Clara Bow~
"You look like Clara Bow
In this light, remarkable
All your life, did you know
You'd be picked like a rose?"
"I'm not trying to exaggerate
But I think I might die if it happened
Die if it happened to me
No one in my small town
Thought I'd see the lights of Manhattan"
"This town is fake, but you're the real thing
Breath of fresh air through smoke rings
Take the glory, give everything
Promise to be dazzling"
"You look like Stevie Nicks
In '75, the hair and lips
Crowd goes wild at her fingertips
Half moonshine, a full eclipse"
"I'm not trying to exaggerate
But I think I might die if I made it
Die if I made it
No one in my small town
Thought I'd meet these suits in L.A.
They all wanna say"
"This town is fake, but you're the real thing
Breath of fresh air through smoke rings
Take the glory, give everything
Promise to be dazzling"
"The crown is stained, but you're the real queen
Flesh and blood amongst war machines
You're the new God we're worshipping
Promise to be dazzling"
Beauty is a beast that roars
Down on all fours
Demanding, "More"
Only when your girlish glow
Flickers just so
Do they let you know?
It's hell on earth to be heavenly
Them's the breaks, they don't come gently
"You look like Taylor Swift
In this light, we're loving it
You've got edge she never did
The future's bright, dazzling"

1. What is one thing you will never do again? Watch The Hours. Film itself is great, but is way too triggering.
2. Would you rather be twice as smart or twice as happy? Iâd take happiness easily. Itâs not bad for the most part to make mistakes and Iâd rather be too clumsy than be altogether miserable.
3. What happened the last time you cried? It was the day of what wouldâve been our anniversary and at that moment I was alone in my car at a parking lot (waiting for the office to open) on a gloomy day. I just had to cry and let my feelings out for like 5 minutes to accept everything but I was immediately fine afterwards, haha. Grief can be funny.
4. What happened the time in your life when you were the most nervous to do something? My first job interview. It was my first adult thing ever. They never got back to me - very professional of them - but I was still grateful for the experience nonetheless.
5. What would your parents be surprised to learn about you? That I was in a whole ass relationship for technically 6 1/2 years. They probably have an inkling by now, but only about me being in a relationship. Iâm sure they would be very surprised if they ever found out how long it had actually gone for.
6. Whatâs your worst habit? I pick at my toenails when Iâm nervous or stressed. I tend to do this when Iâm doing a work task that I particularly dread, and sometimes Iâll end up being fixated on the habit for like 10 minutes straight and not get anything done.
7. What superpower would you have for one day? Time travel, just to take quick trips to multiple decades and see how life was like during those times.
8. What fictional character do you have the biggest crush on? Matty from 13 Going on 30 would be one of them. Albert Finneyâs character in Two for the Road is also charming as fuck.
9. Where would you live if you could live anywhere in the world? If money wasnât an issue, probably somewhere cozy in like Switzerland or Canada.
10. What is your most bizarre pet peeve? Not necessarily a pet peeve but I get extremely uncomfortable when someone hands me a gift then they insult the gift while in front of me, saying itâs not a great gift or that I probably donât need it, etc. Filipinos also have this habit of saying something along the lines of, âYou earn way more than me so youâd probably think this gift sucksâ like how do you want me to react :(((((( I love receiving gifts and the idea of being thought about already means a lot to me, so it just makes me wince a little bit when I hear statements like the above.
11. Who knows you the best? Gabie, probably. Iâve changed a lot since then, though.
12. What after school activities did you do in high school? Clubs were mandatory extracurricular activities in my high school; in my time, I joined the table tennis and yearbook clubs.
13. What âmost likely toâ superlative would you be most honored to receive? Idk, we didnât have those in school. I probably would have been honored to get a journalism-themed one though; something like Most Likely To Write for NYT or Most Likely to Win a Pulitzer or something like that. Obviously thatâs changed now and Iâve long let go of journalism as a passion.
14. Whatâs the last book you really loved? I havenât read in a long, long while.
15. What was the greatest television show of all time? I donât watch a lot of TV so Iâm not the most credible decision-making body for this lol, but out of all the shows Iâve watched the best one would easily be Breaking Bad.
