Sorry for being late to post about Ramadan (school's been hell recently), but I thought I could take the opportunity to highlight some Muslim dolls! While there aren't many, one of my favorites is Fulla! For those unaware, Fulla was made by the company NewBoy FZCO and has been running since 2003! (MASSIVE thanks to Dollect for most of the information on her, at least throughout her early run in the 2000s) According to Dollect, some of the first dolls released of her with a hijab was in 2005 from the "Fulla with Abaya" sets, which apparently had embroidery on the sleeves! I love the long skirts, they give me Flower Power Barbie vibes!

There were also apparently "Outdoor Fashion" dolls with a surprise element where beneath their Abaya they'd be wearing an outfit of a specific color out of purple, pink, and green. They were MILES ahead of the surprise toy gimmick of the 2010s.

However, I can't find exactly what their outdoor outfits looked like? There aren't any images of them on Dollect, though I suppose these might be them? No confirmation of such, of course, but I found the pink one labelled for 2004 on another website.

It seems to check out with the description of having purple and pink variants in the outfit, but the beige and black leads me to believe these might be another release entirely... regardless I adore the detail in these coats! Anyway, I'll be posting about these more soon, but for now I better get back to that homework I just got distracted from lol. If you guys know of any other Muslim dolls you'd like me to post about feel free to send an ask!

I wanna know about You Know I'm Such A Fool For You! And also the embroidery projects you're working on👀

Yep, trying to answer this ask for over a day at this point had been entertaining at least 😅👌 but yes, if tumblr will let me, of course! 😊🫂💜

Okay so this fic is basically my child I adore it so much and I have barely started writing it 😅 Instead I transcripted over 6,000 words (so far) of DBD scenes that I want to include in the fic to make sure I got them right 😅👌 The general concept is the Cat King fixing his mistakes 🤣 So the fic starts from the Catwin forest scene and goes through most of the following events from the series with the Cat King actively trying to help Edwin and the others 😊

As for the snippet, I want to include a kind of long section from the end of the forest scene where the Cat King chases after Edwin in his cat form to try save him from Esther's trap again...

“If you walk away from me that thing is never coming off and you'll be trapped here forever and I will stop playing nice.”

His fists clench as he tries to contain a strange mix of rage and fear unlike anything he has felt in his long years. He doesn't even turn to see if Edwin is even still within earshot.

“Do you hear me I will stop fucking playing nice!” he yells into the emptiness of the forest surrounding him.

He knows Edwin is gone now. He knows he isn't coming back. And he knows it is definitely his fault.

If he hadn't trapped Edwin here for his own games, he wouldn't have ended up on Esther's radar, and he wouldn't be in the center of a worse than deadly trap right now. The Cat King can smell a forest elemental far larger than the little ones that were skittering around earlier swallowing up deer ghosts. Edwin and his little friends are in serious danger. And the Cat King just let him storm off right back into Esther's grasp.

Now who's the idiot.

With a deep sigh, a steadying breath, and a flurry of purple flame, the Cat King in cat form chases after Edwin.

The only issue is, this damn forest is such a maze he has lost him already. He feels like he is running in circles, panic increasing at the thought that he might never see Edwin again to apologise for fucking everything up. A loud roar from somewhere nearby utterly freezes him in his tracks. The forest elemental. Esther has found them.

He sprints as fast as his four legs can carry him in the direction of the roar, but when he sees it he stops in his tracks. It's fucking massive, so huge that he knows immediately that he will not be able to stop it or send it back to whatever realm it is supposed to be in. Fuck. He inches closer, trying to get a better view of what's going on. Esther is indeed here, clearly in control of the thing for now, and a deep sigh leaves him when he sees all three of those idiots just stood there facing down their certain erasing from existence. He's about to run in and distract Esther so the boys and their psychic can get the fuck out of here, when the elemental suddenly grabs Edwin and Charles in far too many tentacles and starts dragging them towards its face mouth thing.

The Cat King can't seem to get himself to move and help somehow. In a blink Crystal is on the ground, and the situation is escalating far beyond control. He has to do something, anything. Ester is leaning over over Edwin saying something the Cat King can just about make out over the muffled screams of the ghosts and the roar of the forest elemental. 

“God I love final moments.”

That damned bird who stole his love's first kiss swoops over head, cawing like he didn't just lead them into this, and the Cat King's rage bubbles over.

He leaps at Esther, scratching her back and leaping away again, trying to draw her away from the boys in the hope one of these idiots has a plan. Ester lets out a screech and whirls round to face him with an irritated grunt. He hisses at her and arches his back. If this bitch wants a fight, he'll give it to her.

“Of course. You mangy little Cat King. You couldn't leave my business well enough alone, could you?” Ester grasps her cane and stalks towards him.

He dives in again to scratch her legs then dodges a swing of her cane. He uses the opening to scratch her arm, then scampers backwards. He's trying to draw her away from the boys, and somehow it's working. Edwin and Charles are still holding on to something, still fighting, so he has to help. Using a tree as a springboard, the Cat King leaps up and manages scratch directly on Esther's face. The victory is short lived however, as on the way down, Esther swings that damned iron cane of hers straight into him.

The hit lands on his torso, sending him flying into the same tree he had just leapt off. He knows instantly that several of his ribs are broken, and no matter how hard he tries he can't push himself back up off the ground. 

He can't save Edwin.

