No, i absolutely agree! I read back through my post and i wasn't super clear on what i saying 😅
I was trying to say that i agree that:
1) Ianthe wants Corona immortal. This isn't really debated, but this list is partly so i remember all my thoughts
2) Conventional Lyctorhood is likely to be a nonviable route. Conventional being one person using another soul as a battery, like (most of) the og lyctors and Ianthe eating Babs. I don't think this is a route Ianthe is actually considering for Corona, but it's very fun to think about how it could be messed up in fun interesting ways when the eightfold word is performed on someone by an outsider.
3) The apple cores and theorem notebooks mentioned in the reply you highlighted are definitely related to Ianthe's plan to keep Corona with her. (Only caught that on like my 4th time through the Ht9 audiobook rip)
4) Even if Ianthe knew you could body share/after finding out about gestalt Lyctorhood (so called perfect Lyctorhood according to Palamedes/Paul), i don't think she'd want that with Corona. Sure the twins lived basically their entire lives as a single unit, but Ianthe wants recognition (and posters of her face) and she treats Corona like a doll or pet in a lot of ways. She doesn't want to merge with Corona, she wants her where she can touch her and interact with her.
5) Kiriona/Gideon's currently lease on (un/dead) life as on Nt9 has probably given Ianthe more ideas/options, is she hasn't had them already. Obviously Jod has a fuckton more power to work with, and necromantically viewing his work tends to result in a case of citrus seared sinuses, but Ianthe has been proven to be adept at understanding and interpreting necromancy even without much to go on (e.g. the trial labs in Gt9). Furthermore, she's into liminal magic, so i wouldn't be surprised if she picked up some spirit magic asking the way, which would presumably help with keeping Corona around indefinitely whether she wants to be there or not.
quick question, what the *fuck* is Ianthe planning?

I haven't said much personally about Veilguard besides sharing my Rook and a few other silly things, but I do have a couple thoughts now that I'm so very far into my playthrough (halfway at about 50 hours).
I know the music hasn't hit like some hoped it would. I agree that it is not as good as Inquisition. That's still my favorite OST of the series. I understand BioWare wanted a new composer for the next game because each game has had a different composer. But given how very connected Inquisition and Veilguard are, I disagree with that premise and thought they should have stuck with Morris, and not only for that reason. He's a fucking musical genius.
All that said, I do enjoy Zimmer's and Balfe's work on this OST. It's not bad. I was shittalking the main theme for weeks after it came out but when you mash it up with the actual opening of the game, it fits. And I like all the softer versions of it, the less complicated takes with less instrumentation. And there are other tracks that call back to Inquisition. No, I'm not referring to the cameos where Morris's actual tracks were used. I'm talking about Zimmer/Balfe's new content where they threaded callbacks to Inquisition. Once I finish the game, I'm going to do a much deeper analysis of the Veilguard OST, but for now, I'm enjoying it as I play the game (I don't want to listen to the OST before I finish the game itself).
A couple other thoughts in shorter form:
The combat is fun. Compared to previous games, it's dynamic enough that, while there are patterns, you still have to be on your toes. Yes there's the rock, paper, scissors of get rid of armor, get rid of barrier, then spam left click/spells. But you know what, compared to the previous games, I'm enjoying that. It's a nice change of pace. I'm also playing a Mourn Watch Death Mage, so there's some nice flavor there.
Skin texture sucks. It's too smooth. It gives everyone a cartoonist look. I hate it.
Hair is fucking gorgeous. I just wish there were more styles I liked.
The story and quests are fantastic.
I find the dialogue to be a fun balance between seriousness, camp, and exposition.
Now on to my biggest fucking complaint about the game so far and given what I've read (without spoiling anything), I'm ultimately going to be disappointed in the long-run by the romances. My mage committed to Emmrich and I love him. He's wonderful. Read on for some spoilery-ish facets of his romance.
SPOILERS
He's an artist. Both with his magic and his words. He's sophisticated and overly romantic in such a respectful way. Rook's interest in him takes him by surprise because I believe canonically there's an age gap (that I headcanon away), but it's adorable. Plus, graveyard dates. He's very Gomez Addams but without all the public displays of affection (which I also headcanon away because fuck that noise).
END SPOILERS
My last point in the spoilers section about Emmrich's romance is my biggest complaint of the game. There's very little actual romance! And it's because you can't roll up to your companions at any given time and open a dialogue with them. There's no open conversation option. You only get to talk to them if they have a time-sensitive marker or a quest marker on their icon on the map. No free smooches on the ramparts!