16. Whatâs been your favorite age so far? 16. Life was insanely easygoing back then and everything fell into place for me at the time.
17. If you could go back in time, what is one piece of advice you would give your younger self? Know when itâs enough. Be kind to yourself.
18. What one thing would you be most disappointed if you never got to experience it? Have kids.
19. Apologize or ask permission? I donât understand the relationship between the two.
20. Unlimited love or money? I would love to never have to worry about finances ever again.
21. If you knew you would die in one week, what would you do? Take a week-long leave for work, spend all my money, bond with my dogs, throw a party for my closest friends, and honestly, make my peace with her.
22. Whatâs your most listened to song? Spotify doesnât show that feature, but I bet itâs from Paramore or Hayley anyway. It would be impossible to know my most-listened to song of all time, like if we took into account my Spotify, iTunes, etc.
23. Beach vacation or European vacation? I need a beach vacation badly, but a European vacation would be a new and different experience. Iâd take the latter.
24. If you could have been a child prodigy what would you have wanted to be skilled at? Playing the piano.
25. Whatâs the first thing you would do if you won the lottery? Depends on how much I won lmao. Iâd probably retire this early if the money was big enough since Iâm pretty stingy anyway. But generally, I would like to pay off whatever bills my parents are currently paying for, get back the car that we had to sell because of the pandemic, and maybe go for a solo vacation or five heheh.
26. What celebrity would you trade lives with? Kylie Jenner, for a day. Just so I can briefly have a taste of how being that rich is like.
27. If you were a performing artist, what would you title your first album? Nope.
28. What story do your friends still give you crap about? Staying with Gab despite the red flags that glared for four whole years is one of them. Angela will also never let go of that one time I tried some kind of fruit juice in high school and I described it as âpacks a punch.â Itâs understood as a super Westernized idiom where I live and literally no one uses it in a casual sentence, so it was a hit with her and now we use âpacks a punchâ whenever we want to describe something awesome or surprising.
29. If earth could only have one condiment for the rest of time, what would you pick to keep around? Mayonnaise and I will die on this mayonnaise-coated hill.
30. What is the ideal number of people to have over on a Friday night? Ideally? At this point? Like 20. I would love for that to be the case on the first Friday we can consider the Philippines COVID-free.
31. What was the worst age youâve been so far? Sorry for yet another incoming Paramore reference but they literally have a lyric that goes, â22 is like, the worst idea that I have ever had. Before turning 22 I used to think it was a weird line, like how could 22 possibly be unenjoyable? Now Iâm 22 in a pandemic going through a rough breakup and I canât even see my friends nor work in my first workplace ever.
32. What is your weirdest dealbreaker? If they wanted only cats as pets. I can deal with a dog and a cat, I guess; but cats were never fond of me so I feel like Iâd struggle with this situation lol.
33. What fictional character reminds you most of yourself? Mr. Peanutbutterrrrrrr. Has a lot of love to give, doesnât always use it on the right people. Also lives on pleasing others.
34. Do you believe in karma? Just to a tiny extent, in how I would want peopleâs awful actions to come bite them in the ass one day. Itâs not a philosophy that controls my life and the things I do whatsoever.
35. What was your favorite TV show as a kid? My absolute favorite was Hi-5, with the original cast. As I got older my interests shifted to Spongebob and The Fairly OddParents.
36. What is the weirdest thing you find attractive in a person? I donât think itâs weird, but I donât hear thighs too often when people list down their favorite physical traits. Itâs certainly one of mine.
37. What Jeopardy! category would you clear, no problem? A Friends-themed one, obviously. This reminds me of the Jeopardy night I had with some friends a few nights ago! That was so much fun, and Andi makes really great and fun questions hahaha.
38. What is something youâre superstitious about? I donât think I am about anything.
39. What is the scariest experience you have ever had? Maybe that night my grandpa went into a drunk rampage. I was 9, right in his line of sight, frozen and scared shitless, and I didnât know who he was going to strike next.