Tears start to blur his vision, but he watches as Ester turns away from him, and walks directly back over to the boys. With no idea what else to do, he just screams at her.

“KEEP YOUR PAWS OFF OF HIM!”

She turns back around, the smirk on her face clear even from this distance. The Cat King is just happy she isn't looming over Edwin anymore, even if his shout means she is going to come and kill him instead. He's got more lives to live, Edwin doesn't.

She doesn't even make it two steps before Crystal has suddenly barreled into her, knocking them both to the ground.

The Cat King watches the ensuing fight in utter shock as Crystal does a better job of beating the shit out of Esther than he managed to do. He is still trying to force himself back up off of the ground, and keeping one eye on the boys just in case, when he sees Edwin lose his grip with one arm. He lets out a screech and tries even harder to get up and get back to the boys so he can help somehow. He also watches as Esther gains the upper hand in the fight, pinning Crystal to the floor only to then drag her back up and send her flying across the forest.

With all the effort he can muster, the Cat King forces himself to stand, and start limping towards Edwin. Perhaps if he scratches the forest elemental and pisses it off enough, it will take him instead. Edwin and Charles both lose their grip, and the Cat King is running before he even realises it. They manage to catch another part of the forest floor but this time it's Charles who almost slips. The Cat King doesn't care, if one of them goes, they both go, and he won't let that happen. He continues to sprint towards them, ignoring the burning in his lungs.

Esther's foot lands a blow in the same place her cane had, and she kicks him across the forest.

He lands hard, yet again too far away to help, and this time with his vision blurring from the pain. The muffled screams intensify for a moment, and he just has to lay there and hope that neither of the boys are gone.

“Stupid cat,” he hears Esther comment, and in all honesty, he can't help but agree.

He was stupid. Stupid to believe Edwin would let him save him and come back for Charles and Crystal. Stupid to think he could take on Esther and actually make a difference. Stupid to think that he would actually be able to help.

Crystal was on her knees on the floor, too far away to help, the Cat King was barely conscious at this point, Edwin and Charles were losing their grip. It was over.

looking at this design, it's easy to tell how much love, time, and effort was put into it. with elements that mirror loki's canon moteifs altered in ways that feel cozy, it's undeniable that there was a lot of thought put into the jötnar as a people. they mirror asgard in a way that directly contrasts the claims we see the aesir make of them, while still feeling like a separate and distinct culture with their personalized magic, unique horns, and clear social dynamics

while deceptively simple, this design is thoughtful and paints a very different picture of jötunheim than we are used to seeing in canon. this design implies a combination of mythologies, which we are very used to in marvel, while giving love and thought to a vivid world of religion which is not often given the same respect as norse or greek mythology. protected from the weather in a way that would not make a temperature-sensitive frost giant overheat, loki's design is full of love for both fantasy, and the very real people who often inspire it 💞

it means the world to me that as many people participated as they did and i really hope that this contest helped make this fandom a more inclusive space in some way

picking the winners for this was SO DIFFICULT. so under the cut, i have also enthused about some of the submitted designs because i wanted to be able to share my thoughts on more of them. i'm so sorry that i wasn't able to get to everyone!!

i know it's based on a canon design and russian ashkenazi fashion but the hair jewelry just looks so in-place here. if it was cold enough outside that i needed to layer my clothes then i too would prefer to wear my metals in my hair where it wouldn't feel cold against my skin

and the idea of loki in bronze instead of gold is one that i adore. i associate gold so heavily with asgard AND with loki that whenever i try to design jötun lokis, it's incredibly difficult to pick whether to use gold or not. bronze is the PERFECT solution to this

it helps with that balance of showing them in minimal clothing to get across their lack of sensitivity to the cold while also actually protecting them from the snow they are likely at least knee-deep in half the time

I finally found the time to draw (I flatter myself again, who else will do it if not me), and since I recently used pictures of forget-me-nots, I decided that Alfie really needs a flower crown… A silly thought. So when I added floweres to the picture a small scene came to mind. Just the cute one… I thought about this scene the whole time I was coming home from work (for once I actually walked…), and it was fun and sweet, and I almost saw Alfie's smiling face in front of me and blushed and giggled like enamored teenager. But when I sat down to write, it turned out pretty plain. I'm a little upset. Maybe I'll fix it a bit later…

I went out into the garden and immediately noticed him lying on the grass. I come closer and smile. He looks so peaceful and completely in his element, surrounded by flowers. I should NEVER tell him that, otherwise he would tease me to no end…

Trying not to wake him up, I came closer and knelt down. The urge to touch him was so strong that I could barely control myself. If I look at him for even a moment longer, I'll definitely do something stupid. I averted my gaze and noticed the little blue flowers. I didn't know they grew in this garden, I definitely hadn't seen them before. They are so small that I might just not notice them. I pluck a twig, and an unexpected thought came to mind…

I pluck a flower and gently put it in his hair, then another one… I was so engrossed in my doing that totally forgot that the object of my craft if fact a living person.

What are you doing?

I flinch and almost drop the flower I was holding. Oh, no, I got caught…

Taking his silence for consent, I keep adding more and more flowers to his hair, like threads to embroidery. His shiny black hair always looks amazing, but with pale blue flowers it becomes so adorably cute...

I didn't know you liked my hair so much.

