕖𝕤 ✨

brows: at-home tinting is a quick and cost effective way to make your brows more defined! i’ve used henna dyes before, which also dye the skin beneath the brows and make them look extra thick, but i found that lighter colors were always more orange than “light brown.” instead i love and use this brand of lash/brow dye. i don’t buy their developer- i just followed a reviewer’s instructions to mix equal parts hydrogen peroxide and dye, and it works great! and obviously choose the color which suits your hair color. also worth mentioning, the light brown can be quite light or quite dark depending on how long you leave it on so start with 5 minutes and go from there! 

also, of course always keep your eyebrows well-shaped! if you’ve never had them shaped before, it’s a good idea to get it done professionally first and then maintain it at home with tweezers. i’m a big fan of benefit brow bar for waxing! they have stand-alone locations or smaller bars in a lot of ulta’s.

lashes: getting your lashes done is a great way to feel more done-up even without makeup! lash extensions are amazing at defining your eyes and making them look bigger and more awake, but they’re also a lot of money and upkeep. personally i love lash lifts as i have long lashes (from hair growth vitamins woo) but they just don’t curl very well and are super blonde; a lash lift dyes and curls them and lasts far longer than extensions with no bi-weekly touch-up appointments! if you're not opting for any treatments, i’d still recommend hair growth vitamins to grow your lashes longer!

you can also dye your lashes at home! i’ve tried at-home lash lift kits several times and i found them all messy and completely ineffective, possibly due to my lack of skill, but i couldn’t personally recommend them as of yet. i would recommend at-home lash tints though! if i don’t currently have my lashes curled and tinted from a lash lift, i will use this dye, which is the black version of my eyebrow tint, and use the same hydrogen peroxide formula as described above, to dye my lashes black. it’s great if you’re lazy with makeup, going swimming, or wanna look a lil extra cute when you're at home.

✨𝕤𝕜𝕚𝕟𝕔𝕒����𝕖 ✨ 

professional facials are a great option if you want to feel pampered, get extractions from someone who knows how to do it properly, or get an intensive peel or mask. but they can also get incredibly expensive, while some of their treatments can be done entirely at home! 

physical exfoliation: this is pretty important for basically any skin type, in order to remove dead skin cells! you should avoid harsh scrubs, like those with walnut shell, as they can create microtears in the skin. sugar-based scrubs are safe, but personally i use either of these two items:

-facial brushes! i got a clarisonic years ago, and i love it! if i remove my makeup, then wash my face with my hands, but then wash my face with the clarisonic, there's generally still makeup that comes off on the brush. i would recommend a clarisonic but there’s now highly rated much cheaper versions on amazon so i don’t think i’d recommend spending $100-200 on one when this $33 version with similar sonic vibrations is available.

-microdermabrasion is a great, more advanced option, for removing dead skin cells and helping to clean out your pores. the ‘diamond’ tip runs along your skin to exfoliate dead skin cells, while a vacuum pulls off the skin cells and unclogs your pores. they are a bit more expensive- i got this $90 one for christmas and love it, though there are also similar ones which run around $60 and also have great reviews. i only use this about once a week.

chemical exfoliation: this is great for brightening up the skin. whenever my skin simply looks tired, dull, or congested, i opt for a chemical exfoliant. there are tons of chemical exfoliant options, but my go-to has to be these pads by dr dennis gross. they consist of 2 pads- one with the acids which will exfoliate your skin and one with a neutralizer- and only take about 5 minutes total to use! they are an all time favorite, as i see a difference in my skin right away, but aren’t so harsh that i get any redness or peeling afterwards. the ordinary is also a great skincare brand for all kinds of acids and oils for really cheap! they make a peeling solution which one of my friend uses and she loves it, and i’ve tried a lot of their products over the years and loved them too.

general masks: there are tons of different masks to help with different skin problems and skin types. basically, you've got clay masks for oily skin, hydrating masks for dry skin, and undereye masks for when you're tired as hell.

radiofrequency machine: i first found out about this from stephanie shepherd’s top shelf interview. it’s somewhat commonly used in high end facials, and my friend who is going to cosmetology school said they're great for acne and skin tightening! to my understanding, it works by killing bacteria in the skin, and stimulating blood flow and collagen production. the one i have is only $40, which makes it seem too good to be true, but apparently studies have shown they’re effective in wrinkle reduction, and i’ve found it really helpful for making breakouts heal faster.

other products: i haven’t actually found many other products that i think are a “holy grail” item, besidesss the embryolisse lait creme concentre. i have really dry skin, especially in the winter, and actually bought myself the smallest jar of la mer available this past christmas to see if it could help, but i found it to help absolutely nothing. the lait creme, though, has made my skin actually look like normal skin again, when it used to be extremely flakey and irritated. it’s known for commonly being used backstage at a lot of couture fashion shows, which sold me on it initially lol.

✨ 𝕤𝕞𝕚𝕝𝕖 ✨

teeth whitening: i use crest whitestrips to whiten my teeth at home! i’ve found them really effective, but i’d recommend using them a bit less often than the instructions recommend. the kind i have recommends using them daily at first but, anytime i’ve used them two days in a row, my teeth were sensitive and in pain for a whole day afterwards. otherwise they’re great though, just space them out a bit!

also, of course, floss and brush your teeth morning and night! i’d also recommend adding a tiny bit of baking soda on top of your toothpaste, to help with whitening. i used to do this daily back in high school and started actually getting compliments on my teeth being white.

lip filler: as many of you know, i’ve had lip filler done, and I've received a lot of questions about them, so i thought i’d include the basic rundown here. these obviously aren’t something that you should feel ugly without. your lips can be beautiful whether or not you’re following this trend. personally, i never thought i would get lip fillers, but last year i did start noticing that when i smiled in pictures, my top lip would totally disappear. i was hesitant but went and got my lips done knowing that it would dissolve in time, and i ended up loving them and feeling totally glamorous with them! i must caution you to avoid getting too much “lip flipping” done if any. over time, my injector started putting the filler around the edges of my lips to flip my lips out and make them appear bigger. it’s okay in small doses, but some injectors start cutting corners and over-doing it, which leads to the “duck face” look, and my lips have started to look slightly pursed even at rest, but are also completely lacking volume in the middle. i’m getting them dissolved and re-done soon, but let this be a lesson to you to ask for little to no lip flipping, and ask for the filler to be more in the center of your lips. before lip flipping, no one ever seemed to notice i had anything done, then suddenly after two appointments with lip flipping, everyone and their mother started asking if ive had my lips done. so i’d highly recommend them, with that caveat in mind.