40. Who is a non-politician you wish would run for office? I never really think about this. If someoneâs a non-politician then there must be a reason they arenât, lol.
41. What cheesey song do you have memorized? Little Things by One Direction is very cheesy and itâs one of my least favorite songs of theirs, but I still have it memorized out of habit.
42. What one dead person would you most like to have dinner with, if it were possible? My great-grandpa died all the way back in the 70s, even before some of my aunts and uncles could meet him. It would be cool to spend time with him.
43. Do you think itâs important to stay up to date with the news? Yeah, absolutely. I have the stomach for it lol, so I always monitor whatâs happening locally and globally. Skipping the news from time to time is fine because I get how anxiety-inducing and depressing some events can be, but thereâs a huge difference between ignoring the news for your mental health and being indifferent altogether. Iâd immediately judge anyone whoâs the latter, and would assume you are incredibly privileged.
44. What is the best present you could ever receive? My money refunded -____________- I had food delivered to my director, Beaâs house as a surprise earlier today, but apparently I ran into a scammer driver and the fucker drove away with the meal I had bought for Bea. I reported the driver and the situation, and thankfully the customer service rep of the food delivery app quickly responded and said theyâd return the full amount I paid for; but I still havenât received it.
45. Would you give up one of your fingers if it meant youâd have free wifi wherever you go, for the rest of your life? No. Mobile data exists for a reason.
46. Whatâs the first thing youâd do if you were the opposite sex for one day? Check out my voice.
47. If someone told you you could give one person a present and your budget was unlimitedâwhat present would you get and for whom? Iâd love to surprise Angela with an overseas trip that would last for like a month. Traveling is one thing we have yet to do as best friends.
48. What is the nicest thing someone could say about you? Nothing particular, but it makes me happy when people call me strong and when they validate the shit Iâve gone through over the years.
49. Giant house in a subdivision or tiny house somewhere with a view? I would take the giant house. When it comes to my own place, I would want to have a lot of space to roam around.
50. What is the weirdest quirk your family has? Nothing is coming to mind.

Ariana Grandeâs thank u, next is a formidable display of self
In many ways, thank u, next feels like a sequel to its predecessor, but where Sweetener was a study in optimism and musical daring, thank u, next is a formidable display of self, centering on Ariana Grande the personality and the artist, marked by not only her contradictions but also her musical sensibilities. One is left with an admiration for her self-assuredness amidst such harrowing times.
â
â
â
â
â
â
â
â
â
â - a Reeseâs Pick
The universe has a cruel way of functioning: five and a half months ago, Ariana Grande was coasting on the highs of the release of her fourth record, Sweetener, and her whirlwind engagement with comedian Pete Davidson, following her exit from a âtoxicâ relationship with Mac Miller. Sweetener itself, which contains 2018âs best song, was a masterful display of relentless optimism and musical daring, featuring a smile that never slips and some of Grandeâs career-best work (with help from Pharrell, who was perhaps cleaning out his hard drive).
In the next two months, that would all change: Miller would die of substance abuse in September, and Grande and Davidson would dissolve their engagement the following month. Both men are haunting presences on thank u, next, Grandeâs new album, whose title track, an ultimate ode to self-love, has already been considered mythic. In many ways, thank u, next feels like a sequel to its predecessor, but where Sweetener was relentlessly optimistic in its subject matter and remarkably audacious in its production, thank u, next is a formidable display of self in both senses. The record puts her front and center: a woman of human contradictions and precocious musical sensibilities, buttressed by fellow musical talents with a knack for capturing the times.
Not only is thank u, next an account of the next chapter of Grandeâs life, but it also feels like a logical next step musically: after having help exploring the various facets of her voice (and, by extension, herself), she â still a relative novelty among her competition â is making her own Ariana Grande record, bearing a writing credit on every one of the recordâs 12 tracks, on which she is also credited as an executive and vocal producer. It is her personality that the record orbits around, which somewhat accounts for the staggering thematic and tonal differences between some adjacent tracks: she confesses to constantly wanting companionship (âneedyâ) but later asks her beau for some space (âNASAâ); she verges on manipulative on one track (âmake upâ) but earnestly apologizes on the next (âghostinâ); the vulnerable tone of the title track stands in stark contrast to the flippancy of âbreak up with your girlfriend, i'm boredâ. These conflicting traits arenât particularly endearing, but their appearance on the album humanizes the woman behind them, peeling back the curtain a bit, if only briefly.