He laughed softly, but remained motionless. I lean down to reach his head from the other side and meet the amused gaze of his gray eyes.

But as soon as I saw the peaceful expression on his face, all my desire to fight disappeared. Downton Abbey Fashion 69 - evening dresses in 1924

Rose’s evening dresses really settle into the pastels this season, so much that I’m thrown for a loop on the two or three occasions when she goes for jewel tones instead. Twelve dresses, that’s fewer than Mary has but curiously more than Edith. Let’s see.

While the pastels fill most of the time, Rose begins and ends the season in blue. This first one is rather an example for the fancy sack look, but I like how the little sleeves are draped around her arms. It’s got a lot of beading all over it, wavy lines and curlicues shaping up to bigger ornamented areas on the sides.

Someone must’ve taken a look at this at some point and gone: “Rose in orange? This is wrong; she needs to wear soft pinks!” because we’ll get an accumulation of soft pinks soon after this. This one is mainly chiffon filled with tons and tons of tiny golden curlicues, framed in wide velvet trim on the skirt and the neckline. I quite like this despite the evident baggy top effect; both the neckline leaning a little toward a cowl and the split skirt have something structural going on, and there are those flowers added to her shoulder.

The lighting here makes me unsure of the color, but I hope it’s soft pink, because if not, it’s beige. And if this dress is beige, it really has nothing going for it. There’s a bit of embroidery, flower brambles I think, short sleeves with no interesting shape, and that’s it.

A bronze dress with tiny golden leaves all over, this is one of the few occasions where I kind of wish they had skipped the additional embroidery on the waist as it doesn’t really fit in there color-wise. Can’t tell you anything about the skirt because dinner table shots, but Rose likes this enough to wear it again as a married woman – which means it’s tiara time! And honestly, that tiara is adorable.

More lousy lighting, but try to believe me that the dress is green. In fact, it may be a green velvet, dappled in silver to match the silk satin under layer. The front has this weird almond-shaped stomach panel going on; I personally feel the back with that plunging V of silver folds looks more elegant, which isn’t a new concept regarding 1920s. They liked them their back designs.

Off to pinks. This one is a tad more on the salmon side, and it’s got these thin vertical beading lines all over, emphasizing the desired streamlined silhouette but curiously going into a bit of a curve on the sides of her waist, and then the drop waist line just gets a massive up in either silver or pale golden embroidery.

Took me a while to tell this one from the previous; with the same neckline and shoulder straps, an only slightly pinker shade of pink (which can easily be put down to lighting) and the same vertical beading lines, it doesn’t look a whole lot different until you look at the skirt. They always confuse me when they have two extremely similar items in their wardrobe; who does that? But to the skirt business: The beading here spreads out into a sort of fractal flower motif, and then she has these little ruffles sitting on her hips. It’s also tiara time again, and they really need to lay off the rose motif already. Her name is Rose and she likes pink; we get it.

Okay, no, they don’t need to lay off the rose motif here. This dress is stunning. This combination of pale gold sequins and auburn chiffon ruffle hem? Beautiful. Plus the chevron configuration is giving it some illusion of shaping that the 1920s cut doesn’t actually have. And then they do the usual thing, marking the drop waist not in terms of structure but only in decoration – and honestly this garland of flowers ends up looking so elegant. I love it, no notes.

Another peachy pink silk satin. I have conflicted feelings about this dress, in particular about its most striking element, the scalloped strap going over her throat from one shoulder to the other. On one hand, I’m cringing at imagining the sensation of wearing this; on the other, I think it looks really good. Rose also coordinated the scallop shape well with her jewelry; look at her bracelet. The sequin-and-pearls sun motif on the skirt is okay, a little clunky perhaps.

This dress is more on the pale golden side of peach, and it’s working with this turtle shell scales pattern, all of it in glittery beading. And yet more glitter as this silver zigzag band crosses in an X over the front and frames the skirt – I know the second shot is grainy and poorly-lit, but the movement in these skirt panels is beautiful. They also put a color-matching chiffon rose in her hair because Subtle Symbolism™, and while I’m tired of the latter, the look is very nice.

You know things are bad when an off-white outfit is a relief. Finally a different color scheme! Silver in this case, but Rose sticks with her glitter which seems to be a ton of rhinestones running in a sort of feather design to both sides of her top. I wish these cowards had gone full in and given her a real skullcap with dangly bits and all. Rebel Rose would totally have worn something extravagant like that. Ah well, the bejeweled hairnet is still something, and the earrings are cute. Fun fact: This silver dress is one of at least two clothing articles on Downton Abbey that previously made an appearance in the 2008 movie Easy Virtue, where Sarah Hurst wears it and it’s scandalously and period-untypically short. So perhaps the added chiffon layers underneath the skirt are there to cover Rose’s knees.

Rose ends the season like she started it, in blue, and I’m only now realizing that this is the culmination of her initial blue-red character color scheme. She hasn’t worn one single red dress over the entire season. Because in Julian Fellowes country, good character development is only when you get all of your adversity out of you and become a sweet, perfect little lady… Here’s hoping Rose will cause her father-in-law an aneurysm. Anyway, beaded golden lace layered over blue, the usual cut, simple jewelry. Why are these people not wearing sleeves on Christmas?

A chilly Thawfest season sketch of Siri @artinandwritin !!