And the romance moments we do get are so few and far between in a game that is absolutely massive, not in terms of map size this time, but in terms of content. There is so much good content (as opposed to the shit side quests of collecting 10 bear asses in the Hinterlands of Inquisition). The side quests all feel directly tied to the area's story so they all feel worth doing. We're never doing dumb shit like drawing constellations in the sky or finding shards through tranquil mage skulls (don't ever forget that they used the skulls of mages forced into tranquility specifically for this purpose).
Now I'm not through the whole game yet, but I'm hearing and seeing that there's next to no nudity. Given that on top of the lack of open convos and sparse romantic content, I'm bummed. I still love Emmrich, and I know I'll enjoy the others when I do get to them (because I plan on it). But damn. I was hoping for Desk Scene (iykyk) levels of spice outta this crew.
That's it. Halfway through the game and this is how I feel so far. I'm thoroughly enjoying the game and will continue to binge it. I have Rooks planned for the rest of the companions, too. Femme elf rogue crow to romance Davrin, femme qunari warrior lords of fortune to romance Harding, femme human shadow dragon rogue to romance Neve, femme elf warrior veil jumper to romance Bellara, masc elf mage grey warden to romance Lucanis.
I'd like to see your thoughts!

Many years ago, I saw an SCTV rerun in which a character explained that if you travel through time and meet yourself, you will be annihilated. It was stated like a well-known scientific fact. I don't remember anything else about the skit, and I can't find it anywhere. (EDIT: I finally found it.) But I do know that, even then, I thought "that makes absolutely no sense."
Like, okay, I get the idea that meeting one's self would increase the risk of paradoxes. And there's the whole thing of two of the same thing occupying the same place at the same time, which sounds bad. But I'm pretty sure that concept would apply at a subatomic level, so unless I meet myself and walk through me, I think we're good. I could go on all day, but it feels unfair attacking a concept I mainly know from seeing it spoofed. So I've often wanted to know who came up with it.
Unfortunately, researching the trope is pretty frustrating. TV Tropes has a page about it, but TV Tropes is poorly organized for examining the history and development of a trope. I found a Quora thread on the subject, but it's mostly people trying to rationalize the trope, rather than researching its origin. I read James Gleick's Time Travel: A History a couple of years back, but I don't even remember this topic being addressed. Everybody loves bringing up Heinlein's "'—All You Zombies—'", but that's literally the opposite of the trope in question.
Tumblr media
Here are my key findings thus far. First, everyone seems to agree that Timecop (1994) is the best depiction of the trope. Second, a 1972 Doctor Who episode introduced a broadly similar concept called the "Blinovitch Limitation Effect," so at least we have a name (albeit a clunky one) for the general idea. Third, The Flying Saucer Gambit (1966) imposes a rule against meeting yourself. I'm reasonably certain that many Silver Age DC comics used the trope prior to that, but I suspect they would have borrowed the idea from an even earlier souce, such as a short story or a speculative essay.
I'll probably keep digging into this. Just dating the trope back to at least 1966 helps a lot. Lucky for me there's a website dedicated to identifying every time travel story ever. But there's a lot of obscure old stuff out there, so it'll take a while.

What I Thought About "Knock Knock Knockin' on Hooty's Door" from The Owl House
Wow. They are really pushing it for that secret message, huh?
Anywho--Salutations, random people on the internet who certainly won’t read this! I am an Ordinary Schmuck. I write stories and reviews and draw comics and cartoons!
I think it goes without saying at this point that Season Two of The Owl House is setting itself up as a season without filler. Now, filler episodes aren't always bad. Yes, it hurts when a series turns away from the main plot for a week. But at best, they're utilized as a chance for the writers to play around with the characters and developing said characters without it relating to the overarching story. So, some people who see that consider it a bad thing that a series doesn't have that many filler episodes.
I like to call those people: F**king morons.
Don't get me wrong, I see where some of you are coming from. And I'd be willing to agree...if The Owl House was a plot-driven series. Which it's not. It is a character-driven series. Because for every plot thread and narrative that the show presents, they always relate to the characters and develop them further each time these threads get brought up. For example, look at "Knock Knock Knockin’ on Hooty's Door" (It pains me just to write that). Several narratives move forward, and it’s all done to make the characters grow. And to explain how requires going into spoilers. So keep that in mind as you continue reading.
Now, let's review, shall we?
WHAT I LIKED
Hooty: Might as well start with the character that this episode is about.