In Grandeâs company are some of her closest friends and most longtime collaborators, namely songwriters Victoria MonĂŠt and Tayla Parx, producer Tommy Brown, and Max Martin et al., who turn Grandeâs ideas into clever turns of phrase and accompany them with up-to-date melodies. Standing next to Pharrell creations on Sweetener, the Max Martin half of that record always felt sort of inferior, never as risky or as smart as its counterpart, and while his tracks on thank u, next arenât much different, the slick productions on highlights âbloodlineâ (brass section!) and âbad ideaâ (that outro!) are a reminder that we may yet see the end of Martin. Brown and MonĂŠt, who orchestrated some of Grandeâs best songs (âHoneymoon Avenueâ, âMoonlightâ, âBe Alrightâ etc.), are instrumental in the making of thank u, next, making strange but intriguing wordplay in âNASAâ and âmake upâ and turning therapeutic acceptance into chart-topper in âthank u, nextâ. Andrew âPopâ Wansel, who wrote Nicki Minajâs stunning âThe Crying Gameâ, helps pen the defiant thesis of Grandeâs present M.O. (âfake smileâ) and articulates falling in love with the idea of a person with equal parts grace and savagery (âin my headâ).
Despite this number of people working on this album, thank u, next is easily Grandeâs most sonically cohesive and consistent full-length effort. The album frequently toggles between tempos, temperaments, and musical schools of thought, but its soundscape is decidedly and reliably current with trap at the center, sprinkled with instantly recognizable references (âHighlight of my life, like that Fenty Beauty kitâ) and Instagram-worthy lines (âYou could say âI love youâ through the phone tonightâ). This speaks to Grande and her teamâs ability to capture the zeitgeist, in ways that most of todayâs female pop frontrunners cannot. Also contributing to the of-the-moment nature of thank u, next is the comfort with which Grande moves between various vocal modes and ways of delivery, which she inherits from Sweetener and further hones on this record. Her usual acrobatics can be found on âimagineâ and âfake smileâ, but most of her performances on thank u, next feature her voice coasting lightly just above the production, a sort of weightlessness achievable only by an artist who, in her words, no longer has much to be afraid of. What truly places her in the new pop landscape, however, is her proficiency in styles previously inaccessible to vocalists of her ability, particularly rap, her capability of which she showed tentatively on some Sweetener cuts and which she shows with aplomb here. â7 ringsâ sounds like a rap song with a featured vocalist, Grandeâs performance immediately drawing comparisons to Soulja Boy and Princess Nokia (rousing plagiarism accusations from them as well). Throwback or theft, that her rap is so convincing is a testament to her abilities. Elsewhere, âfake smileâ uses the same sample as Wu-Tang Clanâs âTearzâ â Wendy Reneâs âAfter Laughter (Comes Tears)â â to preface a personal but presently universal refusal to hide oneâs unhappiness.
Unsurprisingly, the cuts that feel the most weightless end up being the most harrowing. âneedyâ sounds almost like itâs designed to be fleeting. Done and dusted before the three-minute mark, the albumâs second track is, in many ways, a micro-transgression unto itself: itâs a forthright admission of a want for emotional connection that society considers damning, but it argues that to criticize that craving would be a self-own (âI know how good it feels to be neededâ); not least of all, it knows its job and that itâs achieved its objective, so it does away with the final third of the song entirely. Still, nothing on this record beats âghostinâ, where it feels something has clicked in Grandeâs head. To an extent, âghostinâ is the converse to âneedyâ: âghostinâ almost purposely crawls through its 4 minutes and 31 seconds, and it seems designed to linger. In a particularly Swiftian move, the Mac Miller sample at the beginning of the track tells you all you need to know. With not so many words, Grande begins to break down her feelings of guilt for her still harboring feelings for another one and at one point even suggests feigning ignorance, which we all know now is impossible. The songâs emotional climax comes at the final minute, where words are long forgotten and we are left with the auditory equivalent of a bed of clouds that keeps ascending until it disperses, as if mirroring Grandeâs own moment of catharsis.