This is the only idea so far that I could clean up enough to post + that feels sufficiently Siri to me. Inspired by the cozy coat I see her in a lot but with springtime elements based on her adorable flower hairstyle, it’s a bit fancy thanks to the embroidery but too cute to resist. Her earrings are also meant to match Astrid’s in my chieftess sketch and I think they’d probably be stamped with some sort of subtle nadder design since the cousins have that in common

In otwd/itpn she’s about 35 and works with Ruffnut as a midwife, along as just a general assistant to Ruff whenever she needs a hand with any healer stuff. This def isn’t how she dresses while working haha but perfect for perusing the market w Astrid or Ruff on a brisk spring day ❤️

having a robe and lingerie and sleepwear moment, here is what i think the genshin men would like on you:

(cw: not sfw, most of these link to pictures on irl models if you're uncomfortable with that, they're also for a more femme-presenting reader and as many as i could find are on plus models bc what is my blog for if not self-indulgence!!!)

as much as diluc loves you in his colours - and he does, for you're stunning in red - in the end, he falls over himself for you in soft pastels and whites with frills and lace and fluff and ruffles, that he can slowly prise his fingers beneath and admire the sight of you in. anything that might be read as 'bridal' has his heart beating too fast in his chest and his breath coming in hungry little pants.

alhaitham doesn't mind a little fanciness - a nice lace trim, for instance - but he's also logical and rational at heart, and if he has to fumble too often with too many complicated little fastenings, it is going to eat into the time he can spend doing what he really wants to do - which is, of course, make you feel so good that you cry out his name and kaveh gets a taste of his own medicines. he does love you in his colours, though - something about seeing you in that deep green he outfits himself in . . . it's hard to not want to run his hands all over you.

dottore likes restraints and leather and anything shiny; he loves harnesses and buckles and anything that reminds him that, at heart, you are a little mouse trapped by him (even if that entrapment is by choice). he appreciates an element of fetish; he wants you to remember that he's in charge. one of the most likely to have you in a corset and enjoy watching you learn to acclimatise; this particular set has buckles and fishnets, so . . . yes, that leaves him a happy man.

pantalone is a man of luxury. he wants his beloved in things made only of the finest - something elegant and lovely that makes him feel glad to come home to you and find you at the end of the bed with your lashes fluttering prettily. he likes classic colours and fabrics like silk and feathers; there is something of the classic hollywood in his preferences. and, naturally, he loves seeing you keep as much of it on as possible when he takes you.

ayato is yet another man who likes elegance; he thinks you ought to always have the proper underpinnings to any outfit you wear, and he gets great delight from both helping you dress and helping you undress, clipping stockings and artfully arranging things . . . and knowing that beneath the demure outfit you wear to the yashiro commission's latest elegant function, you're sinfully lovely. fine embroidery and lovely lace also greatly appeal to him; like on this lovely satin and roses piece.

childe likes anything he can rip off of you - and, unfortunately, he thinks his strength means he can indeed rip anything off of you. his favourite colour to see his beloved in is red; there's something of the 'red to a bull' in him, and when he sees it on you . . . oh, it's on. he likes things that are tight to your body and show off everything; he's not big on lace and frilly bits, he just wants to bite into you and take you for his own instead of playing around. there's something about a set like this - quarter cups, cut-outs - that has him going wild on how much flesh is on display.

venti likes something a little playful; he doesn't mind if you're wearing things hard to take off, that's half of the fun for him! he adores ruffles and floaty bits and pieces that he can toy with using the wind - and, naturally, he adores feathers. they feel so light and airy! so a set like this has him drooling onto the floor. there's so much potential there!

dainsleif, much like diluc, likes the reminder that you are a sweet lovely thing. the choice of pale colours and ribbons and lace do occasionally remind him that he feels like he is profaning something holy . . . but when you strip off your clothes and flutter your eyelashes and ask him to take you, please, it's not such a bad thing to be imagining. how could something sinful feel as good as you feel around him?

kaveh adores drama. he loves pieces with long trains, with feathers, with beautiful fabrics that drape over you lusciously so he can admire the way that it heightens your curve or sweeps elegantly across the floor. so it's entirely likely that he has a terribly sheer robe with mounds and mounds of feathery fluff (all the more likely because he knows it will shed feathers and that will drive alhaitham out of his mind - this pettiness is worth the fact that kaveh will be the one cleaning the feathers up) - but most of all, he likes your body and form underneath it. with nothing else on it at all.

Curious things they are!!! Love sniffing at the siblings, inspecting every aspect of them. Very touchy, too. They got down and dirty with Phil just to see what he was packing, they're not against doing it to others to learn LMAO. Besides the doves only Special, Cowbell, Nihil, Primo, and Imperator know the ancient dialects they use. Not even the other ghouls understand what they're saying, it's so foreign and has been changed to the more modern Ghoulish they have now.

They all had blackberries for a while and only understood the numbers/"hang up"/"answer". They are NOT technology types. However, they do have a shared smart phone and computer! Still very much prefer their black berries. I mean, how else are they gonna get 500+ messages from Special rambling about his new breakthrough and videos of Bell showing a caterpillar?

Sarra really loves meditating and reading. In his meditation, he's able to connect to the descendants of his mates in the pit. He's a 6-great grandfather! He knows his past mates and single child is deceased while he's still alive (time moves faster in the Pits than Topside), but he's able to cope calmly knowing his generations are succeeding. Has an interest for Stephen King!