To tell you the truth, I wasn't a huge fan when I found out we're getting a Hooty-centered episode. I've grown to love him over time, but he is a comedic character that's best used in small doses. Primarily due to how his voice is grating to me (My ears are still bleeding...). With that said, I do really love his contributions in "Knock Knock Knockin' on Hooty's Door" (Seriously, there couldn't have been a less awkward title?). Hooty's antics when trying to help everyone are as hilarious as they are heartwarming. He deeply cares for his friends but just doesn't understand how his plans could do some unintended harm, which is pretty lovable if you ask me. We also get some surprisingly great insight into his character, as he feels insecure about basically being the comic relief who doesn't really do that much other than being funny. Rarely do you get that level of dimension from a comedic character, and it's even more uncommon for that to work out as well as it does here. It once again proves just how competent the writing is in this series to the point where we get an episode about Hooty, and it's funny and heartwarming instead of being annoying. And whoever is responsible for that, you're the best.
Lilith’s Letter to Hooty: I mean it when I say that I love how Lilith kept her word about her and Hooty becoming penpals. Their friendship was something I would have never expected to love, and I'm still shocked that it works so well, so seeing it continue like this just warms me to the bone. Plus, it is pretty sweet that Lilith's kind words are what inspired Hooty to do what he's done in this episode...meaning it's Lilith we should thank here--SON OF A WITCH! Even when she's gone, she's still working her way into my heart!
King going through Puberty: What?! KING IS EVOLVING!
(There, I made a Pokemon reference. Do I get my cookie now?)
Eda Keeping Herself Awake to Train Herself: I'm willing to bet a large sum of money that this has everything to with Raine getting captured last week. If Eda was still the most powerful witch in the Isles, she might have actually saved them. But she isn't, and now the love of her life is in the clutches of a tyrant planning something that could potentially be the end of everything. So I can understand Eda pushing herself to her limit to get back on top again, as I would probably do the same. It's not healthy in any way, and Eda would be doing more harm than good. But when it comes to the people you love, logic doesn't always win out in the end.
Luz Wanting to Make her Way into Amity’s Heart by Making the Echo Mouse Happy: ...That's it. I Just...I just love everything about it, ok?
This was also when I knew that I was wrong to doubt that there would be zero Lumity in this episode. I realize my follies now, and I humbly apologize.
Hooty Teaching King About Demons: This was so funny. So, so funny. Probably doesn't come as a surprise, especially since The Owl House proves itself as a comedy before, but the jokes have never hit as frequently and as hard as they did here. From Hooty getting offended by King's dance to him and Dana's insert wanting a "DNA sample," everything managed to successfully make me lose my s**t. It does come at the expense of King suffering, but I can stomach that much more than if it were Eda or Luz. And, as a bonus, we get lore about how demons work, added with another great joke of King getting in trouble with Hooty for saying he already knows this stuff. Humor isn't always the show's strong suit, but when it works, it f**king works.
King Wanting to Know What he Is: But despite how funny King's vignette was, we still get to see more of his character grow. We learn that he's frustrated now that there's this big question mark over his life now, feeling extra angry that his father "abandoned" him to leave such a present mystery. It shows the hidden resentment he has that Lilith inadvertently brought out, made even worse when King's father hasn't responded to the video yet. King hasn't really gotten that much development until "Echoes of the Past," so it's pretty cool that the writers haven't really slowed down on it. Especially when it leads to these great moments of King venting his frustrations.
King’s Shouting Powers: KING learned FUS RO DAH!
(And now that's a Pokemon reference AND a Skyrim reference. WHERE'S MY GOSH DANG COOKIE!?)
Eda’s Nightmare: If King's vignette hits you hard with the laughs, Eda's will absolutely hit you harder with the feels (never make me say "feels" unironically again). Knowing that Eda's life got thoroughly screwed over by the curse is something we could figure out on her own. But seeing just how much the curse ruined her life and tore apart relationships that mean the world to her really does a swell job at ripping apart the soul. What's even more tragic is, technically speaking, it's all sort of Eda's fault too. She kept hiding the curse, refusing to be a burden to others who would do all they could to help. If she had only been open and honest, things probably wouldn't have changed much, but they most likely would have been better than they are now.
Eda Attacked her Father as the Owl Beast: ...I don't know what I was expecting when "Keeping Up A-Fear-Ances" hinted that there was some possible tension between Eda and her father...but it definitely wasn't this.
The fact that we see blood where his eye used to be doesn't make things any happier, either.