Wrapping up thank u, next is the cheekily, instantly memorably titled âbreak up with your girlfriend, i'm boredâ, whose position on the album closely mirrors that of âFormationâ on Lemonade. But rather than taking on any social commentary, the former offers Grandeâs own commentary on the preceding chapter of her life and a window into her humor, and might even serve as more fitting a conclusion to the record than the title track would. It is rather unexpected that after such a harrowing time in her life, she would be eager to jump right back into the game (with such a dangerous premise at that), but upon another look, the trackâs appearance reveals Grande as remarkably self-assured, confident that she will never fall down such a spiral again â or maybe she will, sad as that sounds. Nevertheless, thereâs not much sheâs afraid of anymore.

Found this online and thought itâd be fun. Wonât tag others, but would love to see reposts with your answers!
1. Who is your favorite male anime character? itâs always a toss-up but for today will say Spike Spiegel
2. Who is your favorite female character? Lucy, Elfen Lied
3. What is your favorite anime soundtrack? Soul Eater
4. What is your favorite anime opening + animation? Iâve always thought the OP to Star Driver was really great - the art and graphic design is totally unique and the lyrics to the song (Gravity 0 - Aqua Timez) fit the show SO WELL, but the opening was made to fit the song, too. I still think itâs fantastic.Â
5. What is your favorite anime ending song + animation? Soul Eater again, what everybody calls the â3rd endingâ (Bakusou Yumeuta - Diggy Mo). Soul Eaterâs soundtrack has everything from quirky indie to old school punk, but this hip-hopish track just fit the attitudes of the characters and their fighting styles perfectly. (Seki-kun is a very, very close second!)
6. What is your favorite anime scene? Yeah, right. Like I could answer that one.
7. If you could meet an anime character who would it be? I wish I could answer this seriously, but every time I think about a 2D character coming into this world, all I can picture is Kreigerâs Mitsuko Miyazumi and it makes me laugh uncontrollably.
8. What anime character is most similar to you in terms of personality? I usually say Ichika Orimura, just because heâs full of good intention but really dense when it comes to women and misses signals all the time. I should probably come up with a new line of thought, though, because thatâs not exactly a flattering response lol
9. What is your favorite thing about anime? The imagination, the creativity, the fact that itâs drawn and anything at all is possible without a ginormous budget, so you get all these original stories colored well outside the lines of convention and safety standards that the entertainment industry is bound by.
10. What is your least favorite thing about anime? It took me a while to get used to the fanservice that is prevalent in even the most tame of anime, and there are times when an excess of it contributes to the story, but I have a hard time with it when an anime is overly-ecchi âjust becauseâ. It tends to really creep me out.
11. Who are your favorite anime couple? Kazuma and Ayano. They crack me up so much because they are cuckoo for cocoa puffs about each other but are too stubborn to ever admit it.
12. Who is your favorite anime animal? Will have to think about this one and come back to it.
13. What anime would make a good game? Another one have talked about at length, I would kill to see a full-fledged PvP MMORPG of the Fate/Stay series, where you choose which master you want to play as, develop skills and spells, eventually call your servant. The two of you quest together until endgame level, at which point you enter the Holy Grail war against other endgamers. Iâd be all over that one.
14. What game would make a good anime? It was a God of War knockoff and they already made a bad movie about it, but always thought Heavenly Sword could be an anime. Theyâd have to add quite a bit of content to get 12-13 episodes, though.
15. What was the first anime you ever watched? Robotech
16. Do you think youâll ever stop watching anime? No, but no way Iâll watch nearly as much - I do at some point plan on becoming a real adult again, and donât expect to have the time I do now.
17. What is your favorite genre of anime? It used to be mecha anime, and Iâm still really into it, but the fantasy/adventure series that are set in medieval-esque worlds have gotten the most of my love the last 2-3 years. Â .