Aqua, like other water ghouls, enjoys spending his time in the lake/the giant tub in their den. He's an oceanic so it doesn't always satisfy him, but it's better than nothing! Accidentally started a rumor that the loch Ness monster was in the ministry's lake. No, it's just Aqua in his true form sorry y'all 🫡

Gaia enjoys working in the farm and pastures, so deeply rooted in his culture of the earths blessings, he can't help but be around his element constantly. He's been found asleep in the sheep pastures enjdjd. Besides that, he enjoys painting! Super good at it, too! He also likes watching documentaries and does the really creepy head turn when someone's behind him wnejdj "Did you know that whales only rest half of their brain while the other stays awake? I do wonder how that feels."

Iris is a big needle worker!! Has made knitted blankets, mittens, socks, crocheted tops, jackets, and a few plushies, then has done a shit tone of embroidery. He has a rocking chair in the common room, and around it is baskets of yarn, thread, and his needles. His biggest project ever was making each of his mates wing blankets for the winter season (and of course, he included Cowbell by making him hoof warmers!!!)

Agni adores cooking and everything about it! Has a whole bunch of cookbooks and has even written his own for mimic recipes of food in the Pit. He also a big fan of making his own compositions but is terrible at writing it down legibly for others to read, he has his own way of writing notes. #1 dad pun maker, he loves thinking of some and then writing them down to use on his null mates.

Spicy wise? Fucking. Freaks. They're only sexual with each other and Special.

They're rough, crude, enjoy hurting one another for sexual enjoyment. They're all sado/masochist, their mating looks like them killing each other. Blood play, biting, degradation, and even bitten flesh chunks. Amazing at aftercare, however, and it's all consensual :3

But with Special? Oh they're so sweet!! They know they're... Huge, and Special is small. They take care in prepping him, kissing his entire body and worshipping him. They adore how he can nestle on their lap perfectly. He's not spared from their freak tho. Piss, blood, sometimes even letting Phil kink-top with his medical kink!

And here we come to the second part, concerning Helaena.

Blue also predominates in capes and overcoats, enriched with embroidery and fur inserts for the colder seasons.

Of these dresses I love the colour, the texture of the fabrics and the embroidery motifs, and then I particularly like this neckline. I find it clean and not vulgar. Alicent would certainly never allow her daughter to uncover too much. On the other hand, he can't make the future queen of the Seven Kingdoms dress like a demure septa either... Who knows, but I imagine Helaena to be curvy, so the sight is certainly very pleasing.

Helaena is not particularly fond of ostentatious jewellery, which she only wears for important occasions. Her favourite stones are purple amethysts, which obviously match her eyes, and sapphires. Aemond really likes this element. Yes, she wore this necklace at her coronation. I do not accept contrary opinions on this.

The insect design predominates in Helaena's style, needless to deny, and it suits us just fine. I find these earrings absolutely adorable. Strictly a gift from Grandpa Otto.

Having talked abundantly about clothes and accessories, I'd say let's move on to hair.

House of the Dragon shows no particular inventiveness for Helaena, on the other hand I appreciate the simplicity of her hairstyles. Helaena prefers to wear her hair almost loose, bound only by two braids which then cross at the nape of her neck or a crown braid which encircles the front of her hair. On the other hand, the design of her wigs is horrible: Helaena has waist-length hair, soft silver curls that she takes special care of.

Of course, there is no shortage of hairpins with pearls to light up her hair, hair clips and combs, strictly with insects. Helaena also loves to weave flowers into her hair. Her children especially love doing it.

Books I Read in 2023

#49 - The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics, by Olivia Waite

If I inspect the individual elements separately, I should have loved this. I should have adored this. It's queer and sapphic, it's got science, it's got themes of self-discovery, it's got embroidery. There's no particular reason anybody reading this review should know this about me, but I am a total sucker for artisan/crafter characters, and I've been embroidering since I was old enough to hold a needle without doing myself bodily harm, so I should have loved Catherine, and this book, more than anything.

But I didn't. I struggled to get through it. 

At first I couldn't pinpoint what was giving me trouble, and I thought maybe it was me having a slump, not the book. But the farther I got, the more I realized I kept picking up and putting down the book, reading in small chunks, because the plot was so episodic. Nothing mattered for very long, because every new obstacle to the romance completely eclipsed the previous ones, which ceased to matter because they were resolved almost as soon as they were introduced. There was no flow, no follow-through, and no patience required.

I also think in attempting to make Lucy and Catherine show their relative ages, the difference in their maturity levels may have been too extreme. The age gap doesn't seem that large on paper, but Lucy's wild mood swings and exaggerated reactions to the slightest problems made her feel younger than she was supposed to be, and Catherine's hesitance to act on her growing feelings seemed reasonable at first but eventually seemed to be a sort of stodgy stubbornness that made her feel too old.

I didn't like these two together, and without that, what's the point of a romance? On top of that, the romance often felt like the subplot, rather than the main focus, because so much of the story was about the two women attempting to become their best selves.

Downton Abbey Fashion 4 - Edwardian indoors fashion

Time for indoors outfits! Now, since I’m wholly lacking in Edwardian propriety, I’m throwing in various kinds of outfits here, blouse-and-skirt combinations as much as tea gowns because, let’s be honest, I cannot tell a tea gown from a nice day dress.