Raine Broke Up with Eda: Before we get into anything else, let's celebrate the fact that it's now confirmed that Eda and Raine really did use to date in the past. Because this show is just f**king phenomenal with its LGBTQA+ representation!
But, seriously, this is a fantastic reveal that goes far beyond just shipping...well, sort of. It shines a new light on Eda and Raine's interactions from last week, revealing that while they're not a couple anymore, they still very much love each other. It helps make their last interaction especially tragic, as they were both on the same page now and could very well be together again. Only for them to be forced apart for the second time in a way that's much worse than the first. And I frickin' adore that this series changes the impact of one episode one week later. Again, it shows just how competent these writers are, and kudos to them for making something so...perfect.
The Moon Person: WHO THE FU--Nope. Nope! We have more than enough mystery bulls**t to deal with through CreepyLuz and Philip Wittebane, so I am PUTTING YOU ON THE BACKBURNER FOR NOW!
(They're probably nothing more than a one-off character, anyway)
The Owl Beast and Eda are Connected: Through visuals alone, we, the audience, can clue into what the curse really means. The Owl Beast doesn't want to be a part of Eda as much as she doesn't want it to be a part of her. Whether they like it or not, and they very much don't, they're stuck together. The thing is, and this is what I love the most, they still decide to make the best of their situation rather than let it ruin their lives even more. This might be the best possible turn Eda's curse could have made. It'll still affect her, and there are probably more negatives than positives, but at least now, it's not the worst thing in the world. And I feel like that's all anyone can ask when in a position like her own.
Eda's “Pretty Dream”: I don't know what emotions are toiling inside me more with this moment. Awe and wonder over how beautiful Eda's dream is, or heartbreak over the implication that she has only had nightmares since getting cursed...I'm gonna say both. Yeah, it's definitely both.
Eda’s Harpie Form: Well, fan artists are gonna have a field day with this...especially the freaks.
(You know who you are. And you're weird!)
Luz Calling Amity a “Cotton-Candy Haired Goddess”: ...Have I ever mentioned how much I love this show?
Hooty Kidnapped Amity: ...Hooty, if your stupidity wasn't charming, I would be more than willing to call the authorities over how you kidnapped a girl in your version of a knapsack and locked her in the basement. For that is going to ring SO MANY alarm bells in people's heads.
Amity and Luz Stuck in a Tunnel of Love: *Smacks lips* Mmm. The adorable awkwardness of this moment is just *chef's kiss* magnifique!
Luz being afraid of getting made fun of:
Amity’s look of hope: I mean...just...f**king--LOOK AT HER:
Tumblr media
That is the look of a girl who, while embarrassed as hell, still is ecstatic to learn for a brief moment, everything that she is hoping for has a high chance of being real. Who, in their right mind, wouldn't go "Aw!" at something so pure and innocent?!
Luz Destroying the Tunnel of Love: This is how to effectively utilize dramatic irony. The audience can understand why Luz is tearing the place apart because she explicitly states that she's afraid of Amity rejecting her in the end. They also know that's bogus, thus making it extra painful to watch Amity's heart break more and more with each second (which is perfectly represented through Amity's expressions). You feel bad for both of them, and even worse when you know that it can easily be prevented by the simple art of communication. That's what makes it great dramatic irony. Knowing the point of view of each character results in a scene that evokes emotions in two different ways.
Hooty’s Breakdown: This was...genuinely hard to watch. Not that it was badly written, far from it. It just...hurt seeing how destroyed Hooty was when he realized he failed the people he has such an admiration for. On the upside, a wholesome moment follows soon after as the Owl House gang tries to reassure Hooty that he's done a lot of good that night. It's a pure action that shows even though Hooty gets on their nerves all the time, they still care about him...damn it. I think I'm gonna cry.
Eda’s Advice for Luz: ...Eda...You're the best.
You found out that your surrogate daughter wants to ask a girl out, and not only were you quick to deliver the best possible advice ("Just go for it!"), but you also quickly reassure her that it doesn't need to be perfect.
And you know what? That's it. Eda is the best cartoon mom! She might not technically be Luz's mom, but I don't give a s**t because she is the best!
Luz and Amity Ask Each Other Out: Shh-sh-sh-sh...
Do you hear that?
...
...
...It's the sound of dozens of Lumity fans collectively losing their s**t...and I'm one of them.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
HOO-HOO-HOO-HOO!
IT!
IS!
CANON!
AH-HAHAHAHAHA!