 ✨ 𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕕𝕤 + 𝕗𝕖𝕖𝕥 ✨

manicures: okay so you can do your nails at home if you’re doing regular polish, or even if you're using an at-home gel polish set. you should file them into a nice shape (i prefer them round as opposed to square, as they’re less likely to break), push back and trim your cuticles if needed, and paint them. but personally i love getting acrylics or dip powder! i always get tips added if my nails aren’t very long at the moment, and i feel that it makes my fingers look longer and more elegant and feminine. either way is cute though!

pedicures: okay so getting a pedicure at the salon is a great experience, but i also see no reason to get one given that i can just trim and paint my toenails at home. i would highly recommend ordering some peeling foot masks though- these are the ones i have. they’re these little plastic sock masks that you leave on for an hour, take off, and then ~3 days later an entire layer of your skin starts peeling off and your foot is baby soft. if it’s taking a while to peel off, go soak your feet in a bowl of warm water or in a bath/shower and scrub it off. i used to sit with a foot exfoliation machine for like 20 minutes whirring away at my feet but with these you can just chill on tumblr for an hour and then a few days later  your feet are totally renewed.

✨ 𝕓𝕠𝕕𝕪 ✨

self tanner: self-tanning is probably my #1 beauty tip. honestly i’d give up makeup, conditioner, whatever, as long as i could hold onto my bondi sands dark tanning foam. a good tan makes you look so fresh, healthy, glowing, and fit and toned. before tanning, you should try and exfoliate yourself in the shower. i use a scrubby mitt, specifically this one, which also comes with an actual tanning mitt and a mini facial tanning mitt for applying your tanner. afterwards, you’re going to want to apply some lotion on your knees, elbows, and heels, as these areas tend to be dry and soak up more self tanner and turn darker than the rest of your body. then just apply your self tanner all over with a tanning mitt, and blend well. i swear by bondi sands dark foam! st. tropez gives me an allergic reaction personally and a lot of other ones smell bad or have an orange guide-color, but bondi sands smells like coconut and has a really pretty cool-toned tan guide-color. (DHA is the active ingredient in self-tanners- its a clear chemical which reacts with the skin cells and turns them darker after a few hours, while the initial color that you see right out of the bottle is the guide-color. self-tanners will market their tan as “not orange” or something like that, but this only refers to the guide-color, not the tan itself, as they all contain DHA which turns skin the same color. regardless, i love that bondi sands has such a nice guide-color, so even when i’m pale, i can just throw some on and run out the door looking tan!) after a week or two, your tan is going to start getting patchy no matter how many layers you’ve added, so you’re either going to want to exfoliate as much off as you can and do a fresh new tan, or if i have time i’ll apply the bondi sands self-tan remover before exfoliating to get virtually all of it off.

glitter: this is a bit more out-there, but i love love love using shimmery lotions on my body. i feel like a fairy princess, but also it gets rid of that chalky flakey dry look my skin can get in the winter. before swim shoots or the victoria’s secret fashion show, models are always getting slathered in shimmery lotion or oil. there’s a lot of expensive shimmery body oils out there, but you can also just make your own with cosmetic mica and your favorite lotion (i use a gradual tanning lotion to keep my tan looking fresh). cosmetic mica is basically what they use in all the shimmery makeup you buy, and it doubles as an amazing highlighter or eyeshadow!

✨𝕞𝕒𝕜𝕖𝕦𝕡 ✨

basic tips: i’m by no means a makeup guru, but i do feel as though my makeup skills have strengthened a lot since i was a little hippie at 16 years old who just wore hemp lip balm and organic powder foundation sometimes, so here’s some tips i picked up since then. i did also take a one-day makeup masterclass in LA with a celebrity makeup artist who has done the kardashians makeup, which is where i learned virtually all these tips:

✰  let your moisturizer sit for a few minutes before applying foundation ✩ beauty blenders tend to be far better for blending liquid makeup into your skin than brushes  ✰  using just one shade of foundation on your face can make your skin look flat. either use a few different shades of foundation, or a light concealer and a darker contour stick, to add dimension to the face. also, use 2 or 3 different blush colors to add dimension  ✰  blend. more than you think you need to. your foundation, contour, blush, eyeshadow, everything. just keep blending.  ✰  don’t make your eyeliner too thick along the entire eye. this makes your eyelids and eyes look smaller. it should be thin until you thicken it at the outer corners of your eyes.  ✰  as for the rest, fill in and brush your eyebrows, wear a lip color that goes well with your skin tone, highlight the inner corners of your eyes to look more awake, use a setting spray if you want to look dewier and make your makeup last longer ✰

Remember when you first saw this postcard? You were so in love with, I couldn’t not buy it. Tickets are at the airport. Pack your luggage. Everything's ready for you. 3pm is your flight. You’ve been dreaming of this moment your whole life. I wish I was with you. Roger will make a good travel buddy, you know that now. Please soak in every last moment. I’ve been gone for a while now. You’ll be in the city of love, so open your heart. You never know what you’ll find.

“I can’t believe it.” you whisper, still staring at the postcard. “He bought it. He knew how much I adored it and he… He bought it.” 

You look up to Roger with tears in your eyes as you smile. A slight grin is on his face as he watches how excited you are over this. You look back down at it and your smile drops. 

“Wait,” you start, looking back up. “Are we… Are we going to Paris?” you ask, your eyes narrowing. 

Roger fights off an even bigger grin as he looks half shocked and surprised. 

“It said the tickets are ready for you. I think we’re going to Paris!” 

Your eyes are wide with shock as you jump up and down, squealing and shouting loudly. You ignored how bad your head hurt, but you couldn’t believe it! John had all of this planned out for you. He didn’t forget how much you wanted to visit Paris. He didn’t forget. 

You pause and look around your apartment, suddenly overwhelmed. 

“Oh my god, it said we leave at 3! We have to hurry!” 

You run as fast as you can back to your bedroom and fling your suitcase on the bed. You pack everything you can grab, making sure to miss nothing. You grab all of John’s letters and tuck them inside, followed by the postcard. You look around in a hurry and spot the black and white photo of John that you had taken. You stare at it and smile as you reach forward and pick it up. You run your fingers over the image and safely tuck it beside the letters. It needed to go with you. 

You were in such a huge hurry getting everything around, you didn’t even realize Roger had left your place and went back to his. He asked no questions about anything as he packed a suitcase as well and hurried back. If his best friend’s wish was for him to go on a little vacation with his wife, he would never say no. The look on your face was priceless when you found out you were leaving for the one place you have dreamed of seeing. He was just as excited for you. 

Shower, change clothes, get around and you’re done. You have exactly one hour to get to the airport on time. Roger helped place your luggage in his car along with his. You were giddy and excited, not able to sit still. 

“I can't believe this is actually happening!” you squeal, looking out the window as you all drive. 