Like this. What category of dress is this? Not sure I care. The blue print fabric is lovely! Quite crisp in the pleats, so I think it’s a taffeta, and it’s even got some embroidery on the front V and the cuffs. And because the Dowager™ is a woman of taste, she pairs it with white lace. The bow on the throat wouldn’t be to my taste, but who would Violet be if she suddenly kept up with fashion?

Interestingly, the first time we see Isobel, she’s also wearing a blue dress over a white lace blouse. Granted, it’s something very different than Violet’s grand gown; the color is a lot more understated, the fabric doesn’t have the same silky sheen, the print is more unassuming. I do like the little brooch with the cabochon though, and the earrings – in fact, several Crawley women wear this style of cameo ear studs.

Geez Louise Isobel, look alive; I was about to compliment the blouse. This print is fucking adorable, and the color! It’s a rare occasion to see something not pastel around here, so credit where it’s due. Especially early on, Isobel seems to prefer this sort of blouse, a simple cut, fitted sleeves, sturdy fabric.

Right away another one, only this one goes with the frumpier print and is lacking the nice puffy shoulder bits the previous had. Or maybe it’s the collar that makes this look frumpy?

For something new, a nice dress. The lavender color suggests her affiliation with the purple-prone Grantham Crawleys. I do quite like this one; the collar is way more flattering than the previous, and different than the blouses that wouldn’t look out of place in the 1940s either, this dress seems to have a fundamentally Edwardian silhouette. Funny thing is, it reappears – not in the next season, but in the third, when the girls have already moved on to early 1920s fashion. But why should Violet have the monopoly on being behind?

I think I’ve seen this dress only in this one scene, and I couldn’t get a non-blurry more extensive shot of it. Shame; I would have liked to see more of this bodice embroidery, especially since this looks like it might be a silk dress, aka one of the more expensive ones Early Isobel owns.

Oof. How does Isobel pull off a dress with a similar color and a similar collar with so much more grace? Cora, darling, this is a mess. It’s got, like, four different shades. Velvet here, white-patterned trim there; it looks too busy. I’m not even sure if it fits, with the way it wrinkles. Also, I’m very grateful she never again wears quite this style of high-necked blouse. If you want to put your head on a plate of lace, you either go big, as in a full-on ruff, or you go home. And when you get home, burn that blouse. It’s all yellowed anyway.

Much better. This tidies up a lot of the frill I find off-putting about the previous. More streamlined, less add-on elements, the velvet can stand on its own here, the trim is way better coordinated with the overall picture. This style is doing a lot more for Elizabeth McGovern’s figure, too. Still not a great fan of the famous Edwardian high collar, but at least it’s not trying and failing at being a ruff.

In general, Cora seems to like this white blouse with all the horizontal pin tucks, because she wears it under several dresses. This dark blue velvet number with the translucent chest area is a holdover to season 2, and I will give it that; it looks incredibly comfortable to lounge around in. And there’s the black piping pattern around the chest and shoulders adding a little chic to the whole deal.

This dark purple one is one of my favorites; I will freely admit that I prefer it with the open V-necked blouse in the second picture. What can I say; just because the first style is more authentically Edwardian, it doesn’t necessarily appeal to me. But of course, the high neck gives Cora a point to put her pretty brooches. Other than that, I don’t know. This dress is so simple; there’s really not much to it, just a wrap top with an embroidered trim. But it hits juuuust right.

And another favorite. No notes. I love it. The silver silk, the waist gathers flowing right into the wide sleeves, this absolute dream of embroidery? I want this with a vengeance.

jacaerys velaryon was a learned boy of eight-and-ten, prince of dragonstone and heir to the iron throne of westeros – yet he was completely tongue tied anytime you were near.

you first met the prince when he came to winterfell to visit your brother – lord cregan stark. he arrived on dragonback, sending up plumes of snow when he landed. assembled with the other lords and ladies of the keep, you retreated further into your fine furs. winter had come, and it was a cold one.

“my prince,” lord cregan announced, welcoming jacaerys as he entered the gates, now on foot, “the north welcomes you.”

“i’m pleased to make your acquaintance, lord cregan,” jacaerys smiled, warm and open, “many thanks to your house for such a welcome.”

cregan nodded, then gestured to you, “my younger sister.”

you dutifully stepped forward, curtsied, and introduced yourself, “welcome, your grace. i have heard many tales of your bravery.”

was the prince… blushing?

he seemed to stutter for a moment before he nodded stiffly, “my lady.”

for a feast held in his honor, the prince did not seem to be enjoying it much.

you, however, were in your element. the north was a large place, so cold and empty that you rarely had guests. to have so many of the great houses together? you were delighted. 

from the moment the dancing started, you didn’t leave the floor. you accepted every man who offered his hand, twirling and spinning and giggling with the other ladies until you practically fell over.

when you returned to your seat beside your brother's, you were flushed and panting. he was off somewhere you did not know, so only an empty chair sat between you and prince jacaerys.

“you do not dance, your grace?” you questioned, pouring yourself a cup of wine.

“i confess it is not my forte,” he looked away with a laugh, “and please, call me jace.”

you took a sip of the deep red liquid, “only if you will grant me a dance. jace.”

you held out a hand, and grinned when he took it. he took the lead from there, leading you out onto the center of the floor. the light grey fabric of your skirts swirled around his dark leather, the silver embroidery shining in candlelight.