HOLY S**T! Holy s**t! Holy s**t...might just be the best way I could possibly describe this! Finally, after all the waiting, speculating, and praying, THESE TWO IDIOTS FINALLY GOT TOGETHER! AND IT WAS PERFECT! I mean, it was awkward as s**t, but that's what makes it perfect! You know why? You wanna--Hey! *snaps fingers*. You want to know why? It's because they're teenagers. Of f**king course, it's going to be awkward! This is their first relationship, so there will be a lot of missteps along the way. And that, in itself, brings me to the best (second best part?) thing about it happening in episode eight of the new seasons. Most endgame couples get together in the climax or even at the end of the series. But to have them get together this early on, means there will be quite a few episodes dedicated to showing them grow as a couple.
And better than that--EVEN F**KING BETTER THAN THAT--dozens of kids are going to see these two, a realistic depiction of young love that just so happens to involve two girls, and are going to learn once and for all that there is nothing wrong with being who they are. That fact alone is f**king incredible. Yes, it sucks that season three got cut short, and we'll have even less time with Luz and Amity, but knowing how many kids have felt seen today almost makes it worth it in the end.
And if I see one mother f**ker saying this was poorly paced, I might just hunt them down for SPORT...Sorry if that was an overreaction. I'M JUST SO HAPPY! Because they're happy! Look at them. Listen to them! It's so...GAH-HAHAHA!
“They’re adorable! And deserve all the happiness!”: You're darn right, Hooty! You're darn right.
King’s Father(?) Shows Up: What the--WHAT?! They're doing this now?! Here?! After everything else?
Oh, man. What could this mean? What dynamic changes will this cause in the main cast? How could the writers fit this in during the next two episodes? And what--
Hooty Eats the Letter: ...Pfffft--HAHAHAHA!
Oh, man...I should be mad, and I wouldn't blame others if they are...but that is too much of a brilliant f**k you that I can't help but appreciate it. Bravo writers. Bravo.
WHAT I DISLIKED
...Dislikes? Dislikes? You would honestly believe that after everything I witnessed in this episode, that I would have the gull to list anything wrong with it?!
HOW DARE YOU ASSUME THAT I WOULD BE SO CALLUS TO--Actually, I do kind of have an issue with the episode's title. It's just too much of an awkward mouthful for me to get behind. I understand that the writers wanted to sneak the K into the secret message, but were there really no other titles starting with K that they couldn't come up with?
But that's just a personal issue, and in no way do I think anybody else would feel the same way. Especially with how well-written everything else is anyway.
IN CONCLUSION
"Knock Knock Knockin' on Hooty's Door" (title aside) is another A+ episode. It was hilarious, heart-wrenching, and downright adorable while keeping me entertained with every minute. I'm sure there are some issues I was willing to ignore due to how expertly written everything else was, but why bother looking for the chinks in the armor when I could just enjoy a perfect episode for being so...perfect! Some of you might be willing to disagree with me, but to that, I say: Don't knock it till you've tried it.
(Now, if you don't excuse me, I'm going to go lie down. It's...It's been a day.)

hi it's me again. I read traitor's blade once a couple years ago and it slapped! And now that I'm mourning riyira revelations being done so I read it again and now I'm halfway through Knight's shadow. and. AAAAHDHDHDHEJDJJDKDJKDSKKSKDJDJA this book is so fucking good, absolutely obsessed with it. the theme and character work is so good in this book. I'm crying about Brasti and Valiana literally all the time. So I have to ask you. Do you have headcanons or Thoughts about the main squad? Specifically brasti kest falcio valiana and dariana bc I would die for all of them
Hi! I've finally gotten around to this, sorry it took a while...
Honestly, I love the Greatcoats. It's the perfect mix of magic and the Musketeers. The second and third books are my favourites, mostly for ansty Kest but also just because they're great, so enjoy the rest of the series.
I haven't read them in a few years, so I'll try my best not to spoil anything for you:
Brasti is so pure, I love him. In some ways he's more idealistic than Falcio but he's also much more down to earth in the sense that he understands people and and he's trying to save people, anyone and everyone, whereas Falcio is trying to save the whole world
I feel like I would have liked Ethalia more if it wasn't all from Falcio's POV, which may sound odd when he's obviously so in love with her, but if I had to read one more mention of Ethalia's eyes...