He smiles and glances over to you. He hasn’t seen you this happy in a long, long time. It was so nice. 

“Are you nervous?” he asks, looking back to the road. 

“A little,” you confess. “But I’m really happy you’ll be there with me.” 

Roger’s smile drops just a bit as he looks over to you fast. A sweet grin is on your face as you look at him, his heart speeding a bit. He smiles back and looks forward again. 

“Me too.” he says.

“It’s only about an hour flight at least.” says Roger, holding your tickets in his hand. 

You’re officially at the airport and waiting in your gate area. It’s 2:50pm and they were starting to board the flight. You were next in line to have your ticket scanned and off you were. Roger was right behind you as you clutch your purse tight to yourself. You walk through the long hall like structure and spot the opening for the plane. You stop just right outside of it, greeted by three flight attendants that smiled at you sweetly. You close your eyes and take in a deep breath. You open them once more and smile as you take the first step onto the plane. You glance back down at your ticket and search for you seat. It was the second row and a window seat. John really did know you. You slide into your seat and immediately buckle in. Roger sits next to you as you both peered out the window and watch as people outside scurry around to get everything in order. 

“Ready?” he asks. 

You look over to him and grin, nodding your head. You reach your hand over and grab his, lightly squeezing. 

“Take offs always scare me.” you tell him. 

He gently squeezes your hand back as he leans in closer to you. 

“Just close your eyes and squeeze my hand as hard as you can. It’ll be over before you know it.” 

You smile and nod as you lean your head back and close your eyes, still gripping his hand hard. Roger is still leaned forward a bit as he watches you slowly take in a breath and exhale. This was the perfect moment for him to take you in. He stared at you and every feature on your face. He couldn’t look away. He continued to watch you until the plane takes off. It was bumpy at first, causing your eyes to squeeze shut and to squeeze his hand hard. 

“It’s almost over.” he whispered, causing you to relax. 

And just like he said, it was over.

Paris, France. The one place you had dreamed of always visiting and here you were. The plane ride was smooth and perfect, almost soothing. You couldn’t believe you were actually here. You were the first off of the plane, looking around like crazy. Even the airport was beautiful. Roger walked close behind you as you both enter the building. 

“What happens now?” you ask, looking to him. 

“Well, he said he had everything planned. Maybe-” 

Roger stops and looks at something, causing your head to turn around. A man in all black holds up a sign that reads Y/n and Roger. Your brows go up as you hurriedly walked over to him, a light smile appearing on his face when he spots you.

“Hi, I’m y/n.” you tell him. 

“Yes, ma’am. I know exactly who you are. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” he says, holding out his hand to shake yours and Roger’s. “Your husband John had to of been the most genuinely nicest person I ever got to meet. It was a pleasure to know him and to do this for him.” 

You fight back happy tears as he speaks. That was the John you knew as well. You smile and look over to Roger then back to him. 

“Oh, forgive me,” he says as he takes off his dark sunglasses. “I’m Samuel. You may call me Sam if you’d like.” 

“Nice to meet you, Sam.” says Rog. 

“You as well, Mr. Taylor. Shall we go?” he asks. 

“Oh, but our luggage-” you go to say. 

“It’s already all in the car, Mrs. Deacon. Your hotel is the next stop. I’ll be your driver for the next four days here. Anything you need or anywhere you want to go, I’ll be right there.” 

You look to Roger and smile as you slide your arm around his. This was so exciting yet nerve wracking. The three of you make it outside and to a large black SUV. Sam opens the door for you both as you thank him and slide inside. 

“I had instructions to take you to your hotel and then to your dinner reservation at seven.” he tells you as he begins driving. 

“My first ever Paris dinner!” you says excited. 

“Perfect, I’m starving.” teases Roger.

Your hotel was large and beautiful. Breathtaking actually. It was about 15 stories high and the most elegant place you have ever been in. When you reached your room, your eyes were wide. It was humongous and gorgeous. A large chandelier hung in the middle of the room, a king sized bed caught your eye as well. A large glass table by the large TV stand had a bucket with ice and two bottles of champagne. You walk over to it and suddenly spot a piece of paper that’s folded in half. It has your name on the front and your heart flutters. You know it’s from John. 

My Beautiful Wife, 

Enjoy your time here. I know you will. Sam knows the schedule of what I have planned for you. He will tell you everything. For now, relax and get ready for dinner. Also, walk outside on the balcony. I think you’ll enjoy the view.

The view? You look over to the two large doors that lead to a huge balcony. You place the letter down and slowly walked over to them, feeling Roger’s eyes on you. You grab their handles and swing them both open. You take a step outside and peer around, freezing. You gasp and your eyes go wide. Roger rushes over to you and walks behind you, stopping as well. In front of you, the most perfect view, was the Eiffel Tower. It was tall and mesmerizing, just like you knew it would be. A warm, soft breeze brushes against you as you smile widely. You couldn’t look away from it. You had longed to see it for so long now and there it is. 

“John really knew what he was doing.” whispers Rog, his eyes glued to it as well. 

You turn around to Rog and smile. 

“He did.” you whisper back. 

The two of you look at each other for a moment, not breaking away. Something about the way Roger looked at you reminded you of something or possibly someone. You glance down at his lips and then back to his eyes, noticing him do the same. He’s close to you, almost too close. You find yourself moving in even closer, him doing the same. You look away quickly and clear your throat. 

“We should get ready for dinner.” you say fast. 

Roger looks down and nods as you walk around him and back inside. He looks back at the tower for a moment before following. The two of you are silent as you change into a long black dress and fix yourself up. As you're applying lip gloss, something suddenly hits you. You turn around and walk out of the bathroom, your eyes narrowing. Roger’s sat on the bed as he ties his shoes. He looks up to you and notices the look on your face, pausing. 

“What?” he asks fast. 

“We only have one bed.” you say. 

Roger turns and looks behind him, suddenly realizing it as well. 

“Oh…” he says. “I’ll sleep on the floor.” 

“You are not sleeping on the floor. We can make it work.” you say smiling. 

You walk back into the bathroom and for some reason, your heart’s beating fast. How is tonight going to go?

Cuddle Me I’m cold

In which all Harry wants to do is cuddle but (Y/n) is busy

You were starting to reconsider some of your life choices right about now. Like why you chose a job that required you to work 12+ hours on most days or why you had said yes to helping Gemma plan her wedding. I mean sure you were thrilled to help and you absolutely adored Gemma more than anyone but you now understood why people had wedding planners. You had promised that you would help her with getting the decorations all in order but you underestimated how hard it was going to be to get everything organized and ready in the little under two months you had till the wedding. 

