summary: michael makes it his mission to snatch a piece from your closet that he has his eyes on without you noticing (gn! reader x michael monroe)

“hey, have you seen my hat? the one with, like, the leap pads print thingy on it?” you heard michael call through your apartment. you stood at the mirror fixing your earrings.

“gee michael, that’s real specific. have you seen our bedroom? how the hell are we supposed to know where anything is?” you turned to him, standing in the doorway as you gestured at the disastrous floor. there were random articles of sparkly, bright colored clothes. most of them were michaels. he rolled his eyes and walked over to you, kissing your forehead before glancing at himself in the mirror.

“i think i need a new look.” he stated, squinting his blue eyes at the reflection. you looked at him confusedly.

“what do you mean, are you gonna dye your hair or something?” you chuckled, partially joking. he shook his head softly, still concentrated on his reflection.

“im not sure… i think i just gotta try something new. y’know, every now and then.” you just nodded and patted him softly on his head.

“i think i know whatchya mean.” you started to walk out of the bedroom, leaving michael alone in the messy room in front of the vanity. he looked around the floor and contents of the room in hopes of finding some inspiration, some random item that could make a new addition to his closet one way or another. his eyes scanned the bedroom, eyeing the closet where he noticed a shoebox that was unopened and tucked away on the floor. it intrigued him, so he sat down on the ground to open the box, finding multiple scarves he’d never seen before. he examined them, and as he’d wished for, got an idea. he stood up, walking around the bedroom, picking up clothes and throwing them somewhere else or trying them on, then returning to the mirror to check himself out numerous times. he pulled his hair back and straightened the collar of his jacket before wrapping his neck in one of the scarves. he smiled wide, posing in the mirror. you re entered the room, and immediately saw him with the scarf.

“mike! give me that!” you groaned, walking towards him to swipe the scarf from him. his head snapped around to face you, confused.

“so it is yours?”

“yes!” you emphasized, wrapping the fabric around your hands delicately.

“so i can’t have it?” he pouted. he was used to you sharing your belongings, as the both of you did mutually.

“nooo, not this one michael.” you sighed, sitting down on the bed. he shrugged and smiled at himself in the mirror. you were slightly suspicious as to why he hadn’t put up a fight for it, because he seemed to like the scarf a lot.

“okay…” you walked over to the closet to put the scarf away. “we’ve got to go in a few minutes, you about ready to leave?” you asked, leaning on the doorframe.

“yep! just gimme a second.” he assured you, pretending to be focused on the mirror, when really he was waiting for you to leave so he could snatch the scarf from the closet again. “why don’t you head on down there and i’ll catch up in a minute? i wanna figure out my outfit.” you shrugged, and grabbed your purse, walking out of your shared apartment.

you and michael were supposed to be meeting the rest of the guys at some breakfast place that was walking distance from your building. since you’d left without mike, you got there early, sitting down at a little table with sami, razzle, andy and nasse. they were all confused as to where michael was, until he made the most dramatic entrance to the restaurant. and he wasn’t even trying. but by wearing any of his trademark funky outfits, he attracted attention wherever he went. he also yelled your name as soon as he walked in the door.

“y/n!” he repeated, called once he found you and the guys sitting down. everyone greeted him as he sat down next to you, ruffling your hair. you noticed his new outfit, his silver leather jacket that you hadn’t seen in months all zipped up, the black heeled boots with little decorative spikes stood out just as much. and one other little detail you noticed. the same scarf you’d scolded him about earlier.

“MICHAEL!” you gasped. he was giggling, before you shoved him and knocked him into andy.

“holy shit, chill out!” andy’s eyes widened, michael was still laughing when you carefully but quickly pulled the scarf away from michael once again, eyes narrowed and eyebrows furrowed at him. you tucked the scarf in your purse.

“you’re not slick, michael.” you insisted, trying to maintain a serious expression while staring at his red face, on it was an extra bright, goofy smile. you shook your head and laughed, pulling him into a hug.