“i don’t wish to imply you are a liar,” you began, spinning away from him, then back in, “but you are quite the dancer, my – jace.”

he just chuckled, ducking his head, “you are far outshining me, my lady.”

the next day, jacaerys brought news at breakfast, “my lady mother will be joining us tomorrow. she will only stay for a short while, but wishes to make your acquaintance, lord cregan.”

“how delightful,” you smiled, “to think, brother – the queen, here!”

“yes, yes,” he huffed, then looked at the prince, “we would of course be delighted to host queen rhaenyra.”

“will she be arriving on syrax, jacaerys?” you inquired, and when he nodded, you grinned even wider, “i never dreamed i would see a dragon in this lifetime, but to have two right here at winterfell!”

“would… would you like to go see vermax, my lady?” the prince proposed.

“oh, brother, please,” you sighed, “may i?”

cregan only waved his hand and continued eating.

within half an hour, you and jacaerys were standing in front of the dragon. he was sleeping when you arrived, but a huge golden eye opened as he sensed your approach.

you froze as he examined you, but jacaerys held his arm steady at your back, “it’s alright, my lady. he’s – he won’t hurt you. he’s a gentle creature.”

you were so close you could feel the heat radiating off of him when vermax fully awoke, raising his head up.

you stumbled back, but jacaerys put himself in between you and the dragon, “umbas, vermax.”

he helped you move closer, and whispered, “lykiri. this is lady stark, vermax.”

the dragon huffed, almost like a petulant child, but when jace moved your hand to his snout, he didn’t object.

you laughed in amazement, “what did you say to him?”

“it’s high valyrian – umbas means ‘stay’, and lykiri means ‘calm’.”

“lykiri,” you whispered, running the tips of your fingers across his smooth scales, “how do you say hello?”

he smiled, reaching out to stroke the dragon, “rytsas.”

“rytsas, vermax,” the word was unfamiliar on your tongue, but vermax lowered his head. still awake, but clearly relaxed, “he’s beautiful.”

“he is,” jacaerys agreed, but he was watching you.

queen rhaenyra, true to her word, arrived the next day. once again, you bundled up in your finest furs to await her arrival. syrax’s entrance was grand, yellow scales glinting in the sunlight as the queen landed her. she was enormous, bigger than vermax, but seemed docile.

as your brother introduced you, she eyed you carefully. but, you held your head high, smiled brightly and curtsied as low as you could.

“the young lady stark is quite beautiful,” rhaenrya stated to her son, “have you had much chance to become acquainted?”

she was resting on a chair by the fireplace in her quarters, warming herself after the freezing ride to winterfell.

“a bit. i took her to meet vermax,” he sighed, leaning on the mantle, “i confess – i can scarcely speak to her. everytime i do, i make a fool of myself. i’m the prince of dragonstone, and i start stuttering like a child”

“oh my darling,” she smiled knowingly, “you have affections for her?”

he knew before he answered. everytime you smiled at him, it was like dragonfire warming his insides. your touch sent sparks down his arms, the way you moved when you danced entranced him. even vermax seemed to like you.

so, he nodded, blushing creeping up his neck.

“you must tell her then,” rhaenyra decided, leaning back in the chair, “you are the crown prince of the seven kingdoms, but i will give you leave to pursue your own choice in wife. and the lady stark would not be an unwelcome match.”

“what?” he furrowed his eyebrows.

rhaenyra sighed, “jace. if you like her, you must make your affections known. if you wish to marry her – you have my blessing. though i cannot speak for cregan stark, i believe it would be an excellent match.”

after begging his leave from his mother, jace nearly sprinted to your quarters. when he arrived, he found only a servant who informed him you were in the godswood. by the time he found his way through the labyrinth of trees, he was panting and sweating despite the cold.

you heard footsteps and looked up from the tome you were reading by the weirdwood in the center, “my – jace?” you stood as he approached you, “are you alright?”

he could scarcely breathe as he took your hands in his, “can i kiss you, my lady?”

you froze, mouth agape, searching his face. you tried to say yes, yes, please, but no sound would leave your throat. all you could do was nod and his lips were on yours. his hands moved to cup your face so tenderly, while yours curled in the fabric of his tunic. it was breathless and sweet and over all too soon.

jace was nearly gasping by the time he let you go, “i – my apologies. i ran here.” his hands moved to hold your waist.

“wh–,” you laughed, cupping his cheek, feeling the hard line of his jaw, “why did you do that?”

“i wanted to ask you to marry me,” he let out a nervous breath.

you froze once again. a pause.

“you don’t jest?” you whispered.

he shook his head vehemently, “no, no, never. i confess i have made a fool of myself time and again, but you – you are everything wonderful in this world. you are bold and tender and i completely adore you. please,” he breathed, “please, marry me.”

“yes,” you murmured, moving closer until your foreheads touched, “a thousandfold, yes.”

when his lips met yours again, you could feel him smile against them.

We don't really have "specific blogs" around here as per se. There's @sleepanonymous who's the resident Librarian/Archivist/Knowledge Keeper, and then there are some blogs that do exclusively fanart and fanfiction.