You had spent the majority of your time at work trying to figure out how you were going to arrange the centerpieces when you got home. Your lunch break was spent on the phone with the local florist trying to order the hydrangeas for the centerpieces. Harry had texted you saying that four large boxes had arrived at your house this morning. You assumed it was the intricate handblown vases Gemma had picked out. They were beautiful with their delicate blue tones that made it look as if a wave was crashing on the surface. When you got home you would have to fill them with the small blue crystals you had ordered, as well as fairy lights that you prayed, had come today too. You wanted to get it all done today so that you could check at least one thing off Gemma’s list. She had been more and more stressed about the entire event as the big day got closer so you were hoping getting them finished would give her some peace of mind. 

You had just finished up your shift at the hospital and had already changed into the comfiest and warmest clothes you could find so you braved the cold London snow when Gemma called. 

“(Y/n) everything is a mess” Gemma stated in distress.

“Gemma, what’s wrong? What happened?” you asked frantically as you got into your car and turned the heater on.

“My dress came in today and it's too big! They said they weren’t sure if they could fix it and then the bakery called asking if Michael and I were coming in for the cake testing but Michaels on a business trip and that is the only day they had open for it.” She said on the verge of tears. You sighed quietly before putting the call on speaker and pulling out of the parking structure. 

“Gemma, everything is going to be ok. Breathe for me, ok? Relax everything can be fixed. I’m sure the dress shop can do the alteration and if they can’t I can have Harry give Lou a call and see if she knows of anyone that can do them. You could wear a paper bag down the aisle and I’m sure Michael would still drool over you. As for the cake, you know what kind of sweets he likes and I’m sure your mum would love to go with you to try all of the samples. She’s probably more excited than you are for the wedding.” you reminded her as you made a left turn onto your street. 

“Ok, ok you’re right. It’s all going to work out. Thank you for being amazing and helping me with this. I couldn’t do it without you (y/n)”. You smiled at her words as you pulled into your driveway.

“Of course love, however, I do have some good news for you. Harry called and told me the vases are here so I’m going to finish them up hopefully tonight. I also called the florist today and your order of blue, pink and yellow hydrangeas is all set and ready to be delivered the day before the wedding” You mention as you grab your untouched lunchbox from the passenger seat and locked your car.

“Oh my god, I’m so excited! Thank you, thank you! Ok, I’m going to let you go so I can call my mom about the cakes tomorrow. Tell Harry I said hello for me, bye (y/n)” Gemma yelled through the phone as you replied with a quick goodbye before she hung up the phone. 

You chuckled softly as you fumbled to get your key into the door. The smell of homemade tomato sauce greeted you as you closed the front door behind you. Fleetwood Mac played through the house as you made your way to the kitchen to find Harry swaying his hips as he stirred a pot of what you could only assume was pasta. 

“Hey, handsome” you spoke as you placed your lunchbox on the counter and draped your scrubs on one of the island chairs.

Harry quickly turned around before smiling at you and opening his arms. You collapsed into his embrace and placed a chaste kiss on kiss collarbone before turning your attention to the stove top. You carefully dipped your pointer finger into the red sauce and placed it into your mouth. You moaned from the taste as Harry chuckled behind you, wrapping his arms around your waist and placing his chin on top of your shoulder.

“Hungry love? Pasta is just about finished” he whispered as he placed a kiss to your temple.

“Mmm starved but I’m glad you know the way to my heart Styles” you replied back as you dipped your finger in the sauce once more.

“haha I’m glad the carbo load still has its charm” he laughed as he moved away from you to drain the pasta in the sink. 

You took the opportunity to try and discretely put away the salad you hadn’t eat today. You were just about to close the fridge when Harry spoke out. 

“Did you not have lunch today?” he asked, a bit of worry in his voice. Harry has always been worried about you working yourself. He had seen how it affected your mind and body so whenever he was home he tried to pack your food because he knew you wouldn’t do it yourself. 

“I was a bit busy. I had to call the florist for Gemma. The wedding is freaking her out and I rather not add to the stress. She says hello by the way” you mention as you set two plates down on the counter.

“(y/n)...” Harry stated sternly as you gave him a cautious smile. 

“I know, I know, but it was one time. I’m fine, now can we please eat this amazing pasta that my lovely boyfriend made. I hear he’s pretty good at cooking” you stated as you tried to butter him up enough for him to drop the topic. 

“Fine, but only because you look so cute and I’ve been wanting to cuddle with you all day” he mumbled back as he reached for two wine glasses off the shelf as you grabbed your favorite red wine from the fridge.

“Your cuddlings going to have to wait a bit longer. I promised Gemma I would finish the centerpieces for her tonight so she could come pick them up tomorrow” you announced as Harry served you some pasta before serving some for himself. 

“Baby why are you doing this to me” Harry groaned dramatically as he leaned his head onto your shoulder.

“I know bud, it's a tough life but I think you’ll make it through” you countered back as you placed a quick kiss on his cheek and began to dig into your food.

“Fine” he huffed under his breath as he began eating as well. 

The two of you talked quietly about your day while you ate dinner. Every now and then Harry would tug your chair closer to him so he could cuddle your arm as he finished his meal. You laughed at his antics but let him continue to rub his face up and down your neck like a cat. Once you were finished Harry took your dishes to the sink as you went over to the boxes pilled in the corner and began to open them up. By the time Harry was done you had placed all twenty-eight vases on your dining table. 

“Wow how many did Gem need” Harry mumbled as he came up behind you and passed you your wine glass.

“I got two or three extras just in case she invites any last minute guests or one of these breaks,” you reply as you take a sip of your wine and begin to untangle the fairy lights. 

“Look at you being all prepared. Let me help you, maybe we can finish it faster?” he urged as he placed his hands on your hips. 

“Oh no Harry Styles you will not get me this time. Every time you try to so-called “help” it either ends with me taking twice as long or you distracting me and not getting anything done. 

“That’s the goal love” he whispered back as he placed a quick kiss to your lips. You shook your head.

“No, no, out Harry. I need to do this and you're not going to help in any way. Go watch tv or something while I do this for your sister's wedding” you stressed as you pushed him towards the living room.

“But I want to cuddle you” he mumbled as he plopped his body on the couch, nearly spilling his cup of wine on himself. 

“I know but you can cuddle me after” you replied as you made your way back to the vases.

You spent the next fifteen minutes trying to untangle the dread fair lights and making sure each set worked properly. You could hear Harry fiddling with the record player as you continued to work on the vases. Harry put on a Beatles record before sighing loudly. He was trying to coerce you to the couch by playing one of your favorite bands but you weren’t going to fall for it. You had begun to pour the small blue crystals into the vases when Harry came in singing “Hey Jude”. 

