i was curious what about miguel characterizations you've read in fics that are vastly different from yours? i've read a lot of fics myself and i feel like characterizations differ so widely so i'd be interested to know what kind of takes or interpretations you disagree with (also because i feel like our takes on him are similar).
you don't have to answer this if you don't want to (especially since it might just come off as gatekeeping or policing other people's characterizations and i know you don't want to do that) but it was something i was wondering since i appreciate your perspective. if you're not comfortable answering, feel free to ignore this and have a good day :)
mmmm its not so much Vastly different as it is there aspects to him i read in a particular kind of way and i think im just picky about wanting to read fics that have those elements in the same way i interpret them fkjshfjkds
i think probably the biggest one would be his anger? a lot of fics seem to portray miguel as having an innately hairline trigger temper, where what we see in the film is specifically him having a mental breakdown in the aftermath of a severely traumatic event and several short and long term stressors coming all at once? he's got a particular kind of relationship to anger given his comics-past yes, but i think even without that knowledge, assuming where he's at in the film is his inherent baseline kind of ignores how absolutely shocked everyone is when he snaps?
where he is during the film is evidently Not his normal, is what i mean.
and when this extends into fics characterising him as someone who gets physically retalitory in a non battle situation (i.e pushing characters away from him etc.) it feels ooc to me?
like, w peter as an exampe, you can see there's a clearly established kind of intimacy to their interactions. miguel accepts being touched affectionately and teased. you really get a sense that those two know what their boundaries are together and that they wouldn't be acting the way they do if they didn't know the other person was chill w it.
miguel is something of an asshole yeah. he's not a charmer; he can be abrasive and his sarcasm trends on the biting side, but he's also a character fundementally motivated by the desire to protect other people. that's core to his character, and it informs the entirety of how he reacts to pretty much Everything and by what principles he operates by.
and thank you for the compliement as well :D if you have any fic recs i'd be really happy to read them!
#i also disagree w the perspective that miguel just needed enough Emotional Evocation to change his pov in the film#his emotions WILL supercede his head absolutely but in that moment hes laser focused on the goal and shouldering guilt is something that#hes specifically geared himself up for. u gotta show him hes not going to accidentally kill people again#and none of this is even touching some of the uh. questionable choices. people make when creating not sfw content of him#long post#ask games#anon#miguel is very much to me that 'not nice but IS kind' trope