Otherwise we're all a mix of everything. Most of us do a mix of lore theories / analysis / fanart / shitpost. Since the band itself doesn't have an "actual" set lore, you'll find a lot of different takes for the same songs / themes. you know how they pretty much always look Good and Complimentary to each other? i like the idea that they wear matching/complimentary pjs.

the lord and lady of driftmark get called out of their chambers in the middle of the night to deal with something, and there they are: in impressive, matching, blue and white linens and dressing gowns. matching slip on sheep skin shoes as well. even if they were sleeping in seperate beds the night for whatever reason. they’re ALWAYS on point

You know what, they have an aesthetic, they stick to it, and I love it. I adore how their styles complement one another, specifically when the occasion calls for it or the garments have a specific purpose. For example, the blues in Rhaenys's tournament gown complement the light blues present in Corlys's tunic. The gold outfits for the wedding. The dark blues of their mourning outfits. They always dress for the occasion! And then the nightgowns. I wish we had seen those outfits with better lighting, or had some HQ pictures of those costumes. This is the best I could really find:

To your comments, these are their pjs. And whilst they don't match, they do complement again. Insanely well. I love it when you can almost speak to a relationship just through their clothes and these outfits really do that, for me. I'll tell you why:

Masculine and feminine shapes: The way the costumers went for the male/female ideals and archetypes within both of these characters and then showing that in clothes as well as their personalities and relationship IS. MY. JAM. I love it. The basics of these outfits are the same: long nightgown/shirt. And a brown robe over the top. But the shapes are super cool, especially in the sleeves. Corlys's are narrower, Rhaenys has these great big ones that are far more dramatic and showy and gown-like; feminine. I wish I knew the right terminology but hey-ho. Corlys has a higher neckline whilst Rhaenys's dips a little. Although, both outfits start and end at the same place on the body because Rhaenys's collar of her night coat... robe... thing, well, that starts high up on the neck, like her husband's nightshirt, and his sits on his shoulders more. It's less structured that way. I haven't a clue what is on their feet but I would not be surprised about matching slippers.

Masculine and feminine details/embroidery: Corlys's nightshirt is plain but for detailing around the collar. Rhaenys has embroidery throughout and is far more delicate around the neck, with her little silky bow and his is a thicker one around his neck, with beads on the end; heavier. That looks to be similar in terms of fabric as well. And then the outer layer is just gorgeous. Corlys's is so patterned but it's very subtle, and threaded with gold. Rhaenys's is blinged to high heaven. There's some sort of pattern all on it, it almost looks stamped in the back and it's FULL of little mirrors or jewels or such that glimmer in the firelight. All on her back, all around her sleeves and in those really flattering diagonal patterns on the torso.

Complimentary, not matching: We know that Rhaenys and Corlys as a marriage works pretty darn well for one in Westeros. But in a lot of ways, they are opposites: fire and water, calmness and combustion, staying and leaving, etc etc. This episode more than most highlighted the differences between them, and their diverging paths. But then we have them both entering at the same time, from the same place, looking in sync and you can't really see all that visual storytelling without understanding that whatever divides them, there's still a bond and a relationship there. These nightgowns have the same palette, even in the embroidery; all the browns and golds and silvers/white. The colours are all the same, they both have gold on (rings, and then Corlys has it in his hair, Rhaenys in her earrings). They are the same length, and composed of the same elements. I can't imagine that's anything approaching a coincidence, can you?

Expensive AF: nothing more than that, really. They're just rich and they know it. And I love that for them. It's just fancy.

And... I've just gone on a rant about nightgowns and robes, haven't I? Yup. Sorry. In fairness, they are great.

i got one (1) yes, so... this is just how i see his design and why I love it so images at the bottom of the post lol

can i just talk about Four's, and the colours, design really quick? Okay; Four being the smallest member of the chain, smaller than Wind who's 14, really ties in with the fact Four can become as small as a minish. the picture of four n wind really shows how much smaller four is The minish feather earring too is a nice touch, because of course he would keep a part of the minish with him, And the charm on his hood. the one shaped like Ezlo, aka the Minish Cap himself. The fact he has that, presumably self-made, charm on his hood? The kinstones too,,,wa following up, the kinstones being in the colours' colours is awesome and such a nice detail Mashing the colours together on one tunic looks messy, but really...the colours are a messy bunch, so it works the embroidery on each quarter!! the embroidery to show which colour has what element,,,,its adorable and it's such a cute thing four has! In that one picture of the colours -5th picture- you can see how different the colours really are and it's such a nice detail that, yes, they all originated from one person, but theyre different in most ways. Vio's hair is the darkest, Green's hair is the lightest. Blue has a more agitated demeanor, while Green has a confident one the bandana too!!! The bandana being there just reminds people that this kid is a successful blacksmith ill shut up now but GOD i fucking love Four's design actually no i wont i have more to say about four listen, the fact you can tell which colour is 'in control' of four throughout the comic is amazing LIKE???? you can tell which colour is which without four even being split god i fucking love this comic and god i fucking love four still on about four's height okay here is Four with someone about the same age as him Hyrule and Four are both similar in age, and yet look at the visible difference in height Four just has the best design in the entire Linked Universe Comic I swear to god Every member of the chain is so different, but Four's is more interesting because his design didn't just go towards him it went towards the colours too this is the only thing i have with multiple pictures of four at once, but!! four just,,,look how wide his personality is??? he's simaltaniously; one of the most emotional links, one of the most logical links, one of the most aggressive links, and one of the most messy links i think im done now i apologise