“And anytime you feel the pain, hey Jude, refrain Don't carry the world upon your shoulders...” he sang as he made his way towards you again, wrapping his arms around your waist and swaying you back and forth, causing some of the crystals to fall on the floor.

“Harry” you groaned as you placed the bag on the counter a turned around to look at him. He smiled down at you as you scowled. 

“Hey Jude, don't let me down You have found her, now go and get her Remember to let her into your heart Then you can start to make it better..” he continued as he hid his face in your neck and continued to sing as you two swayed back and forth.

“Harry I really need to finish these” you mumble into his chest as he squeezes you just a bit tighter. 

“Shh love. Come cuddle, I can finish them tomorrow. Come cuddle me, been missing you all day.” he grunted as he ran his arms up and down your back. 

“Harry I don’t-”

“Baby, please. I promise I’ll get it done by the time Gemma comes and gets it. You can even leave me instruction, I’ll send you pictures too. Come up and cuddle with me in bed, you must be exhausted” he whispered as he coaxed you by leaving gentle kisses on your temple.

“You promise?” you questioned as you stared into his bright green eyes. A small grin appeared on his face before he leaned down and placed a longing kiss on your plump lips. 

“Of course love now come on let's go up” he replied as he guided you upstairs, turning off the record player on the way up. 

The two of you spent the night cuddling under the sheets, whispering loving words to each other until the two of you fell into a deep sleep.....

Steven Universe Comic #19 (2018) - Outline & Review

The nineteenth installment of the ongoing comic series for Steven Universe covers a flashback to when the Gems and Greg built Steven's house--with the help of Sugilite. The paper issue I bought has the main cover by Missy Peña!

Plot:

Steven, Greg, and the Gems are repairing the house after a storm has done minor damage to the roof. Steven offers them lemonade and finds Pearl giving Amethyst feedback on a crooked roof tile. When Pearl says this brings back memories, the Gems launch into a flashback covering when they all actually built the house together.

Greg helps the Gems acquire the materials needed for the house and is surprised to hear them anticipate finishing the house in one day. They're confident that their abilities, strength, and speed are so superior to humans' that building a house will be a snap. Pearl has a plan and begins instructing the others, but Amethyst is immediately frustrated at the prospect of landscaping the area with shovels. She proposes to Garnet that they should form Sugilite to speed things up. They agree to fuse, despite Pearl's misgivings.

Sugilite initially takes Pearl's direction well, and is able to successfully clear the land with her flail, but when more precision is required, Sugilite gets impatient at Pearl correcting her over and over again. She just wants it to be finished and she doesn't like that Pearl isn't satisfied with her work, even though she's not building anything in a stable way. She begins to feel criticized and personally insulted, ultimately getting angry at Pearl because she feels like her instructions are too picky.

After an outburst regarding her frustration over nothing she does being good enough for Pearl, Sugilite destroys her work and tells Pearl to do it herself. Pearl calls her "impossible" and Sugilite has a moment of self-reflection, leading to Garnet and Amethyst unfusing. While Pearl gives them some space, Garnet and Amethyst are thinking about what they did, and then Greg shows up to see how it's going.

Greg encourages the Gems to reconcile, so Amethyst and Garnet acknowledge that they got carried away with Sugilite and Pearl apologizes for being overly critical. When Pearl is disappointed that they haven't finished the house "on schedule," Greg tells them he was not at all expecting a house in one day, and tells them to relax and have fun with the process--they don't need to hurry on Steven's account! After they agree to work together for Steven, Pearl points out that until the disaster, Sugilite was actually a big help. Garnet and Amethyst agree to be more patient this time, and Sugilite returns . . . with her own apology.

Sugilite and Pearl continue to build the house, and this time, Sugilite is able to calmly handle Pearl's direction. (Mostly.) They get a basic structure built that day, with a porch, stairs, and a house framework, and though they're disappointed that it wasn't finished as fast as they expected, they also acknowledge that it's better to take their time and do it right. In the present, returning from the flashback, they credit Steven for indirectly helping them with their teamwork, even way back then. They complete their storm repairs and still have time to enjoy the sunset.

Notable:

1. Steven bouncing up to the roof without using the ladder is cute. I like how they are casually including references to him incorporating his relatively new floating powers into his everyday life (and how his dad always has a little bit of a reaction to it).

2. Garnet enjoying her lemonade in a bizarre way is an early highlight. Especially since it's so accurate to how she sometimes does completely inappropriate things and then does not behave as if she realizes anyone might find it weird.

3. Seeing the Gems in their old outfits is fun! Pearl and Garnet are in the familiar costumes we saw at the beginning of Season 1, and Amethyst's is slightly different (with a long-sleeved top), which we've seen in the extended opening footage and flashbacks like "Three Gems and a Baby." (We still don't know as of this writing how Amethyst perished and reformed between that time and the beginning of Season 1.)

4. Garnet and Amethyst high-fiving over good ideas is such a cute image.

5. I believe Sugilite's costume as drawn in this comic is identical to her costume in her first appearance in the episode "Coach Steven." As Amethyst's outfit is slightly different at the time they're forming her in this comic, Sugilite's costume would usually reflect that, but I don't see any indication that Amethyst's long-sleeved shirt has affected Sugilite's design.

6. It's really refreshing to see Amethyst taking responsibility for Sugilite's devastation and having Garnet chime right in to say it's her fault too. Amethyst is almost always seen as the root of Sugilite's impatience and the source of her personality flaws, but Garnet is just as responsible for Sugilite and it's wonderful to see her not allowing Amethyst to eat the blame by herself.

7. Young Steven in the flashback having a cute moment where he expresses enthusiasm for the Gems' house-building efforts with one of his patented leg hugs is too precious for words.

8. I like the writing choice here to have Garnet and Amethyst apologize for what they did wrong as Sugilite but then also have Sugilite apologize separately. (And of course I like that Pearl accepted her role in making Sugilite angry and thought about how she could modify her interaction as well.) It was really nice to see them return to Sugilite as a solution; she's been portrayed as an out-of-control Fusion in the show, to the point that she's been dangerous, so I was super glad that instead of concluding once again that Sugilite's destructive tendencies outweigh her usefulness, they decided to try again with what they'd learned. (And it's also nice to see that Sugilite does continue to react poorly to criticism as the building continues, but doesn't completely lose her cool despite her grumbles.)

9. The house-building sequences showing the framework for the house look really cool. I'm no expert on foundations for buildings but it looks like some research went into it to get it to look good.

10. Sugilite using a tiny hammer is a funny image.

11. Garnet keeps touching her glasses when she talks casually about what she thinks will happen in the future, like when they discuss if Steven will like the house and she replies "I'm sure he will." It's cute that they remind you that Garnet isn't just guessing when she comments on the future.