18. What is your least favorite genre of anime? Horror
19. Are you open about watching anime with people you know? I was when I was younger, but now I think thereâs a stigmata that is attached to it because of my age. Like âoh, youâre one of those guysâ. Somehow being past like teens/early 20s and still into anime means youâre a creeper who is weird af and probably does bizarre things behind closed doors. I have to get to know someone before more than just a casual conversation about it.
20. Have you ever been to Japan? Yup, lived there for a little while in the Navy
21. What anime was the biggest let down for you? Death Parade. It had all the makings of one of those devastatingly memorable endings that would have rocketed it into history, but instead Chiyuki smiles, Decim says nothing, everybody gets off scot-free, and the show ends. WHAT THE F***.
22. What anime was better then expected? Charlotte. Every time my answer will be Charlotte. That one blew me away the first time.
23. What is the best anime fight scene? This one always comes up, and I never have an answer. There have been a few that made me want to cheer, though lol
24. Who is your anime waifu? Takao, Ars Nova/Arpeggio of Blue Steel, but the idea of a waifu or envisioning yourself in a relationship with an anime character - male or female - is something Iâve never really gotten.
25. What was your favorite video game as a child? Perfect Dark. It sooo needs a reboot
Questions about me
26. Most Embarrassing moment? When I was 13, I passed out during the prayer at a large outdoor service at a country church we were visiting, but fell straight down into my chair so only a few people knew about it. Someone called EMS, but the squad was unavailable, so this 38ft hook and ladder with lights and sirens going pulls in and everybody was like wtf
27a. Can you drive? Iâve driven on three continents
27b. Do you own a car? It barely qualifies as a car, but it is paid for so until I make more than $11/hr itâll have to do
28. Are you mature? Depends
29. Are you mature? Iâm going to be mature here and not make a big deal about asking the same question twice. In a row.
30. Do you prefer cats or dogs? I miss my dog all the time, but have nothing against cats unless they are total assholes.
31. Describe yourself physically? 6â˛2, dirty blonde/brown hair, not fat but not exactly Ryan Gosling either
32. What would you name your first child? I donât know, depends on the wife, I guess. Nothing too out there, though - I donât want a boxer or a stripper for a kid because they got scarred from everyone making fun of their name.
33. What is the worst injury you have ever had? Ruptured L4/L5 in my spine that popped out and pinched my sciatic nerve, then while I was rehabbing that slipped on ice and broke my elbow. NOTHING worked for a while.
34. What is your worse habit? I wall myself off when I need others most. Iâm actually really good at it.
35. Do you drink or smoke? I used to, and still do sometimes, but not nearly as often as I used to. Itâs just too expensive to go out all the time, and I hate being out of breath from one flight of stairs.
36. Do you have a tattoo? I have 3, want more
37. Are you a morning person or a night person? I wake early every morning for work, so even on my days off Iâm awake at like 6:30 now. Being an adult can really suck sometimes lol
38. Have you ever slept past midday? Not for a long time, but sure
39. Do you regret anything? Have you ever met anyone who doesnât?
40. Can you count the number of friends you have on one hand? Yes. I know lots of people and am friendly with them, but not what Iâd call a friend.
41. Do you wear glasses? No
42. Are you a picky eater? I loathe onions and the texture of stewed tomatoes will make me hurl, but just about everything else works.
43. Would you die for someone? Depends on the person and situation
44. If you could have any superpower, what would it be? Telekinesis, maybe? Not sure.
45. Do you believe in the supernatural? Not really. Thereâs plenty out there that we donât understand or know about, though. It wouldnât surprise me, but I donât really believe in it.
46. Would you rather be rich or famous? Rich, I couldnât handle people going through my garbage to see what brand of ice cream I prefer
47. Have you ever committed a crime? Is it a crime if you didnât get caught? lol
48. Pirates or ninjas? Ninjas, it requires precision, years of training, and incredible athleticism. Pirating requires you drink a lot and rob people.
49. Does someone have a crush on you? Would be nice to find out that I did, but would kind of suck for them
50. Are you in a relationship? Iâm not really in relationship mode right now