Kest is my absolute favourite character. I'm so glad SdC didn't force him into any romantic subplot, I was worried when there was so much between Falcio and Ethalia and I was scared he was going to try and pair everyone off. I know why some people see Kest as in love with Falcio, and Falcio is absolutely the most important person in the world to Kest, but Kest is so goddamn aroace, no I won't take critisism
Darriana and Valiana are my OTP
Kest is mentioned as being middling height but I picture him as tall. Brasti is average height, Falcio is short, not really short but a couple inches shorter than Brasti, which Brasti likes to point out at least once a day. Valiana is also slightly taller than Falcio, but Darri is a tiny ball of fury
Modern AU, Brasti and Kest have so many arguments about Brasti using the wrong words over text - Kest: The word is inconsistent, not incontinence. Brasti: I knew that, it was autocorrect!
Falcio and Darriana are cat people, Brasti and Valiana are dog people. Kest doesn't mind either but has full, serious conversations with pets like they can understand
"Yes, hello, Mittens. I agree, that is a very interesting bobbin of thread but I don't think the Tailor would appreciate you unravelling it across the floor. Oh, you're going to carry on? Well, at your own peril then."
He does this with horses too, though Falcio is also guilty of this
Brasti has the best hearing so he's a really light sleeper. The one thing he does sleep through is his own snoring. Falcio hates him for this because he cannot sleep through Brasti's snoring. Kest can wake at the first hint of danger but he also can and will sleep through anything if he wants to
Brasti is obviously the best archer. Kest is above average because he works out all the science and maths in his head but he's not a natural. Valiana is very good, but never really needs to use the skill, except to challenge Brasti when he's being irritating. Darriana refuses to try because she will not give Brasti the satisfaction of confirming he is better than her
Darriana has a good singing voice but will not let anyone hear her sing for love nor money
Brasti and Valiana have totally theoretical discussions about how they would commit various heists. Darriana often pipes in though her plans usually involve far more killing, but none of them let Falcio over hear them for risk of being scolded like misbehaving school kids
Bonus (from the short stories):
Estevar Valejan Duerisi Borros is wonderful and should have been in the full series because he's basically a sassy swordfighting Poirot and I love him and if he had been there, all the Greatcoats' problems would have been solved half way through book 2
Ok this was a lot more than I meant to write but hey. Thanks again for the ask :)

Note
this is like, a super weird idea i've have had in my head for a long time: So, trans Sirius and James are both famous singers (they are together) and Sirius is outed as trans, maybe someone posts and old picture or his dead name, and James is the best boyfriend ever comforting him:) (sorry if i had mistakes, English it's my second lenguage)
((A/N: Warning for forced outing and some mild transphobia- aka people see old pictures of Sirius and assume he’s a woman))
Sirius had made a career out of being a bloke that dressed feminine at times. Technically, he'd made a career out of singing, but more people talked about his outfits, his makeup, and his hair, than his songs. Which was fine by him. He wrote all of his own lyrics, but it's not like he thought they were anything groundbreaking. He'd done three albums so far, and each of them had a single, poetic song that was basically a love letter to James. The rest of the songs on the albums were pop. Maybe pop rock, if the reviewer wanted to be generous. Incidentally, his poetic songs were always the least popular ones, but again, it didn't really bother him. He was a pop artist. He was successful at it in large part because people thought he was gorgeous. It was a nice stroke to his ego, which he always appreciated.
James had made a career out of actually being a good singer and songwriter, which Sirius thought was hilarious. They were quite a pair. Every time a fan discovered that they were married, they expressed shock at how different their styles were-- usually followed by wondering how the hell they were together; Sirius didn't understand how different musical styles were supposed to make them incompatible life partners, but he thought that was pretty funny too.
"I don't want to go on tour again," Sirius said with a frown-- not that Benjy could see it. The beauty of phone calls was also the biggest drawback: Benjy couldn't see what Sirius looked like. It meant that he could stay in his pants while talking, but it also meant that Benjy couldn't see his expression and react accordingly.
"I know you said that, but-"
"But nothing, Benjy. I've got a husband that I do like seeing every once in a while, and I can start on the next album like you wanted."
"It's an over exaggeration to say that you starting on the next album is what I want," Benjy, Sirius's manager said. "I offered it as an alternative to going on tour."
"And I've accepted, so what's the problem?"
Benjy sighed. "Nothing, I guess. Tell James hullo for me."
"Will do. And thanks." Sirius knew that he was a pain sometimes, but whenever he was too nice to Benjy, he never ended up getting what he wanted. He once hadn't seen James in person for three consecutive days for a year and a half because he had kept telling Benjy that it wasn't the end of the world if he stayed on the road.
"Uh-huh. I know it's your time off, but keep in touch, yeah?"
"Yep. Bye."