Doctor Who - Earthshock Live Review

So I have my crisps and lemonade and im ready to continue my journey through classic who - idk why I just started live blogging it...

• I'll never get tired of the debate about emotions between them because it genuinely feels like the Cyberman defend the concept of having no emotions to defend their existence

• The credits!! his gold star! the silence! this must have been a shock to the viewers. If i didn't know beforehand through spoilers I would be going crazy

• Earthshock had it's ups and downs, the downs in regards to the pace of the plot however the story was good and the Cybermen were fantastic especially their interactions against the doctor. Tegan and Adric were great. Nyssa didn't really have much to do. Davison was amazing. I liked the writing.

• Also I liked the structural shift of the story to the cave androids to the bomb to the spaceship to dealing with The Cybermen to saving Earth and then to Adrics death

sakura isn’t one to showcase an upside-down smile, practically a frown on her bright features. she’s a ray of energy, an energy pill if you might even call her but she still has her limitations just like everyone else. she’s only human in spite of her charisma on stage, she still finds it hard to believe that as the episodes go by, so do her friends say goodbye. she’s never one to take it too well. moving around different parts of australia throughout her lifetime, every time she made friends, she’d cling but eventually parted ways, causing a great rift from her friendships. she’s the kind of person to store friendships in her heart deeply, always willing to go out of her way for her friends. she’d consider them a second family when her parents were out of the country, friends are her source of happiness!

she’s met faces where she forgotten in time too. sakura knew friends that she couldn’t remember by name but recognises them by their faces, it was at a time she went to summer adventure camp as a six year old in kyushu. this feels similar to that time, she’s growing at a certain distance from the ones she loves. she should’ve said hi or a good morning to her best friends, asking her other friends how they are doing as well! but she’s got her time busy filled with volunteer work from the aquarium, practising and being in and out of the studio for recordings or dance rehearsals, and university.

it feels like everything’s overwhelming, got a whole lot on her plate and almost as if she was carrying the whole world on her shoulders, juggling it. she had to balance everything out to the point she’d follow a schedule to keep herself grounded. that’s a great and healthy technique to go on about her days other than her body adjusting to auto-pilot mode for a lot of her personal moments. noted that sakura did her best to do her work while remaining sane throughout it. she liked her free time too much, especially freedom!

sadness flows through her as she nights pass by realising that she can’t share the same spotlight with any of her best friends. that meant no kikwang or tzuyu, plus she hasn’t even hit them up. she knows lacking but she’s afraid to say a word to her friends after the loss. she felt it too but she tried not to dwell on it too hard as she needed to smile on her performances, people were taking pictures and the cameras are all over the place. plus the big five ceo/judges had their eyes locked on the australian gal.

though, there’s faces she doesn’t want off the show that can be on the risk… it feels that anyone can be eliminated for various reasons. sakura didn’t expect herself to make it this far but she’s grateful for the experiences that are letting her experiment with the best of her abilities and themes that compliment her flair for rapping and music. she can only wish for the best when it comes to the others! she has to give in the other half her partner is dedicated to this project, she can’t be unjust and fair to her duo.

kenta feels refreshing and nostalgic, she’s reminded of how and communicating in japanese without hesitation. she gets along with him perfectly, vibing with his energy effortlessly. the aren’t feisty but rather friendly to one another! she’s been aware of his presence, long before this took place to where they’re led on the chapter of the mnet global audition season five.  he’s definitely a better dancer than her, without a doubt. so she finds solace in his advice when she learns through the moves over and over again until she moves through the choreography fluidly. it didn’t take much for sakura to memorise the instructions though. she’s able to dance but not on a level where she can run up on the stage freestyling to a strong rhythm! she’s on the flexible side than showing off sharp moves.

she touches up on her spanish from years ago, going through her favourite spanish playlist to help pick her pronunciation so that she doesn’t sound like she’s completely new to the language and its structures. she took the language repeatedly, moving up to levels on where she was able to hold a conversation in latin america and spain throughout her travels with her parents. sometimes, she’d rather sing in spanish rather than english but she didn’t get on the levels to be fluent. perhaps next semester she will if there’s extra time for her to fit in with her classes and the labs. she’s got the lyrics down after a couple of hours of singing through it, she needs to practise her pitch to hold a tune.

sakura’s vocals aren’t horrid, she’s able to stay on-key and present her soft, relaxing tone to her voice. she didn’t rely on herself to hit the high notes when it came to the ad libs, she worked around the song to stay within her range when in the recording. the sound is sweet and easy on the ears, meshing with the song quite well actually. there’s a part where she gets to a korean rap which requires her to flip the switch again to another language! she speaks korean on the daily so it isn’t hard to find the unique flow in her rap.

sharing tips with her duo partner is also essential, she’s giving him some pointers on facial expression when it comes to dancing. an aspect that judges make sure that they judge and notice when performers are on the stage. she’s been told that much from trainees that she knows of.

piecing the dance and live singing wasn’t exactly hard, the movements are simple. she needed to find the perfect outfit to go with the theme of the song, she decides to go with a flowy red dress with ruffles that was cool enough for her to dance in freely. gradually, being on the spotlight makes it a little hotter temperature-wise in terms of body heat. she’s going to perform in an area of luminescent so it’s best to stay in thin layers. she hasn’t worn heels when performing in so long but she picked up a cute pair of red dress shoes that looked like they were comfortable, tapping all around here and there when dancing. this outfit should work wonders with impressions! red is a nice, sultry colour that compliments her.

she sits down patiently until it was her turn to be called up.

she’s one of the first few to come up with her partner, kenta. she takes a bow greeting the other contestants who are watching, as well as the judges with a big cordial curve on her lips. waving a hand before the music starts, she lets the broadcast be known what she and kenta are as a duo! “we’re the global couple duo! and this is our performance for today. i hope you guys enjoy it!” she looks over at kenta, greeting him with a small smile too. he looked so fancy in this attire, a great choice for this theme that went with her red dress.

the pre-recording of her voice starts off, it’s a soft sound to the elements. she takes the lead up front, sliding to the side and letting kenta sing through the first lines. she makes sure to follow through the choreography naturally, showing a smile at all times as she’s enjoying the upbeat vibes from the song. the instrumentals’ a  good choice, it’s not the typical kpop sound but that’s what she was aiming for. to try out different themes to which she liked, she intends to be a versatile artist. she’s known to be a rapper but can also hold the title to being at least, if not, an average vocalist.

she moves her hips to the sound of the beat, staying on par with the rhythm of the song, getting ready to sing through the spanish lyrics. leslie grace has a pretty elegant-sounding voice with a light tone to it, so it’s not hard to sing-along to but sakura prefers to sing in her own tone to not sound like a copycat, trying to imitate the artist. sakura’s never been on this level where she has to dance in heels, holding a microphone and singing at the same time. maybe even rapping as it’s coming up. she’s crouching as she sings then picks herself back up on the floor once that part is over with.

grace is an essence she has to retain throughout the entirety of this performance, sakura’s picked up the tweaked up choreography that kenta improved to make her movements lean on the feminine side. she faces him in certain moments, with a deep look to her eye––emotions are deep, making the stage more entertaining. delivering a good and energetic performance, one that many will enjoy is her goal! she picks herself up elegantly through the dancing, delivering a torrid image than her typical signature cute expressions.

once the rap comes up, sakura uses a stronger tone to her accent to adjust to the risque theme but not explicit to the point it would sound suggestable and not suitable for work. she still retains a lighthearted feeling to her rapping, but sakura has the charisma to get her through this and she can work through the rap without breaking a sweat. it’s what she’s best at, delivering a good verse with eccentric energy! she moves through the twirls swiftly, with a grin on her features as she dances!

How to Homeschool When Mom Is Sick

Homeschooling can sometimes be challenging! And when you’re sick, it can be especially hard! But there are ways to continue homeschooling even when you aren’t feeling your best. This article shares some suggestions for how to homeschool when Mom is sick.

Why would you want to homeschool on sick days?

But before I go into how to homeschool on sick days, you may be wondering why you would want to continue homeschooling on days when you don’t feel well. There are some good reasons!

It’s easier to make it through those sick days if the kids are occupied and on a routine. Kids who are bored tend to make more messes, fight more, and be generally harder to deal with. When my kids were younger, I tried my best to continue homeschooling even on days I didn’t feel very well just because it was actually easier for me than taking the day off!

Also, if you live in a state that requires you to complete a certain number of school days each year, you may not be able to take all of your sick days off. So many of us tend to get sick in the early months of the new year when it’s cold and we have to spend a lot of time indoors (where germs multiply and get shared with others!). Depending on how many school days you completed earlier in the school year, you may need to continue with school in order to complete your required school days without being stressed out later!

How can you homeschool when you are sick?

Language Arts:

If you don’t have a sore throat, reading is a great way to spend some snuggle time with your kiddos! If your throat is sore and is making reading difficult, have your children read to you! Even young children can “read” picture books to you while you rest. And young children will probably love the idea of helping you feel better by reading to you!

This is also a good time to have your children work on penmanship. (It will help if you have some penmanship practice ready ahead of time so you don’t have to try to prepare lessons when you’re not feeling well. I used to keep extra work on hand in a special file for occasions like this.) Have them write jokes or funny poems in their best handwriting. And even if you don’t feel like checking/correcting their handwriting that day, you can always make note of things they need to work on later.

They might enjoy writing short stories to read to you and make you laugh. Again, just enjoy letting them write stories and read them to you while you’re sick. Then when you feel better, you can go back over sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, or whatever else you see that needs improvement.

For spelling practice, you might want to allow your children to play games instead of doing more traditional spelling work. If you feel like playing, you could join in the game too. If not, you can rest while your children play.

Boggle Jr. is a fun game for teaching letter and word recognition and for matching and spelling.

Math:

Math is another subject in which online games, board games, and workbooks can be good practice on days you’re too sick to teach.

Times Tales is a fun way to work on math fact memorization–especially if you have children who enjoy hearing stories and might remember their math facts better if they’re associated with stories.

There are lots of fun math workbooks available! I suggest ordering several and bringing them out on sick days.

Sums in Space is a super cute board game that gets great reviews! It teaches addition and subtraction and is good for kids ages 5 and up.

Zingo is a number bingo game for kids ages 4 and up. It also gets great reviews.

If you’d like your kiddos to get some extra practice counting and exchanging money, then Money Bags might be the game you need! It is for children ages 7 and up.

Or if your children need to practice their time telling skills, this Time Telling Bingo game is a fun way to do that!

Science:

There are lots of great ways to handle science when you’re too sick to teach!

Nextflix has lots of choices for educational science-related documentaries that your children can watch while you rest. Just do a search on instantwatcher.com to find a show to go with whatever topics you’re currently teaching them. Or you can use Google to find the names of some educational shows or documentaries, and then check to see if Netflix or Amazon Prime (or whatever service you use) has those shows.

I like to keep several large DK Publishing books on hand for my children to explore when I need them to do some independent science study. These books are fun, colorful, and will hopefully help keep your kiddos busy for a while–whether they’re littles, middles, or teens. You can find some great ones here! (And here are even more!)

History:

I love studying history with my children! When I’m sick, though, and they need to do their history studies without me, there are several ways they can do it.

One thing they can do is read historical fiction books! If you have kiddos who love to read, this is an excellent option! In fact, you may find that they want to do history all day and skip the other subjects. I personally don’t have a problem with that as long as they’re doing something constructive, and reading historical fiction can truly be a great way to study history and make it interesting and easy to understand.

If you’re going to have your children read historical fiction, check online (or have older students check for themselves) to find public domain (free) historical fiction books. Here is an article that tells how to find public domain books. Many local libraries now have ebooks available too, so take advantage of it if yours does!

And again, you can always let them watch relevant programs on Netflix or one of the other services. Just be double sure to keep an eye on their choices or have some picked out ahead of time. You don’t want them to end up watching something that’s too mature for them!

And once again, DK Publishing has some really good history books available!

If you have DVDs at your house that relate to history, you can even watch those!

One more suggestion is, if your children are working on a timeline, let them spend some extra time working on it. They probably already know what to do and how to do it!

Online Options:

We all know we have to be very careful when we allow our children to spend time online. If you’re sick, though, and have to stay in bed (or on the couch) and can’t do much, you may be able to allow your children some time online while you sit and simply watch educational shows with them or watch while they play educational games. This way, you can still get some rest, but they can still do something educational with your supervision. 

If your children are very young (ages 2 to 6), you may want to consider downloading the Khan Academy Kids app. You can find more information about it here. Khan Academy Kids helps kids enjoy learning by having fun characters guide children through activities and stories. Children can then experience books, activities, animated videos, and creative lessons! And, as they earn rewards, they’ll collect accessories such a bugs, hats, and toys for their favorite in-app characters.

Another option is the Khan Academy website. There you’ll find practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard. You can set up a parent account first, and then your child can get started discovering new information or practicing whatever he/she is already learning. There are lessons and information on topics related to math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. And best of all, it’s free!