Benjy echoed, "Bye," and they both hung up.
"Hey sweetheart," James said, putting an arm around Sirius's waist and pressing a lingering kiss to his cheek.
"You're cuddly," Sirius noted.
He hummed, not denying it. "Just love you is all."
"Aw, you love me? How embarrassing."
"I've always been in love with you, and not once in my life has it embarrassed me."
Sirius flushed a light pink but pretended like he hadn't. James saw it anyways but kept his mouth shut. There had been times where Sirius didn't like himself in the slightest, but James had always liked him. Every inch. When he had his dysphoric days, James loved him just the same; it helped.
*
James was plucking tunelessly at his guitar as he frowned at his music notebook, and Sirius was laying on the ground with his feet propped up on the armchair in front of him. Ah yes, the glamorous lifestyle of popular musicians.
Sirius was having a pretty good time of it. Doing nothing was quite a bit of fun. It was one of the only things he really missed from their school days. Even on his days off, where he purposefully sat around doing nothing, it felt like he had been run ragged. Sirius loved his life, and he liked performing, but a part of him couldn't wait for the day when he got to retire. They'd be able to sit around like this all day, every day.
It was as he was having that thought that his life decided to take a dip. His phone was sitting on the coffee table, and it buzzed several times in quick succession from new messages. "Can you kick me my phone?" Sirius asked, not wanting to get up to see if it was important.
James paused playing, then did as Sirius asked and kicked it off the end where it landed near Sirius.
He picked it up and unlocked it, then frowned. "What's Benjy texting me for?"
"Well, he's your manager. I'm sure he has lots of reasons."
Don't panic.
Well that was comforting.
I'll take care of it.
People might say some shite, but your #1 defence is to just not look at it.
Sirius itched to get on twitter and see what he was talking about, but to date, Benjy hadn't given him bad advice. If he said that Sirius didn't want to see it, then it was probably true. Still, he needed to know what the hell he was talking about.
What's going on?, he texted back.
Someone found an old photo of you and James at school.
Oh. Sirius swallowed. If it was from Hogwarts, then Sirius hadn't come out, and he sure as hell hadn't transitioned yet. James was back to plucking at the guitar strings, evidently coming to the conclusion that if Sirius hadn't told him what it was about, then it wasn't important. It's not like Sirius was going to keep it from him, but he wanted to know what was going on, and James would tell him not to bother with it. He'd tell James what was going on-- as soon as he figured it out himself.
You're gonna get pissed at me for looking, aren't you?
DON'T. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SIRIUS DO NOOOOOT.
Sirius read the text and didn't reply. He wasn't going to look at all the comments-- really, he wasn't. He just wanted to know how this had started.
It wasn't hard to find.
Some fan of James's was attending Hogwarts and had recognised him in an old photograph. They'd snapped a picture on their phone and uploaded it. Guys, teenaged James Potter!!! I guess that's his girlfriend before he got married :P Sirius had hair down to his shoulders now, but back then, he hadn't cut it once and in the picture, it was in two low pigtails. He'd had to wear the girl's uniform back then, which meant a pleated skirt and a blazer in red instead of trousers and a yellow blazer like the boys had gotten. He'd hated that uniform. He'd gotten more detentions for wearing the wrong uniform than he had anything else, which was sort of amazing considering how often he'd acted out in other ways.
Someone else had said that the girl in the picture looked an awful lot like James's husband.
Someone new put that picture side by side with one of Sirius's current ones. Dude, does @siriusblackpotter have a twin sister or smthn?? He has mentioned "family issues" before...
It went from there to someone unearthing the names listed for the original picture, to someone pointing out that he never took his shirt off for photoshoots, to someone finding both records of him changing his name. That shite was on public record. The only reason he'd gotten away with it up until now was that no one had thought to look for the first one.
Sirius exited out of twitter and crawled over to James's chair, leaving his phone where he'd been sat before.
James stopped playing, peering at him curiously. "You alright, love?"
"Mph."
"Benjy trying to get you on tour again?"
"Nah."
James threaded his fingers through Sirius's hair, scratching lightly at his scalp. "Then what's up?"
"Someone found an old picture of us in Hogwarts."
There was the briefest pause in James's hand before he resumed. "All over social media?"
"Yeah."
"What did Benjy say? That was Benjy texting you, right?"
"Yeah. He said he'd come up with a statement or summat, and I should just wait it out."
"Good advice," James said mildly.
"You disagree?" Sirius asked, tilting his head back to look at him.
James gave a small shrug. "I dunno. I'm sure from a PR point of view, that's the smart thing to do."
"But?"
"But all I want to do is... I dunno. Something mushy. Let everyone know I love you."
"Pretty sure they already know that. I think the marriage might've tipped them off."
"Might've," James agreed with a small smile. With the hand still holding the guitar, he held it off to the side and leaned forward to kiss him. They kept it short since it was an awkward angle, and if James tried to stay that way for very long, he'd probably fall off the chair entirely. It did Sirius a world of good to feel it, brief as it was. Feel him. He leaned back in the chair again, but he kept the guitar away. Evidently, the time for figuring out a new chorus line was done for the moment.
"I love you," Sirius said. He knew that James knew that. But he liked saying it, and he knew for a fact that James liked hearing it.
James's eyes lit up like Sirius had given him the world-- just like he did every time Sirius said it. "I love you too. You want to do something fun?"
"Fun how?"
"Eh, dealer's choice. We could watch a horror movie and eat ice cream."
"I hope you realise the only part of horror movies I like is the part where I cuddle up to you."
"Liar," James said with a grin. "You also like the blood sprays."
"I just think they're funny is all," Sirius said.
"Thinking it's funny counts as liking it."
"Hm, disagree."
James rolled his eyes. "Does that mean we're on for a horror movie?"
"Absolutely."

☕️+Genshin Impact :)
Bro where do I begin?
First off, this game is F R E E. Like how is a game with amazing yet loveable character designs and STUNNING graphics free!?
The world building, lore and story is so good. Each little bit tells a story from the novels you collect to the artifacts you farm. Its so well developed and references other aspects of lore around Teyvat unlike other games (that being our good old brave frontier where they just don't know how to connect their fucking lore or cross reference it Jesus christ). The characters are so lovable and endearing. I really like that some dialogues and story are restricted until you level up their friendship so you gradually get to know them the more you play them.
Soundtrack is a fucking 11/10. Bless Yu Peng Chen for creating such good osts for Genshin. Highly recommend people listen to the soundtrack. I cannot praise the music enough as a music student!
Also major bonus points that some of the Haikyuu!! JP VAs voice some of the characters in Genshin. Man I miss Haikyuu!! so much-
You've mentioned a lot of the pros to Genshin and I absolutely agree with a lot you said about it. Though with pros, there are cons to Genshin.
As you mentioned Genshin being unsuited for mobile gaming, while i don't 100% agree to the statement, Genshin is admittedly really awkward to play on mobile. I play Genshin on mobile and yes it is playable, it's just sometimes verycumbersome. Especially when you play bow characters (says the person here that has both Ganyu and Venti in one team). Trying to collect crystalflies and butterflies is a nightmare. The only time mobile players had the high ground was the rhythm minigame during the windblume festival lmao. The lag is pretty bad too and my phone does heat up quite a bit when I play-
Another con isn't with the game but more with the growing fandom. Things like people who already had Venti upon Genshin's release sending death threats towards those who got Venti on the rerun banner because it didn't make them "special enough". The fetishisation of characters who are canonically minors. Not to mention people in co op trashing on other people's mains (esp if you main the starter 3) and stats.
The micragression (though idk if it does count as micragression but imma count it anyways) towards what honorific Childe should use to address Zhongli and claiming that just because they play the game with the JP dub, that sensei is the correct term. As well as the fact that people who say that JP is the sub and CN is the dub. Some going as far as to make some racist remarks towards Chinese as a culture, and language which I've seen on Instagram. Trust me, I've seen 2 comment threads and as someone who is ethnically Chinese, it was really upsetting and uncomfortable to read.
Of course, I'm not calling out everyone who wasn't entirely aware. If they didn't know, that's okay. As long as they've learned their mistake. I'm just calling out the minor few who for one, ain't Mihoyo and two, clearly didn't do their research.
To clear things up. Mihoyo is a game company based in Shanghai, China. Genshin Impact is a Chinese game, making the Chinese voices the sub and Japanese voices the dub alongside the Korean and English voices. It's fine if you have a preference to which voices you prefer but just because JP is the preferred version, it doesn't make it the sub.
As for what honorific to use when people want Childe to address Zhongli in fanart or fanfic, I wrote an explanation here which explains which honorific to use for who and what situation.
I honestly hope that Genshin doesn't become a suffocating and toxic fandom. The game is so fun and I've had so much fun playing Genshin and Co oping with people over the past maybe half a year and it's given me joy (after haikyuu!!) People really need to do better and not be pricks or racist. Full stop.