Your children may enjoy watching some Ted-Ed videos! Ted-Ed is “an extension of TED’s mission of spreading great ideas.” This site has educational videos on all sorts of topics! Many of the videos were created by educators with the help of animators who were nominated through the Ted-Ed website. I scanned the site to see what it currently has to offer, and I saw animated videos about topics such as: how roller coasters affect your body, a day in the life of an ancient Egyptian doctor, and even history through the eyes of a chicken! There are lots and lots of great topics–both serious and funny–on this site! You should absolutely take a look. (You might just start looking forward to sick days!)

Another site that provides educational value is PBS Kids. This site “uses the full spectrum of media and technology to build knowledge, critical thinking, imagination, and curiosity.” According to information on the site, PBS Kids seeks to involve parents, teachers, caregivers, and communities as learning partners to help children find success in school and in life. I have young nieces and nephews who really enjoy the educational games and activities on this site!

The most important thing to keep in mind when you’re sick is that it’s ok to relax and take it a little easier than usual! But that doesn’t mean you have to lie in bed being stressed because your children are bored or aren’t doing anything educational. Just choose a few of these tips and ideas, and your children’s education can continue even when you’re too sick to do the teaching!

Day 21--September 20 First thing in the morning our host asked us, in her breathy Italian accent, if we wanted coffee and, of course, we said yes please. Though we still aren't used to a coffee really meaning and espresso. I needed about 4 more but it sure was tasty! Then we decided to follow our hosts vague instructions and find the supermarket "at the end of the street." We wanted to go last night but it closes at 8 and she asked if in the US they are open later since often Americans try to go grocery shopping at night. Anyway, we looked all over each end of the street and spent a good 30 minutes looking for this elusive store. We settled on getting some pastries but has to endure one of the most awkward encounters in order to receive them. The woman was just very clearly annoyed that we didn't speak Italian and she cut us off before we were done picking out cookies haha " you fat Americans this is enough". But it was okay because they really ended up being kinda awful. Again, looks are deceiving. So we gave up and headed to the coliseum. On the way there was a guy with birds that tried to get us to stop but we kept walking and then he proceeded to follow taylor and put a bird on her shoulder while she was walking so we stopped and took pictures. When we were done he asked for money but we didn't have any and we also didn't even stop for him, he put his bird on a moving human hah but the pictures are great and it was a cool random experience! Then we arrived at the collision. Ah, yet another tourist infestation and the thieves and merchants are everywhere. We held our stuff tight and got inside fast. The whole building is awesome and the history of it is gruesome but incredible. We had some great views but I also got my feet stepped on and pushed too many times to count. Taylor and I started talking about how many people we think are genuinely touched by what they're seeing and how many are just doing it because it's the thing you do in Rome, or to get a picture for Instagram. Even we are guilty of not knowing much of the history behind it. Most people were too worried about taking selfies and or having someone take 1937372 pictures of them from every angle. For what? It's a fine balance between taking pictures to remember the moment but also living the moment while it's happening. Then we had a talk about how we've learned a lot about ourselves on this trip. And what we learned is actually similar. We are just so deeply nature people. These human achievements and monuments and iconic places we've seen have been so incredible and we wouldn't change it for the world, but it's a different kind of connection than standing in a forest or taking in the Grand Canyon. The soul connection isn't quite the same, the emotion that carries with me isn't as mind altering. That's why Slovenia has been my favorite, because the nature was awe inspiring and humbling. The way Mother Nature can create those things in the absence of any/all human involvement is just the most wonderful thing. This has been a self discovery journey and the biggest step outside of my comfort zone yet. We both decided that to call it a vacation would be false because we hadn't done much relaxing--it's been an adventure, a journey, and one hell of one at that. The people are exhausting too, just the mobs of humans pushing through spaces and the frantic energy is, of course, worthwhile to see what we've seen, but it grates on us. It's the opposite experience in nature and that solitude can be magnificent. I'm glad we're both on the same page though. This trip has been so so expanding and I can't even process all that we experienced. We've seen places that many don't get to, we experienced such different ways of life, and we learned what kind of travel to focus on from here on out to warm our souls as much as possible. Anyway then we started heading towards a piazza area but Taylor was getting dangerously hangry so we started looking for food. We ended up at this burger joint and had some of the best food ever. I know it seems criminal to eat burgers in Rome but omg we've had pasta and pizza for 3 week straight. Then we went back home to change outfits for the Ice Club which is an entire club made of ice--the walls, chairs, cups, decorations, everything, and it's -5 degrees Celsius. So we got warmer clothes on, though they do provide a blanket/poncho, and headed to the bar! We took a different route and actually ended up overlooking the roman forum around sunset and it was glowing and magical. The bar was father than we thought but the atmosphere even in the welcome area was very intriguing. We got out coats and headed in and wow, very cold. With our entry we got a drink and the bar tender was the most animated Irish lad I've ever met (not that I've met many but, ya know). We both had really yummy cocktails and drank them while he theatrically told jokes. He introduced us as California to two girls he called Melbourne. With us from America, them from Australia, and him from Europe, we were basically the UN. We actually made friends with the Australian girls. They were super nice and friendly and we were all glad each other spoke English. We were just about frozen so we decided to follow them to a gay bar they found down the way. It was a15 minute walk, away from our Airbnb, but it was fun and adventurous. Their other friend was too drunk, but apparently he didn't drink much, and they were basically babysitting him. We ended up at a diner because the bar was closed due to flooding and we all chatted for an hour or so about health care differences, taxes, prices of living, school measurement terms, and travel. * their ticket to get to Europe was more than twice what ours cost and it takes 30 hours * They have universal health care. Like her brother was airlifted and take by helicopter for 2 hours and then had surgeries and was in the hospital for 2 months and they never had to pay a cent (well other than their taxes) * Their taxes don't seem extreme at all. She said she took home $31k and had $8k in taxes which, taylor and I did the math, seems to be similar to or even less than the US? But maybe it's a progressive tax structure and it increases with how much you make. * They pay $8k per year to attend the second best university in the country. And they don't have to start paying back student loans until they are making a certain amount of money that ensures their ability to do so. Compared to the US where you get your first bill for student loans just a few months after graduating. * We all got a huge kick out of trying to convert measurements and failing and all being confused as to why the US can't get on the same page * They have all these cute words like they sunglasses are sunnies, bathing suits are bathers, and milliliters are mills like "it's 300 mills". But the best one was when jade asked what we call the boxes that are cold outside for a party to keep drinks in. I said, ice chest? And they all cringed saying it was just an ugly word haha they call it an eskee. Like an Eskimo 😂 hahaha so precious I love it. Then we parted with them and made the mile or so walk back home, yikes my body was tired. The city takes on a different energy at night. It as quiet and the lights illuminating the monuments made them look entirely new. We laughed and danced and made slight fools of ourselves, perhaps being loud Americans for a few minutes, but we had fun. Again, I wondered how many miles we've walked on this trip.
